- 0:10Welcome back to the Love Drive Podcast.
- 0:13My name is Sean Galanos. I am your host.
- 0:15I am a Love coach. I am very, very excited to be
- 0:19back. Gosh, where do I start?
- 0:21OK, 12 years ago I was driving a taxi in San Francisco.
- 0:28And driving a taxi is kind of fun until it gets really boring.
- 0:31And my friend said, hey, you should record your conversations
- 0:33with your passengers. And so I did.
- 0:36I put cameras, lights, microphones in the taxi and I
- 0:40called it the Love Drive. And I interviewed my passengers
- 0:43about sex, love and dating. That is where the name The Love
- 0:47Drive came from. And this idea started back in
- 0:502014. Since then, I've been doing some
- 0:53version of like Love coaching. I got certified as a coach at
- 0:58the Concordia University in Montreal.
- 1:00I have a background in communication, in sexual
- 1:04education, in Rape Crisis counseling.
- 1:07And along the years I have hosted groups, retreats, I've
- 1:11taught courses, I've coached individuals and couples on all
- 1:16things love. And why?
- 1:19Why do I do this? I think I've always had sort of
- 1:24like a bottomless well of passion for love, sex,
- 1:28relationships and dating. I also think that I've actually
- 1:31kind of struggled quite a bit in this department my whole life.
- 1:37And so anything that can be a challenge or a struggle can also
- 1:42become a strength if you give enough attention to it.
- 1:46And so that's who I am and that's why I'm doing this thing.
- 1:50The Love Drive was a podcast. It was a podcast that I stopped
- 1:55several years ago. And then I started a new podcast
- 1:57with the angry therapist John Kim.
- 1:59And then now I'm relaunching the podcast.
- 2:02Why? Because Because I love having
- 2:08conversations with interesting people about sex, love, and
- 2:11dating. Some of these conversations are
- 2:13going to be with experts. Some of them are going to be
- 2:15with just like regular people, couples, singles, folks kind of
- 2:19going through it. And then some of these
- 2:21conversations are just going to be me, are just going to be like
- 2:25musings on love. OK, hold on.
- 2:27Let me read you the description of the podcast because I wrote
- 2:31this down and I think it's important because I want you to
- 2:33know what is this podcast, OK? The Love Drive is a no nonsense
- 2:37podcast. It's funny, no nonsense.
- 2:40There will be nonsense, but the advice that I give is often no
- 2:44nonsense. It's not sugar coated.
- 2:46So it's a no nonsense podcast on sex, love, relationships and
- 2:50dating for hopeful romantics, love cynics and everyone
- 2:55navigating modern connections. Hosted by me, Sean Galanos, your
- 3:00local love coach. OK, hopeful romantics.
- 3:04I don't like the term hopeless romantic.
- 3:06Why can't we have a little bit of hope?
- 3:08Why are we hopeless if we are romantic?
- 3:11Just because we're struggling or things aren't going our way or
- 3:14it feels like we're sort of like beating our head against the
- 3:18wall, it doesn't mean that we're hopeless.
- 3:19It just means that, like, things are sometimes hard, harder for
- 3:23some of us than others. There are those people that have
- 3:26just like a fairy tale romance, love affair relationship and I'm
- 3:31like so happy for those people. That has not really been my
- 3:36experience. And if it hasn't been your
- 3:38experience, then maybe you can find a home here as well.
- 3:41OK, love cynics. What does that mean?
- 3:45People who are like kind of beaten down by love, who are a
- 3:48little cynical, but yet still yearn like your heart still
- 3:53yearns to be seen to be known by another.
- 3:57You still feel desiring of connection of another, of like
- 4:05of skin of love, of connection. Like you're cynical because
- 4:11you've kind of been through the wringer, but you still yearn,
- 4:13right? And then anybody who's just like
- 4:16navigating what some people might describe as the dumpster
- 4:20fire that is modern dating or modern relating, I don't think
- 4:24it's a dumpster fire. I think that we are all wounded
- 4:28inner children coming to the table with pain and hurt and
- 4:35stories. And we are doing our best.
- 4:38And some of us are doing way better than others.
- 4:40And some of us are struggling way more than others, depending
- 4:43on where you are in your life. But we are inner children who
- 4:46who are yearning for connection and love and to be seen and to
- 4:51be known and to be heard and to play and to connect.
- 4:56I also wrote here something else I wrote.
- 4:58I aim to create a space for raw, radically honest conversations
- 5:02about desire, sexuality and intimacy and what it takes to
- 5:06build lasting relationships. I hope to bring vulnerability,
- 5:10humor, and curiosity to even the most taboo topics.
- 5:16And also that perhaps this podcast becomes an antidote or
- 5:20an alternative to the toxic red pill culture.
- 5:26The like toxic masculinity manosphere podcast bro thing
- 5:31that's happening out there where I can maybe bring a voice that
- 5:35models emotional intelligence, healthy masculinity, and playful
- 5:39banter. Not saying that I am a healthy
- 5:42version of masculinity, like I have blind spots, I struggle, I
- 5:47am working on stuff, I have zones of development that I'm
- 5:50currently working on. But perhaps this serves as an
- 5:54alternative to what is out there.
- 5:58The love drive podcast. I want it to be like multi
- 6:02format. I want to have, yes, guest
- 6:05interviews, experts, thought leaders, but also conversations
- 6:09with regular people, with friends, with couples, with
- 6:13folks who are kind of going through it.
- 6:15I want feel good stories. I want Q&A where you share with
- 6:20me your questions. I do love Q&A.
- 6:24I'm sort of a big Q&A freak. And then also solo episodes
- 6:29where I sort of check in, share with you what's going on with
- 6:32me. Maybe we look at like love in
- 6:34the news, love, sex and dating in the news.
- 6:37I don't think I'll ever be like hey let me let me recap what
- 6:42happened on Love is Blind. I don't think that's ever really
- 6:46going to be my strength, but maybe it is, who knows.
- 6:49Anyways, if you're here for multi varietal segments on sex,
- 6:55love and dating then you're in the right place.
- 6:57I also want the love drive to be a place where we can talk about
- 7:02life, not just love, but ultimately, like, life is love
- 7:08and love is life. And I know that sounds so
- 7:10cheesy, but I think the deep down inside you agree that it's
- 7:16all kind of love. Yeah.
- 7:18I mean, basically, this show doesn't exist without you.
- 7:24So I need your questions. I need your concerns, your
- 7:29comments, your feedback, your criticism.
- 7:33I need it all and I want it in a voicemail.
- 7:37So you can leave me a voicemail at 415-494-9559.
- 7:44That's 415-494-9559. You could leave a voicemail.
- 7:50You can leave a text message. You can e-mail me at
- 7:54podcast@thelovedrive.com. You can record a voice memo and
- 8:00send it to that same e-mail. You can send me a love letter, a
- 8:04hate letter. You can send me whatever you
- 8:07want at either podcast at the Love dr.com or by leaving a
- 8:11voicemail at 415-494-9559. OK.
- 8:16If you're listening on Spotify or watching on Spotify or
- 8:20YouTube, please leave a comment. I love comments.
- 8:23I I read all of them. It helps me understand what's
- 8:26landing for you. If you're enjoying the show,
- 8:30then leave a review wherever you listen.
- 8:32It really makes a huge difference.
- 8:34But please leave comments. I love comments.
- 8:36I love reading them. It's like my dirty little
- 8:40secret. It's like a tasty little snack.
- 8:42It's a little dopamine morsel and I and I thank you for all of
- 8:47your comments. OK, what else?
- 8:49I mean, that's it. I'm pumped.
- 8:50I'm like, I'm, I don't know if I'm over caffeinated, but I'm
- 8:54also very, very, very excited to be back.
- 8:59I'm going to be honest with you, I'm also a little scared.
- 9:02I'm a little scared and I think that it's good to be scared.
- 9:06I think that fear, unless it's a Saber toothed tiger, which for
- 9:10the most part in our culture, it's not.
- 9:13There's something worth exploring when there is fear,
- 9:18right? Like fear can sometimes, unless
- 9:20we're talking about like keeping yourself safe, like legitimately
- 9:24safe from like attack or harm. Fear is interesting because it,
- 9:29it might illustrate where there's like juice, where
- 9:33there's like something at stake, where there's risk.
- 9:37And I'll be honest with you, I'm feeling a little scared.
- 9:39I'm feeling a little scared. And I think that it's worth it
- 9:44for me to explore that fear, but also to walk through it.
- 9:47So I am feeling a little trepidation about relaunching
- 9:51the podcast. For some reason, I feel like the
- 9:53stakes are higher than they were a couple years ago.
- 9:56I don't know why. I'm happy to explore that along
- 9:59the way. I'm happy you explore a lot of
- 10:01stuff. So while there's fear, there's
- 10:03also genuine like Glee and excitement.
- 10:06Like I'm legitimately gleeful at relaunching this podcast.
- 10:11I also want to thank you if you're a long time listener,
- 10:15first time caller. Thank you for your continued
- 10:17support. If you're new here and someone
- 10:19was like, hey, you should check out this podcast.
- 10:21Welcome. You're super, super welcome
- 10:23here. I'm excited for what hopefully
- 10:26we will build together. Like I know that sounds kind of
- 10:29weird. Like Sean, you're not, we're not
- 10:30building this together, but like legitimately yes, right.
- 10:33Like without you, what is this? Nothing, it's just me talking.
- 10:37But with you, we can maybe create the kind of podcast that
- 10:41like feels good, that is helpful, that helps to demystify
- 10:47and destigmify, stigmify. I don't think that's a word.
- 10:52But anyways, we'll go with it. You know what I'm trying to say?
- 10:55Love, sexuality, intimacy, emotional availability,
- 10:59vulnerability, all that stuff. The juicy, juicy, juicy stuff
- 11:05that makes up love and relationships.
- 11:07The reality is like, oh, I'm going to share with you what the
- 11:11reality is. We are built for connection.
- 11:14We're built for community, we're built for closeness, and
- 11:18sometimes that shit is not easy. Oftentimes it's not that easy.
- 11:25I would like for this to be a space for us to explore all of
- 11:28that together. So thank you for being here.
- 11:31You mean the world to me. I know that sounds weird to say,
- 11:33but you do mean the world to me. Your support, your feedback,
- 11:38your presence, it's all very, very welcome.
- 11:42I'm also so pumped to announce that our first guest interview
- 11:46is with none other than Dan Savage, American author, advice
- 11:50columnist, podcast host, and someone that I've been a huge,
- 11:53huge fan of for decades. In fact, I used to call myself
- 11:57the younger, straighter Dan Savage, and he got a kick out of
- 12:00that. We talked about why people are
- 12:02going crazy for heated rivalry, why more straight men should
- 12:06hook up with dudes just to have the experience, how my mom found
- 12:11out that I downloaded Grinder, and the importance of
- 12:16reciprocity in sexual relationships.
- 12:20This is an incredible interview. I'm so so so grateful for his
- 12:26presence and his wisdom. And that airs on Thursday.
- 12:30So enjoy, thank you and have a beautiful week.
