- 0:0026 years late and right on time, there's a story behind that.
- 0:06This is your daily message from Chad #1157 to upgrade your
- 0:10mental game today by telling yourself a better story.
- 0:13Because the most important story you hear is the story you tell
- 0:15yourself. This message is dedicated to Bob
- 0:18Shepherd. You get a free copy of my book,

- 0:25and hundreds of others are always available at

- 0:31You think it's too late. That upgraded thinking knows the
- 0:34mind of love has his own timetable.
- 0:37Here's the story. This month, Bob Shepard from
- 0:41Long Beach, CA, walked out to his mailbox.
- 0:45There was one piece of mail that day, a weathered postcard, soft
- 0:50at the corners, like it had been handled by time itself.
- 0:53He turned it over. The postmark on the front was
- 0:56from Copenhagen, Denmark, dated July of the year 2000.
- 1:03The message was short quote flying in.
- 1:06We saw lots of water and green Greenland everywhere in quote
- 1:10and it was signed M&D Mom and Dad, his parents, John and
- 1:16Joanne. By the time the card reached
- 1:19Bob's hand, both of them were gone.
- 1:22His mother had passed about four years ago.
- 1:24His father, an Army veteran, died six years ago during the
- 1:27pandemic. And when the when the hospital
- 1:30rules meant his son never got to say a proper goodbye, That one
- 1:34still haunts him. He says his parents were
- 1:37travellers. They went to Easter Island, the
- 1:40Galapagos, Africa. He keeps a board on his wall
- 1:44with their passport pages and their photos, a map of a life
- 1:47well lived. And now, 26 years after they
- 1:51dropped it in the mailbox in Denmark, one more piece arrived.
- 1:56The likely explanation is ordinary.
- 1:58The card slipped behind something in a postal facility,
- 2:01fell out of a bin, got rediscovered decades later and
- 2:05forwarded because Bob still lives at the same address.
- 2:09But he didn't call it ordinary. He called it a treasure.
- 2:12He called it almost a postcard from heaven.
- 2:16That card was written before anyone knew what it would come
- 2:18to mean. Just two travelers happy
- 2:21describing Greenland out of an airplane window.
- 2:24They had no idea they were writing something.
- 2:26They're grieving, son would one day hold like a relic.
- 2:30That's the thing about love you put into the world.
- 2:33You never know when it lands. You never know what it will
- 2:37weigh when it gets there. The better story to tell
- 2:40yourself is nothing I send in love is ever late.
- 2:45It arrives exactly when someone needs it.
- 2:49So for you, your action is to send it the text you keep
- 2:54meaning to send, the note in the card, the voice memo, the thing
- 2:59written down so it can outlive the moment.
- 3:02It was an ordinary Tuesday for the mail carrier who delivered
- 3:05that postcard, but it was no ordinary day for Bob.
- 3:08And your message may be received as a postcard from heaven, too.
- 3:12Tell me a story of a message that arrived late but right on
- 3:15time to from chadsmith@gmail.com.
- 3:18Send someone a text right now and tell them thinking of you
- 3:21today.
