- 0:00Speaker 1: All I want to do is sleep. It's one more thing.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Before we check in with Katie in the state of
- 0:10Speaker 2: our pregnancy. I need to finish up my story.
- 0:12Speaker 3: About being in assault mine on vacation. That thought Katie
- 0:15Speaker 3: was describing my lifestyle. All I want to sleep hasn't
- 0:20Speaker 3: been a moment in my life. I haven't wanted to
- 0:21Speaker 3: lie down.
- 0:23Speaker 2: So my kids and I toured a salt mine on vacation.
- 0:26Speaker 2: There's a salt mine in the middle of Kansas. And
- 0:28Speaker 2: if you're a film buff, you know this because this
- 0:30Speaker 2: is where all the ancient, old, well known films are stored,
- 0:34Speaker 2: like The Wizard of Oz, et cetera. Because way down
- 0:37Speaker 2: in the salt mine, temperature controlled, humidity controlled, nothing decays,
- 0:43Speaker 2: it doesn't deteriorate. That had a newspaper down there, a
- 0:46Speaker 2: copy of the New York Times from the day after
- 0:48Speaker 2: Lincoln was shot, and it was looking like looking at
- 0:50Speaker 2: a newspaper from that day, Oh my god, you would
- 0:54Speaker 2: have to go to settle the trouble to preserve that.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yeah, you know elsewhere on earth. Yeah.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And there's all kinds of stuff down there, movie memorabilia
- 1:02Speaker 2: like Batman uniforms and stuff like that, just stuff that
- 1:04Speaker 2: they store so it won't decay. One thing I did
- 1:08Speaker 2: learn about the salt mine that they opened up in
- 1:09Speaker 2: nineteen twenty is you didn't want to work in a
- 1:12Speaker 2: salt mine back in the twenties and thirties. Oh my god,
- 1:15Speaker 2: that looked like a hard job down there in the
- 1:17Speaker 2: pitch black except for your candles, hoping the thing didn't
- 1:20Speaker 2: cave in on you. Right, that's funny. We were taking
- 1:24Speaker 2: this tour and this guy was driving us around and
- 1:26Speaker 2: the little train down there in these dark, dark, long
- 1:29Speaker 2: tunnels in the salt mine, and then he's showing how
- 1:32Speaker 2: the roof SAgs sometimes and sometimes the sag can break
- 1:35Speaker 2: through and crush people. It was always I worry he
- 1:38Speaker 2: said that one's sagging like Madonna?
- 1:43Speaker 3: What appropriate?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Whaty line from a tour?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Guys in appropriate? AnyWho?
- 1:49Speaker 2: I wanted to mention this because everything stays preserved down there.
- 1:52Speaker 2: And I mentioned on the radio show all the garbage,
- 1:54Speaker 2: anything that goes down in the mind stays in the mine.
- 1:56Speaker 2: It's just too cost and effective to bring anything out
- 1:58Speaker 2: of the mine other than you're losing money if you
- 2:01Speaker 2: take anything out of the mind other than salt. So
- 2:03Speaker 2: anything that goes down there stays down there. Any bit
- 2:06Speaker 2: of garbage over the last one hundred and five years
- 2:09Speaker 2: is still down there, and it's perfectly preserved because of
- 2:12Speaker 2: the you know, as I described, with the humidity and whatnot.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So there's all kinds of like really old like from
- 2:18Speaker 2: the thirties, cigarette containers or whatever, or toilet paper from
- 2:23Speaker 2: people who'd pooped one hundred years ago.
- 2:27Speaker 3: A useful, invaluable historical lartifacts.
- 2:30Speaker 2: But here's something I didn't know. So they started they
- 2:33Speaker 2: originally they took donkeys down in the mind to try
- 2:35Speaker 2: to help with the work, but they would go blind
- 2:37Speaker 2: right away. And they found out human beings are this
- 2:40Speaker 2: way too. If you aren't using your corneas and everything
- 2:44Speaker 2: that you need to know, you've gotten your eyeball you
- 2:47Speaker 2: need to use for light. If you don't use them
- 2:49Speaker 2: at all for like three days, you go blind. That's
- 2:52Speaker 2: how that's how quick the atrophy. Wow, isn't that something
- 2:56Speaker 2: I'd never heard of that before? Terrifying it is, so anyway,
- 2:59Speaker 2: the donkeys will blind, and then they kept argument and
- 3:02Speaker 2: then they died down there because everything that goes into
- 3:03Speaker 2: mind stays the mind. So there are dead donkeys around this,
- 3:07Speaker 2: many hundreds of miles of minds various places, and they
- 3:09Speaker 2: would be perfectly intact, like the wind they died.
- 3:12Speaker 3: What like, are they still the same shape or are
- 3:15Speaker 3: they like skinny located?
- 3:16Speaker 2: No, they would look exactly the same. You got a
- 3:18Speaker 2: ninety year old dead burrel there.
- 3:21Speaker 3: The hell is amazing.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I know, it's quite something. Anyway, that's the end of
- 3:27Speaker 2: my down and assault my knowledge having to to dead donkeys.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I mean, so like their internal uh you know, uh bacteria.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Don't know. If you went up and like put your
- 3:40Speaker 3: hand on it, it would just like turn to dust.
- 3:42Speaker 3: But it looks exactly the same as when it died. Wow, yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 3: I know in other dead donkey news, Wait, no, there
- 3:50Speaker 3: is no other dead donkeys now.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And then strangest transition ever to how Katie's pregnancy is going.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Katie is pregnant. Yeah, case you didn't know, and we
- 4:00Speaker 2: know who the father is to your husband, we do.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Wow, Dad was inappropriate, It really was.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I'm just fringing everybody else.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Was never a question?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Was enough of the air at any point?
- 4:13Speaker 1: Nope?
- 4:14Speaker 2: But so, how how is being pregnant? He said? You
- 4:15Speaker 2: want to sleep all the time?
- 4:16Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I have never been this tired. In
- 4:20Speaker 1: my life.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Yeah, And.
- 4:23Speaker 4: So I finally made the I guess the announcement on
- 4:27Speaker 4: my social media the other day. And boy did I
- 4:30Speaker 4: think I was getting opinions beforehand? Oh boy, oh the
- 4:38Speaker 4: just wait and all that. But I had an interesting
- 4:40Speaker 4: interaction with someone who would not get off me about
- 4:46Speaker 4: telling them what his name's going to be. And yeah,
- 4:51Speaker 4: and that's something that I'm going to keep until he's here,
- 4:55Speaker 4: just because.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to hear it what some.
- 4:58Speaker 2: People do and some people don't. But if somebody if
- 5:00Speaker 2: I said, what are you gonna name them? And they
- 5:02Speaker 2: say we're gonna hold on to that, you.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Just say, okay, you don't like pride, Oh, unless you're
- 5:06Speaker 3: a piece of crap is a human being.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Oh.
- 5:09Speaker 4: They just kept going on and on about oh, well
- 5:12Speaker 4: this happened when I was naming my kid, and and
- 5:15Speaker 4: so one of the things that she did, she went, well,
- 5:19Speaker 4: I can just tell you that one of the names
- 5:21Speaker 4: that I thought was awful was and she said a name,
- 5:24Speaker 4: and so I wrote her back and I was like,
- 5:27Speaker 4: that's the name that we chose, a perfect And I
- 5:30Speaker 4: just waited a few seconds and I could see, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 4: you see the little type bubble coming in and I
- 5:35Speaker 4: finally hit her with that.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I'm just kidding, that wasn't it.
- 5:37Speaker 4: But I just felt like making her just sheer pants
- 5:40Speaker 4: for just a couple of seconds.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Indeed, Yeah, what an interesting personality quirk. Somebody tells you
- 5:47Speaker 2: we're not going to announce the name until the baby's born.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Come on, tell me and this tech.
- 5:51Speaker 4: This text thread went on for much longer than it should.
- 5:55Speaker 4: I should have just stopped responding. If you know I
- 5:58Speaker 4: we're going to do the right thing. But it went
- 5:59Speaker 4: on for an hour and a half.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Good lord, how close are we in this scenarios?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Relatively close?
- 6:08Speaker 4: Okay, might be putting up the wall a little bit
- 6:12Speaker 4: from from that experience though.
- 6:15Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean friend points there.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yeah right, you're gonna You're gonna stick with the name regardless.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I know some people pick multiple names and then depend
- 6:23Speaker 2: on what the baby looks like.
- 6:24Speaker 4: No, we we have landed on a name for him,
- 6:28Speaker 4: and then when we plan to have our second one
- 6:30Speaker 4: in a couple of years, we have her name as well.
- 6:32Speaker 2: You don't look like a Brandon, you look like an Aiden.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You're Aiden.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Well that's funny. Good for you approaching in any way.
- 6:39Speaker 3: You want. I think we kept our our options open
- 6:42Speaker 3: until it was time to do the name, and we
- 6:45Speaker 3: had a you know, a couple of things kicking around, ideas,
- 6:48Speaker 3: and just we waited till it was baby time, and
- 6:50Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, that's the one, but you know,
- 6:52Speaker 3: teach their own.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so we've we've got. I just I just wanted
- 6:57Speaker 1: to get it out of the way.
- 6:57Speaker 4: And like we we were talking about it back in
- 7:00Speaker 4: fourth and then when we landed on one and we
- 7:01Speaker 4: both went ooh, I like that, like perfect, let's just
- 7:04Speaker 4: leave it there.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You know, my son and I got on this conversation
- 7:07Speaker 2: the other day about names. I'm amazed more people don't
- 7:11Speaker 2: change their names.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Because it's so cheap.
- 7:13Speaker 2: It like it. It doesn't cost hardly anything to change
- 7:15Speaker 2: your name. You'd think you'd think more people would decide
- 7:19Speaker 2: I don't want to be Jack or whatever and would
- 7:22Speaker 2: change their name to something they like better. But almost
- 7:26Speaker 2: nobody does.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that is funny, because especially kids are all about
- 7:31Speaker 3: eye and I don't like my name. I wish I wasn't,
- 7:33Speaker 3: you know whatever, right, Yeah, it's funny. It'd be a
- 7:37Speaker 3: pain in the ass, I think, you know, running into
- 7:40Speaker 3: paperwork difficulties and fill out forms and stuff like that.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Maybe that's it. There's paperwork involved. It's not the cost,
- 7:47Speaker 3: it's the forms.
- 7:48Speaker 4: You got to change your email probably and all your
- 7:51Speaker 4: doctor descriptions.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, i'd changed my name to Bob.
- 7:55Speaker 3: You could spell it forwards and backwards the same and
- 7:57Speaker 3: a good point a lot of fund kick ass. That
- 8:01Speaker 3: would be what I go with. Now, some states you
- 8:04Speaker 3: got to get approval for it, and in your more
- 8:07Speaker 3: metalsome states it would probably say no, no captain, and
- 8:11Speaker 3: I would spell it c a p apostrophe and captain
- 8:14Speaker 3: kick ass.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Cat be pretty good.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Captain.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Everybody has to call me captain.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Uh you gonna tell us the name?
- 8:24Speaker 2: Uh?
- 8:24Speaker 3: No, No, I'll tell you.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I'll tell you guys off the podcast.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Jack, Joe, Mike, Mike is Jack. I don't want to know.
- 8:30Speaker 3: I want your options open.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I feel like I'd be invading your space if I.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Know you guys.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I talked to you guys, more than I talk to
- 8:37Speaker 1: anybody else in my life.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Yeah, that's sad, isn't it.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Shut up?
- 8:43Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 8:45Speaker 2: Is that one of your Brandon aiden you know?
- 8:48Speaker 1: No, they're both. They're both Irish names, Okay, Irish, I
- 8:52Speaker 1: guess I am Irish and so is Drew.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Okay, so Chauncey. Chauncey is Chauncy Irish.
- 9:00Speaker 3: H it's certainly uh uk Ish British.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Isle Zi, Yeah, it's not Chauncey.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yeah. Seamus, No, it's not Seamous. I like, uh, it's
- 9:12Speaker 3: got shame in it. You can't go with it. Although
- 9:14Speaker 3: I've known a couple of Seamuses in my life, they've
- 9:16Speaker 3: been lovely fellas.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I know, I've only known one and he should have
- 9:18Speaker 2: been ashamed.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Oh really interesting.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Oh yeah about McGregor Gonor, No, it's not McGregor.
- 9:27Speaker 2: We'll just keep guessing Irish names for like another forty minutes.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You know, I don't think you guys will guess it.
- 9:33Speaker 1: And also, I'm one of the other reasons.
- 9:35Speaker 4: I was really happy about it is that Drew and
- 9:37Speaker 4: I both don't know anybody with this name.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, just beware.
- 9:42Speaker 3: This is why you keep your options open. Judy and
- 9:44Speaker 3: I seriously had never heard of any girl named Caitlin
- 9:48Speaker 3: when we normed, when we named Kate and then subsequently
- 9:51Speaker 3: became one of the most popular names you know in
- 9:53Speaker 3: the country for a long time, to the point that
- 9:54Speaker 3: I think she at times she had two or three
- 9:57Speaker 3: in each class. Yeah, ridiculous.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I'm a Caitlin and that's that is acting.
- 10:03Speaker 2: That's right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, And you know he can't
- 10:06Speaker 2: win with kids because I was always the only in
- 10:10Speaker 2: every class I was in, there was never another Jack,
- 10:12Speaker 2: and I hated that. It seemed weird that I was
- 10:14Speaker 2: the only one. And then there's kids that were two
- 10:16Speaker 2: Mics and four Steves and everything like that. They hated
- 10:18Speaker 2: that that so there's no winning.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Yeah. How do you feel about if like your your
- 10:24Speaker 3: your husband's mostly Italian, American whatever. I got a little
- 10:27Speaker 3: Greek in there, and you're from wherever else but not England,
- 10:31Speaker 3: not Ireland, not the British, and you go with Caitlin,
- 10:34Speaker 3: which is the Irish form of Catherine. That that shouldn't
- 10:38Speaker 3: be allowed. You shouldn't be able to get just seize
- 10:41Speaker 3: a name unless you have credentials.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Really, you know what I mean? If you don't have
- 10:46Speaker 2: any Irish you don't think you should be able to
- 10:47Speaker 2: name your kid Caitlyn.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yeah right, yeah, that's out it bounds Hull.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Get your own names, Get your own names.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Don't you be trespassing on my ethnicity snatching up our
- 11:01Speaker 3: groovy names? Huh?
- 11:03Speaker 2: Never thought about that before.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Name appropriation.
- 11:06Speaker 2: We yeah, exactly, name appropriation. Well, I'm glad I didn't
- 11:08Speaker 2: accidentally do it.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Here's a little Irish name trivia because it always annoys me.
- 11:13Speaker 3: The paddy wagon is not the paddy wagon. It's the
- 11:15Speaker 3: pad d wagon with d's And it's not short for
- 11:18Speaker 3: Patrick Patrick. It's short for padrig p A d r
- 11:23Speaker 3: A I G. The paddy wagon a slur against my people.
- 11:28Speaker 3: And if you want a drunk punch in the face,
- 11:30Speaker 3: you'll keep saying paddy wagon.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Okay, it's facts.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Yeah, take that, you bigots. Hey Katie, have you had
- 11:40Speaker 3: any weird food cravings that happened my sister, my mom?
- 11:43Speaker 3: I have.
- 11:45Speaker 4: I cannot stop eating salt and vinegar chips and I
- 11:50Speaker 4: I see Sultan vinegar.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I actually funny story.
- 11:54Speaker 4: I went to the store the other day to pick
- 11:55Speaker 4: up some stuff for my mom and dad, and I
- 12:00Speaker 4: got the things, and then I also went down the
- 12:02Speaker 4: chip aisle and bought four bags of salt and vinegar
- 12:07Speaker 4: chips plus a Pringles container because I had other errands
- 12:11Speaker 4: to run and didn't want to open a bag. But
- 12:13Speaker 4: I knew that the Pringles container would fit in my
- 12:15Speaker 4: cup holder in my car.
- 12:16Speaker 3: It's just in your cup holder chip holders. Awesome. Yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 3: that's just good thinking. Well, you don't want to run
- 12:22Speaker 3: out in inclement weather or something like that.
- 12:24Speaker 4: So smart to stock up now, people there. That would
- 12:26Speaker 4: be dangerous for other people if I ran out on a.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Chocole bell kick when she was pregnant. What some particular
- 12:34Speaker 2: thing at Taco Bell that she just couldn't get enough of?
- 12:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's it's those salt and vinegar chips and
- 12:39Speaker 4: then fro yo frozen yogurt.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I can't stop eating.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Well, you're eating for two.
- 12:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's everything is Yeah, the thing the things
- 12:49Speaker 4: the woman bought, the woman's body can do, Yes, amazing.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'm kind of showing. But where I'm really showing.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Or the girls, like I've had to buy like new
- 12:58Speaker 4: over the shoulder boulder holder and whatnot.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Yeah, the boob fairies come to visit.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I do not want to hear another about this. Well,
- 13:07Speaker 2: I guess that's it.
