- 0:16Speaker 2: Jamie mckaye, host of the Countries with Us, Hello Jamie, Hello, Heather,
- 0:20Speaker 2: welcome back, Thank you mate. What's in rubberbanks? Let us report?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Then?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Well it's mate, Well it's a report of or a
- 0:27Speaker 2: llegu should I say, of two halves. Not surprising. Really
- 0:30Speaker 2: look the income side of it, and they've looked at dairy,
- 0:33Speaker 2: beef and sheep meat now beef and sheep meat, beef
- 0:36Speaker 2: and lamb effectively, and a bit of mutt and thrown
- 0:38Speaker 2: and is looking really good, just off reduced global supply.
- 0:43Speaker 2: And when we look at the likes of beef, we
- 0:45Speaker 2: have no tariffs on that going into the very important
- 0:49Speaker 2: US market, our biggest read and beat market. Now for
- 0:52Speaker 2: the key we fruit dairy is a bit more interesting.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We've had a couple of good positive GDTs after about
- 0:59Speaker 2: three bad or negative ones to start the new dairy season.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Our production in June was at record highs, but that's
- 1:07Speaker 2: sort of like when to milking, so it's pretty small numbers.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It looks like we could break another record for annual
- 1:14Speaker 2: production providing the super al Nino doesn't come and ruin
- 1:18Speaker 2: the party. So that's all looking good. What's not so
- 1:21Speaker 2: flash as the farm input side of the ledger fertilizers
- 1:25Speaker 2: a bit of a shaker off. What's happening in the
- 1:27Speaker 2: Middle East fuels very much the same. It's up and down.
- 1:31Speaker 2: This report was written before Trump had made a few
- 1:35Speaker 2: soothing noises in recent days, but fuel and fertilizer are
- 1:38Speaker 2: still killers for farmers. And the other thing it looks
- 1:41Speaker 2: at in the reporters interst rates and exchange rates. So
- 1:44Speaker 2: what Rabobank's saying either, and this applies to everyone, not
- 1:47Speaker 2: just farmers. The OCR obviously went two and a half
- 1:50Speaker 2: percent in July. There economists are picking further rate hikes
- 1:56Speaker 2: in September, December, and February that would bring our OCR
- 2:01Speaker 2: to three point two five percent. And off the back
- 2:04Speaker 2: of those ra higher interest rates, our dollars rallied a bit,
- 2:08Speaker 2: trading at just under sixty or something at the moment.
- 2:11Speaker 2: And listen, tell me what farmers think of those new
- 2:13Speaker 2: secondary school subjects. Well, I don't know. I haven't spoken
- 2:17Speaker 2: directly to a farmer, but I read Federated Farmers press
- 2:20Speaker 2: release and I guess they speak on behalf of Farmers. Heather, look,
- 2:24Speaker 2: I think it's really positive there. They're encouraging industry leads
- 2:28Speaker 2: secondary school subjects. Federated Farmers say it's a major one.
- 2:33Speaker 2: The Meat and Wool chair Richard Dawkins, or Federated Farmer's
- 2:37Speaker 2: spokesperson on this, Richard Dawkins says, this is the kind
- 2:40Speaker 2: of practical industry lead approach and exactly what the sector
- 2:43Speaker 2: had in mind when t PUKINGA was disestablished. So supporting
- 2:49Speaker 2: young farmers is one of Federated Farmers policy priorities for
- 2:53Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. Incidentally, they have another couple that will
- 2:57Speaker 2: help young farmers reviewing the Sheer Milking Agreements Act and
- 3:01Speaker 2: including agricultural and horticultural science within the year zero to
- 3:08Speaker 2: tear in science curriculum, and I say it should be
- 3:10Speaker 2: in there.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah, fair point.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Hey, Jamie, thank you was always as lovely to talk
- 3:13Speaker 2: to you.
