Transcript
- 0:00Happy Thanksgiving from The Immutable Word. We hope everyone has been able to
- 0:03spend some quality time with friends, family, enjoying the fellowship,
- 0:07maybe even confusing our poor bodies with the effects of tryptophan and the
- 0:11spike in sugar levels. Always a great mix.
- 0:13But as for us, we augmented our Thanksgiving experience with the inclusion of
- 0:19another food item outside of the traditional turkey,
- 0:23which is a good old-fashioned smoked brisket prepared with loving care,
- 0:27smoked to perfection with post-oak, resulting in pure happiness as it was quickly
- 0:31consumed, which is no surprise there.
- 0:33In short, it was very, very good. So we've added this to our tradition over
- 0:39the last, I don't know how many years now, but Robert would pick up a smoked brisket.
- 0:46We wouldn't do it ourselves, but he knows somebody who does a fantastic job of smoking briskets.
- 0:51And so we would get one from this gentleman every Thanksgiving morning and add
- 0:57that into the giant feast that we have, but it was certainly amazing.
- 1:02And I'm already looking forward to next year as well.
- 1:05As you might know, being from Texas, a brisket is a big thing here.
- 1:10And speaking of brisket, I'm willing to debate anybody from different states,
- 1:14you know, like Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kentucky, about whose brisket is better.
- 1:19And perhaps we can test out our argumentation skills.
- 1:23Definitely be up for that. All right. So just to be thankful for.
- 1:27Just to be thankful in general, really, our ladies in the kitchen who have really
- 1:31slaved there to make things possible.
- 1:34Stephanie, Yvonne, Noah, Brianna, Bethany did a great job of just putting everything together.
- 1:41As people may know, it's not easy to plan for and cook for Thanksgiving with
- 1:46all the food and all the baking and cooking. It's just, it's a ton of work.
- 1:51And so it's really thankful for them for making it a very special experience.
- 1:56And speaking of family, aside from that amazing foodie experience,
- 2:01it's always a blessing to spend time with the family, to fellowship,
- 2:03reflect on God's goodness, which brings me to a post that someone posted on TikTok.
- 2:09I'll withhold the name, but Robert authored something that I thought would be
- 2:13nice to share here as well. I figure it's appropriate with Thanksgiving and everything.
- 2:17Did I say TikTok? Sorry, I meant Facebook. I'm kidding. But the name of this
- 2:21post is, it's about gratitude.
- 2:23The name of the post is called The Safeguard of Gratitude. And I thought it
- 2:27would be great just in the wake of Thanksgiving.
- 2:30Today's Friday, so it's the day after right now.
- 2:33But I thought it would be a good one to read through.
- 2:36I'll read through it. I'll provide a little bit of color commentary without
- 2:39taking away from the post.
- 2:42But again, it's entitled The Safeguard of Gratitude.
- 2:45Here he starts in 1 Thessalonians 5, verse 18, where it says,
- 2:50And he states here in the post, it says,
- 2:59This command is not a suggestion.
- 3:02Number one, it's not a suggestion when convenient.
- 3:05It is explicit. Why should we give thanks in everything?
- 3:08It's the explicit will of God. For some circumstances, no, it's every single circumstance.
- 3:15And I know a lot of us might get hung up with giving thanks in everything.
- 3:19What does that really mean? It means, you know, everything means everything. That's what it says.
- 3:23That means in good times. Maybe we have good health. We're with family.
- 3:28Maybe the situation financially is good. Sure, it's easy to give thanks for
- 3:31those things, but what about everything else?
- 3:34What about in the circumstances where, oh, it's not so positive in terms of
- 3:38our health when it comes to our financial situation, or any other challenging
- 3:43situation we might find ourselves in, where we might even say,
- 3:47why are we even going through this?
- 3:48Of course, God has a plan. There's always a reason, or it's just,
- 3:53this is the trials that we have to go through.
- 3:56It makes us stronger in the long run. Sometimes when we look back,
- 3:58you might even say, man, I'm really glad that I went through that because without
- 4:03that, I wouldn't be where I'm at today for whatever reason.
- 4:07So, those are the things that we can be thankful for.
- 4:10Even the things that we don't understand, it's part of everything that we should be thankful for.
- 4:15So, you know, it's just one way to look at that verse. You could stop right
- 4:19there at the first part of that verse where it says, in everything,
- 4:22give thanks. Why? For it's the will of God.
- 4:26And then the next thing that he covers here is the logical progression of apostasy.
- 4:32So, in Romans 1.21, it says, Because that, when they knew God,
- 4:37they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their
- 4:42imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
- 4:45So, he goes on to say in the post, The descent into a reprobate mind,
- 4:50idolatry, and wickedness began
- 4:52when men knew God, yet glorified him not as God, neither were thankful.
- 4:57He goes on to say, ungratefulness is the catalyst for a spiritual degeneracy.
- 5:02When we cease to acknowledge the creator, we inevitably worship the creature.
- 5:08This looks like a true dichotomy.
- 5:10One, if they don't know him. Two, if they don't glorify him. And three, be thankful.
- 5:15What's the result? They become vain in their imaginations, followed by their hearts being darkened.
- 5:21So therefore, thanksgiving is a spiritual safeguard. It anchors the believer
- 5:27to the truth that by His grace, we live and move and have our being.
- 5:32Acts 17.28. As he concludes in the post, he says, gratitude is not merely a holiday tradition.
- 5:40It is the existential defense of a protected heart.
- 5:45So, I thought that was well said, and certainly something to meditate on during
- 5:50this Thanksgiving holiday.
- 5:51All right, so before we move into this episode, into the lecture series that
- 5:56Robert's been covering in the college, I do want to do a shameless plug and
- 6:00just briefly mention that we do have some good episodes coming up really soon.
- 6:05Robert and I have been planning to finish the year strong with some solid topics,
- 6:09one of them being angiology, which should be a pretty interesting topic for us to cover.
- 6:15It's likely going to be a series. I don't see it any other way because there's
- 6:19just so many things that we can branch off into with the topic of angeology.
- 6:26I keep on wanting to say archaeology for some reason. Anyways,
- 6:29angeology is what I'm trying to say.
- 6:30The topic of angeology, so just something to look forward to and that we're
- 6:35going to finish the year on and maybe even go into 2026 as we continue that conversation.
- 6:39So that's one of them. There's going to be other topics as well that we plan to cover.
- 6:44And we're just brainstorming. We're really excited to cover a lot of different
- 6:49things as we go into next year.
- 6:51And maybe we're even starting to talk about side projects as well. So I think we're,
- 6:55Not trying to get too ahead of ourselves, but we are pretty excited.
- 6:59And we're really excited that you guys are on this journey with us as well.
- 7:03We've gotten a lot of good feedback.
- 7:05We've gotten feedback about a lot of the things that we've been covering have
- 7:09been edifying, encouraging, and helpful.
- 7:12And, of course, if there's any other topics, any other questions,
- 7:16anything else that you would like us to maybe dig more into,
- 7:19we're always happy to hear from you. And yeah, you can message Robert on his
- 7:24TikTok account. Sorry, Facebook, not TikTok.
- 7:26You can message him directly there. Of course, we have our email address that
- 7:31you can reach us as well, theimmutableword at gmail.com.
- 7:35And of course, we've got our show notes and other resources that we can send
- 7:39you upon request as we work on building out our website.
- 7:43We're working on ways to make sure this stuff is freely available to everybody
- 7:47so that way you wouldn't have to request or anything.
- 7:49We're just trying to get a little bit more organized as we move forward. So just a lot going on.
- 7:53But do let us know if you have any questions or need anything or if you have
- 7:57any interest in any of the resources that we have.
- 8:00All right. So moving into this episode, Robert's covering of the Holy Ghost.
- 8:06This is something that he's been covering in college classes this year.
- 8:10And this lecture, this is lecture three. I had uploaded lecture...
- 8:16Two, several weeks back, which is covered in episode 31.
- 8:20So, I do encourage folks to go check that out first to get a baseline of what
- 8:23he's covering here on the doctrine of the Holy Spirit.
- 8:25He's specifically covering the deity of the Holy Ghost in Lecture 3.
- 8:29We unfortunately didn't get a recording of Lecture 1.
- 8:32We just didn't get a chance with all the chaos of scheduling,
- 8:36and there's just one thing that was just forgotten, but we have all the recordings
- 8:39of the follow-on one. So we're going to sprinkle those in as time goes on.
- 8:44Really interesting study, interesting classes. But yeah, start with the episode
- 8:4831, which is the second lecture.
- 8:49That way you can get a good baseline and then follow it up with this one.
- 8:53All right. So always, thanks again for tuning in with us. We hope you enjoy this lecture.
- 8:57And again, thank you for tuning in with us. And we look forward to seeing you
- 9:01on the planned episodes coming up really soon.
- 9:04In this lesson, lesson three is a deity of the Holy Spirit.
- 9:08Again, I'm going to keep this up here on every slide, the Trinity and what it
- 9:13is that we're defending.
- 9:14We're obviously studying the Holy Spirit, and that's going to be the main focus,
- 9:18but he's part of the Trinity. That's the point of it. That's the argument.
- 9:23It's just like any kind of argument or attack on the deity of Jesus Christ is
- 9:27always an attack on the Trinity.
- 9:29And I would say any attack on the Trinity is always an attack either on the
- 9:33deity of Christ or the deity of the Holy Spirit.
- 9:36So again, if you don't have the separate file and it's on the website,
- 9:41download it, keep it, print it.
- 9:43I mean, it's a great tool to use, honestly.
- 9:46So, all right. So what we're going to be talking about in this particular class
- 9:50is that the Holy Spirit is God.
- 9:54Okay. So on that first slide, remember we said it's one what, three who's.
- 10:00We talked about last time that the Holy Spirit is a person.
- 10:04So we're establishing these couple of lessons. The first three lessons is really
- 10:07to the introduction into the whole, you know, doctrine of the Holy Spirit,
- 10:11what we call pneumatology.
- 10:13The personality of the Holy Spirit, that's probably the most attacked attribute,
- 10:17and that the fact that he is God.
- 10:20Some people will say, well, yeah, he's obviously connected to God because it's God's Spirit, right?
- 10:25Just like you have a Spirit, but here's the thing. Your Spirit is essentially part of you.
- 10:30It's not a separate part of you, right? You don't have a conversation with your Spirit.
- 10:35You may have a conversation with yourself, but you're talking to yourself,
- 10:38you're understanding your knowledge. but when it comes to the Holy Spirit,
- 10:42our spirit is a type of the Holy Spirit, but it's not exactly the same. Okay.
- 10:48Now, you know, when in the Old Testament, when Adam fell, how many believe that
- 10:53man was created in the image of God?
- 10:56Right. Okay. And it's pretty clear in scripture, right? Did man at any time lose the image of God?
- 11:04Anybody? No? Look at
- 11:06Genesis chapter five real quick look at genesis chapter 5 and
- 11:10somebody read the first three verses of genesis chapter 5 out loud when you
- 11:16get there genesis chapter 5 and look what it says this is the book of the generation
- 11:21of adam and the day that god created man and the likeness of god may be him male and female.
- 11:38Notice that. What happened? God, Adam was created in the likeness and the image
- 11:44of God, but what happened to Seth?
- 11:46Whose image was he made after? Adam.
- 11:49No longer, he lost the image of God. Something happened. What happened was there's a disconnect.
- 11:55Now we don't see the image of God, that expression show up until the New Testament.
- 12:01Who, according to Hebrews chapter 1, is the express image of God?
- 12:07Jesus Christ, right? When you're born, you don't automatically have Christ.
- 12:13But when you are born again, according to 2 Corinthians chapter 5,
- 12:16you're a new creature, you're indwelt with the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 12:20So, guess what? You regain the image of God, which is Jesus Christ. Adam lost that.
- 12:28Everybody created after Adam is created after the image of Adam.
- 12:32Romans chapter five says, because one man sinned, so then death passed upon all men. See that?
- 12:39So even though we say, yes, man is created after the image, there's a likeness
- 12:44as far as the Trinitarian formula, right?
- 12:46You have a body, a soul, and a spirit, but you do not have the understanding of God.
- 12:52Remember, we talked about that, that your spirit is the seat of your understanding.
- 12:56That's how you understand things. So guess what happens?
- 12:58When you get saved, that Holy Spirit not only comes into you and dwells you
- 13:04because you are the temple of the Holy Spirit, but you're also baptized into
- 13:08Christ, according to Romans chapter 6.
- 13:11So now you have regained the image that Adam lost.
- 13:16You're no longer in Adam. You are now in Christ.
- 13:21Okay, there's only two types of people in the world. Those that are in Christ
- 13:25and those that are in Adam.
- 13:27So when you talk to somebody, now you don't have to explain all this when you're
- 13:31witnessing to somebody, but it's good for you to understand.
- 13:33When you're talking to a lost person, they have no concept, no understanding of scripture.
- 13:38Remember we went through 1 Corinthians 2, and it's the Holy Spirit that gives
- 13:43us the deep understanding of Christ. So anyway, in the words of God.
- 13:48So when we're talking about the Holy Spirit, in this particular case,
- 13:52I kind of went on a rabbit trail there, but I just want to talk about the image.
- 13:55The image is Christ, But all three are always God.
- 13:59Jesus Christ is God, the Holy Spirit is God, and obviously God the Father is God.
- 14:03That is what they are. Now, we are human beings. However, we differ in personality. Okay?
- 14:10So when we look at this doctrine that God is, that Jesus, I'm sorry,
- 14:14the Holy Spirit is God, it connects or it's in conjunction with the fact that he's a person.
- 14:20So if he's God, he's not just a part of God. He's not just God's force or spirit.
- 14:27He is an actual person that has community, has relationship with God.
- 14:33Now, here's a simple question asked.
- 14:35A lot of Muslims, of course, they attack the Trinity. They don't like the doctrine of the Trinity.
- 14:40But here's the thing that they don't understand.
- 14:43How many of you believe that God is love? Right.
- 14:46I mean, scripture is pretty clear, right? God's love, right?
- 14:49Let me ask you something. If all you did was just love yourself,
- 14:52is that a picture of true love?
- 14:55No. Love has to be an expression for someone else.
- 14:59That's what you love is. Like you love your children, right?
- 15:02You love your family, you love your siblings, your spouse, so forth and so on. You express love.
- 15:08And of course, according to scripture, the first time the word love shows up
- 15:12is in Genesis chapter 22. when Abraham is offering up Isaac,
- 15:16he says, take thy son, thine only son, whom thou lovest.
- 15:21So what does God do the very first time he allows that word love to show up
- 15:25in your Bible? He defines the word love for you.
- 15:28You know what love is? It's duty, sacrifice, obligation.
- 15:32Love is not an emotion. Love is not a feeling. It is an obligation.
- 15:37So you know what, as a husband, for example, when the Bible says a man should
- 15:42love his wife, it's not just an emotional appeal.
- 15:46It must be that he's willing to love and have an obligation and a duty and a
- 15:51sacrifice for his wife, right? Isn't that what the Bible tells us?
- 15:54Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church. So the Bible is very consistent.
- 15:59So it tells you that love is not just an emotion.
- 16:01It is a sacrifice duty. Well, guess what? That word love, in the book of Genesis
- 16:06chapter 22, you see a picture of a father offering his only son in connection with love.
- 16:13So the Bible gives you a beautiful picture of that.
- 16:16With Jesus Christ, I don't even know where I got off of that too.
- 16:19I'm completely rabbit trail. Okay. Anyway.
- 16:21But the point is, is that Jesus Christ is God.
- 16:25He's not just a part of God, but he is a separate, oh, the love.
- 16:29That's what it was. That's right.
- 16:30Love. Hello. I just got to keep talking and it'll come back to me.
- 16:34But here's what I talk about with Muslims. Muslims don't understand the concept
- 16:37of love because they go, because if you ask them, does Allah show perfect true love?
- 16:42Oh yeah, he loves, if he chooses to love you, he's a very arbitrary God.
- 16:47But you cannot have love unless you have something or someone to love.
- 16:52You understand? There has to be some expression of love. Well,
- 16:56if in the beginning it was just God, there was no creation, there was no sons
- 17:01of God, there was no angels, there was nothing.
- 17:04And if there was only just God and there was no Trinity, who does God love at that point? Himself.
- 17:12Is that true love? No, not according to the Bible.
- 17:16Love always has to be an expression of some object or a person that you are showing love to.
- 17:22That way, so just the fact that the very nature of God is love proves the Trinity,
- 17:28because if the Trinity didn't exist, then all God did was just love himself.
- 17:33But if the Trinity existed and he was in existence from eternity with the Holy
- 17:38Spirit as a person, with the word Jesus Christ as a person, and God the Father
- 17:44as a person, guess what? they all love each other equally.
- 17:48There's an expression of love. It's perfect love. So without the Trinity,
- 17:53you can't have perfect love.
- 17:54So anyway, so in this study, it's going to be a real simple study.
- 18:00All we're going to show is that the Holy Spirit has the same attributes as God.
- 18:04He's worshiped. He receives worship. He's part of worship.
- 18:08He's part of that community. There is perfect unity in the Trinity,
- 18:12and the Holy Spirit is dealt with just like God the Father is dealt with and just like God the Son.
- 18:18Now, there's a little bit of a difference, and those differences only mark their ministries.
- 18:24God the Father's ministry is different than God the Son, right?
- 18:28God the Son, his ministry was different than God the Holy Spirit's.
- 18:32But we'll see a lot of connections here. So anyway, here, the Spirit,
- 18:37the Scripture directly identifies the Holy Ghost as God affirming his full identity,
- 18:41you know, his deity and divine authority.
- 18:43So that's one of those statements. Remember I told you the bottom line up front statement, the bluff?
- 18:49So somebody goes, well, what do you believe of the Holy Spirit?
- 18:51Well, I believe the Scripture teaches that he's God, period.
- 18:55Now you know what the next step is. Okay, prove it. This is where you write
- 18:59these verses down in your Bible.
- 19:01This is where you highlight, and this is probably the best thing.
- 19:05How many of you have done like your own chain reference in your Bible when it
- 19:10comes to different doctrines or beliefs? A couple of you.
- 19:13So you don't take chain reference. Obviously, if you have a Thompson chain reference,
- 19:17it takes a topic and then you run that topic by the numbers right throughout Scripture.
- 19:21Well, one of the things I did when I was younger, because I would be on the
- 19:25street and somebody would throw a question, And, you know, why is it,
- 19:28you know, you know, why, you know, if Jesus drank wine, you know,
- 19:31why can't we drink wine? You know, that's, that was a popular one.
- 19:33And I really didn't know an answer to that all the time.
- 19:36So what I did is eventually I'd studied out, I come up with my own answer.
- 19:40So in my Bible, in the front, I would put wine and then I would put, you know, Jesus Christ.
- 19:46I would put like John three, the marriage of Cana.
- 19:48And then I would put in parentheses, Jesus never drank wine.
- 19:52And it would always kind of prompt me when somebody goes, well,
- 19:55you know, if Jesus drank wine.
- 19:57Why can't I? And I would say, well, Jesus never drank wine. There's not one
- 20:00instance in scripture where he ever drank wine.
- 20:03Never. Can't find it. And then of course they would argue and they say,
- 20:06well, Jesus Christ, he made a bunch of wine at Cana.
- 20:09Well, if I had my chain reference, John 3, go to John 3.
- 20:12And then I would say, I go back to Habakkuk chapter 2, where it says,
- 20:16woe unto him that giveth his neighbor drink and causes him to be naked.
- 20:20It was actually a curse and it was a violation of the law. Did Jesus Christ
- 20:25fulfill the law or did he violate the law?
- 20:28You see, so the problem is it's inconsistent with the nature of Jesus Christ.
- 20:31If Jesus Christ, remember I told you the consequence of the worldview?
- 20:35Well, if Jesus Christ let them drink, he violated the law. And if he violated
- 20:40the law, then he's not God.
- 20:42So anyway, another one I would always kind of challenge, but say,
- 20:46well, if you can walk on water and you can rise from the dead,
- 20:50you can drink all the wine you want.
- 20:52But the point is, is that you always, what I did is I just put that note in
- 20:56the side of my Bible so that if I was dealing with somebody,
- 20:58I could just go to that verse. And that's something I had to study out.
- 21:01Pastor was talking about it Wednesday night, that you ought to be taking notes.
- 21:05Your Bible should be chocked full of notes. And it's not just daily devotions.
- 21:10It shouldn't be just, you know, the spiritual devotional stuff that encourage
- 21:14you. It should be doctrine.
- 21:16You know, you ought to have Acts 5, 2 Corinthians 3, Acts 20 and 28.
- 21:21If you want to have like the Trinity, put those three verses there.
- 21:24Holy Spirit, put those three verses there. Holy Spirit is God.
- 21:28Three verses, right? Four or five verses.
- 21:30Anyway, what I'm going to do is at the end of every lesson, I'm going to start
- 21:33including some notes you should put in your Bible.
- 21:36And then what I'm going to do at the end of the semester is I'm going to give you a one-pager.
- 21:40It's just a one-page quick reference guide that encapsulates the entire semester
- 21:45on one page so that you can put in your Bible, you can carry as a reference
- 21:49because you ought to learn these things.
- 21:52You are obligated, according to scripture, to give an answer to every man.
- 21:56Bible doesn't say, well, you know, if you feel like it, give an answer. It doesn't say that.
- 22:01You have an obligation. So Acts 5 here, obviously this is Ananias and Sapphira.
- 22:06Peter rebukes them because they lied about what they were going to give to the church, right?
- 22:10It wasn't the amount that was in question. It was the fact that they lied about it.
- 22:15Because Peter even said, hey, it was yours the entire time.
- 22:18You didn't have to give, But the problem is, is when you said you were going
- 22:22to give this amount, you lied about it.
- 22:24And he says, you didn't lie to us. You didn't lie to the church. Who did you lie to?
- 22:28God. But he says this, you lied to the Holy Ghost. So when you lie to the Holy
- 22:32Ghost, you're lying to God. That's what the Bible is telling you.
- 22:36You don't lie again to an inanimate force or spirit or a rock.
- 22:42Okay. 2 Corinthians 3.17, the Bible says the Lord is that spirit.
- 22:47And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there's liberty. The Spirit of the Lord,
- 22:51he's called the Spirit of the Lord.
- 22:52We'll study that when we look at the titles and the names of the Holy Spirit in the next lesson.
- 22:57But the Bible tells you the Lord is that Spirit.
- 23:01John 4, verse 24, the Bible says the Lord, that God is a Spirit,
- 23:06and you must worship him in spirit and truth.
- 23:09So this connection of the Spirit, there's a direct statement that he is,
- 23:13the Lord is that Spirit. The Lord, by the way, is a title.
- 23:17The Lord, the Lord God, the Lord, it says, Jesus Christ is Lord.
- 23:22The Spirit is the Lord. So it's a title. It's like saying King,
- 23:27you know, King Alfred, King Philip, King whatever, right?
- 23:31The title just shows you that he is Lord.
- 23:35Now, Acts 20, 28, take heed therefore, and we'll look at this verse a little
- 23:39bit more detail at the end, but take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all
- 23:42the flock over which the Holy Ghost, he's named, right,
- 23:46hath made you overseers, and that's the antecedent, that's the subject,
- 23:51to feed the church of God. God is mentioned, right?
- 23:56Remember the Holy Spirit's God, the Son's God, the Father's God,
- 23:59which he hath purchased with his own blood.
- 24:02Who shed their blood for the church?
- 24:05Jesus Christ. But when you look at that verse, was it God, the Holy Spirit,
- 24:10or Jesus Christ that shed his blood.
- 24:13See, it's tricky. The Bible's telling you God shed his blood,
- 24:16but the Bible's also telling you the Holy Spirit shed his blood,
- 24:19but we all know that it was Jesus Christ that shed his blood.
- 24:22The Bible does that a lot of times. If you're not careful and you're not paying
- 24:26attention to the grammar, then you'll miss very important key doctrines.
- 24:30This is why I told you whenever you get into a conversation with somebody,
- 24:34somebody challenges you on your belief, don't automatically theoretically assume
- 24:38that that person's right.
- 24:40Assume that that person has never read a Bible.
- 24:43That's usually my first assumption. That's why anytime somebody challenges me,
- 24:47a lot of times my first response is, that's not what the Bible says.
- 24:51Even if I haven't even looked at the verse, I'll say that. I'll just say it
- 24:54automatically. Well, that's not what the Bible says.
- 24:56And the reason why is because it'll say, well, okay, then what does the Bible
- 24:59say? Well, I'm glad you asked. Let's open it up and look.
- 25:02And nine times out of 10, we'll look at that verse, and it does not say what they said it says.
- 25:08You know, one of their most favorite verses, you know, over there in Matthew 7 is, judge not, right?
- 25:14What's the statement? Judge not, lest ye be judged, right? Do you know the Bible doesn't say that?
- 25:19It doesn't say that in Matthew 7. It says, judge not that ye be not judged.
- 25:25That's what it says. It doesn't say, lest ye be judged. It's not in the Bible.
- 25:29So you know what I love to say? The Bible doesn't say that.
- 25:32And I'll go, yeah, it does. Jesus Christ said it. I said, show me.
- 25:35Hold on. Let me get Google real quick. You can't even find it.
- 25:39You know, most of the time, people will make a statement inadvertently,
- 25:43but they don't know how to back it up.
- 25:45You know what you shouldn't do? You shouldn't do the same thing.
- 25:48You should be able to always back up what you claim. That was the two whys for every what model.
- 25:54If you say what you believe, the first why is why is it true? Right?
- 25:58Back it up. So I would say that's not what the Bible says. If we look at it,
- 26:02judge not that ye be not judged for with what judgment ye meet,
- 26:06it shall be measured unto you again.
- 26:08The Bible isn't telling you, it's not an arbitrarily blanket statement or command not to judge.
- 26:14Matter of fact, later on in that chapter, Jesus says, judge righteous judgment, right?
- 26:18So we're not, we're not, you know, exempt from judging.
- 26:21You were expected to judge, but the point is, is you ought to judge in balanced scriptural nature.
- 26:28And if you judge somebody a certain way, be prepared to be judged that way as
- 26:32well. That's what Jesus is saying.
- 26:34So anyway, so those three verses here are very clear verses that show us that the Holy Spirit's God.
- 26:41Now, we also see that he appears alongside the Father and Son in at least four different accounts.
- 26:48The baptism of Christ, the benediction in 2 Corinthians, the commission to go
- 26:53and preach the gospel, and in salvation.
- 26:55So first, the baptism of Christ, you have in Matthew chapter three,
- 26:59and Jesus, when he was baptized,
- 27:00went up straightway out of the water, and lo, the heavens were opened up unto
- 27:03him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending, I would mark that word like,
- 27:10a dove, and lighting upon him, and lo, a voice from heaven saying,
- 27:15this is my beloved Son, and whom I will please.
- 27:17Now, two dangerous words in your Bible are like and as, okay?
- 27:21The Bible talks about similitudes and metaphors and analogies and types,
- 27:27and we'll talk about types in the next lesson.
- 27:30But typology, if you minor in typology, you minor in Bible knowledge.
- 27:34You ought to learn it. You know why? Because in John 5, verse 39,
- 27:38Jesus Christ said, Search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal
- 27:40life, for they are they which testify of death.
- 27:43Me, right? Luke 24, he's walking on the road doing mass.
- 27:47And remember those two young men were upset because of everything that happened.
- 27:52And he told them, he said, the Bible says that Jesus Christ says,
- 27:55oh, you fools of slow heart to believe.
- 27:57Don't you know, this is everything I was supposed to go through.
- 27:59And he says, the Bible says he opened unto them the law, the prophets and the
- 28:03Psalms, and he showed them all things concerning himself.
- 28:06I remember Brother Knox said one time, he says, Jesus Christ is in every passage
- 28:10of the Bible, or at least every chapter or every book of the Bible.
- 28:13And if you didn't see him there, you just missed him.
- 28:16Jesus Christ is part of the scripture. So what you see here is that word like or as is very dangerous.
- 28:22Does it say, remember, pay attention to what it says, does it say that a dove landed on Jesus Christ?
- 28:29No, it said the spirit like a dove.
- 28:34So the method or the manner in which he's descending is similar to a dove, right?
- 28:39It's the same thing in Acts chapter one. The Bible says tongues like as a fire.
- 28:45It doesn't say fire. So you know what the two symbols you see all the time is
- 28:48a dove and a fire. They go, oh, that's the Holy Spirit.
- 28:50No, those are types of, they're pictures of, and it's not, it was not actual
- 28:56cloven tongues of fire that sat on their heads. The Bible says they were like as of fire.
- 29:02So anyway, pay attention to that. But the point here is you see all three show
- 29:05up. Jesus, the son, is being baptized.
- 29:08God, the father, is the one who says, this is my beloved son,
- 29:11whom I'm well pleased. And it's the spirit of God descending like a dove.
- 29:14So you see all three show up.
- 29:16And then you see here in the benediction, 2 Corinthians 13, 14,
- 29:19Paul's ending 2 Corinthians, the epistle.
- 29:22He says, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
- 29:26and the communion of the Holy Spirit.
- 29:28All three are listed. And then you see in the commission, John 14,
- 29:3116, 26, this is where Jesus Christ is commissioning the spirit.
- 29:35He says, and I will pray the father and give you, he goes, and he shall give you another comforter.
- 29:41So who's sending the comforter according to that first part? The father, right?
- 29:45That he may abide with you forever, but the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,
- 29:49whom the father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring
- 29:53all things to your remembrance whatsoever I've said.
- 29:55Now, if you read the rest of John 14 and you go to John 16, you find out that
- 29:59Jesus Christ sends the comforter, but he just said, God, the father.
- 30:03You see that over and over again. You always see whatever the father does,
- 30:08the son's part of and the Holy Spirit's part of.
- 30:11If the Holy Spirit was not a part of the Trinity, why is he constantly being
- 30:16brought up in this Trinitarian formula? Why?
- 30:20Because he's not just an inanimate force of God. Why?
- 30:24If he were just talking about the strength of God or God's force or God's nature,
- 30:30then why is he constantly being referred to?
- 30:33That's a problem, right? Then of course, in salvation, the Bible says,
- 30:36elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father. There's God the Father.
- 30:39Through the sanctification of the Spirit, the sanctification of the Spirit,
- 30:44that sanctification is being made pure, holy.
- 30:47It's a process. Well, that's done by the Spirit.
- 30:50Who baptizes you into Christ? The Spirit does.
- 30:53Who places you into the body of the church? The Spirit does.
- 30:57Who separates your body from your soul, according to Colossians chapter 2? The Holy Spirit does.
- 31:02So that's that sanctification. Unto obedience and the sprinkling of the blood
- 31:06of Jesus Christ. So it's the blood of Jesus Christ that purifies our soul.
- 31:10It's the Holy Spirit that baptizes us into Christ.
- 31:14When you read Romans chapter 6, and we say it a lot, every time somebody's baptized,
- 31:19we say, I baptize you, brother, in the name of the Father, Son,
- 31:21and the Holy Spirit. buried with him in likeness, risen to walk.
- 31:25That is not referring to water baptism. It has nothing to do with water baptism.
- 31:30We baptize in water because that is a picture of what spiritually happened to you.
- 31:35You spiritually were baptized into Christ, and you were spiritually risen to walk in newness of life.
- 31:42We just baptize because all we're showing with the baptism is,
- 31:46look what happened to me on the inside.
- 31:49I'm just showing you a physical outward. So that verse, don't get confused when
- 31:53you read Romans chapter six and go, oh, water baptism. It has nothing to do with water baptism.
- 31:58But when it comes to your salvation, all three are involved in your salvation.
- 32:04God is the one that sends the son. God is the one that forgives through the
- 32:07blood of Christ. It's Jesus Christ who shed his blood for your salvation.
- 32:10But it's the Holy Spirit that does all that work.
- 32:14Ephesians chapter one, the Bible tells us, I think verse 12,
- 32:1713, it says, you, when you heard the gospel, you believed it, right?
- 32:21What happens as soon as you believe it, you're sealed with that spirit of promise.
- 32:27How long are you sealed until?
- 32:29Till the day of redemption, Ephesians 430, right? So that happens at the moment of salvation.
- 32:35Okay. So the divine attributes of the Holy Ghost.
- 32:41So means he's everywhere all at once.
- 32:45Psalm 139 verse 7 and 8, whither shall I go from thy spirit or whither shall
- 32:49I flee from thy presence?
- 32:50If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there. If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
- 32:56So it doesn't matter if you go to heaven or hell, the Holy Spirit's there.
- 33:01Now, years ago, Billy Graham preached a message and he taught a theology that
- 33:06hell is just separation from God. How many of you ever heard that?
- 33:09You know, if you go to hell, you're going to be separated from God forever. That's not true.
- 33:13Bible tells us in Hebrews chapter 10, that our God is a consuming fire.
- 33:17What happens when a person goes to hell is all the mercy and all the grace that
- 33:22was protecting you from the wrath of God is removed.
- 33:26You now go right and directly into the presence of God and you burn for eternity.
- 33:32There is no separation from God. The Holy Spirit, the Bible says,
- 33:37is also in heaven or hell, no matter where you go. That's omnipresence.
- 33:42Ignatience is all-knowing. You know everything. Science is knowledge.
- 33:46So 1 Corinthians 2.10, But God hath revealed them the deep things of God,
- 33:51remember, unto us by his Spirit, for the Spirit of the Church, all things.
- 33:56Matter of fact, the Bible says that every single believer that's indwelt with
- 33:59the Spirit, he says, I will bring all, he, the Holy Spirit, will bring all things to your remembrance.
- 34:07That means he has to have infinite knowledge and he has to be present in every
- 34:11single believer at the same time.
- 34:13That's not an attribute of a rock. You understand? It's an attribute of God.
- 34:20Omnipotence is all power. And so Zechariah 4, 6, then he answered,
- 34:25said to me, this is the word of the Lord, undesirable,
- 34:28saying not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, say it,
- 34:33the Lord of hosts. You see that capital L-O-R-D?
- 34:36That's always a translation of the Hebrew tetragrammaton, which is the Y-W-H,
- 34:44Jehovah. We would say Jehovah.
- 34:46But he says there, he says, it's not by power, it's not by might, but it's by my spirit.
- 34:51He's speaking to Zerubbabel, especially towards the end and rebuilding of Jerusalem
- 34:56and so forth and so on, that man can't do anything in and of themselves.
- 35:00And even God, whenever he wants to display or demonstrate his power,
- 35:04it's always connected to his spirit.
- 35:06What happened in Acts chapter 4 when the disciples were preaching,
- 35:11the Bible says that they were filled with the Spirit and they were filled with much boldness, right?
- 35:17You know what gives you boldness to go and witness to somebody that you could
- 35:21never witness to before?
- 35:23You know what gives you boldness to stand in front of people where you couldn't
- 35:27stand in front of people and preach the gospel or witness or do something or
- 35:31even respond or defend the faith? It's the Holy Spirit that does that.
- 35:35If you do not have the filling of the Holy Spirit, you're going to lack boldness.
- 35:39You're going to have problems trying to witness to people. If you try to serve
- 35:43God in the flesh, you'll never do it.
- 35:45Matter of fact, if you try to serve God in the flesh, I think it was an excellent
- 35:48message Brother Welder preached Sunday night about the fear of the Lord.
- 35:51That should point you to your primary motivation. Are you doing it because you're trying to please men?
- 35:57I love the fact that Brother Welder knows this church. He's been around Capitol
- 36:00City for 30 plus years, right?
- 36:02He knows that this is a high-performance church, that nine times out of ten,
- 36:07most kids do things because they're trying to plead Pastor Bob,
- 36:10Pastor Ben, Pastor Adam. That's why they do everything.
- 36:13They show up. They pass out tracts. They give in their tithe.
- 36:18They do all this other stuff because they're trying to please the man behind the pulpit.
- 36:21You're going to be judged at the judgment sheet of Christ for why you did what you did.
- 36:25And the only way that you would have the power to do the right thing when there's no pastor to watch you,
- 36:31there's no mom and dad there to defend you, the only way that you're going to
- 36:35be able to sit down with a Muslim or a Mormon or a Jehovah's Witness and defend
- 36:40that book is that the Holy Spirit fills you with his knowledge and his power.
- 36:45Listen, when we went to ACL, I remember the first time we went,
- 36:48there's 400,000 people out there.
- 36:51And you get up on a ladder and you start to preach to tens of thousands of people
- 36:56cussing you out and throwing beer bottles at you and doing all this stuff.
- 37:00Trust me, there's nothing in this flesh that wants to be out there.
- 37:05I don't want to be around that kind of stuff, but I've been around that stuff for 35 years now.
- 37:10And I'm telling you, the only way I can possibly do that is with the filling
- 37:15of the Holy Spirit. That's the only way I could do it.
- 37:17There's no way I could do it in and of myself. There's times where I was able
- 37:20to give an answer within 30 seconds because the Holy Spirit gave me the response.
- 37:25Because I had no clue what I was going to say.
- 37:27So anyway, that's omnipotence. That's all power. Then, of course, eternal.
- 37:32Hebrews 9 and 14. how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal
- 37:37spirit, he's eternal, he's not mortal, offered himself without spot to God.
- 37:42So the Holy Spirit is, he's eternal, he's omnipotent, he's omniscient, he's omnipresent.
- 37:48So he has the attributes of God.
- 37:51Listen, when you look at stuff like that and you're like, oh,
- 37:53wow, he has all those attributes, then you can come to a reasonable conclusion
- 37:58that he has the same attributes of God, he must be God.
- 38:03It's not unreasonable to conclude that. The problem with the person that denies
- 38:08it is they're now gonna have to deny those passages.
- 38:10They're gonna have to reject those passages. They're gonna have to prove that
- 38:13those passages are not saying what they say. That's why pay attention to what it says.
- 38:18All right, Holy Ghost is identified as God. This is pretty interesting.
- 38:21Here's the Old Testament quote, New Testament quote. So for,
- 38:25you know, I put down there in the caption, what Jehovah says in the Old Testament,
- 38:28the Holy Ghost says in the New Testament, proving that they're one in the same.
- 38:32Old Testament, also Isaiah 6, 8, 9, also I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
- 38:37so it's the voice of the Lord, hear ye indeed, but understand not,
- 38:40and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
- 38:43Acts 28, 25, well spake the Holy Ghost.
- 38:46Here is the Lord of us by Isaiah the prophet unto our father saying,
- 38:51it's the Holy Ghost speaking, go unto this people hearing you shall hear,
- 38:55you shall not understand, and seeing you shall see and not perceive.
- 38:59That's exactly what the Lord said.
- 39:00But in the New Testament, it tells you it's the Holy Spirit.
- 39:03In the Old Testament, it's telling you it's God.
- 39:06Must be the same person. Psalms 95, 8 through 10,
- 39:10harden not your heart as in the provocation, as in the day of temptation,
- 39:13the wilderness, when your fathers tempted me, proved me, saw my work,
- 39:1640 years long, was I grieved with this generation, said, it is a people that
- 39:21do err in their heart, they've not known my ways.
- 39:24Hebrews 3, 7 through 10 is quoting Psalms.
- 39:28Wherefore, as the Holy Ghost sayeth. It's the Lord that's speaking in Psalm
- 39:3495. Just go back and look at the context.
- 39:36As the Holy Ghost sayeth, today, if you'll hear his voice, that's exactly what he's saying.
- 39:40He goes, harden not your hearts as in the provocation, the temptation of the
- 39:44wilderness, when your fathers tempted me.
- 39:46That's the Holy Ghost speaking. Wait a minute. I thought that the Jews were
- 39:50tempting God the Father.
- 39:53You can't explain those things. I'm not trying to tell you I understand it all.
- 39:57I'm just trying to tell you that's what the Bible says. You have a choice.
- 40:00You can either believe it or reject it. It's up to you.
- 40:03You do not have to convince somebody to believe. That's not your job.
- 40:07What you have to do is show them the truth.
- 40:10And then you have to leave it at their conscience to decide between them and God.
- 40:15You have done your job if you've shown them the truth.
- 40:19I understand that, you know, we use the term soul winning all the time.
- 40:22Do you understand there's not one verse in your Bible that commands you to soul win? Doesn't exist.
- 40:28Oh, but Brother Gamis in Proverbs, it says, he that win his souls. It's not a commandment.
- 40:32But you know what you are commanded to do? Be a witness. You're commanded to testify.
- 40:37You're commanded to tell the truth and preach the gospel. You're commanded to do all those things.
- 40:41But you are not commanded to win souls. That's the job of God.
- 40:46The Lord added to the church daily, such as should be saved. Not you.
- 40:50Your job is to be bold enough and to know that Bible enough to put the truth out.
- 40:57When you look at 2 Thessalonians 2, and it talks about the ministry of the Antichrist,
- 41:01you know who are going to be deceived?
- 41:03Those who did not have the love of the truth.
- 41:09Right? It doesn't matter if you're rejected. What matters is,
- 41:13is did you do the best job you could to defend the faith?
- 41:16Did you do the best job you knew how to present the truth?
- 41:20Right? Anyway, Hebrews 7.10, chapter 3, verses 7-10 shows you that it's the
- 41:27Holy Ghost that was speaking. It's interchangeable.
- 41:31Jeremiah 31, thus saith the Lord, L-O-R-D, Jehovah, but this shall be the covenant
- 41:38which I'll make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord,
- 41:41I will put my law on their inward parts.
- 41:43I will write in their hearts for I will forgive their iniquity and I'll remember their sins no more.
- 41:47Hebrews 10, 15, whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us for after that
- 41:54he had said, the Holy Ghost, this is the covenant that I'll make with them after
- 42:00those days, They say it, the Lord,
- 42:02he goes, I will put my law into their hearts and in their minds and I'll write
- 42:06in them and their sins and iniquities I'll remember no more.
- 42:08See that? It's interchangeable. You see the Holy, you see God speaking in the
- 42:12old Testament, but you see the Holy Spirit is the one that's speaking in the
- 42:15new Testament. How do you explain that?
- 42:18Maybe the translators put it in there on purpose because they're trying to teach the Trinity.
- 42:21Maybe a bunch of Catholic monks got a hold of the Bible, every single Bible,
- 42:25every single manuscript that ever existed, and made sure that,
- 42:27no, that was God. God knew exactly what he was saying.
- 42:32Just because a Mormon, Jehovah's Witness, or a Muslim can't see it does not mean that it's not true.
- 42:39Have you ever seen anybody where, you know, like, maybe they refuse to hear
- 42:43a truth or see a truth, and you're like, look, just open your eyes.
- 42:45No, I'm not going to look.
- 42:47I don't believe you. I'm just not going to look, right? You know what that's
- 42:50called? It's called a fallacy. A fallacy is an error in reasoning.
- 42:53That's called the personal incredulity fallacy. That means it doesn't matter
- 42:57how much evidence you show them, they're going to reject it anyway.
- 43:00You know, that's what happens in this generation. Because this generation isn't interested in facts.
- 43:06They're not interested in knowledge. They're not interested in the truth.
- 43:09All they're interested in is pleasing themselves.
- 43:11Isn't that what Timothy, Paul was telling Timothy, in the last days,
- 43:15men shall be lovers of their own selves.
- 43:18Because people don't want the truth. They just want to know what they are.
- 43:21How many of you have ever heard the statement? Another rabbit trail, sorry.
- 43:24How many of you have ever heard the statement? It's like, you know,
- 43:27you got your truth. I got my truth. Everybody's got a different truth, right?
- 43:30Have you ever looked up the first time the phrase his truth shows up in your Bible?
- 43:35It's in the book of Genesis. And Abraham is speaking.
- 43:39And he starts talking about God. And the phrase his truth is the first time
- 43:44it shows up in the book of Genesis.
- 43:46You know, he says his truth is God's truth. That means God does have a version of the truth.
- 43:51Here's a simple question. Is what God says is true because he said it or because
- 43:57he just always speaks the truth?
- 44:00What is the source of all truth? God is the God of truth.
- 44:05And just and right is he a God of, he's not of iniquity, Deuteronomy,
- 44:09right? The Lord's our rock, so forth, so on.
- 44:12God is a God of truth. Jesus Christ says, he says, I am the truth,
- 44:19the way, the life, right?
- 44:21John 17, 17, sanctify them by thy word. Thy word is truth.
- 44:25Remember the rhetorical question that Pilate asked? What is truth?
- 44:30You know what he did right after he said, ask that question?
- 44:33He turned away and walked away. You know why? Because he really wasn't interested in the truth.
- 44:37But here's the thing, the truth was standing.
- 44:40And it's funny because in Latin, the statement, what is truth?
- 44:46You know what it actually translates, that word Latin does? It's standing right in front of you.
- 44:52He didn't know the truth was standing, but God is a God of truth.
- 44:55God does not contradict.
- 44:56So the point is, is this, God put truth in the book, whether we understand it,
- 45:02whether we agree with it, whether we like it or not, God doesn't ask your opinion.
- 45:06The Bible doesn't say that your faith is dependent on you understanding.
- 45:12God never commands you to understand the Bible.
- 45:15He commands you to believe it. There's a difference.
- 45:19You need to understand that distinction. It's not about just believing or understanding it.
- 45:24Well, Brother Gamus, I don't understand the Trinity. Okay, who cares?
- 45:28I don't understand everything that happened to me when I got saved,
- 45:31but I still got saved because I trust what he says, right?
- 45:35I struggle with eternal security for years and years and years.
- 45:38First John chapter five and verse 12 and 13, remember it says,
- 45:42these things have I written unto you that you believe, that believe in the name
- 45:44of the Son of God, that you may know you have eternal life.
- 45:48He didn't say these things, these emotions, I've just filled you up with all
- 45:51kinds of goodness and elation and happiness so that you know you're saved.
- 45:57No, he says, these things have I written so that you may know.
- 46:01What's the basis of my eternal security? What's written in the book.
- 46:05I don't understand it. All I know is that's what it says. So anyway,
- 46:09scripture say, we'll look at a couple of these verses. This is interesting.
- 46:12You know, the Bible tells us 1 Corinthians 2, John 14, all this other stuff,
- 46:16that scripture is the product of the Holy Spirit. He's the one that produces the Spirit.
- 46:19Like 1 Peter 1.20, holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Spirit.
- 46:25Romans 9.17, notice what it says, for the scripture saith. Wait a minute.
- 46:31Scripture speaks? Well, according to Romans 9.17, what does it say?
- 46:35Unto Pharaoh, even for this same purpose of I raise thee up.
- 46:39So he's speaking to Pharaoh. But if you go back to Exodus, you know who's speaking?
- 46:43It's Moses. You know who Moses is quoting? God.
- 46:47But Paul tells you, oh, no, that was scripture saying. Sometimes you can't even
- 46:51tell the difference between scripture and God.
- 46:54Sometimes you can't even tell the difference between Jesus Christ and the scripture.
- 46:58But look what it says here, Exodus 9.13. the Lord said unto Moses.
- 47:02So it says, Scripture saith, and it says, the Lord says.
- 47:05You have another one, John 19. It says, and again, another scripture saith,
- 47:09they shall look on him whom they pierced, Zechariah 12, 10, and they shall look upon me.
- 47:14It says, they shall look on him.
- 47:16The pronoun has changed in the New Testament because it's speaking in the third
- 47:21person of what Zechariah said. But what did Zechariah say?
- 47:25Say, he says, they're going to look on me whom they pierced.
- 47:27Wait a minute, when you go to Zechariah chapter 12, you know what you read in
- 47:31the very first verse of Zechariah?
- 47:34It's God, the Lord, Jehovah speaking.
- 47:38When did God, Jehovah, when was he pierced so that all men would look upon him?
- 47:44I thought Jesus Christ was pierced.
- 47:47See, the problem is, is once you reject the Trinity, you're going to have a
- 47:49whole lot of scripture you're going to have to deal with.
- 47:52And so anyway, we see this parallel again. Acts 28, well spake the Holy Ghost by Isaiah, right?
- 48:00We looked at this verse, but he says in Isaiah 6, the voice of the Lord saying.
- 48:05Again, it's the Holy Spirit that's speaking and it's God speaking at the same time, right?
- 48:12So who purchased the church? Now let's look at this verse. We just kind of covered it.
- 48:17But take heed, therefore, unto yourselves, unto all the flock,
- 48:21over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers.
- 48:25Okay, now if you were to take this comma, this section, this phrase out,
- 48:31it goes, over which the Holy Ghost, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
- 48:35It's the Holy Ghost that purchased with his own blood, but when he's a spirit, how did he do that?
- 48:40But then it says, feed the church of God, take that verse, which he,
- 48:45God, purchased with his own blood.
- 48:47But wait a minute, God's a spirit, John chapter four. Well, how did he get pierced?
- 48:53How did he shed his blood?
- 48:54Well, we all know it's Jesus Christ that shed his blood, according to Romans
- 48:58chapter six and Romans five and so forth and so on, right?
- 49:00So it's the blood of Christ. It's Jesus Christ, unless the Holy Ghost is God,
- 49:06God the Father is God, and Jesus Christ is God.
- 49:10You try to show, you get a Jehovah's Witness to explain that verse to you.
- 49:14They're gonna have a tough time. And again, this is why you're,
- 49:17I know some of you might be nervous talking to somebody, read the Bible.
- 49:23If anything, if you don't know how to answer the question, at least ask them,
- 49:28can we look at the passage?
- 49:31You're telling me that Jesus Christ is not God and you're quoting a verse off
- 49:35the top of your head. But can I open up on my Bible and let me look at this?
- 49:39Look at it with your own eyes. If they cannot prove to you that the scripture is saying.
- 49:45How many of you have ever heard the statement? Well, this is what it means, right?
- 49:50I get so annoyed with that phrase. I could care less what it means.
- 49:57I don't care what the scriptures mean. It can mean a thousand different things, right?
- 50:03I mean, if the Bible wasn't interpreted by man in so many different ways,
- 50:07we wouldn't have a thousand different denominations.
- 50:10And this is why Catholics, they always, and it's so funny, because they attack Protestants.
- 50:13They go, why are there so many denominations if Protestants,
- 50:17you know, the Sola Scriptura is right?
- 50:20Why do you have so many different denominations?
- 50:23Catholics can't even agree. That's why they have to have a council and they
- 50:26have to say, well, this is what we're going to officially teach.
- 50:28Because there's so much infighting with all of our church fathers and popes and stuff.
- 50:33The point of the matter is that the only interpreter of Scripture is Scripture.
- 50:37The only author of Scripture is the Holy Spirit. If you do not have the Holy
- 50:41Spirit, you'll always misinterpret the scripture.
- 50:44So I don't worry so much about what it means so much as what it says, right?
- 50:50There's a, I'm trying to think, there's a verse.
- 50:54It's on top of my head. Oh, we'll look at it in the types.
- 50:59But one of the, a great type of the Holy Spirit is Eliezer in Genesis chapter
- 51:0324, where he's getting a bride for Isaac, okay? So he's getting Rebecca his bride.
- 51:10The Bible says that he retells the exact words of Abraham, God the father,
- 51:16word for word, exactly as he said it.
- 51:20And then, of course, you know what happens at the end of the chapter?
- 51:23There's 66 at the 66th verse, happens to be 66 books in your Bible.
- 51:29It says that the servant retells the entire story from beginning to end to Joseph. Okay.
- 51:37Or Isaac, I'm sorry, about his bride. So you have here, you have the father,
- 51:43Abraham, sending the spirit.
- 51:45The spirit goes and he gets a bride for his master's son, Jesus Christ. That's the church.
- 51:52And guess what? He tells him at verse 66, everything that he's done.
- 51:56That's your Bible. Your Bible tells you it's a testimony of everything the father
- 52:01has done for us everything that we understand about Jesus Christ.
- 52:04So here's the statement.
- 52:07And I have another slide here, but this is the statement that we officially
- 52:12believe. The Holy Ghost is God. That's the bluff statement.
- 52:15Okay. He creates, he regenerates, he inspires scripture. Scripture calls him God.
- 52:21He calls him the Lord. Without his deity, salvation, sanctification,
- 52:26and biblical authority collapse, falls apart. There is no salvation.
- 52:30God cannot lie or change. Malachi 3.6, you sons of Jacob, you're not destroyed.
- 52:37So his spirit must be fully divine. So when we argue, when somebody says,
- 52:42well, I just don't agree, you know, you can believe the Holy Spirit's God.
- 52:45I just don't see it that way.
- 52:48When somebody responds to you that way, push the consequence.
- 52:52If the Holy Spirit is not God, you are not saved.
- 52:57If the Holy Spirit is not God, you are not sealed by the Spirit and you have no eternal security.
- 53:03If the Holy Spirit is not God, he was not part of your salvation, you're going to hell.
- 53:09That's the consequence of rejecting the Holy Spirit.
- 53:13Okay? So here's the Bible note, And this is a little bit wordy,
- 53:17but you can reword it however you want.
- 53:19The Holy Spirit is God possessing all divine attributes. He's eternal,
- 53:23omniscient, omnipresent, and is therefore co-equal with the Father and the Son.
- 53:28And lying to the Holy Ghost is explicitly defined as lying unto God. Period.
- 53:34Well, what are the verses? Acts 5, 4, he's equal with God. Matthew 28,
- 53:39he's equality with the Father and the Son.
- 53:41Psalm 139, he's omnipresent. 1 Corinthians 2, he's omniscient.
- 53:45Hebrews 9, he's eternal.
- 53:47Those are good verses to write inside your Bible next to Holy Spirit is God.
- 53:52So when we say, you could say the Holy Spirit could be the top,
- 53:55you know, whatever the top, the title underneath it. He's a person.
- 54:00Pull in those verses that we studied in the last lesson. He's God.
- 54:04Pull in these verses that show and demonstrate he's God.
- 54:07The next part is going to be more his titles and his names.
- 54:10It talks about his attributes as far as ministry is concerned.
- 54:14And then we'll look at specifically his ministry concerning the believer. Anyway, any questions?
- 54:18The Holy Spirit is God. Okay.
- 54:20All right. That's it. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you,
- 54:22Lord, for this time. We thank you again for your word. We thank you for your
- 54:25spirit. We pray for guidance. We pray for wisdom.
- 54:28And we pray, Lord, that your spirit would instruct us, Lord, help us to give us power.
- 54:33And Lord, just especially the ability to be bold for the faith and stand up for what we believe.
- 54:38And we just love you, Lord. We thank you for everything you do for us. In Jesus' name. Amen.
