Latest / Bleacher Report / LeSean McCoy: Why the Rams 'Super Team' Isn't Dead Yet
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the alert that delighted me the most this weekend.
- 0:04Speaker 1: The Los Angeles Rams have fallen to 2-4 after losing
- 0:09Speaker 1: to the Arizona Cardinals, a team that everyone thought would
- 0:12Speaker 1: be the worst team in the NFL this year, beating
- 0:15Speaker 1: the team that everyone thought would be the best team
- 0:17Speaker 1: in the NFL this year. The Cardinals didn't score a touchdown,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and they still managed to beat this Rams team, a
- 0:23Speaker 1: team that has the reigning MVP. They have Puka Nakua.
- 0:27Speaker 1: They have Kyron Williams. They have a now injured Devontae
- 0:30Speaker 1: Adams who's going to miss a lot of time. But
- 0:32Speaker 1: everyone thought this was the super team. Me too, man.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And guess what? They're not. And I have a little
- 0:38Speaker 1: surprise for you, Shady. We've talked about the Rams. And
- 0:40Speaker 1: I had the producers pull a clip from last week
- 0:43Speaker 1: about something that we said about the Rams. So let's
- 0:46Speaker 1: go ahead and roll that clip right now. Let me
- 0:48Speaker 1: look back. Let's see it. Let's see it. I want
- 0:50Speaker 1: to hear your top five Super Bowl contenders right now.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Now, my boy Aaron Donald, one of my best friends,
- 0:56Speaker 2: he said, Shady, I had two padded practices.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Before I even played. That's nothing. That's crazy. Sat out
- 1:00Speaker 1: for two years.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Imagine having a car that sat for two years and
- 1:02Speaker 2: you never started. And you just crank it up a
- 1:04Speaker 2: little bit. So I'm going with him to number five.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I said that? Who was that? That was you.
- 1:11Speaker 1: That brother looked handsome. That wasn't me. That wasn't you?
- 1:15Speaker 1: The Rams are dead. I did not put them in
- 1:18Speaker 1: my top five last week because of concerns about defense,
- 1:22Speaker 1: concerns about the special teams. They lost another kicker this week.
- 1:26Speaker 1: They're on their third kicker of the season. I also
- 1:29Speaker 1: think the play calling has been kind of interesting in
- 1:31Speaker 1: these close games from Sean McVay. I'm not a big believer.
- 1:35Speaker 1: The Rams are dead. This team is not winning the
- 1:36Speaker 1: Super Bowl. They will not be winning a second Super
- 1:39Speaker 1: Bowl in their home stadium. The Super Bowl is back
- 1:41Speaker 1: at SoFi this year. It's over. The NFC, the team
- 1:46Speaker 1: they lost to on opening week, the 49ers are much
- 1:49Speaker 1: better than them. The whole NFC North is better than them.
- 1:54Speaker 1: The Rams are done. I'm ready to put that. I
- 1:56Speaker 1: see the gravestones behind me. I'm a hater. I don't care.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm done. I'm so happy. They also have a ton
- 2:02Speaker 1: of injuries. Don't care. Rams are dead.
- 2:04Speaker 2: You know, times like this, all you can do right
- 2:07Speaker 2: now is just.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Let's just pray. You're not giving up on them? No,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not. And this is why. Why?
- 2:14Speaker 2: We have a quarterback like Matthew Stafford and a head
- 2:16Speaker 2: coach like Sean McVay, right?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I look at the defense. Now, you kind of improve
- 2:20Speaker 2: the secondary. And then Aaron Donald comes back.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, you can slowly see he's getting back to
- 2:25Speaker 1: that elite level, right?
- 2:27Speaker 2: I think if maybe next three, four games, I think
- 2:30Speaker 2: he's back.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Okay. And then if he comes back, you heard about
- 2:33Speaker 1: the big dog. That's the big dog they got. They
- 2:35Speaker 1: call him Miles Garrett. The best player.
- 2:36Speaker 2: When he comes back, now I think we got our
- 2:39Speaker 2: whole team together. Listen, dog, the freaking Avengers lost sometimes.
- 2:43Speaker 2: They didn't win every fight they had.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Okay? But the big battle, the end game, they won that.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And I do think that they can battle back.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And once they get back, who wants to see a complete,
- 2:53Speaker 2: healthy– LA Rams team in the playoffs.
- 2:56Speaker 1: They're two and four. That's okay. Like this is not,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I think it's too late for it. You can't be
- 3:02Speaker 1: losing to the Arizona Cardinals. You can't be losing to
- 3:06Speaker 1: this team. No, I know it's a divisional game and that,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and that matters. Yes. You can't lose to the Cardinals
- 3:11Speaker 1: at home. Mind you at home, you know, this soccer
- 3:14Speaker 1: fans watch the world cup this year. A little bit,
- 3:17Speaker 1: a little bit. You've probably heard the name Lamine Yamal. Nope.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Lamine Yamal won the world cup this year. He's the
- 3:21Speaker 1: next great soccer player in the world. He has more
- 3:24Speaker 1: wins at SoFi Stadium this year than the L.A. Rams do. Listen, man. Football?
- 3:28Speaker 1: You're talking about football, right? I'm talking about football. I'm
- 3:30Speaker 1: talking about the real football. And the real football, right?
- 3:33Speaker 1: You got to win games. You got to have a
- 3:34Speaker 1: top offense. You got to win games. They're not winning games.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And they got a top offense and a top defense.
- 3:38Speaker 1: They're top three in both. So that lets me know
- 3:40Speaker 1: they're close. Now, I get it. We've seen this before. Now,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I get it.
- 3:43Speaker 2: They did lose to the Cardinals. If they lose to
- 3:45Speaker 2: the Cardinals, you should be, like, cursed for, like, years
- 3:47Speaker 2: to come.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I get that. But this is a marathon. This ain't
- 3:50Speaker 1: a race. And they are 2-4 right now.
- 3:52Speaker 2: If they put some games together, what team in the league,
- 3:55Speaker 2: if you had to pick ones, you know what?
- 3:57Speaker 1: You had some losses. I want y'all to go on
- 3:59Speaker 1: a 4-5 game run. What team would you pick? Would
- 4:01Speaker 1: you pick the Rams?
- 4:03Speaker 2: If you had to pick one team, you're going to run.
- 4:06Speaker 1: What about the Niners? What about the Jags? What about
- 4:09Speaker 1: the Chiefs? Everybody that can beat them, they can beat
- 4:12Speaker 1: them as well. They haven't done it. They lost to
- 4:15Speaker 1: the Broncos. It's only been five since game.
- 4:17Speaker 2: It's only been five since game so far.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They got time. I'm just not moved. The vibes aren't
- 4:23Speaker 1: great either. Kyron Williams, after this game, on why the
- 4:26Speaker 1: energy has been up and down on drive-to-drive, he says,
- 4:28Speaker 1: I couldn't tell you, bro, probably because I haven't not
- 4:30Speaker 1: been out there. That's not something you want to hear
- 4:32Speaker 1: from your running star running back.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Well, I think it's a message, though, because if you notice,
- 4:36Speaker 2: it's always trying to get the best player from the
- 4:39Speaker 2: cheaper price, right? And they've been messing with his reps.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I think it's time to go let him play. He's
- 4:44Speaker 2: a damn good player.
- 4:45Speaker 1: You mentioned a team that can go on a run.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I want to run through the schedule, the next seven
- 4:49Speaker 1: games for the Rams, and see if you can find
- 4:51Speaker 1: that run. First off, they play my Raiders in Vegas
- 4:55Speaker 1: this weekend, and they are on upset watch because my Raiders...
- 5:00Speaker 1: They're going to do justice for me, and they are
- 5:02Speaker 1: going to beat this Rams team in Las Vegas. If
- 5:04Speaker 1: you watch it, this Raiders team is not bad. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 1: They got some losses now. They fight, though. They fight.
- 5:09Speaker 1: They fight.
- 5:10Speaker 2: They fight against good teams. And it's hard to argue
- 5:12Speaker 2: against you just because if you can lose to the
- 5:14Speaker 2: Cardinals at home, I mean, you can lose to the Rams.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's not like Rams fans are going to travel to Vegas.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you can lose anybody. That place is going to
- 5:21Speaker 1: be packed. Raiders are going to win that one. Then
- 5:24Speaker 1: they get the Chargers, which as much as I'm a
- 5:26Speaker 1: Rams hater, I think they could beat the Chargers. So
- 5:29Speaker 1: that might be two wins right there. No. One and one.
- 5:32Speaker 1: One and one. Then they get at the Commanders, which...
- 5:36Speaker 1: That defense or the Commanders right now is not looking good.
- 5:40Speaker 1: That team is just weird. I will say, though, we've
- 5:42Speaker 1: seen– I believe that game is an earlier game, too.
- 5:45Speaker 1: We've seen those West Coast teams go east, have really
- 5:48Speaker 1: struggled this season. You think Seattle lost to the Commanders,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and Seattle's a Super Bowl contender. So that's a weird one.
- 5:53Speaker 1: They get their revenge game against the Cardinals after that.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Then they go– So, wait, stop. Hold up. I'm sorry.
- 5:58Speaker 1: That's the run right there. No, no, no. So, I mean,
- 6:01Speaker 1: I know you're a Raiders fan, but like– Chargers, Commanders, Cardinals.
- 6:06Speaker 1: That's four you think they can win. You think they
- 6:07Speaker 1: can win those first four? Yeah. I think they're going
- 6:10Speaker 1: to lose one of them, and it's going to be
- 6:11Speaker 1: the Raiders. I think the Raiders right now are just
- 6:14Speaker 1: as good of a team.
- 6:14Speaker 2: As the Raiders right now.
- 6:16Speaker 1: What are they, 6-2? If they win those four, they
- 6:20Speaker 1: would go to 6-4. You're back in the ballgame. Listen
- 6:24Speaker 1: to this after this. They play the Packers. In L.A.,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but that'll be all Packers fans. And they play the Chiefs,
- 6:29Speaker 1: which will be all Chiefs fans. And then they get
- 6:32Speaker 1: the Niners game. The original game. So I think they
- 6:37Speaker 1: lose all three of those. They can go from 6-4
- 6:38Speaker 1: to 6-7, just like that.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Not 9-5, but 9-5.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Because you win them three games. Yeah. And then you
- 6:41Speaker 1: probably lose to the Chiefs. Yeah. They're hanging. Oh, I'm back. Oh,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'm back. They're going to lose to the Raiders, though. Oh,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I'm back, baby. They're going to lose to the Raiders,
- 6:54Speaker 1: and then I think they can win three in a row,
- 6:56Speaker 1: but then they lose three in a row right after that.
- 6:58Speaker 1: This is an 8-9 team change.
- 7:00Speaker 2: We can't be serious if you're going to just tell
- 7:02Speaker 2: me a guaranteed loss to the Raiders.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Like, huh? What?
