- 0:07Speaker 1: All right, hello and welcome back to Twins Cities Territory,
- 0:10Speaker 1: our Minnesota Twins podcast here on the Foul Territory Network,
- 0:15Speaker 1: and we are coming to you on Wednesday, April twenty second,
- 0:18Speaker 1: fresh off a pretty fun win for the Twins over
- 0:22Speaker 1: the reeling New York Mets, who lost their twelfth straight game.
- 0:27Speaker 1: It was a heck of a game, guys. Twins looked
- 0:30Speaker 1: pretty helpless through the first to five innings against Nolan McLain,
- 0:34Speaker 1: but we're able to muster a rally when the game,
- 0:36Speaker 1: bullpen stepped up, bats came through when they needed to,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and overall Dan who was there in at Cold City Field,
- 0:46Speaker 1: probably an important win for a team that had just
- 0:48Speaker 1: come off of four game losing streak.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it was especially the bullpen like delivering after a
- 0:55Speaker 2: really tough weekend where they got blew a couple leads
- 0:59Speaker 2: on Saturday Sunday and put in four perfect innings up
- 1:04Speaker 2: And it was really funny. By the way, we were
- 1:05Speaker 2: talking about last night, Noel McLain had five perfect names
- 1:08Speaker 2: to start the game. The Twins bullpen finished it with
- 1:11Speaker 2: four perfect names. So we did see sort of a
- 1:14Speaker 2: reverse perfect game last night. But to see them rally
- 1:19Speaker 2: the way they did, because they looked helpless, listless, just deflated.
- 1:24Speaker 2: The first five innings not a single hard hit ball.
- 1:26Speaker 2: There was one hard hit ball is ninety five point
- 1:29Speaker 2: zero miles prior the hardest hit ball the Twins had
- 1:32Speaker 2: was ninety four point nine. They struck out eight times.
- 1:35Speaker 2: There was just a lot of weak contact contact when
- 1:39Speaker 2: they were able to make it. We did a little
- 1:41Speaker 2: mock cheer when they put the ball in play three times,
- 1:44Speaker 2: and I think it was the fourth inning because they
- 1:48Speaker 2: put the ball in play three times. I mean, McLean,
- 1:49Speaker 2: was that good? I still this is my twenty season
- 1:52Speaker 2: covering baseball. I have never covered a no hitter. I
- 1:55Speaker 2: thought there was a really good chance last night was
- 1:57Speaker 2: going to be the night I've seen the Cubs win
- 1:59Speaker 2: the War series. In person, I saw Bonds, ty Hank
- 2:02Speaker 2: Aaron seeing a couple of cycles. Never seen a no hitter.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Noelan McClain had the stuff last night.
- 2:08Speaker 3: And what's the closest you've come to seeing, you know.
- 2:11Speaker 2: The Technically I started out the Dylan Cease eight and
- 2:16Speaker 2: two thirds game against the Twins in twenty twenty two.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I left during the middle of the game, so that
- 2:22Speaker 2: was technically I started that game. I've gone into the
- 2:26Speaker 2: eighth innning a couple of times. Ken Sebida had a
- 2:29Speaker 2: really good game in the twenty twenty season for the Twins,
- 2:34Speaker 2: but that whole year is blocked out of my memory.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I can't remember how close he got. It was very close.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I think it was like seven and two thirds or
- 2:41Speaker 2: something like that. Yeah, I've never really gotten that close.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And it felt like that was the way it was going.
- 2:48Speaker 2: They turned it up, and they came back and fire
- 2:50Speaker 2: and bucks first, Matt Wallner singled, he Buston then homered,
- 2:54Speaker 2: and Buxton said Wallner woke them up because they weren't
- 2:57Speaker 2: worried about getting a hit anymore. They could focus on
- 3:00Speaker 2: just putting together good at bats. And but you know,
- 3:04Speaker 2: Buckston's home run definitely caught the attention of that stadium.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And the Mets are miserable right now. You can sense
- 3:13Speaker 2: the fans angst with every little swing, and that was
- 3:17Speaker 2: a big one. So when Buckston did that, it was like, oh,
- 3:20Speaker 2: this actually could happen. And man, it's hilarious that the Twins,
- 3:24Speaker 2: with effectively a seventy five million dollar payroll, took down
- 3:28Speaker 2: the Mets with their two hundred plus million dollar payroll
- 3:30Speaker 2: and added to their twelfth their twelfth straight victory or
- 3:36Speaker 2: twelfth straight loss, their longest losing streak since two thousand
- 3:39Speaker 2: and two. There was some comedy in that, for sure.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I have a I guess it's like an ESPN debate
- 3:47Speaker 1: show hot take maybe about Maybe it's mild, I don't know,
- 3:50Speaker 1: but I think it was the best win of the
- 3:52Speaker 1: season so far for the Twins, just because they've had
- 3:56Speaker 1: some come from behind victories to this point, but usually
- 4:01Speaker 1: it was the kind where like they get down one
- 4:02Speaker 1: nothing and then score seven runs and you know, win
- 4:06Speaker 1: seven to four, whatever that sort of thing. I know,
- 4:08Speaker 1: it's Game twenty three. I know the Mets are now
- 4:10Speaker 1: by record, the worst team in baseball. So my usual
- 4:13Speaker 1: caveat of not overreacting, but like we talked about it
- 4:17Speaker 1: on a Monday Show, Tyler, like you're playing a team
- 4:21Speaker 1: that is desperate for a win, eleven straight losses going
- 4:24Speaker 1: into yesterday, and I think like as it hit ten
- 4:27Speaker 1: and then eleven, the noise around it has really amplified.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It's become a national story now, like how bad the
- 4:34Speaker 1: Mets have been, and so you're going in there, you
- 4:36Speaker 1: know they're you know they're hungry, you're on a losing streak,
- 4:40Speaker 1: you know of your own at four games, getting absolutely
- 4:43Speaker 1: dominated by Nolan McLain for five innings. Meanwhile, Simon Woods
- 4:47Speaker 1: Richardson was laboring through that game like the Mets were
- 4:51Speaker 1: not fooled by his splitter at all.
- 4:54Speaker 3: It was like a split just let that one go.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It's going to fall out of the zone for a ball,
- 4:57Speaker 1: and then he makes that mistake to Lindor and three
- 4:59Speaker 1: to two. I mean, he wanted to throw a strike obviously,
- 5:02Speaker 1: but it was middle middle of the door, puts it
- 5:04Speaker 1: into third deck, and like the stadium celebrated like it
- 5:09Speaker 1: was a yeah, like it was an eighth or ninth
- 5:11Speaker 1: inning game changing home run or an October home run,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and they should because they're that desperate for a win.
- 5:17Speaker 3: It was a huge moment.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And that's my point is like halfway through that game,
- 5:21Speaker 1: perfect game against you, you're down three nothing. I think
- 5:24Speaker 1: that feeling of we'll get them tomorrow could have crept
- 5:27Speaker 1: in pretty easily.
- 5:28Speaker 3: It didn't.
- 5:29Speaker 1: They obviously came back to bullpen reverse the perfect game,
- 5:31Speaker 1: as Dan point out. But what I'm getting to a
- 5:34Speaker 1: question for Tyler is I feel like that is the
- 5:36Speaker 1: kind of game, regardless of the opponent, regardless of the circumstances,
- 5:40Speaker 1: that you can look back on in July, August, September,
- 5:43Speaker 1: if you're still contending, and if you know, if it's
- 5:45Speaker 1: Trek Scooble or someone else who's dominating you, you can go, hey, like,
- 5:49Speaker 1: we've been here before and we know we can still
- 5:50Speaker 1: win this game.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I kind of mentioned that about the Detroit series when
- 5:56Speaker 4: that happened, and the same thing for this one. You
- 5:58Speaker 4: know that's McLean used Team USA. You know, he's kind
- 6:01Speaker 4: of probably the best guy rolling right now. Like you
- 6:05Speaker 4: hung with him, I guess you know he got you
- 6:07Speaker 4: for a while, you know, Sim to Sim's defense, you know,
- 6:12Speaker 4: when he left the game, it was still close. You know,
- 6:14Speaker 4: it was never like you said, it was always within reach.
- 6:17Speaker 4: But that through in Homer, like that's that dip and
- 6:20Speaker 4: you're just say, Okay, lind Door's here.
- 6:23Speaker 3: We don't have a base.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Runner yet, Like what are we gonna do? And you know,
- 6:27Speaker 4: to like Dan's point to what Buck said, He's like,
- 6:30Speaker 4: you know the door was open with Wallner's knock, you
- 6:32Speaker 4: know that that kind of all right, the weights lifted off,
- 6:36Speaker 4: and that's what we keep coming back to that point.
- 6:38Speaker 4: It's got to be somebody different every game, and it
- 6:41Speaker 4: still kind of is like Byron did his thing, but
- 6:44Speaker 4: it took guys getting on base and things like that
- 6:47Speaker 4: to make his homer more valuable. You know, you give
- 6:49Speaker 4: a bunch of solo shots, you're gonna be okay. But
- 6:51Speaker 4: you have a bunch of throughwn homers, you're gonna lose
- 6:53Speaker 4: those games. And so as a hitter, like to Buck's point,
- 6:57Speaker 4: you can kind of take that breath and now no
- 7:01Speaker 4: next time around, like, hey we got this, we can
- 7:03Speaker 4: we can battle this out, we can hold off, you know,
- 7:06Speaker 4: get to a team's bullpen, which obviously last night paid
- 7:09Speaker 4: huge dividends, like you know, being patient. You know obviously
- 7:13Speaker 4: Williams inning kind of fell apart on him there, but that's.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Sometimes how you got to work.
- 7:18Speaker 4: You just got to fight through the starter or whoever
- 7:20Speaker 4: it is and stay in the game, which I think
- 7:22Speaker 4: the Twins so far can do. You know, guys have
- 7:25Speaker 4: been putting up five six innings with a couple of runs.
- 7:29Speaker 3: That's a good recipe for success. And then you know.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Sands comes in and close the door. It's you know,
- 7:34Speaker 4: it's a two inning outings like is he available to night.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 7:37Speaker 4: You know, I don't know how efficient he was on
- 7:39Speaker 4: his pitch count, but you know it's a huge one
- 7:42Speaker 4: down the road. That will be, you know, a stepping stone,
- 7:45Speaker 4: like you said, for some guys, you know maybe.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Oh no, we've lost Tyler, Dan Hayes.
- 7:56Speaker 3: We'll see if we get him back, and I will
- 7:58Speaker 3: try to get in and here.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Hey Dan, Uh, it's just you would need for We'll
- 8:05Speaker 1: keep going. I'm sure Tyler will call back, but yes,
- 8:07Speaker 1: go ahead, Dan.
- 8:10Speaker 2: There was a win. Their first win in the season
- 8:12Speaker 2: was similar feeling, uh, the Saturday win in Baltimore, where
- 8:16Speaker 2: it was a team effort where it took everybody on
- 8:19Speaker 2: that group to win. You had lu Keisha with two
- 8:21Speaker 2: big hits last night. He had Wallner with the basis
- 8:25Speaker 2: load of walk but also the single Cody Clemens doubled.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Cody Clemens got the bunt down that set up that
- 8:30Speaker 2: disaster ninth inning.
- 8:34Speaker 3: He's banned. We're going to get him in here. Yes,
- 8:39Speaker 3: he's bad.
- 8:40Speaker 2: My bone rang. It freaked out.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I had it on do not disturbed.
- 8:45Speaker 4: I'm new here.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:47Speaker 4: All that said, it's a huge win because that's a
- 8:51Speaker 4: big step forward you know late Lake push all the
- 8:54Speaker 4: good things and you know it's a and you buried
- 8:57Speaker 4: a team that really needed a win. They're they're down
- 9:00Speaker 4: bad today. You know, it's a bad day in Manhattan.
- 9:04Speaker 4: What is it about the Bronx Queens? And we covered
- 9:07Speaker 4: that last night.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yes, hey on what I was saying, Well, you're down
- 9:13Speaker 2: there and duff for a second, this team had a
- 9:17Speaker 2: win like this in Baltimore, that first win where everybody contributed.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and it.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Felt like like this is going to be a team
- 9:24Speaker 2: that does that for each other all year. This is
- 9:27Speaker 2: one of those we we've got each other's backs, and
- 9:29Speaker 2: you saw contributions across the board. I mean, Bonda looked
- 9:33Speaker 2: as good as he has all season. He had just
- 9:35Speaker 2: velocity back. And I'll tell you I had a nice
- 9:37Speaker 2: long conversation with him about a week ago where he
- 9:39Speaker 2: was freaking out about his velocity being down from ninety
- 9:41Speaker 2: five to five to ninety two plus this year, and
- 9:45Speaker 2: he finally hit some ninety five's last night. Topa looked good,
- 9:50Speaker 2: Like you said, Cole Sands had two, but then you
- 9:52Speaker 2: had Kishol with two big hits. Tody Clemens doubled to
- 9:56Speaker 2: set up the game time rally and then dropped down
- 9:59Speaker 2: the bunch perfect that led to the ninth inning gaff
- 10:02Speaker 2: by Vantos trying to cut down the leave runner. Their
- 10:05Speaker 2: walner had the single and they drew a basis loaded walk.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Everywhere you look there were contributions, and I think that
- 10:11Speaker 2: that's gonna be There's gonna be some similar wins like
- 10:14Speaker 2: this where they're fun wins and there they are the
- 10:17Speaker 2: kind of I think one d up having multiple best
- 10:21Speaker 2: wins this season kind of candidates. Because this group like
- 10:24Speaker 2: really likes each other and doesn't and wants to play
- 10:27Speaker 2: for each other. I mean, you can tell they do.
- 10:30Speaker 2: They're they're fired up. They's the postgame celebrations. There's sort
- 10:34Speaker 2: of that group that the survivors of last year's trade deadline.
- 10:38Speaker 2: They are a strong core. You know, Buckston Ober, Jeffers
- 10:42Speaker 2: Pablo who's here, by the way and acted as the
- 10:45Speaker 2: twenty one million dollar interpreter yesterday for Kendrick Rojas because
- 10:48Speaker 2: the Twins don't have an interpreter, and then Joe Ryant,
- 10:51Speaker 2: like there's that that group that and Trevor Larnick even
- 10:54Speaker 2: like there's that group of guys that's back that's sort
- 10:57Speaker 2: of banded together. And I think they're energy is good
- 11:01Speaker 2: for the rest of the group because you have young
- 11:03Speaker 2: guys who want to come up and make an impression,
- 11:05Speaker 2: but they like playing for each other. That's very clear,
- 11:08Speaker 2: and they were. It was a very emotionally good, emotional
- 11:12Speaker 2: day because I got to celebrate Taylor Rogers before the
- 11:14Speaker 2: game two for his ten years in the BIGS. And
- 11:17Speaker 2: I think, you know, this team, really they dig each other,
- 11:20Speaker 2: and I think that can be infectious. And I'm not
- 11:22Speaker 2: saying it's more than a five hundred team as it's
- 11:24Speaker 2: currently constructed, but also it could be a real fun
- 11:28Speaker 2: and interesting team compared to where everyone's expectations were og
- 11:33Speaker 2: four percent four point three percenters were looking at you.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So, heymen, it's entirely possible, of course, that with two
- 11:42Speaker 1: games left in the series, that the tone will shift
- 11:45Speaker 1: before Friday, but such as such as the case of
- 11:48Speaker 1: a long baseball season, we'll take a quick break. We've
- 11:52Speaker 1: got more to talk about, including more about Mick Abele's
- 11:55Speaker 1: trip to the IL and what the Twins will do
- 11:58Speaker 1: with him out, which includes a start from Connor Prelip
- 12:02Speaker 1: in Wednesday's game. But we'll be right back with that
- 12:05Speaker 1: after a word from our sponsor. Hey, guys, as you know,
- 12:16Speaker 1: I'm trying to get my family to a Minnesota Twins

- 13:29Speaker 3: How'd I do guys golf?
- 13:33Speaker 2: In your previous announce experience paid off right there? You
- 13:36Speaker 2: said you're now reading what you're reading every time there
- 13:41Speaker 2: a chance one take pierce.
- 13:43Speaker 1: That's what they call me anyway. Any other lingering items,
- 13:47Speaker 1: I guess just one last shout out, Like I think
- 13:50Speaker 1: we spent the bulk of Monday Show lamenting the bullpen's
- 13:54Speaker 1: issues over the weekend in the Red Series. The game
- 13:58Speaker 1: Tuesday was just complete inversion of that series. The starting
- 14:02Speaker 1: pitching with Richardson like he managed it okay and got
- 14:05Speaker 1: out with just the one door home run, but definitely
- 14:09Speaker 1: was the weakest spot of the game. And then the
- 14:11Speaker 1: bats did come through in the clutch in this one,
- 14:13Speaker 1: and the bullpen stepped up big time. And I forget
- 14:16Speaker 1: if there was any errors or not, but it seemed
- 14:18Speaker 1: like a pretty clean game to me, certainly not yeah yeah,
- 14:21Speaker 1: down the stretch.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You were talking about the bullpen and wondering if they
- 14:26Speaker 2: used lanes. Just go just talk about that a little bit,
- 14:30Speaker 2: like what what you're what you meant? Yeah, I know
- 14:33Speaker 2: what you mean.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Yeah, the roles, you know, having We've talked about having
- 14:37Speaker 4: rolls and the closer and things like that a lot,
- 14:40Speaker 4: and what the tide has kind of turned to and
- 14:43Speaker 4: the Rays. I guess we can thank them or not
- 14:47Speaker 4: for this, but they devised a system to basically they
- 14:52Speaker 4: predict how certain relievers are going to be effective against
- 14:56Speaker 4: certain hitters, and for the most part, they tried to
- 15:00Speaker 4: you up for success. Obviously there's pitch, hitting and all
- 15:04Speaker 4: the other variables in a baseball game, but it sounds
- 15:07Speaker 4: to me like what they're.
- 15:08Speaker 2: The Twins are going to try to do for the year.
- 15:10Speaker 4: You know, if you're not going to get a closer
- 15:11Speaker 4: and lock him in as a guy, you know, you
- 15:14Speaker 4: show up to the field. Sometimes it's a sheet of paper,
- 15:16Speaker 4: Sometimes it's just a coach. You know, you get out
- 15:19Speaker 4: to the bullpen. Latroy's got it in his book if
- 15:21Speaker 4: you want to see it, and he's going to be
- 15:23Speaker 4: like yeah, like you know, for me, it was you know,
- 15:26Speaker 4: the ones that come to mind. It was like Detroit
- 15:28Speaker 4: and it was going to be like you know, Kinsler,
- 15:30Speaker 4: J D. Martinez, Migual Cabrera in the seventh or eighth,
- 15:33Speaker 4: Like that was just what I was going to do
- 15:34Speaker 4: that day, you know, Cleveland, it was going to be
- 15:37Speaker 4: Lindora and Ramirez and somebody else. And it's like okay,
- 15:40Speaker 4: like you know, which is great because like you know
- 15:42Speaker 4: what's coming. But then it definitely when it's not your
- 15:46Speaker 4: turn and you can see it, you're like, well, I'm
- 15:48Speaker 4: not pitching to day, and sometimes you check out and
- 15:50Speaker 4: then it's still you and that's when it backfires because
- 15:53Speaker 4: you know it's like, oh, there's lufties coming up, you know,
- 15:55Speaker 4: or whatever it may be.
- 15:57Speaker 3: But you know.
- 15:57Speaker 4: It's hopefully it's something that they can maintain and make work.
- 16:01Speaker 4: And you know, guys going two innings at a time,
- 16:05Speaker 4: you know works, but you also need rest in between those,
- 16:07Speaker 4: and you know, towards the end of the year, those
- 16:09Speaker 4: get taxing. So it's a you know, they've had their
- 16:12Speaker 4: ups and downs already, and you know, I think it'll
- 16:14Speaker 4: it'll iron itself out, it always seems to, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 4: or Twinsky playing well and go make some noise and
- 16:21Speaker 4: go get a big time closer from somebody.
- 16:23Speaker 2: You never know, the thing I liked about it. That
- 16:27Speaker 2: was absolutely the case with Bonda, and and you know
- 16:30Speaker 2: mentioned that he had his velocity, but they had two
- 16:33Speaker 2: lefties scheduled for the ending that Bonda came in, and
- 16:37Speaker 2: they pinch hit multiple right handers, so Bonda didn't face
- 16:40Speaker 2: a single lefty in that bunch. It was clear that
- 16:43Speaker 2: was his lane. Was Hey, we're gonna put you in.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I think he came in in the sixth when it
- 16:48Speaker 2: was three to two, and I liked the way he
- 16:53Speaker 2: responded because he clearly got a different batch of hitters
- 16:58Speaker 2: than he was going to and he looked really good.
- 17:00Speaker 2: He struck out two, just had an easy inning, hit
- 17:04Speaker 2: one of his best innings. And if he ever gets
- 17:07Speaker 2: back to the ninety eight ninety nine he was throwing
- 17:10Speaker 2: last year, they will have a real weapon in him
- 17:13Speaker 2: that can pitch more higher leverage spots later in games.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Obviously they're trying to get him healthy. It had been
- 17:19Speaker 2: six days since his appearance last appearance when he pitched yesterday,
- 17:22Speaker 2: but he said he felt good last night. Just just
- 17:26Speaker 2: seeing him adjust was huge, because you're right, I think
- 17:30Speaker 2: they're going to mix and match, and this is you
- 17:32Speaker 2: know lanes, this is mix and match. This is what
- 17:34Speaker 2: we've always heard in bullpens. It's it's very I mean
- 17:39Speaker 2: I just saw an interview with John Schneider and Dave
- 17:41Speaker 2: Roberts talk about the ninth inning and if Game seven
- 17:45Speaker 2: of the World Series and like how that was a perfect,
- 17:47Speaker 2: essentially lane for Jeff Hoffman. That's gonna be how this
- 17:53Speaker 2: this bullpen gets by, and we'll see them have their hiccups,
- 17:56Speaker 2: there's no question. I mean, it's not a stuff group.
- 17:59Speaker 2: And let Andrew Morris is in a dedicated short inning
- 18:04Speaker 2: role and he can throw ninety eight tick and yeah, absolutely,
- 18:08Speaker 2: but if he's asked throw two three innings, that can
- 18:11Speaker 2: serve a little bit, and you throw ninety five ninety
- 18:14Speaker 2: six and you'll see different. So if you don't have
- 18:17Speaker 2: pure stuff guys, and you don't have guys that are
- 18:20Speaker 2: in set roles as pure stuff guys, you're gonna have
- 18:22Speaker 2: to do this all season and we'll see them scramble
- 18:25Speaker 2: at times without question. But that's why you applaud the
- 18:28Speaker 2: good ones like this.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I think too.
- 18:31Speaker 4: On Bonda particularly, we can't forget that he was in
- 18:35Speaker 4: the World Series last year and pitched for you know,
- 18:38Speaker 4: nine months, you know, so it's that that old World
- 18:41Speaker 4: Series hangover thing is real, you know, and his body
- 18:44Speaker 4: may just.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Still be like getting acclimated.
- 18:47Speaker 4: You know, it's come July August, like he's gonna be
- 18:50Speaker 4: who he is, you know. I think there's just some
- 18:52Speaker 4: it's you know, getting your feet under you, you know,
- 18:54Speaker 4: selling in a new spot, you know, the whole thing.
- 18:57Speaker 4: And uh, you know, I think he'll end up being
- 18:58Speaker 4: just fine.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I mean, to go from pitching high leverage for the
- 19:02Speaker 2: Dodgers to uh makeshift bullpen that the Twins have, There's
- 19:08Speaker 2: no difference there at all.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Not at all.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And with that we transitioned to uh tonight, second game
- 19:19Speaker 1: of the series, and this is going to be the
- 19:23Speaker 1: major league debut correct for Connor.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Prelimp beer shower inbound.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Beer Shower Inbound called up the other day after Mick
- 19:33Speaker 1: Abel was sent to the injury list. We talked about
- 19:35Speaker 1: that in our special little Bonus show on Monday. Uh
- 19:40Speaker 1: pre lip twenty five years old? Was or is so far?
- 19:44Speaker 1: I want to know with a two point three e
- 19:46Speaker 1: r A at Triple A Saint Paul in four games
- 19:49Speaker 1: this year, Dan, what else do we need to know
- 19:52Speaker 1: about the Twins new starter?
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah, minor League picture of the air last year, and
- 19:57Speaker 2: it was partly because he finally was healthy and on
- 20:01Speaker 2: the field. He had eighty two and a third innings
- 20:03Speaker 2: or eighty two and two thirds innings last year. Struck
- 20:05Speaker 2: out in ninety eight prior to last year, we're talking
- 20:09Speaker 2: about with that eighty two and two thirds. He now
- 20:12Speaker 2: between college and the miners, over six seasons dating back
- 20:18Speaker 2: to twenty twenty, has one hundred and fifty six in
- 20:20Speaker 2: the third innings. He's had two Tommy Johns. He's got
- 20:24Speaker 2: electric stuff still he throws ninety five. I would love
- 20:27Speaker 2: to see what it looks like al the bullpen. But
- 20:29Speaker 2: last year they had him on like a six day schedule.
- 20:33Speaker 2: They basically pitched him once a series, and it was
- 20:36Speaker 2: to build up his workload because he hadn't pitched at
- 20:39Speaker 2: that point. He's one hundred and twenty eight and a
- 20:41Speaker 2: third professional innings, and eighty two and two thirds of
- 20:44Speaker 2: him came last year. He got drafted in twenty twenty two.
- 20:47Speaker 2: He's been on the sideline for a long time, so
- 20:51Speaker 2: he's still young in his development, even though he's already
- 20:53Speaker 2: twenty five and started to add a curveball in this year.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Very a guy they've been very excited about. You know,
- 21:02Speaker 2: our Athletic Top forty twins prospect rankings had him number five.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I think that's a pretty accurate read. It's a guy
- 21:10Speaker 2: who definitely they would like to see succeed, being the
- 21:14Speaker 2: forty eighth overall pick. And you know, he's a no
- 21:18Speaker 2: frills guy. He was not. He did not. You can
- 21:22Speaker 2: tell he's excited to be here, but he's pretty low key.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Loves the golf. We asked him, we asked him for
- 21:29Speaker 2: a description on getting called up and he just said
- 21:33Speaker 2: it was awesome. That was it. That was the whole.
- 21:36Speaker 5: Uh So, I think he does a lot of us talking,
- 21:41Speaker 5: which is his stuff, and he's a guy that will
- 21:45Speaker 5: go at hitters and he's catching the opponents at the
- 21:48Speaker 5: right time.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Although Jan Soda does return tonight, I believe for the Mets,
- 21:53Speaker 2: so that should be, uh throw a little wrinkle in there,
- 21:57Speaker 2: and but the Mets are are down so much and
- 22:03Speaker 2: I think, you know, he got to be on the
- 22:05Speaker 2: team plane on Monday with them. He was here. He
- 22:09Speaker 2: came up at the same time as Kendrick Rojas and
- 22:12Speaker 2: spent yesterday in the clubhouse. That was kind of crazy.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Taylor Rodgers said that. One of the reporters asked, Taylor,
- 22:19Speaker 2: is it weird that on your ten year service time
- 22:22Speaker 2: that two guys are celebrating their first day in a
- 22:24Speaker 2: big league clubhouse? And give a good answer about that.
- 22:29Speaker 2: And so Rojas and Prelip got to experience yesterday together,
- 22:33Speaker 2: and I think, you know, that should help settle him
- 22:36Speaker 2: in a little bit so that it's not just show
- 22:38Speaker 2: up in New York and go from Saint Paul to
- 22:41Speaker 2: New York and just be there and get going. So
- 22:45Speaker 2: it should be fun to watch night. Definitely a lot
- 22:48Speaker 2: of talent there.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Well, a little different than when I got called up
- 22:51Speaker 4: and I watched David Price's debut for the Blue Jays
- 22:54Speaker 4: and then I had to face him.
- 22:55Speaker 3: The next day. Amazing.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Wow.
- 23:00Speaker 1: He's also from Toma, Wisconsin, which of course is where
- 23:04Speaker 1: the ninety four and ninety freeways come together.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Famous all the time driving on my.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Commune, convenient to get to southern Minnesota or the Twin Cities.
- 23:14Speaker 1: It's it's uh, it's perfect, Tyler. When you watch a
- 23:19Speaker 1: pitcher make his major league debut, what do you anything
- 23:22Speaker 1: you have your eye on in particular?
- 23:25Speaker 4: Yeah, like you look for the yank, like offspeed that's
- 23:29Speaker 4: just in the other box, or the fastballs that are
- 23:31Speaker 4: you know, flying arm side. You know that's pretty common.
- 23:36Speaker 4: You know, you just you try and do a little
- 23:38Speaker 4: more sometimes, you know it's it's one though. Some guys
- 23:42Speaker 4: show up and they're just locked in. You know it
- 23:44Speaker 4: maybe usefully got they I'm assuming they were at the
- 23:47Speaker 4: game last night. I don't know how that works when
- 23:48Speaker 4: you're taxi if you can go outside or you got
- 23:51Speaker 4: to stay in the clubhouse, whatever, but you know they
- 23:53Speaker 4: got to experience it. They got to experience a fun win.
- 23:56Speaker 4: You know, stuff like that matters. And you know, to
- 23:59Speaker 4: my about my debut, like I had the antithesis of that,
- 24:03Speaker 4: and so it's just, uh, it's it'll be.
- 24:05Speaker 3: A fun one.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Man, it's one you know you're warming up, you don't,
- 24:09Speaker 4: you're just adrenaline buzz and you know, somebody, one of
- 24:12Speaker 4: my good friends, equated it to trying to dance without
- 24:15Speaker 4: being able to feel your legs. You know, it's just
- 24:17Speaker 4: like sometimes you just float and you don't really know
- 24:20Speaker 4: what's going on you and you blink and it's over.
- 24:23Speaker 4: But you know it's one of if he comes out
- 24:25Speaker 4: and trusts his stuff, obviously he's got electric. You know,
- 24:28Speaker 4: fastball and Church got great off speed to follow it,
- 24:31Speaker 4: you know, being the prospect he is. So it's just
- 24:33Speaker 4: one go out and attack, you know, that's all you
- 24:35Speaker 4: can really do and let yourself speak for itself, because
- 24:38Speaker 4: if you start trying to get cute and then he'll
- 24:41Speaker 4: get away from you really fast and next thing you know,
- 24:43Speaker 4: you'll be on the on that six am flight back
- 24:46Speaker 4: to Saint Paul. So you know, just just go out
- 24:48Speaker 4: there and have some fun and you know, let it
- 24:50Speaker 4: fly man. You know worst can happen you and give
- 24:52Speaker 4: a homer to one Sodo.
- 24:53Speaker 2: You know he he'll get the start, and I wouldn't
- 24:57Speaker 2: be shocked because Kenry Rojas has picked he backed before.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I wouldn't be shocked if we see Kenry Rojas get
- 25:05Speaker 2: in this game tonight and follow him and Rohastal through
- 25:07Speaker 2: a ninety eight ninety nine. Both of them have really
- 25:10Speaker 2: good secondary stuff. Rojas started to get loose last night
- 25:15Speaker 2: when the Twins were down three nothing, and then Bucks
- 25:17Speaker 2: and Homer and quickly Rojas sat down at that point
- 25:20Speaker 2: because they were could give him a one run game.
- 25:23Speaker 2: But this should be a really if you're a Twins
- 25:26Speaker 2: fan and you're looking for intrigue about the future. This
- 25:30Speaker 2: is a kind of a must watch game in my opinion,
- 25:33Speaker 2: just because these two guys, they're number five and nine
- 25:36Speaker 2: prospects in the system. They're the top two pitching prospects
- 25:40Speaker 2: in the system right now, and that one through ten,
- 25:43Speaker 2: one through eleven in the Twins pitching or overall system
- 25:48Speaker 2: is pretty talented. I mean, when you get down to
- 25:51Speaker 2: like the tenth or eleventh guys in the system, you're
- 25:53Speaker 2: still talking about guys who look like they could be
- 25:56Speaker 2: regular major leaguers, regular guys, you know, not a lot
- 25:59Speaker 2: of system and have that depth, and so that should
- 26:03Speaker 2: be I mean, if Rojas gets in, this is the
- 26:06Speaker 2: guy that came over as the main guy in the
- 26:08Speaker 2: Louis Arland trade. In the front office was very excited,
- 26:11Speaker 2: even though he is not from Brainer, even though he
- 26:14Speaker 2: is not from Saint Paul like Louis Arland. He's five
- 26:19Speaker 2: years younger than Louis Arland, and he has electric stuff,
- 26:22Speaker 2: and so I think there should be kind of a
- 26:25Speaker 2: fun watch, even expecting hiccups. You know, we don't know
- 26:30Speaker 2: what they're gonna do. Because the crowd last night we
- 26:33Speaker 2: saw it, and I'm sure you guys heard it in
- 26:35Speaker 2: the background, but when Austin Warren came in with the
- 26:37Speaker 2: bases loaded after Devin Williams just flub of an inning,
- 26:42Speaker 2: the crowd really got going real quick. They're looking for
- 26:45Speaker 2: anything right now, and that.
- 26:47Speaker 3: It's the Mets fans.
- 26:49Speaker 2: There's yes any signs of life, and rookies tend to
- 26:52Speaker 2: provide that with an ill timed walk or a wild
- 26:56Speaker 2: pitch or a bok or anything. And so like Austin
- 27:02Speaker 2: Warren gets going and there's Austin Warren, m VP chants
- 27:06Speaker 2: and Austin Warren, it was amazing. Mets fans are looking
- 27:11Speaker 2: for anything right now, and so this could go sideways
- 27:14Speaker 2: quick for the Twins, no question. But also I'm just
- 27:18Speaker 2: looking forward to seeing what these guys have and how
- 27:21Speaker 2: it can play out at this level.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of the theme of this season is seeing
- 27:27Speaker 1: what they've got everywhere across the board. On Monday, we
- 27:33Speaker 1: asked for your Twins questions and we got a few,
- 27:36Speaker 1: so we thought we'd take a minute to answer. Somebody
- 27:42Speaker 1: asked us what the Twins will do without mick Abel
- 27:44Speaker 1: for two weeks. I think we've pretty well covered that
- 27:47Speaker 1: between the follow up show we did on Monday, and
- 27:49Speaker 1: then that segment just now that's.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Going to be the guy for now. Kendrick Rojas is
- 27:56Speaker 2: the guy that's probably here temporarily because Cody Funerberk should
- 28:00Speaker 2: be back in a couple of days coming off the
- 28:01Speaker 2: baturningy List. I wouldn't be shocked if we saw Prelip
- 28:05Speaker 2: get a couple of starts, although who knows, maybe Kendrew
- 28:09Speaker 2: Kendrick Rojas isn't built out as much right now as
- 28:12Speaker 2: Connor Prelip is, and there's a couple of days off
- 28:14Speaker 2: built in coming up, so I think they can get
- 28:17Speaker 2: him in here and you know, get a couple of starts,
- 28:20Speaker 2: So that that's likely how it's going to go, at
- 28:23Speaker 2: least early on while Abel's out.
- 28:26Speaker 1: We will start with a softball question for Dan. Dan's
- 28:30Speaker 1: cat made a cameo on a recent show, and a
- 28:33Speaker 1: fan named Mustache Steve asks, is Dan's cat named after Kreamer?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Cat's name is Cosmo? My late dog was named Bosco,
- 28:44Speaker 1: which is a Seinfeld reference as well. Dan, is your
- 28:46Speaker 1: cat named after Cosmo?
- 28:48Speaker 3: Kramer?
- 28:49Speaker 2: Yes? I did not get to do the naming, but
- 28:51Speaker 2: let's just say that when Seinfeld is on in syndicated reruns,
- 28:56Speaker 2: at seven o'clock in the off season, and you know
- 29:00Speaker 2: it happens every three to six months where it aligns
- 29:04Speaker 2: on one of those channels that's typically what we watch.
- 29:08Speaker 2: So yes, that cat is named after Cosmo Kramer. The
- 29:11Speaker 2: girl cat is named Salem, after the cat from Sabrina,
- 29:15Speaker 2: the teenage witch that does not. We watch a lot
- 29:20Speaker 2: of TV.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Do you watch Sabrina?
- 29:23Speaker 2: I did not. Again, I didn't get to name either
- 29:25Speaker 2: of these cats. I was. I was allowed to say
- 29:29Speaker 2: yes in the selection of the cats or no in
- 29:32Speaker 2: the selection of the cats, but I did not get
- 29:35Speaker 2: to name them. But oddly enough, that cat's first name
- 29:39Speaker 2: was Gilbert when we got them from a rescue. Does
- 29:41Speaker 2: not fit his personality. He's much more of a Cosmo,
- 29:44Speaker 2: so he's yeah, yeah, big into birds.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Bright BH eighteen twenty asked what I thought was a
- 29:55Speaker 1: fun question in how how modest it is, who is
- 29:59Speaker 1: the single most important player in the entire Twins system
- 30:03Speaker 1: if they are going to be competitive slash make the
- 30:05Speaker 1: playoffs in twenty twenty seven, We're not gonna ask about
- 30:10Speaker 1: this year.
- 30:10Speaker 3: We're gonna look ahead.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Who do you guys think is the most important player?
- 30:14Speaker 1: I guess, just in general, in the organization.
- 30:18Speaker 4: For me, not knowing much of the depth or anything,
- 30:21Speaker 4: the guys starting to night seems to be a pretty
- 30:23Speaker 4: good choice. I mean, if he shows up in his
- 30:25Speaker 4: lights out, like there's a starter for next year, you
- 30:28Speaker 4: know that you can kind of write and pin. You know,
- 30:32Speaker 4: it's it's always good to have starting rotation. You know
- 30:35Speaker 4: that you can't argue with that. You know, there's that's
- 30:37Speaker 4: the hottest commodity there is. And from the rest of
- 30:40Speaker 4: the guys down you know they fill in bullpen arms
- 30:42Speaker 4: or whatever. But you're asking me, it's having a starter
- 30:45Speaker 4: that you know you can depend on. Especially this guy's
- 30:47Speaker 4: gonna come out third ninety five as a starter, Like,
- 30:50Speaker 4: go ahead and ride him into the sunset, you know.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Okay, So I'm gonna totally weezle out of giving a
- 30:58Speaker 2: set answer on this because it's April and I want
- 31:04Speaker 2: to see what brooks Lee can do at shortstop. It's
- 31:07Speaker 2: been defensively not great so far, his minus six defensive
- 31:10Speaker 2: runs safe. I also think over the course of the
- 31:13Speaker 2: year that could be closer to like a minus two,
- 31:16Speaker 2: which is still not what you know, you need better
- 31:19Speaker 2: than that at shortstop. The twins are eleven defensive runs
- 31:22Speaker 2: saved behind Bobby Witt and Kansas City. They're plus five
- 31:28Speaker 2: at shortstop, So it could be Kayln Culpepper potentially, because
- 31:32Speaker 2: that's likely the guy that's got to come up. But
- 31:35Speaker 2: I still think he needs a lot of time. Just
- 31:38Speaker 2: I think his bat can play right now, and talk
- 31:39Speaker 2: to people about that. His bat could play right now.
- 31:42Speaker 2: There would be inconsistencies with the bat, but he has
- 31:45Speaker 2: absolutely got the skill set to do it. I think
- 31:48Speaker 2: they want to see defensive consistency out of him at shortstop,
- 31:51Speaker 2: and there's questions about whether or not Kayln Culpepper is
- 31:54Speaker 2: a long term shortstop himself. He might project better to
- 31:57Speaker 2: be a third baseman. So I will go with either
- 32:01Speaker 2: Emmanual Rodriguez or Walker Jenkins because Matt Wallner is getting
- 32:07Speaker 2: the service time up there, Trevor Larnick is getting the
- 32:11Speaker 2: service time up there. James Outman, we don't know what
- 32:14Speaker 2: his future holds with the Twins, and those are three
- 32:17Speaker 2: of the guys blocking the paths of Emmanuel Rodriguez and
- 32:20Speaker 2: Walker Jenkins who are potential stars. So I think Rodriguez
- 32:28Speaker 2: has made some really good strides and is a very
- 32:31Speaker 2: interesting prospect. These first three four weeks of the season
- 32:36Speaker 2: at Triple A. So far, his swing. You know, he's
- 32:40Speaker 2: been a selective hitter early on, and he's had trouble
- 32:44Speaker 2: standing on the field over the course of his career.
- 32:46Speaker 2: He's averaged fifty nine games a season for his career
- 32:48Speaker 2: so far. But he has been a lot more aggressive
- 32:53Speaker 2: early in counts and we're seeing at payoff and he's
- 32:56Speaker 2: looking like this is something they clearly have worked on
- 32:58Speaker 2: with him for a while and he's showing it, and
- 33:01Speaker 2: this is changing his prospect profile. I think he will
- 33:04Speaker 2: jump up the charts if he can stay on the
- 33:07Speaker 2: field and continue this level of production with the aggressiveness
- 33:10Speaker 2: of the plate. He's got a good eye, he just
- 33:13Speaker 2: always has been very selective. So realistically, the difference maker
- 33:18Speaker 2: for me out of everybody that's close potentially is him.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I mean, Walker Jenkins looks like a future stud, but
- 33:25Speaker 2: he's also really young. I mean, we're talking about a
- 33:27Speaker 2: guy who's twenty one. So I think Manu Rodriguez most
- 33:31Speaker 2: likely would be that answer. But I do need to
- 33:33Speaker 2: see what brooks Lee can provide more than twenty three
- 33:37Speaker 2: games at shortstop. I want to know that it's better
- 33:40Speaker 2: than this or this is what we should expect and
- 33:44Speaker 2: needs to be moved off the position because if it's
- 33:47Speaker 2: minus six defensive runs, say when it gets warm and
- 33:51Speaker 2: he's moving freer all that stuff, when everybody's moving freer
- 33:55Speaker 2: on the field, that's not tenable. But if he can
- 34:00Speaker 2: because he was about minus two over the last two
- 34:03Speaker 2: months of season in August and September, I think he's
- 34:07Speaker 2: more that. But and if his bat is playing, I
- 34:11Speaker 2: think you can live with that for a while. But
- 34:13Speaker 2: you know where everything is right now. I'm in the
- 34:17Speaker 2: holding pattern on that answer. And you know, we only
- 34:20Speaker 2: we have till twenty twenty seven based off of who
- 34:22Speaker 2: was the question? Was it? You said, Bryce, Sir?
- 34:25Speaker 3: Bryce?
- 34:26Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, yeah, Bryce, it's an answer he does we
- 34:31Speaker 2: have time.
- 34:32Speaker 1: That was Actually that was a two for one because
- 34:34Speaker 1: the final question we had was what is the path
- 34:37Speaker 1: for Manuel Rodriguez to get called up? And basically the
- 34:41Speaker 1: answer is injuries. Yeah, one of those guys has to
- 34:45Speaker 1: get out of the way.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Somehow or another.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Rodriguez twenty three years old, he's at Triple A right now,
- 34:51Speaker 1: hitting to seventy one in seventeen games of this season.
- 34:55Speaker 3: But as Dan said, one.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Of the top prospects in the system. That's all the
- 35:01Speaker 1: questions we had for today. We did forget to get
- 35:04Speaker 1: to one fun item earlier. That I guess is a
- 35:06Speaker 1: nice note to end on. The Twins social media team
- 35:09Speaker 1: up to it again. Last night they had a little
- 35:11Speaker 1: fun after the win. They tweeted out or sorry, posted
- 35:16Speaker 1: to x things you can get in a dozen eggs, roses,
- 35:22Speaker 1: mets losses. That is, they went for it there, guys.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Yeah, this is this is like the third time that
- 35:32Speaker 2: they because they got some headlines out of this. I
- 35:34Speaker 2: saw John Haymon mentioned it this morning. I saw Awful
- 35:38Speaker 2: Announcing wrote a story about it. This is they're getting
- 35:42Speaker 2: some traction. This feels a lot like you know, ads.
- 35:46Speaker 2: We want to figure out what value it has and
- 35:49Speaker 2: what it's adding to the team. I wish social media
- 35:53Speaker 2: could add wins and losses to the team because Cassie
- 35:56Speaker 2: and her crew are killing it. They're having some fun
- 36:00Speaker 2: and hey, they're making waves. It's it's entertaining.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Between this and the Timberwolves.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Jaden McDaniels calling out every single Denver nugget defender the
- 36:11Speaker 1: other night.
- 36:12Speaker 2: That was my that's my Minnesota. One of my good friends,
- 36:16Speaker 2: Tom Schreier, his question, I heard his voice in the background.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I was like, that was that was just an innocent question.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Jane Daniels was throwing him under the bus man.
- 36:25Speaker 1: It was like, it's like entirely too much trash talk
- 36:29Speaker 1: from Minnesota sports right now.
- 36:30Speaker 2: I'm right, Hey, they've been kicked. Minnesota sports has been
- 36:35Speaker 2: kicked for so long. It's nice to see, uh, some
- 36:39Speaker 2: of these outsiders ignoring Minnesota nice and just killing people.
- 36:46Speaker 3: With that.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Wednesday six' Ten Central Star time For Connor Prelibs Major league. Debut,
