Speaker 3: had a whole lot of those this summer, but it

Speaker 3: was pretty nice out there. Coming up this morning, we'll
• 1:58
Speaker 3: spend some time target yuh one. In one segment, something
• 2:01
Speaker 3: actually happens much north of here. It's the annual West
• 2:04
Speaker 3: Virginia Italian Heritage Festival, and there's a lot of people
• 2:09
Speaker 3: from this year that like to go up there, so
• 2:10
Speaker 3: we're going to talk about that a little bit. Plus,

• 2:50
Speaker 3: Charlestony joins us now Robert Good morning. Welcome to the show.
• 2:53
Speaker 5: Thank you, Dave, good morning.
• 2:54
Speaker 3: You survived the Steve Annimal experience on our sister station
• 2:57
Speaker 3: ninety eighty seven the Mountain.
• 2:58
Speaker 5: So did he was? He was relatively time to me.
• 3:01
Speaker 3: Well, he must have brought him something. So how many
• 3:04
Speaker 3: years this thing been going on?
• 3:05
Speaker 5: Well, the event's been going on for many years, probably
• 3:09
Speaker 5: more than fifteen. This is our fourth year up at
• 3:11
  Speaker 5: the flight.
• 3:12
Speaker 3: School, though, and I think it was helped Embassy suites
• 3:15
Speaker 3: at one point and maybe other places talk about habit
• 3:19
Speaker 3: up at the at the flight school, at the actual
• 3:21
Speaker 3: flight school in the hangar. I mean, that's pretty it's
• 3:23
Speaker 3: a pretty cool venue.
• 3:24
Speaker 5: It is a very cool venue. You're up there and
• 3:27
Speaker 5: see the tarmac, see the planes up in the big hangar,
• 3:31
Speaker 5: lots of marshall things on the wall. It's a really neat,
• 3:35
Speaker 5: neat spot. And we started doing that during COVID, back
• 3:38
Speaker 5: when everybody may remember social distancing, so we were trying
• 3:41
Speaker 5: to get a somewhat outdoor venue and it was such
• 3:44
Speaker 5: a hit. We've gone back every year since then.
• 3:47
Speaker 3: And I love habited up there. I mean because it's
• 3:50
Speaker 3: such a unique with the first time I attended one
• 3:52
Speaker 3: of the which is probably the first year that it
• 3:54
Speaker 3: was up there, I thought this is going to be
• 3:55
Speaker 3: a little bit weird having this event inside an airplane hangar,
• 3:58
Speaker 3: but it actually works out really really well because, especially
• 4:02
Speaker 3: if it's a nice night, you can open the doors
• 4:06
Speaker 3: and get a little breeze blowing in. And plus it's
• 4:08
Speaker 3: really good advertisement for the bill No Flight School as well,
• 4:12
Speaker 3: which is just a real gem here in West Virginia.
• 4:14
Speaker 5: It is, and they'll usually have one of the Marshall
• 4:17
Speaker 5: planes sitting out there on the outside the hangar, and
• 4:21
Speaker 5: one year, Coach Tough actually flew in on the Marshall
• 4:24
Speaker 5: plane to come and speak at the event.
• 4:26
Speaker 3: Now, for those who don't know what exactly goes on
• 4:30
Speaker 3: at these events, I mean this as you said, it's
• 4:32
Speaker 3: been going on for at least fifteen years up to
• 4:34
Speaker 3: bill No Flight School. For the last four or so,
• 4:36
Speaker 3: it's just a big party to celebrate the Thundering Herd, food,
• 4:39
Speaker 3: auction items, cheerleaders bands. I mean, it's just a big
• 4:42
  Speaker 3: old party.
• 4:42
Speaker 5: Historically it's been a kickoff for football season. In recent
• 4:45
Speaker 5: years it's started to morph into more of a celebration
• 4:48
Speaker 5: of fall sports at Marshall. This year we've got a
• 4:50
Speaker 5: panel of coaches. We have a cross country coach, Caleb Bowen,
• 4:54
Speaker 5: who may not be a household name, but if you're
• 4:57
Speaker 5: an ultrarunner, he just ran the Western States on hundred
• 5:00
Speaker 5: trail race out in California and that's considered the super
• 5:04
Speaker 5: Bowl of ultra running and he finished in the top
• 5:06
Speaker 5: twenty five, so he's excellent coach there. We've got both
• 5:10
Speaker 5: new basketball coaches, Corney Jackson for the men, Julie Fulks
• 5:13
Speaker 5: for the women, and then of course the football head coach,
• 5:16
Speaker 5: Charles Huff will be there.
• 5:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's going to be an interesting season, I
• 5:20
Speaker 3: think for the Thundering Heard football team.
• 5:22
Speaker 5: It is. We've got two huge early season away games.
• 5:27
Speaker 5: We've got going to Blacksburg play Virginia Tech, and then
• 5:30
Speaker 5: there's some team in Columbus that we're going to just
• 5:33
Speaker 5: gonna go up and see some.
• 5:34
Speaker 3: Team in a horseshoe up in Columbus. And then we're
• 5:37
Speaker 3: talking with Robert stone Street from the Marshall University Quarterback
• 5:40
Speaker 3: Club at Charleston about the Paint the Capital City Green
• 5:42
Speaker 3: event presented by Ball Toyota. It's happening one week from
• 5:45
Speaker 3: this Wednesday up at Billido Flight School at West Virginia
• 5:48
Speaker 3: International Yeager Airport. And one of the things I think too,
• 5:51
Speaker 3: I like about habit up there, Robert. It's not such
• 5:53
Speaker 3: a formal type setting. I mean again, you don't need
• 5:56
Speaker 3: to dress up. I mean, just wear your Marshall gear
• 5:59
Speaker 3: enjoy a what turns out to be a tailgate party.
• 6:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's very tailgate themed, where your Marshal gear. The
• 6:06
Speaker 5: event is catered by James Beard Award winning chef Paul
• 6:10
Speaker 5: Smith at ten ten Bridge. So there's very good, very
• 6:13
Speaker 5: good food. There'll be some craft beer there. Fife Street
• 6:16
Speaker 5: Brewing is one of our sponsors, so we'll have some
• 6:18
Speaker 5: local beer. It's just a really great time.
• 6:21
Speaker 3: It is indeed, and of course myself and Steve Animal,
• 6:23
Speaker 3: as I mentioned the aforementioned Steve Animal from nine eight
• 6:26
Speaker 3: seven the mouth that we'll be serving as the MC.
• 6:28
Speaker 3: So that ought to tell you right there that it's
• 6:30
Speaker 3: not a very serious event.
• 6:32
Speaker 5: Right well, I'll leave it at that.
• 6:36
Speaker 3: You turn it over to me an Animal, I mean,
• 6:38
Speaker 3: how serious could the thing be? And where can people
• 6:40
  Speaker 3: get tickets?
• 6:41
Speaker 5: You can go to Marshall Biggreen dot org to register.
• 6:45
Speaker 5: We have options. You can buy individual tickets for fifty
• 6:48
Speaker 5: dollars if you want to sponsor a table for ten,
• 6:52
Speaker 5: Those start at eleven hundred dollars for a white sponsor,
• 6:55
Speaker 5: and then a Green sponsor's twenty six hundred dollars. Comes
• 6:58
Speaker 5: with some other perks that you can find out about
• 7:00
Speaker 5: at the Marshall Biggreen dot org website.

• 7:20
Speaker 3: Because what you don't know can't hurt you. And where
• 7:21
Speaker 3: does the money raised? Where does it go to?
• 7:23
Speaker 5: All the way he raised benefits the Big Green Scholarship
• 7:27
Speaker 5: Foundation which supports all of the different Marshall Athletic programs.
• 7:32
Speaker 3: And the college Landscape. I had Tony Caridi on a
• 7:35
Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago previewing the Inside the Huddle event
• 7:38
Speaker 3: which was just held recently over here, speaking of Baltoyota.
• 7:41
Speaker 3: It was in the Baltoyota Event Center, Patrick Street. The
• 7:45
Speaker 3: landscape of college Athletics, Robert, and you've been around this
• 7:48
Speaker 3: for a long time have changed so so much, and
• 7:51
Speaker 3: Marshall was not immune to that.
• 7:52
Speaker 5: No, we're not. And one of us speakers will have
• 7:55
Speaker 5: at Panther Capital is Stevie Browning, who is heading up
• 7:58
Speaker 5: the Thunder Trust. He's involved in the NIL business. But
• 8:03
Speaker 5: you're right, things are a lot different nowadays.
• 8:05
Speaker 3: Well and people and again Tony and I talked about
• 8:08
Speaker 3: this a couple of weeks ago. I mean, people can
• 8:10
Speaker 3: talk about the NIL all they want to, but the
• 8:12
Speaker 3: bottom line is it ain't going anywhere, and it's changed
• 8:15
Speaker 3: college the athletics. And we've seen, as Tony and I
• 8:19
Speaker 3: talked about, we've seen more changes in the world of
• 8:22
Speaker 3: college sports in the last two to three years than
• 8:25
Speaker 3: probably in the previous fifty.
• 8:28
Speaker 5: Probably true money. Money makes a big difference, and you're
• 8:31
Speaker 5: right it's only going to get more of an issue
• 8:35
Speaker 5: as we go forward.
• 8:36
Speaker 3: How do you feel about the Sun Belt Conference as
• 8:38
  Speaker 3: a Marshall fan?
• 8:38
Speaker 5: I like the Sun Belt Conference. This is hard to believe.
• 8:41
Speaker 5: It's our third season now in the Sun Belt and
• 8:44
Speaker 5: we've got some really good teams there, obviously Marshall, and
• 8:48
Speaker 5: then you've got the other Mountaineers Appalachian State. They're coming
• 8:51
Speaker 5: to the jone this year and then JMU James Madison
• 8:54
Speaker 5: University I think was in cracked the top twenty five
• 8:57
  Speaker 5: last year.
• 8:57
Speaker 3: And I like the rivalries that we have this conference too.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: I mean we had we had some good rivalries. I
• 9:02
Speaker 3: was there during the Southern Conference days and we had
• 9:04
Speaker 3: some good rivalries there. We also had some good rivalries
• 9:07
Speaker 3: in the MAC. But to be honest, other than one
• 9:10
Speaker 3: or two schools, it was kind of hard to get
• 9:12
Speaker 3: fired up about Tulane, you know, some of the and
• 9:15
Speaker 3: I'm just using that as example, some of the some
• 9:17
Speaker 3: of the UTEP or some of these schools that were
• 9:19
Speaker 3: so far away. At least there is a little bit
• 9:22
Speaker 3: of regionality in this conference.
• 9:24
Speaker 5: Yes, there there is, and I think it's a really
• 9:27
Speaker 5: good move for Marshall. And if you just look at
• 9:29
Speaker 5: where Conference USA is today, that'll tell you as well.
• 9:32
Speaker 5: We made a very good decision.
• 9:34
Speaker 3: All right, give us all the details again.
• 9:36
Speaker 5: So the event is Wednesday, August twenty first doors open
• 9:41
Speaker 5: at six o'clock, the program will start around six thirty
• 9:44
Speaker 5: six forty five ish. Tickets are available at marshall Big

• 9:55
Speaker 5: Individual tickets fifty bucks and table sponsors started at eleven
• 9:58
  Speaker 5: hundred dollars and.
• 9:59
Speaker 3: Again plum of free food, plenty of drink. The cheerleaders
• 10:03
Speaker 3: are there, the Marshall supporters, the coaches are all going
• 10:05
Speaker 3: to be there, looking forward to there, looking forward to
• 10:07
Speaker 3: seeing and and it's really a great event too because
• 10:10
Speaker 3: Marshall University has got such a huge footprint Robert here
• 10:14
Speaker 3: in the Charleston area and this event, if it doesn't
• 10:17
Speaker 3: sell out, it usually comes pretty.
• 10:18
Speaker 5: Close, it does. I think we did sell out last
• 10:21
Speaker 5: year and we're getting close this year. So get your tickets.
• 10:24
Speaker 3: What does a sellout? What number we're looking at Approxmate
• 10:26
  Speaker 3: thousand or.
• 10:26
Speaker 5: So, probably not that many.
• 10:28
Speaker 3: Just like the documentary three hundred, three hundred, four hundred. Well,
• 10:31
Speaker 3: we have certain rules up there with THEE and we
• 10:34
Speaker 3: also found out that you cannot take the planes out
• 10:36
Speaker 3: for a spin. I can't tell you why. Yeah, they
• 10:39
Speaker 3: found up on that animal. If you're listening, we cannot
• 10:41
Speaker 3: take the planes out. So all right, man, I appreciate
• 10:44
Speaker 3: you being here. Agains, Steve and I are going to
• 10:45
Speaker 3: be serving as the MC's for the event. It's one

• 14:13
Speaker 3: in the Hurricane area, and it's a very popular thing.
• 14:16
Speaker 3: A lot of folks in the community are upset about it,
• 14:18
Speaker 3: a lot of business people because of the economic impact
• 14:21
Speaker 3: that the Meek's Mountain Trails has in that area. Hurricane
• 14:24
Speaker 3: Mayor Scott Edwards is one of those, and he's going
• 14:25
Speaker 3: to join us on the show to talk about it tomorrow.
• 14:29
Speaker 3: The story the story has been all over the news
• 14:31
Speaker 3: for some time here the situation of vombingy the Tyler
• 14:34
Speaker 3: Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters have resigned some board members too.
• 14:37
Speaker 3: In fact, I guess the last man standing is board
• 14:40
Speaker 3: member Barry Holsteed. He joins us now into par Mars
• 14:43
Speaker 3: Store studio. Barry, good morning, welcome to the show, Good
• 14:45
Speaker 3: morning day, Thank you for being here. So what exactly
• 14:47
Speaker 3: cost all this? Take us back to the very beginning.
• 14:51
Speaker 3: What's the issue here?
• 14:52
Speaker 4: So, to my knowledge, the way I understand it, a
• 14:55
Speaker 4: couple of months ago, some of the firefighters maybe had
• 14:59
Speaker 4: some agreements with the board. There was some some internal strife,
• 15:05
Speaker 4: if you will, that was going on, and I think
• 15:07
Speaker 4: it's been bubbling for a little bit. I've been on
• 15:09
Speaker 4: the outside. I was not on the board previous, had
• 15:13
Speaker 4: little interaction frankly, with the fire department other than you know,
• 15:18
Speaker 4: through some with another nonprofit in the community. I had
• 15:21
Speaker 4: worked with the fire department in the past to do
• 15:23
Speaker 4: some community work, but I really wasn't that engaged until
• 15:29
Speaker 4: I started getting some phone calls from concerned community members
• 15:35
Speaker 4: talking about the fire department and maybe there was some
• 15:38
Speaker 4: internal strife going on.
• 15:40
Speaker 3: So when you say internal strife, Barry, what were I
• 15:43
Speaker 3: know you weren't part of the board, sure, but what
• 15:44
Speaker 3: have you heard? What were some of the issues that
• 15:46
Speaker 3: were being discussed there?
• 15:47
Speaker 4: So I've heard. I've heard things from perhaps inappropriate use
• 15:53
Speaker 4: of funding, other mismanagement kind of things going on firefighter,
• 16:00
Speaker 4: perhaps even violating some safety rules, that kind of thing.
• 16:06
Speaker 4: So I've heard a lot. And when it came time
• 16:10
Speaker 4: at the point with which the firefighters decided enough's enough
• 16:16
Speaker 4: and they felt strong enough about their their their situation
• 16:21
Speaker 4: to walk off, then I knew was that to me
• 16:25
Speaker 4: was this It had been bubbling up apparently, and that
• 16:28
Speaker 4: was the point of Okay, enough's enough and things are
• 16:31
Speaker 4: going to change. So when they walked off suddenly, you know,
• 16:35
Speaker 4: as an interested community member, I've been in Cross Lanes
• 16:39
Speaker 4: now for thirty years, I wanted to step in and
• 16:42
Speaker 4: see if I could be of any assistance, see if
• 16:44
Speaker 4: I can help it, or at least understand what was
• 16:47
Speaker 4: going on, because that doesn't happen every day. It doesn't
• 16:49
Speaker 4: happen that suddenly half the firefighter and how.
• 16:52
Speaker 3: Many numbers will you say half? I mean approximately how
• 16:54
  Speaker 3: many is that?
• 16:55
Speaker 4: So currently we're at the last count, we're actually up
• 16:59
Speaker 4: to twenty one firefighters. So when we talk about ten,
• 17:02
Speaker 4: we were talking about half the firefighters on the squad
• 17:06
Speaker 4: there in Tyler Mountain or in Cross Lanes. So when
• 17:10
Speaker 4: that happened. Obviously, that's that's an indication that something significance
• 17:14
Speaker 4: going on. I showed up just like one hundred other
• 17:17
Speaker 4: people or so for a community board meeting, and I listened,
• 17:21
Speaker 4: and I provided the board with had an opportunity to speak.
• 17:25
Speaker 4: I provided them with some ideas to be more transparent,
• 17:30
Speaker 4: because it seemed like transparency was one of the key
• 17:33
Speaker 4: issues things were going on. Maybe you know, folks didn't
• 17:38
Speaker 4: understand them or didn't know about them. And with that
• 17:40
Speaker 4: so I offered some transparency tactics that maybe the board
• 17:44
Speaker 4: could employ. I was then alerted that there was a
• 17:47
Speaker 4: board opening, and after a lot of consideration, I put
• 17:52
Speaker 4: my name in the hat. And if I was could
• 17:54
Speaker 4: bring value to the organization, then I was more un
• 17:56
Speaker 4: happy to serve my community in that way, at least
• 17:59
Speaker 4: until you know, an election in the future that was
• 18:02
Speaker 4: scheduled came up. In particular, their by laws, you know,
• 18:07
Speaker 4: needed a lot of work and that kind of stuff.
• 18:08
Speaker 4: So I was willing to do that to do that work,
• 18:12
Speaker 4: and I was subsequently appointed by the board or selected
• 18:16
Speaker 4: from a group of candidates to fill that open position.
• 18:19
Speaker 3: I'm going to ask you, how exactly do they place
• 18:22
Speaker 3: people on the board. So what's the process like.
• 18:26
Speaker 4: So typically there is an election, Well, there is an
• 18:30
Speaker 4: election every year in September by the bye laws, where
• 18:33
Speaker 4: they elect new board members. If a board member resigns
• 18:38
Speaker 4: or if there is an opening for whatever reason on
• 18:40
Speaker 4: the board, then the remaining board members can accept applications
• 18:44
Speaker 4: and appoints a person for the unexpired term until such
• 18:49
Speaker 4: time that the election can be held. And that was
• 18:51
Speaker 4: the case with me. There was an open position that
• 18:54
Speaker 4: they were trying to feel, so the board collectively reviewed
• 18:58
Speaker 4: applicants and selected me to be on the board to
• 19:01
Speaker 4: feel that unexpired term.
• 19:03
Speaker 3: And so how many board members are there now?
• 19:07
  Speaker 4: Now?
• 19:07
Speaker 3: It's just me last man standing.
• 19:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think I kind of joked about it
• 19:13
Speaker 4: because one of the news agencies reported that all board
• 19:17
Speaker 4: members minus one resigned and so my nickname was minus one.
• 19:25
Speaker 3: Sell some T shirts with that I raise a little money.
• 19:27
Speaker 4: For the fire department, right that. So yeah, so the
• 19:32
Speaker 4: board exists. Now I am the sole board member remaining.
• 19:35
Speaker 4: I'm a community member on the board, but our byalls
• 19:38
Speaker 4: doesn't they don't allow me the option to appoint new
• 19:43
Speaker 4: board members because it's just one and it takes four
• 19:46
Speaker 4: board members to appoint a new board member, So until
• 19:51
Speaker 4: the elections in September, it's me now by virtue of
• 19:56
Speaker 4: our chief. Our fire chief also resigned, but by two
• 20:00
Speaker 4: other bills that did allow me to make our assistant chief,
• 20:03
Speaker 4: Thomas Robinson. It allowed me to move him into the
• 20:07
Speaker 4: acting chief spot. So he is. He and I have
• 20:10
Speaker 4: been working very closely together to kind of make sure
• 20:13
Speaker 4: things are still operational, things are going well.
• 20:16
Speaker 3: John's Berry Holstein of that's kind of weird to say
• 20:19
Speaker 3: of the board when when you are the board of
• 20:21
Speaker 3: the Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department in the heart of
• 20:24
Speaker 3: West Virginia, there exists a profound force that goes beyond
• 20:26
Speaker 3: the realm of sports, transcending limitations and fostering a sense
• 20:30
Speaker 3: of belonging. Special Olympics remarkable initiative showcase of the latest
• 20:34
Speaker 3: episode of West Virginia Enriched and collaboration with Huntington stands
• 20:37
Speaker 3: as a testament to the power of determination, unity and
• 20:40
Speaker 3: unwavering support. See of video highlighting the Special Olympics at
• 20:43
Speaker 3: Facebook dot com slash five eighty wcchs. All right, so, Barry,
• 20:48
Speaker 3: what has bit you mentioned? The public meeting there was
• 20:50
Speaker 3: well over one hundred people that came out. How many
• 20:52
Speaker 3: public meetings had there been There was there one or two.
• 20:54
Speaker 4: So there was at the point right after the firefighters resigned,
• 21:03
Speaker 4: there was a normal monthly board meeting that occurred, which
• 21:06
Speaker 4: is always open to the community. And at that point,
• 21:09
Speaker 4: you know, the word had gotten out that these firefighters
• 21:12
Speaker 4: had resigned, so you know, obviously it brought in a
• 21:15
Speaker 4: crowd of concerned community members to that particular board meeting.
• 21:19
  Speaker 3: And that was.
• 21:21
Speaker 4: About six weeks ago or so, maybe two maybe two
• 21:24
Speaker 4: months ago that that that board meeting existed, and that's
• 21:27
Speaker 4: when they still had the full board, and that's when
• 21:29
Speaker 4: I showed up to offer some some opportunities for improvement
• 21:34
  Speaker 4: with the board.
• 21:36
Speaker 3: What has been the response of the community during all this,
• 21:38
Speaker 3: Because again, it's anytime you agreed to serve on a board,
• 21:42
Speaker 3: and I've served on plenty of them, you know, there's
• 21:45
Speaker 3: a lot of responsibility that comes with it, but this
• 21:48
Speaker 3: one even more so because this is this is first
• 21:50
Speaker 3: responders we're talking about. This, This is people's safety in
• 21:53
Speaker 3: their lives that could be could be jeopardized here. What
• 21:56
Speaker 3: is the community response to all that's been very well?
• 22:00
Speaker 4: So we had a after my appointment to the board,
• 22:04
Speaker 4: my very first what would have been my first public
• 22:06
Speaker 4: board meeting just last month. The that was the point
• 22:13
Speaker 4: that literally a few hours before the board meeting, when
• 22:15
Speaker 4: the when the remainder of the board decided to resign.
• 22:19
Speaker 4: I think again, there was a lot of it was
• 22:23
Speaker 4: just a lot of challenges going on between the board
• 22:26
Speaker 4: members and between the firefighters and and everything. So they
• 22:29
Speaker 4: decided that it was in their best interest to resign
• 22:32
Speaker 4: at that point. And but I held a meeting anyway,
• 22:37
Speaker 4: just myself and I tried to address the community about
• 22:41
Speaker 4: what was going on to the best of my knowledge,
• 22:43
Speaker 4: tried to make, you know, reassure them that we're going
• 22:46
Speaker 4: to continue operations. And so hopefully it seems like the
• 22:50
Speaker 4: community is rallying around the fire department. I've had a
• 22:55
Speaker 4: lot of support offered to me from State Fire Marshal,
• 22:58
Speaker 4: from County Commission, from CW's Sigmuannu with the Emergency Management
• 23:02
Speaker 4: SYSMIR and Kanwall County. So everybody's been very supportive of me,
• 23:07
Speaker 4: and uh, we're just we're just going to kind of
• 23:09
Speaker 4: drive through and do the things that we can do
• 23:11
Speaker 4: and what's important with the with the fire department. We
• 23:14
Speaker 4: were able to. You know, I met with the group
• 23:17
Speaker 4: that had previously resigned. Uh, they've agreed to come back,
• 23:21
Speaker 4: and they they came back, and in fact, that night
• 23:24
Speaker 4: of that meeting, they agreed to come back, and we
• 23:29
Speaker 4: got them their equipment and they actually went out that
• 23:31
Speaker 4: night and stopped a fire, uh from from getting out
• 23:36
Speaker 4: of hand there in cross Lane. So so they've done
• 23:39
Speaker 4: The firefighters have done a fabulous job, you know, as
• 23:43
Speaker 4: they do. You know, these guys are volunteers who put
• 23:46
Speaker 4: theirselves in that situation voluntarily with no pay and and
• 23:50
Speaker 4: you know, so I think we uh, I want to
• 23:52
Speaker 4: applaud that effort as well. But we're moving forward the
• 23:55
Speaker 4: communities behind us. We we issued what it's called, you know,
• 24:00
Speaker 4: these fire dues letters. For some reason, those didn't get
• 24:05
Speaker 4: out previously, but I was able to get those to
• 24:08
Speaker 4: the printers. They're meled out and the community should be
• 24:11
Speaker 4: receiving those. And that's one way that the community can
• 24:13
Speaker 4: really help the fire departments provide that operational funding needed
• 24:18
Speaker 4: to run the organization. I think what I'm finding out
• 24:21
Speaker 4: is many many believe that or think that the fire
• 24:23
Speaker 4: department is some governmental organization, and that's not true. The
• 24:28
Speaker 4: Volunteer Fire Department is a five O one C three.
• 24:31
Speaker 4: It's a nonprofit organization, if you will, that exists through
• 24:38
Speaker 4: the support of the community. So those letters are going
• 24:41
Speaker 4: out and in that letter it also lets them know
• 24:43
Speaker 4: that we are having a meeting on September the nineteenth,
• 24:46
Speaker 4: where we will we will elect a full and complete
• 24:49
Speaker 4: board at that time and we'll move forward with operations.
• 24:52
Speaker 4: And I think, well, I think we'll be in good shape.
• 24:55
Speaker 3: At that point. Do you is it your wish that
• 24:57
Speaker 3: you would stay on the board or are you have
• 25:00
Speaker 3: you had enough of being the only board member of
• 25:02
Speaker 3: what or if you have thought that far at advance?
• 25:05
Speaker 4: Well, so, honestly, at this point, we have a number
• 25:08
Speaker 4: of community members who have expressed interest in being on
• 25:11
Speaker 4: the board. In there, I certainly will will help and
• 25:15
Speaker 4: stay as an advisory but at this point, assuming that
• 25:18
Speaker 4: there's enough community interest in being on the board, I
• 25:21
Speaker 4: will step down for a couple of reasons. But it's
• 25:25
Speaker 4: it's not that this is, you know, overly challenging, because
• 25:29
Speaker 4: that's what I signed up for, right But I'm actually
• 25:33
Speaker 4: doing some some research that being on the board puts
• 25:37
Speaker 4: me in a conflict, ok position, Well, I.
• 25:40
Speaker 3: Mean it's good. It's good that you realize that talk
• 25:42
Speaker 3: about the other fire departments in the area, because somebody,
• 25:45
Speaker 3: like you said, you know, a fire occurs tragically, it's
• 25:48
Speaker 3: got to be somebody's going to command. What has been
• 25:50
Speaker 3: what's the relationship like with your fire department with the
• 25:52
Speaker 3: others in the area, and how important have they been
• 25:54
  Speaker 3: in all this?
• 25:55
Speaker 4: Sure, and they have been a great assistance to us.
• 25:57
Speaker 4: There's always been and always existed these mutual aid agreements
• 26:02
Speaker 4: between neighboring communities to kind of step in and help out.
• 26:06
Speaker 4: And you know, Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department has done that.
• 26:10
Speaker 4: We've we've shown up at at fires in Nitro or
• 26:13
Speaker 4: fires in Institute, or fires in Dumbbar or fires you know,
• 26:16
Speaker 4: things happen on the interstate. We we've shown up to
• 26:19
Speaker 4: those as well to support them. But they have really
• 26:22
Speaker 4: they were very gracious, of course, and really stepped up
• 26:26
Speaker 4: and came into Cross Leans community in a time when
• 26:28
Speaker 4: we needed them. So I certainly appreciate their, uh, their
• 26:32
Speaker 4: willingness to do that. So the relationship is there, it exists,
• 26:35
Speaker 4: and I've been reaching out to them as well to
• 26:38
Speaker 4: try to engage and and make sure that you know,
• 26:41
Speaker 4: we're all working together and uh for the for the
• 26:44
Speaker 4: better of the of the community and the whole.
• 26:46
Speaker 3: And that relationship with the County Commission in Connaught County,
• 26:48
Speaker 3: I know that. I think I've read that Commissioner Commission
• 26:51
Speaker 3: President Wheeler had been very complementary of of your service there.
• 26:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, the County Commission has been has been great in
• 26:58
Speaker 4: offering their their their assistance and some things. And CW.
• 27:04
Speaker 4: Sigmuent in particular, who's uh, who's who's great uh at
• 27:08
Speaker 4: at what he does and he's came in and provided
• 27:11
Speaker 4: some some advice and provided some some some help in
• 27:17
Speaker 4: in kind of pulling it and keeping it all together.
• 27:19
Speaker 3: We had a text here that was waiting on you
• 27:21
Speaker 3: when you got here. It says, question for the Tyler
• 27:23
Speaker 3: v FD, if time allows, what is the current I
• 27:26
Speaker 3: s O rating? And do you foresee any change to that?
• 27:30
Speaker 4: So I don't have that written down. I did look
• 27:33
Speaker 4: that up, by the way, the the actual I s
• 27:37
Speaker 4: O rating And I don't want to misspeak and give
• 27:40
Speaker 4: an improper number, but it's actually pretty good. And I
• 27:44
Speaker 4: my understanding is based on the assessment of how that
• 27:47
Speaker 4: process works. That you know, we were able to recover
• 27:51
Speaker 4: very quickly. We did lose, you know, a number of firefighters,
• 27:55
Speaker 4: and in fact, you know, I think the number was
• 27:58
Speaker 4: reported at ten, but in reality, like one never resigned
• 28:03
Speaker 4: and most of them have came back and we've been
• 28:06
Speaker 4: able to increase our numbers from that anyway. So at
• 28:10
Speaker 4: this point I don't foresee any impact to the I
• 28:12
Speaker 4: s O number rating because we have we have certainly
• 28:16
Speaker 4: fully recovered and things are on a good path. I've
• 28:19
  Speaker 4: engaged with our c p A to do a financial
• 28:22
Speaker 4: review of the organization to provide for that next board
• 28:25
Speaker 4: that comes on. So there's confidence with them, and there's
• 28:28
Speaker 4: confidence within, you know, within the community that that we're
• 28:31
Speaker 4: in good standing. We've invited the working with the State
• 28:34
Speaker 4: Auditors Office to come in and and do their their
• 28:38
Speaker 4: piece of it as well, because we want to make
• 28:40
Speaker 4: sure that everybody has the confidence in what's going on
• 28:43
Speaker 4: at the fire department and and continue to support the
• 28:47
Speaker 4: fire department there and the firefighters that do that such
• 28:49
  Speaker 4: a great job.
• 28:50
Speaker 3: Before we let you go, Barry, what is your final
• 28:53
Speaker 3: message about all this? If you want to give a
• 28:55
Speaker 3: message to the residents or served by the Tawler Mountain
• 28:57
Speaker 3: Fire Department, would you say to them.
• 29:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, So I think, you know, the Cross Lanes community
• 29:03
Speaker 4: has I've been there thirty years, and you know, just
• 29:07
Speaker 4: like everything else, things change and things move. But that
• 29:11
Speaker 4: fire department has been there for I think since nineteen
• 29:15
Speaker 4: fifty one is the date. So that fire department has
• 29:19
Speaker 4: been a rock in that community. Those guys come to
• 29:24
Speaker 4: your home and when you need them most, without question,
• 29:29
Speaker 4: and they do it on a voluntary service. So I
• 29:31
Speaker 4: think I want to make sure that the Cross Lanes
• 29:33
Speaker 4: community understands that things are going well. You know, they're
• 29:37
Speaker 4: not certainly not ideal, but we are back, we are
• 29:40
Speaker 4: back on track. The firefighters are answering calls, they're coming
• 29:44
Speaker 4: out to you know, into your neighborhood when they need it.
• 29:46
Speaker 4: And I just, you know, certainly hope that they support
• 29:49
Speaker 4: the fire department, either through commitment of coming out and
• 29:52
Speaker 4: helping for fundraising, showing up at board meetings so that
• 29:56
Speaker 4: they are informed about what's going on, and demanding that
• 29:59
Speaker 4: the you know, answer to that. That's what they do.
• 30:02
Speaker 4: It's what boards do and or or you know, help
• 30:06
Speaker 4: out financially as well.
• 30:07
Speaker 3: All right, And the board meetings, as you said, Barry,
• 30:10
Speaker 3: are open to the public.
• 30:11
Speaker 4: That's correct, And the next board meeting is this Thursday
• 30:15
Speaker 4: at seven pm at the community building next to the
• 30:18
Speaker 4: fire station, and that is in that meeting. Of course,
• 30:21
Speaker 4: without a full compliment aboard, I can't do a whole lot.
• 30:24
Speaker 4: But what I can do and by bylaws, is accept
• 30:27
Speaker 4: nominations for board. And we've already had, like I say,
• 30:31
Speaker 4: we've had a few that are that have expressed that interest.
• 30:34
Speaker 4: But we'll be accepting additional nominations there and then in
• 30:36
Speaker 4: September we'll have additional nominations in an election at the
• 30:41
Speaker 4: very beginning of the September board meeting.
• 30:43
Speaker 3: All right, board Member Barry Hole state, what'd you call yourself?
• 30:47
Speaker 3: Minus minus one minus one state? I appreciate you being
• 30:51
Speaker 3: and I think very you are to be applauded for
• 30:53
Speaker 3: stepping up into this too. I know that's not why
• 30:55
Speaker 3: you're doing it, but still, I mean I as an
• 30:57
Speaker 3: outsider looking in, I mean, somebody's got to be able to,
• 31:00
Speaker 3: you know, kind of take the bull by the horns
• 31:01
Speaker 3: trying to get some things straightened out there. So I
• 31:03
Speaker 3: think I think you're owed some gratitude for that as well.
• 31:06
Speaker 4: Well, thank you, And I do want to be clear,
• 31:08
Speaker 4: you know, I know there was a lot of and
• 31:10
Speaker 4: I mentioned a lot of allegations there were going back
• 31:12
  Speaker 4: and forth. There's I haven't I haven't came across something
• 31:15
Speaker 4: that was, you know, some smoking gun of miss misappropriation
• 31:19
Speaker 4: or miss alga. So I want to be very clear
• 31:21
Speaker 4: in that things look great and we're going to provide
• 31:23

• 35:13
Speaker 3: the Annual Backpack Attack seventeenth annual sponsored by Selango Law.
• 35:18
Speaker 3: It is one of the biggest events in West Virginia,
• 35:20
Speaker 3: and it's happened a little later on this month the
• 35:22
Speaker 3: Annual Italian Festival West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival in Clarksburg.
• 35:26
Speaker 3: Laney Wells is with the festivals. He joined us now
• 35:29
Speaker 3: in the par of Marstore's studio one day, one day
• 35:31
Speaker 3: away from getting wisdom teeth removed. I understand, is that correct?
• 35:34
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 35:35
Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate what to blame your mother forgiving me
• 35:39
Speaker 3: that information, and thanks for being a trooper here this morning.
• 35:42
Speaker 3: Although I think it might have been better if we'd
• 35:44
Speaker 3: have had you on tomorrow while under the influence of painkillers.
• 35:46
Speaker 3: That may have made a better for a better interview. Uh,
• 35:50
Speaker 3: tell us what goes on at this festival? Tell us?
• 35:51
  Speaker 3: About it.
• 35:53
Speaker 15: I mean, it's just all things Italian that you can
• 35:55
Speaker 15: think of. There's Italian songs on stage, eating, you know, pizza, pastas,
• 36:00
Speaker 15: stay hogis, dancing with children, all Italian colors.
• 36:04
  Speaker 6: All the time.
• 36:05
Speaker 3: Now, how did you get involved in this?
• 36:07
Speaker 15: Well, my mom is Italian and she's from up there
• 36:12
Speaker 15: and it's been going on. She went to the very
• 36:14
Speaker 15: first festival in nineteen seventy nine and I have gone
• 36:18
Speaker 15: since I was six months old, and so I've gone
• 36:20
Speaker 15: to every single festival and always wanted to be the queen,
• 36:23
Speaker 15: but never thought that it's something that I could do.
• 36:26
Speaker 3: So that's what you're going for now, to be the
• 36:27
Speaker 3: Queen of the Italian Fatal currently.
• 36:30
Speaker 6: And so this Labor Day, I'm going to crown the
• 36:33
  Speaker 6: next queen.
• 36:33
Speaker 3: Okay, So so you've had a year or so is
• 36:36
Speaker 3: the reigning queens at the point work?
• 36:37
  Speaker 6: Yes?
• 36:37
Speaker 3: What exactly are the duties of the Queen of the
• 36:39
  Speaker 3: Italian Festival.
• 36:40
Speaker 6: Well, I've traveled around the state doing different praise.
• 36:42
Speaker 15: I've gone to the Forest Festival parade, I was in
• 36:45
Speaker 15: the w Homecoming parade, and I just did the Festival
• 36:47
Speaker 15: Parade in Charleston this past summer, and just going out
• 36:51
Speaker 15: around the state and telling people about the Italian Festival,
• 36:54
Speaker 15: wanting them to come see it, even meeting Italian people
• 36:56
Speaker 15: who may not know about it to come up and
• 36:58
Speaker 15: go to the festivals.
• 37:00
Speaker 3: It's a pretty big deal. I've actually been up there
• 37:02
Speaker 3: for it. It's actually a pretty big deal. You mentioned,
• 37:05
Speaker 3: of course, the food, and by the way, thank you
• 37:07
Speaker 3: for the cookies. I get some Italian Ryan. We have
• 37:09
Speaker 3: cookies here courtesy of Delaney Italian Italian Cookies. People automatically
• 37:15
Speaker 3: think of the food, Delaney, but there is a lot
• 37:17
Speaker 3: more to it than just the food.
• 37:19
Speaker 6: Talk about that sometimes. It's even family reunions with people.
• 37:23
Speaker 15: They plan their family reunions around the Italian Festival so
• 37:26
Speaker 15: they can come back together. It's meeting new friends, it's
• 37:29
  Speaker 15: making more connections.
• 37:31
  Speaker 6: It's just taking.
• 37:32
Speaker 15: Pride in our heritage and our history because some of
• 37:36
Speaker 15: our Italian ancestors had a hard time when they first
• 37:38
Speaker 15: came to America, when they first came to us Virginia,
• 37:40
Speaker 15: and it's just a way to honor that and what
• 37:42
Speaker 15: all we've been through to get to where we are today.
• 37:45
Speaker 15: And just also for the younger generations. My favorite thing
• 37:48
Speaker 15: about being the queen was dancing with the children and
• 37:51
Speaker 15: meeting the children, and you know, having being someone that
• 37:54
Speaker 15: they can look up to, and I think that's the
• 37:56
Speaker 15: most important part of the festival.
• 37:57
Speaker 3: And I think it's very important that you meant that
• 38:00
Speaker 3: getting young people educated as to what this whole thing is,
• 38:04
Speaker 3: because sometimes these things, no matter whether it's Italian festival
• 38:07
Speaker 3: or whatever, it can mean a whole lot more to
• 38:08
Speaker 3: the older folks than what it does to younger people.
• 38:11
Speaker 3: Getting the next general because somebody's got to carry it
• 38:13
Speaker 3: on and it takes a lot to pull off this thing.
• 38:15
Speaker 3: And the dates again are.
• 38:17
Speaker 15: August thirtieth, thirty first, and September first.
• 38:20
Speaker 3: And I mentioned that one of the reason I'm having
• 38:22
Speaker 3: you on today is because a lot of people from
• 38:25
Speaker 3: around the state of West Virginia go to this. A
• 38:26
Speaker 3: lot of people from Charleston make the trip the two hours,
• 38:29
Speaker 3: so whatever it is trip up there, it's really a
• 38:32
Speaker 3: big deal for people here in Charleston to make that
• 38:34
Speaker 3: trip up to Clarksburg.
• 38:35
Speaker 15: Oh yeah, definitely. So yeah, it's a big deal that
• 38:38
Speaker 15: they go up. And I mean it's just I've loved
• 38:41
Speaker 15: having There was somebody in the festival pray that came
• 38:44
Speaker 15: that said, oh, I'm Italian and I'm around Clarksburg and
• 38:47
Speaker 15: it's really nice to see it represented down here because
• 38:49
Speaker 15: some people, you know, don't know about it or don't
• 38:52
Speaker 15: make that trip because it is such a big deal.
• 38:54
Speaker 15: So it's great that they can make it.
• 38:57
Speaker 3: Now, talk about you personally. What do you do in life?
• 39:01
Speaker 3: College student? Is that right?
• 39:02
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 39:02
Speaker 15: I'm going into my senior year at the University of
• 39:05
Speaker 15: Kentucky studying broadcast journalism.
• 39:07
Speaker 3: You want a job, yes, well, because we actually have
• 39:11
Speaker 3: we have an opening here now, but in the news department.
• 39:15
Speaker 3: But I'll tell you what once you've run into your
• 39:17
Speaker 3: senior year. Now, is there a particular focus of broadcasting
• 39:20
  Speaker 3: you're going into?
• 39:21
Speaker 6: Just radio and TV?
• 39:23
Speaker 3: Okay, I'm glad to hear the radio part because we
• 39:25
Speaker 3: don't hear a lot of that these days. What's the
• 39:27
Speaker 3: broadcasting program like at the University of Kentucky. Yeah, here,
• 39:30
  Speaker 3: it's pretty good.
• 39:30
Speaker 6: It is pretty good.
• 39:32
Speaker 15: They actually are just building a new little like news
• 39:34
Speaker 15: station at the bottom of Reperena for us to go to,
• 39:37
Speaker 15: because now it's just like in a little basement in
• 39:39
Speaker 15: one of the education buildings. But they're building a whole new,
• 39:42
Speaker 15: big studio in Rapperina.
• 39:46
Speaker 6: They have a class.
• 39:47
Speaker 15: I think it's like advanced TV news reporting, where we
• 39:49
Speaker 15: put on our newscast where some people are producers, anchors,
• 39:53
Speaker 15: reporters sports. We have a newspaper, The Kentucky Colonel, and
• 39:58
Speaker 15: it's now gone to more multi media. There is a broadcasting,
• 40:01
Speaker 15: a podcast with the magazine and newspaper too.
• 40:05
Speaker 3: I mean, the thing that has changed so much in
• 40:08
Speaker 3: the world, and I've been doing this for thirty six years,
• 40:10
Speaker 3: is people will make comments about radio, telephone. Nobody watches television, no,
• 40:14
Speaker 3: but listen to the radio. No, That's that's entirely not true.
• 40:18
Speaker 3: The difference is is the way that people receive the
• 40:20
Speaker 3: information now. I mean, I have seventy percent of our
• 40:23
Speaker 3: listeners to this show are listening other in someplace other
• 40:27
Speaker 3: than radio. They're listening on their phone, they're listening on
• 40:29
Speaker 3: their iPad, they're listening, you know, from the websites or
• 40:31
Speaker 3: or one of the various apps or whatever. So it's
• 40:33
Speaker 3: still it's still a viable media. There is, just the
• 40:36
Speaker 3: ways of consuming said information just a little bit different
• 40:38
  Speaker 3: these days.
• 40:39
Speaker 15: Oh yeah, and they take that into account, like they
• 40:42
Speaker 15: have like TikTok for The Kentucky Colonel, and like everyone
• 40:45
Speaker 15: knows the Kentucky colonel kid who does the tiktoks.
• 40:48
  Speaker 6: For the school.
• 40:49
Speaker 15: So yeah, I love how they've adapted to more of
• 40:52
Speaker 15: like the social media way to get news, or like
• 40:55
Speaker 15: you're on your phone and on your iPad and things
• 40:57
  Speaker 15: like that.
• 40:57
Speaker 3: And I will mention in full disclosure that you come
• 41:00
Speaker 3: from a line of broadcasters. You know, your your mother
• 41:03
Speaker 3: is Natalie Tennant, former Secretary of State, current canafor County Commission,
• 41:06
Speaker 3: knows a little something about news as well as well
• 41:08
Speaker 3: as your dad, so you come by it naturally. So
• 41:11
Speaker 3: I'm serious. We'll give you an application, we'll hire you
• 41:12
Speaker 3: by the end of the day probably hear.
• 41:14
Speaker 5: Oh, perfect, thank you, and then you won't.
• 41:15
Speaker 3: Be able to make the Italian Festival. Sorry. Give us
• 41:18
Speaker 3: the details again on the Italian Festival and where can
• 41:20
Speaker 3: people learn more? Got website social media?
• 41:22
Speaker 15: Yes, it's at the Italian Festival website which is wv
• 41:26
Speaker 15: HIF dot com. And it's Labor Day weekend, So August thirtieth,
• 41:31

• 41:33

• 41:36
Speaker 3: is coming to an end. So what advice would you
• 41:38
Speaker 3: give to the next queen other than be ready to
• 41:41
Speaker 3: travel because you travel a lot.
• 41:43
Speaker 15: Yeah, honestly just to have fun, just to you know,

Speaker 3: and of course we've had our own issues in Charleston
• 45:34
Speaker 3: with this, as have various places around the state. Well,
• 45:38
Speaker 3: it's uh, it's pretty intense. In Morgantown. Hobbies talked about
• 45:41
Speaker 3: it a lot, and my my buddy Northern Dave Wilson
• 45:45
Speaker 3: has been covering it. He's the host of this similar

• 46:36
Speaker 3: announced on the department's Facebook page that he would indeed
• 46:39
Speaker 3: be stepping down. It is not believed that his resignation
• 46:44
Speaker 3: has anything to do with several lawsuits and some controversy
• 46:47
Speaker 3: that has surrounded the department for some time, allegations of
• 46:50
Speaker 3: police brutality and things of that nature. Not believe that
• 46:52
Speaker 3: it's related to that, but he did announce on the
• 46:54
Speaker 3: Facebook page the Dunbar Police Department that he would be
• 46:58

• 47:24
Speaker 3: to mention this. I was watching over the weekend the
• 47:27
Speaker 3: coverage of various things related to the presidential race. As
• 47:31
Speaker 3: you may imagine, it dominated the news and it's going
• 47:35
Speaker 3: to sorry, but it's going to for some some time.
• 47:39
Speaker 3: I saw jd Vance's interview with Jonathan Carl yesterday morning
• 47:43
Speaker 3: on ABC News Televisions This Week program I will say this,
• 47:48
Speaker 3: it was not as contentious as some of the Stephanopoulos
• 47:52
Speaker 3: interviews can be, but respectful, but very very touchy. It
• 47:58
Speaker 3: seemed to be the best way to describe that interview
• 48:01
Speaker 3: between the JD. Vans and Jonathan carl and ABC Television yesterday.
• 48:06
Speaker 3: And I'm gonna go ahead and make a statement now.
• 48:09
Speaker 3: And I know that when I make this statement, some
• 48:11
Speaker 3: of you are not going to like this, but I
• 48:13
Speaker 3: want you to hear me out on this. Okay, When
• 48:16
Speaker 3: Vice President Kamala Harris, the current Vice president and Democratic
• 48:23
Speaker 3: nominee for president, Kamala Harris, when she debates former President Trump,
• 48:29
Speaker 3: hear me out, I think she's going to embarrass him. Now,
• 48:33
Speaker 3: that's not me endorsing Harris by any stretch of the imagination.
• 48:37
Speaker 3: So just calm down with that. You know where I
• 48:38
Speaker 3: stand on the race for president. I'm saying just based
• 48:42
Speaker 3: on her ability as a speaker, she's gonna own Donald Trump.
• 48:49
Speaker 3: Let's go back to the debate between Trump and President Biden.
• 48:55
Speaker 3: That was the beginning of the end for the Biden
• 49:00
Speaker 3: reelection campaign. I mean, facing Biden looked old, he looked feeble,
• 49:07
Speaker 3: he looked confused, and it was his undoing. And in
• 49:12
Speaker 3: that debate, if you recall, Trump didn't do a heck
• 49:16
Speaker 3: of a lot. He pretty much let Biden's performance speak
• 49:20
Speaker 3: for itself. And the next morning, as I talked about it,
• 49:25
Speaker 3: and others did, Hoppy and every other news organization in
• 49:28
Speaker 3: the free world talked about it, nobody was talking about
• 49:31
Speaker 3: the number of lies that Donald Trump told, and there
• 49:35
Speaker 3: were a lot. The takeaway was from that debate at
• 49:39
Speaker 3: that time, a couple of months ago, is that Joe
• 49:41
Speaker 3: Biden is old and totally out of touch, which he
• 49:46
Speaker 3: is and was. And getting back to Kamala Harris, she
• 49:53
Speaker 3: is a former prosecutor and is a natural public speaker.
• 50:00
Speaker 3: And I'm saying what I'm saying based on style and
• 50:03
Speaker 3: performance of the debate, not the content, because let's face it,
• 50:08
Speaker 3: in a lot of these situations, it's not about content, Okay,
• 50:13
Speaker 3: It's about presentation. And that was the undoing. That was
• 50:18
Speaker 3: the beginning of the undoing, although it had been talked
• 50:20
Speaker 3: about for a while. That was the undoing of Joe Biden.
• 50:25
Speaker 3: Was his poor was per his poor performance there in
• 50:31
Speaker 3: the debate. So I think She's going to do pretty well.
• 50:39
Speaker 3: Trump is. I don't think Trump's gonna know what hitt him.
• 50:43
Speaker 3: Of course it won't matter because where we are now,
• 50:46
Speaker 3: no matter what side you're on, your chosen candidate's going
• 50:48
Speaker 3: to be the winner, no matter what. That's where we are.
• 50:51
Speaker 3: And speaking of which, with the with the fiftieth anniversary
• 50:55
Speaker 3: of Watergate going on, may have heard Danny Jones with
• 50:58
Speaker 3: hoy On Hoppy talking about it last week. I was
• 51:01
Speaker 3: watching some coverage of the anniversary of Watergate and it
• 51:04
Speaker 3: occurred to me and others commented the same way. Can
• 51:07
Speaker 3: you imagine if Watergate were to happen today, or if
• 51:11
Speaker 3: we had the same media coverage and outlets in nineteen
• 51:13
Speaker 3: seventy four that we have now, Nixon would have never
• 51:18
Speaker 3: resigned back in those days. As someone pointed out, back
• 51:24
Speaker 3: in those days, at least the national news came from
• 51:25
Speaker 3: a couple of different sources, the three networks, The New
• 51:29
Speaker 3: York Times, Washington Posts, maybe a couple more. That's pretty
• 51:32
Speaker 3: much it. Everyone in the public was consuming the same
• 51:36
Speaker 3: news from the same outlets, and it's not so much
• 51:40
Speaker 3: these days. People go out and they find the news
• 51:43
Speaker 3: that best suits their political ideology. If Fox News were
• 51:47
Speaker 3: a thing back then, or if Watergate would have happened,
• 51:51
Speaker 3: the day, they'd have said Nixon did nothing wrong, and
• 51:54
Speaker 3: MSNBC would have said Nixon was guilty. If every crime
• 51:57
Speaker 3: ever committed in the twentieth century and the effort to
• 52:02
Speaker 3: get Nixon to resign then was bipartisan, do you think
• 52:07
Speaker 3: that would happen today? Not a chance. The Republicans would
• 52:10
Speaker 3: have dug in their heels protect him, just like they
• 52:12
Speaker 3: did with Trump. And if Nixon were a Democrat, the
• 52:14
Speaker 3: Democratic Party would have done the same thing. So kind
• 52:16
Speaker 3: of sad what our society has has become. All right,
• 52:19
Speaker 3: The Dave Island showing five Dlie brought to you in
• 52:21

• 52:26
Speaker 3: If only Kamala could quit laughing in other Texas. Really,
• 52:29
Speaker 3: all she says is I imagine what could be unburdened by
• 52:32
Speaker 3: what has been, says text. All right, gotta go, Hopy,
• 52:35
Speaker 3: coming up with talk line at ten o six. I'll
