- 2:27Speaker 5: Good morning, good to be back.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Thank you for being here this morning. Man, we got
- 2:31Speaker 3: let's talk about here. I'm looking at the event that
- 2:34Speaker 3: you have over Saturday. You know, I think the last
- 2:38Speaker 3: time you and I were talking, the last time you're
- 2:40Speaker 3: here was push your Christmas pictures that you do with right.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Just before Christmas.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And now it's Valentine's always something over at Greens Feed
- 2:47Speaker 3: and Seed, which is at three fourteen Piedmont Road here
- 2:50Speaker 3: in Charleston.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Tell us about this event, Well, it's it's it's for
- 2:53Speaker 5: Valentine's and it's called a fundraiser. We're trying to raise
- 2:56Speaker 5: money again for the for the rescue. We're gonna have
- 3:01Speaker 5: a professional photographer there again. They're gonna have but two
- 3:05Speaker 5: five by seven photographs. They're about fourteen dollars and it's
- 3:09Speaker 5: for mostly for pets. Uh, we'll take a picture of
- 3:12Speaker 5: the pet. You can be in the picture if you want,
- 3:14Speaker 5: and uh, we'll give it to you and you also
- 3:18Speaker 5: get the digital copy also, and we're gonna have some
- 3:20Speaker 5: baked goods there so you can purchase those. They're for animals,
- 3:24Speaker 5: of course. Their doggy biscuits are cat and cat basks,
- 3:27Speaker 5: not the for the humans.
- 3:28Speaker 3: What you're saying, I mean you can eat them if
- 3:29Speaker 3: you want. They're okay, Hell, you wouldn't advise that, but
- 3:32Speaker 3: go ahead.
- 3:33Speaker 5: But uh, we're also going to have some special furry
- 3:37Speaker 5: guests that are gonna be there. It's gonna be a surprise,
- 3:43Speaker 5: so they'll be there so you can check them out.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Okay, and you got me intrigued on that.
- 3:49Speaker 5: We're gonna they're gonna be there in a little plate pen. Okay,
- 3:52Speaker 5: all right, you can see them and the things start
- 3:54Speaker 5: at what time it starts, Addie, at the level of
- 3:57Speaker 5: an until three pm. Three pm, the same place we
- 4:00Speaker 5: had the photo shoot for Christmas, exact same place. And
- 4:03Speaker 5: you can also drop off donations, supplies or cash because
- 4:08Speaker 5: we are a five oh one C three nonprofit organization
- 4:11Speaker 5: and if you need a tax receipt for your tax deduction,
- 4:14Speaker 5: we'll provide that. Let's talk about.
- 4:17Speaker 3: The popularity of doing these photo shoots for Christmas and
- 4:20Speaker 3: for Valentine's. I've seen people have done them for their
- 4:23Speaker 3: pets that couldn't go on vacation with them. They've done
- 4:25Speaker 3: seen groups that have done like beach photos or vacation
- 4:28Speaker 3: back to school photos for pets and things that this.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Has really become a big, big deal. It really is.
- 4:33Speaker 5: For Christmas, a lot of people took the picture of
- 4:36Speaker 5: their animals and made they're on Christmas card. And as
- 4:40Speaker 5: a matter of fact, the very first pet that showed
- 4:42Speaker 5: up for Christmas was a goat. A goat. It was
- 4:45Speaker 5: a goat. It was hilarious. Okay, all right, so now
- 4:47Speaker 5: how hard.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Is it to get a goat to post for the picture?
- 4:50Speaker 5: This was a pretty tame goat. I didn't sit on
- 4:52Speaker 5: the lap, okay, kind of stood, but it was really
- 4:55Speaker 5: a pretty tame goat. It was really domesticated. It was
- 4:57Speaker 5: a lot of fun.
- 4:58Speaker 3: And when you think about these things, you do think
- 4:59Speaker 3: of obviously dog dogs, come to mind. You know, I'm
- 5:02Speaker 3: a cat guy, and so cats are can be a
- 5:06Speaker 3: little bit difficult that time.
- 5:07Speaker 2: All of them.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Ours are actually pretty good. But exotic pets are welcome.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I mean, go absolute snakes. I mean, if we'll we'll
- 5:15Speaker 3: try it, We'll give it a shot.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Okay, all right. We actually had a few kittens that
- 5:20Speaker 5: showed up for Christmas, so that we're kind of cute.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Okay, And again this has happening over at Greens Feeding Seed.
- 5:26Speaker 3: This is coming Saturday eleven to three pm. Do people
- 5:29Speaker 3: need to schedule an appointment or are they.
- 5:31Speaker 5: To hop in? Just go down to greens Feet and
- 5:34Speaker 5: go shopping and get your picture taken, or come get
- 5:38Speaker 5: your picture taken, then go shopping, whatever it takes, whatever
- 5:40Speaker 5: it takes.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Talk about the Pick of the Litter Rescue group. I
- 5:43Speaker 3: mean you guys, I've had you on the show before
- 5:46Speaker 3: for your various things. Talk about the whole mission.
- 5:48Speaker 5: And the pick of the whole mission is that it's
- 5:50Speaker 5: in the name, the Pick of the Litter. We concentrate
- 5:53Speaker 5: and specialize in kittens, puppies or newborns. We won't turn
- 5:58Speaker 5: away an adult dog, but we we are fought base,
- 6:00Speaker 5: so we don't actually have kennels, so when we get
- 6:03Speaker 5: a call for an animal that needs help, we have
- 6:06Speaker 5: to find a foster. In the case of right currently
- 6:10Speaker 5: which I want to apologize that Kristen couldn't make it today.
- 6:12Speaker 5: She was wanting to come, but we recently acquired five
- 6:16Speaker 5: and they're currently eight day old puppies from the shelter
- 6:19Speaker 5: where mom was medically unable to care for them. So
- 6:23Speaker 5: they need help twenty four to seven. So that's our
- 6:26Speaker 5: current project and there have to be tube fed, and
- 6:29Speaker 5: we really desperately need all the help we can get
- 6:33Speaker 5: with them. As of last year, I have the numbers here.
- 6:36Speaker 5: We rescue two hundred and one total animals and one
- 6:40Speaker 5: hundred and thirteen dogs and eighty eight cats and kittens,
- 6:43Speaker 5: and we currently have fourteen in foster right now that
- 6:46Speaker 5: obviously need homes.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Tarry to Porter Wagner again from the Pick a Little
- 6:49Speaker 3: that Are Animal Rescue group about this a big event
- 6:51Speaker 3: that's happening this Saturday over Greens Feed and Seed your
- 6:54Speaker 3: Valentine's pictures you can get those with your pets from
- 6:57Speaker 3: eleven to three, but Dave Allen showing five Any Life

- 7:09Speaker 3: nearest Husband's at Husband's Pizza dot Com. I want us
- 7:12Speaker 3: to talk a little bit about the foster system porter
- 7:14Speaker 3: because you know every Friday I have on Hannah Gardener
- 7:18Speaker 3: from the Canal charsty Man association with this with our
- 7:20Speaker 3: Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. I think it's
- 7:23Speaker 3: really interesting and I always try to bring this up
- 7:25Speaker 3: with Hannah that fostering is a great way that you
- 7:28Speaker 3: can help out the animal shelters and other groups. It's
- 7:31Speaker 3: not just about adopting. Sometimes the fosters in this situation,
- 7:36Speaker 3: like with this medical emergency that you mentioned, can be
- 7:39Speaker 3: almost more important than what the adoptions can be.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Right the shelter is all shelters across the country are
- 7:46Speaker 5: absolutely literally overflowing, and if you have an animal that
- 7:51Speaker 5: needs medical attention or special needs, maybe it was abused
- 7:54Speaker 5: and it just doesn't quite get along with the group.
- 7:58Speaker 5: So this way they get special attention. And it applies
- 8:01Speaker 5: to any animal, even the ones that do get along
- 8:03Speaker 5: they just get out of the shelter and get into
- 8:05Speaker 5: a more of a family oriented home and they do
- 8:08Speaker 5: so much better. And of course fosters always have first
- 8:11Speaker 5: choice if they decided to adopt.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Got a text here for you. It says, is for
- 8:16Speaker 3: the guests. We have two strays that I think need fixed.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Do you know of any reduced or free spay and
- 8:22Speaker 3: neuters right now?
- 8:24Speaker 5: Uh? Just up the location of the animal shelter on
- 8:27Speaker 5: the first floor is a place called Fix Charleston and
- 8:32Speaker 5: they do low cost neutering, okay. And then there's a
- 8:38Speaker 5: which other one up on Greenborough Hill. There's another one
- 8:42Speaker 5: okay well.
- 8:42Speaker 3: And by the way, if anybody's listening that knows of those,
- 8:45Speaker 3: feel free to text me or call Ryan or something.
- 8:47Speaker 3: They do the low costs. There was one I think
- 8:51Speaker 3: a few years ago. I know it was doing a
- 8:52Speaker 3: lot of work in the Barbersville area too. So there
- 8:54Speaker 3: are a few. We'll try to get those out to
- 8:56Speaker 3: the people, and please, for goodness sakes, folks, get your
- 8:59Speaker 3: pet spader newters right. I just sound like the late
- 9:01Speaker 3: Bob Barker Drew Carrey here.
- 9:03Speaker 5: But literally overrun and in the case of the five
- 9:07Speaker 5: pups that we have mom delivered literally as she came
- 9:10Speaker 5: in the door. Wow. And she was weak and young,
- 9:15Speaker 5: and that's why she lost the first four. Okay, within
- 9:19Speaker 5: within one day. They could use all the help.
- 9:21Speaker 3: What if somebody just wants to stop by and make
- 9:24Speaker 3: a donation, I'm sure you'll accept that.
- 9:26Speaker 5: Absolutely, you want to stop buy greens feed and give
- 9:29Speaker 5: a donation, or you can go to the shelter too.
- 9:32Speaker 5: We work hand in hand.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, we got a great group of people
- 9:36Speaker 3: here in the canov Valley area that do a lot
- 9:39Speaker 3: of great things for our animals, I think.
- 9:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you can go up to the shelter
- 9:43Speaker 5: and get a dog and take it for a ride
- 9:45Speaker 5: and then go down to Boulevard and walk it. You know,
- 9:47Speaker 5: you get a day trip.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Just get them out of there.
- 9:49Speaker 5: You don't even have to keep it overnight.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Yeah, just on a We've had, you know, some beautiful
- 9:54Speaker 3: weather yesterday here in Charleston. It would be a great
- 9:57Speaker 3: time just to go, you know what, wouldn't hurt all
- 9:59Speaker 3: of us else, you know, and as humans to get
- 10:01Speaker 3: out of the house a little bit too, you know,
- 10:03Speaker 3: to walk off some of the some of the holiday
- 10:05Speaker 3: in the winter pounds. But go, Yeah, that's a great idea.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Go pick up a dog, just take it.
- 10:09Speaker 5: For a walk, take it for a car.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Right, I'm sure, I'm sure. Oh somebody texted in and
- 10:12Speaker 3: said it's called fix them, fix them. That's right, fix them.
- 10:15Speaker 3: I had a mental block. Greatest listeners Pernal top of
- 10:18Speaker 3: Bright Hill. But they do they do a job too.
- 10:20Speaker 3: They do a good job. Texas citizens need to unite
- 10:24Speaker 3: to demand that West Virginia actually enforce and even strength
- 10:26Speaker 3: and animal abuse and neglect charges. People have got to
- 10:29Speaker 3: start being punished for the evil done to ennocent animals. Well,
- 10:31Speaker 3: no argument here, amen to that. I mean, you're preaching
- 10:34Speaker 3: to the verbial choir here, me and porter. All right,
- 10:36Speaker 3: let's wrap it up here. Valentine's fund raiser. You're calling

- 16:04Speaker 9: So our mission really is to promote investment in the
- 16:06Speaker 9: Charleston and Huntington metro areas combined. Because we all know
- 16:11Speaker 9: that people live in the surrounding counties from Charleston to
- 16:15Speaker 9: Huntington and commute regularly within the region, so we really
- 16:19Speaker 9: operate as one regional economy. So we market it to
- 16:23Speaker 9: outside investors that would be businesses trying to find locations,
- 16:27Speaker 9: new locations to locate residential developers. We're really getting into
- 16:31Speaker 9: working with them as well to look at this region
- 16:34Speaker 9: as a place to invest in a large metro area
- 16:37Speaker 9: because our population for those combined areas is six hundred
- 16:41Speaker 9: and fifty thousand people. So when you go out to
- 16:43Speaker 9: the world and you're telling the world, hey, this is
- 16:46Speaker 9: a place with six hundred and fifty thousand people, the
- 16:48Speaker 9: most populated region in West Virginia, it does make a difference.
- 16:52Speaker 9: It starts to make people stand up and listen.
- 16:54Speaker 3: A Lott I'm a big believer in this whole concept,
- 16:56Speaker 3: and I'm somebody, as listeners know, I talk about it
- 16:58Speaker 3: that it lives some I live directly in the middle
- 17:00Speaker 3: because i live in Putnam County, and you know, I'm
- 17:03Speaker 3: exactly halfway between Huntington and Charleston pretty much. And I'm
- 17:08Speaker 3: a big believer in this concept because it's a no
- 17:11Speaker 3: brainer to try to get people to want to come
- 17:13Speaker 3: in here, to say, Okay, we've got these individual communities.
- 17:16Speaker 3: I mean, we think Huntington and Charleston, but we also
- 17:19Speaker 3: think South Charleston, Saint Albans, Winfield, Hurricane A, Barbersville, Milton,
- 17:24Speaker 3: the area six hundred and fifty thousand.
- 17:26Speaker 9: Six hundred and fifty thousand for the two metro areas combined.
- 17:29Speaker 9: We also include Jackson and Mason County in our footprint
- 17:33Speaker 9: because there are some very large investments occurring in those counties,
- 17:37Speaker 9: as you know, Newcorp and time At and Berkshire Hathaway
- 17:41Speaker 9: Renewable Energy. And you know, people are living in Connaugh County,
- 17:46Speaker 9: they're driving to Jackson County to work. People are living
- 17:48Speaker 9: in Cannon driving to Mason quite frankly, as well as
- 17:51Speaker 9: the other counties. But when you're living in Putnam County,
- 17:54Speaker 9: you're thirty minutes from New Cores facility. So it's a
- 17:58Speaker 9: really a great time to be marketing our region.
- 18:00Speaker 3: It is neat again. We're talking with the Tyroll Ellis
- 18:03Speaker 3: of Advantage Valley. And now that we've gotten you know,
- 18:06Speaker 3: I sixty four is now open. That stretch that the
- 18:11Speaker 3: construction went for seventy eight years, I think on it
- 18:13Speaker 3: to try to get it finished, but they got it finished.
- 18:15Speaker 3: And the upgrades to thirty five and all this other stuff.
- 18:18Speaker 3: I mean, the roads ain't perfect, especially in the middle
- 18:21Speaker 3: of winter, but there's still that's got to be a
- 18:25Speaker 3: big part of it as well. That expansion on sixty
- 18:27Speaker 3: four is huge.
- 18:28Speaker 9: Oh, it's like such clear sailing now. It's really cut
- 18:31Speaker 9: down on a lot of the commuting time.
- 18:32Speaker 3: All right, so you're out with your annual report, let's
- 18:35Speaker 3: talk about that, right.
- 18:36Speaker 9: So you know this year our annual report, we had
- 18:38Speaker 9: a theme of being under construction. That's the theme of
- 18:41Speaker 9: And if you want to see our annual report, go
- 18:43Speaker 9: to our website, it's Advantage Valley dot com and you'll
- 18:46Speaker 9: find it there. Because we felt like we wanted to
- 18:49Speaker 9: highlight all of the well and we didn't really highlight
- 18:52Speaker 9: all of them because there wasn't room. But we highlighted
- 18:55Speaker 9: some of the key new investments that are happening in
- 18:57Speaker 9: the region that are truly under constructed, So facilities like
- 19:01Speaker 9: new Core, which we've all heard a lot about, but
- 19:04Speaker 9: actually in Huntington, the Marshall Institute for Cybersecurity, and there's
- 19:10Speaker 9: a whole innovation district that's being built on Fourth Avenue
- 19:13Speaker 9: time at in Jackson County, which is actually going to
- 19:17Speaker 9: be the only solar powered titanium production facility in the world,
- 19:23Speaker 9: and it is being powered by that microgrid that Berkshire
- 19:27Speaker 9: Hathaway is building there on two thousand acres. Here in Charleston,
- 19:30Speaker 9: we've got the Lift Center that's under construction, that's the
- 19:33Speaker 9: conversion of the old Kanam manufacturing facility into research and
- 19:39Speaker 9: food development kind of facility. And housing. We're starting to
- 19:45Speaker 9: see housing takeoff.
- 19:47Speaker 10: You know.
- 19:47Speaker 9: Last year we completed a housing assessment of the housing
- 19:50Speaker 9: needs in the region and we identified that there were
- 19:54Speaker 9: over the next five years, twenty thousand new housing units
- 19:57Speaker 9: that were needed to meet the current demand and the
- 20:00Speaker 9: projected demand by all these new jobs coming in.
- 20:02Speaker 3: And I think that's very important that we say that
- 20:05Speaker 3: I'll jump in here one second, that twenty thousand are
- 20:08Speaker 3: needed for what's already.
- 20:10Speaker 9: Here, well for what's already here, plus projected, oh okay,
- 20:13Speaker 9: projected new jobs, because we projected with all these new
- 20:17Speaker 9: investments there were going to be about five thousand new
- 20:20Speaker 9: jobs over the next five years. And then you know,
- 20:23Speaker 9: for every manufacturing job, and those are manufacturing jobs. For
- 20:26Speaker 9: every manufacturing job, there's a spin off of a number
- 20:29Speaker 9: of indirect jobs.
- 20:30Speaker 11: Oh yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 3: We used to say in the coal industry when I
- 20:32Speaker 3: did a lot of work with the coal industry, that
- 20:33Speaker 3: it all depended on which metric you use. But for
- 20:36Speaker 3: every coal mining job, it was approximately seven to ten
- 20:40Speaker 3: other ancillary jobs that come along with that.
- 20:42Speaker 9: That's right, And we actually cut back. It's about the
- 20:45Speaker 9: same for manufacturing. And we cut back on that estimate
- 20:48Speaker 9: because the number was so big, so we were trying
- 20:50Speaker 9: to be conservative. But be that as it may. That
- 20:53Speaker 9: identified a need for eleven thousand new rental units and
- 20:57Speaker 9: twenty i'm sorry rental units, and about ten thousand new
- 21:03Speaker 9: residential for sale housing single family home units. So we're
- 21:08Speaker 9: tracking housing. And you see you talked about Putnam County.
- 21:12Speaker 9: Putnam does sit in the middle of all these new investments,
- 21:14Speaker 9: and it's got a great school system and so obviously
- 21:17Speaker 9: it becomes one of the locations of choice that people
- 21:20Speaker 9: are choosing to live. And we've seen now announcements of
- 21:26Speaker 9: large scale residential development. So we were tracking in our
- 21:30Speaker 9: annual report. We tracked in twenty twenty four that over
- 21:34Speaker 9: seven hundred new housing units were either permitted or under
- 21:38Speaker 9: construction in the region. And that is due in large
- 21:42Speaker 9: part to the fact that people see that report that
- 21:45Speaker 9: we did and they understand the housing demand and the opportunity.
- 21:48Speaker 9: So every year we're going to be tracking to benchmark
- 21:51Speaker 9: ourselves to see how much housing we're developing to meet
- 21:54Speaker 9: that demand. We started off twenty twenty five with a
- 21:57Speaker 9: bank in Putnam County announcing six hundred units for Putnam County.
- 22:02Speaker 9: That was recently announced in January. So and as we
- 22:07Speaker 9: were trying to set up this, I told you I
- 22:08Speaker 9: have to be back in my office at ten.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I'm going to get you out here.
- 22:11Speaker 9: I have a call with a potential residential developer for
- 22:15Speaker 9: the region who's very interested in looking at doing something here.
- 22:18Speaker 9: So anyway, we're excited about all that residential development. So
- 22:22Speaker 9: these are some of the things that are under construction
- 22:25Speaker 9: here that are very exciting and I don't want to
- 22:28Speaker 9: mention too. Under construction is a project that Advantage Valley
- 22:31Speaker 9: has taken on that's very new to us. We are
- 22:34Speaker 9: getting in the real estate development business. We have purchased
- 22:37Speaker 9: property in Putnam County. It's a large industrial property that's
- 22:41Speaker 9: been sitting vacant for years. It was formerly known as
- 22:44Speaker 9: the Vosslow Track Building just outside of PoCA, and we have,
- 22:49Speaker 9: through a series of federal grants and state loans, we're
- 22:52Speaker 9: rehabbing that and we're going to put it back into
- 22:54Speaker 9: productive use as an industrial space.
- 22:56Speaker 3: What do you do you have Is it too early
- 22:57Speaker 3: to say what you want it to be or I
- 22:59Speaker 3: mean with just an industrial space.
- 23:01Speaker 9: It's going to be industrial space that we will lease
- 23:04Speaker 9: because here, one of the challenges we do have is
- 23:07Speaker 9: finding shovel ready industrial site. So we talk to a
- 23:10Speaker 9: lot of manufacturers that are interested in coming here. We
- 23:13Speaker 9: don't always have the shovel ready land or the ready
- 23:16Speaker 9: buildings for them to move into, and they're on a
- 23:18Speaker 9: type time frame, so if we can't meet their time frame,
- 23:21Speaker 9: they move on to another location. So we want to
- 23:24Speaker 9: have a facility that's ready to go that can be
- 23:27Speaker 9: easily leased.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Talking to chery Ellis again of the Advantage Valley of
- 23:30Speaker 3: The Dave Allen Show, and five any Line brought to
- 23:32Speaker 3: you a part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston
- 23:34Speaker 3: dirty Birds. What a time now, but we'll be playing
- 23:37Speaker 3: baseball here before you know it. Over go Mark Ballpark.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Check out the twenty twenty five Dirty Birds schedule, plus
- 23:41Speaker 3: Birds merchant more at dirtybirds baseball dot com. What else
- 23:45Speaker 3: came away from this study? What else did you find?
- 23:47Speaker 9: Well, if you don't mind, I'd like to switch gears
- 23:50Speaker 9: for a minute, which away to childcare?
- 23:53Speaker 5: Okay?
- 23:54Speaker 9: Because you know, as great as all of these new
- 23:57Speaker 9: jobs are that are coming into the region, we need
- 24:00Speaker 9: to make sure that our region and our communities are
- 24:02Speaker 9: ready with the community infrastructure to support the employers and
- 24:06Speaker 9: the employees so that we have a workforce that can
- 24:08Speaker 9: go to work. And so we have identified in addition
- 24:11Speaker 9: to housing, because housing was identified as a challenge for
- 24:14Speaker 9: employees to be locating near the employers. In addition to housing,
- 24:19Speaker 9: childcare and transportation as two other issues where we think
- 24:23Speaker 9: that there's a lot of room for improvement in what
- 24:26Speaker 9: we have here in our region. We've identified that there
- 24:30Speaker 9: are about fifty three hundred childcare slots that we have
- 24:35Speaker 9: a deficit of fifty three hundred childcare slots, meaning not
- 24:38Speaker 9: enough slots available for fifty three hundred kids, and that's
- 24:42Speaker 9: going to impact parents' ability to go to work. So
- 24:46Speaker 9: I think in maybe today's paper there was an article
- 24:50Speaker 9: an announcement about the State of West Virginia partnering with
- 24:54Speaker 9: a company called Wonder School that works with helping to
- 24:57Speaker 9: develop new childcare programs in communit unities. We are partnering
- 25:02Speaker 9: with them in our communities and we are going to
- 25:05Speaker 9: be holding a series of workshops to help people understand
- 25:10Speaker 9: how they can get started opening a childcare business, and
- 25:14Speaker 9: we will provide business coaching, technical assistance, mini grants, and
- 25:19Speaker 9: loan funds if needed for new childcare startups. Now, these
- 25:23Speaker 9: could be anybody from somebody wanting to open a childcare
- 25:27Speaker 9: business in their home to a full scale center, but
- 25:31Speaker 9: we are really putting a focus in twenty twenty five
- 25:34Speaker 9: on trying to develop more childcare in this area is
- 25:36Speaker 9: desperately needed. It's been talked about a lot, and it's
- 25:39Speaker 9: not just a problem here, it's across the state and
- 25:42Speaker 9: frankly across the country.
- 25:44Speaker 3: And this is one of those things and we'll do
- 25:45Speaker 3: this because I know, I know you've got to get
- 25:46Speaker 3: on that call.
- 25:47Speaker 5: We'll we'll wrap you up.
- 25:48Speaker 3: One of the things though, you mentioned schools when some
- 25:51Speaker 3: of these when some of these companies look at coming
- 25:53Speaker 3: in here, that's very important. But probably secondarily, if something
- 25:57Speaker 3: you know is the childcare issue, that's what they that's
- 25:59Speaker 3: what they look at.
- 26:00Speaker 9: Well, it sure is, and even to the point that
- 26:02Speaker 9: some of the companies are looking at starting their own
- 26:05Speaker 9: childcare facilities in order to retain and grow their workforce.
- 26:09Speaker 9: So we understand that's an issue. We're also working on
- 26:12Speaker 9: transportation issues as well. But there's a lot of excitement
- 26:16Speaker 9: in the region. There's a lot of opportunity. We run
- 26:19Speaker 9: an entrepreneurial development program and you know last year we
- 26:23Speaker 9: helped thirty new businesses get started that created about sixty
- 26:28Speaker 9: almost seventy new jobs in the region. You know, these
- 26:31Speaker 9: are small businesses, small numbers of jobs, and so they
- 26:34Speaker 9: don't get the headlines, but that's really the kind of
- 26:37Speaker 9: grassroots economic development that is so positive for your community. Plus,
- 26:41Speaker 9: we put a very big focus on helping to retain
- 26:44Speaker 9: our existing manufacturing base and that's a whole other program
- 26:47Speaker 9: we have. Well, have you had a whole other conversation.
- 26:50Speaker 3: And I know that the legislature is going to gabble
- 26:52Speaker 3: in next week a little later this year because of
- 26:54Speaker 3: the Gubin tour, and I know you guys are are
- 26:56Speaker 3: always a big part of what's going on out of
- 26:57Speaker 3: the dome too, I mean talking to people, talking legislators.
- 26:59Speaker 9: And yeah, we really try to make people aware of
- 27:02Speaker 9: the issues we're experiencing here in the region. We kind
- 27:04Speaker 9: of feel like we're a bit of a bell weather
- 27:06Speaker 9: for what's happening in the state. So yeah, we appreciate
- 27:09Speaker 9: whatever the state can do to help support us in
- 27:11Speaker 9: our endeavors, and we're willing to step up like our
- 27:14Speaker 9: partnership with the Small Business Development Center and Wonder School
- 27:17Speaker 9: to help, you know, make things better here in the state.
- 27:20Speaker 9: Give us the website again, it's www dot advantage Valley

- 30:26Speaker 3: all moms want to go to work? Childcare expansion is
- 30:29Speaker 3: not the answer. Population growth is the correct way to
- 30:32Speaker 3: gain workers. Turning all children over to child care facilities
- 30:35Speaker 3: is not an appropriate answer. It will have long term
- 30:38Speaker 3: negative consequences. As a text, well, the only thing I
- 30:40Speaker 3: would say to that is that fifty percent of all
- 30:42Speaker 3: marriages in a divorce, so there's a lot of single
- 30:46Speaker 3: parents out there, moms and dads. You want to pine
- 30:49Speaker 3: on that pushkin.
- 30:50Speaker 5: I didn't know I was on the area.
- 30:52Speaker 14: I would say that, you know, in a perfect world,
- 30:54Speaker 14: if you uh, if we're living in the you know,
- 30:56Speaker 14: in the land of leave it to Beaver, that might
- 30:58Speaker 14: be a decent answer, what you know, and if we
- 31:03Speaker 14: were living in that world, that never really existed. The
- 31:06Speaker 14: fact of the matter is, even when mom and dad
- 31:09Speaker 14: stay together, unfortunately a lot of times they need two
- 31:11Speaker 14: incomes to make ends meet, and childcare is an economic driver.
- 31:17Speaker 14: And that's why I was so disturbed to see these
- 31:20Speaker 14: childcare block grants on the chopping block last week, when
- 31:26Speaker 14: you know, President Trump was throwing out all these different
- 31:29Speaker 14: memos from the White House of what was going to
- 31:30Speaker 14: be frozen and what was no longer going to be
- 31:32Speaker 14: paid for, and we're still a lot in a state
- 31:34Speaker 14: of chaos over this. I just think it's been completely
- 31:37Speaker 14: rule by chaos and just to try to confuse the
- 31:41Speaker 14: crap out of everybody. But I was concerned to see
- 31:44Speaker 14: the head start was on the chopping block. The childcare
- 31:47Speaker 14: block grants, school lunch programs, a lot of things that
- 31:50Speaker 14: a lot of kids in West Virginia and a lot
- 31:51Speaker 14: of their parents rely on. So I'm concerned.
- 31:54Speaker 3: I'm just jumped right into the show, but I wouldn't
- 31:56Speaker 3: want to start off on somebody didn't get to say
- 31:58Speaker 3: good morning yet.
- 31:59Speaker 12: Hi.
- 31:59Speaker 3: You know, you know, he came in here this morning
- 32:02Speaker 3: and was saying that he's no longer wearing his glasses
- 32:05Speaker 3: because when you were on for the Christmas the Jewish
- 32:08Speaker 3: Christmas Spectacular, someone talked about how much we looked alike.
- 32:13Speaker 3: And so now you've gotten rid of the glass.
- 32:16Speaker 14: I'm trying contact lenses just so people can just you know,
- 32:18Speaker 14: for the benefit of the public. Who has a hard
- 32:20Speaker 14: time figuring out which one of us is which the
- 32:23Speaker 14: album the one without the glasses.
- 32:24Speaker 3: Okay, well that's not gonna happen with me. So before
- 32:27Speaker 3: we get into anything else, and I've already got a
- 32:29Speaker 3: ton of text here, wait ninety as we always do,
- 32:31Speaker 3: and we'll beat each other up a little bit. But
- 32:33Speaker 3: I do want to say Sunday night was a great
- 32:35Speaker 3: night for a Charleston native and your good friend, Sierra Farrell.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Four Grammys.
- 32:40Speaker 14: Oh man, I was so proud. It was so well deserved.
- 32:44Speaker 14: And you know this is not just an overnight success.
- 32:47Speaker 14: She has been working at her craft for a.
- 32:49Speaker 5: Long time, I know.
- 32:50Speaker 14: And she was born with just this, you know, god
- 32:54Speaker 14: given talent with her voice, you know, the incredible rain
- 32:57Speaker 14: she has. She just has such I think the best
- 32:59Speaker 14: voice on the planet. But also she has the ability
- 33:02Speaker 14: to captivate an audience with her live performances, and something
- 33:06Speaker 14: that a lot of artists, you know, even a lot
- 33:07Speaker 14: of Grammy winning artists don't have, and that's this genius
- 33:10Speaker 14: songwriting ability. I mean, the vast majority of the songs
- 33:13Speaker 14: that on her album she wrote and wrote wrote by herself.
- 33:17Speaker 14: I mean she had a couple of co writers and
- 33:18Speaker 14: won a Grammy for one of the songs that she
- 33:20Speaker 14: co wrote on the last album. The majority of her
- 33:22Speaker 14: songs she wrote, she writes. Yeah, and she's from right
- 33:25Speaker 14: here in Charleston. Performed with you numerous times, been on
- 33:29Speaker 14: this show as a matter of fact, when she was
- 33:31Speaker 14: at Live on the Levee a couple of years ago.
- 33:33Speaker 14: So she's a fantastic performer.
- 33:35Speaker 9: I was.
- 33:35Speaker 3: I was happy, happy to see it. All right, let
- 33:37Speaker 3: me knock out some text here before we get into
- 33:40Speaker 3: We had lot of stuff I want to get into.
- 33:41Speaker 5: Texas.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Dave America has turned their backs on her allies, and
- 33:45Speaker 3: I told you about the trade wars hurting our coal industry.
- 33:49Speaker 3: So as a texture, well, that was yesterday was an
- 33:51Speaker 3: interesting day because you had all this bluster about these
- 33:55Speaker 3: trade wars with our biggest trade partners in.
- 34:00Speaker 14: Canada and Mexico. And then all of a sudden, you know,
- 34:03Speaker 14: the stock market just tanked over it. And then all
- 34:06Speaker 14: of a sudden it was like, oh, trade wars off
- 34:08Speaker 14: because we've got what we want.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Well, they were already doing this.
- 34:11Speaker 14: They were already doing the things that they were being
- 34:14Speaker 14: asked to do about troops at the border.
- 34:16Speaker 5: They already do this. They already had the troops.
- 34:18Speaker 3: To me that, yes, the ten thousand troops, they've already
- 34:22Speaker 3: agreed to that.
- 34:22Speaker 14: That was stuff already in place. It was negotiated before. Okay,
- 34:27Speaker 14: so it was that was to me, it was just
- 34:29Speaker 14: very performative. Meanwhile, you got the richest man in the
- 34:33Speaker 14: world who had now has control over the treasure of
- 34:36Speaker 14: the US Treasury. I think it was a diversion, a
- 34:40Speaker 14: diversion tactic to get you, look at this shiny object
- 34:42Speaker 14: over here, while we give Elon Musk access to everybody's
- 34:45Speaker 14: personal information here at the US Treasury Department.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Isn't that kind of And we've learned since Donald Trump
- 34:52Speaker 3: has been in a position of power even when he
- 34:55Speaker 3: wasn't in the White House, and that's kind of what
- 34:57Speaker 3: Trump does. I mean, unfortunately, he frequently says outrageous things
- 35:02Speaker 3: that he's not going to do. He does, he tells
- 35:06Speaker 3: a lot of lies, or he may say it, well,
- 35:08Speaker 3: it's just a diversion to throw things out there that
- 35:11Speaker 3: he has no intention of carrying out he knows aren't legal,
- 35:14Speaker 3: but just the kind of maybe create a diversion to
- 35:19Speaker 3: move on to something else.
- 35:20Speaker 14: Yeah, and that's why we really need to choose the
- 35:21Speaker 14: battles that were fighting here, because there's so many battles
- 35:25Speaker 14: to choose from. I'm really concerned about what went on
- 35:28Speaker 14: last week with the executive order on the spending freeze
- 35:32Speaker 14: on like projects like the hydrogen hub in West Virginia
- 35:38Speaker 14: that I think most Republicans I know were very much
- 35:40Speaker 14: in favor of, including Shelley Moore Capito. She was a
- 35:43Speaker 14: champion of that, and now she's strangely silent on this
- 35:46Speaker 14: issue now that the project is completely in limbo because
- 35:50Speaker 14: Trump doesn't want anyone else to have any credit for
- 35:52Speaker 14: anything good. But there was a lot of investment going
- 35:55Speaker 14: into our state, not just the hydrogen hub, a lot
- 35:57Speaker 14: of investment through the Inflation Reduction Act, through the Infrastructure
- 36:01Speaker 14: Bill that he could never get passed.
- 36:03Speaker 5: That he could never get.
- 36:04Speaker 14: He had an infrastructure week every other week, he had,
- 36:07Speaker 14: you know, infrastructure cookouts, but he couldn't he didn't.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Have an infrastructure He didn't get a new bill.
- 36:12Speaker 14: I wasn't invited either, but he didn't get an infrastructure
- 36:14Speaker 14: bill that we got under the previous administration. And that
- 36:18Speaker 14: created a lot of investment into West Virginia and the
- 36:21Speaker 14: American Rescue Plan and other bills. That's that's what he froze. Yeah,
- 36:25Speaker 14: the spending from these bills because he doesn't have doesn't
- 36:28Speaker 14: get any credit for it. But it's it's it's hurting
- 36:31Speaker 14: West Virginia. That project would have would have hired a
- 36:34Speaker 14: lot of West Virginia workers and now it's going to
- 36:37Speaker 14: get to complete limbo. And where's you know, where's Congresswoman
- 36:41Speaker 14: Capitol who was a champion of where's our news?
- 36:43Speaker 5: Senator Uh?
- 36:44Speaker 14: I don't know if he's even in Washington, DC. And
- 36:47Speaker 14: I'll be honest, where's our attorney general? He should be
- 36:49Speaker 14: joining the other states that are suing this over this
- 36:53Speaker 14: unconstitutional spending freeze that on projects that are already passed
- 36:58Speaker 14: by Congress. Congress has the power or the person. It's unconstitutional.
- 37:01Speaker 14: So where is the attorney to the governor. Why isn't
- 37:04Speaker 14: he fighting for westernsidio.
- 37:05Speaker 3: I think people are stopping, and I'm not defending anybody, Mike,
- 37:09Speaker 3: but I think what's happening is is that they're saying, Okay, well,
- 37:12Speaker 3: this may be overturned in court. Let's just pause. I
- 37:14Speaker 3: don't necessarily agree with that myself, but that could be.
- 37:17Speaker 14: If it's going to be overturned in court, it's because
- 37:19Speaker 14: several states are leading the charge. In our state, who's
- 37:22Speaker 14: disproportionately hurt by it. We should have an attorney general
- 37:25Speaker 14: that fights for our state, not fight for a front
- 37:28Speaker 14: row ticket. At a Trump rally, tex says Trump's Canada
- 37:32Speaker 14: negotiating listen, I'll shoot us both in the foot if
- 37:35Speaker 14: you don't do what you've already planned in December. Due
- 37:37Speaker 14: magas are the biggest dupes. Good thing about Trump's idiocy
- 37:40Speaker 14: is it's an opportunity for learning. I learned that the
- 37:43Speaker 14: US food production completely relies on Canadian potash to grow, produce,
- 37:48Speaker 14: and produce, I should say, and feed for livestock. Canada
- 37:51Speaker 14: has US agriculture by the blanks. Let's see Trump play
- 37:55Speaker 14: tough and Canada respond with tariffs, limits.
- 37:58Speaker 5: On imports, etc.
- 37:59Speaker 14: It was a whole lot of bluster yesterday over that
- 38:04Speaker 14: to distract us from what's what's really going on. Canada
- 38:07Speaker 14: agreed to something they were already doing. Mexico agreed to
- 38:10Speaker 14: something they were already doing, and what it did do
- 38:13Speaker 14: colledges a lot of great uncertainty in the in the
- 38:15Speaker 14: world markets, and a lot of people were a little
- 38:18Speaker 14: bit concerned when they were looking at their you know,
- 38:20Speaker 14: their retirement funds yesterday.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Texas, if Trump has his way, there won't be a
- 38:25Speaker 3: solar powered tatanium facility. I bet New Cores trying to
- 38:28Speaker 3: shore up funding so they don't have to abandon an
- 38:31Speaker 3: in progress construction site as a text, but Dave Island
- 38:34Speaker 3: showing five any Lie Browns apartment by Morgan to Morgan
- 38:36Speaker 3: if you're injured high Morgan to Morgan in America's largest
- 38:39Speaker 3: jury law firm, Texas government subsidized childcare services are most
- 38:43Speaker 3: certainly on the chopping block. The majority want that, I'm
- 38:46Speaker 3: going to say, probably say that's a hard note.
- 38:48Speaker 14: I would say the majority does does not want. The
- 38:50Speaker 14: majority of working families rely on that, and it is that,
- 38:55Speaker 14: you know, it's an economic issue that drives other economic issues.
- 38:58Speaker 14: If people aren't able to get to work, we're going
- 39:00Speaker 14: to have it even worse for workforce participation participation rate
- 39:04Speaker 14: than we already have. And right now West Virginia has
- 39:06Speaker 14: the worst workforce participation rate. So yeah, it that subsidy
- 39:13Speaker 14: helps keep the gears moving. That's what moves everything else.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Tex says, if Trump is such a big issue, why
- 39:20Speaker 3: aren't the Democrats doing anything? And if they are, why
- 39:23Speaker 3: aren't they saying anything. Buskin talks about so many battles,
- 39:27Speaker 3: but there's no battle if the Democrats don't fight. The
- 39:29Speaker 3: Democrats are fighting. And we spent the weekend reorganizing the party.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Give yourself a new party head Avenue. We are you good,
- 39:37Speaker 3: good person?
- 39:38Speaker 5: You for that.
- 39:38Speaker 10: He is an.
- 39:39Speaker 14: Excellent person and he was definitely the best choice for
- 39:41Speaker 14: that job. And Ken Martin from Minnesota, he is he's
- 39:46Speaker 14: a workhorse, not a show horse, and he is I
- 39:48Speaker 14: mean I call him the organizer in chief and he
- 39:51Speaker 14: is going to help rebuild this party from the grassroots up.
- 39:54Speaker 14: But that's what we spent the weekend doing was actually
- 39:56Speaker 14: having you know, debates and elections and actually.
- 39:59Speaker 5: Being part of that.
- 40:00Speaker 14: Were you there, yes, yeah, I remember, Yeah, As the
- 40:02Speaker 14: chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party. I'm also an
- 40:05Speaker 14: automatic member of the DNC, so it was an honor
- 40:08Speaker 14: to take part in that. But we you know, in
- 40:11Speaker 14: democracy with a little deep is it could be messy.
- 40:15Speaker 14: It took a long time because we were actually giving
- 40:17Speaker 14: everybody a fair share at different offices. Meanwhile, on the
- 40:20Speaker 14: other side, I believe President Trump's hands the Republican Party
- 40:24Speaker 14: a slate and said this is running the RNC his family.
- 40:27Speaker 14: He handed the r NC over to his family, and
- 40:30Speaker 14: we're actually having elections. And it took a while, but
- 40:32Speaker 14: I think we came out with a great slate of officers.
- 40:35Speaker 14: It's led by Ken Martin that's going to be going
- 40:38Speaker 14: to turn this thing around Texas.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Trump's chaos is a smoke screen for the unelected billionaire
- 40:42Speaker 3: Elon Musk rating of the Treasury Department. I remember Republicans
- 40:45Speaker 3: being up in arms about unelected billionaires running the government
- 40:48Speaker 3: during the last administration. If Republicans didn't have double standards,
- 40:51Speaker 3: they wouldn't have any standards at all.
- 40:54Speaker 5: A text are an agree more.
- 40:55Speaker 14: I think that's what we really need to be paying
- 40:57Speaker 14: attention to, is how much power they're handing over to
- 41:00Speaker 14: this Uh yeah, this billionaire. Uh, the tech industry Elon
- 41:05Speaker 14: Musk It's it's scary.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Tex says the synchronized Conservative anger meet he also known
- 41:12Speaker 3: as scam, will rot your brain. We already have evidence.
- 41:15Speaker 14: Uh.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Shelley Kappado says the TEXTA is scared of being primary
- 41:18Speaker 3: by the tech bros if she goes against their dear leader.
- 41:21Speaker 3: She needs the government paycheck and insider trading info to
- 41:24Speaker 3: increase her wealth. Okay, I could have probably not read
- 41:26Speaker 3: that last part. Uh, but it was the last I'm
- 41:29Speaker 3: not going to get in. That's that's a very accusing toys.
- 41:31Speaker 14: Also, I would say that she's also uh interested in
- 41:35Speaker 14: let's say this, she's interested in who gets that appointment
- 41:37Speaker 14: to be the US Attorney for the Southern District.
- 41:39Speaker 3: She does, She does think she has.
- 41:41Speaker 5: An interest in it.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Possibly possibly, Tex says, hold on a second, Okay, I
- 41:49Speaker 3: already read that one. Please don't send me the text twice. Texas.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Dave Florida guy here. Every time Mike Pushkin's on the radio,
- 41:56Speaker 3: he has the BMW disease, not the car belly Eate
- 41:59Speaker 3: moaning one BMW So our things down in Florida. Let's
- 42:03Speaker 3: he should call in.
- 42:04Speaker 14: Sometimes we can get hear how nice it is, and
- 42:06Speaker 14: it's awful nice here in West Virginia today. You know
- 42:08Speaker 14: you should come back to West Virginia since you know,
- 42:11Speaker 14: with such a great interest in our politics, we'd welcome
- 42:13Speaker 14: me back.
- 42:14Speaker 5: Florida. Man, come on back, Tex.
- 42:15Speaker 3: Says, did chairman push can attend the DNC meeting this
- 42:17Speaker 3: past weekend where the new chair was selected. I couldn't
- 42:20Speaker 3: pick him out of in the dance video.
- 42:23Speaker 15: Oh.
- 42:23Speaker 5: I think a lot of.
- 42:24Speaker 14: Videos were posted. They were taken out of context. The
- 42:27Speaker 14: meeting took about thirteen hours, so at one point dancing no.
- 42:31Speaker 14: At one point it.
- 42:32Speaker 5: Was just like come on, get up and stretch your legs.
- 42:34Speaker 14: And while they were counting votes on one of the
- 42:36Speaker 14: many elections that we had.
- 42:38Speaker 3: You know, it wasn't just about the DNC chair.
- 42:40Speaker 5: It was you know, the vice chair for.
- 42:44Speaker 14: Community engage, civic engagement, which is a big role. It
- 42:47Speaker 14: was about you know, electing a treasurer, a finance chair,
- 42:52Speaker 14: you know, and d NC vice chairs at large.
- 42:55Speaker 5: So there was a lot of.
- 42:56Speaker 14: Different votes and you know, you have to get a
- 42:58Speaker 14: fifty percent majority of get over fifty percent of the
- 43:01Speaker 14: votes and or you know, you can't just win with
- 43:02Speaker 14: the pluralities. A lot of times it was multiple ballots,
- 43:04Speaker 14: so it took.
- 43:05Speaker 5: A long time.
- 43:06Speaker 14: So at one point they stay played like one of
- 43:09Speaker 14: those lion dancing songs. I call it squadron dance, Squadron dance,
- 43:13Speaker 14: And they had a little squadron dance and people took
- 43:15Speaker 14: a video and took it out of context. It was
- 43:17Speaker 14: simply about stretching your legs.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Well, it can't be any worse than what the Republicans
- 43:20Speaker 3: have done with YMCA, I can and Trump's move with
- 43:24Speaker 3: Look up, Bill Barr if you want to know what
- 43:26Speaker 3: Trump's move is with that dance.
- 43:27Speaker 5: And I'll just leave it at that. But yeah, it
- 43:29Speaker 5: couldn't be anymore.
- 43:30Speaker 3: It could not be any any worse or more horrific
- 43:33Speaker 3: than watching that.
- 43:35Speaker 14: Yeah, I'm not going to read too much into that,
- 43:37Speaker 14: and we should read too much into people getting up
- 43:39Speaker 14: and stretching their legs at the DNC.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Dave, why do you shrug your shoulders that obvious authoritarian
- 43:44Speaker 3: actions by the disgraced Trump and unlike a bureaucrat Nazi
- 43:47Speaker 3: musk who was brought in to who bought his way
- 43:50Speaker 3: into the White House, tell us why it's great for
- 43:52Speaker 3: inspectors general to be fired illegally, for FBI workers to
- 43:55Speaker 3: be fired for investigating crimes, for fifteen hundred criminals to
- 43:57Speaker 3: be released, and for political violence to be accept Republicans
- 44:00Speaker 3: have no inseecrety or honor. I don't think I said
- 44:02Speaker 3: any of those things. You okay, I didn't know. I
- 44:06Speaker 3: don't think you've ever heard me defend Donald Trump on anything.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Uh Tex says, uh Mike stopped the redundancy of how
- 44:12Speaker 3: bad the policies as President Trump are. The people see
- 44:15Speaker 3: how President Trump is repairing the damage of the Democratic administration.
- 44:19Speaker 14: I think he's going to be extremely bad, especially for
- 44:22Speaker 14: West Virginia when you're when you're freezing funding for projects
- 44:26Speaker 14: that are going into this state. It projects that everybody
- 44:31Speaker 14: I know on the other side of the aisle just
- 44:32Speaker 14: about wholeheartedly supported Shelley Moore. Senator Capita was a champion
- 44:38Speaker 14: of this hydrogen hub project. And now I'm not sure
- 44:41Speaker 14: it's going to get done. I don't think it's going
- 44:43Speaker 14: to It is frozen because that that that appropriation didn't
- 44:46Speaker 14: happen under under Trump's watch. Now, I think it's illegal
- 44:50Speaker 14: what he's doing. It's a I mean, I think most
- 44:52Speaker 14: folks who took a ninth grade Civics class can tell
- 44:54Speaker 14: you that there are three separate but equal branches of government.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Going to the court. Leila, Yeah, and West Virginia should
- 45:02Speaker 3: join in in that case. I'll say it again, Well,
- 45:04Speaker 3: it disproportionately hurts us. We should have a champion here
- 45:07Speaker 3: in West Virginia who who joins in on that case
- 45:10Speaker 3: and fights for West Virginians. Anyway, the power of the
- 45:14Speaker 3: purse resides in Congress. A spending bill starts in the
- 45:17Speaker 3: House of Representatives. It has later approved through a conference
- 45:20Speaker 3: committee with the Senate. The president cannot just stop stop
- 45:26Speaker 3: spending with all right, let me do this and I
- 45:28Speaker 3: will go to break, says Dave. Please tell Mike Pushkin
- 45:34Speaker 3: to relax. America finally has a competent president in the
- 45:37Speaker 3: White House. Democrats are done in West Virginia and moving
- 45:40Speaker 3: that way in the whole USA.
- 45:41Speaker 5: Thanks.
- 45:42Speaker 14: I'm relaxed. I'm just concerned. I'm concerned about the person
- 45:45Speaker 14: that sent that text. It's going to hurt them too.
- 45:47Speaker 5: All right.

- 48:36Speaker 3: Martin is a good pick. Martin has vowed only to
- 48:38Speaker 3: accept money donations from good billionaires. Democrats should be trying
- 48:42Speaker 3: to fight the only argument not to join it.
- 48:45Speaker 5: That's completely untrue.
- 48:46Speaker 14: Ken Martin's a grassroots organizer, came up through the Paul
- 48:49Speaker 14: Wellstone school of organizing. You see the results that he's
- 48:53Speaker 14: had in his home state, which wasn't always a given
- 48:57Speaker 14: that that Minnesota was going to Uh have they have,
- 49:01Speaker 14: They have majorities in their House and there in their Senate.
- 49:05Speaker 14: They have of course governor walls, and they've been able
- 49:07Speaker 14: to pass a whole lot of legislation in Minnesota that
- 49:11Speaker 14: helps that helps people, whether it's school lunches or you know,

- 49:20Speaker 14: Ken Martin is definitely not on the take from big corporations.
- 49:25Speaker 8: Uh.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Texas Congress has the power of the purse. Actually it's
- 49:27Speaker 3: a House of Representatives, not Senate. But where was the
- 49:30Speaker 3: outrage over the power of the purse during the multiple
- 49:32Speaker 3: times Biden unconstitutionally for gay student loans over and over again,
- 49:35Speaker 3: even after both the Supreme Court and Nancy Pelosi told
- 49:38Speaker 3: him he did not have the power or authority to
- 49:40Speaker 3: do so. The faux outrage is tired and played out. Oh,
- 49:43Speaker 3: freezing spending ends taxpayer funded DEI programs in other countries.
- 49:47Speaker 3: How funny that you leave that out, says the text.
- 49:50Speaker 5: Okay, we'll start at the beginning. First of you rollback
- 49:52Speaker 5: to tape.
- 49:53Speaker 14: It's exactly what I said, that the power of the
- 49:55Speaker 14: purse resides in the House of Representatives, and it has
- 49:57Speaker 14: decided and it goes through the Senate through conference committees
- 50:00Speaker 14: where they also have to approve it as well. Either way,
- 50:02Speaker 14: it's unconstitutional what Trump is doing as far as student loans. Yeah,
- 50:06Speaker 14: I agree with the with President Biden. So our young
- 50:09Speaker 14: adult shouldn't be starting off life in debt. I think
- 50:12Speaker 14: most people agree with that. And I will always be
- 50:14Speaker 14: on the side of working people over the sides of
- 50:17Speaker 14: the big money lenders. And so if you take the
- 50:21Speaker 14: opposite side of that, who really benefits from that, the
- 50:23Speaker 14: big banks.
- 50:24Speaker 5: I'd rather be on the side of the people.
- 50:26Speaker 14: But Dave, that's the last part of the question about diversity, equity,
- 50:29Speaker 14: and inclusion.
- 50:30Speaker 3: If you're against that, you're not here for uh, you know,
- 50:32Speaker 3: for uniformity, inequity, and exclusion. So that's what that's what
- 50:37Speaker 3: that actually means, And it's not always about what you
- 50:39Speaker 3: think it's about. It also means about hiring West Virginians
- 50:42Speaker 3: and it means bringing people out of poverty. It means
- 50:45Speaker 3: hiring people from certain socioeconomic backgrounds like.
- 50:48Speaker 14: We have a lot of here in West Virginia. So
- 50:50Speaker 14: when you cut these programs, who you're really gonna hurt.
- 50:53Speaker 14: You're gonna hurt poor working class West Virginians.

- 51:03Speaker 3: All right, quickly, on this situation with the delegate out
- 51:06Speaker 3: of the Eastern Panhandle, where do we stand on that?
- 51:08Speaker 5: This week?
- 51:09Speaker 14: So we filed a new like last week, it seems
- 51:12Speaker 14: like it was a year ago, we filed a new
- 51:14Speaker 14: petition with the Supreme Court. We removed Speaker Handshaw from
- 51:17Speaker 14: the petition because he abused an old statute says you
- 51:22Speaker 14: can't take somebody to court during the session, even though
- 51:24Speaker 14: the session starts on Wednesday, mister speaker. But so we
- 51:28Speaker 14: just went ahead and removed him from the petition. We
- 51:31Speaker 14: just named the governor and the petition, and tomorrow is
- 51:34Speaker 14: the deadline for the governor to respond. I think the
- 51:36Speaker 14: law is very clear. There was a law that they
- 51:39Speaker 14: passed back in twenty eighteen that says the vacancy will
- 51:42Speaker 14: be filled by the party that of the one who
- 51:46Speaker 14: created the vacancy. The subject the officeholder was in immediately
- 51:51Speaker 14: prior to the vacancy being created, and he switched to
- 51:55Speaker 14: the Democratic Party. All and so you say we should
- 51:57Speaker 14: get to fill that seat, and we put up a
- 51:59Speaker 14: list of three highly qualified, competent candidates for that seat,
- 52:03Speaker 14: and we expect the governor to follow the law and
- 52:07Speaker 14: choose from that list.
- 52:08Speaker 3: Is it going to end, I like in over the
- 52:10Speaker 3: next twenty four hours, or are we.
- 52:11Speaker 14: Going to get I think the people of that district
- 52:13Speaker 14: deserve to have some sort of answers there. Of course,
- 52:15Speaker 14: the governor made the wrong decision, picked from the wrong list.
- 52:18Speaker 14: We feel the vacancy was created in an unconstitutional and
- 52:21Speaker 14: unlawful manner, and I will see where it goes.
- 52:23Speaker 5: We just want the Republicans to follow the law.
- 52:26Speaker 3: You gotta leave it there, delicate, Mike Pushkin, I appreciate
- 52:28Speaker 3: you being her State Democratic Party chair.
