- 0:00Speaker 1: Here on a long orange Monday, we'll review the Texas game,
- 0:02Speaker 1: look ahead to the next action long Horne. We're gonna
- 0:05Speaker 1: hear more from head coach Steve Sarkisian coming up. Also,
- 0:08Speaker 1: if you have questions to get to us, happy to
- 0:14Speaker 1: field those as well. All you have to do is
- 0:16Speaker 1: text the word Texas follow by your question or comment
- 0:18Speaker 1: to eight one five three zero. That's your question or
- 0:21Speaker 1: comment to eight one five three zero. Standard messaging and
- 0:25Speaker 1: data RaSE may apply. Okay, this will harken back to
- 0:29Speaker 1: a story we had an inconceivable not that long ago.
- 0:34Speaker 1: On the text on somebody says, Craig, did you recline
- 0:36Speaker 1: your seat? And he answers, yes, I did you remember
- 0:40Speaker 1: that story camp about the person getting angry at the
- 0:43Speaker 1: person reclining their seat on the airplane.
- 0:46Speaker 2: On the airplane, Uh oh yeah, yeah I did. I
- 0:49Speaker 2: did good memory texture, Yeah, well done, I did. I did.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I did recline my seat. But but I'm good. Somebody,
- 1:00Speaker 1: if it was going to get in somebody's way, then
- 1:03Speaker 1: I would have limited my recline, but it did not,
- 1:07Speaker 1: so it worked out well.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I did reclimb my seat, though. Listen. After calling the
- 1:11Speaker 2: game Saturday, I got home.
- 1:12Speaker 1: About one o'clock in the morning, got to bed about
- 1:17Speaker 1: one thirty, got up at four point thirty to catch
- 1:24Speaker 1: that flight yesterday morning out to La Spent the whole
- 1:29Speaker 1: day out there, roaming around the Hollywood Hills and then
- 1:32Speaker 1: to the Hollywood Bowl for the concert, and then after
- 1:34Speaker 1: the concert back to Lax. Dropped the rental car, get
- 1:38Speaker 1: on a red eye flight home. We landed about eight
- 1:41Speaker 1: twenty this morning, and then it was straight over to
- 1:43Speaker 1: campus to get ready for Sark's news conference, which we
- 1:47Speaker 1: brought to you live this morning on the Zone.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So yeah, I was.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Going to recline, in other words, so I could sleep
- 1:52Speaker 1: a little bit on the plane, a little bit, you know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: even though I have learned to sleep on planes, still,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you know, you can't sleep soundly of wake up and
- 2:01Speaker 1: you know, go back to sleep and all that other
- 2:04Speaker 1: kind of stuff. So anyway, I did reclimb my seat. Okay,
- 2:09Speaker 1: somebody said, cheese. It's our favorite, too, the regular ones
- 2:14Speaker 1: or the or the extra toasty, because that's the ones
- 2:16Speaker 1: that Linda likes. This is the extra toasty. She kind
- 2:20Speaker 1: of got kind of got me turned on to him
- 2:21Speaker 1: as well. You know what, we didn't like too much
- 2:23Speaker 1: camera remember when Pizza Hut did that cheese at pizza
- 2:27Speaker 1: where they did where the crust was like a cheese it. Now,
- 2:31Speaker 1: oh yeah they did. They tried this a few a
- 2:33Speaker 1: few weeks a few years ago. The cheese it came
- 2:37Speaker 1: out kind of gooey, kind of gummy, which I would imagine,
- 2:41Speaker 1: I guess with a pizza, So it didn't really do
- 2:44Speaker 1: much for us. And then of course lately Taco Bell
- 2:46Speaker 1: has been doing that cheese at tostada thing. Uh, and
- 2:53Speaker 1: my son Jason tried that and he said it was, eh,
- 2:55Speaker 1: it's okay.
- 2:56Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:56Speaker 2: It was that kind of thing.
- 2:58Speaker 1: That's one of those deals where Linda's life. Linda says
- 3:01Speaker 1: things like stay in your lane, cheese its, you know,
- 3:04Speaker 1: just keep cranking out the extra toasty and she'll be fine.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Somebody asked, should the reffs have conferred and picked up
- 3:15Speaker 1: the flag instead of rushing to announce the DPI and
- 3:18Speaker 1: then confer while water bottles rained down before reversing themselves.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Red crew did not help these still inexcusable response by
- 3:27Speaker 1: upset fans. Okay, this opens up the Pandora's box, which
- 3:32Speaker 1: we need.
- 3:32Speaker 2: To get to.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I explained it Saturday night on the air, but I
- 3:37Speaker 1: realized not everybody was listening to us, and we're at
- 3:39Speaker 1: the game and unable to listen, or we're dieting. Some
- 3:42Speaker 1: we're watching and listening to the television call. Some might
- 3:45Speaker 1: not have been around a radio or whatever. But what
- 3:51Speaker 1: I'm about to tell you is what It's a combination
- 3:56Speaker 1: of things about the stuff that happened in the moment
- 4:00Speaker 1: there on Saturday night, and some of it retroactively comes
- 4:07Speaker 1: from the SEC in their statement, and the other is
- 4:10Speaker 1: something that happened almost in the real time that was happening.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I got worried from actual football officials about the procedure
- 4:18Speaker 1: that was going on. So obviously we're talking about the
- 4:25Speaker 1: interception by Shaddibert. You have that highlight you were playing
- 4:28Speaker 1: that you were kind of working with that as Viking
- 4:30Speaker 1: fence defensive play the game.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Right shot is you want to hear it? Yeah? Sure,
- 4:33Speaker 2: all right, So here's here's the play. Here's what happened
- 4:36Speaker 2: on the play.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Coon down to nine, Georgia Crumb the Bulldog thirty one
- 4:40Speaker 3: shotguns snapped the back, sends it out left, the intercepted
- 4:43Speaker 3: it shot a barn Barn twenty five, twenty fifteen, ten
- 4:48Speaker 3: turns it down to the nine yard line. Shot a
- 4:53Speaker 3: Baron brings it all the way back to the line
- 4:56Speaker 3: and the longbarns we'll have first and goal.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Now, let me tell you that as I called it,
- 5:03Speaker 1: I saw the flag come out, and of course, and
- 5:06Speaker 1: this is not a bad thing. But whenever that happens
- 5:09Speaker 1: and I'm in the middle of the call, I've got
- 5:12Speaker 1: let's see one, two, three, four, sometimes five additional people
- 5:20Speaker 1: in the booth, and they're all waving like flag, flag, flag,
- 5:24Speaker 1: and that's okay, and I kind of hold up my
- 5:26Speaker 1: hand to acknowledge it. Yeah, I understand it, but I'm
- 5:29Speaker 1: going to finish the call in case the call was
- 5:32Speaker 1: against the other team, which ultimately that's exactly what happened.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I even said on the air, See, that's why we
- 5:37Speaker 1: finish out the call, the highlight call, you know, that
- 5:40Speaker 1: kind of thing. But in the moment, as we know,
- 5:43Speaker 1: past interference was originally called against shoddy Barron. Now I
- 5:49Speaker 1: understand where fans had come through. I've read a lot
- 5:53Speaker 1: of social media stuff between going out to LA and
- 5:56Speaker 1: back in the last twenty four hours, and it really
- 5:59Speaker 1: start not long after the play itself happened on Saturday night,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I understand where a lot of fans.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Said, you know, it was a bleeping bleep call or whatever.
- 6:15Speaker 1: It was a terrible call, YadA YadA, and it insided
- 6:18Speaker 1: the fans to throw the bottles. And then when all
- 6:21Speaker 1: the stuff was being thrown on the field, that's when
- 6:23Speaker 1: the officials got together and change their mind.
- 6:25Speaker 2: That is incorrect, that's incorrect.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I've read another tweet where somebody said that they were
- 6:30Speaker 1: ready to snap the ball.
- 6:32Speaker 2: They were not. No, that was not correct either.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Right after it happened, when Sark was kind of, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 1: questioning it and was jumping them down and saying what
- 6:43Speaker 1: he was saying the officials, the officials then started.
- 6:47Speaker 2: To gather to discuss it.
- 6:51Speaker 1: At about the same time that students and fans in
- 6:55Speaker 1: that northeast corner started pelting the end zone. It out
- 7:00Speaker 1: on the field with the plastic contour, water bottles and
- 7:04Speaker 1: then other debris as well, which is never good.
- 7:08Speaker 2: That should never be allowed.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Sark even walked out there and said, hey, knock it off,
- 7:13Speaker 1: we don't do that. So on and so forth. I
- 7:15Speaker 1: made public address announcements all that kind of stuff. We
- 7:17Speaker 1: saw the officials go down there. Then the officials come back,
- 7:20Speaker 1: the call gets reversed, But it didn't get reversed because
- 7:24Speaker 1: of any gap in time between what happened with the bottles.
- 7:28Speaker 1: It didn't get reversed because of the water bottle incident
- 7:33Speaker 1: or the trash throwing debris throwing incident. It didn't get
- 7:36Speaker 1: reversed on review either. It's not a reviewable play. Although
- 7:40Speaker 1: many feel that pass interference should be reviewed, that's.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Not why I got reversed. Why I got reversed.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Is and from the sec they said, the officials got together.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I believe it was the field judge who threw the
- 7:55Speaker 1: flag for defensive pass interference meant to tell the referee,
- 8:03Speaker 1: I've got OPI offensive pass interference, but he didn't.
- 8:08Speaker 2: He said I got a DPI.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And so then the referee looked up there and he
- 8:13Speaker 1: saw shot and he said number seven. He goes yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 1: The official said yeah. So then they they made the announcement.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Of course, everybody loses their mind and to go and
- 8:20Speaker 1: go crazy and all the other kind of stuff. Then
- 8:24Speaker 1: they start to I think the official got a little
- 8:26Speaker 1: bit CONFUSA says a way went way minute, and they
- 8:28Speaker 1: started to have a conversation. Then the debris comes down
- 8:32Speaker 1: all right, it's later on, after the factors, after all
- 8:38Speaker 1: that happened and the stuff was cleaned up and all
- 8:40Speaker 1: of the and all of that, and Sark made his
- 8:43Speaker 1: plea to them, and then the announcement was made by
- 8:49Speaker 1: Matt Leffler, the referee, that it was not a defensive
- 8:55Speaker 1: pass interference call.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Uh.
- 8:58Speaker 1: After all of that happened, we were saying on there,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I've never seen that before. Where that would happen after that,
- 9:03Speaker 1: I've never seen that happen before. Well, we didn't know
- 9:06Speaker 1: all the stuff that went into it that when they
- 9:09Speaker 1: got together again, when they reconvened, then they said, no,
- 9:14Speaker 1: it's an offensive pass interference. Here's the rub of what happened.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Why was there the delay before that happened? One reason,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and one reason only safety. I had text messages coming
- 9:30Speaker 1: from officials who said in that sequencing, in that moment,
- 9:35Speaker 1: the first job of the referee and his crew is
- 9:38Speaker 1: to secure the safety on the field of the people
- 9:41Speaker 1: on the field. So you go and deal with the
- 9:44Speaker 1: safety issue first of the bottles and the trash. Then
- 9:49Speaker 1: you come back and finish the discussion. It wasn't that
- 9:53Speaker 1: the discussion was set up by the debris being thrown
- 9:58Speaker 1: onto the field. They had already already to walk together
- 10:01Speaker 1: to convene when the trash hit the field, then they
- 10:04Speaker 1: immediately have to turn their attention to go up to
- 10:07Speaker 1: the north east corner, get that resolved, then come back
- 10:11Speaker 1: and deal with it. So then they deal with it,
- 10:14Speaker 1: and it's an offensive pass interference call. And the reason
- 10:18Speaker 1: you didn't hear Matt Leffler, the referee say offensive pass
- 10:22Speaker 1: and difference is because Texas had declined it. He just said, yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 1: we're going down here, and then boom to get the
- 10:27Speaker 1: game going again.
- 10:28Speaker 2: It's down at the nine yard line. That's what happened.
- 10:32Speaker 1: But I understand how the appearance can look like, oh yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 1: then then they had a chance to go back and
- 10:38Speaker 1: review it, or then they had a chance to go back. No,
- 10:40Speaker 1: they had already started to gather to discuss it when
- 10:45Speaker 1: the trash was hit in the field. Then they immediately,
- 10:49Speaker 1: by rule and by their policy, have to go and
- 10:52Speaker 1: diffuse that situation before they can discuss it. So just
- 10:55Speaker 1: want to make sure that everybody understands that's what That's
- 10:59Speaker 1: what happened on that So somebody said, hey, Craig, did
- 11:05Speaker 1: you get to meet herb Street And Ben. I saw
- 11:07Speaker 1: that you were right next to them in the booth.
- 11:09Speaker 1: You got a little TV time on Saturday thanks to
- 11:12Speaker 1: Jacob from Dennison. I've met Kirk before. I've I've visited
- 11:19Speaker 1: with Herbie. In fact, I've had him on my show
- 11:21Speaker 1: in the past. Good dude, get along with him.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Five. I've not had a chance to meet Ben yet.
- 11:27Speaker 2: You know who really wants to meet Ben.
- 11:28Speaker 1: It's my wife. She loves Ben. She wants to meet Ben.
- 11:32Speaker 1: And and so no, I have not had a chance
- 11:35Speaker 1: to meet Ben. But Kirk, I know somebody else is
- 11:38Speaker 1: roasty toasty like those cheeses. And then someone I said,
- 11:42Speaker 1: Tom Brady now owns ten percent of the Las Vegas Raiders,
- 11:44Speaker 1: although Brady himself is one owned by the New York Giants.
- 11:49Speaker 1: And that's that's cute SNL weekend update there, all right, anyway,
- 11:54Speaker 1: So there's there is more of that explanation. Hopefully that
- 11:59Speaker 1: kind of helps. Now, none of that zero, none of
- 12:03Speaker 1: that condones accepts, understands or any of that. What happened
- 12:09Speaker 1: in the northeast corner of the end zone with the
- 12:11Speaker 1: throwing of the trash, it's always an absolute no. You
- 12:17Speaker 1: can't have it. You just can't have it. University's fine
- 12:19Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. They are instituting their
- 12:23Speaker 1: policy where they're scanning video to see if they can
- 12:27Speaker 1: identify because this is also, by the way, mandated by
- 12:31Speaker 1: the SEC. They have to make a good faith effort
- 12:34Speaker 1: to see if they can identify person or persons who
- 12:38Speaker 1: are throwing the debris.
- 12:40Speaker 2: On the field and.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Take action against thoseburg whether it's revoking tickets or this
- 12:46Speaker 1: or that or whatever it is, they have to do
- 12:48Speaker 1: that as part of this policy from the SEC.
- 12:52Speaker 4: It's similar, Craig, to what happened in twenty twenty two
- 12:55Speaker 4: against Alabama. Remember when we thought Bryce Shawn was Bryshaw
- 12:59Speaker 4: was so in the end zone for a safety and
- 13:01Speaker 4: and it turns out he would have been calling personal
- 13:04Speaker 4: foul against Texas Offensively, the student section was just right
- 13:07Speaker 4: behind that end zone ended up throwing things on the
- 13:09Speaker 4: field after the play. Again, yep, there's not condoning it,
- 13:14Speaker 4: but no, this is happening. This is exactly just like
- 13:17Speaker 4: Alabama two years ago.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And I understand the Texas fans getting into it with
- 13:20Speaker 1: Georgia fans posting the stories about when Georgia did it
- 13:24Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty one. All that other kind of stuff,
- 13:28Speaker 1: twenty seven thousand wrongs don't make it right. Just all
- 13:31Speaker 1: of it's wrong, every bit of it's wrong. You just
- 13:33Speaker 1: can't have it. For safety's sake, for sportsmanships sake, for
- 13:36Speaker 1: all of it. Can't have it. And I think everybody
- 13:41Speaker 1: knows that. But and I won't put it one hundred
- 13:46Speaker 1: percent on the students, but the vast majority were students.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Those who were there, you still should know better.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Can't do it. You just can't do it.
- 13:56Speaker 1: All right, We're going to hear more from Longwin s
- 13:58Speaker 1: head coach Steve sarkishan coming up on sports Radio I
- 14:00Speaker 1: Am thirteen hunder Zone in the IR radio app
