Transcript
- This is the New Realm Compliance Brief, Volume One, Edition Eighty Two, for Tuesday, November Third. Our top story: Massachusetts voters decide today whether to end retail cannabis sales. Question Eight would repeal the laws that allow regulated commercial sales of recreational marijuana and home cultivation, while leaving possession and the medical program in place. On Monday, the National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers endorsed the No on Eight campaign, and more than fifty current and former law enforcement officials signed a letter saying repeal would not eliminate demand for marijuana. Governor Maura Healey and Republican challenger Mike Minogue both oppose the measure. Tonight's result is the first statewide test of a legalization rollback. At the federal level, the American Medical Association sent a letter to the Food and Drug Administration about botanical drug products, including cannabis and kratom. The association said social and economic disputes should not be permitted to play a part in regulatory decisions, and it proposed that federal agencies develop a special schedule to support cannabis research, with funding and government supplied cannabis for registered researchers. Around the states, local alcohol and cannabis questions fill today's ballots. In Tennessee, Meigs County decides whether to allow liquor sales at restaurants and in package stores. In Oregon, voters in a quarter of counties have measures to tax or ban marijuana or psilocybin sales. And in New Hampshire, the candidates for governor clashed over legalization in their final debate, with Governor Kelly Ayotte opposed and challenger Cinde Warmington in favor of a regulated and taxed market. On the radar: November twelfth, when a federal definition change covering synthetic cannabinoids takes effect and Illinois moves hemp T H C products to licensed cannabis retailers. December eleventh, the new federal limit of zero point four milligrams of T H C per container. And December seventh, the comment deadline on sixteen T T B record keeping items.
