So Tokyo Avengers is an anime that actually has two seasons, three seasons right

now. The first season, which is a continuous two course, so it

aired for two continuous seasons, and I think it is twenty two or twenty

three episodes. Was aired in the spring and summer seasons of twenty twenty one,

so it's like three ish years old now. It was done by Linden

Film's studio, which has tons of credits, but most of them are things

I haven't seen. But more recently they've done anime like Insomniacs After School,

which I heard was very good but I didn't get into because I'm really not

interested in a romance anime that much, and Call of the Night, which

I loved, So they've been doing pretty well recently. They aren't what I

would call like a incredibly animation focused anime studio in the sense that, like

in Tokio Avengers, despite it being an action anime, there's not gonna be

a lot of like incredible Sokkaga, which kind of sucks. Actually, you

want an action anime to have heavy focus on animating action, but we're just

not really gonna have that as much. Not to say that it is animated

poorly or anything. I do notice shortcuts though, but I noticed them in

Rie zero as well. Kind of the same sort of take on animating is

going on between this and Rezero. Very very different than something like Chainsaw Man

or teen Goku Dai Machio, which were just gorgeously animated and deserve high,

high praise. This is, you know, they're hoping that the story and

the voice acting and the arts and the direction is all gonna compensate for the

lack of fluid animation, which is fine and also very very normal for anime,

but it is way more fun to watch things that have tons and tons

of sokaka. But we can't have it all, can we? So more

about the production the first season, and I think all of the seasons were

directed by Hotsumi Koichi, who doesn't have a lot of directorial credits. He's

done a lot of key animation on things and that kind of stuff. But

I did catch that he directed dead Man Wonderland, at least one season of

Blue Exorcist, and an anime called Gangsta, which I don't think I've ever

heard of. I don't particularly like any of those, and I thought the

dead Man Wonderland manga was really good, but the anime is just kind of

like nuh and ends real weird. It's like, I mean, I assume

that's because it just didn't get a second season. I don't know. I

don't want to talk about dead Man Wonderland right now though. So he's not

a bad director at all, but he doesn't have anything outstanding that I can

point to and go like, oh my god, he directed this. I'm

very excited now. Same for the series composer, who is Yasuyuki Muto.

He did script for dead Man Wonderland anime, which makes me even less confidence.

But that's okay, and a bunch of other things that I don't know

or haven't seen. And it's important for you to know that the anime is

based on a manga of the same name, Tokyo Avengers by WAKUI can and

what can I say about the manga. I haven't read all of the manga

because when I was reading it, it wasn't done and I forgot to go

back and read more. But the part that I got up to, which

is further than the seasons of the anime have you know, completed, was

everything was really really good. I really like the manga. I think the

art is really good. I think that the fighting is a lot clearer.

It's drawn very well. I don't know. I really really like the manga.

So if you like this first season, I would just pick up the

manga from here, or you can just do that now, or you can

do both. I don't know. And I'm not saying that the rest after

the first season are poorly adapted or anything like that, but there were a

couple episodes in this last season I was just like, what the fuck,

Like, We're just gonna hold on the same still frame over and over again

that I can't even tell what's happening. I think they may be having some

production issues, but whatever, I do think the manga is better than the

anime in my opinion, through the whole thing. But that's just too bad

who knows. So the first episode is called Reborn. What's finally, something

is gonna happen with being Reborn? I guess. So we start off looking

at a kitchen sink that's filled with dirty dishes and the faucet is stripping really

percussively, like every couple of seconds, it kind of permeates the rest of

the space. And we hear talking in the background as we're looking at this

sink and stuff, and the whomever says, now that July is here,

the weather in China's been hot and the distribution of air pressure has been bringing

in warmth and making the overall temperature higher than last year all across Japan.

And as this person who's probably a weather person is talking, we're panning across

this living space. It's a small kind of like one room living space that

I see a lot in anime, and it is cluttered and there's just kind

of trash bags everywhere and assorted like trash around. And then we go to

the wall and there's like a calendar on it looks like a pinup calendar or

some sort like girls in their bathing suits or something, and it says that

it's twenty seventeen. So it is twenty seventeen, guys. Anyway, the

weather person probably continues and says the Kanto Koshinetsu area as well as the Tokai

region will have clear sunny skies ahead. And now we're looking at like empty

soda and beer cans and more trash and piles of magazines like that. They

look pretty thick, so maybe some of them are manga. But there's also

just like what I think is probably like a ton of porn. There's like

so much porn because I don't know. In Japan in twenty seventeen, people

don't know, guys, I don't know. Anyway, continuing on, the

person says, the temperatures will be hotter inland, so beware of unexpected rainstorms

near the mountains. And then we see that in this room there is a

guy who looks, you know, pretty youngish, but I assume they're trying

to make him look like an adult. He's got black hair and blue eyes.

He's laying on a futon like a Japanese bedplace, and he's watching TV.

And he's like just shoving chips in his mouth, and in the background

we can hear zakidas along with the crunching of his chips. And now we

can see that he's watching a TV and now a news is on and he's

like and now for our next story, the escalating dispute between the Tokyomanji gang

has now claimed innocent victims, and on the TV we can also see like

behind the newscaster that there's like a picture like an outside and there's like a

car that looks like it's possibly crashed into a building, which is not so

good. And the guy who is there, you know, like watching the

TV is like, really, that's insane, And then the newscaster says,

six were injured in the incident. One was taken to the hospital but is

in cardiopulmonary arrest. The ones who died at the scene have been identified as

Tachibana Naoto Sen twenty five from Shibuya, Tokyo, and the guy who's watching

the TV is like Tachibana Nato, and the newscaster continues and says, and

another victim from Shibiya, Tachibana San's older sister, Tachibana Hinatasan twenty six.

At this point, the guy turns up the volume on his TV and his

eyes widen, and the newscaster says, the MPD, which I guess is

Metropolitan Police Department but I don't really know, is on high alert, and

the guy's like Tachibana Hi Nata and then we see the show title card.

Yay back from what may have been a break. We are looking at the

sky outside I guess, and there's fluffy clouds and it's blue, and there's

like a guy kind of voiceover and he says, apparently, my one and

only girlfriend who I dated in middle school, Tachibana Hi Nata, is dead.

Oh shit, dude. Then there's this woman with like curlers in her

hair and she starts like knocking on this apartment's door and she's like, hey,

off and the guy closes the door and goes back inside. Now we cut

to a like, I guess, DVD rental store. That's what I assume,

because we're looking at an entire wall of DVDs and they're gonna say that

it's a DVD rental store in a minute. And there's this woman and she's

saying, seriously, how many times do I have to tell you the same

thing? Hanagaki Takimichi okay, so I guess that's the guy's name. I

can stop calling him the guy now, And Takimichi says uh. And the

woman's like, DVDs need to go back on the shelves as soon as they're

returned, and she like puts one back, and Takimichi says, and she

cuts him off and says, yeah, I know all you ever are sorry.

This is probably not a good relationship with the person who's probably your posse.

So yeah. Now we are outside and Takimichi is walking and he sighs,

and we see that's slightly down the street in the direction that he's walking,

there are these like three kids or like teenagers or something, and they're

like hanging out by a parked car, like one of them sitting on the

hood and they're laughing and being dumb, and they look at him as he's

approaching with like condemnation on their face. And the first kid's like, hey,

old guy. And we know from his middle school sweetheart that he's twenty

six, so he's actually pretty young, but whatever, and Takimichi stops and

he's like huh and the kid's like, you got a problem. Takimichi's like,

uh no, I'm sorry, you do just say sorry a lot and

he starts to walk again, but the kid like gets right in front of

him so that he can't move forward, and another kid jumps behind him.

This is weird, and the first kid just fucking scratches the car that they

were just sitting on with like some sort of small money amounts, like a

yen. I don't know. It looked like a penny to me, but

it wasn't a penny because it's Japan. And then they like call him stupid

and like run away, laughing, and Takimichi he just like stares for a

minute, and then from behind him, we hear a guy say, hey,

what the hell are you doing? And there's like a guy coming up,

and Takamichi like takes off running and the guy like gasps because he sees

this scratch on his car, and he like screams, there's a little bit

too much, but that's okay. Now we are at Shinjuku station, which,

if you aren't familiar, is a subway station. So now Takamichi is

standing on a platform like waiting for the subway to come. It's the number

fourteen train, it looks like, and he's thinking, I never thought my

life would turn out like this, living in a shitty apartment with papers and

walls, treated like an absolute moron by my manager who's younger than me.

Then those punks picked a fight with me, and I somehow ended up apologizing

I've only had one girlfriend in my entire life, and that was in middle

school. To top it off, I'm still at Danford, and God Takamichi.

First of all, before we go any further, that was too much

exposition. We've already seen half of those things. He's already told us that

he only had one girlfriend. But we do know he's a virgin now,

so that's fine. But continuing along, he's looking down at his feet and

he kind of smiles, like looking really resigned, and he thinks, where

the hell did I go wrong? And we see behind him now, like

because he's at the very front of the platform, so if the train stops,

he would be the first on. He's right by the tracks, and

it looks like someone is coming up from behind him, like we can hear

someone breathing, but we can't see them. We're in first person perspective,

and whoever this is reaches Takamichi and pushes him forward and he falls onto the

train tracks and he's just like huh, and the train is coming like it's

about to get to him, and he looks up just in time to see

the train about to kill him, and he's just like, you're kidding.

And then we have like a Takamichi voiceover and he's like, the moment I

thought I was gonna die, I didn't remember my parents or friends. I

don't think he has any friends, by the way, I remember Tachibana Hinata.

And now I guess we're like at school somewhere. Maybe this is middle

school or something, and there's like three girls and maybe we're seeing first person

perspective. I'm not really sure. And this girl is like apparently Tachibana is

on from class too, like Sanagaki, and the other girls kind of like

squeal, and this boy's like, seriously, why you though, and some

other girls like what are you gonna do? Some of the boys from the

other class came looking for you yesterday, And another girl's like, don't give

me that tachiban is super popular, you know. And then the teacher comes

in and he's like teaching class or whatever, and Takimichi's like, thinking back,

my second year of middle school was when I peaked. Oh my god,

the thing where you see your light flash before your eyes and then everything changes

catches his reflection in the window and gasps, and the train comes to a

stop. They've arrived in Shibuyah, and somebody is calling out to him,

like saying, Takamichi, and he looks up and sees that it's a group

of teens and we're seeing him from behind, but he clearly has a different

hair color and style than he did just a few minutes ago. It is

now blind and it kind of sticks up in the middle. It looks pretty

dumb, but that's okay. And this red haired kid, one of the

kids who was calling out to him, is like, what are you doing

get off the train and taking me. She barely manages to get off the

train before the door's closed, and the red hair kid's like, hurry up,

and Takumichi thinks, wow, how nostalgic. And so he is looking

at the kids that called him off the train and remembering who they are.

So he looks at the black haired, tall kid and he's like Makoto,

who couldn't keep his hands off his dick? What? And he looks at

the light brown haired kid with glasses and he's like the fool Yamagishi, who

thought he'd be smart if you bore glasses. And he looks at the red

hair kid who's got kind of like a devil lock, and he's like our

leader, a kun. And then there's the kid with the blonde long hair,

and he's like Takiya, who I knew since I was little. Yeah,

his friends sound pretty dumb, but that's okay. And so he's walking

with his friends and they're like going up and escalator now, and Makoto's like,

Yamagishi, did you see this week's issue? And Yamagishi's like, hell,

yeah, I saw that pin up. It was insane. Okay,

So I should pause here and say that sometimes when these guys are talking,

I don't know who's talking, like they're we're seeing like a far shot and

no one's mouths are moving or we can't see any mouths. So that'll happen

sometimes in this episode. So one of the guys is like, yo,

guys, we're in a public space. And another guy's like, I'm starving,

want to get something to eat. And now they're walking, and Yamagie

she's like, I could go for a hamburger, and Makoto probably at least

says I've got a coupon, and one of them's like enough for all of

us, and another one's like no, And then someone was like what the

fuck man? And they're walking, and it should be stated that Takamichi is,

you know, walking a little bit behind them, and they pass a

mirror and he pauses in front of it and he looks at himself and he's

like, huh an open collar and baggy pants, and he thinks, who

from middle school and he stares in horror and he's like, I was so

like, the far are you doing? And Takimichi just kind of like stares

at them really slack jawed and thinks, who knews seeing your life flash before

your eyes could look so realistic. Now they are at a fast food joint,

I think, and Makoto is like seriously, Takimichi just fries in the

small and Takomichi's like, well, I need change for the ride home,

and one of them's like it would have worked out, and then Akun's like,

I'm glad your cousin's the leader of Shibuya third Middle School Takamichi. And

Takamichi's like what, and Yamagi she's like, if any third year tries to

Takimichi's like what, and he thinks my cousin and he has this cute little

flashback of I believe it's Masaru being mean to him, but I can't really

tell because they're kids, and he thinks, are they really talking about massa

they all stare at him super confused because he does not know what's going on

have us a little war with the second years at that school, and Ya

their school and fight them right now, and everyone just kind of stares at

they think we're worses, so we gotta fight. Kids are so dumb.

Takamichi looks really stressed about this because he also knows kids are dumb because he's

twenty six, and he's like, they think we're woses and that's why we're

fighting. And Yah mckechy's like, you don't need to act like you're scared,

I'll laugh, and Takimichi looks pretty fucking scared. Now it's later and they're

at that school in shibu Yeah, And then we hear someone say hey,

and Takamichi looks up from his thoughts and he sees that his friends are approaching

two kids, and ak Kuhn's like, you guys from Shibui a third and

are you in huh? And Takamichi gulps and thinks fighting, huh, fighting,

And he looks really scared, and he's like I haven't fought in like

ten years, and he's sweating like a ton. And they left in some

writing like would be in the manga, like on the screen, and it

says like they're gonna be yelling at us. We're gonna get punched, We're

gonna bleed. I'm scared. It's gonna hurt, and he thinks, shit,

I might piss myself. And then it's also like I don't wanna Depending

on where they hit us, we could die. No, you know,

it's played off kind of comedic a little bit, but I don't want to

get in a fight and get hurt, so I understand it Takamichi. So

while he's freaking out, the altercation is still going on, and the first

kid is like, we're first year, so we don't know anything about the

second years, and Ya mcgeechee says what, And the first year is like

kind of jump in cower and he's like, you're just first years and Makoto's

Makoto? And the conversation kind of continues but it's not super important, and

Takamichi is looking on and he thinks, were the guys I hung out with?

Always this gung ho shit? I can't keep up. And now it's

later and they are hanging out in a park and Takamichi thinks calm down.

This is still just my life flashing before my eyes. It's been a really

long time, though, and someone says that's weird, and Makoto's like,

we can't seem to find any second years. Thanks, we didn't figure that

out on our own. And Akun says, they've all been first years or

third years so far, what the hell's going on? And Yamikishi's like,

are they all avoiding us? Hey, maybe they heard we were coming for

him and freaked out, and Makota's like, for sure, and they like

laugh because that's hilarious because they're just random kids. And then all of a

sudden, we flashed Takamichi and we have this like weird low Dutch angle and

he thinks, wait, I remember this park and then Akun like stands up

because he'd been sitting and he's like, well, delinquent's from Chibbeyer are nothing

but wanna be fancy city boys anyway, And then they realized that Takamichi's standing

there just looking like super freaked out, and Takamichi thinks fancy city boys,

they're not, and he remembers what's gonna happen and it looks like they're gonna

get their asses kicked. And then someone off scream says hey, and we

see that there are these guys walking over and sweat just pours down Takamichi's face

and his friends just stand there and shock. And the guy's like, are

you little shit's looking for our second years? Uh oh? And Takamichi thinks

these guys are the third years, and that guy lights a cigarette and he's

like, our second years they're on a school trip, and Takamichi thinks the

third years are in a biker gang. They're the real deal, real delinquents,

and it's important to point out this, so we should, before going

any further, say that Takamichi and friends at this point are second years,

and this was twelve years ago, so we know that Takamichi is twenty five

or twenty six in the present because that is how old his girlfriend that died

was, so he should be thirteen or fourteen in the past. So second

years are thirteen and fourteen, so that means that the third years are fourteen

and fifteen. Now that's all well and fine, but have you seen the

They are full grown men and they're muscular, and it is hilarious. And

they have like those pompittal or haircuts and stuff. And there's this one guy

who looks like really crazy in the group, and the boss has like a

scar over his eyebrow that like maybe he got from fighting someone or falling off

swing set whatever, and they all like roll their rs really hard, like

to sound tough and everything. It's not. It's not a good thing.

Things are bad, and they don't look like kids. But whatever. So

anyway, back to the story, one of the guys is like, we're

who is actually out in front of everyone right now, steps back a

little bit and is like, you guys are the third years, right,

We've already talked to your boss, Massara kun. And when Yamagishi says that

the guy who has been talking the most, who I think is the boss,

his eye twitches and he says Massau and the crazy looking guy just starts

laughing and he looks behind him and he's like, hey, Masaru, and

Masarro's just there looking like really embarrassed and ashamed and a little bit scared,

and Masara's like, yeah, you don't need to yell. And the crazy

guy says, go buy us all drinks, and he's like right in Masara's
