Latest / What's Your (Least) Favorite Scary Movie? / #30: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) [BONUS]
Transcript
- 0:00Hey everybody is so we had initially been planning to do
- 0:04our Nightmare on Elm Street. Series on our patreon to help us
- 0:09lead up to the eventual Freddy Krueger Jason, Voorhees
- 0:14Showdown. Later this year in Freddy vs.
- 0:18Jason and our schedule bot kind of screwed up.
- 0:21That was a combination of just things.
- 0:25You know how life happens and we were trying to figure out out
- 0:30ways that we could handle that. And what we ultimately decided
- 0:34is that because we need to Crunch and we need to release
- 0:37several a month, two to three a month until we meet up with
- 0:43Jason and we're not going to have time to do that and our
- 0:47regular feed. If we edit an illustrate things,
- 0:51the way we normally do. So what we're going to do
- 0:53because we don't want to have people pay for something that
- 0:56isn't our best work, we're just going to release everything as
- 0:59bonus episodes. On our main feed and they're
- 1:03probably not going to be our best edited episodes.
- 1:08Matter of point, where they're not really going to be edited at
- 1:10all, we'll do our sound editing and a tad.
- 1:13A tad like, well, do the sound editing and we'll put in our
- 1:17music and stuff, but we're probably not going to go through
- 1:19and remove all the little pauses and asides and stuff like that.
- 1:22Like we do with our main episodes.
- 1:23It's just bonus. Shit, it's just bonus shit.
- 1:25Yeah, and Travis isn't going to take the time to illustrate
- 1:29every single. Episode because those take
- 1:31several hours a piece to and because we don't want to ask
- 1:35people to pay for something that we're not giving.
- 1:39Monetary worth towards some make sense.
- 1:42Yeah we're not going to be giving we don't want to ask you
- 1:45a little taste for something that we're not going to have
- 1:47time to put our full effort towards.
- 1:49Yeah. So when we're also putting our
- 1:51full effort towards our, our main feed, which is, you know,
- 1:54not behind a pay wall. Yeah.
- 1:56And so, what we're going to do is we're just going to release
- 1:58things as bonus episodes at various Sundays throughout the
- 2:02next few months. And this is our first one which
- 2:05we did record initially for our patreon.
- 2:07So it is Illustrated and edited Dad.
- 2:09So you can enjoy this one and just know that going forward.
- 2:12They're not going to be Third, there's still going to be
- 2:16quality but we're just not going to be removing all of the, um,
- 2:19Zan's, a stuff like that. And it's just have a little bit
- 2:25more fun with the, with the cover art, for those episodes to
- 2:28are you doing drugs for that? I'm not doing drawings.
- 2:31I've got something else in mind. Okay well yeah.
- 2:34So where are you two and a half minutes into?
- 2:35Yeah, so it's just this is it. That's what's happening.
- 2:38Enjoy No. What's your least favorite scary
- 2:48movie? Welcome to.
- 2:58What's your least favorite scary movie?
- 3:00The podcast, are we talk about our least favorite aspects and
- 3:03most debatable opinions of our most favorite scary movies.
- 3:06We fight over favorites. My name is Jessie and my name is
- 3:09Travis and today, we are starting a new franchise as
- 3:14promised. We are getting Nightmare on Elm
- 3:17Street kicked off, so that way we can eventually get it to line
- 3:20up with Friday the 13th. Freddy and Jason have their
- 3:24Ultimate Showdown. So that's what we're going to be
- 3:27doing. If you are listening to this,
- 3:30you are hopefully listening on our patreon for the low low one
- 3:34money per month, when one single money per month.
- 3:37Whoa, get you access to this episode.
- 3:41We will be adding more tears as we have more content available.
- 3:45We've got to get a little bit ahead on our recording.
- 3:47Schedule to do that. It's also possible that you're
- 3:50listening to the first little bit of this.
- 3:52On our regular regular channels. That way we can we can entice.
- 3:55Yeah, yeah. Pull you in seduced, you do with
- 3:58our words and such so good. So good.
- 4:02But before we get down to the brass tacks, that are Freddy's
- 4:08knife fingers. I wanted to do something a
- 4:11little different today. Travis, I found as we were
- 4:15unpacking, how many episodes in a row is this, that we've talked
- 4:17about moving? It's been like, every one of
- 4:21them for Most of them. Yeah.
- 4:23Like since February yeah it's been a couple months straight
- 4:26anyway as we're unpacking from our move into our house, that I
- 4:30had all the buzzards, I found a book, I'd long forgotten and it
- 4:35is by dr. Jennifer Parker.
- 4:38It is a guide to interpreting Dreams and Nightmares.
- 4:41And since we are talking the ultimate nightmares, I wanted to
- 4:45go ahead and look at our own Dreams and Nightmares.
- 4:49So I thought I would be fun. Yeah, Travis I want to kick us
- 4:52off. What what's it, what's a dream
- 4:55or nightmare? You've had recently.
- 4:56You've got us a dream or nightmare because this book has
- 4:58two different sides. Oh yeah, yeah, Dreams and
- 5:03Nightmares. The nightmare eyes are so
- 5:05scared. We'll try to remember to post a
- 5:08picture of that turns to Camp. It was a dream, it wasn't a
- 5:14nightmare. When was it?
- 5:17I think like three days ago is the most recent memory of a
- 5:21dream. I've had okay and I can't really
- 5:25remember the specifics of the dream itself.
- 5:27I'd just remember this one aspect of it, and it's really
- 5:32weird, but it was do I go and say, actually what there's a
- 5:38section that's what men and women recall, let's see if we're
- 5:42any different. So factors associated with
- 5:47recall frequency since you're struggling to recall.
- 5:51Yours. Some of them I can remember
- 5:52really well. But this is like the only thing
- 5:54that I remember from this one. So men tend to have better
- 5:59dream. Recall greater greater dream
- 6:02recall due to interpersonal factors such as job-related
- 6:06stress consumption of alcohol, which can increase dream recall
- 6:12in the second half of the night. Waking repeatedly during the
- 6:15night. Okay, they trying to say all
- 6:17this stuff is unique to men because of this thing or just I
- 6:20am trying to read the page sir, okay.
- 6:23I'm just curious. Over tiredness, a natural
- 6:27wakings and sleeping in a strange bed, can you reduce your
- 6:30dream recall intrapersonal factors that can affect dream?
- 6:33Recall are just simply being susceptible to stress and
- 6:38physical illness and facing major.
- 6:41Life changes are significant challenges and having thin
- 6:45boundaries, such as being able to shut out the world life
- 6:47offense and their effects. All of those increase recall for
- 6:49men, typically cool, for women, interpersonal factors.
- 6:55Such as divorce or the end of a significant relation can
- 6:58influence recall women who adapt well to these changes dream,
- 7:01more frequently, those who adopt less.
- 7:03Well, don't dream as much family issues can increase the rate of
- 7:06dream recall. Wow, no wonder, I remember every
- 7:09single Dream from my childhood, we're working mother's dream was
- 7:16probably due to tiredness intrapersonal factors that
- 7:19affect women's. Recall frequency your period can
- 7:23increase the recall of a Aggressive dreams women, who
- 7:27register high scores of intuitive introversion,
- 7:30conscientiousness and creativity recall.
- 7:32A lot of Dreams. Ha ha, having thin boundaries
- 7:35increases recall. Being creative increases recall
- 7:38and Phaedra facing major life changes or challenges increases
- 7:40dream recall. So I think major life changes
- 7:45and stress applied to both of us.
- 7:48Yeah. Alright.
- 7:50Now that we've got some of that background info going forward
- 7:53for the rest of our episodes. I'm not going to Do that for
- 7:55every single night. Marry episode just going to do
- 7:58interpretations from now on can we?
- 7:59Yeah can we like each episode interpret?
- 8:02Our most recent dream. Oh yeah.
- 8:03Okay cool. I like that but I'm not I'm not
- 8:05going to explain the differences between men and women every
- 8:07single time. Okay.
- 8:08Yeah. I think that's good idea.
- 8:11All right so what was your most recent dream?
- 8:13Tell me about it. So the only thing I remember is
- 8:19it's basically have Halloween movie.
- 8:23And it's a shot of Ori driving, so you get ahead on, shut it up.
- 8:31And then from the back seat, Michael Myers appears, but he's
- 8:37played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and he has a giant head, it
- 8:43could be influence from the drawing, but you did really
- 8:47listening. Yeah.
- 8:48And I don't know why I was dreaming of Arnold
- 8:50Schwarzenegger being Michael. Myers.
- 8:53But that's what it was. It was a scene of how we and
- 8:56where he appears from the back seat of the car.
- 8:58Why while for is driving, that's all I remember of it and that's
- 9:03unfortunate because it sounds like you had a lot of Promise.
- 9:06All right, so Lori could be interpreted as a heroine symbol
- 9:11in the dream. The inclusion of this symbol in
- 9:14a dream is very powerful and suggest that the true self is
- 9:17making an appearance. Whoo, often the hero will have
- 9:20to travel to the underworld where thee The unconscious to
- 9:23take on Fierce creatures and overcome trials.
- 9:26The journey can be seen as an initiation, the dreamer must
- 9:29undergo before accepting his or her true position in life.
- 9:32Oh shit. You're gonna have to battle
- 9:35either a stranger or your brother depending on what
- 9:38timeline were in to become your true self.
- 9:42I have a brother. Okay, so we're not in that
- 9:45timeline then. No.
- 9:46So I have a question for you, okay?
- 9:51Arnold Schwarzenegger. As Michael Myers?
- 9:54Yeah, I was a young Arnold or old Arnold Governor are How
- 9:59would you describe his body and the governor era?
- 10:03I mean, he's always rip, okay? He's always a body builder.
- 10:06Okay? So the the Animus is the male
- 10:10equivalent to the anima, the masculine aspect of the psyche.
- 10:13This figure will appear in your dreams of the perfect meal.
- 10:16That's why I was asking what you thought it was funny.
- 10:18Okay. Being either to mail or two,
- 10:20females, not a good thing in Union terms because it means the
- 10:23personality is out of balance being approved.
- 10:25If a female patient reported a dream in which she had sex with
- 10:28a gorgeous unknown male. It doesn't really apply to you
- 10:30Freud believed that a strong male presence in a dream, showed
- 10:33unresolved issues with men in the dreamers life.
- 10:35So a man that you have unresolved issues with, so are
- 10:40you have to battle to become your true self?
- 10:42So, I've got a bone to pick with somebody out there and I'm also
- 10:47waiting my true self come out. Yep.
- 10:50I'm going to express my true self all over this poor son of a
- 10:53bitch. All right, so I don't remember a
- 10:57ton of details about my dream, but what I do remember is you me
- 11:02Scout and Talia we're all in bed?
- 11:03And so he was roaming around the house as she does, except she
- 11:07like could talk and was taking care of things.
- 11:09She was our caretaker once your voice sound like um, like very
- 11:13motherly and nurturing, honestly, I can't imagine that.
- 11:16I can only imagine her having a really high-pitched, No, that's
- 11:22not what she sounded like. She was like very nurturing.
- 11:25I don't have a good, I don't have a good voice equivalent.
- 11:28Yeah. So he in nurturing or not two
- 11:31words like mix. Well the cat is one of a series
- 11:35of animals including the wolf, the bat and the owl that are
- 11:37associated with powerful mystical.
- 11:39Female energy. Fuck yeah.
- 11:41They're known as familiars and are believed to possess magical
- 11:43powers or to enhance feminine powers of their owner.
- 11:47Fuck. Yeah.
- 11:48And you again psychology the That is the epitome of feminine
- 11:51magic. He'll to the yeah.
- 11:54Nice. It sounds like you had some good
- 11:56stuff going. Yeah.
- 11:58And it's I think that makes sense because we've been talking
- 12:00a lot about the supernatural stuff, this past week and I very
- 12:04much given my stance that I believe in things like that and
- 12:07I believe in the karmic energies of the universe.
- 12:10And that we're not the only beings in existence.
- 12:12So I think it makes sense. That I would have a dream that
- 12:15symbolizes that. Yeah.
- 12:17All right, that was fun. In other words, About good
- 12:20dreams. Let's talk about bad dreams.
- 12:21Yay, scary eyes. Scary eyes.
- 12:26So A Nightmare on Elm Street came out in 1984.
- 12:29It was written and directed by Wes, Craven music by, Charles by
- 12:34Bernstein. I can't read my handwriting,
- 12:38special effects makeup by David and Miller.
- 12:41Nancy was played by Heather langenkamp who beat out over 200
- 12:45actresses, including Courteney, Cox for the role.
- 12:48Hey, at least you got Her chance later with Wes Craven Fred was
- 12:51played by Robert. Englund.
- 12:53Glenn was paid by a very young. Johnny Depp, in his introductory
- 12:57roll. Part of the reason he got the
- 13:00role is because Cravens daughter found him dreamy.
- 13:03I'm sure a lot of people did and this is literally like I would
- 13:06not peg him as Johnny Depp. Just is even look like, I don't
- 13:09know. He doesn't look like him.
- 13:10It doesn't sound like end of an act like him makes you wonder if
- 13:13Ike his whole look and way, he talks is an act.
- 13:16That makes me think of the good place where It's like, yeah,
- 13:20it's like before. No Johnny Depp, it's not
- 13:23exhausting dealing with your whole thing.
- 13:27Mars was played by Rene Blakely and Lieutenant Thompson was
- 13:30played by John Jackson. It was made with a 1.1 million
- 13:34dollar budget, and made 57 million in the box office
- 13:38worldwide. It actually saved new line
- 13:40Cinema from bankruptcy seriously.
- 13:43That's insane. Yeah, it had four wins five
- 13:46nominations, they're like, raise critical views are
- 13:49across-the-board. One of the greatest horror films
- 13:51of all time, it is called an instant Commercial Success.
- 13:55It is the third highest grossing horror series with nine films.
- 14:00A documentary, a TV show novelization of each film and
- 14:03multiple comic books. Yeah, so it's a very impactful
- 14:08horror movie and I've got some fun facts.
- 14:12Okay, I'm doing a little shimmy. We're not at the point in doing
- 14:15video yet but I'm do a little shimmy from a fun facts.
- 14:19Robert Englund cut himself putting on the glove for the
- 14:21first time. So they actually use real
- 14:23blades. I guess weird, if they didn't
- 14:26use real blades, they use decent substitute blades.
- 14:30The movie was inspired by cases of real people.
- 14:34Just simply dying in their sleep.
- 14:35I heard it. Yeah, like there was the
- 14:37autopsy, didn't show like heart failure, 60, Asian nothing like
- 14:40they just died. Fred actually appeared for less
- 14:45than seven minutes total on-screen, which one was Fred?
- 14:50Oh Fred it's so weird hearing them called Fred and not Freddy.
- 14:54Well, he's called Fred like up until the very end when Yancy
- 14:56starts taunting him. Oh, they go back and forth
- 14:59because it starts with a listing and girl saying Freddie that was
- 15:03actually apparently Heather langenkamp.
- 15:06Boyfriend was on set and he was like, seeing a little song.
- 15:09If the internet's to be believed doesn't sound like a boy.
- 15:13No, he wrote the little rhyme. Oh, you made it sound like he
- 15:19was on, says sorry, they just had them.
- 15:20They're singing it, there was more than 500 gallons of fake.
- 15:24Blood used, not surprising. No, it was shot in 32 days.
- 15:30The words Elm Street are not spoken and I thought this is
- 15:34fun. Freddy Krueger is actually named
- 15:37after a childhood bully of Cravens.
- 15:40Hey that's cool. And it's not the first time that
- 15:42he's used the name. Here, I forget which film it
- 15:45was, but there's a character named crew who was also an
- 15:47asshole. So tell you being on the screen
- 15:50movies, maybe how I don't remember.
- 15:52But yeah. So message, anti-bullying
- 15:57message out there. Don't be an asshole, or you
- 15:59might become immortalized as an iconic asshole for the rest of
- 16:02your life, unless that's what you want.
- 16:05Then. Yeah.
- 16:06So here's another thing because I know the Yeah, 2009.
- 16:14And I saw that in theaters. I remember, I think, I think
- 16:16that's right. I think it's actually 2010,
- 16:18honestly. So that remake had Fred
- 16:23definitively denoted, as a child molester.
- 16:27Yeah. And that's actually how the
- 16:29script was originally written. But there was There was a series
- 16:37of molestation cases in California at the time so they
- 16:41rewrote the character to just be a child murderer.
- 16:44They avoid to avoid claims of exploitation.
- 16:48Yeah, but there's you can still kind of tell ya.
- 16:51I mean I mean I know that, you know, they they outright say it,
- 16:56but I mean, come on. There's I don't know what the
- 17:00statistics are on it. I don't want to how we got so
- 17:02heavy with the sexual violence, themes and neon demon and just,
- 17:08I don't want to do any more weird sexual violence today.
- 17:11Don't have to talk on that part. So those are fun facts.
- 17:16We're going to go ahead and do our ratings now.
- 17:19You go. First you first?
- 17:21Yeah, 999. It's a chronic dude.
- 17:26It is Iconic logo 66. Yeah, 6 M M6.
- 17:32Yeah this is 7.5. Average Y6.
- 17:39I don't really find Freddy Krueger creepy.
- 17:42A lot of people do. A lot of people say is one of
- 17:45the scariest horror icons out there but He doesn't really do
- 17:50it for me. Do not because he isn't really
- 17:55intimidating. And anyway, he is nothing
- 17:59against Robert Englund but he is kind of a weird.
- 18:05These doesn't, there's nothing intimidating about his
- 18:08appearance and really the creepiest scenes in this thing
- 18:12are the ones where you don't even see him.
- 18:15So anytime he's on camera, he is either.
- 18:19Just kind of like acting really silly and know that they this is
- 18:24one of the more serious roles like one in more serious movies
- 18:28of him because he gets really ridiculously later on but he's
- 18:32not really shown as competent any time.
- 18:35He's on screen. Like these are a little high
- 18:38schoolers and he has a really tough time wrestling.
- 18:43All these people and he has fucking knife fingers.
- 18:47We're not writing Freddy Krueger, we're ready.
- 18:49A Nightmare on Elm Street who Freddy Krueger is a fucking
- 18:52major piece of the movie and the only piece with these types of
- 18:58movies, you were / or villain your movie hinges on that and
- 19:05how they, how they behave, how they are perceived.
- 19:09It really relies a lot on that. And if the creepiness Factor
- 19:14isn't there, then it really isn't.
- 19:17It doesn't, oh no, I just doesn't live up to it.
- 19:19Like I get that the whole nightmare thing is scary and he
- 19:24can get you in your sleep. Oh you know it's just they don't
- 19:28really I don't really play it that well because the nightmares
- 19:31are kind of lame and the neighbors themselves.
- 19:35It's the whole concept of you're not even safe in your sleep.
- 19:39Yeah, that doesn't do it for me. Plus I think that it's more than
- 19:42just if you're going in just expecting to like the bad guy
- 19:47like you're going to miss out on so many other.
- 19:49A good pieces of a movie. I think the Final Girl Nancy.
- 19:54Holy shit. She was one of the most badass
- 19:56final girls. Yeah.
- 19:58I mean, that's why I gave it a six.
- 20:00I'm not like saying the movie shit.
- 20:02Like I'm just saying it's not creepy.
- 20:04I'm just saying I didn't like the man in it.
- 20:06So yeah, there's something wrong with that.
- 20:08Like I feel like that's like a real gentleman criticism for a
- 20:12horror movie. Well, I guess we'll see as we go
- 20:18along. What happens?
- 20:20All right, let's do it. All right, so it starts off in
- 20:24the boiler room. I do like the beginning of this.
- 20:27It's kind of cool with him. Just see him.
- 20:30Suiting up with this knife, finger gloves and you don't
- 20:34really get any context. It's just you know, this guy is
- 20:37just chasing this girl in the boiler room and the atmosphere
- 20:41there is pretty creepy because you're just kind of thrown in
- 20:43the middle of it, and it's Jarring, especially if you're
- 20:46watching this for the first time, you don't really know what
- 20:48to expect. So I do give the intro credit.
- 20:52Yeah, it's a pretty intense, like chasing nightmare in.
- 20:56I don't know, maybe that's part of the reason right off the bat
- 20:58that this movie is more effective for me, because I have
- 21:01a long history of nightmares. So that feel like I don't need a
- 21:08whole lot to get me thinking about my own nightmares, but
- 21:13let's Craven captures the fear of what it feels like so.
- 21:17Well, like that. Just that panic and no matter
- 21:20what you do you're not going to be able to get far away enough
- 21:23fast enough. Yeah.
- 21:27Yeah he does a pretty good job of getting that right off the
- 21:30bat, I always. Yeah.
- 21:31And then the next day Tina and Nancy and Glenn are walking to
- 21:35school together and she's talking about her Nightmare, and
- 21:38he's like, oh, that's weird. I had the same Nightmare and
- 21:41then Rod comes up and he said I had a boner when I woke Woke up
- 21:45with your name on it and Tina says my name has four letters.
- 21:49How could it fit on your joint? And I just think that's the
- 21:52sickest burn. That was like that's my second
- 21:56note on the paper because it's just amazing.
- 21:59I think we needed more Tina and then as soon as I thought we
- 22:02need more Tina, I heard little Jamie Lloyd in my head going.
- 22:10Did you also think that Rod looked like Michael Jackson?
- 22:14No. But I thought his guyliner was
- 22:15on point. Oh yeah, that I wonder.
- 22:18Yeah, he had it on when he was still in prison to.
- 22:22I was like are they like just passing him his cold underneath
- 22:25like, hey man, go ahead and suit up a little bit because it was
- 22:29like, it was so like fresh looking in the prison really,
- 22:32wouldn't have been after that. How long was he in prison for?
- 22:34I do remember, is that one prison jail?
- 22:38The correct term is jail. Yeah, I don't know how long it
- 22:41was only like a couple days. Yes, sir.
- 22:43The movie takes place over very short, he's like, on the run
- 22:46before hand. It's like I say though, like
- 22:49maybe he's got his eye liner in his pocket and all things like
- 22:51his jacket pocket because he wears the leather jacket even
- 22:54without a shirt. So he just keeps his eye liner
- 22:56there. So it's good to go anywhere.
- 22:58Another jacket and the gel. Yeah.
- 23:00Oh yeah. Maybe he does.
- 23:02I mean it's probably like me and my lipstick because if I bring
- 23:04nothing else with me, when I go out, I bring my phone in my
- 23:07lipstick and I'll stick them into whatever.
- 23:11Holding device, I have usually your pocket but if you're not
- 23:14there it's like bra or like waistband of my pants or
- 23:18something. No pockets Pockets over so sad.
- 23:23So anyway, they Nancy and Glenn decide that they're going to
- 23:29stay with Tina because her mom is gone for the weekend.
- 23:33And I started making little notes about mentions of the
- 23:36parents and observations of the parents because I have a thesis
- 23:41and I'm going to get to it later but I'm taking note of what
- 23:45actions and behaviors the parents have because it's
- 23:48important to my thesis, okay? And what's happened with her,
- 23:51mom is Is the, she is in Vegas with her boyfriend, and the dad
- 23:57had like abandoned the family, previously Tina's, dad had.
- 24:02Is that what this is? Oh yeah.
- 24:04Miss ya it. Well, it's later on it's not
- 24:07like Tina was like hey do you want to come over to my house
- 24:09and my mom's in Vegas? Because my dad abandoned me and
- 24:11she's with her new booty call. Like she didn't say that that's
- 24:14that would be like awkward Exposition.
- 24:16Although if I was in a horror movie.
- 24:17Yeah, exactly. This thing I would say because
- 24:20that's I say things that make people uncomfortable because I'm
- 24:23not mad. Don't Drop My Singing.
- 24:25Is like you're saying this isn't realistic but then again, this
- 24:27is like the same shit you do. I make strangers uncomfortable.
- 24:33So they go to Tina's house and Tina's.
- 24:38Like, Glen should you be here? How scandalous?
- 24:42And he's like, and Nancy's. Like I was mom said, it's okay.
- 24:46And he's like, well kind of and then he plays like this stock
- 24:49sound tape. I want to know where he got this
- 24:52tape of stocks down. It's not only that I'm wondering
- 24:55why was immediately followed up by gunfight.
- 24:59I have so many questions. It's like a white noise machine
- 25:01with completely improbable scenarios on.
- 25:04They're like, who's requesting this to go to sleep with it and
- 25:07I know maybe some people have no some desired, it's like they
- 25:11grew up near an airport and that makes them happy at night.
- 25:15We were talking about sound like, what is the What is the
- 25:22You know, when people people talk into the microphone, like
- 25:25this ASMR, yeah. We were talking about that and
- 25:28different things that make you that like are soothing to listen
- 25:32to and it kind of got more General and people were like
- 25:35rain whale sounds. And somebody was like I like to
- 25:40listen to traffic was like what that they didn't explain it at
- 25:43all. They're just like to listen to
- 25:45traffic. They're probably from the city
- 25:47God. I guess I know my reasoning for
- 25:49that because I otherwise it doesn't make any sense.
- 25:52Weird. Anyway, that's, yeah, it is a
- 25:56very intense stock tape. I can't believe that Glenn's mom
- 25:59bought it, but I think she's kind of like my Glenn's a good
- 26:03boy. I'm not going to worry too much
- 26:04about him. I get a little bit of that
- 26:06sense. Yeah, we'll talk more about
- 26:09guns, mom leadership. Then they like, notice something
- 26:13outside. I think, right?
- 26:14Yeah. So there's this weird like nails
- 26:18on chalkboard type sound except it's more like metal on metal.
- 26:22And they're freaking out because they all had this dream about
- 26:25the men with like the long pointy fingers.
- 26:29And so, they freak out and they go outside and oh, cool.
- 26:32It's just fucking rod. Yeah, but it's cool.
- 26:36This guy's, I mean, what is this with horror movies?
- 26:41And like, guys have to sneak in on the sleepover in the most
- 26:45asshole? This way, I guess.
- 26:49Did I say asshole? Asshole, I'm watching too much.
- 26:52Good place. I feel like in this case, it's
- 26:57to make him. And a hittable.
- 27:00I don't know. Because well actually, I take
- 27:03that back because you're not really meant to feel bad for him
- 27:05or hate him. You're meant to kind of feel bad
- 27:07for him. Because I mean, I guess he's
- 27:10like a typical what are they? Yeah, scene 17.
- 27:13Yeah, they're like high school, I guess, I guess it's typical
- 27:16behavior. And I'll say it.
- 27:19I'll say my catchphrase teenagers are assholes.
- 27:22It's a thing. It's a known thing.
- 27:25I guess I probably knew people in high school that would have
- 27:27done stuff like that. We had a A friend of my friend,
- 27:32we were over like our whole friend group, hang out at her
- 27:35house all the time. And there was one guy in the
- 27:36neighborhood that her dad didn't really like just because he was
- 27:39very erratic and it was just it was too much chaos already with
- 27:45everybody that was always in the house.
- 27:47So one day I was going to be over for the weekend and like I
- 27:51am me and her we're all hanging out outside and he's like coming
- 27:55to need some spaghetti but he the other guy wasn't allowed.
- 27:59And so, he climbed up in the tree before her dad could see
- 28:03and like, were eating in the whole time were like giggling
- 28:05and looking outside and then he finally comes out.
- 28:07There was like a broom and is trying to get him out of the
- 28:10trees. Like you need to go back home,
- 28:12poor kid. So anyway I feel like that's sad
- 28:16Rod Rhodes climb in the tree. Yeah.
- 28:18Tina Connor. Forgives them.
- 28:19Almost immediately, though. I even though he's acting like
- 28:23such a piece of shit. Just go haha.
- 28:25Yeah. Okay, let's go upstairs and have
- 28:27sex. Yeah.
- 28:30Nancy's a good friend to Tina for being there, but she's also
- 28:33not willing to take any shit. She was like, Rod, we're here
- 28:36for Comfort. Calm the fuck down.
- 28:38Where are you? You're doing the exact opposite
- 28:40of what we need to do and then Tina's like, it's okay?
- 28:43We're gonna go have sex. Yeah.
- 28:45Gonna go have really loud sex and we're both going to fix our
- 28:49orgasm sounds. Yeah, they really so it can go
- 28:53ahead and like, hey man, let's have sex soon.
- 28:54She's like, no, we're here for Comfort.
- 28:56He's like, what the fuck you talking about and they're going
- 28:58up there to have sex. X.
- 28:59Yeah. Morality sucks.
- 29:07Yeah, that's what it says. I'm nauseous Lee loud.
- 29:16One was people in the house but to in general, like nothing
- 29:20against loud sex, but they're obviously like yeah, people
- 29:23would people do that? Like there was people like that
- 29:26in college like they're like they put on a performance It's
- 29:30like a Girls Club Girls Club. Oh yeah, go check out my crib
- 29:38islet. But yeah, so afterwards, the
- 29:42whole post-coital thing rods, talking about how he said
- 29:45Nightmare and he's two guys can have nightmares too.
- 29:50Look, there's a sensitive side. We're supposed to get forgive
- 29:53all of his previous Behavior, just because he's got feeling.
- 29:57Yeah, that's no, he's a man and me, Men have many feelings but
- 30:01they're not allowed to feel their manly feelings except for
- 30:04in the comfort of their own manly Interiors.
- 30:07That's like that's a post not reset.
- 30:11So at that point you like yeah like yeah like because the
- 30:15trucks Yak to say oh man hey what's up Tina?
- 30:19That was that was swell. Wasn't my golly, what do you
- 30:25gotta be? So mean basically you Mina But
- 30:30this reason to one of the first nightmares afterwards because we
- 30:35go back to another one. I'm Tina streams and she goes
- 30:38outside and in Her Dream, she sees Freddy down an Alleyway and
- 30:43he's normal and then it cuts back to Tina and then it cuts
- 30:47back to Freddy and all of a sudden he's got giant arms that
- 30:50are like, extending all the way across the fuck is that about?
- 30:52Does it looks goofy as hell. Do it.
- 30:54It's so scary. When I dream like when stuff
- 30:57happens like that dream physics have.
- 30:59No rules and it's terrifying because dream physics for the
- 31:06bad. Guys are just out of the wall
- 31:09but usually for you like, you're bound by all the same mere
- 31:13mortal physics. It's awful.
- 31:16Yeah, but he just doesn't look intimidating.
- 31:19He looks so fucking goofy. Oh, what was it intimidating
- 31:22when he ripped open her chest in both the dream and in real life?
- 31:27Well, before that, whenever he like, Retracts his arms, back to
- 31:31normal length. She starts running back from the
- 31:33alley, and then he chases after another instance of him looking
- 31:37goofy because he's got like the stupid little fucking run where
- 31:39he's like, kind of like waddling back and forth like a penguin or
- 31:42something. Okay.
- 31:44I have a real question for you. Well, what did you think about
- 31:47Pennywise and the new It movie? even when he did, let's say that
- 31:54little jig Yeah, I did like that.
- 31:57Yeah. Okay.
- 31:59How can you accept his goofiness?
- 32:01Because Pennywise is way creepier, why and appearance
- 32:04alone, and just his attitude? Like the way he behaves is way
- 32:08more. What, what is the difference?
- 32:12Pennywise is like chaotic in a way that he doesn't really
- 32:16understand. People like I think he feeds off
- 32:22of their worst fears, but what do you think Freddy is doing
- 32:27Freddy? Is just kind of sitting there in
- 32:30the corner and he's grinning and he's cutting off his own fingers
- 32:33and he's just like, yeah, we'll get that shit.
- 32:35The fucking power move man. Coming out of here.
- 32:39Yeah, we think about that Pennywise.
- 32:41On the other hand, he's just like, I'm going to keep the
- 32:44camera right on my head and it's not going to move and I'm going
- 32:47to fucking dance and it's gonna be Stable and it's going to
- 32:51creep you out because I'm a fucking Wild Card.
- 32:54All right. I think your motivation is
- 32:57purely shallow. I think you're going off of
- 32:59looks and looks are important. I think you're just afraid of
- 33:03clowns. I am afraid of clowns, clowns
- 33:06are very creepy. Travis is currently sitting in
- 33:08front of, for portraits of clients, one of them.
- 33:14Are you clowns tearing him down at the clown?
- 33:16One of the best clowns in Horror history 5e.
- 33:21Yeah, so okay, what about the what about the Tim Curry
- 33:25Pennywise to a lesser degree? It was more scary when I was a
- 33:31kid but see I think that you are just horny for special effects.
- 33:36No, not really. I think so.
- 33:38I think you like the as much as you like 80s slasher movies.
- 33:44I think that you like the newer cinematography and effects
- 33:47better known because cuz you're being awfully shallow about the
- 33:51reasons that you don't like Freddie.
- 33:53No, I prefer practical effects and it was mostly CGI with his
- 33:58stuff but I do they pull it off the aesthetic a little bit
- 34:02better. I believe.
- 34:05Pretty is just a man with a fucking door and a red and green
- 34:10sweater and he sucks at killing people.
- 34:15Like, I mean, well, he doesn't suck at killing people fucking
- 34:18dies. Pretty quick, man.
- 34:19After being floated around the goddamn room.
- 34:22Yeah. So, you know, actually, I need
- 34:24to take that back. So he does not suck at killing
- 34:26people, because all of the deaths in this are pretty
- 34:29fucking awesome. Especially this one right here.
- 34:32I like watching this. Now I'm like how Fuck.
- 34:35Did they pull this off? Because she's just like being
- 34:40drugged up to the ceiling and just like, dragging up against a
- 34:44like Bloods. Being like, Oh no, just like a
- 34:47trail of it, following her around the room.
- 34:51He's so get ride in the shot. You like get to see him looking
- 34:56up and seeing this whole thing happening to so they did a
- 34:59really good job with that. Yeah.
- 35:01Alright. Okay.
- 35:02Once upon a time I had seen something behind the scenes how
- 35:05They did that. I don't remember what it was,
- 35:07but it's a really cool way. That was a wires happen.
- 35:09I don't remember, we have this on DVD, but it was like a really
- 35:13cheap Walmart horror pack like it has the first four I think
- 35:18so. Yeah.
- 35:19Yeah, yeah. So it was like got it for $7 so
- 35:22it didn't have had some stuff. We just I don't think I don't
- 35:25know if it had any that. Yeah, we were trying to like do
- 35:28a bunch of back-to-back watching and recording that day so we
- 35:31don't have that much time. But yeah, there's some What a
- 35:35cool practical effects going on with it.
- 35:37I didn't love the effect of her chest being torn open because it
- 35:43felt very like you, and most of our listeners are going to get
- 35:47this. So, Barbies back in the day,
- 35:50whenever there was like a special feature to them, it was
- 35:52always like a little bit weird, like, they'd have attenuated
- 35:56joints or something, or like, you could have a little ring to
- 35:58make them flip and it kind of makes me think of like if there
- 36:02was a Freddy Krueger Barbie doll like a Tina plus Freddie Barbie
- 36:08doll set, her chest would be Hollows that way.
- 36:11You could, like, pretend rip it open.
- 36:13That's kind of what it looked like.
- 36:14To me, it didn't look good to you yet know, like the actual
- 36:18cutting effect, didn't look good, but I thought the blood
- 36:21look decent. Yeah, the boy.
- 36:22That's really good. Yes.
- 36:24Just actual chess cutting. Open thing was a little bit,
- 36:27like they didn't Linger on it for very long, but I think it's
- 36:30just because I've gotten to the point where like, I'm always
- 36:32looking at special effects now that I was like, hmm.
- 36:35It was a quick cut. So I mean if they lingered on a
- 36:37would have really been noticeably was for Quick Cuts.
- 36:41Huh. So then, you know, they Glenn in
- 36:47Nancy break down the door. It's locked from the inside.
- 36:50Rod has run outside because he immediately clocks that he is
- 36:53going to be blamed for this shit, and he is not wrong.
- 36:56And I mean honestly, who can blame anybody for blaming him.
- 37:00Well, for one, you can just stay there and be like, how the fuck
- 37:03am I going to be capable of? Dragging her up against the
- 37:06ceiling of this place. I'm not that tall.
- 37:08I can't like you might have to like be like I'm not that strong
- 37:13even though he doesn't want to say that, but how else is he
- 37:16going to play it? Like who is the other suspect?
- 37:20You gotta you gotta so he his whole defense with this because
- 37:25they track him down later, but he is saying that somebody was
- 37:32in the room and somebody killed her, he couldn't see her.
- 37:35Or you can see him but he knows somebody else was in the room
- 37:39and I think your best argument here is to go with that.
- 37:44Like it might not work the best for you, but if you're running
- 37:48away that's going to look so much worse.
- 37:50Ain't no jury going to believe it either way.
- 37:54He was going to fly regardless. No, Maybe So This is where we
- 38:00find out that Nancy's. Father is Lieutenant.
- 38:05And here's how we find out, because lieutenant, and some
- 38:08other officer, or talking and one officer is like, oh, mom is
- 38:14in Vegas with the boyfriend. She's not answering her phone,
- 38:17make a note of that Mom, not answering the phone even though
- 38:20she knows her daughter is home alone, okay?
- 38:25And Lieutenant Thompson goes. What was she doing there in the
- 38:29officer is like, what the fuck do you mean she lives there?
- 38:33And then he opens the door and says, I mean you talking to
- 38:38Nancy and I'm like, okay first of all rude to the officer
- 38:42behind you. Second of all, what the fuck is
- 38:44Nancy supposed to say to that? You have the first half of this
- 38:47conversation on the other side of the door without her?
- 38:53It's guys like Lives in his own head the entire time.
- 38:56It's got to be frustrating having conversations with him
- 38:58because he transitions from one conversation to the next with
- 39:01the next person he sees. And I do.
- 39:03What the fuck are you talking about?
- 39:04The divorce has been rough on him and he's been talking to
- 39:07himself a lot and his new Bachelor Pad are they divorce?
- 39:11Yeah. Oh I thought the dad was there.
- 39:12I thought I just thought he wasn't there all the time
- 39:14because he knew their they're divorced.
- 39:18Fuck man what'd I miss? That's why they're so like kind
- 39:21of hostile to each other throughout everything.
- 39:24I just noticed like stress from everything going on.
- 39:28No I mean there's stress to but ya know, they're they're the
- 39:31worst well so they got, they got that bde big divorce energy.
- 39:36They go fuck a mansion and the wife one that was yeah that in
- 39:40the divorce. So Lieutenant Thompson, even
- 39:45when he does start actually speaking to his daughter
- 39:48directly is still kind of a dick about it because he's like what
- 39:51were you doing hanging out with that lunatic?
- 39:53Sick and she's like Rod is not a lunatic Daddy and I'm like he
- 39:58kind of is a little bit Nancy. He did like pull out a
- 40:00switchblade on you guys. After he you know purposefully
- 40:05made you think that he was an intruder so you guys are kind of
- 40:08on edge. He's a little bit of a lunatic
- 40:12so and I he didn't he didn't kill Tina, slightly Lumi, she
- 40:19she was talking about how Tina and Rod had a fight.
- 40:23But it wasn't anything serious and her mom Marge.
- 40:28She's fucking Christ. Maybe you don't think murder is
- 40:31serious. Calm down a little bit, dude.
- 40:35Your daughter's best friend just was murdered.
- 40:38Yeah. While she was there.
- 40:39Yeah. And she's like, obviously, I'm
- 40:41taking this seriously just like I just meant you know them
- 40:45bickering about him missing a date, wasn't enough for him to
- 40:48kill her. Yeah.
- 40:52Jesus age. Yeah, it was kind of stupid
- 40:55junkie like you know spoiler but she's responsible for the murder
- 41:02of Fred Krueger Marge is Don't Call Him Fred.
- 41:05Just call him. Freddy come on Fred it's fried
- 41:08ready crooner. She is responsible for the
- 41:11murder of Frederick and It's a little bit hypocritical for her
- 41:17to be like, maybe you don't take murders seriously?
- 41:21Ha, ha ha. It's just one of those people
- 41:23that's like hell, it's different when I do it though.
- 41:25Hmm, my good old fundamental attribution, error.
- 41:31Love that love and Ernie for her.
- 41:34The next morning Marge is watching TV on her tiny little
- 41:38kitchen counter TV and the news is on and she's pouring herself
- 41:43some vodka. Straight in the a.m.
- 41:46And obviously, Marge's alcoholism is very much
- 41:50highlighted throughout this film, but that's another like
- 41:53parental Behavior to keep in mind.
- 41:56Yeah, and she's like, all the classic like alcohol is
- 41:59something like she's drinking first, they like she's always
- 42:01drinking. We never see her, not drinking,
- 42:03except for maybe at the Sleep Clinic and I wouldn't be
- 42:05surprised if she was packing a flask in her purse.
- 42:08Yeah, she's having stashes because she's got stashes hidden
- 42:11everywhere because Nancy busts a On the kitchen floor and she's
- 42:16like Artie down. Halfway through another bottle.
- 42:18A few hours later, she's got them packed up.
- 42:22She's yeah, she's not in a good place.
- 42:24She is clearly. Not handling several life
- 42:28things. Well and then Rod does the
- 42:31dumbest fucking thing he could do.
- 42:33Which is grabbing man. See when she's out in broad
- 42:36daylight even though he's presumably known her for a
- 42:39little while and presumably knows that her father, is the
- 42:42police Lieutenant, right? That's not a smart guy.
- 42:45We've yeah, we know that at this point but yeah, that's really
- 42:48stupid for like anybody. Right there.
- 42:51Like, she is a known associate. Obviously, they're going to keep
- 42:56an eye on her double obvious, if her dad, is the police
- 43:00Lieutenant, I guess. He really just wanted to get his
- 43:04point across to somebody. I don't know she believes him
- 43:08because he makes a compelling argument.
- 43:10It's, you know, everybody's already on edge because they're
- 43:14sharing. The same nightmare of the sky.
- 43:16That is just kind of creepy and doing weird shit and he makes
- 43:21some comment, I believe about how he had Like knives or
- 43:27something like that. Yeah, the knife fingers.
- 43:30Yeah. So now Nancy is like, okay, this
- 43:32is weird. That four people had the same
- 43:34dream. One of those people is now dead.
- 43:37She's starting to think that maybe there's a little something
- 43:40going on. Anyway, she goes to class and
- 43:43they talk about Hamlet. Oh.
- 43:45Well, also the cops bus ride. I thought that was kind of, I
- 43:50don't know implied by me talking about.
- 43:52Well in case it wasn't, it's important.
- 43:54He's he's been caught here. Yeah, and Nancy's rightfully
- 43:57pissed to her dad for using her like that.
- 44:00What is I understand him? I'm just also saying, I get why
- 44:05she feels like her privacy was violated because it seems like
- 44:07maybe he's not around a whole lot because he's very focused on
- 44:12work. And now that his parents are
- 44:15divorced, things are always tenuous between them, she
- 44:19doesn't get to just, you know, enjoy having parents, she's
- 44:22dealing with their dysfunction. And then, on top of that, like
- 44:27her friend, who she doesn't think murdered her.
- 44:29Other friend has been arrested partially, just because she was
- 44:32walking to school, which she was getting yelled at for, for going
- 44:36to school. Nancy is having a bad day.
- 44:39Mmm, fair. Then she goes to school and they
- 44:42talk about Hamlet and it's very intentional.
- 44:45I think that they're talking about Hamlet because Hamlet is
- 44:48basically a lot about prophetic dreams and sins of the parents.
- 44:55Which is obviously applicable to this movie.
- 44:58It's been a long time since I read it and I looked at the
- 45:01CliffsNotes and basically like what happens is, the king of
- 45:06Denmark is murdered and his brother comes and marries the
- 45:11widowed Queen and everybody thinks that like they think the
- 45:15King's death was an accident but there's like a ghost it comes to
- 45:19Hamlet and says no I was murdered by your uncle And
- 45:26Hamlet tries to print on that, he's crazy.
- 45:27So that way he can get away with trying to find the truth behind
- 45:32what actually happened, and expose it for what it is, which
- 45:36very much parallels. What Nancy ends up doing?
- 45:38Because everybody thinks that she's just gone crazy from lack
- 45:40of sleep and grief and stress and everything and then she ends
- 45:44up, you know, pulling Frederick. Out of the dream.
- 45:47Don't do this to me. God, you did this to yourself.
- 45:53Yeah, so fun fact for He didn't pay attention in English class
- 45:57in high school. That's what Hamlet's about and
- 45:59it's relevant to this, right? I did not pay attention to the
- 46:01English class and thank you for reminding me because I
- 46:05completely forgot about handle it.
- 46:07If you need the CliffsNotes of Hamlet, just watch The Lion
- 46:10King, really some baseball. It's also based off of some kind
- 46:13of Japanese cartoon but you know, like it's also based off
- 46:19of National Geographic. I may be wrong but I think it's
- 46:24called a keeper. Or something like that, but it's
- 46:28a blatant ripoff. Anyhow, we get to the scene of,
- 46:35what's her name? Well, this is the same scene.
- 46:37It's English class that she falls asleep in.
- 46:39Okay, well yeah, so she's asleep in there and this is one of the
- 46:45instances of a creepy scene that doesn't really feature Freddy.
- 46:49And one that I think is really effective.
- 46:52It features Frederick but not as fragile.
- 46:55Act like yeah, other characters like the hall monitor.
- 46:58I like that. Yeah, I like that.
- 47:00They do that because that's what like a layer to it but she sees
- 47:05a body bag being drug through the Baltic creepy-ass scene.
- 47:09I know it's really good and then whenever she wanders out into
- 47:12the hallway she sees it just a little laying out in the
- 47:14distance and then something invisible picks it up and drags
- 47:18even further around the corner. So there are so many references
- 47:22to this scene, in pop culture, Wes Craven kind of references
- 47:26himself with this in Scream 3 look a bit different because
- 47:29it's but no, he referenced. Yeah, the janitor named Fred is
- 47:35wearing a red and green sweater. But I'm talking about Scream 3,
- 47:39where Sid sees her mom outside and it's kind of like a similar
- 47:44like body bag reanimated type thing that's so jarring for that
- 47:48movie, that that moment any time that happens.
- 47:51I'm like, what the fuck is happening here?
- 47:52But yeah, this is a really good scene there.
- 47:55Is an episode of Buffy. That's kind of similar that to
- 47:58in the first season was the first or second season, one of
- 48:02the sea, one of the early Seasons, which I'm hoping people
- 48:08back me up if this is what you want to see.
- 48:10But I'm hoping we can get Travis to watch Buffy and we'll talk
- 48:12about a season by season on the patreon if that's what you want
- 48:15to see. Email us.
- 48:18Tweet me things at Travis just say Just say don't be a Xander.
- 48:26Travis I know in that Xander is annoying Sandra grows and it's
- 48:33not that he's annoying. Is that he's a blatant
- 48:35misogynist in the first P Seasons.
- 48:38Yeah, I've heard so. Yeah.
- 48:43There's there's like a nightmare episode and it very much
- 48:48references Craven in it. Well, back to the scene, I like
- 48:53the whenever he or wherever she goes around the corner and she
- 48:56sees the hall monitor, you can tell that it's going to be
- 49:01Freddy right away because she's wearing red and green, you know,
- 49:04get the whole Freddy, get up going on.
- 49:08And then I think my mom, she walks down further, she turns
- 49:10around and the hall monitor, like yells back at her.
- 49:14And suddenly she has the gloves on.
- 49:19I don't know. I don't know what else to say.
- 49:20I just love this scene, like it's really good.
- 49:22It's really creepy. And this is what I'm talking
- 49:25about when I'm saying this movie excels whenever the dreams don't
- 49:29necessarily feature Freddy themselves or himself because
- 49:34yeah, but this is Frederick toying with Nancy, like he's
- 49:38trying to get her barriers down. He's like it's part of the whole
- 49:43you know, mine fuck thing. Yeah, if he did more things like
- 49:47this. As himself instead of I don't
- 49:54know I feel like he's way more effective whenever he's a not
- 49:57like actual his own Menace and if manifestation big news on
- 50:05manifestation is there because I don't know something about it
- 50:09just kind of immediately drops it for me.
- 50:11Hmm interesting well this cuts to Nancy actually waking up.
- 50:17Her arm has been burnt. She wakes up, she's screaming.
- 50:21She's in the middle class. The teacher is like trying to
- 50:27calm her down and she's just like, I'm just gonna, I'm just
- 50:33gonna leave. I'm just gonna leave and the
- 50:34teachers. Like I don't even know.
- 50:36Yeah, okay. No.
- 50:38I mean like, she's like, I don't know what else to do.
- 50:40I fell asleep in class one time and It was a v bio and I forget
- 50:47what it was or supposed to be talking about.
- 50:49I just remember, I was dreaming something about flowers and the
- 50:52person next to me was like, did you have a question and I was
- 50:55like, what about the flowers? And then I realize I was awake.
- 50:59So like I've had that moment of like, falling asleep in class
- 51:02and all of a sudden you wake up and you realize you're in class.
- 51:04But I wasn't like I wasn't being pursued by a murderer, so I
- 51:07guess I can't fully relate not not to try and take the
- 51:12spotlight away from her childhood.
- 51:15So, she decides that she's gonna she just said she was gonna go
- 51:19visit Glenn at the jail. Sorry.
- 51:21I'm trying to understand my own truck when rod have fuck.
- 51:25Yeah. Rod.
- 51:26Glenn's a good boy. It's not good.
- 51:28Yeah. So she's just like she is really
- 51:33honestly, trying to understand what he's saying and what his
- 51:36perspective is and why you know, what could have possibly done it
- 51:41and that's where he mentions the thing about the razor fingers
- 51:45and Nancy is what's right? Yeah.
- 51:48And then we've got another fucking.
- 51:51So many fucking iconic scenes in this film, because this next
- 51:55one, is her in the tub. And we see that shot of the
- 51:59glove just coming off. It is Be a shit me.
- 52:02That one is cool. I like that.
- 52:03Yeah, like Parts like that. I like how it phases in and out
- 52:09of her being in a dream, and it's seamless.
- 52:12So you never know what's actually real, and what's not.
- 52:15That's really well done. I do appreciate that.
- 52:18And I think it's, it is so much more effective than other movies
- 52:22where you just have random dream sequences.
- 52:24Like we just talked about the neon demon and, you know, we've
- 52:26got that scene where counter Reeves is like putting his Knife
- 52:32into Jesse's mouth. Yeah.
- 52:34And the whole time like At first really great.
- 52:36What the fuck and then all of a sudden?
- 52:38It like actually is a dream. I like that, though.
- 52:40I like sorry, I liked it because it's jarring but this actually
- 52:44makes so much more sense when you like interweave it with the
- 52:48story itself, because that's what Nancy is actually
- 52:50legitimately going through. I think you and I, most of the
- 52:52time, if you have a weird dream, you wake up from it and it takes
- 52:56a minute to get over the fact that it was a dream.
- 53:00But like for her, she's actually being hunted in her dream and
- 53:06she gets so sleep-deprived that it's hard for her to tell when
- 53:08she's awake when she's asleep. When what's real, what's
- 53:11actually a threat? What isn't?
- 53:12And I think it's so like, it's not even just lip service to the
- 53:16audience. Like, here's a scary moment.
- 53:19Like it's actually the story. Yeah.
- 53:22You know what I mean? Yeah, so I think that's really
- 53:27great and then her mom Her mom is like, don't fall asleep in
- 53:32there to help you sleep. I brought you some more milk.
- 53:37She's just like people drown that way to the warm milk man.
- 53:42See is gross and I'm like hell. Yeah, it's gross.
- 53:47But then she falls asleep again and gets dragged underwater in
- 53:52deep deep. Deep deep deep water.
- 53:54And I've had this nightmare so many time.
- 53:56Being in water like that. Yeah, drowning.
- 53:58Going deep. Deep.
- 53:59Deep water, not in a tub. Usually, it's like on an island
- 54:05tropical Hot Tropical. It's more like, Lord of the
- 54:08Flies. Like, my nightmares are
- 54:11nightmares from beginning to end.
- 54:12They don't start off Pleasant like nightmare all the way
- 54:17through its dream or it's nightmare.
- 54:19It's not both, I can't tell if that sucks, or if that's good,
- 54:22because it's terrible. Do you remember the time I woke
- 54:27up and I legitimately thought you had tried to kill me because
- 54:30it was such an intense dream. Hmm.
- 54:33Remember it knows our senior year of college because you
- 54:36could make. You feel like I've gotta get up
- 54:38and get ready for class and I like scooted across the bed.
- 54:40Oh yeah. What is wrong with your nose?
- 54:44Like you just tried to kill me. All right, folks, if I end up
- 54:50dead, don't want this to come and unsolved mystery on Netflix,
- 54:55just Travis, did it? He just nodded.
- 55:02All right, so there's evidence is why nothing in the swing.
- 55:06I like how whenever she screams. And her mom was like, oh my God,
- 55:10what's happening? And she's like, I just tripped
- 55:16whenever you trip? Do you like scream at the top of
- 55:18your lungs out? Ah, don't you tell me?
- 55:22I had shrimp a lot and you usually come running to check on
- 55:25me. You don't do that.
- 55:26You don't scream like you're dying.
- 55:28I usually just make a lot of noise because I When I flew,
- 55:31when I go down, I take everything around me, with me.
- 55:34This is like scream, Queen, material screaming, right here.
- 55:37What Nancy does? She is a scream Queen?
- 55:41She is what I'm talking about. Like, when people don't do that,
- 55:43whenever they trip out of the shower, it doesn't suck that bad
- 55:46guys. Come on.
- 55:49Well after she's done with that she finds stay awake pills.
- 55:53Great. Great marketing.
- 55:55Who came up with that name fellas.
- 55:58It's a good thing. Yeah I mean if I went to stay
- 56:00awake, I'm gonna hungry. Yeah.
- 56:06Yeah I can see that being a thing for the yeah.
- 56:09And then she she does what always worked for me.
- 56:11In high school, which is just staying up reading and watching
- 56:14horror movies know, she does a terrible thing because she's
- 56:17laying down in bed. Watching TV, we both fall
- 56:20asleep. So often doing that, but she's
- 56:23staying up reading and I can always people fall asleep
- 56:27reading all the time. That's like, one of the things
- 56:29that makes people fall asleep. The fastest.
- 56:31Okay? Not, if you like to read and
- 56:33Nancy's a nerd like me and you can't give in to your, I love
- 56:36that. She's a nerd like me.
- 56:40You're just identifying with Nancy.
- 56:41But yes, you don't even know Nancy.
- 56:44You don't know Nancy. I know.
- 56:46We're better than you. What?
- 56:48Yeah, no I think I do. I think you don't Well, I know
- 56:54that it's a fucking stupid idea to weigh down in bed if you're
- 56:57trying to stay awake. Because why why would you do
- 57:01that? Okay, sit up.
- 57:03When my mom gets here, tomorrow, we're going to ask her about all
- 57:08the times that I stayed up, way, way, way, way, way, way, way
- 57:12way, way late with, like a flashlight or a little closer
- 57:15core, something and read my books.
- 57:17And she was like, well, that's why you're tired.
- 57:19Because you are you going on? No sleep at this point because
- 57:22she's not Slip the previous day. I won't know obviously.
- 57:27Well, that's what I'm talking about.
- 57:28Like somebody who's like, running low and sweep is not
- 57:31going to want to do is, you know, trying to defend her own
- 57:34life here. Terribly he's got motivation.
- 57:40No, it's stupid. I'm just saying you can't defend
- 57:43that it's stupid and defending it, you know, I doing a good
- 57:46job. Well, are you gonna defend
- 57:49Glenn? Climbing up a trellis, this just
- 57:53made me realize. West Craven has a thing for high
- 57:56school, boys. Climbing up in the high school.
- 57:58Girls windows. I know like, was that
- 58:00everything? I have a, I think it is a thing.
- 58:06I don't really know any other things.
- 58:08So this from, but I definitely know what happens in this and
- 58:11scream. No, I mean in real life, oh, I'm
- 58:14sure I'm sure people are did that.
- 58:17I mean, I don't really know any people who had that type of
- 58:21situation, to where they had like those circumstances lineup,
- 58:25and they wanted to see that person that night, usually
- 58:29people just kind of Come over and sneak in.
- 58:32All right, folks, if you've ever climbed a trellis or had anyone
- 58:35climate trellis to get to you, let us know.
- 58:38Please, I'd be interested. It's important for every search.
- 58:41I'm not going to tell you what we're researching, but we need
- 58:43to know it isn't. So anyway, he comes to visit me.
- 58:48A trellis and This. I'm laughing at not because I'm
- 58:55a bitter person who's like, I'll do use because Nancy looks in a
- 58:59mirror. And she goes God, I look 20
- 59:01years old, which yeah, 20 isn't old, but when you're 16, it is a
- 59:07lot. Like it is.
- 59:09And I know people like want to make fun of me like, oh, honey.
- 59:12I get that all the time where I'm like, I'm starting to
- 59:16legitimately get wrinkles and it is what it is.
- 59:19I've had a lot of sun exposure in my life.
- 59:21I've had a lot of stress. What the fuck?
- 59:22Ever it is like, I'm not mad about it but if I say something
- 59:26about it to somebody who's like, literally they could be a single
- 59:29day older than me and they'll be like a honey, just wait until
- 59:31you're my age. You'll have to just have a
- 59:33competition about how their life sucks.
- 59:35Congratulations on, not dying so far.
- 59:38I'm just talking about my life and I'm not even complaining
- 59:41that I have wrinkles. I'm just like, hey this is a
- 59:43fact about my life now and I use more lotions than I did before.
- 59:47Like Yeah. It's not like it is what it is.
- 59:51And so I'm not making fun of her saying.
- 59:54Oh God, I look like I'm 20 years old.
- 59:56I'm laughing about it because Heather langenkamp was actually
- 59:5920 years old when it was being filmed.
- 1:00:01Yeah, she doesn't look like a high schooler high schoolers
- 1:00:04never look like high schoolers the movies.
- 1:00:06Johnny Depp. Looks like a high school year I
- 1:00:10think he does. Yeah, no, you tell me boy, your
- 1:00:14tiny boy. I am a tiny boy.
- 1:00:17I could probably go to high school right now.
- 1:00:19Oh, you got a beard now. I went to high school.
- 1:00:22I went to middle school with a guy with the fact everybody,
- 1:00:25we've never talked about this, but Travis draws himself without
- 1:00:29beard on all of our episode are and he has rock and full beard.
- 1:00:35So it's not full beard Eli. Why it's like Scruff.
- 1:00:40It also lies about my hair a lot, too.
- 1:00:43I'll take, artistic Liberties beards aren't?
- 1:00:46I can't find a good way to really draw a beard on myself
- 1:00:50and make it look good. So I don't do it.
- 1:00:51It's the I feel like if I had a prominent beard, I would make it
- 1:00:56happen. But my beard isn't really like
- 1:00:58that big of a deal like if you picture me, Kevin's, first name
- 1:01:03Impala, you don't really think. Oh man, that guy's got a beard.
- 1:01:08You think that guy? He's got like he's got a soft
- 1:01:12cheese. He does.
- 1:01:40I'm sorry. I didn't, I didn't even I didn't
- 1:01:42even know I ever thought that until just now.
- 1:01:49We're Tame Impala fans. I love Taylor and Paula, I've
- 1:01:53got, I've got confetti from their show at Shaky Knees his
- 1:01:58show their show. I like, I don't know if it's him
- 1:02:02or there. I don't it's him.
- 1:02:03And he tore his with the band called Pond boys, very similar
- 1:02:06music. Okay.
- 1:02:08Alright, like, I get confused cuz I feel like I read both
- 1:02:11things all the time, just like, I don't know, just gonna refer
- 1:02:14to tame Impala's, Tame Impala all the time, but I also know
- 1:02:17his name's Kevin. Yeah.
- 1:02:18Because people go. Oh, Kevin, where the fuck were
- 1:02:22we at talking about when she says that she looks like twin.
- 1:02:26Oh okay. So she she says she wants to go
- 1:02:30hunting and her dream and she tells Glenn not to fall asleep
- 1:02:34and to stand guard which is obviously a bad idea right off
- 1:02:38the bat. And I want to point out that
- 1:02:40Glenn is sitting up. In this Travis, pay student
- 1:02:43straight up. He's not laying in bed.
- 1:02:46Reading a book. So far the sleep.
- 1:02:50I'm just saying it's better to do that.
- 1:02:53Now, I'm not saying it's impossible to fall asleep like
- 1:02:56that, I'm just saying if you're going to try and stay awake sit
- 1:02:59up, obviously, our boy has an issue staying up because he's
- 1:03:02like, yes, almost as fast as her because she goes into her dream
- 1:03:07and she walks down the sidewalk like 10 feet and then turns
- 1:03:10around and goes when you still awake and he pops out from
- 1:03:14behind a bush because yep and I'm like he's in your dream
- 1:03:16dude. He's obviously not not awakened.
- 1:03:19See where he's in the dream? No, I don't think that they're
- 1:03:22sharing a dream. I think that's her dreaming of
- 1:03:25him. I feel like he's probably
- 1:03:27dreaming his old thing. Oh, I interpreted that as like
- 1:03:29he's already asleep though, is what I mean?
- 1:03:31Oh maybe, yeah. I mean, I wouldn't have thought
- 1:03:34that but you know but she sees Frederick and Rod style and then
- 1:03:44she sees Tina and Glenn is not waking her up and she was like
- 1:03:47screaming for Glenn to wake her up and Frederick chases her and
- 1:03:51then there's the marshmallow stairs.
- 1:03:54That's cool. I like that.
- 1:03:55Yeah. That's like, and that's such a
- 1:03:57real and I like the way that that was visually.
- 1:04:01Put onto the screen because I think everybody who's ever had a
- 1:04:04nightmare knows that feeling of like not being able to move.
- 1:04:07So I like that idea of like instead of just having Robert
- 1:04:12Englund and Heather langenkamp act, like they can't move very
- 1:04:16much like they gave them something to be stuck in.
- 1:04:19So at this point, do you think that he is actively trying to
- 1:04:22kill her? Or do you think he's fucking
- 1:04:24well, he's fucking with her, you think so?
- 1:04:25I think so. I think he's trying to kill her.
- 1:04:28No, I think he's fucking with her.
- 1:04:30Her because he wrestled her to the ground.
- 1:04:33And then she manages to get out of the dream, he's trying to
- 1:04:36kill her like he's got her pinned down.
- 1:04:39I think that's one of those things that he's fucking with
- 1:04:41her. If he's got the opportunity,
- 1:04:43he's going to kill her. But he's not like hell-bent on.
- 1:04:45Like I'm going to kill her right now.
- 1:04:47I just think he's, I just I don't think he's doing a good
- 1:04:50job. I think he's this is one of
- 1:04:52things against him here. Sometimes, like, Zoey likes to
- 1:04:58pounce on Scout a lot and when Scout gets the opportunity to
- 1:05:00pounce on Zoe, sometimes she'll sit there, and she'll rub
- 1:05:03herself up like a little bit too much too long, and then so it
- 1:05:07goes away and when she goes away the scouts just like, okay, like
- 1:05:11you know she's going to take the opportunity but if she doesn't
- 1:05:14she's not like butthurt, whereas Zoe.
- 1:05:17If Zoe wants to attack Scout and she does her little ramp up and
- 1:05:20Scout moves away before she's ready to pounce.
- 1:05:22So he chases after her. See, that's the thing, I think
- 1:05:24everything I think weather. I think everything before that
- 1:05:27is him doing that, like little butt wiggle likes, getting ready
- 1:05:30to pounce and him actually chasing her and pouncing.
- 1:05:34On top of her, is the point where he's trying to actually
- 1:05:38see through the whole killing. But he never is able to do it
- 1:05:44because he sucks at doing this because he's these are like high
- 1:05:49school children and my man is a grown adult.
- 1:05:54He is struggling to match these kids strings is not a grown
- 1:06:00adult. He is a super natural
- 1:06:02manifestation, so that makes it even worse than No, it's
- 1:06:08supernatural. Manifestation is way more.
- 1:06:13Physically should be way more physically capable than what.
- 1:06:15He is fully believe that he wants to just murder her
- 1:06:20straight out because okay, we haven't gotten there yet
- 1:06:23obviously, but at the end of the movie after like everybody is
- 1:06:27dead, he still fucking with her in her dream.
- 1:06:31Yeah. And this is after he's fucked
- 1:06:33with her. He's already fucked with her at
- 1:06:34this point. He's given her the marshmallow
- 1:06:36serious. Read him.
- 1:06:37The thrill is in the chase. Yeah.
- 1:06:40You got that chase. And he got on her and he, but if
- 1:06:43you can get a chance to do, if he can get the chase before and
- 1:06:48after death, what does it matter when she actually dies?
- 1:06:53It's not like she's special or anything like he's preserving
- 1:06:57her. He hasn't had any issues,
- 1:06:59killing anybody else. She is way more competent than
- 1:07:01everybody else and maybe she is special for that reason.
- 1:07:04Do you ever? Okay so like when you get a meal
- 1:07:08like a restaurant or something or you're like invited to a
- 1:07:11fancy event and you got like a bunch of sites and Link the main
- 1:07:16and there's the side that you're really really excited about.
- 1:07:20And you like Ethan, other things because you want to save the
- 1:07:22side for last, but you might take a couple of bites at the
- 1:07:25side but you want to like save the best part, like the majority
- 1:07:29of it for after you've eaten everything else.
- 1:07:31Usually the entree is the best part.
- 1:07:33Hmm. I'm a vegetarian.
- 1:07:36Yeah. You're a vegetarian allele of
- 1:07:37side dishes so much but yeah. Like, you know, when you do that
- 1:07:42thing or like when you eat a Pop-Tart and eat the like crust
- 1:07:44part first, and then you save the frosting past Listen, I'm
- 1:07:51not the only person out here that has weird food habits.
- 1:07:53I know at least one person listening to stuff like this and
- 1:07:56I'm sure like more than one does.
- 1:07:58You're the weird one for not doing that.
- 1:08:00I'm not said, it's because you only eat like three things.
- 1:08:03So, no, I like for at least more than three but anyway, it's a
- 1:08:10thing like that so like maybe he's having fun chasing Nancy
- 1:08:14around. But like he's also chasing these
- 1:08:17other kids. It's around two and they're
- 1:08:19easier to pick off and he doesn't care as much about
- 1:08:21fucking with them. And he's like, okay, boom, I'm
- 1:08:23going to kill you so weird that we don't hear about any other
- 1:08:26deaths going on during this because the classes way.
- 1:08:30Yeah, it's like a whole class of children.
- 1:08:33That's probably my biggest complaint is that we're not
- 1:08:35hearing like, at least passing mention of like, yeah, you think
- 1:08:39it's like, you know, Tina is the third and Nancy's class to die
- 1:08:44this month or something like that.
- 1:08:47Yeah, you would think that they would be.
- 1:08:48Nothing. But now, he's focusing solely on
- 1:08:51these four though, went to this house party.
- 1:08:54That Tina coasted. It's a house party I guess.
- 1:08:58I don't know. Sleepover no.
- 1:09:00It's a boy-girl sleepover. It's a sexy sleepover.
- 1:09:04It's a halfway sexy sleepover because Nancy and Glenn are
- 1:09:07there to support Tina and her fake orgasms.
- 1:09:11Morality sucks. Yes, good thing.
- 1:09:15That Nancy knew not to 100% trust Glen.
- 1:09:18Could she also set her very fucking loud alarm clock to go
- 1:09:23off. At like three in the morning and
- 1:09:26then when her mom busts and she's like oh yeah.
- 1:09:29No no it's no big deal Mom. I just had a bad dream.
- 1:09:31I'm like, I don't think it was your screaming that woke her up,
- 1:09:35dude. Her mom is probably wasted.
- 1:09:39Probably, it doesn't, it doesn't take much to satisfy her when we
- 1:09:43give her an answer. But also I was thinking with
- 1:09:47this, they're trying. So the goal is basically the not
- 1:09:50dream, right? If you cannot dream.
- 1:09:56That would be ideal in this scenario.
- 1:10:00Maybe they should try smoking weed because smoking weed.
- 1:10:03Apparently, reduces your ability to be able to dream.
- 1:10:07So, I don't know. I'm just saying.
- 1:10:11Hmm. There are like things you can do
- 1:10:14to reduce the amount of like how frequently you dream.
- 1:10:19So maybe not going to sleep. That's kind of a losing battle
- 1:10:24because you're going to have to go to sleep or else you're going
- 1:10:26to die. But, you know, you don't need to
- 1:10:29dream, I always thought, I don't think you do.
- 1:10:32They still don't really know as far as I know what dreaming is
- 1:10:35about. So there is actually, so there
- 1:10:38are certain animals that sleep with only half their brain at a
- 1:10:41time. I'm ducks are one such example
- 1:10:43because they'll sleep like in a flock and they've got like guard
- 1:10:46Ducks around the rest of the flock and they sleep with like
- 1:10:50half their brain. So that way the other half can
- 1:10:52be like awake and alert and they talk about humans having that
- 1:10:56they call it. The first night effects, like
- 1:10:57the first night in a new place, you're less likely to be fully
- 1:11:03asleep. You're most likely like Kind of
- 1:11:07in a similar situation, like sleeping with half her, like,
- 1:11:10you're not fully asleep and that's why you can be more alert
- 1:11:12to every sound that happens. That's been, that's been me for
- 1:11:18a good chunk of time. When we first moved into this
- 1:11:21house, it's gotten a lot better recently, but for like a little
- 1:11:23bit I barely slept just because I was on high alert for every
- 1:11:28single little noise. Right?
- 1:11:30And so I think that But I also don't think it's a thing that is
- 1:11:35necessarily easy to control and if I just heard that smoking, we
- 1:11:41could stop dreams. Like maybe if my issue was that,
- 1:11:44I was having really bad dreams. I'd give it a shot, but like, if
- 1:11:48my issues that like, I'm literally going to be fucking
- 1:11:51murdered. I'm gonna take the coffee, you
- 1:11:55know what I mean? Why not both?
- 1:11:57Because yours is a solution that says, like smoke the weed, then
- 1:12:01go to sleep and you won't have dreams. - whooshing that says,
- 1:12:05don't go to sleep, you can use them together.
- 1:12:07Like you can smoke weed for whenever you do happen to fall
- 1:12:12asleep. But you can still take your no
- 1:12:16sweet pills and they're called, stay awake pills, stay awake
- 1:12:21pills. Yeah.
- 1:12:22And then you can I drink a coffee, I remind you that scene.
- 1:12:27I can remember when it happens, but her mom confiscates the
- 1:12:31coffee pot from her room and she's just like pulls another
- 1:12:34coffee pot. That's already on the burner.
- 1:12:39Yeah. How many coffee makers did they
- 1:12:43have before the divorce? Because March was able to keep
- 1:12:48it at least two? Yeah.
- 1:12:51I just love those. Like, who the hell The things
- 1:12:53about doing anything like that. But, you know, also, So, like
- 1:12:58the way Nancy. He's off it does she not have a
- 1:13:00preferred mug? Is she not just using the same
- 1:13:03mug over and over and over again?
- 1:13:05And that is so weird bugs up there.
- 1:13:07Maybe she's like us. Like we've got our mug
- 1:13:09collection, but we have our goats whose.
- 1:13:11Yeah, we do. But I don't know anyway after
- 1:13:17after they convinced march with very little effort that it was
- 1:13:21said just a bad dream. Nancy and Glenn run to go see
- 1:13:25rod and the officer at the desk. Wait, God damn it.
- 1:13:30Didn't she what are you saying? God damn it to me safely.
- 1:13:34No didn't you pull the hat out to after that?
- 1:13:39Know that is f at the Sleep Clinic.
- 1:13:42Okay. Yeah.
- 1:13:44So they they run to the police station and the guy at the desk
- 1:13:48is like idea and not fucking Nancy Thompson.
- 1:13:50Which makes you wonder how Lieutenant Thompson is talking
- 1:13:53about Nancy at the station? Because she's only been there.
- 1:13:55The one time after her best friend was murdered.
- 1:13:59I think, Cressida like their goddamn it Nancy's here.
- 1:14:02The way this guy talked, he made it sound like he's had multiple
- 1:14:06run-ins with her. He said that's the reason I went
- 1:14:09to third shift is because I don't have to deal with you
- 1:14:11anymore, but yeah. It's the middle of a school
- 1:14:15night and she's out there at the police office pleased that she's
- 1:14:18like, we need to see rod and he's like, no can do and she's
- 1:14:21like, make it happen and he's like, no.
- 1:14:23And then Lieutenant Thompson, who's apparently at the station
- 1:14:2724 hours a day, starting to see why.
- 1:14:29The divorce might have happened, like I think it's a combination
- 1:14:33between Marge's alcoholism and the Lieutenant's workaholism.
- 1:14:38Yeah, man. Yeah, he's like Nancy.
- 1:14:43You need to go home and go to bed and she's like, no Rob's
- 1:14:48gonna die. And he's like, no.
- 1:14:50He's Behind Bars. She's fine.
- 1:14:53And she's like, just go check on him and then they go and check
- 1:14:56on him. And if they hadn't had this
- 1:14:57whole argument, they would have seen like this.
- 1:14:59Like sneaking up this body and wrapping a noose around them,
- 1:15:03but they didn't see that instead.
- 1:15:04They just see him him dead. Yeah.
- 1:15:07They just think he hang them self.
- 1:15:09It's it's it's pretty bad. So after that, Nancy talks her
- 1:15:15parents that, they're all having the same dream about the same
- 1:15:20guy, and that she thinks it has something to do with it, and the
- 1:15:23parents share a knowing glance. And they're like, no, no, no
- 1:15:28dear and there. Just gas like the shit out of
- 1:15:30her. It's all in your head, you need
- 1:15:34some sleep and after Rob's funeral, which is weird as I
- 1:15:42showed rods funeral, but not Tina's.
- 1:15:46Fuck. Tina is probably what they said.
- 1:15:51No, you said that was convictions or I don't have
- 1:15:55anything against Tina. Oh well you said it like you
- 1:15:58did. I'm a good actor.
- 1:16:03So at the funeral Lieutenant Thompson, he's never given a
- 1:16:08first name. I wish we had a first.
- 1:16:09Can we give him a first name? So I can start calling him the
- 1:16:11lieutenant. Oh Larry Larry, he looks like a
- 1:16:18Larry. Okay.
- 1:16:19Larry, he's Larry for the rest of this episode.
- 1:16:21So Larry and Marge stop their bickering for a minute and
- 1:16:27they're just like, we're worried about Nancy, she's going to be
- 1:16:30the, she's going to be what? What makes this nice to each
- 1:16:32other. For a minute.
- 1:16:34We're worried about her and he's like I want her to see A
- 1:16:39therapist and Marge's, like, I've got something better and
- 1:16:42then they drive in silence for three hours until we get to the
- 1:16:45hospital, and it's a sleep study.
- 1:16:51It's like an answer is like, why wasn't I allowed to talk for
- 1:16:53three days? Yeah, Larry isn't even here.
- 1:16:56I know that's his go-to move is to continue conversations with
- 1:17:00different people in different rooms but she was channeling
- 1:17:03weary. I guess.
- 1:17:04I don't know. That's what got them married in
- 1:17:06the first place. Yeah, I lost that spark.
- 1:17:08Are along the way. So at some point they started
- 1:17:11starting in and in the conversations together in the
- 1:17:13same room and they need the magic was gone.
- 1:17:18But anyway, Nancy's doing a sleep study. and, Her hair comes
- 1:17:27great Ring, the fucking set like At first the guys like oh look
- 1:17:31her brain waves, they're normal and it's all good.
- 1:17:35Oh she's entering into REM and then all of a sudden shit goes
- 1:17:38crazy, they think she's having a seizure.
- 1:17:41The machine is freaking out, it's ripping up the paper,
- 1:17:44there's smoke. There's gunfire.
- 1:17:47Some of this isn't real. What was she drinking?
- 1:17:51Didn't come show us. She's dreaming.
- 1:17:53It didn't show. What?
- 1:17:54It didn't show what she was dreaming for once.
- 1:17:56We see it from like an outsider's perspective, right?
- 1:17:59Okay. Yeah, and everybody's running
- 1:18:02in, I'm sure they've called some kind of code because they're
- 1:18:04they don't know what's happening and they think something medical
- 1:18:07is an issue here. And she wakes up and she's got
- 1:18:11like cuts on her arms that are real deep.
- 1:18:14She's got like this streak of gray hair and she's got
- 1:18:17Frederick's hat. Oh yeah.
- 1:18:20Yeah. This is where she gets that.
- 1:18:22So the whole thing like in The sleep study people were like go
- 1:18:26home. We don't know what to tell you
- 1:18:32inconclusive because what they put in her chart.
- 1:18:35Yeah, yeah, let's just write that shit off.
- 1:18:37That didn't happen. So afterwards we see march on
- 1:18:45the phone and she's a hiding, some pocket behind herself.
- 1:18:49Again. It's in the morning.
- 1:18:50We know because she's in a bathrobe.
- 1:18:54Really, she's the type of person that bathrobes it all day.
- 1:18:57I think she liked probably puts on like her lularoe later in the
- 1:19:00afternoon so that was she can feel like she's wearing
- 1:19:02something but she's still on her athlete.
- 1:19:05Yeah. Nancy calls her out for being a
- 1:19:09fucking alcoholic. She was like, hey Mom.
- 1:19:11I'm dealing with some real shit and you're off and like your
- 1:19:13rawal. And she's like, maybe I should
- 1:19:16just get wasted with you. So I don't have to deal with any
- 1:19:18of this and we're just like, Nancy what?
- 1:19:21And then Nancy throws the vodka AA on the floor.
- 1:19:24She was Nancy. What know?
- 1:19:26I like how? Whenever she's it's getting too
- 1:19:29real and she's calling her out. And her mom, just look at me, he
- 1:19:33goes to the scrap. Like she's like, that's what
- 1:19:37happens when you're confronted with, like, too much information
- 1:19:39that hurts. You personally are like you're
- 1:19:41at your wits and you don't know what else to do.
- 1:19:44Your instinct, just as fucking sweat.
- 1:19:47And then she slaps her and I feel like they were both
- 1:19:50surprised by what happened there.
- 1:19:51But like, she's like, I don't know.
- 1:19:55I was I was backed against a corner, like I feel like that's
- 1:19:58like I just look like that has a reaction.
- 1:20:01I could go to just like you're getting called out by somebody
- 1:20:05at work or something. And, you know, something that
- 1:20:07hits you a bit too close to home.
- 1:20:08You're so good. So having somebody would do that
- 1:20:13makes sense when it goes in my office.
- 1:20:14Like, hey, I know this is last minute.
- 1:20:16I'm just gonna let this Primal, I don't know where he is, I
- 1:20:21guess. Then we see Nancy and Glenn
- 1:20:26talking on the scenic Bridge beaten eaten because he eats
- 1:20:31when he's stressed same. But he's talking about dreams
- 1:20:38skills and Nancy's talking about learning about booby traps, and
- 1:20:44then going goes, hey, speaking of boobies.
- 1:20:47Oh yeah, so they talked about it.
- 1:20:50And it's just important because it comes back later, because
- 1:20:53news, It does booby traps and the dream skill like the turning
- 1:20:57your back on. What is in the dream takes away
- 1:21:00the energy that's that's important for later.
- 1:21:02So just keep that in mind. She gets home after being on the
- 1:21:07scenic bridge and finds. There's bars on all of her
- 1:21:11windows. And I just want to know how much
- 1:21:13Marge had to pay. Not only to get those nice.
- 1:21:15Like, cast iron, like Gothic style bars on all of the
- 1:21:21windows, but to get it rush-ordered.
- 1:21:23You know, she did not install that shit herself.
- 1:21:25No, definitely, no. Yeah, I was thinking the same
- 1:21:27thing. How is it possible to get that
- 1:21:30so fast and there were so many fucking windows on that house.
- 1:21:33Yeah. It's how often expensive was
- 1:21:35this anyway? Like how was she planning this
- 1:21:40for a while? Because like I think it was just
- 1:21:43happen after this. What happened this?
- 1:21:46When shit turn You made me slap you.
- 1:21:55You can't leave the house. Anyway.
- 1:21:56Yeah, that's what happened cage. Match. okay, Marge says that
- 1:22:08it's for security and This is like, security from what she's
- 1:22:14like, not security from what from whom she did.
- 1:22:19Say, who am I wrote down here with my notes.
- 1:22:22Good for her. Yeah, getting fancy.
- 1:22:24Yeah, so she tells Nancy the story of Frederick.
- 1:22:30They're like there was a child murderer.
- 1:22:34And he gets caught and he goes to court.
- 1:22:38But there's like a loophole because something wasn't done.
- 1:22:41Right is a warrant was a sign properly, it wasn't sign
- 1:22:44properly. So he gets off and a bunch of
- 1:22:48the parents tracked him down and they burnt him alive in his
- 1:22:54Boiler Room. and, She pulls out her stash of vodka from next to
- 1:23:03the furnace. Does she have one next to the
- 1:23:05furnace do? That's it.
- 1:23:09You don't have to worry about Frederick because Mommy killed
- 1:23:13him and then she presents Nancy with his rap.
- 1:23:16Yeah. Gloves like what the fuck out of
- 1:23:23my hands? What the fuck are you doing?
- 1:23:26Keeping those? Why did you grab that?
- 1:23:29It makes me feel like like, Marge did most.
- 1:23:32Like she was The Mastermind behind it, because why else
- 1:23:34would she keep the gloves? I get the point that they were
- 1:23:37trying to move past it, but if you're trying to move past it,
- 1:23:40why would you keep something that would remind you of?
- 1:23:43So, and this is where my thesis kind of comes in.
- 1:23:46I think that this movie is a little bit, not directly, but
- 1:23:52like, we know, Wes Craven like loves meta-commentary right.
- 1:23:57I think, That this is what happens after a horror movie is
- 1:24:05over because you can see the whole child murderer, vigilante
- 1:24:09thing being kind of like a horror movie situation, you
- 1:24:11know, like you're an adult. You see all these children
- 1:24:13around you dying and the local law enforcement is incompetent.
- 1:24:17So you take action into your own hands, right?
- 1:24:20It's classic classic slasher movie type thing.
- 1:24:25And then you have to think like and I think what comes up in
- 1:24:28discussions after horror movies, like that is, what is the after
- 1:24:32effects for the character? What is their lives?
- 1:24:34Like what what kind of therapy are they doing?
- 1:24:37Are they actually living fulfilling lives?
- 1:24:39And we can see like Tina's parents, they split up the dad
- 1:24:43is just completely out of their lives and it sounds like the mom
- 1:24:46is like not present for Tina at all.
- 1:24:51We see Nancy's parents have split up.
- 1:24:55Her mom is an alcoholic. Her dad won't stay away from
- 1:24:57work. We don't know anything about
- 1:24:59rods parents, but we know he's kind of off the chain nobody,
- 1:25:03besides Nancy came to see him in jail, so they're clearly not
- 1:25:06involved with him. The only couple that still
- 1:25:08together is Glenn's parents and it seems like the dad is very,
- 1:25:12very paranoid and the mom is like, just a nervous, little
- 1:25:16ball of energy the whole time. So I think we are seeing these
- 1:25:19parents dealing with their own trauma, but it's not We're not
- 1:25:24focusing on their trauma directly, but we're seeing how,
- 1:25:28like it's this, it's almost like generational trauma that they're
- 1:25:32dealing with, which is what I think this story is doing
- 1:25:35anything, but generation generational.
- 1:25:37Trauma is so like, when something, if an older
- 1:25:42generation has experienced something and the after effects
- 1:25:45of that are still influencing future Generations.
- 1:25:50So even though maybe he isn't risk, Nancy didn't have the
- 1:25:55exact same experience that her parents did and she's not
- 1:25:58responding in the exact same way, she's still having after
- 1:26:01effects of that trauma. As a result of it, okay.
- 1:26:06And she's having to also not only is she dealing with like
- 1:26:09Frederick himself, but she's also having to deal with
- 1:26:12everything that came along with her parents response to what
- 1:26:15happened So, she's having a deal with her parents being split up,
- 1:26:19her dad being mostly absent and her mom in her way.
- 1:26:23Also being mostly absent So I think there's there's a lot of I
- 1:26:29think to me, I interpret it just knowing how Wes Craven is in
- 1:26:35general. I think it has a little bit of
- 1:26:38a, what happens after the horror movies over.
- 1:26:40What happens? Like, not even just immediately
- 1:26:44after, but decades down the road hike that take, I think that's
- 1:26:48pretty cool. Actually, if that was actually
- 1:26:50the case, then yeah, that would be really neat.
- 1:26:52The cool thing about movies is you can interpret them, however,
- 1:26:55you want. That's true.
- 1:26:56So it's been we find out that it's been seven days since Nancy
- 1:26:59slept, and we know this because she is called Glenn.
- 1:27:03She's trying to warn him about Frederick coming for him and her
- 1:27:09because she says, you know, once he gets me, he's going to get
- 1:27:11you to, and she's, he's like what?
- 1:27:16And when he's like, how long have you been awake?
- 1:27:18She says, seven days. Don't worry, I checked Guinness.
- 1:27:21The record is 11 days and that is accurate.
- 1:27:24It was accurate, as of 1964. And Has beat it since then, it
- 1:27:27was like something like 11 days and 17 minutes. 17 minutes.
- 1:27:31Feel like David Blaine's going to take that on, think so, but
- 1:27:37Glenn's dad is outside. And this is where he's drinking
- 1:27:40and being judgmental of Nancy's, mom, and Nancy, really mostly
- 1:27:45Nancy. Yeah, I love this because from
- 1:27:49the time when Nancy and Glenn have their conversation and she
- 1:27:54was like, I'm gonna try And do this thing at midnight, stay
- 1:27:58awake until midnight. I think it almost like it feels
- 1:28:02like time drags so slowly, which I feel like it's accurate for
- 1:28:08when you're really tired like that.
- 1:28:10And you're trying to stay awake kind of yeah, one of the things
- 1:28:14happen in this. A lot of things happened in a
- 1:28:16really short amount of time but I think that's kind of what the
- 1:28:19beauty it is. Your like oh sure, because I
- 1:28:22think part of it is because we're so used to movie time
- 1:28:24moving so much faster, right? Because See periods of days
- 1:28:28weeks, months and movies. And this was like it was just
- 1:28:32dragging so much and she's and we just and this is where we're
- 1:28:35just seeing like her trying to stay awake looking at the clock
- 1:28:40getting prepared. And this is where we see Glenn
- 1:28:43is listening to a record player and watching the TV at the same
- 1:28:47time and his mom comes in and he makes a joke about watching
- 1:28:50naked ladies. They have that kind of
- 1:28:52relationship, I guess. Good for them.
- 1:28:57The last thing that they get to do together is joke because glen
- 1:29:00falls asleep. He only had to stay awake for 15
- 1:29:03or 20 minutes but he falls asleep and he gets fucking
- 1:29:08sucked into his bed. And I I feel any, we needed.
- 1:29:15We need to talk about Frederick's.
- 1:29:17Call to Nancy. Oh yeah.
- 1:29:21Was that before or after its before?
- 1:29:23Okay. So Nancy suspect s falling
- 1:29:30asleep because he's done the ship before.
- 1:29:32So she tries to call to wake him up and Glen's dad is not fucking
- 1:29:35having it. So he leaves the phone off the
- 1:29:37hook and then she tries, all right, then Frederick calls her
- 1:29:42as like I'm your boyfriend now Nancy.
- 1:29:43And then it turns the phone into a tongue and that's creating
- 1:29:46goes. Yeah yeah that was also gross.
- 1:29:48What you just did? Yeah, so she tries to go down
- 1:29:54and run across the street because she knows what's up.
- 1:29:56Even if all the parents are like, no, you're wrong.
- 1:29:59And Marge is like drunk as a skunk on the couch.
- 1:30:01The door is locked from the inside with a key and she's
- 1:30:05like, I don't even know where the key is.
- 1:30:06And I'm like, Mars, what happens in the house catches on fire?
- 1:30:09This is a bad plan. It's just like, you're gonna get
- 1:30:12some sleep, even if it kills me. I'm like, I feel like you're
- 1:30:16gonna pass out before Nancy does March.
- 1:30:19Yeah, she's wasted. And then then Glenn gets pulled
- 1:30:25into the bed and just like a tour.
- 1:30:26Route of blood shoots up and like, makes an ocean of Blood on
- 1:30:31the ceiling. Another one that I was wondering
- 1:30:33how they pull this off. This is, I would say this is the
- 1:30:36best one, the best death of the movie.
- 1:30:39It like, it, it sticks in your brain and I feel like it doesn't
- 1:30:42even really look like blood but it just looks like a sea of red.
- 1:30:47Yeah, it's so yeah, it's so insane.
- 1:30:51See this is what I'm talking about.
- 1:30:53If you wanted to kill these people, he Why is he not doing
- 1:30:57this shit with Nancy? Because it would be a really
- 1:31:00fucking short movie Travis, stop being a buzzkill, not.
- 1:31:03If we had like all the other kids, You not want anybody to
- 1:31:07root for? Are you actually legitimately
- 1:31:10Frederick? I'm doing well, just stop
- 1:31:12fucking with her and, you know, just keep killing everybody and
- 1:31:15be like Final Destination. Where it's one at a time and
- 1:31:17yeah. But you still have a main
- 1:31:18character that you fall in Final Destination?
- 1:31:21Yeah. But you're waiting for his turn.
- 1:31:27That's why I'm staying with her. She would be like, fuck Quinn's
- 1:31:30dead? No, now it's my turn.
- 1:31:31I'm up next. I got to get this shit going.
- 1:31:34Well, that is basically what she goes.
- 1:31:35She's trying to get her dad to come to the house and 20 minutes
- 1:31:40and arrest him. And he's like, only halfway
- 1:31:43listening to her. I don't know who put the phone
- 1:31:45back on the hook at this point because she's talking to him on
- 1:31:48the phone. No, she's the own.
- 1:31:50And I'm from know, she's talking to him on the phone and she, and
- 1:31:56he's like, yeah, sweetie, get some sleep.
- 1:31:58Like, he's only listening to half of what she's saying and
- 1:32:02they probably, They probably plug the phone into call the
- 1:32:06cops. Yes, there's so many front of
- 1:32:09the house. Yeah well yeah I guess that
- 1:32:11makes sense makes sense. So somehow in 10 minutes she
- 1:32:17manages to set up. All these booby traps?
- 1:32:21Yeah, have a farewell conversation with her mom and
- 1:32:25took her mom into bed. And the talk that her mom gives
- 1:32:31her talks about how Nancy Is like good at facing things
- 1:32:35head-on. But sometimes you need to know
- 1:32:37when to just turn around and walk away which mirror is that
- 1:32:40conversation that she was having with Glenn earlier about the
- 1:32:44good dream skills and like turning your back on things so
- 1:32:46you don't give them energy anymore.
- 1:32:50And we see her do all of this in 10 minutes and then she falls
- 1:32:55asleep, Finds Frederick, and manages to be grabbing onto him
- 1:33:00when her alarm goes off. So, she pulls him out of the
- 1:33:02dream and she's like, you know, running through the house,
- 1:33:06setting off all these different traps and everything.
- 1:33:08And that's when she breaks out the front door and she shouting
- 1:33:10through the bars. And she's like, yeah, my dad.
- 1:33:13And like I was like, no, fuck you Nancy.
- 1:33:14I hate you now. See this point?
- 1:33:17Yeah, the house is on fire. She's like yeah.
- 1:33:19My dad, you asshole, and I was like, hell, yeah, Nancy.
- 1:33:22You know what I like about this Bay?
- 1:33:25Did the remainder of this whole thing mostly with Freddy being
- 1:33:30on fire and they kept the guy on fire throughout the whole thing.
- 1:33:34I mean, obviously not like in one shot but like it was pretty
- 1:33:38cool. I mean, you can tell it's
- 1:33:40somebody in a fire suit because it's like Freddy swelled up a
- 1:33:45little bit, but it's kind of cool.
- 1:33:48I you got Then actually going full on fire especially I'm
- 1:33:52trying to think how it would have went with them because they
- 1:33:56were a I don't know if they did this in a set or what but like
- 1:34:01the spacewalk really tie. So this is like a big fire just
- 1:34:07wandering around the whole home dangerous shit.
- 1:34:10That shit could have been dangerous.
- 1:34:13Yeah it like so all this like there's all kinds of traps going
- 1:34:17off like there's actual like Gunshot happening.
- 1:34:20Different fires lighting my bomb exploding.
- 1:34:24It's my favorite. It'd be good.
- 1:34:25Yeah, there's so much stuff happening and the other cop this
- 1:34:29whole time is like hearing this Ruckus.
- 1:34:31Saying these explosions seeing these fires.
- 1:34:33It's like, gee golly. I wonder if I should get Larry.
- 1:34:36Yeah, this is so fucking stupid. But eventually the cops do come
- 1:34:41over and dance. He's like thank God, finally,
- 1:34:44and then she can't find Frederick but she does find some
- 1:34:47fiery Footprints which I think is also So a really cool effect
- 1:34:50because that's not how the fireworks but it's like it's
- 1:34:52just cool to see. Yeah, it was cool.
- 1:34:54Yeah. And of course because the cops
- 1:34:58are incompetent and Nancy isn't Frederick has jumped on top of
- 1:35:02Marge and burns smothered her to death.
- 1:35:07Um, so what the hell happens here, because her mom is I think
- 1:35:13she's like a skull at this point and then suddenly the bed opens
- 1:35:16up and then she slowly descends into the bed.
- 1:35:19That's what happens. What the fuck why this is in
- 1:35:24reality at this point, I think bringing Friday out of the dream
- 1:35:27had like some metaphysical Realm.
- 1:35:30Vacations. That's the way I interpret it
- 1:35:35and also you can't convince me that Nancy was actually fully
- 1:35:39awake for all of this. I think it's meant to be
- 1:35:44ambiguous. I don't know what happens.
- 1:35:45Yeah, don't know what happened because the following scene is
- 1:35:48obviously a dream. What the hell?
- 1:35:50Yeah, so after after all this, you know Larry Larry sees it and
- 1:35:58you know, Nancy's just like, okay, just give me a second and
- 1:36:02Larry being the Stellar father. He is like, yeah.
- 1:36:05I'll let you stay in here with the bed where your mother's
- 1:36:09corpse has been absorbed. But that's that's that's
- 1:36:13logical. You're not in shock, it's fine.
- 1:36:17But Nancy turns around and she's just like I take back all the
- 1:36:20energy I gave you like is like literally turning her back on
- 1:36:26him and then we get some really really gnarly.
- 1:36:33Early Edition Windows video editor effects across the
- 1:36:39screen. Yeah.
- 1:36:41It's not the best effects but we get that we get the gist.
- 1:36:45Is that Freddie's energy has? Supposedly been taken away?
- 1:36:48It's like it here. Yeah.
- 1:36:50It's basically. Oh, you can just don't believe
- 1:36:52it anymore. Whatever.
- 1:36:54Yeah. There's there's a lot of
- 1:36:55parallels with this in it that I never really realized before.
- 1:36:58Yeah, we were talking about it but Yeah, so then we have like a
- 1:37:02hard cut to like an overly bright morning and it seems
- 1:37:10like. All right, I'm off to school and
- 1:37:11her mom's like, okay, that's great.
- 1:37:13Have a good day. I'm done drinking.
- 1:37:15Like yeah. Like it's all like very uncanny.
- 1:37:21Yeah. And Nancy's like oh cool.
- 1:37:26My friends are so alive and she goes and she gets in this
- 1:37:28convertible and they're like haha it's a good time and then
- 1:37:31the top slams over and they're like whoa!
- 1:37:33What? A red and green stripe.
- 1:37:34Yeah it's red and green stripes and it just keeps slamming and
- 1:37:36they're freaking out in the car speeds off down the street and
- 1:37:39Marge is just like in a law. I think she gave up the drinking
- 1:37:42for like a Xanax because she's like a way to calm in the front
- 1:37:45portion, just like that's nice and then a blow-up doll gets
- 1:37:49pulled to the front door. I want to people complain about
- 1:37:54the bowl of dog part. I'm a fan personally because
- 1:37:59this goes into it would have been just weird if like if she
- 1:38:04was just a boy lovable doll the entire time.
- 1:38:08Yeah, well, you don't need to have like the mouth, you know,
- 1:38:11just have it be like an inflatable version of her just
- 1:38:15like that little dolls are for, right.
- 1:38:17Yeah. Fucking make.
- 1:38:20It just be like an inflatable version of her but the thing is,
- 1:38:24um, stuff like that, I guess sudden changed her being
- 1:38:28inflatable. It kind of adds a little bit of
- 1:38:33Like a surrealism to it. I guess somebody turns into
- 1:38:36something completely different. You are the one that has been
- 1:38:39complaining about this type of stuff, for the entire goddamn
- 1:38:42movie, Travis this right here, I'm not complaining about this,
- 1:38:45you got so mad about. Frederick's arms being so long
- 1:38:49earlier. Yeah.
- 1:38:51But that was stupid. I don't like it.
- 1:38:55Oh, so when you don't like it, it's stupid.
- 1:38:57Yeah, that's exactly right. Yeah, I like this, I want people
- 1:39:01don't like this part, but I like it because it's kind of weird.
- 1:39:04No, no kind of throws you off. Just seeing her being like all
- 1:39:08inflatable, just being drug through the window.
- 1:39:10I know that they did it just for like, you know, the scene and it
- 1:39:12was intentionally done like that.
- 1:39:14But, you know, In the end, I liked it, I liked it, I liked
- 1:39:18it. So, it's been a long time since
- 1:39:20I've watched the series all the way through.
- 1:39:23I With with franchises I am definitely a person that all
- 1:39:30jump around depending on what mood I'm in watching them at
- 1:39:35different points throughout the series.
- 1:39:36And so this is part of the reason this podcast is
- 1:39:39interesting because it's the first time that I'm really going
- 1:39:42through Friday, the 13th in The Nightmare on Elm Street movies
- 1:39:45in order and even then Travis and I have had wigs were even
- 1:39:49like hey do you want to watch Freddy vs.
- 1:39:50Jason we did that like a month ago so we're still kind of doing
- 1:39:54that a little bit. Bit.
- 1:39:55Yeah. But it's going to be really
- 1:39:58interesting because I know the other probably the most recent
- 1:40:02Nightmare on Elm Street before. This one was A New Nightmare.
- 1:40:06The roommate. No.
- 1:40:08A New Nightmare heat. Okay.
- 1:40:10Well, the Remake was more recent but yeah, the new night blocked
- 1:40:14out watching the remake Yeah, so and that canonical e.
- 1:40:21Heather langenkamp is like actually still alive, and then
- 1:40:25she's experiencing it. So, I'm just, I'm in, like, I
- 1:40:29think they were trying to reboot the movie in it.
- 1:40:33Is that correct? She returns and three.
- 1:40:36Yeah, no. She returns in a later when I'm
- 1:40:38trying to think of new nightmare with the plot is, your nightmare
- 1:40:40is a meta one where they play a version of themselves.
- 1:40:43The big, the cat is Heather, langenkamp is like talking
- 1:40:46about. By rebooting the series.
- 1:40:48Yeah. So I know like within the Canon
- 1:40:54of Nightmare on Elm Street. Nancy's not officially dead.
- 1:40:58Yeah. But I just can't remember how
- 1:41:00they get out of it. So I'm going to be interested to
- 1:41:03see. Oh yeah.
- 1:41:05You don't really see her die. Did you just see?
- 1:41:08Yeah. But the implication is basically
- 1:41:09that she's dead. Yeah.
- 1:41:10Also like most, like first entries of a horror franchise,
- 1:41:16they're meant to be Be one-offs. So, if it would have ended like
- 1:41:21that would have been cool. Because, ya know, it's great
- 1:41:24like, as a standalone film. It's honestly like it, it's
- 1:41:28amazing. It's good, it's good.
- 1:41:32It's a good movie but I wouldn't, you know.
- 1:41:34I don't I don't like as much as other people, well, after we've
- 1:41:40talked about it, how are you feeling?
- 1:41:44I don't know. I don't really.
- 1:41:48My opinion hasn't really changed on Freddy you haven't really
- 1:41:50convinced me otherwise but it's not just Freddy it's the whole
- 1:41:54fucking movie Man the movie, the rest of the movies.
- 1:41:57Good. So okay I won't have Freddy drag
- 1:42:01it down four points so I'll I'll make it a 7 but yeah I mean I
- 1:42:10don't know I just don't really see Freddy as a good / for
- 1:42:15villain. No, no, I just he's fine.
- 1:42:20He's just not creepy to me and I understand that he's creepy to a
- 1:42:24lot of other people, but he just doesn't really take it for me.
- 1:42:28I don't know. I don't know how to describe it
- 1:42:31on paper. He's sounds like something that
- 1:42:35would really work for me, but I think it's just the way that
- 1:42:38they executed in a lot of these movies.
- 1:42:40You don't really. I wish that he had more surreal
- 1:42:46shit like fuck with them more and the dreams like some of the
- 1:42:51worst that he's guy here is like him like giving himself long
- 1:42:56arms and I don't know, he cuts his chest open and green pus and
- 1:43:02maggots pour out at one point, he cut his fingers off, he
- 1:43:06becomes a car, I would have maybe preferred he is into it a
- 1:43:11little bit more because he starts right off.
- 1:43:14The bag is like look at these fucking things and he cuts
- 1:43:18himself open and then he's like yeah look at my fucking fingers,
- 1:43:22you know maybe let's ease into it a little bit and Give me a
- 1:43:27reason. I have that little jarring
- 1:43:31experience of being like, whoa, what the fuck is happening here?
- 1:43:34Like I thought she was good. But no no and say he's just like
- 1:43:38yeah I'm all burnt and look at this scary.
- 1:43:44But it's not. Well, the more we talked about
- 1:43:48it, the more I realized that, I undersold it the beginning
- 1:43:50because it's such a fucking great were movie.
- 1:43:53It's tense. It's got amazing.
- 1:43:55We didn't talk about the music, but the music is amazing.
- 1:43:59It's okay. I love it.
- 1:44:02I think it's really good. I wouldn't rank it up there with
- 1:44:06the most iconic soundtracks. Well, there's a lot of iconic.
- 1:44:10Soundtracks Affair. Yeah.
- 1:44:11But I think, I think that's part of what does it for me is?
- 1:44:13I don't always think about because we think about the
- 1:44:15pontiff has come, that's more iconic, we think about that but
- 1:44:20that's not. Music.
- 1:44:22And then when we are watching it every time I heard that little
- 1:44:25tent identity, I was like oh this is like because it's like
- 1:44:30slightly dreamy but it's also slightly Sinister and I think
- 1:44:33it's just it fits the movie really well.
- 1:44:35See every time I heard that I'm like, yeah, it doesn't really
- 1:44:38stick out other classics. Music is really important for
- 1:44:45these types of movies too. I'm not saying it was a bad
- 1:44:48soundtrack, it's good, but you know, it doesn't doesn't stand
- 1:44:52the test of time for me. Anyway, missing, I feel like
- 1:44:58there's so many classic moments in this so much classic imagery.
- 1:45:02So many classic ideas and I think I need to give it a nine
- 1:45:06point five. I'm glad you didn't do its in
- 1:45:10there. You're going to bump it up way
- 1:45:11to form 10. Just because there were a couple
- 1:45:14of effects that were distracting to me.
- 1:45:16Yeah. Like what I've talked about
- 1:45:19them? Sorry.
- 1:45:22I forgot which ones you said, like Tina's show their her
- 1:45:25chest. Yeah, chest.
- 1:45:27And that was really, the big one for me, was the chest and then
- 1:45:31the blow-up doll the end. You don't like it.
- 1:45:34I don't like it. No, it's our new average is
- 1:45:38eight point two five. Okay, .25, and that's I think
- 1:45:42that's fair. So tell you really didn't do
- 1:45:47much. She just barked at the TV dogs,
- 1:45:49so the beginning of this and then she slept the rest of the
- 1:45:51time. So he says that dog actors.
- 1:45:54I think, yeah between the dog actors and the fact that she
- 1:45:57went fully committed to the bit of it, being a Dream movie, I'm
- 1:46:03gonna see, tell you, it gives us a seven.
- 1:46:05Yeah, she had really active dreams during this.
- 1:46:07She was kind of doing what Nancy did when she was getting.
- 1:46:10In her brain scanned, just like flu.
- 1:46:15Touching all over the place. All right, so with our series,
- 1:46:20we're not doing changes or sequels.
- 1:46:24With this know why. We haven't been doing it was
- 1:46:28Friday the 13th either, right? But I'm gonna ask, who did you
- 1:46:31relate to the most I related to I don't know, man.
- 1:46:46I waited too. Quinn.
- 1:46:50Because I like to watch TV and go to sleep or what you can
- 1:46:54think is, I like to watch naked ladies.
- 1:46:58It's a very small thing that he does in this.
- 1:47:00He watches TV and falls asleep like last thing he says yeah.
- 1:47:07No. I don't know.
- 1:47:10Yeah, that's, that's my thing. Well, who's usually too?
- 1:47:16Hmm. Probably Tina.
- 1:47:24Why? It's cuz I'm I feel like if I
- 1:47:27was having like I've had a lot of bad dreams in my life, that I
- 1:47:30think. If I was having dreams that are
- 1:47:31like, actually becoming like real, I would die right away.
- 1:47:36I don't think I would last like I think I would just die before
- 1:47:39anybody had a chance to figure out what was going on.
- 1:47:42You know what I mean? Yeah, so okay, that's what it
- 1:47:47is, okay. So, thank you guys for sticking

- 1:49:02A successful man. And we will be having our like
- 1:49:09I'm hoping that we're posting this before May 20th.
- 1:49:14That's my goal is to post this earlier in the week.
- 1:49:17Are you leaving this done? Yes.
- 1:49:19Okay. So I'm hoping and that that
- 1:49:22means that our next like free episode on Spotify, Apple
- 1:49:27podcasts where Koch's or whatever all of that will be on
- 1:49:32the 20th. And it will be Friday.
- 1:49:34The 13th Part 5, a new beginning.
- 1:49:37That's the hope, that's the goal, that's the dream.
- 1:49:40If not, then we will definitely have it posted before the 27th
- 1:49:44where we will be talking about 22.
- 1:49:47And I don't know when we're going to do our next patreon
- 1:49:50episode will for sure have a Nightmare on Elm Street in June
- 1:49:54and we're going to potentially look at other like minisodes so
- 1:49:59I feel like we need to crank these out.
- 1:50:01We're gonna have one month. Yeah.
- 1:50:02Once we once we get to a point where we can like record couple
- 1:50:06we just we Fell behind with the move and I'm really not trying
- 1:50:09to use that as an excuse. It's just like the actual
- 1:50:12reality of the situation, it moving is a bitch and we got
- 1:50:16really far ahead on our recordings before we moved and
- 1:50:19then immediately went back to square a 0.
- 1:50:21So once we get ahead will be able to start doing some
- 1:50:24minisodes and it'll be good again.
- 1:50:25Yeah, so that's it for now. And we appreciate you guys And
- 1:50:32thanks. Thanks, bye.
