[upbeat music] Oh, it's the song that you like hearing, 'cause you know that Full Spectrum Cycling is coming.
• 0:27
Hey, everybody. Hey, Dr. Phil. Full Spectrum Cycling number 140. One four-O. One four-zero. [clears throat] Today- Wow... on this day that you're listening to it, is the 140th time you've suffered through our show.
• 0:41
Again. I hope. Wow. Yeah, that's a long time. That is. Cripes-a-nay. That's, that's a year and a half, two, two and a half, that, couple, two or three years there. I don't know. So- And com- no combo breaking.
• 0:52
No, not yet. No. No. [laughs] I was like, uh- There were times. There were closes... is Christmas on a Wednesday?
• 0:59
We might have to do it, but we could also do it on a Tuesday or some- Uh, no, I'm pretty positive they are, uh, at least one of them's on a, uh, weekend. Well, they're both on the same day, whatever it is.
• 1:11
Right, right, right. 'Cause they're seven days apart, so. I just know that floating holiday was spoke about at some point in time, that now I have to rethink and readdress, so. Oh.
• 1:22
Yeah, how's, uh, how's burning off your, uh, accumulated vacation time going? Hmm. For the most part, okay, apart from the fact that, like, "Oh, no, you have to go to this meeting," or be in attendance of the meeting.
• 1:34
Oh. Okay. So instead of... It's like, "No, I really don't have anything to add, and all I wanna do is burn fucking hours." [laughs] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 1:43
You're making me not burn them, because it'll be like, "Why didn't you say mm." [laughs] Burning, burning the hours. I know.
• 1:51
The, for, totally, f- fucking 20 years in, first world problem, but all the same, man, I earned it. I don't wanna lose it. Yeah. Right. For sure. Damn right. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not making- Yeah...
• 2:00
I'm making a peasant's wage, for fuck's sake. Yeah, yep, peasants. Ah. Yep. Top of the- All right. [laughs] What? [laughs] Oh, geez, already? We just, I've not even, I haven't even gotten on the bike in the last week.
• 2:13
Whoa. Yeah, it's been a, kind of a grim time for riding for me for some reason. I- Sorry, it was single speed. I had to get, get to the top of the hill. Oh, there you go. Yeah. So that's, that's why. Yeah, no.
• 2:24
It's just- [laughs]... it, it, with, with trying to corral all the changing landscape at the building and whatnot, it's
• 2:31
being semi-depressed maybe 'cause of the change of seasons or, I don't know, something weird, but- Yeah, the, the lighting-... just haven't been on my bike that much...
• 2:38
the lighting situation, it, it throws a wrench at me. I'm still getting my ass used to it. Yeah, it's weird. I mean, 'cause, like, certain routes I would normally wanna take,
• 2:50
oh, n- it's not that well lit, and it's not that... And people are a little sketchy on the, behind the wheel of the motorized vehicles, and nah. Yeah. Yeah. Everybody's gotta get used to this a little bit.
• 3:02
Yeah, no, I, I- [laughs] Well, at, at least the weather's been kind of, you know, kind of easing us into it, 'cause it was 50 again today and- Yeah. Yeah. True... or, or yeah, two days ago or whatever. Yeah.
• 3:13
Before Thanksgiving. Yeah. Right before Thanksgiving. Well, Thanksgiving's coming yesterday, huh? Yeah. How was your Thanksgiving? Gobble, gobble, gobble. What'd you guys have? [laughs] Oh, there was turkey.
• 3:23
[laughs] Oh, well, I angled for the ham, which I always do, or steak, because, mm, turkey, mm. But Wendy was like, "Oh, you know what? I think I'll do a bacon-wrapped turkey." I'm like- That sounds-... "Okay, okay."
• 3:37
Yeah... I'm warming. Warm up. Warm up to that. I think I'm warming up to that idea. Speaking of warming, how about, do you have meat? Do you have any meat? You have anything? Did you bring some meat? Oh, God, yes.
• 3:44
I haven't asked to bring meat. Tony, Tony brought meat. Thank you for the reminder. We're, we're still drinking the pre-show beer right now, so- Most of it...
• 3:51
we, we'll get to the top of the hill in a little bit, but we got, we got a nice beer over there. A nice beer. [laughs] Oh, yeah, that's a, that's a hefty three-pound bag of meat or better. Yeah.
• 4:02
[laughs] We have some- Listen, listen to that meat coming out of there. There's some- Yeah, it's good stuff... black pepper jerky. Got ourselves- Oh... for the lunatics, we got some teriyaki beef jerky.
• 4:12
Teriyaki beef jerky. I like that. That's my favorite. For the people that I want to really get on the wild side, we do have the Carolina Reaper. Carolina Reaper. Oh. [laughs] And I will warn you, it is as- Yeah...
• 4:22
as absolutely frightening as it looks. It's kinda reaper-y? It is kinda reaper-y. JK, I brought back the little bit of ghost pepper- Oh, good... thinking we could finish it. Sure, sure. Sure.
• 4:31
That, that, when, yeah, I was, I had to, I had to do a little check in my own hard drive. I'm like- Yeah... "No, that was the one that was heavy. This is the one that isn't. Yeah."
• 4:41
And then I brought some Landjagers- I dropped mine on the floor... which I highly recommend. You, we, we'll finish off with a Landjager. We should hang some Landjager somewhere for future salty goodness. Oh, I still...
• 4:53
That just reminded me, I have, I have Landjager from- That was a really delicious stick... from, uh, Kettle Range hanging out in the bike, my bike room. Oh. Yeah. Well, well, I'm going right in. Just thought about that.
• 5:07
All right. Ghost. [crunching] So we've- [laughs] Oh, shit. Things are... Did you get a hot one? Yeah, look at this. Oh, yeah, he's got, oh, he's, like, on fire. I can't believe it.
• 5:22
[laughs] So, uh, some things have been going around the old, uh, area here at the, at the building. Well, in the compound, not at this building.
• 5:31
There was a soft, super soft, I don't know if that's in deference to, uh, Letterkenny or not, a super soft opening of Anamorphic Brewery. Mm. Oh, nice. Uh, yes, uh, Tuesday. A couple, two or three days ago.
• 5:45
And, uh, m- due to their opening, guess what happened here? They stole our stools. They stole our stools for their so- super soft opening. [laughs] How dare they? I had to bring back our old crappy stools.
• 5:58
Without bringing us on the stools? Right. Well, we were invited, to be fair. To be fair. Uh, however, I didn't make it over due to previous, what do you call that? Life. Obligations. There you go. Life.
• 6:13
Yeah, life, life didn't let me go over there. Life found a way. It wasn't, didn't, didn't want me to have fun on a Tuesday. Those are really hot.
• 6:22
[laughs] So I, I'm, I'm, I'm still curious about it and I, so the, but the ani- actually the anamorphic isn't why our stools were stolen.
• 6:32
Our stools were stolen because of Dino's soft opening for the Packer game on Sunday. Oh. Oh. Not super soft opening. That's a, just a soft opening over there. But one of our- What Dino's? The Dino's.
• 6:45
[clicks tongue] Soft opening for the Packer game on Sunday. I did not know. Well, [clicks tongue] now you do, and it means it's n- it's one of our, well, one of our favorite places in the neighborhood here,
• 6:57
and it's coming back. I'm, I'm getting excited already. It's not gonna be called Dino's though. I don't know that it's not gonna be called Dino's. I don't believe it's gonna be called Dino's.
• 7:05
Well, why wouldn't they call it Dino's? The s- the, the sign from Dino's is right upstairs. Wow. Here in this building. Nice. They can just re-hang it. Right.
• 7:14
I stopped and, uh, had lunch at The Brick and Sarah Jo was there, and I said, "Did you go to the, did you go to the soft opening?" "I didn't wanna drive 45 minutes from-" Yeah, that's a fuss...
• 7:23
all the way to go to see a Packer game." I'm like, "Huh, you're getting old." [laughs] All right. Yeah.
• 7:31
Just gonna change this up real quickly, but if you're thinking one second about getting the Carolina Reaper at Held's- I think I- I really think you tw- I think you should twice.
• 7:39
[laughs] You- Beer isn't even good enough to wash. You need a piece of bread. I, yeah, I'd like a little glass of milk or maybe some cheese curds. Oh, a little milk. I forgot all the cheese curds.
• 7:48
Yeah, that'll take- That would've been perfect... that'll take it down a little bit. Whoa. So I, I know that everybody this time of year since actually Black Friday is today- Yeah...
• 7:57
is getting all of the offers in their inbox, and I get a disproportionate amount of cycling-oriented inbox fodder. Maybe you shop too much. Do I? Maybe. Do I? Do I? No.
• 8:12
Well, I'm not gonna go through the year of not buying anything new. [laughs] Okay? I'm not gonna do that. Tony, d- when did you do that? 2013. Yeah. Well- The whole year... and did you make it through the whole year?
• 8:21
Yes, I did. Well, I could, I could live out of what I own and not buy anything new, but then I couldn't get a new iPad. There you go. Or, you know, I'd have to suffer with the old one for another year. Yeah.
• 8:32
Oh, how, how could that possibly happen? I'm a, I'm a tech sucker. Um, so but I- I was just alerted to, uh, the Wize access to- Oh, yeah...
• 8:43
their Black Friday- Well, and if anybody is not familiar with Wize, not cycling, except they do have a watch which might work with a bike. I'm not sure. Think about checking them out, actually. Yeah.
• 8:50
I always say I don't wanna wear a watch again, but. Yeah. My mom's in the market, and she's already sniffing around the $300 Fitbits. Listen- And I'm like, "I don't know about that.
• 9:00
I don't even-" Why isn't someone make an, an ankle device? "This might just be what you need." Or a device I can put somewhere else. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. You want an ankle device- No. No...
• 9:06
for the, for the- Not that kind of ankle device... DUI reason. [laughs] But you know what I mean? [laughs] Shit, man. Yeah, I suppose they do make them. How come I can't get one for- Yeah, they-... for civilian use?
• 9:12
Let me guess, that they probably have a speedometer on that. I'm guessing it does. You know? It's not just a one-trick pony. It's- Yeah. I was just looking for like- [laughs]...
• 9:20
if, if you saw something that was like, oh, that is a fantastic cycling-oriented- Oh... Black Friday deal like Showers Pass had an extra something off, but it was- They had an extra 5%... right, but still. Eh.
• 9:31
Did you happen to see, speaking of getting your email inundated with interesting things, did you happen to see the new Paragon,
• 9:39
uh, stem adapter that they're making with dual water bottle mounts to it so you can add ac- accessories to your stem? Negative. It is- That sounds like an interesting thing.
• 9:49
[laughs] It's a pretty badass looking piece of Frankenstein. You gotta check it out. It's like 50 bucks. It's- That's a good gift giving, too. Yeah.
• 9:55
'Cause cycle- cyclists in general are hard people to buy stuff for- Right... 'cause they always buy their own crap. Buy it themselves. Yeah.
• 10:01
It's like, "Well, I need a rain jacket today, so I'm gonna buy it 'cause it's raining out." Right. Yeah, this is cool. "I need some new tires 'cause they wore 'em out," you know?
• 10:07
[laughs] This is a cool, cool looking little contraption. I could see it being useful. I've always gone with, like, the flask holder as something- Yeah...
• 10:13
that if you don't have a flask holder, you probably ought to have one. Yeah. They also come out a, with the updated, uh, sliding dropper, sliding rear drops. Oh, nice. Yeah. So check those out. Oh.
• 10:24
Welcome to the show folks. They updated something that was working just fine? Okay. Right. You know, if it ain't broke. Hey, I'm gonna... pushing the button over here. [gasps] Pushing the button right now. Button.
• 10:30
Hey, um, welcome to the radio program. Caller, who do we have on the line? Hello. It's Pink Saxxy. Oh, here- How are you?... he is to save the day. How was your Thanksgiving, man?
• 10:42
[laughs] Um, well, I haven't had a Thanksgiving yet. It's tomorrow. Well, it was yes- Um- It was yesterday as far as the show's concerned. [laughs] Well, some people, but I, um- But some people are doing it on Thursday.
• 10:52
They're doing it Saturday, so that makes sense.
• 10:55
Don't, don't let me forget, I have a serious question to ask y'all, but I wanted to tell you real quick that I was in Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas for the anniversary of JFK's assassination. Nice. Whoa. Oh, wow.
• 11:11
I was, I was right there, um, and it was a big crowd. There was a lot of people around. Yeah.
• 11:16
There was a lot of people on Grassy Knoll, and they have the, they have the X's in the streets where the three shots were fired and all that. It was pretty, it was pretty cool- Wow. Wow... to be there on the anniversary.
• 11:27
Yeah. But wasn't there a bunch of Q-tards kinda floating in the breeze there, too?
• 11:32
Yeah, there was, there, there was some, there was some Trumpers, uh, making some noise, and there was, uh, you know, there, there was, uh, there was a lot of political bullshit going on there. Wow.
• 11:42
But I, I kind of turned a blind eye, blind eye to that. Sure. I mean, just the- Unfortunately-...
• 11:47
what they were talking about, [laughs] the reason behind them being there was just crazy as a bag of cats, man, [laughs] so it was kinda entertaining in its own fucked up way. Yeah.
• 11:56
Um, y- y- you know, if you, if you don't know much about the JFK assassination, you can just, uh, uh, Google it and it'll take you to YouTube, and there's a lot of different videos you can watch about it.
• 12:07
Yeah, including the Al- Um, but-... including the Oliver Stone movie. Yeah Right. And, and that was, uh, and- Sign town...
• 12:14
and, and Oliver Stone is part of the committee that meets there every, every anniversary of the shooting. Wow. And they go up into the sixth floor Book Depository Museum.
• 12:26
They have their little meeting about- Illuminati... who's uncovered what since when, and blah, blah. I, uh, hey, you know what?
• 12:35
I don't know what happened there, but at the same time, I was there for the 58th anniversary of the shooting. Cool. Right on. Yeah. I've been meaning to want to get down there.
• 12:44
But there were so many people, there were so many people around, I really couldn't get, I couldn't get really choice bits of Heather in, in, you know, in areas. So whatever, I, I, I did what I could do.
• 12:58
So what's your serious question? But no, I, I have a serious question. I'm sorry? What's your serious question? Well, okay, so my left rim is absolutely warped right now. It's, it's, it's bent, bent like a mother.
• 13:16
And, but I'm not missing any spokes. Um, usually when I have a bent rim, that means I'm missing spokes, and I'm not missing any spokes.
• 13:28
I have a spoke wrench, and I, and I, and, and I, uh, I mean, I, I really don't know what I'm doing as far as truing wheels goes, but, but what gives? I mean, usually I lose spokes and then the rim bends. Yeah.
• 13:43
Uh, is it, did you check them all to make sure one isn't really broken, but just looks like it's still there, a... That would be a- Right... kind of the place to start.
• 13:52
Well, some of them are, some of them are kinda loose, but- Yeah, that, well, looseness is what you'll get, you know. Those, it depends on which direction it's warped.
• 13:59
Are you gonna tighten one side or loosen the other side? But those wheels have been ridden- Right... hard and put away wet for an awful long time. [laughs] Yeah. So, you know, it, it cer- Right. Well,
• 14:10
well, okay, so, so if the wheel is spinning towards me, right? Um, if, okay, so I'm, I'm sitting with the handlebars to my back and I'm spinning the wheel towards me- Clock- uh, counterclockwise...
• 14:25
um, when I, when I get, when I get to the warp, w- what, what side do I tighten, which side would I loosen? Well, it depends on which way it's warped.
• 14:34
So if it's, if, you know, it, whatever way, if it's moving outwards, you wanna tighten the inside spoke to pull the rim back towards the spoke. Okay. Okay. Or you would loosen the spokes on the other side.
• 14:45
Sort of depends on whether they're really loose or really tight or whatever. And, you know, again, your, your rim's been through a lot, and it's had, you know, many different hands on it fixing it along the way.
• 14:56
And at some point- Yeah... you're probably just gonna wanna build a real good wheel. And I've got wheels with 10,000 miles on them that haven't been trued because they were built right in the first place. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
• 15:08
So it's, it, it's just hard to take a machine- I mean- I mean, those are machine-built wheels that you have on there, and they're never gonna be as- Yeah...
• 15:15
they're not gonna have the longevity of a good hand-built wheel. Well, the, the thing, the thing is it doesn't have to be perfect, but it's, uh, it's quite, it's quite, uh, bent in the rim at the moment.
• 15:26
Um- So are you still in Dallas right now? It really, uh... Huh? Are you still in Dallas right now? Oh, yeah. No, we're fine. It's fine. Um, a lot of that is, it's been, it's been way more bent than that
• 15:41
before in my, in my, uh, biking career here. But I, I just, I, uh, the, the thing is is I, I'm very low on funds, and I, and I don't think I can... I don't think there's a bike guy for 50 miles until I get to Austin.
• 15:56
Um, so I wanted to see if I can monkey with it myself maybe tomorrow while I'm waiting for my laundry to dry or something like that, well, you know, and, uh, and try, try to get it a little more straight. Yeah.
• 16:10
At, at the very least- I'll just, you know, um, uh-... tighten up the ones that are really loose... if, if- Yeah. And YouTube has a lot of really- Well, if-...
• 16:15
uh, you know, just like anything, you can build a suit of armor from YouTube if you need to forge your own, you know, iron. But you can, you can find pretty- Yeah...
• 16:23
pretty basic truing things on YouTube that will teach you. And it's a lot easier to look at it and do it when you're visualizing it than trying to explain it on, on- Yeah... audio. But, uh, I don't know.
• 16:35
Are you, so are you in Austin right now? No, I'm, I'm, I'm south of Dallas. I'm Waxahachie. Ah, okay. I was- Waxahachie, Texas... I was just trying to find you on Collective somewhere. [laughs] So south of Dallas.
• 16:50
Well, I'm, I'm, I'm, uh... and the next stop is Italy. Italy, Texas, is where I'm gonna spend Thanksgiving tomorrow 'cause I've always wanted to spend Thanksgiving in Italy. [laughs] Good call. Um,
• 17:03
so, so, but there, there's a, um, uh, there's a couple different restaurants, and as far as I saw online that they're, they're offering up a turkey dinner. I'm gonna, I'm gonna go take advantage of that.
• 17:16
But yeah, but then Austin, Austin's next, and, uh- Did you just step on a frog [laughs] or a duck? [laughs] I'm sorry? Did you, did you just step on a duck? Oh, oh, did you hear that? Yeah. [laughs] Yes.
• 17:28
I, I didn't think, I didn't think y'all heard that. [laughs] I, I was just letting loose, 'cause, 'cause I'm, I'm in, I'm in like a, a little bank parking lot, and I'm like, "Who gives a shit? It's Thanksgiving.
• 17:39
Nobody's gonna hear that." [laughs] Whoops. [laughs] Cool. Well, I guess that, that part was for River West saying, "Hey, you wanna ride bikes and make out?" [laughs] I just talked to her today actually.
• 17:58
I, I, I got- Little Annie... I got, I'm, I'm looking at the sticker right now on my crossbar. Mm-hmm. I love that sticker. People have commented on it very many times. Huh. Nice.
• 18:10
So the city of, uh, Italy, Texas- Anyway, uh-... has a population of 1,863 souls right now 1863 what? People's in Italy, Texas Oh, yeah. No, yeah.
• 18:25
Um, no, Italy, Italy is a, a, a, a, a big small town. Cool. Sounds like a fun place to spend Thanksgiving So I'm, I'm, I'm just gonna... I'm, I'm just gonna be like, "Here I am in Italy, Texas."
• 18:37
I've been to Nevada, Iowa. [laughs] I've been to Nevada, Missouri. I've been to Las Vegas, New Mexico. I've been... You know, I've been to lots of places like that. I'm gonna be in Italy for Thanksgiving.
• 18:50
It's gonna be awesome. Well, here in Wisconsin in the spring, they have what they call the Spring Classics like they would do over in Europe, and we have all these towns here that are like Belgium and, I don't know.
• 19:02
Yeah. There's a, there's a bunch of them that would normally be the one-day classics in, in Europe for road racing, but we have them here. So there's a, there's rides, they, they call them the Spring Classics.
• 19:13
They're not races, they're just rides, but it's still cool that we have all these- Right... towns called names from overseas der hey. There, there's a, there's a town in Minnesota called, uh, called New Germany, right?
• 19:28
And, uh, there's a, there's a sign in that town, I can't remember exactly what it says, but during World War I, the name of the town was changed to something, was changed to something.
• 19:40
And then after World War I, it became New Germany. And then in World War II, they w- they were trying to change it again, but then World War II ended, so they just kept it New Germany. Hmm. Very interesting.
• 19:54
You get a lot of little nuggets of knowledge when you ride your bike across the country. Yeah. And, and when, when you see those, those brown signs that say historical marker- You stop and read them...
• 20:06
what, uh, point five miles away, stop over and read them, man, 'cause, 'cause you'll learn a lot- Mm-hmm... across the country. Yeah, absolutely. Those are some of the best, uh, quick stops, you know.
• 20:17
Instead of going to, you know, Yellowstone or something. Right I, I like doing the smaller stuff. Or yeah, or like, or like a, a freeway off-ramp where there's a, there's a gas station and a subway.
• 20:30
Oh, yeah, I've, I've been to Interlocken, Pennsylvania. Nice. I've been to Interlocken, Switzerland. No, no you haven't. No, you haven't. You've been on a freeway off-ramp. [laughs] You know, it, it's...
• 20:44
That's why I, I love these little small towns. Like, the one I'm in, like Waxahachie, I, I had Whataburger this morning. The wind was coming out of the south about like 30 miles per hour, so I wasn't going anywhere,
• 20:56
so I just made a day in Waxahachie. And I can't say it enough, but I'll say it one more time. [laughs] Waxahachie. Waxahachie. Waxahachie. So when do you, when do you figure on getting back to N'awlins?
• 21:08
Are you three weeks out, or what's your- Um, I'm, I'm shoot- I'm shooting for Christmas. I'm, um...
• 21:15
Now, now I have a, a, a friend of mine came out of the woodwork and, uh, wants me to visit her in northwest, northwest of Houston, so I've gotta, uh, I've gotta, um, uh, change my route a little bit, 'cause I was gonna go south of Houston into Galveston, which is another ferry boat ride from island to island.
• 21:36
But, um, she's northwest of Houston, so I'm gonna go visit her. We go way back, and I'm, I'm... She just all of a sudden messaged me out of nowhere. She's like, "Hey, you're in Texas? You gotta come visit me."
• 21:47
I'm like, "Okay." There you go. Well, I'll take, I'll, I'll take a friend wanting me to visit her over going somewhere nobody knows me any day. All right. Yep. So I...
• 21:58
It's still gonna be right around Christmas when I get to NOLA. All right. Well, rest up, s- uh, stay safe, uh, and watch some videos about truing that wheel up. I... It's, it's not as difficult as- Yeah...
• 22:10
you think to get it at least serviceable. Or rideable. Yeah. You know, it's more difficult to get it- Right...
• 22:15
without a truing stand and a little bit of knowledge to get it perfect, but you're gonna at least be able to make it so it doesn't fold under you.
• 22:22
I'll tell you what, I, I, I got her trued up, I got her trued up in, uh, Kansas City, and not a single black spoke broke the whole time. Very good. [laughs] So there. But it, it, it was River West 24.
• 22:37
I don't know if you remember it or not. Oh, I remember. Yep. You might have heard of black spokes. Yep. I'm like, w- what the fuck do I care what color the fucking spokes are?
• 22:45
Al, Al's a good wheel builder, so he'd, he'd had it tucked up good when you left, so. Yep. And then, and then I got, I got her, uh, I got her redone in Kansas City.
• 22:55

And his whole thing is that he's fighting it, and he's really trying to get awareness for how firefighters have a higher incidence of cancer than most other, uh- Occupations, yeah... professions or occupations, yeah.
• 28:25
  And nobody really knows why.
• 28:26
I mean, sure, you go into a burning building and it's asbestos, and, you know, you can probably- There's a lot of- You can probably, you know, kinda suppose what might be happening, but- The forever chemicals they use in-...

• 30:38
Well, it's funny, 'cause he's all upset about it, and the first thing Cleone said is, "Guy's look cool with a scar on their face." [laughs] Right. So I'm like- Right... "See, tell him that." Yeah. I don't know.
