- 3:29this wicked and dark and perverse world.
- 3:32God, I pray that you'll snatch them out of the fire.
- 3:35I pray God, that you will call many more sons and daughters
- 3:40unto yourself. God.
- 3:42Save the elect, Lord, and save some more, God, I pray that
- 3:46you'll help us. God, help us to see you.
- 3:48Help us to know that you're here.
- 3:50We love you, King Jesus, Holy Spirit, fill us today.
- 3:54Teach us these paths of righteousness.
- 3:57Holy Spirit, you teach us. I hide.
- 4:02Lord, it is you who come out. Father, it's you that we are
- 4:07here for. For you are worthy to be
- 4:09praised. You are worthy of all honor.
- 4:12You are worthy of adoration. King Jesus, send your holy and
- 4:17precious name that I pray. Amen.
- 4:23Let's start in verse one. And there was a famine in the
- 4:29land beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham.
- 4:34And Isaac went unto Abimelech, king of the Philistines, unto
- 4:38Gerar. So here we see like father, like
- 4:41son, and the sins of the father are visited upon the children.
- 4:45And we're going to see that the apple doesn't fall too far from
- 4:49the tree. And all Isaac here is having to
- 4:52wrestle with the same kind of plague that his father did.
- 4:56And this Abimelech is likened to the title of Pharaoh.
- 5:01Pharaoh would have been the leader of Egypt.
- 5:04And here this abimelech is the title for the leader of the
- 5:08Philistines. Let's see what happens in this
- 5:11chapter. Verse 2.
- 5:13And the Lord appeared unto him and said, do not go down into
- 5:17Egypt, dwell in the land, which I shall tell you of.
- 5:21So here God is very precise when He visited Isaac here.
- 5:26And this chapter is one of the only chapters that we get to see
- 5:29the character and we get to see the life of Isaac.
- 5:33The Bible doesn't spend a whole lot of time talking about this
- 5:36man, but you need to know that he was mighty in the land, and
- 5:40that he is blessed by Yahweh everlasting.
- 5:46Verse 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and I
- 5:50will bless you, for unto you and unto your seed I will give all
- 5:54these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore
- 5:58to your father Abraham. So here God is visiting Isaac
- 6:02and letting him know that the promises of Abraham are
- 6:05available to him, telling him not to leave the area of Canaan,
- 6:11that it was going to be his inheritance.
- 6:14Verse 4 And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of
- 6:19heaven, and I will give unto your seed all these countries,
- 6:23and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.
- 6:27We have to come through the Jewish God, the God that
- 6:31revealed himself to Abraham and the land of the Chaldees.
- 6:37Friends, you need to understand this is the only one true living
- 6:41God. There is no Mother God, and
- 6:43every other God is an idol, friends, that cannot see and
- 6:46cannot hear. And it is only Abraham's God and
- 6:50Isaac's God and Jacob's God that the line of the Messiah came
- 6:55through. And that is the same line that
- 6:58you and I must come unto the Father through His Son, His only
- 7:02begotten Son. And we are eternally blessed
- 7:05forever and ever and ever and ever and ever by this Jewish
- 7:11Israeli God, the God of Abraham. 5 because Abraham obeyed my
- 7:18voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and
- 7:21my laws. So you can see here that the
- 7:24whole entire nation of the Jews, the entire nation of the
- 7:32Israelis, was born out of Abraham.
- 7:37Abraham was not Hebrew, he was not a Jew.
- 7:43Prior friends. It was created through him,
- 7:47friends. And that is a hard concept for
- 7:50most, but I will tell you that they are still here today
- 7:54because of what Genesis is outlining for us.
- 7:58This is all that we need to know.
- 8:00This is the beginning of that mighty nation that is still in
- 8:04existence today. 6 And Isaac dwelt in Gharar.
- 8:08So we're going to see this lapse, this momentary lapse of
- 8:11judgment from Isaac, and he's going to be corrected by a Pagan
- 8:16leader. 7 And the men of the place asked him of his wife, and
- 8:20he said, she's my sister, for he feared to say she is my wife,
- 8:25lest she, he said the men of the place would kill for Rebecca
- 8:31because she was fair to look upon.
- 8:34So that is what you need to understand is Isaac is motivated
- 8:37by the spirit of fear. And anytime we are operating in
- 8:40the spirit of fear, that is not from God.
- 8:43Fear is not from God. Friends, we are more than
- 8:47conquerors in Christ Jesus and that is what you need to
- 8:50understand. When fear creeps in, we must
- 8:54tackle it, we must do away with it, we must lay scripture on top
- 8:59of it and do not operate within fear.
- 9:02The only thing we fear is God Almighty and everything else
- 9:07boughs and cowers in His presence, Friends.
- 9:11And if God is for us, then who can be against us?
- 9:16Aid. And it came to pass when he had
- 9:17been there a long time, that Abimelech, king of the
- 9:20Philistines, looked out of a window and saw and behold, Isaac
- 9:24was sporting with Rebecca, his wife.
- 9:32Here you can see that this leader of the Philistines, old
- 9:36Abimelech, somehow caught a glimpse of Isaac's sporting
- 9:41after Rebecca. Perhaps they were playfully
- 9:47engaged in some activity, but Needless to say, friends, he
- 9:57figured it out. There was passion and desire and
- 10:01he saw that this is not his sister.
- 10:04This is most certainly his wife. He was sporting with her nine.
- 10:08And Abimelech called Isaac and said, Behold of a surety, she's
- 10:12your wife. And how did you say she is my
- 10:15sister? And Isaac said to him, because I
- 10:19said, lest I die for her, operating in the spirit of fear.
- 10:24And here he's actually getting rebuked by a Pagan leader just
- 10:28like his father did. And you can see here that the
- 10:31apple doesn't fall far from the tree. 10 And Abimelech said,
- 10:35What is this that you have done to US?
- 10:38One of the people might likely have landed with your wife, and
- 10:42you should have brought the guiltiness upon us.
- 10:45Somehow, someway, these Pagan leaders respect the God of
- 10:50Abraham and Isaac. And you can see here that only
- 10:55one true living God has the ability to 'cause the barrenness
- 11:01and to cause them to suffer for touching one of these mighty men
- 11:07of God, their wives. 11 And Abimelech charged all his
- 11:15people, saying, He that touches this man or his wife shall
- 11:18surely be put to death. So he put the fear of God into
- 11:22all of his subjects. 12 And Isaac sowed in that land, and
- 11:27received in the same year a hundredfold, And the Lord
- 11:31blessed him. So here he planted a garden, and
- 11:34the garden was very fruitful, And you can see that God's grace
- 11:39and God's Providence and God's favor was upon the son of
- 11:44Abraham. 13 And the man grew great, and went forward and grew
- 11:51until he became very great. So just like his father,
- 11:55everything he touched turned to gold. 14 For he had possession
- 11:59of flocks, possession of herds, and great store of servants in
- 12:04the Philistines envied him. So here he became a mighty man
- 12:10in that land. 15 for all the wells which his father's
- 12:14servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the
- 12:19Philistines stopped them up and filled them with earth.
- 12:23So here you can see that they were moving and envy and they
- 12:28were trying to disrupt the flow that Isaac had in the land of
- 12:35God's blessing upon them and his family.
- 12:38And you can see what great patience Isaac has.
- 12:41This man of God, even though he had a momentary lapse of
- 12:45judgment, it did not disqualify him.
- 12:47And you need to know that St. You need to know that you're not
- 12:51identified by your failures. God doesn't see you through that
- 12:55lens. He will discipline you, but you
- 12:58are His and we need to operate within that and we don't need to
- 13:02stay out there in the pig pen too long, come back to the
- 13:06Father's house, repent, get underneath church discipline and
- 13:11then be restored back, the 16 and Abimelech said to Isaac.
- 13:20Go from us, for you are much mightier than we.
- 13:24So here they feared him because he had become so great, and
- 13:29God's hand was on him, and everywhere that he went God was
- 13:34showering him with protection. And the same is available to
- 13:39you, friend, if you'll fall in line with what God has for you,
- 13:44get in the will of God and watch how doors open and that doors
- 13:50shut that no man can open. Friends, that is the life of a
- 13:53St. is we are more than conquerors, we are the
- 13:57peacemakers, Friends. 17 And Isaac departed from there and
- 14:03pitched his tent in the valley of Gerard, and he dwelt there.
- 14:0718 And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they had dug in
- 14:11the days of Abraham his father, For the Philistines had stopped
- 14:15them after the death of Abraham, and he called their names after
- 14:19the names by which his father had called them.
- 14:21So here Isaac is the great well digger.
- 14:24We know that Abraham liked to build altars, and we know that
- 14:28Jacob's going to pitch a lot of tents.
- 14:31But here Isaac is identified as the well digger, and we're going
- 14:35to see how that is significant in the spiritual life with the
- 14:39application that God wants us to dig up out of this passage.
- 14:44And here's what you need to understand is that the water is
- 14:48the word of God and it cleanses us friends, and it washes over
- 14:52us and it satisfies us. And Jesus said that anybody who
- 14:56drinks of the living water will never be thirsty again.
- 15:00And that is the Word of God. And Jesus is the Word.
- 15:03And the Word became flesh and the Word is alive and active and
- 15:06sharper than any 2 edged sword. And so you need to be in the
- 15:11Word of God. Be rooted and grounded in the
- 15:13Word of God. Do not let the book sit on the
- 15:17shelf and collect dust. That is what the enemy would
- 15:20have you to do. He wants you listening to little
- 15:23sound bites and little sermons along the way.
- 15:26He does not want you to actually have the context.
- 15:29He doesn't want you to know the complete, infallible, inerrant
- 15:32Word of God. He wants to keep you ignorant of
- 15:35the word of God. Friends, open it up and get in
- 15:38it and unearth the jewels that are in this book, friends.
- 15:43And that is what Isaac is doing. He's digging up these wells.
- 15:46He's finding the water. And that is what we are tasked
- 15:49to do as well. Friend, 19 and Isaacs servants
- 15:56dug in the valley and found there a well of springing water.
- 16:00So you can see that all of these Philistines and all of the
- 16:05people of Abimelech, they were stopping up Abraham's wells
- 16:09after he died. And then Isaac comes in and he's
- 16:11trying to get them to go again and they're stopping them up in
- 16:16here. He finally finds one that is
- 16:18springing up and over. It's flowing and it never runs
- 16:22dry. And that is what we find in
- 16:24Christ Jesus. 20 And the herdman of Gerard did strive with
- 16:30Isaac's herdman, saying, This water is ours.
- 16:33And he called the name of the well Isaac, because they strove
- 16:36with him. 21 And he dug another well, and they strove for that
- 16:40also, And he called the name of it, Sit da.
- 16:44So here you can see all of these herdsmen, They're coming and
- 16:47trying to claim these wells of Abraham's as their own.
- 16:52And here you can see the patience of Isaac.
- 16:55He does not try to dispute them, He just moves on His way.
- 17:00And that is what you need to understand.
- 17:02There are a lot of cantankerous people who they just want to sit
- 17:05around and they want to argue theology and doctrine.
- 17:08But we need to get our noses in the book and allow God to give
- 17:12us the fresh water, allow God to give us the fresh bread.
- 17:16We don't need to be relying on yesterday's old news and
- 17:20yesterday's old bread. We get in it every day, and God
- 17:24reveals to us new facets of His truth and who He is. 22 And he
- 17:30removed from there and dug another well, and for that they
- 17:33did not strive. And he called the name of it
- 17:36Reb, and he said for now the Lord has made room for us and we
- 17:41shall be fruitful in the land. That is what you need to know is
- 17:45that there are a lot of stopped up wells out there and they just
- 17:48want to operate within the bylaws of what is comfortable
- 17:53and what is community based. And you need to know that God
- 17:56has fresh water for you today. He has fresh bread for you
- 18:00today. We can't be living off of
- 18:02yesterday's successes in the stale, moldy bread. 23 And he
- 18:08went up from there to Beersheba. 24 And the Lord appeared unto
- 18:12him the same night and said, I am the God of Abraham your
- 18:16father. Do not fear, for I am with you,
- 18:19and I will bless you, and I will multiply your seed for my
- 18:23servant Abraham's sake. Abraham had found favor in the
- 18:27eyes of God. He was the friend of God.
- 18:29And you can see here that Isaac is walking in that favor. 25 And
- 18:34he built an altar there, and he called upon the name of the
- 18:37Lord, and he pitched his tent there, and Isaac's servants dug
- 18:41a well. 26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuza,
- 18:48one of his friends in Thika, the chief captain of his army. 27
- 18:53And Isaac said to them, Why have you come to me, seeing you hate
- 18:56me, and have sent me away from you?
- 18:59You remember they said, Get out of here, for you are too mighty
- 19:03for us. And here Isaac wants to know,
- 19:07what is your business? What do you come here for?
- 19:11And they said, We saw certainly that the Lord was with you.
- 19:15And we said, let there be an oath between US, and between US
- 19:18and you, and let us make a covenant with you, 29 that you
- 19:23will do us no hurt, as we have not touched you, and as we have
- 19:27done unto you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.
- 19:31You are now the blessed of the Lord.
- 19:33So look at how real recognizes real and they know that the God
- 19:37of Abraham, Yahweh, everlasting, the only one true God is with
- 19:42Isaac. And they see it, and they're
- 19:43saying, Make a covenant with us, that you will not harm us. 30
- 19:50And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink. 31 And
- 19:53they rose up at times in the morning, and swore one to
- 19:57another. And Isaac sent them away, and
- 19:58they departed from him in peace. 32 And it came to pass the same
- 20:03day that Isaac's servants came and told him concerning the well
- 20:07which they had dug, and said unto him, We found water.
- 20:11And he called it Sheba. Therefore the name of the city
- 20:15is Beersheba unto this day. 34 And Esau was 40 years old.
- 20:20When he took the wife Judith and the daughter of Barry the
- 20:24Hittite and Bashima the daughter of Elon the Hittite and will end
- 20:29on 35 which were a grief of mine unto Isaac and Rebecca.
- 20:34So we see that here it flips the script and we go to Esau and we
- 20:38see that Esau has started marrying these Philistines.
- 20:42And this was very grievous to Isaac and Rebecca because they
- 20:46wanted him to be thoroughbred and not to intermarry in with
- 20:52the Pagan daughters. And this is how the bloodline
- 20:57gets polluted, friends. But we are going to see that God
- 21:00has a plan through Isaac's other son, Jacob, the deceiver, the
- 21:05heel catcher. Let's see how it goes.
- 21:08I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 21:11word of Isaac the well digger. And there's so much spiritual
- 21:16application here. Start digging that well,
- 21:19unearthing those gems and jewels.
- 21:22Start drinking of that living water, Franzi, you'll never be
- 21:25thirsty again. I love you, God loves you.
- 21:30We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 21:31God bless you.
