- 0:32Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to the Business Roundtable podcast. I
- 0:35Speaker 1: am your host, David carr If Steward your business, and
- 0:38Speaker 1: I've got a brand new guest with me this week,
- 0:40Speaker 1: Lindsay Anderson.
- 0:41Speaker 2: We're so glad to have you. Lindsay.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Lindsay is a social media expert. She's been on Netflix,
- 0:49Speaker 1: wrote some amazing bestselling books. She is very passionate about
- 0:53Speaker 1: all things social media, having done it for twenty years.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And so she and I were talking and I thought, me,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and this is something that a lot of business owners
- 1:02Speaker 1: need to learn understand how to navigate this in today's world, Lindsay. So,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm super excited to have you on the podcast.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Welcome David, what a pleasure to be here. Thank you
- 1:11Speaker 3: so much for inviting me. You're right, so much is
- 1:13Speaker 3: changing in today's world or social media. Couldn't have said
- 1:16Speaker 3: that better?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean when you and I were talking
- 1:21Speaker 1: and I love your post. By the way, go follow
- 1:23Speaker 1: Lindsay on LinkedIn by the way, if you if you
- 1:25Speaker 1: haven't connected with she's amazing.
- 1:27Speaker 2: You've got some amazing contact there.
- 1:28Speaker 1: But I was watching one of the posts Lindsay that
- 1:30Speaker 1: you you made on LinkedIn. Was that just grabbed me
- 1:33Speaker 1: was like, are you you know posting you know the
- 1:37Speaker 1: what are you posting? The right thing, the wrong, wrong thing?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Where are you posting? And one of the things that
- 1:43Speaker 1: I learned about you is you've got this whole four
- 1:45Speaker 1: step system for social media sales, and like, let's think
- 1:51Speaker 1: about how to do things the right way, the most
- 1:52Speaker 1: effective way. So, like, can you give me a little
- 1:55Speaker 1: background about your history? What got you into this?
- 1:57Speaker 2: What? Why why do you like social media so much?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Lindsey Yeah, yeah, so you know, as you mentioned, like,
- 2:03Speaker 3: I've been business for twenty years and the thing that
- 2:06Speaker 3: is the thorn in the side of most small business
- 2:09Speaker 3: owners is how do I get more high quality clients?
- 2:11Speaker 3: It is the gas that runs the business. If that
- 2:14Speaker 3: drives up, things start getting real sticky. And so it's
- 2:18Speaker 3: been my lifelong passion about how to help people find
- 2:22Speaker 3: a steady stream of high quality clients. So I'm a
- 2:26Speaker 3: digital marketer at heart. And you don't have a lot
- 2:28Speaker 3: of options, David. You got search engine optimization, which is
- 2:32Speaker 3: totally changed now, and you need a team and it
- 2:34Speaker 3: costs a lot of money. You have ads, which can
- 2:39Speaker 3: be a real dumpster fire if you don't know what
- 2:41Speaker 3: you're doing okay. You have referrals, which can be like
- 2:44Speaker 3: paint dry if you don't have a plan for those,
- 2:47Speaker 3: and you just kind of sit around and hope and
- 2:49Speaker 3: pray that those come in. And you have relationships which
- 2:54Speaker 3: social media and the way I teach social media, and
- 2:56Speaker 3: what I like to say is the new way of
- 2:59Speaker 3: social media is you go in with relationships in mind,
- 3:03Speaker 3: and you can create relationships in mass You can find
- 3:06Speaker 3: high quality clients on social media. To your original point,
- 3:11Speaker 3: my four step system, most people, David think social media
- 3:15Speaker 3: is a content game, which maybe for a creator it
- 3:19Speaker 3: is if the apps are paying you for eyeballs, but
- 3:23Speaker 3: for most owners like content certainly a piece, but it
- 3:27Speaker 3: is not what's going to make or break your success
- 3:30Speaker 3: on social media.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I mean I know people when I fall into this
- 3:35Speaker 1: trap too, or I was creating a lot of content,
- 3:38Speaker 1: but it wasn't really reaching the audience, it wasn't getting conversion,
- 3:42Speaker 1: it wasn't people taking action, that's right. So it was
- 3:45Speaker 1: kind of more like, okay, am I just you know,
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'm not reaching my clients.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I'm not reaching my.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Ideal people even though I'm trying to create this content.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And like, like I was talking to joking earlier with
- 3:55Speaker 1: you as like, oh do I post on?
- 3:57Speaker 2: What platform? Do I post on?
- 3:59Speaker 1: Like you know, TikTok was a big thing, right because
- 4:01Speaker 1: then it was going to go away, it's back. I mean,
- 4:03Speaker 1: there's just different forms now there's Blue Sky. People are
- 4:05Speaker 1: leaving Facebook. There's just different things like where do I go?
- 4:08Speaker 1: How do I you know, because you have the best
- 4:10Speaker 1: maybe best piece of content, but if you don't know
- 4:13Speaker 1: how to reach the person effectively, you know.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, And you're speaking to and I think this is changing, okay,
- 4:20Speaker 3: because you're speaking to this overwhelming pressure that most small
- 4:25Speaker 3: business owners have when it's if I'm on social media,
- 4:29Speaker 3: I must be on all of the platforms like you
- 4:31Speaker 3: feel like you have to be. But in today's day
- 4:34Speaker 3: and age, it's changing. As you just mentioned, like people
- 4:37Speaker 3: are leaving Meta in droves and they're going to you know,
- 4:40Speaker 3: maybe some of them are going to school, some of
- 4:42Speaker 3: them are going to Blue Sky. People are leaving and
- 4:45Speaker 3: you're coming up with other social media channels. And the
- 4:49Speaker 3: fact is you just need to find one or two.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I'm going to even add the word too in there,
- 4:54Speaker 3: but barely okay, only one or two that you're focused
- 4:58Speaker 3: on but the key is not which one is the
- 5:00Speaker 3: most popular right now, it's where are my customers hanging out? Yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 3: and then you pick that because it's more about community,
- 5:10Speaker 3: and it's more about engagement and being where your customers
- 5:13Speaker 3: are than it is about anything else, some winning viral
- 5:15Speaker 3: piece of content that finally puts you on the map.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Spoiler alert that will not happen.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Mmmmmm yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Well, I remember we were talking about this before the podcast,
- 5:28Speaker 1: and I was talking about a colleague of mine who
- 5:32Speaker 1: he tried to get all these followers, paid somebody to
- 5:34Speaker 1: get him on his Instagram, grow his Instagram account. I've
- 5:37Speaker 1: had many people actually on Instagram, particularly I don't know
- 5:39Speaker 1: if it's the only platform, but where they've got ten thousand,
- 5:42Speaker 1: twenty thousand followers whatever, but they're not getting no, hardly
- 5:47Speaker 1: any interaction with the posts. For example, like you said
- 5:50Speaker 1: that community, they're just kind of I don't know, they're
- 5:52Speaker 1: just bots or whatever it is, but they're not people
- 5:54Speaker 1: are definitely not common and they're not engaging. There's no community,
- 5:57Speaker 1: there's no relationship there.
- 5:59Speaker 3: That's right, and that's pretty popular there on Instagram with
- 6:02Speaker 3: the old vanity metric situation going on over there and
- 6:06Speaker 3: that's really you know, it's real important to Instagram, but
- 6:09Speaker 3: it's not going to bring you clients. I've had a client.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I had a client who came to me. He had
- 6:13Speaker 3: fifty thousand followers on Instagram and every day. He's a
- 6:18Speaker 3: health and wellness coach for high achieving executives, but his
- 6:23Speaker 3: Instagram posts were the daily workout of the day where
- 6:26Speaker 3: he'd work at He'd show you a move for thirty
- 6:28Speaker 3: seconds a day. Now, even though he had fifty thousand
- 6:32Speaker 3: followers and he would get a lot of likes, no
- 6:35Speaker 3: one's buying from him because he doesn't have he's not
- 6:39Speaker 3: following the four step social media sales machine system. And
- 6:42Speaker 3: so when we implemented that, then he was able to
- 6:45Speaker 3: secure fifty thousand or more dollars worth of contracts in
- 6:50Speaker 3: a month from his social media.
- 6:52Speaker 2: So here's here.
- 6:55Speaker 1: So we've set out there's definitely a problem. There's a
- 6:57Speaker 1: disconnect here, and there's people that are overwhelmed, lindsay and
- 7:00Speaker 1: like where to start?
- 7:01Speaker 2: What's the platform? What do I post?
- 7:04Speaker 1: So break it down for us then like, okay, you
- 7:06Speaker 1: know four steps, that sounds pretty easy, Like you know, hey,
- 7:10Speaker 1: there's these steps that are walking through Lindsay's navigated these
- 7:12Speaker 1: all these pitfalls, you.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Know, but what what is that?
- 7:16Speaker 1: So how do you use the business owner the leader
- 7:18Speaker 1: kind of step out of minutia or like, I don't
- 7:21Speaker 1: you know know where to go here?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Where what do we start?
- 7:23Speaker 3: Okay? So you do start with where you think I'm
- 7:26Speaker 3: going to start, which is content. So you're on social media, Yes,
- 7:30Speaker 3: you need content. It is not what you think it is. Okay.
- 7:33Speaker 3: If you have consistent professional content talking to your one
- 7:38Speaker 3: true client and their problems and you're very just focused
- 7:42Speaker 3: on this one person and you're doing that consistently, that's
- 7:45Speaker 3: what you need for content. And so the biggest problems
- 7:49Speaker 3: small business owners face when they're doing this is a
- 7:52Speaker 3: post in fits and spurts, like they start and stop.
- 7:55Speaker 3: That's just hurting you. With the algorithms. Okay, you try
- 7:58Speaker 3: to post every day, you're wasting time. Okay. You have
- 8:01Speaker 3: to batch create this content, put it out on a
- 8:04Speaker 3: scheduler so that it's there and it's being delivered. And
- 8:08Speaker 3: then third, make sure and this is just a little
- 8:11Speaker 3: hack for you guys, envision a one true client. This
- 8:14Speaker 3: has to be a real person in your experience. That
- 8:17Speaker 3: isn't you that if you could make cutter versions of
- 8:21Speaker 3: this person, you'd be real happy and just talk to
- 8:24Speaker 3: them and only them, and that's what you need for
- 8:27Speaker 3: the content step of the social media sales machine. Does
- 8:30Speaker 3: that make sense, David, No, that makes sense.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I mean here clarifying question, Lindsay, because I agree.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I mean, that's very powerful.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I know that as business owner, even myself, sometimes I
- 8:40Speaker 1: get you get like, well, I want to I want
- 8:42Speaker 1: to sell to this person.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I want to sell this person. They dilute their message, right, they.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Dilute and then then the second that that person sees
- 8:50Speaker 3: you know what you're saying to this guy, it's like,
- 8:53Speaker 3: this is a great example. I had a divorce coach
- 8:55Speaker 3: and she was dealing with people who were far past
- 8:58Speaker 3: the divorce stage, like they're looking for their second life,
- 9:01Speaker 3: like everything is taken care of legally. Then all of
- 9:04Speaker 3: a sudden, she starts posting about its divorce month. Are
- 9:07Speaker 3: you thinking about getting divorced? The guy so far down
- 9:10Speaker 3: that line with like the legal document signed, do not
- 9:14Speaker 3: want to hear that Even though the topic is divorced,
- 9:18Speaker 3: it is to totally different people, to totally different topics,
- 9:22Speaker 3: and it has to be applicable to that one true client.
- 9:26Speaker 3: So that's why I say, envision one person in your head,
- 9:29Speaker 3: somebody who's a real person. A lot of people try
- 9:31Speaker 3: to make this up, you know, but like you can't
- 9:34Speaker 3: put yourselves in the shoes of a prospect unless like
- 9:38Speaker 3: you know them, you've interacted with them. You can't. Yes,
- 9:41Speaker 3: and it can't be you because you think you're smarter
- 9:43Speaker 3: than you are. I'm sorry. We all do we all do?
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yes? Yeah?
- 9:48Speaker 1: No, that's so powerful And I've gone down that road
- 9:53Speaker 1: and I know it's it's like it's sometimes it's like
- 9:56Speaker 1: I don't know to say it. You just spending that
- 9:58Speaker 1: time and the energy to get clear on that person,
- 10:01Speaker 1: Like you said, who really is that person?
- 10:02Speaker 2: Knowing them inside and out.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Pick one for six months and just be focused on that.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Do not skip around it will It will hurt you
- 10:10Speaker 3: in the long run. I know, if you're missing out,
- 10:12Speaker 3: what about all the other people? You'll have other people
- 10:15Speaker 3: coming in, But like, focus on one person.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, that's that's I mean, hopefully as everybody's
- 10:22Speaker 1: hearing this, that's super powerful concerted information that you need
- 10:27Speaker 1: to apply.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And I know I'm hearing it. I'm applying to myself
- 10:30Speaker 2: to Lindsay, it's scary.
- 10:32Speaker 3: You're missing out as scary, but it's the best thing
- 10:34Speaker 3: you can do. And like if it makes you feel better,
- 10:36Speaker 3: do it for like six months and you'll see I'm right.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Mm hmmm mm hmmm.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, yeah, I mean that focusing and on that,
- 10:46Speaker 1: getting clear on that more and more with your messaging,
- 10:50Speaker 1: because it takes a while. I mean, it's just I mean,
- 10:52Speaker 1: at least from my experience, lindsay, of like getting it
- 10:54Speaker 1: more refined, more refined, getting it more concerted, more focused,
- 10:58Speaker 1: kind of getting the fluff out of the way. Like
- 11:00Speaker 1: you said, do it for six months. It's not going
- 11:02Speaker 1: to get right the first time. Second time.
- 11:04Speaker 3: It is a deep It is a very deep hole
- 11:07Speaker 3: that you're digging here, Like I haven't even I do
- 11:09Speaker 3: this for a living and haven't reached the bottom of mine,
- 11:13Speaker 3: like Niching and Niching and more and more, And who
- 11:15Speaker 3: is this person exactly?
- 11:17Speaker 2: M mm hmmm mm hmmm.
- 11:19Speaker 3: And there's so many people, especially on social you can
- 11:21Speaker 3: reach all these people, so you just got to figure
- 11:24Speaker 3: out one. Okay, that's step one, David.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So step one is just getting really really clear on
- 11:31Speaker 1: who is this person that you you want to serve.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Here's the other thing I guess i'd add simply, sometimes
- 11:35Speaker 1: we be I can serve a lot of different people.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But I asked them, but who do you really Who's like,
- 11:39Speaker 1: who are you passionate about? Who do you really want
- 11:41Speaker 1: to serve? Because if you just pick anybody, it's like, eh,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, you want to track those people that you
- 11:46Speaker 1: really are, who are your ideal client? Who do you
- 11:49Speaker 1: like get excited about every day? How you can serve them?
- 11:52Speaker 2: Right right?
- 11:54Speaker 3: I mean just like yeah, yeah, and then people who
- 11:58Speaker 3: have a track record with yeah that like you up.
- 12:00Speaker 3: That's just gonna help everything that you're doing. Do not
- 12:03Speaker 3: just pick because doctors make money, So I'm picking the
- 12:06Speaker 3: doctor niche that will not work.
- 12:07Speaker 2: That will not work, yeah right, because it won't. It
- 12:10Speaker 2: won't last over time.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So yeah, So if the first start is content, what's
- 12:16Speaker 1: our next step?
- 12:16Speaker 3: Then next step is engagement. And this is where a
- 12:20Speaker 3: lot of people go wrong. Okay, this is where we
- 12:22Speaker 3: mentioned you want to pick only one or two platforms
- 12:25Speaker 3: because this is not about content, drop and running. Okay,
- 12:29Speaker 3: this is about hey, my customers are here. I'm doing
- 12:33Speaker 3: active reach outs. I'm inviting people to connect. I'm interacting
- 12:37Speaker 3: with people on my feed. And what I really like
- 12:40Speaker 3: to call this step is called virtual networking. You guys
- 12:43Speaker 3: go to live events and you meet all sorts of people.
- 12:47Speaker 3: This is done virtually. There are real, live, breathing people
- 12:51Speaker 3: on the other side of social media. I have met
- 12:54Speaker 3: This is how I got on Netflix originally. I have
- 12:56Speaker 3: met NFL players, I have met people that work for
- 12:59Speaker 3: four My biggest customers have all come from virtual networking
- 13:04Speaker 3: on social media, me having high quality content, but reaching out,
- 13:08Speaker 3: introducing myself, getting to know people like David and I
- 13:12Speaker 3: have right here.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Yep, yeah, absolutely. If you go to Lindsay's LinkedIn and
- 13:17Speaker 1: I love your chance. You know the content you're putting
- 13:19Speaker 1: out there, you'll see interactions and comments back and forth
- 13:23Speaker 1: and engagement. And I was just talking with another colleague
- 13:27Speaker 1: about this last week because we're talking about this, this
- 13:29Speaker 1: idea of you know, the sales conversation and not not
- 13:33Speaker 1: say burning is right word, but going through people too quickly,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and sometimes we do that on social media. Is slow
- 13:37Speaker 1: it down, be intentional, like you said in engaging and
- 13:41Speaker 1: build the relationship, because that could you might have just
- 13:44Speaker 1: going so fast, you've just passed somebody that could be
- 13:46Speaker 1: an ideal, client, ideal, you know, connection, and you're just
- 13:50Speaker 1: like trying to go through the numbers like I just
- 13:51Speaker 1: got to get through all these people or whatever, but
- 13:53Speaker 1: spending the time, like you're saying, Lindsay of doing the
- 13:56Speaker 1: virtual networking, and like I said, go to linds these
- 14:00Speaker 1: LinkedIn profile because you'll see how she does it. And
- 14:03Speaker 1: it's masterful because I got drawn in and you have
- 14:06Speaker 1: so many great comments and people that are engaged with
- 14:09Speaker 1: your content, Lindsay, and so I think just observing how
- 14:12Speaker 1: Lindsay does this is just awesome. And so again that's
- 14:16Speaker 1: how we got connected because there's another colleague of ours
- 14:18Speaker 1: and he was interacting and I saw how they were connecting,
- 14:21Speaker 1: and I'm like, Okay, this is the person that's truly engaged,
- 14:25Speaker 1: truly cares, is paying attention, and you know, builds relationships.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And I think that's what the thing you and I
- 14:34Speaker 1: are passionate out. You build relationships first, then the opportunities come.
- 14:38Speaker 1: And so it's not the other way around. If we're
- 14:40Speaker 1: trying to process opportunities and be it's about building those
- 14:43Speaker 1: relationships and being people like they know you, they like you,
- 14:45Speaker 1: they trust you, right.
- 14:47Speaker 3: That's right. And if you have like a system. So
- 14:49Speaker 3: a lot of people will skip over this, you know, like, oh,
- 14:53Speaker 3: I have fires in the business and so I'm gonna
- 14:55Speaker 3: put that off for today. But like relationship bank accounts,
- 14:59Speaker 3: you got to be positing into those. And it's just
- 15:02Speaker 3: like the workout you do every day. So I work
- 15:05Speaker 3: out every day, and you know, the body and health
- 15:08Speaker 3: I have is the result of what I did three,
- 15:11Speaker 3: six or nine months ago, not of what I did today.
- 15:14Speaker 3: This engagement piece is exactly the same way. If you're
- 15:18Speaker 3: consistent and you have a system around it, and you
- 15:21Speaker 3: deposit into their relationship bank accounts, your business will be
- 15:24Speaker 3: different three six, nine months from now.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And I'll ask just for the audience to clarify lindsay,
- 15:31Speaker 1: because I think sometimes as business owners we get this,
- 15:33Speaker 1: Like I think it's totally necessary to have systems and
- 15:36Speaker 1: processes in place, but you need, in my experience, you
- 15:40Speaker 1: need to be doing this yourself and get in the
- 15:41Speaker 1: habit of this before you start bringing a VA or
- 15:44Speaker 1: other people to help you follow up and doing communication.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It's like you've got to build that relationship and then
- 15:49Speaker 1: of course you can have people help you and follow up,
- 15:51Speaker 1: but you can't sometimes I think some of the business owners like, well,
- 15:53Speaker 1: just get somebody and I'll just outsource this. It's like
- 15:55Speaker 1: they can't speak for you, they don't know you.
- 15:56Speaker 2: You know, it's got to be you.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yes, yes, and so we will do We have services
- 16:03Speaker 3: within my agency where we will do some of this
- 16:05Speaker 3: reach out, but we will always have the business owner
- 16:08Speaker 3: do it first, so that they understand who they're attracting,
- 16:11Speaker 3: how they want to start talking to people, how these
- 16:14Speaker 3: conversations start, and then of course when the conversation gets deeper,
- 16:18Speaker 3: that's got to go back. You are the business owner,
- 16:20Speaker 3: like this is you, but there are ways to systemize it.
- 16:23Speaker 3: But you're not wrong. They need to do it first,
- 16:25Speaker 3: so you actually are like boots on the ground. I
- 16:28Speaker 3: understand who I'm attracting and who I'm talking to here
- 16:32Speaker 3: and is it the right person?
- 16:34Speaker 2: Right? Right?
- 16:35Speaker 1: Absolutely, so that this is so powerful. So we've got
- 16:38Speaker 1: the content, we start with that, we start with that
- 16:40Speaker 1: kind of that messaging and then building the engagement on
- 16:44Speaker 1: top of the content that you're putting out there.
- 16:46Speaker 4: That's right, okay, and that systematically what ay again three
- 16:51Speaker 4: scept three?
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I want step three, So go to step three, lindsay.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Okay, So step three is where most business owners don't
- 16:58Speaker 3: do this. Okay, So most are like, okay, I'm engaging.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Why aren't people pulling their wallets out of their back
- 17:04Speaker 3: pocket and throwing their money at me? They're not doing that,
- 17:07Speaker 3: And it's because like they have an eight second folk,
- 17:10Speaker 3: you know, like they're off to the next thing. They
- 17:12Speaker 3: don't really care about you or working with you. There's
- 17:16Speaker 3: nothing clear here. So you have to spoon feed the
- 17:19Speaker 3: next step to these people. And so the third step
- 17:22Speaker 3: is conversion. And so what is the next step if
- 17:27Speaker 3: you are resonating with what I'm doing here on this video,
- 17:31Speaker 3: if you're resonating with our conversation in the DM, A
- 17:34Speaker 3: very clear next step. So my favorite is what I
- 17:39Speaker 3: call an invite only event. This is a live masterclass
- 17:42Speaker 3: I give on Rinson Repeat that talks about the problems,
- 17:46Speaker 3: showcases what I can do, and brings in high quality
- 17:49Speaker 3: people to a sales call. But people I meet on
- 17:51Speaker 3: social media, I invite them to this, and because it's
- 17:54Speaker 3: Rinse and Repeat, it's a place for us to meet
- 17:57Speaker 3: and for them to actually see what I'm about. Yeah,
- 18:00Speaker 3: so conversion have a next step?
- 18:03Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:04Speaker 1: No, I love I love that you're inviting them, and
- 18:07Speaker 1: you're offering value. You're saying, hey, come check this out.
- 18:12Speaker 1: You see if this is something that you really like,
- 18:14Speaker 1: because they've you know, it's it's I don't know, it's
- 18:16Speaker 1: like kind of like dating. It's like, Okay, we're getting
- 18:18Speaker 1: to know each other a little bit more. Are we
- 18:19Speaker 1: going to get a little more serious here? And so
- 18:22Speaker 1: you're inviting.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Them to say, hey, come come see this.
- 18:26Speaker 1: And I find a lot of business owners I'm approached
- 18:30Speaker 1: where they just skip over this oftentimes and they're just
- 18:32Speaker 1: trying to get to the transaction right and they're like,
- 18:36Speaker 1: they haven't got to know me really, And like you said,
- 18:39Speaker 1: you start with an engagement and then you say, hey,
- 18:42Speaker 1: we've had some good dialogue here, let's just see and
- 18:46Speaker 1: and I think some business owners think, go, well, this
- 18:49Speaker 1: is going to take too much time or but like
- 18:51Speaker 1: you said, you can develop this so that it can
- 18:53Speaker 1: be repeated, and you've got a system and you're able
- 18:56Speaker 1: to deploy that and and the idea is that you
- 18:59Speaker 1: have continual people coming in and so you want to
- 19:02Speaker 1: make it you know, like you said that rins and repeat. Yeah,
- 19:05Speaker 1: So that way you have that opportunity again to invite
- 19:09Speaker 1: them I think that's really powerful. And I will say
- 19:13Speaker 1: I was mentioning before we started recording. I've worked in
- 19:15Speaker 1: the environmental consulting world for many years, and only recently
- 19:20Speaker 1: I've noticed one of my clients they started doing this
- 19:22Speaker 1: a little bit kind of accidentally, where they were trying
- 19:25Speaker 1: to help some of their uh subcontractors get some work
- 19:30Speaker 1: done and and or and they just invited them, let's
- 19:33Speaker 1: do a zoom, let's get this, and it's just kind
- 19:35Speaker 1: of like once they got on that zoom and they
- 19:37Speaker 1: worked through this particular problem or challenge, they're like, oh,
- 19:41Speaker 1: We're so happy we worked with you, and like we
- 19:43Speaker 1: want to we want to keep working with you. And
- 19:45Speaker 1: so because they had that experience, that's such a positive experience.
- 19:48Speaker 1: So I think lindsay to your point of you know,
- 19:51Speaker 1: it's worth that investment. I think sometimes business owners don't
- 19:53Speaker 1: think like, oh, well this is going to take extra
- 19:55Speaker 1: time or whatnot. What would you say to them, like
- 19:58Speaker 1: and just reminded them, like, what is some all to
- 20:00Speaker 1: get this all set up and running?
- 20:02Speaker 3: Well, if it's a rinsecrap masterclasts, so to your point,
- 20:04Speaker 3: which is like a live zoom call. So like in
- 20:07Speaker 3: today's day and age, of AI and and who's doing that?
- 20:10Speaker 3: And are you a real person? Like, intimacy equals sales,
- 20:14Speaker 3: especially for high quality customers. This works for any professional
- 20:17Speaker 3: based business, Okay, insurance, real estate, coaches, consultants, you got
- 20:23Speaker 3: to they need to experience you live because there's so
- 20:27Speaker 3: much crap out there, and so you have to develop
- 20:30Speaker 3: this intimacy. And so for a business owner who's like,
- 20:33Speaker 3: oh my gosh, that takes so much time, you're probably
- 20:36Speaker 3: throwing spaghetti at the wall for all of your marketing anyway,
- 20:39Speaker 3: and you're trying something new all the time, and trying
- 20:42Speaker 3: a new PDF, and trying a new book and trying
- 20:44Speaker 3: to get on another Like all of that is a
- 20:46Speaker 3: waste of time. What you want is a system, a
- 20:49Speaker 3: conversion system in your business that you can easily invite
- 20:54Speaker 3: people to. Maybe you go to a life speaking event,
- 20:56Speaker 3: you have an invite only event next Thursday, invite all
- 20:58Speaker 3: those guys, and it's rinse and repeat. It takes no time,
- 21:02Speaker 3: and it gets better every time you do it. So
- 21:04Speaker 3: it's an hour a week for this conversion once you
- 21:07Speaker 3: get off and running.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yeah no, that makes sense to me, Lindsey, And I
- 21:12Speaker 1: think again, like you said, it gets better as you
- 21:14Speaker 1: do it.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I it out, guys, stop throwing out all your marketing. Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 3: there's stuff in there that works.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and then a little bit right, figure that out. Okay,
- 21:24Speaker 2: that didn't work, adjust it.
- 21:27Speaker 1: But again there's I've again learned from others, there's pitfalls
- 21:31Speaker 1: here too, because the people were like, well, I just
- 21:32Speaker 1: want to record it once and then I'll just put
- 21:34Speaker 1: an auto right.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Pitfall Right, it hasn't converted anybody ever, and you record it,
- 21:41Speaker 3: guess how many people it's going to convert. Zero? Instead,
- 21:45Speaker 3: you give it on rinse and repeat, and you're like,
- 21:47Speaker 3: until you know it works and converts, then we can
- 21:50Speaker 3: talk about recording it. But like you thinking that you
- 21:53Speaker 3: know exactly what to say and how to say it
- 21:56Speaker 3: that will get some high quality person on a sales call,
- 21:59Speaker 3: it's not going to happen. M you're wasting your time.
- 22:03Speaker 3: I understand. We all want an evergreen funnel. The people
- 22:06Speaker 3: who have those put years. Like Russell Brunton will say,
- 22:10Speaker 3: does a webinar one hundred times live before you even
- 22:14Speaker 3: think about recording it? I couldn't agree.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my mentors, garat Jay, why the same thing,
- 22:20Speaker 1: just watching and seeing and I've been fortunate to be
- 22:24Speaker 1: able to literally watch behind the scenes and see all
- 22:26Speaker 1: these things work, because it does take time, and it
- 22:29Speaker 1: takes all these little tweaks and things, and like you said,
- 22:32Speaker 1: and then people, you know, then you can add paid
- 22:34Speaker 1: advertising and all that stuff on top of it once
- 22:36Speaker 1: you figure out it works.
- 22:37Speaker 3: But if you don't so money, it's something that you
- 22:39Speaker 3: don't know if it works or not.
- 22:41Speaker 4: That sucks really yeah, yeah, right, And a lot of
- 22:44Speaker 4: people get suckered into that, like you know, unfortunately I
- 22:47Speaker 4: hate to say it with like, oh, well, they're just
- 22:49Speaker 4: kind of throwing things around and they haven't got clear
- 22:52Speaker 4: And anybody can almost anybody can be a marketing agency
- 22:55Speaker 4: or you know, hey, I can get you on social media, right.
- 22:57Speaker 1: But what you're hearing from Lindsay is that she's through
- 23:00Speaker 1: this process step by step to help you avoid the pitfalls,
- 23:04Speaker 1: you know. And and so if we do these things,
- 23:08Speaker 1: and we're going to come to step four, but you know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: do the content marketing, do the engagement, and now get
- 23:13Speaker 1: the system in place, what would be then the next
- 23:16Speaker 1: step that we need to do, Lindsay the final.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Step and we've already hinted at this, which is amplify,
- 23:21Speaker 3: so amplify what's working and test what isn't. So within
- 23:25Speaker 3: all of those steps there's little metrics that you can
- 23:29Speaker 3: track that will say, oh, this is working, oh this isn't.
- 23:33Speaker 3: And so I can give you an example, like, for example, content,
- 23:37Speaker 3: you go look at your content, which how many views,
- 23:40Speaker 3: how many likes, how many shares, how many comments? Like
- 23:43Speaker 3: you're going to have some results there, find the winner
- 23:47Speaker 3: and redo it. Do it again, this time a little
- 23:49Speaker 3: bit better. But there's winners. There's winners in the metrics.
- 23:53Speaker 3: So you amplify the winners and test the stuff that
- 23:57Speaker 3: isn't working but don't about right.
- 24:01Speaker 1: And this is where somebody like you, Lindsay comes in
- 24:03Speaker 1: and how she makes sense of all that stuff, Like
- 24:06Speaker 1: you just laid it out there, right, that's right, because
- 24:09Speaker 1: you know, I'm not an expert in that, and I
- 24:11Speaker 1: don't even know where to look at all that stuff,
- 24:13Speaker 1: And quite honestly, I don't want to spend the time
- 24:15Speaker 1: as a business owner.
- 24:16Speaker 2: You shouldn't just have somebody like.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Yeah, right, that's exactly right, That is exactly right. You
- 24:22Speaker 3: have a professional do it and tell and analyze that
- 24:25Speaker 3: stuff and then tell you what gets better, what won't
- 24:27Speaker 3: work is for you posting endlessly on social media for
- 24:31Speaker 3: years and years and years, never looking at that and
- 24:33Speaker 3: hoping one day you'll crack a code that you're not
- 24:36Speaker 3: even monitoring.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Mm hmm, yeah, it won't work, right.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Too competitive like social, everybody wants to be on social.
- 24:46Speaker 3: There's so many people on social right, everybody loves my
- 24:48Speaker 3: kids want to be on social sucks h.
- 24:54Speaker 1: But you know, I mean going back, you know, I
- 24:57Speaker 1: really like what you said at the beginning, too, is
- 24:59Speaker 1: like where you know, as we're doing these things, like
- 25:02Speaker 1: I'm sure you when you're doing and analyzing this, you know,
- 25:06Speaker 1: are are are we get Are we at where our
- 25:08Speaker 1: clients need to be? Are they Are we in the
- 25:10Speaker 1: right place? Are we posting that all these you know
- 25:13Speaker 1: questions because sometimes, like you said, one platform maybe much
- 25:18Speaker 1: better than the other, Like you and I are both
- 25:20Speaker 1: on LinkedIn because that's where our ideal clients are, you know,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and so it's one thing. It's like, Okay, our ideal
- 25:28Speaker 1: clients are there. It's like going back to what was
- 25:30Speaker 1: just going back to this whole cycle, like you're saying, Okay,
- 25:33Speaker 1: they're there, but we're not converting, We're not getting there.
- 25:36Speaker 1: What do we need to tweak along these steps? Right?
- 25:39Speaker 2: Is it the is it the engagement? Are we not
- 25:42Speaker 2: engaging them? Well? Is it?
- 25:43Speaker 1: Is it that invitation to that you know one hour
- 25:46Speaker 1: seven or maybe that needs.
- 25:47Speaker 2: To be tweaked right, Yeah, that's exactly.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Yeah, My favorite metrics are really where it really shines
- 25:53Speaker 3: through is on that invite only event metrics. So so
- 25:56Speaker 3: we collect how many invites were extended, how many rs vps,
- 26:01Speaker 3: how many people attended, how many people got on a
- 26:05Speaker 3: sales call, and how many people closed. Now, based on
- 26:09Speaker 3: what those numbers are, I know your invite sucks because
- 26:12Speaker 3: no one's coming, or your invite is great, but nobody's
- 26:15Speaker 3: getting on that call. That means your sales pitch on
- 26:19Speaker 3: the on that masterclass needs to be tightened up. Like
- 26:22Speaker 3: it's very obvious when you just track a few things
- 26:26Speaker 3: what needs tightened, what works and am you know, amplify
- 26:28Speaker 3: what works and tests the rest?
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's I mean that is that's so important.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I mean I having done these steps that you're talking at,
- 26:38Speaker 1: Lindsay and looking and it's making me think about, Okay,
- 26:41Speaker 1: where are those things? Because it's there you can be
- 26:44Speaker 1: broken down, like you said, and looking you know, having
- 26:46Speaker 1: somebody like yourself, lindsay look at that and say, okay,
- 26:49Speaker 1: you know you got them to the you got them
- 26:51Speaker 1: to the event, great, amazing, but you maybe you didn't
- 26:54Speaker 1: close well or you didn't communicate the you know, the
- 26:57Speaker 1: message the better so that there's a follow up through
- 26:59Speaker 1: the there's a disconnect, you know what is that? I
- 27:03Speaker 1: had feedback just just on on when I had recently.
- 27:06Speaker 1: It's like, hey, you're not connecting you know more emotionally.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I was like, okay, I guess stuck in my head.
- 27:10Speaker 1: So how do I hit the heart.
- 27:11Speaker 2: A little bit more? You know? Again where my clients at? Right?
- 27:15Speaker 3: That's right, that's right, exactly right, David. Yeah, And so
- 27:18Speaker 3: just just tracking that and and most small business owners
- 27:21Speaker 3: are like, well, no one signed up for my sales call.
- 27:24Speaker 3: I'm starting from scratch. And it's like that that is
- 27:27Speaker 3: a mistake because there's stuff in there that's working. You
- 27:30Speaker 3: just need to know. You just need to be able
- 27:31Speaker 3: to like break it down and figure out what is
- 27:33Speaker 3: what worked there and what didn't?
- 27:36Speaker 2: Right? Right?
- 27:39Speaker 1: No, I mean and that's and that's hard. I mean again,
- 27:42Speaker 1: that's why you haven't a Yeah, I mean it's.
- 27:44Speaker 3: A skill set. Yeah, find somebody to help you. Okay,
- 27:46Speaker 3: you don't have time for this. You need to be
- 27:48Speaker 3: serving customers. There's ways to make social media work. Find
- 27:52Speaker 3: someone like me to help you. So, Like, even down
- 27:55Speaker 3: to the content thing. One of my favorite services that
- 27:57Speaker 3: we provide is I will interview a business owner for
- 28:01Speaker 3: an hour a month and we will create those thirty
- 28:04Speaker 3: days of high converting content. We make sure that it's
- 28:06Speaker 3: talking to their ideal client, but it is one recording
- 28:09Speaker 3: session a month and then you're done. Imagine the freedom.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Imagine that's awesome.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Yeah, because you have a system, but a process. You know,
- 28:18Speaker 1: I have right ask the right questions and now you
- 28:20Speaker 1: know it's all broken down, which is you know, versus
- 28:23Speaker 1: you spending like me or the business that are like
- 28:25Speaker 1: trying to figure this all out and spending hours and
- 28:28Speaker 1: not getting what you really want and like having to
- 28:31Speaker 1: mess with it all David.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, Like yeah, I spent hours and hours and
- 28:37Speaker 3: hours a day on this, like, you know, to figure
- 28:39Speaker 3: it out for my clients. With my clients, I have
- 28:41Speaker 3: twenty years of experience, like all wrapped up, and you
- 28:44Speaker 3: can just have it in one hour a month, you know,
- 28:47Speaker 3: because you're hiring somebody for their expertise.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:51Speaker 3: We'll think social media should be easy because it's like
- 28:53Speaker 3: upload a video across you know, like it should work,
- 28:56Speaker 3: and like it just doesn't.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, like you said that. And things are always
- 29:02Speaker 1: changing too. Algorithms, how things are prioritized. It's just you know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: so you're you've got your you know, finger on the pulse,
- 29:10Speaker 1: you know, seeing where those things are.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Shifting, and and it's just it is what it is.
- 29:15Speaker 1: And one thing I found fascinating Lindsay is you, like
- 29:17Speaker 1: you said, you might have a message.
- 29:19Speaker 2: I've seen this.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Where it totally works, it could be amplified, it's amazing,
- 29:24Speaker 1: it's it's converting, it's doing all those things. But then
- 29:27Speaker 1: six months from now, that same message it was completely working,
- 29:30Speaker 1: is not working anymore.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you've got to You've got to always have your
- 29:34Speaker 3: eye on those analytics because they will tell you. They
- 29:37Speaker 3: will tell you, and your customers will to because you're
- 29:39Speaker 3: always changing. We're all evolving, our businesses are evolving how
- 29:42Speaker 3: we market and serve, so your marketing needs to keep
- 29:45Speaker 3: up with that. I think that's a beautiful part about
- 29:47Speaker 3: social media is it is real quick, like you can
- 29:51Speaker 3: change things as the world changes. And and it'll get
- 29:54Speaker 3: out there. So I think that's a real strength of
- 29:56Speaker 3: social media as long as you know what you're watching for.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Right, and and that's why, you know, the whole reason
- 30:03Speaker 1: why if we have the business round table podcasts and
- 30:05Speaker 1: having folks like Lindsay here so you can hear and
- 30:07Speaker 1: learn and say, look, I don't mean to be messing
- 30:10Speaker 1: with all this stuff. Let me let me work with
- 30:12Speaker 1: somebody that gets this and understands this and like compresses
- 30:16Speaker 1: time if.
- 30:16Speaker 2: You will, moving you forward.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Right, Yes, that actually works because just you guessing on
- 30:22Speaker 3: social I hate to tell you it just isn't going
- 30:24Speaker 3: to work. It just doesn't work for most people.
- 30:27Speaker 1: No, no, again, it's the same thing. You know why
- 30:31Speaker 1: you and I connected. I'm the people side of things.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I love people and helping them. And again you could
- 30:35Speaker 1: bess with that in your business. But finding people that
- 30:38Speaker 1: are you know, coaches or consultants that help you can
- 30:42Speaker 1: again compress that time, move you along so you can focus,
- 30:45Speaker 1: like you said, Lindsay, on the things that you do best.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that you like. Chances are you don't like to
- 30:50Speaker 3: eat social media marketing for breakfast like me, Okay, I
- 30:53Speaker 3: do leave it to me.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Yes, yes, this is this is awesome, Lindsay.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I know there's probably way more we could do here,
- 31:01Speaker 1: but I think this is probably a good spot to
- 31:02Speaker 1: stop because I want people to connect with you, engage
- 31:05Speaker 1: with you. And again we talked about it, but LinkedIn
- 31:08Speaker 1: is that your that's your main profile? What's your website
- 31:10Speaker 1: or how euse people can find?
- 31:11Speaker 3: Yeah you can. You can go to Lindsaya dot com.
- 31:14Speaker 3: I am on several social media platforms, but definitely LinkedIn.
- 31:17Speaker 3: I really, I mean it's one of my top ones
- 31:19Speaker 3: for sure. So please reach out. Let me know. You
- 31:22Speaker 3: heard me on the on the the Steward your Business
- 31:25Speaker 3: podcast and I'm so so excited to hear from you.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, so so glad to have you here
- 31:31Speaker 1: on the podcast.
- 31:33Speaker 2: We would love to have you come back again.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I'm sure we're gonna have more as as as everything's evolving,
- 31:38Speaker 1: right Like I said earlier, you know.
- 31:39Speaker 2: What do we look now?
- 31:40Speaker 1: But these steps are solid. I hope everybody was taking
- 31:44Speaker 1: good notes or come back and listen to this. We're
- 31:46Speaker 1: on all of your We're on YouTube and we so
- 31:48Speaker 1: you guys can follow us along there or of course
