Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garret.
- 0:05Speaker 2: All right, and welcome to One Leg Up with Alex Scarrett.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And to start off this week, I got to play
- 0:11Speaker 2: the clip where I got to ask a World Series
- 0:14Speaker 2: champion for the New York Yankees a question on AM
- 0:17Speaker 2: nine seven and the answer specifically Culinary Confidential with Christina Cats.
- 0:23Speaker 2: All right, So remember how I had Christina on my
- 0:26Speaker 2: podcast weeks after she called into Lucas Ferraro's show Shake
- 0:31Speaker 2: It Off on AM nine seven. The answer, Well, that
- 0:35Speaker 2: podcast led to her getting a radio show every Sunday
- 0:38Speaker 2: night nine to ten pm. And guess what, we had
- 0:43Speaker 2: Johnny Damon on the show last night, and I got
- 0:46Speaker 2: to ask the World Series champion himself about those two
- 0:50Speaker 2: thousand and nine walk offs. Remember how almost every game
- 0:54Speaker 2: there was a walk off for the Yankees and he
- 0:56Speaker 2: and Burnett and Swisher were part of that energy every
- 0:59Speaker 2: walk off win. Well, I got to ask Johnny Damon,
- 1:02Speaker 2: thanks to Christina Kates, about that very question on last
- 1:06Speaker 2: night's Culinary Confidential with Christina's Kate producing association with Lucas
- 1:12Speaker 2: A Ferrara. Listen, Alexy Engineer has a question he wants
- 1:16Speaker 2: to ask you. Well, I know We've seen you other
- 1:18Speaker 2: on the stadium a long time ago, so this is
- 1:20Speaker 2: great to reconnect with Christina's show your walk off wins
- 1:24Speaker 2: and O nine though, you guys were so much energetic
- 1:26Speaker 2: and you Swisher and Burnett led the charge after every
- 1:29Speaker 2: walk off. Tells about that specifically because I had fun
- 1:32Speaker 2: watching all the walk offs of nine.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we had such a great team that year.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I mean, our lineup, you can put it up against
- 1:42Speaker 1: any in the history of baseball. When you're eight and
- 1:47Speaker 1: nine hitters or Nick Swisher, Milkie Cabrera, I would say
- 1:50Speaker 1: that's that's pretty good. But the walkoff wins, I remember
- 1:54Speaker 1: we had so many in a row with Thin. We
- 1:58Speaker 1: had a no guy at it, Like if we were
- 2:00Speaker 1: down in the game, We're like, we know how to
- 2:02Speaker 1: come back. We've done it plenty of times this year.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So we had a team that I wish we could
- 2:09Speaker 1: have stayed together for a few more years, but especially
- 2:13Speaker 1: with the pitching staff with Burnette and CC. But those
- 2:18Speaker 1: walk offs are fun. AJ Burnett was keing at flapping
- 2:25Speaker 1: shaven cream in your face at first, but I do
- 2:28Speaker 1: know that we switched to cool whip later because shaven
- 2:33Speaker 1: cream just absolutely crushed our eyes and sure, and we
- 2:38Speaker 1: love the taste of cool whip, so of course we
- 2:41Speaker 1: got to do that. We're on a culinary show. That's right,
- 2:43Speaker 1: don't you forget it.
- 2:45Speaker 2: While he was promoting his new drink a game, actually,
- 2:48Speaker 2: Christina made some news with Johnny Damon. She asked him
- 2:52Speaker 2: about the facial hair policy. This highly topical and highly
- 2:57Speaker 2: someone's a controversial rollback of tradition and the New York Yankees.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Can we talk about how you were known as the
- 3:03Speaker 1: cave Man? What is that reference regarding Well, the cave
- 3:07Speaker 1: man has to be with my beard and my long hair.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So in two thousand and three, I ended the season
- 3:14Speaker 1: getting a concussion and I never should have played in
- 3:18Speaker 1: that series against the Yankees because I was absolutely wiped
- 3:22Speaker 1: out after the first inning. So during the off season
- 3:26Speaker 1: I had to go see a chiropractor all the time.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I was sleeping all the time. My concussion was so
- 3:31Speaker 1: bad that people want to see it, they can go
- 3:34Speaker 1: to sports science Johnny Damon, and it's every time I
- 3:38Speaker 1: see it, I cry. It's so awful. And then during
- 3:44Speaker 1: the off season, like February rolled around and I'm still
- 3:49Speaker 1: not moving, not working out, and like my hair's long.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I always grew my beard during the off season because
- 3:56Speaker 1: I always go skiing, which are not supposed to but
- 3:58Speaker 1: I love snow skiing'll so everything was growing. And then
- 4:04Speaker 1: all of a sudden, one day, I was like, I
- 4:06Speaker 1: need to start working out. So I live in this
- 4:09Speaker 1: town in Florida where there's a twenty five miles per
- 4:12Speaker 1: hour speed limits sign, and I'm very fast, So when
- 4:19Speaker 1: these cars would start coming by, I would try to
- 4:21Speaker 1: make work out and have fun. So I would start
- 4:25Speaker 1: racing these cars, and a lot of people said, there's
- 4:28Speaker 1: a caveman like the running down cars, and so that's
- 4:32Speaker 1: where a cave man came and with my long hair,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and yes, I love it. I kind of looked like
- 4:38Speaker 1: the guy from the Guyico commercials, so I think they
- 4:42Speaker 1: made him because of me. How did you feel about
- 4:45Speaker 1: having to cut it all off when you join the Yankees?
- 4:49Speaker 1: You know what, George stein brother was the boss. He
- 4:52Speaker 1: was paying me thirteen million dollars a year. I was
- 4:55Speaker 1: going to respect what the boss wanted and the tradition
- 4:59Speaker 1: of the New Year Yankees, and I wasn't going to
- 5:02Speaker 1: argue that it's just a guy I am. I feel
- 5:05Speaker 1: like I'm a professional about going about my business like
- 5:09Speaker 1: whatever the boss wants, you'd better pay attention or you're
- 5:12Speaker 1: not going to have this job. That's great.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I'm so excited that this show has launched and now
- 5:19Speaker 2: welcomed a world series champion on Culinary Confidential because you know,
- 5:25Speaker 2: it's it's just special to see the evolution from this
- 5:27Speaker 2: podcast to radio. Now welcoming Yankee and Yes, Red Sox
- 5:33Speaker 2: loyalty to her show. Christina keep growing and we're proud
- 5:37Speaker 2: of here at one leg up with Alex Garrett. We'll
- 5:40Speaker 2: talk to you soon.
