- 0:00Speaker 1: It's Wednesday, getting over the hump if that is indeed
- 0:03Speaker 1: your regular Wednesday doings. And if that's the case, we
- 0:06Speaker 1: hope you get over the hump and then get on
- 0:09Speaker 1: the down. He'll run to the weekend. If Wednesday for
- 0:11Speaker 1: you means your Monday, we'll hope it starts off well.
- 0:13Speaker 1: And if Wednesday's or Friday, well, good on you. I
- 0:15Speaker 1: hope that you enjoy the next couple of days. Good afternoon,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and welcome to the program here on Sports Radio AM
- 0:21Speaker 1: thirteen under the Zone. My name is Craig Way. I
- 0:23Speaker 1: thank you very much for joining us, and us, of
- 0:26Speaker 1: course includes the producer of this program. That would be
- 0:30Speaker 1: Cameron D. Parker. The D on the birth certificate stands
- 0:34Speaker 1: for Dallas, as in his favorite football team that he
- 0:37Speaker 1: refuses to watch except on highlights if at the occasion warrants.
- 0:42Speaker 1: He was named for the Dallas Cowboys by his father,
- 0:45Speaker 1: who is equally disgusted, although he does watch. He was
- 0:49Speaker 1: watching the other day. You just happen to notice, right
- 0:51Speaker 1: when you it's like hate watching. It's kind of weird
- 0:56Speaker 1: when he hate watches. Does he want to see them
- 0:58Speaker 1: do poorly?
- 0:59Speaker 2: I think so? Really, I think so. Now when I watch.
- 1:02Speaker 3: If I do watch, I think I would have a
- 1:04Speaker 3: you know, I kind of want them to win, right
- 1:06Speaker 3: mm hmmm.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I think like I'll hear like him laughing and it's like, oh,
- 1:12Speaker 2: good play appid nope, fall start. Oh okay, that's that's
- 1:15Speaker 2: weird laughing again.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, Dak Prescott sacked for six yards, so
- 1:19Speaker 3: it's it's kind of a it's a weird, weird thing.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I just don't want to watch. He and the hen
- 1:23Speaker 2: wats to watch to make fun of it.
- 1:24Speaker 3: So, yeah, things are going greatest Cowboys fans, Craig, it's fantastic, absolutely.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Fantastic, gloom and doom and all this. You know, if
- 1:34Speaker 1: he was hate watching. I know people who hate watch
- 1:36Speaker 1: their teams, but the reason they do it is, and
- 1:39Speaker 1: this is not going to apply to your dad or
- 1:42Speaker 1: your situation, the reason a lot of people hate watch
- 1:46Speaker 1: their favorite teams is they want to see them lose,
- 1:49Speaker 1: that the change will be made, usually with the head coach,
- 1:52Speaker 1: sometimes with the front office. We know that, you know,
- 1:56Speaker 1: while a change might be in the offing for head
- 2:00Speaker 1: coach of the Cowboys don't turn their season around, we
- 2:03Speaker 1: know there is no change coming in the front office.
- 2:05Speaker 1: That is abundantly clear, and we hear the reaffirmation of
- 2:10Speaker 1: it every week when we bring folks sound from Jerry Jones,
- 2:14Speaker 1: as we did yesterday, where he's all day in and
- 2:17Speaker 1: he's you know, or so he claimed, and so that's
- 2:21Speaker 1: where it is. And yesterday what came out of that
- 2:24Speaker 1: was that he believes all the pieces are there to
- 2:29Speaker 1: have a really good season and what do he say,
- 2:32Speaker 1: storybook turn this thing around. Yeah, he believes that. And
- 2:36Speaker 1: a lot of the national media who played some of
- 2:38Speaker 1: those sound bites on some of the national networks like
- 2:41Speaker 1: ESPN and Fox and some of the other ones, they
- 2:43Speaker 1: laugh at that. They're like, no, you don't have the
- 2:47Speaker 1: pieces because you didn't invest in the pieces other than
- 2:51Speaker 1: what you did with DAK and CD.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I'm mostly one of those people laughing exactly.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Because you believe that also they haven't invested in that. Anyway,
- 3:01Speaker 1: we've got NFL to discuss. Certainly, we'll do that. And
- 3:06Speaker 1: because we're getting closer to not quite at but closer
- 3:09Speaker 1: to the midway mark of the season, speaking the midway
- 3:12Speaker 1: mark of the season, I know it kind of it
- 3:14Speaker 1: was one of those things. It was not intended to
- 3:18Speaker 1: be a comment to initiate shock value. It was not, however,
- 3:25Speaker 1: on Monday, when Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkisian said
- 3:29Speaker 1: they're looking at this deal. We could wind up playing sixteen,
- 3:32Speaker 1: maybe even seventeen games. He goes, that means we're halfway
- 3:36Speaker 1: through right now. A lot of people go, wha wait,
- 3:38Speaker 1: what just now halfway eight games? Two thirds of the
- 3:42Speaker 1: way through the regular season. But depending on he said,
- 3:46Speaker 1: if we go, if we get to where we want
- 3:48Speaker 1: to go, meaning getting all the way to the national
- 3:49Speaker 1: championship game, yeah, it could wind up being as as
- 3:55Speaker 1: many as nine more games. You figure four in the
- 3:59Speaker 1: regular season. If it qualify for the SEC Championship, you
- 4:03Speaker 1: play that, then all right, so that's five and then
- 4:07Speaker 1: you get into the college football Playoff. Unless you get
- 4:09Speaker 1: a bye and you're in that five through twelve realm,
- 4:13Speaker 1: then that would mean as many as four more games
- 4:16Speaker 1: in order to try to play for a national championship.
- 4:20Speaker 1: So yeah, there could be as many as nine more
- 4:22Speaker 1: toward that end with a college football playoff. This is
- 4:25Speaker 1: gonna be the first of two days where we attempt
- 4:31Speaker 1: to get you a little closer to the impact and
- 4:37Speaker 1: meaning of what all goes into the college Football Playoff.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I know we've talked about it. You probably know the
- 4:43Speaker 1: initial breakdown and stuff. But here's where I'm going with this.
- 4:46Speaker 1: This morning, there was a webinar. That's another one of
- 4:51Speaker 1: those twenty first century terms, is a webinar. Anyway, there
- 4:57Speaker 1: was a webinar in and I was one of many
- 5:01Speaker 1: many media I think, invited to participate in it and did.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And the webinar was hosted by two people. One is
- 5:16Speaker 1: the brand new director of the college football Playoff, Richard
- 5:22Speaker 1: Clark Rich Clark, and he was kind of the lead
- 5:26Speaker 1: guy on it. The other guy on it is a
- 5:28Speaker 1: guy I've known for gosh forty years. I got Brett Daniels,
- 5:33Speaker 1: who was a media relations director at SMU, was in
- 5:38Speaker 1: their sports information right then. He worked with the Cowboys
- 5:40Speaker 1: for years during the Glory but he was like the
- 5:42Speaker 1: number two to rich Dalrymple for years with the Cowboys
- 5:45Speaker 1: during Jerry and Jimmy's time and then on throughout. Brett
- 5:49Speaker 1: was there for a long time. Brett works now pretty
- 5:51Speaker 1: much in that role as the chief lead guy, media
- 5:56Speaker 1: relations guy with a college football playoff. Brett really impressed
- 6:00Speaker 1: me on this webinar, how much of the intricacies. He knows.
- 6:04Speaker 1: There were some things even that were catching Richard Clark
- 6:07Speaker 1: a little bit unto wares, but Brett kind of helped
- 6:10Speaker 1: him out, said yeah, it's this and this and so
- 6:11Speaker 1: on and so forth. So it was good hearing from
- 6:13Speaker 1: both of them. So I was on this webinar for
- 6:18Speaker 1: a little over an hour and they went through a
- 6:21Speaker 1: lot of this scenario for an hour, oh a little
- 6:23Speaker 1: over an hour. It was by the first solid twenty
- 6:29Speaker 1: five maybe thirty minutes was just rich Clark, go on,
- 6:35Speaker 1: you hear me. He There was some of that, by
- 6:38Speaker 1: the way, but not from him. It was from the
- 6:39Speaker 1: reporters anyway. Rich Clark was going and going and going,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and Brett Daniels explained a few other things and a
- 6:49Speaker 1: few other things. I thought it was pretty well versed
- 6:52Speaker 1: on the playoff, and I'd say I'm reasonably well versed,
- 6:56Speaker 1: but there were things I did not know that are
- 6:58Speaker 1: going to surprise log worn fans, in specific where Texas
- 7:04Speaker 1: might play games and we're gonna we're gonna get into
- 7:08Speaker 1: that now. The reason why I say this is a
- 7:10Speaker 1: two day process. We'll we'll run down some of the
- 7:13Speaker 1: things today and recap some of the things from the
- 7:16Speaker 1: webinar that rich Clark talked about. Tomorrow, rich Clark joins
- 7:21Speaker 1: us on the program. He'll be on with us tomorrow
- 7:24Speaker 1: afternoon in the four o'clock hour, and uh, I will
- 7:27Speaker 1: get him to echo and repeat some of the things
- 7:33Speaker 1: he said today that I think are really really pertinent,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and then I'll ask him some things that weren't asked
- 7:38Speaker 1: of him. So, uh, he will actually join us on
- 7:41Speaker 1: the program tomorrow afternoon. So we'll look forward to having that.
- 7:44Speaker 1: So I would encourage you to make make sure to
- 7:48Speaker 1: kind of listen because it might answer some questions you have,
- 7:52Speaker 1: it might might put more questions in your mind, but
- 7:55Speaker 1: also it might give you some insight. I know it
- 8:00Speaker 1: did me today, some insight into things that you did
- 8:05Speaker 1: not know about this playoff and what a different world
- 8:10Speaker 1: this is going to be for college football. And I'm
- 8:12Speaker 1: very excited about it when I see it. Even if
- 8:16Speaker 1: Texas were not in the mix, and they very much are,
- 8:20Speaker 1: but even if they were not, if the Long Worne
- 8:22Speaker 1: were not in the mix, I'd be pretty excited about
- 8:23Speaker 1: this about what this playoff has the potential of doing.
- 8:28Speaker 1: So we'll get into more of that, but we're going
- 8:32Speaker 1: to hear coming up from a long ORNs head coach
- 8:35Speaker 1: Steve Sarkisian from the SEC teleconference, because remember we said
- 8:39Speaker 1: he did the news conference on Monday and that was
- 8:41Speaker 1: his only local media availability of the week. In other words,
- 8:45Speaker 1: no post practice media zoom on Thursday. We don't have
- 8:50Speaker 1: a long worn weekly with him this week. We do
- 8:53Speaker 1: have one Tomorrow night with Rodney Terry, Texas men's basketball coach.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Another basketball preview show, so we'll have that lie from
- 9:00Speaker 1: Pluckers the West Campus location twenty two to twenty two
- 9:03Speaker 1: Rio Grand That'll be from six to seven tomorrow night,
- 9:06Speaker 1: so we do have that. However, no Sark show tomorrow night,
- 9:12Speaker 1: No Sark media zoom tomorrow, but he did participate per
- 9:19Speaker 1: mandate in the SEC teleconference and we're gonna hear comments
- 9:23Speaker 1: from Sark on that coming up. Also, the World Series,
- 9:27Speaker 1: it's still going. There's another game tonight the New York
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yankee Stay Alive. Last night finally got the bats going.
- 9:32Speaker 1: The Dodgers went with a bullpen game, and you know,
- 9:36Speaker 1: the Dodgers have had mixed results with the bullpen game.
- 9:39Speaker 1: It drew a lot of attention because it was magnificent
- 9:42Speaker 1: when they had to have it against San Diego and
- 9:46Speaker 1: got that in Game four of that best of five
- 9:49Speaker 1: series when they were down two games to one. It
- 9:51Speaker 1: blew up in their face in game two of the
- 9:57Speaker 1: or I guess it was Game five of the nl
- 10:00Speaker 1: CS against the Mets, and they had they had one
- 10:02Speaker 1: win and one loss with it in the NLCS. They
- 10:04Speaker 1: won in game two and they lost in Game five.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I think it was. I can't remember exactly anyway, Uh.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And then and now they've taken a hit on the air,
- 10:13Speaker 1: the Yankees got after him. And then and then one
- 10:16Speaker 1: of the most talked about that. There were two things.
- 10:18Speaker 1: There were a couple of things that were really laid
- 10:20Speaker 1: out there. First of all, Anthony Volpie's Grand Slam, which
- 10:24Speaker 1: really got the got the Yankees up and running. Took
- 10:29Speaker 1: him from down two to one to up five to two,
- 10:31Speaker 1: and they'd never looked back. It got cut to five four.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And then the Yankees blew up the back half of
- 10:35Speaker 1: the Dodger bullpen late in the game. There was that
- 10:39Speaker 1: Freddie Freeman hit another home run, six consecutive World Series
- 10:42Speaker 1: games going for him, going back to his days with
- 10:45Speaker 1: the Braves with a home run that's a major League record. Now,
- 10:49Speaker 1: there was that, and then there was the incident in
- 10:54Speaker 1: the first inning when Mookie Betts is chasing a flyball
- 10:58Speaker 1: down the right field foul out in filatair. He goes
- 11:00Speaker 1: up against the ball, has the ball in his glove,
- 11:02Speaker 1: makes the catch, and two fans grab his arm if
- 11:06Speaker 1: you saw it. One holds his arm while the other
- 11:10Speaker 1: prize open his glove and tosses the ball out. Now,
- 11:16Speaker 1: fan interference was called, the battle was out, and the
- 11:18Speaker 1: fans were ejected from the game. And the reactions on
- 11:23Speaker 1: social media is, you know what a couple of nimrods,
- 11:27Speaker 1: you know, and these guys should be prevented from coming
- 11:29Speaker 1: back and they should, they should, you know, have their
- 11:33Speaker 1: tickets or blah blah blah. So and so we'll have
- 11:35Speaker 1: an update on that on what their status is for
- 11:38Speaker 1: tonight's game that's coming up and inconceivable. So we got
- 11:41Speaker 1: a lot of things to get to on the program,
- 11:42Speaker 1: but up the next one year from long Worn's head
- 11:44Speaker 1: coach Steve Sarkisha here on a Wednesday on sports Radio
- 11:47Speaker 1: AM thirteen under the Zone in the iHeartRadio app
