Peter: author, speaker, and energy healer. Midway through a 20-year successful engineering career, she's experienced a spontaneous spiritual opening which changed her life, transferring her from skeptic to Please welcome in the author of Energy is Real, a practical guide for managing personal energy in daily life, the one, the only Gale, how do you say your last name? Gail Behrend: The H is silent. Peter: Baron, gotcha. Baron, I am so terrible at last names today, it's not even funny. But Gail, welcome in. Why don't you tell everybody a little more about yourself? Gail Behrend: All right, well, thanks for having me. I'm excited to be here. And of course, we're talking about my favorite subject, so I'm even more excited. well, ⁓ the first part of my life, ⁓ I ⁓ a agnostic, very left brain logical person. And so engineering was kind of natural for me. and I loved my engineering career, but I also had a very limited view of life. And it was very much that there's the material world that's real and everything else doesn't exist, or it's a hallucination. And I was very much against organized religion as well. I basically the only kind of spiritual. Peter: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: experience I would have would be feeling nature, being, you know, looking at a beautiful view from a mountaintop and that sort of thing. So that's as close as I came to being spiritual. I had a very, I had a great career and I had a ⁓ relationship. with the men I loved and we were living together, we'd been together four years, were looking to buy a house and you know everything was moving nicely in my projected engineer mind direction, right? The house in the suburbs, 2.5 kids, the golden retriever, etc. And what happened was I had a shock, the relationship Peter: All right. Gail Behrend: I discovered that he was cheating on me and and I ⁓ blew you know, I had totally trusted him and so suddenly I was heartbroken and we up ⁓ and ⁓ I devastated because this is the man I had believed I was going to live the rest of my life with and ⁓ and and went into this deep spiral of despair ⁓ and so, know Peter: ⁓ no. Gail Behrend: I don't know whether men do this too or not, a lot of women, they take the blame. Even if it's not their fault, I they'll try and find reasons why what they could have done better, right? And that sort of thing. And ⁓ so can lead to a negative spiral ⁓ because you look for something wrong with you, you'll find it. Right? The ego does that. It says, sure, I'll show you why it's your, you know. ⁓ And went into this Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: spiral of despair, basically every thought I had fed that negativity ⁓ the point where I felt that that I didn't deserve love and that I was I never have loved that that was my one chance at love and I'd blown it or lost it and and heart was breaking and so I and I didn't know how to deal with that I just ⁓ basically it felt ⁓ my life was opened up by like an earthquake and I was on the edge of this chasm and I fell in. when I hit bottom, the very that I could never have love, it was like, I don't want to live if I can't have love. Why live if can't have love? And so I started thinking suicidal thoughts. And ⁓ as I was that of utter despair, Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: ready to end my life or give up my life, suddenly heard this voice in my head which said, but I love you. And not only did it say that, it was accompanied by a rush of energy coming down from crown of my head all the way through my body, this golden pink energy that filled me with this sense of infinite love. went into every cell of my body and I'd never known anything like that in my entire life. And so it blew my engineer mind. It was like, what is this? It does not compute, doesn't fit my reality. And so that triggered this intense need to find out what that was. it was wonderful. I I went into an altered state as a result of that. sort of as I was feeling the we're across was you could never not have love. Peter: Right. Gail Behrend: And it was, that's rather good news. And it was far more loving. ⁓ have I got a bad connection? ⁓ It a good, it was far more loving than anything I'd ever experienced even from my parents. ⁓ And I into this altered state, it was as if I was moving into the cosmos and looking at earth. And I felt this same wave of love. Peter: No, you're good. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: coming to all of us. We just don't know it. We've turned our backs or we've got our own beliefs and all that sort of that believe that, you know, God is a punishing God or there isn't a God and that sort of thing. And so we suffer not knowing there's this incredibly loving intelligence that's beaming love to us all the time, but we totally don't know. Peter: you know, the principle of energy has always been there. It's just saying people don't understand it as well, you know? Like, I'm energy sensitive. Well, while recording this show, there's a couple times I've had interesting moments. Like, one of them with a woman named Sherrianne Boyle, we were discussing something and she was reading something to me and all of a sudden that same feeling of just washing over you completely, like something was happening. ⁓ was like, dude, this is crazy. What is going on? ⁓ Gail Behrend: Yes. Peter: And like, if you watch me, I go blank, like right in the middle of what she's saying, I'm just watching her. I just like staring at her intently. I'm not saying a thing. And then all of sudden I just start going off and this whole tangent and just burst of energy of, my God, let me tell you what just happened. So, you know, I've, I've just kind of like at first I was like, man, what is that? So then later on I run into another person. She, she goes by the energy alchemist. And we were talking about how this weird sensation I had, I couldn't tell what it was. but it was actually energy I was feeling. So like I can sense people's energy and feeling things, you know, and didn't know it was energy sensitive until I started talking to her and we just started exploring this avenue. And then it was energy and then like everybody lined up after that, like the next three interviews all, and it was interesting because we were talking about the whole concept. Gail Behrend: Yeah, it was meant to be. That's your seeking journey and that's what happens when you end up choosing to find it. What just happened? ⁓ It's like spirit arranges things for you, like synchronicities. Peter: Or exactly. You know, and that was funny too, because the woman that we, when this first incident happened, she mentioned that spirit was who she tapped into. She's like, well, I tapped into this entity I called spirit. And she said spirit channels through me. And she wrote like 11 books. She has like 12 books total, but she had like 11 of them she was writing so far. And she has no writing background, mind you, like her whole background, she has no writing. She's just a housewife. And all of a sudden she tapped into something that she couldn't explain that just gave her this ability write these books. And I was like, okay, I'm curious. Now this is interesting. And she's like, hey Pete, can I read some to you? That's when that moment happened, when that weird moment happens, I was just like, what the hell is going on? Like I felt it just wash over me. And I was like, okay, now I'm interested. And then when I met Melanie, Melanie was the energy alchemist. Me and her had discussed how I'm energy sensitive. So I was like, okay, let me explain. And then like I said, the next few people I ran into were all energy healers of some sort. Even a good friend of mine, she runs the Metamorphosis Project. Gail Behrend: you Peter: process, a motor motor fist project, she actually is energy to, uh, Tanya Eckenberg was actually a guest on the show when I was on her show too. And me and her conversation as well, she was energy here as well. And I was like, this is so weird because it's like all of a sudden all these things started lining. And now I've gotten it to the point where I can, I can sense a lot of people's energy. Like I can feel people's energy. can, I can read a lot of people's body language before they, and you know, could read the energy that they give off. Like if I don't like somebody, I have this pit in my stomach. Just like, I feel kind of nauseous. like, Ooh, something about you I don't like, you know? And it makes a lot of sense, though. Like, I could have this sixth sense I could feel. And I always called it... I said it was a weird feeling, but then when I met Leslie Turner, another energy healer, she was like, yeah, stop calling it weird, because it's not weird anymore. We've already explained what it is. Because me and her explained... We went into the avenue. We started exploring this whole avenue of it. And she was like, yeah, it's not weird anymore. So I call it my spider sense of you. Because I'm a huge nerd, so I call it... Gail Behrend: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. That's a nice term I like though, and my spidey sense. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Peter: I call it my spider scent, you know what mean? Because I can feel people's energy. Like the minute I meet people, like I'm feeling people up. They don't realize what I'm doing in the first five minutes of an interview before I'm even getting into the call with them. lot of them I'm just like, yeah, I don't know. Like, let me see how I feel about this person. You know, like I'm reading the energy in the room before, even though we're not in the same room, I can still pick up on their energy across the way. So, you know, it's so interesting. Gail Behrend: Yeah. Of course, yeah. Yeah, it's not limited by physical proximity. Absolutely. And in my healing practice, I do remote healing. So people are actually in England, and they're getting a healing. I do it over zoom. And the way I do healings, I dialogue with the client as well. So I'm doing the energy work, and I'm sharing with them what I'm doing. And then they share with me their impressions as it's happening. that we're definitely, they're following along energetically on their own side, but they're thousands of miles away. Peter: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: And so it's not limited by physical proximity at all. You're right. Yeah. Peter: No, no, I agree. It's awesome though, because my girlfriend, has BPD. you know, we know people at BPD have an extensive amount of energy, you know, so like I can feel her energy. And some days I have to, I'm more mellow when it comes to her, because I know like the energy she's giving off, she's expending this extra amount. So I'm taking in the extra amount, you know, then I happen to be an empath as well. like going to hospitals is hell for me sometimes. So I have to protect myself going in there because if not, I come out super drained, you know, and Gail Behrend: ⁓ my gosh, yeah. Yes. Yes, absolutely. That's true. I do. That's something I deal with myself all the time. And it can be something as simple as a YouTube video, you know, because I'll come away feeling crappy. I'll forget that I was watching a YouTube video. It's a later in the day, why do I feel so crappy? It doesn't feel like me. And then I watching YouTube. That's Then I do, clear it out of my field and then I'm fine. Peter: So you know exactly the feeling I'm talking about, it's just like, it's intense. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: And the good thing about that is eventually you learn what you feel like, right? By being able to say, okay, I don't feel like me. Yeah. Yeah. Peter: Yeah, no. Yeah, like I said, ever since that episode, I've been exploring it too. So yeah, no, for sure. No, for sure. Like you were saying, like I went in this explorative path and then it's like I kept entering down the avenue of people, a lot of people call rabbit holes. like you said, so you went down this rabbit hole of energy healing stuff. So was looking into a lot of the practices and how to hone my sense and things like that, too. And I work on it all the time. And like I said, I've been really good at picking up on people's energy. Like if I don't like you, I know why I don't like you ready, because I can see. I sense your energy before you have to say anything to me. Like you could tell me a story and the whole time I'm thinking I'm feeling it out like, hmm, do I really like this or not? You know, and when I don't, I'm just kind of like, okay, okay. Like I won't, I don't know. Like I don't know within the first five minutes of meeting most people, whether I like them or not, I could tell, you know, but I'm always looking for certain things as well. I'm listening for dialogue they use, certain things they say, certain things they do. Like anything you're doing, always constantly on the watch of what they're doing. Cause you know, I have anxiety as well. So my anxiety kicks in like a superpower too though. Gail Behrend: Yeah. Yeah. Peter: I'm constantly alerted to watching everything around me though, but it's just my general nature anyways, is that I'm always on alert. Gail Behrend: Yes. Well, and that's how actually we're all naturally able to sense energy. comes, it's standard equipment. So our energy senses are standard equipment for everybody. It's just we've learned to ignore it in our culture at our peril. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: ⁓ it's really useful information. And if you've had any kind of abusive childhood, absolutely, you would turn on your energy senses because you advanced warning when danger is coming. Right. And that's where your energy senses come in. You can even sense somebody when they're they haven't even come into the room yet. ⁓ make myself scarce. Right. ⁓ sort of thing. And so we learn it quite automatically as if we're in a difficult. Peter: It is. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: family situation and many, many healers experienced abuse or trauma in childhood. so this was their way of coping. And it wasn't that they had to develop these skills. They were already there. They just learned to use them. for most of the people in North America, at least in Western cultures, it's changing now. think more people are becoming open to it. But in, you know, back when I had my first experience, nobody talked about it. And it was like, Peter: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: it was you're making that up. being an engineer, I'm very needed ⁓ And I got proof. mean, I had this experience that I couldn't explain. And that's why I had to find out what that was. ⁓ And actually why my book is entitled Energy is Real, because that's the experience that it was an energy experience, ⁓ this light coming down through my body. I couldn't explain that in normal terms. and you know I wasn't outside in the rain or anything like that or the sunshine it was coming from somewhere else and so that really and I had no frame of reference for it so you know I really didn't know what to make of it and I wasn't about to tell anyone who wasn't open to it but boy what an adventure that led to and I'm sure Peter: Oh, I bet. I bet it had to be really interesting though, because like the time period in which you were when you first experienced it, though, lot of people weren't open to those kind of things. They would have been calling you like hippie or, oh, you're a hippie. You don't know what you're talking. You know what mean? Like they would have called you crazy. Gail Behrend: I would have been calling me that, right? So I was one of them. so this was so different. It was like, ⁓ now what? ⁓ I felt completely unequipped to deal with it. But at the same time, it was so wonderful. I didn't want to dismiss it either. mean, it was something special. It's something that really uplifted me when I was near suicide. So ⁓ saved my life. Peter: That's funny. Yeah. Yeah. Gail Behrend: And led me to a far more interesting life that I was giving up. in a way, because as we said a little earlier, the synchronicities started happening. And maybe they were always there, I just didn't pay attention to them. But one by one, I mean, I was led to, in those days, there was no internet when this happened, right? So you go to books. Peter: Mm-hmm. Yeah, no, definitely. Yeah. Gail Behrend: That was our go-to information source back then. And I happened to have one or two friends that were more open to this sort of thing. And so when I explained my experience, ⁓ I was ⁓ first of all, I was interested that it sounds, they said, that sounds like a near-death experience. And so that's what I started reading up on, near-death experiences. And now then I heard about sometimes, Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: you know, so people would have these experiences of love and that sort of thing in these near-death experiences. But then that led me to past life stuff. So I read about, I think it was in Life Between Life or something. So somebody loaned me that book and that they were using regression therapy to help somebody remember, you know, infant experiences, experiences of womb or something, but they regressed them too far. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: And they ended up in the life in this in between between lives, the bardo state, they call it, where they were getting ready to be born. They weren't even in the womb yet. And so, whoa, my mind exploded. What? And there's there's that. And then that led, of course, to well, what about the life before? And so suddenly my mind was being expanded and faster than I could handle. Peter: You know, it's interesting you say that though, Gail, because Craig Merriweather was actually a guest on the show this past week and he and him were discussing this very same principle. He said that in Hymnotherapy, that someone had actually went regressed past being born to that area where you're describing right there, you know, and he said that we'd actually gotten the conversation. I'm like, listen, hey, I'm at the message now. listen, Craig, listen, man, you gotta never gonna believe what topic came up. Like I said, this weird pattern happens. Gail Behrend: Yes. you Peter: Craig and I were talking about it. Now you and I are discussing this same area because we got to do so, right? And I'm right on track for this conversation, but that's really cool though. Gail Behrend: Yeah, exactly. So you're right on track. Absolutely. It is, it is. And so, and then the next thing that I was directed to was the, have you read anything by Jane Roberts, the Seth material and that sort of thing? That was mind blowing. my God. You could now is talking about, you know, parallel universes and, and that, and of course they, the ⁓ thread all these pieces was that we're much more than human and that, that our human experience is an adventure. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: we're in, but we're not just human. There's much more to us and that's our spirit is actually eternal, ⁓ even though our human life isn't. Our consciousness is, so when we pass on Earth, ⁓ it's just form falling away and our spirit returns to the ethers or ⁓ dimension of spirit, higher frequency bands. Peter: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: And then I guess to learn and review what it did in this life. And so the whole point of these lifetimes from a soul's perspective or spirit's perspective is that we're working on a larger theme and one life's not enough to deal with it. the larger theme you have to explore from all angles, right? So if you're learning compassion, guess what? You're gonna have a lot of painful lifetimes. because in order for you to develop compassion, have to understand pain and suffering. So you're going to have a lot of suffering lifetimes before you finally, then you'll also have lifetimes where you inflict suffering. And so it's getting the whole picture and that ⁓ when inflict suffering, often it's rebounds back to you and that sort of thing. So there's a lot to learn that much more than you can learn in a single lifetime. And then you think about Peter: Mm-hmm. Yeah, no, definitely. Gail Behrend: all the different types of human experience you could have depending on what country you were born in, what gender you are, what race you are, they're all different. How can you feel compassion for everybody if you're limiting it strictly to people of your own race and gender, right? So there you go, next life. Okay, you're gonna be, you were a man for the last 10 lifetimes, guess what? You've got another 10 of women lifetimes. ⁓ so it's... Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: And I'm talking like this because one of the first healership steps I took was I became a past life therapist. ⁓ before that, I had years of intellectual searching. So reading, reading, reading, going to workshops, et cetera. And I a healer at that point. I was just an educated engineer at that point and an open-minded one. But I came to point where I Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: understood after reading a lot of Wayne Dyer and Louise Hay books, I began to understand metaphysics and the real the idea that emotions can cause disease or repressed emotions can cause disease and other and also the impact of our thoughts and beliefs on our on our health. And so I realized this was like after about seven or eight years of searching, I realized, huh, I never healed my broken heart. I'm still carrying it. Right? I understood everything intellectually, but I never dealt with the emotional side. And then I had no clue how do you heal emotions? And so I went into, I was living in Germany at the time and I went into a new age bookstore, which had a good selection of English titles. And I was looking for something, anything to help me understand how you heal emotions. I was... Peter: Mm-hmm. Exactly. Gail Behrend: looking at a bookshelf and about like knee level. So I was bent over looking at the shelf on the bottom and a staff member came by with a new load of books and they put one right in front of my nose and it was entitled The Healing of Emotions. ⁓ think this one's for me. exactly. so and that was written by a woman called Chris Griskam. Peter: There you go, right? Look, just like my story, you know what I'm saying? It's just right there. Gail Behrend: She's not that well known in the US, but she's well known and loved in Europe. And she was made famous there by Shirley MacLean's books, who were a few of them you may I don't know if you've read any of Sir Shirley's books, but there were some of them. He was out on a limb or dancing in the light, I can't remember more. She talks about seeing a New Mexico healer who did past life healing for her. And so she talks about some of her past lives and one of those books. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: and the healer was Chris Griskam she operates out of New Mexico and ⁓ wrote this book and that's how I was introduced to, past life therapy can be used to heal emotional wounding and also the fact that our patterns in relationship, they start out with our parents. And so it's a betrayal issue, chances are one of our parents betrayed us in way, at least as far as the child mind perceived it. then, so her point was a betrayal theme. That's a major soul theme. And chances are the ⁓ of that came from another life. And so, whatever parent betrayed you, chances are you betrayed them in a previous life, that sort of thing. that's where the whole idea of past life therapy came in for healing emotions. ⁓ ⁓ read that and I thought, ooh, I want to do this. ⁓ sounds like what I need. And so I ended up that, ⁓ there as a client, I went actually they had a European office. So they offered sessions I worked, I went there. And every, ⁓ just led to so many things I ended up, gosh, I don't, don't want to take up the whole call with this. But the net result was that I not only did I receive healing, and it was very powerful, but I was given the opportunity to train as a past life therapist. Peter: Well, I think that's so cool though, because Past Lives is the title of ⁓ Craig Mayweather's book. It's called The Past Life Guide. were at CUNSA. This theme keeps running, ⁓ know, because we've discovered past lives before. We talked about it with another woman. Where was she at? She was somewhere in England. She was actually, when she interviewed with us, we were discussing it. She said that, she said for me, she said she felt like my past life was that I was always... Gail Behrend: excellent. I love the connection. Yeah, the thing that. ⁓ Peter: always second man in the totem pole kind of thing, but you know, never heard. That's why I do podcasting now because in this life I'm actually being heard versus being the person in the backseat not being heard. I thought it was interesting when we talked about that because she was talking about one of her clients. He had a fear of knives and didn't know why, but in a past life, his past life, he was murdered by night. He got stabbed to death. And it was like, okay, well, it makes sense now. That's why he's feeling these things. Gail Behrend: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And so when I work with clients, don't know. ⁓ I also later went to the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, which is a four year program, energy healing is very comprehensive. And it includes psychological understanding, how does the mind develop in infancy and in the womb? And how does it develop over time through adulthood? And how Peter: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: So I got a very good grounding in that. the other thing is people talk about energy healing and that sort of thing. ⁓ talk about chakras and moving blocks and that sort of thing. But now I understood how blocks form ⁓ why form. the part that most people don't realize is that we're the ones putting the blocks in. They're not just happening to us. We're putting them in to protect ourselves at an age when we can't handle something. Peter: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: And so the block is our way of surviving. But later on, and it's also because of our childhood, consciousness isn't as developed yet. And so we draw conclusions that aren't right, because we just don't have the experience to understand life at that age. And we're also pretty egocentric. And so we take the blame for things, which aren't really our fault. they're not even anything to do with us, but because we think the world kind of revolves around us, we think, well, we made that happen. then if it's a really painful experience, we'll bypass it ⁓ our consciousness. Peter: You know, that's, that's funny you say that Gail, cause we had a guest on the show named Holly Hagg had told us a story that during hypnotherapy that she had discovered at three, eight, that year, at her third year of life that she found out that something had happened. And you know, for anybody that hasn't listened to that episode at this point is listening to this, go back and listen, you'll hear what happens. But what Gail is saying is 100 % correct because that's what happened. Her brain, her mind cut it off. That memory was gone. Gail Behrend: Yeah. Peter: but that feeling was still there. So she requested the feeling of it, but didn't know why it was and had no idea of this until she just started doing hypnotherapy. And then when her therapist was, ⁓ was kind of, you know, helping her out and kept mentioning, Hey, there's something we need to talk about, but we won't talk about it right now. You know, just kept mentioning, Hey, there was something, but didn't really talk about when you're ready, we'll talk about it. And then when she was ready, it was revealed at three, at three, that something had happened, a traumatic incident happened. that her mind had cut off the memory, but the feeling was still there because you're the body keeps score as a lot of people like to refer to because we remember that moment, but we don't have to remember the exact moment. Remember the feeling that was in that Gail Behrend: That's right. wonderful, I'll give you an example. So this is ⁓ hypothetical example, but it's very typical of the types of things I see in my healing practice. Let's there's a ⁓ little named Timmy, he's five and his in bad mood and his parents actually fight a lot. ⁓ And, but. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: while his dad's at work, his mother's kind of crossed with him she tells him to clean up his room and he doesn't do it. ⁓ gets the sidetracked, he's not deliberately disobeying he just gets sidetracked. He gets distracted playing with his toys or whatever and she comes in and she explodes at him because he didn't clean up ⁓ his room ⁓ so he tries to clean up. but he's scared. And then his father comes home and she lights into him. So she's obviously ⁓ about something and she's taking it out on ⁓ And maybe it's her husband's fault, but he's witnessing it as a five-year-old. So suddenly he thinks it's cause he didn't clean up his room that his mother and father are fighting, right? And an unaware. Peter: Yeah. Gail Behrend: parent might even say, you know, it's your fault if you had made me so mad, blah, blah, you know, and his parents divorce. Now he's carrying the weight of being the cause of the loss of his, his parents marriage, like one of his parents he has to choose between. And so he's in a in a state of what they call mental impasse, do it, damned if you do damned if you don't. And he he's he's being asked to tear his his his allegiance from one parent to another and that sort of thing and it's just impossible for a five-year-old to cope with that. It's just not developed enough yet and so it's so painful that he he bypasses the whole memory and the whole issue and and continues on ⁓ forgetting that and ignoring all that and as a way to protect himself emotionally. Well ⁓ fast you know 50 years Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: And let's say he the experience and it affected his heart because he loved both his parents and yet this was happening and they felt like was heart was breaking because it was being torn in two basically, right? ⁓ But unconscious. That's gone under ⁓ unconscious. he doesn't even remember that. And in 50s, he gets problems. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: And as he goes to see his doctor and that sort of thing, and it looks like he's got to have open heart surgery and all this stuff, but he decides to go to an energy healer. And so first, he goes to an energy healer and the energy healer would then, what I would do is I would, we would go, he goes into a, I won't say altered state, but it's a very relaxed and receptive state. So he's still conscious, still able to. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: to interact, but as all part of his attention is on his energy. And so we would, what I would do as the healers, I would charge up the area of the heart just to see what came up because ⁓ you're bypassing an area, it's undercharged. So the energy is not flowing to it, it's diverting around it. And so the cells and ⁓ in that area are not being fully nourished energetically. And ⁓ they don't, Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: they weaken and they're more susceptible to injury or illness. ⁓ just not dividing as fast and that sort of thing. so, when you energize area as the ⁓ healer, that's stored in that area that was bypassed before comes to conscious awareness. Except now he's in his ⁓ 50s, has life experience. It's suddenly the whole... childhood experience is what comes up. His memory comes up and he sees what happened. And he said, I thought it was my fault that my parents split up. ⁓ now he's an adult, of course it wasn't my fault. ⁓ was just an innocent bystander while this was going on, but I didn't know any better. And so instantly there's this wave of forgiveness towards himself. I mean, he can't help but forgive that little five-year-old because he realizes that he judged himself. Peter: Yeah. All Gail Behrend: for something that wasn't actually his fault. And so there's like this sudden release, there's no need to hold that memory back now and he's ready to allow it to be lifted. And so we just basically gently lift the imprints of that memory out of the field and clear it up. And then the energy quite naturally flows back into the heart and it starts to heal. And so once the energy flows reestablish, the natural, the body's natural healing process take over. And so that was just an example of how that block was a good thing when at that time when he put it in and he wasn't consciously putting it in there. That was just a reaction, but that's often how blocks happen. so it's not like catching a cold. There's a, there's a reason behind it. Peter: Mm-hmm. Right, no, for sure. No, like I said, it was it's funny because that's what Hollywood's experiencing her. That block was there so she didn't remember what happened because she was three, but then she didn't even know. And then she's like, well, what's what's this thing that keeps getting me, you know, and then finds out that that's what it was during that session. And, know, it's like to me, to everybody else, let's say it's mind boggling because it's like, wow, you know, people don't realize how Gail Behrend: Yeah. Peter: how deep your mind goes. Like when you get past that first layer to that subconscious layer, a lot of times it's, you know, a lot of stuff is there. You learn a lot more in that area than anywhere else because you know, we have a block that blocks you from getting that far. But once you get into that area, you have to be very careful. Like we were discussing the person that was messing around the regressum, past birth to that little parallel like Craig and I got into. I was just like, you know, cause I, Craig was actually, actually is a licensed hypnotherapist. He was talking about You know, what some people don't know about hypnotherapy is like, you know, you have to be careful how far you go back. And then he had mentioned that space and that unknown right there after you, you know, what if you went past it? And he said, that's happened before somebody requests into that space. And then they discovered what is going on in there, you know, and me and him got into that same conversation. So it's funny when you said that, cause I was like, damn, this is crazy because Craig and I were just talking about this last week, you know? So he'll get a good kick out of that one for sure. But you know, it's Gail Behrend: Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Peter: It's such a fascinating thing. People don't realize the power of certain things. Being a neuroscientist, we're talking about negative self-talk and how it lives in a certain space, how recently you found out that it's actually in another part of your brain that's your subconscious that you didn't even realize it's there, where that activity happens, ⁓ and like that too. Because it's such a fascinating thing with our brain, because we only use X amount of powers of our brain, percent of our brain, but there's so much other potential that could be unlocked in there. ⁓ Gail Behrend: Well, I'm going to say something a little ⁓ controversial. So from my perspective, anyway, this is my theory or my experience actually as a healer, but is that a lot of our capabilities are ascribed to the brain, but they actually come from our spirit. And the brain, in my opinion, is a transducer. So it's taking what's happening on our consciousness level, which is beyond the brain, it's... Peter: There you go, have! That's true. Gail Behrend: We have a field around us, which is where our consciousness, our psyche actually lives. The brain then responds to that. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: whatever the triggers are from the spirits, the consciousness side, to create the necessary neurotransmitters and that sort of thing, brain chemicals, it's echoing basically the spiritual experience in the body. So an engineer, I was a controls engineer. ⁓ so we did was we ⁓ were transducing, changing one signal to another. Peter: Mm-hmm. ⁓ yeah, very good point. Gail Behrend: ⁓ So we would be measuring pressure, but we had to read it on an indicator in the control room. So we had to translate that into electrical signal. And then that would come over wires to the control room. And then it would be translated into an indication. So a needle moving on a graph or something like that. so ⁓ theory. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: since I come from that background, is that the brain serves, it's a complicated transducer because it's a biochemical one it has some built-in circuitry, you like, ⁓ for you know, for dealing with sudden danger and that sort of thing because it has to be fast. You can't wait for the transducers so there's some built-in circuitry that helps protect us, right, in danger, but ⁓ and has some Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: built-in circuitry that relaxes again when the danger's over. So that's important. So it's a wonderful earth suit, if you like, very complicated, but it's not the thinker. The thinking's coming from beyond the body itself and the brain, ⁓ a marvelous, marvelous organ. It's our onboard computer. And the decisions ⁓ and emotions and the inference are being stored in the field. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: around our body it can extend as far as you can reach. So there's layers to it and ⁓ layer is the emotional body. So it actually stores emotional information. And then there's another layer closer to the body, which is storing more ⁓ information. So sensation and the sensations that you can actually pick up with your physical nerves, but they're being sensed energetically. when Peter: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: When I was experiencing that column of light, it wasn't coming through my physical senses. It felt physical, but it was actually coming through that part of my field. ⁓ so, and then there's a, ⁓ the Barbara Brennan School, if you're ever interested in learning more about this, she wrote a wonderful book, is a ⁓ seller that she wrote it in the 80s, but it's full of diagrams. And she herself was a NASA scientist, a physicist. Peter: Yeah. okay. see now I got to check this out. I'm interested. Yeah. Yeah, definitely see. That's really cool. Gail Behrend: Yes, and she is very cool. She was amazing, but she had she was born with the ability to see beyond the normal human range of vision. And so she could actually see energy. But you know, nobody would correlate it with corroborate it with her, right, because they couldn't see it. And so she thought she was making it up. So she went the scientific route, a scientist, ⁓ was only when she was dealing with I think she'd had a a terrible car crash or something and she was doing some body centered somatic and that's going to clear the trauma but also the the body's ⁓ whatever stored. But as she was ⁓ and was doing some ⁓ as a participant a group therapy situation and she started seeing people's auras ⁓ during that could see how their aura changed when they were feeling different things and that sort of thing. So now by then she was a physicist. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: So she said, huh, I wonder what the science is behind that. And so that. Peter: Yeah, definitely. I believe that's what she was going with that, especially with that much mental power that she's got. ⁓ yeah. Because if you think about it, the movie The Village, the other girl that's blind, the main character in movie says, ⁓ I can see your color. And I bet you that's what she was referring to, exactly what Barbara was dealing with, is that she could see the color of your aurora, you know, and things like that, too. So it's so interesting. Gail Behrend: Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yes, yes, yeah, yeah. So if you're interested, her book is called Hands of Light. Yeah, it's been, it's like, it's become like a textbook for a variety of healing modalities, including therapeutic touch and that sort of thing. And it's full of wonderful, wonderful illustrations, full color as well as, and she has three books out. She's longer alive, but ⁓ I with her. Peter: ⁓ I'm check that out for sure. I'm interested in whatever says. Susie said, is there a talk about like, yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: when she was still alive. so I was really blessed to receive her instruction along with 800 other students at the time, right? So it was a big school. Peter: ⁓ that's awesome. Yeah, but you have a NASA scientist in front of you teaching these. That's that has you so cool though. The credentials alone she had. Yeah. Gail Behrend: Yes, and I was an engineer. So that's what attracted me, right? Because yeah, I need somebody who's grounded. so I fit right in. I mean, that ⁓ spoke to my engineer side of me. But she also highly intuitive, too. And so it gave me permission to be both. ⁓ I didn't to be either or. I could be the whole. ⁓ so that a wonderful journey. It was deeply transformative, too, because of Peter: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Gail Behrend: We had to be in therapy. We were with deep emotions and trauma. And so it was a requirement of the program that we ⁓ ⁓ in therapy. Peter: Mm-hmm. Well, you know, a lot of people's therapists go to other therapists to have their own therapist, too. It's just funny because I think a lot of people forget that, too, that they they may be therapists themselves. They also are in therapy because of that reason exactly right there. Why Barbara required you guys to be in there? I mean, it makes sense, though. She she had everything figured out already, obviously, and that's a level NASA scientist level mind already thought about all those outcomes already ahead of time, which is great, too. So. Mm hmm. Gail Behrend: Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ she did. That's right. Yeah, and then she built this big school. but very few people have heard of it, you know, but if you're, I can highly recommend it. Yeah, definitely. Peter: I'm going to check out some of her work for sure. I'm definitely going check out her work for sure because I'm very interested. I want to know more. But Gail, we're at the part of the interview where I'm going to ask you two questions. And these are the ones I ask right before we start wrapping up. This first one's kind of a fun one for you, though. So my first question to you is that if your mental health had a song, what would you say that song would be? Gail Behrend: Yes, I think you would find it helpful. If what had a song? Peter: If your mental health had a song, what would you say that song would be? Like if you could describe your mental health currently, your current mood, what would you say, what song would best represent that for you? Gail Behrend: Hmm. Peter: It's always an interesting answer this one too, I'm telling you. A lot of people love this question. Gail Behrend: Well, the one that came popped into my mind, I don't know where it came from, was, don't worry, be happy. Peter: Okay, what was the one that popped your mind? Let's see, what you got for me? I love it. I love it. You know what? That was someone else's too. can't remember. That would be happy was. Gail Behrend: It's like we make things way more complicated than we need to. Peter: It was, God, what's his name? Paul Bauer, actually, he's a men's coach. He actually I think he actually said that was his song, too, was Don't Worry Be Happy, because I started laughing when he said that to me. was like, that's so great, dude. You know, and it's such a fun question because it's like, you know, music is a big thing for me. And that's like one of the things I use a lot of times when, you know, in a mood, you know, everybody uses music for something, any kind of anything about it. Music is the root of a lot of things. lot of people use that for healing, too. Sound healing and. Gail Behrend: Yeah, absolutely. Peter: all these other things and stuff like that. So it's really great to hear people's thoughts on how they would put their mental health into a song. You know, and so it's always a fun question. So my next question for you, the reason I started this whole podcast is that if you could break the stigma about the health of, we could say energy healing and anything, any principle energy too, if you like, you know, anything that you feel like you would just want people to believing that it's not real. Is there something you want to debunk for people right now? Any, anything that you hear that just kind of like drives you crazy? Gail Behrend: No, nothing drives me crazy these days. But what could say is that ⁓ mental is just a state you're in. It's not a definition of you. It's not your identity. Yeah. Yeah. And it's healable. Yeah. Yeah. And I think too many people identify with labels that limit you. Peter: Mm-hmm. I love it, Gail. I love it. Gail, I love it. There you go, Gail got it. Gail, I have to tell you a story about a girl really quick. meant that they made a similar statement you just did. She said that my mental doesn't define me as a person. It's just something I deal with. Basically along the same lines of what you just said. She's a good friend of the show. Her name's Whitney. She came on and she told us this crazy story. Like the story just goes up, down, upright. You're going everywhere. That is the exact statement she made, similar to long lines of what you just said is that. Gail Behrend: Exactly. Yeah. Peter: I deal with these things. I don't let it identify me as a person. It's just something I deal with. Gail Behrend: Yeah, it's exactly, and it's something that's shifting, can shift anytime. So it's not something you're locked into, it's just where you are now. You're in a state of becoming and quite possibly in a state of transformation, and that can look like, I mean, if somebody was in a dark night of a soul, that's a part of awakening. Peter: Mm-hmm. love it, Gail. I love it. Gail Behrend: And so it's maybe to conventionalize, it looks like they're losing it and they've got mental health problems. But from a spiritual perspective, it's, yeah, they're losing what doesn't work. And they just haven't gotten into the final state yet. I think I love the butterfly caterpillar metaphor, right? So basically, when you're a caterpillar transforming into the butterfly, you end up in the goo for a while. And that be the metaphor for mental illness. It's not permanent, it's a transition state. Yeah. ⁓ my pleasure. Peter: I love it. love it. Gail, thank you so much for coming and hanging out with me today. I absolutely loved having you. You're more welcome to come back anytime you read a new book. hit, I want to be the first person you hit up the minute you start writing something new. Hey Pete, I got a new book in the works. We're going to figure out the date. We're going like Gail, when's the date this thing's coming out? When are we doing this? Because you are going to, I want you to come back and talk to me. I enjoyed this conversation. Gail, before we wrap up this episode of Pete First's anxiety, go ahead and let people know where they can find you. Where's the best place to find you. Gail Behrend: Thank you. ⁓ thank you. Awesome. ⁓ thank you so much. Yeah. The best place to find me is on my website. So energyisreal.com should be fairly simple to remember. they can get, if they're interested in signing up for my newsletter, which I ⁓ confess ⁓ very but I'm to improve that. ⁓ Now it's on the but they can get a free sample, the first chapter of my book for free. Peter: Mm-hmm. Gail Behrend: and an exchange for signing up for my newsletter. So that give them, and the first chapter is all about how to sense energy. So ⁓ it's got six exercises in there for people who want to expand their energy awareness. So yeah. Peter: I'm gonna check that out for sure then. I love it. love it. Gail, thank you so much for coming to hang out with me today. I had a great time. Like I said, though, the next book you decide to write, I want to be the first person you reach out to and let me know so I can be like, all right, listen, we got to plan this thing, Gail. We got to get a plan of attack to have you come back and we can discuss the next book. So I definitely loved having you here. Do you have any last words for everybody before we sign off? Gail Behrend: My pleasure. Awesome. Thank you. would just like to ⁓ that ⁓ that I had ⁓ we are loved whether we know it or not and that all it takes is for us to turn our awareness in that direction and just open to it, might be. Inspiration is dying to flow to us. It to reach us. We're the ones putting the block in. And ⁓ if ⁓ just were at God because we felt God turned his back when we were in some of the... Even so, be willing to open up to it and see if you can sense the truth because the truth is there if we're open to it. Peter: I love you again. Thank you so much again for being here.
