- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gotten Hallmark, a Hamewark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:18Speaker 1: On today's episode, we're discussing Romance at Hope Ranch, which
- 0:22Speaker 1: originally premiered on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, February twenty eighth,
- 0:26Speaker 1: And if you want to watch it now, check it
- 0:28Speaker 1: out on Hallmark Plus.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah, Megan just told me. Apparently they're running like crazy
- 0:33Speaker 2: promos over on Hallmark Plus, so get y'all discount on.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, check their Instagram because they seem to have consistently
- 0:41Speaker 1: been running a fifty percent off promo. So grab one
- 0:44Speaker 1: of those with whatever the current code is over on
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Hallmark Plus Instagram.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I wonder if that's for new subscribers only, Like, should
- 0:54Speaker 2: I see what I'm paying and see if oh discounted? Ray,
- 0:57Speaker 2: I don't even know. I think I'm probably painting like
- 0:59Speaker 2: seven nine month or something like that.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I am too.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So can I get a four ninety nine deal?
- 1:07Speaker 1: I mean you could change your email address?
- 1:10Speaker 2: I could, I guess, Yeah, I guess I could.
- 1:13Speaker 1: But speaking of Instagram, we're on Instagram of course where
- 1:17Speaker 1: girls go on Hallmark. The late breaking Hallmark News just
- 1:20Speaker 1: dropped Lazy Shaber will be starring in a six episode
- 1:25Speaker 1: limited book adaptation series exclusively on Hallmarks Plus. Speaking of
- 1:30Speaker 1: based on the novel Paris is always a good idea
- 1:34Speaker 1: alongside Scott Michael Foster, which, btw, back in the day,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I was a big fan of the show Greek.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like tall and blonde, right, he's.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Tall and blonde. Yeah, kind of a douf in Greek,
- 1:45Speaker 1: like that's kind of his thing.
- 1:47Speaker 2: But but he's been in a ton of other Hallmark things, right,
- 1:51Speaker 2: I can't remember Return for the Office. Was he in Return?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Oh my gosh? What what a pole? What girl?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Sometimes I have it and sometimes I don't. Today seems
- 2:02Speaker 2: to be the day.
- 2:03Speaker 1: He was in Return to Office. I'm not sure that
- 2:06Speaker 1: he's been at anything else on Hallmark other than that,
- 2:09Speaker 1: but he was great that he's.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Been on Hallmark before refore that, I think, So.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Okay, I'll trust you. I have no idea.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I hope people are screaming at us right now, like, hey, dummies,
- 2:21Speaker 2: he was in when Calls the Heart.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I know he wasn't, but you know, yeah, that could
- 2:27Speaker 1: not be more opposite that dude's personality. Yeah, he was
- 2:30Speaker 1: in Love for Real from twenty twenty one. Well, that
- 2:34Speaker 1: reality dating show, remember that I liked it?
- 2:36Speaker 2: I do? I do? All right, before we jump in,
- 2:41Speaker 2: I have a question for you. So it's interesting that
- 2:45Speaker 2: Hallmark Plus is putting out these limited series. I'm sure
- 2:49Speaker 2: they'll make it to Hallmark Channel eventually, but I can't
- 2:54Speaker 2: help but think about the twelve I can't even remember
- 2:57Speaker 2: the name of it, The Twelve Dates of Christmas, the
- 3:00Speaker 2: the show we really like during account on the Christmas. Yes,
- 3:05Speaker 2: I'm praying the quality of this Lacy should Bear project
- 3:11Speaker 2: is like that.
- 3:13Speaker 1: That's that's my hope as well. That's my hope as.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well, praying. And I hope I hope it leans comedy
- 3:20Speaker 2: because I think Lacey does comedy so well. And I
- 3:24Speaker 2: wonder where they're gonna be shooting this. Are they shooting
- 3:27Speaker 2: it on location? I mean, she just wrapped that Disney
- 3:30Speaker 2: movie and now she's off to somewhere else. Kind of
- 3:33Speaker 2: crazy beautiful her. I'm guessing though, her reality TV show
- 3:39Speaker 2: is probably not making it come back.
- 3:41Speaker 1: They haven't made an official announcement, but they did announce
- 3:43Speaker 1: that they're leaning away from unscripted programming. So this I'm
- 3:48Speaker 1: sure this was a don't worry, Lacey, we got you
- 3:50Speaker 1: covered and working out your reality show. But here, how
- 3:55Speaker 1: about this limited Hallmark LUs exclusive?
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah? Serious? All right? Are you ready to talk a
- 4:00Speaker 2: Romance at Hope Ranch?
- 4:01Speaker 1: Oh? Boy? I am? Oh no.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Hope Morgan sets out to begin a new chapter of
- 4:07Speaker 2: her life, fulfilling her childhood dream of running a ranch
- 4:11Speaker 2: in the picturesque town of Rodoso, New Mexico, and reviving
- 4:15Speaker 2: the beloved Giddyup Gala.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Drink every single time they say giddy Up Gala totally.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And now if I can't just just the spoiler, just
- 4:26Speaker 2: the spoiler, the spoiler of your thoughts on this movie,
- 4:29Speaker 2: hear me out. I texted Megan early while watching this, huh,
- 4:33Speaker 2: and I was like, I don't hate it, but wow
- 4:37Speaker 2: did things go sideways?
- 4:38Speaker 1: Oh?
- 4:38Speaker 2: No, okay, I'm a lot of good things to talk
- 4:42Speaker 2: about and a lot of like questionable things to talk about.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Tren't wait to get into it, okay. Taylor Brion directed
- 4:48Speaker 1: Romance at Hope Ranch. This is her first Homewark project,
- 4:51Speaker 1: but her twenty fourth directing credit overall, and she's no
- 4:54Speaker 1: stranger to the director's Chair with titles like can You
- 4:56Speaker 1: Feel the Beat That Lisa Lisa Story and Tempted by
- 4:59Speaker 1: Love Terry McMillan presentation among her credits. We're excited to
- 5:03Speaker 1: see what a fresh voice brings to the Hallmark world.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Lisa Lisa hold On, I just I'm like my and
- 5:12Speaker 2: the yeah is like a file? What is it call
- 5:18Speaker 2: a file?
- 5:19Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 5:19Speaker 2: I'm like where where do I know that?
- 5:20Speaker 1: From?
- 5:21Speaker 2: Where do I know that from? Yeah? Totally Lisa Lisa
- 5:24Speaker 2: and cult jam is that what it was called?
- 5:26Speaker 1: I think so I couldn't sell I couldn't name their song,
- 5:32Speaker 1: could you No?
- 5:33Speaker 2: But I think we're gonna need listener Wayne to check
- 5:35Speaker 2: in because I bet Wayne knows. Oh. Juliana Wimbles wrote
- 5:39Speaker 2: the screenplay. This is Juliana's tenth writing project, and Hamewark
- 5:43Speaker 2: fans will recognize her work from Love on the Amazon
- 5:47Speaker 2: earlier this year. She's also got a hand in Swanston
- 5:50Speaker 2: movie coming out UH in the next few weeks. Clearly,
- 5:53Speaker 2: she is having quite the year, both written and on camera.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Correct she is not the writer on the next Hannah
- 6:00Speaker 1: Swinson movie. Tunin tomorrow for our March First Impressions episode,
- 6:03Speaker 1: where we'll talk more about that. Hope Morgan is played
- 6:06Speaker 1: by Alison Sweeney, who also serves as executive producer on
- 6:10Speaker 1: this project. Ali appeared in four Hallmark projects in twenty
- 6:14Speaker 1: twenty five, the two Barcelona movies, as well as two
- 6:17Speaker 1: installments of Hannah Swinson mysteries.
- 6:19Speaker 2: She stays busy. You know, I like those Barcelona movies
- 6:23Speaker 2: a lot, we do. I really like those. I like
- 6:27Speaker 2: that like female energy, like you know.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Gabriel Hogan plays Jack Hope's X who shows up on
- 6:34Speaker 2: the ranch ready to make a case for a second chance.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Hallmark fans know Gabriel best as Norman Rhodes in Hannah Swinson,
- 6:42Speaker 2: but he's also been keeping busy on The Lincoln Lawyer
- 6:45Speaker 2: and Heartland. And we'll be joining the cast of the
- 6:48Speaker 2: Way Home for season four. You know I'm reading this.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Can you hear the excitement in my voice? I did
- 6:53Speaker 2: not know he was joining the cast.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Did I make the Way? Oh?
- 6:58Speaker 2: I don't know?
- 6:59Speaker 1: Did you? Oh? Him and Dan Janott Real Hogan and
- 7:03Speaker 1: Dan Janott. Yes?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Megan Sweeney plays Maggie Morgan, Hope's college bound daughter. Yes,
- 7:09Speaker 1: that is Allie Sweeney's real life daughter making her acting
- 7:13Speaker 1: debut here. Meghan was sixteen when they filmed this coincidentally,
- 7:16Speaker 1: the same age Allison was when she first landed the
- 7:19Speaker 1: role of Sammy on Days of Our Lives.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Scott Martin play's neighbor Tom Grayson. Scott is an occasional
- 7:26Speaker 2: actor with nine previous acting credits and a strong background
- 7:30Speaker 2: in producing that this appears to be his first Hallmark
- 7:33Speaker 2: project in any capacity.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Stephanie Baran plays Lorie Bennett. This is Stephanie's thirteenth acting
- 7:40Speaker 1: project and her first for Hallmark.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Her last was.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Exit Protocol in twenty twenty five. We are going to
- 7:46Speaker 1: take a quick break, take a fish oil, and come
- 7:48Speaker 1: right back with our first impressions. Hey, what was your
- 8:01Speaker 1: first impression of Romance at Hope Branch?
- 8:04Speaker 2: I thought I was watching Hallmark, but ten minutes in
- 8:06Speaker 2: I was checking to see if Keith Morrison was about.
- 8:09Speaker 1: To narrate what.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, do you have the same first impression?
- 8:15Speaker 1: No?
- 8:17Speaker 2: Am I watching Dateline? What is happening here?
- 8:21Speaker 1: You know Keith Morrison and I used to take our
- 8:23Speaker 1: dogs to the same trainer.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Well, let's talk about Keith Morrison for just a second.
- 8:27Speaker 2: He's an Orange County local. By the way, he is
- 8:29Speaker 2: an Orange County local. I just saw a TikTok. If
- 8:32Speaker 2: somebody was like, yeah, you know you're a Newport Beach
- 8:35Speaker 2: and Keith Morrison is in a Bentley with the top
- 8:39Speaker 2: down driving down pach or something. I just thought, Oh,
- 8:42Speaker 2: that's Megan's from friend from dump Train.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I played it so cool. Every time we would run
- 8:48Speaker 1: into each other and our dogs would just like, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: have a little moment. I wanted to be. I just like,
- 8:56Speaker 1: just like, this is my fellow Tuesday morning training buddy.
- 9:00Speaker 2: But anyway, I would just like listen to him talk.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I would just be like, it would like just lull
- 9:06Speaker 2: me to sleep.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I think it was so funny because when he walked up,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I was like, is that who I think it is?
- 9:11Speaker 1: And then you know, as dog people do and you
- 9:14Speaker 1: like talk about your dogs only, and I was like,
- 9:16Speaker 1: that's absolutely Keith Morrison talking to me about his dog. Anyway. Yes,
- 9:21Speaker 1: he is seen out and about in the Newport Beach
- 9:23Speaker 1: area quite a bit. Yeah, my first impression is nothing
- 9:27Speaker 1: quite so dark as yours. It's o MG, get a
- 9:30Speaker 1: better lock for that gate. I am going to talk
- 9:34Speaker 1: about it. I don't know why it was.
- 9:39Speaker 2: It was one of the things that bothered me the
- 9:42Speaker 2: most about this movie me if you can believe that too,
- 9:46Speaker 2: It okay too.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Let's talk what we liked though. Let me start.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Okay, So this season of Life really hits home.
- 9:57Speaker 1: You know. I love the.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Opening stretch Hope dropping off her daughter at college and
- 10:02Speaker 2: then she's like driving to her own fresh start and
- 10:04Speaker 2: she's like really excited. Like that hit hard for me.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I see, are you in the same season of life?
- 10:13Speaker 2: I was excited for Hope stepping into this next chapter.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Kind of crazy that she would be navigating like this transition,
- 10:26Speaker 2: like I've just dropped my kid off at college and
- 10:28Speaker 2: now I'm going to start a whole new life for myself.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Like that's a lot to take in, but I was
- 10:34Speaker 2: fully on board. This is when I texted you and
- 10:37Speaker 2: I was like, I'm into this. I'm into this.
- 10:40Speaker 1: You know that storyline resonated with me too and for you,
- 10:44Speaker 1: like you are sending your one and only child to college,
- 10:47Speaker 1: so like we're in different phases of life, like I
- 10:49Speaker 1: have one and one at home. But I did like
- 10:53Speaker 1: that story, and I especially liked the reality of the
- 10:56Speaker 1: way they handle her transition to college and her general
- 10:59Speaker 1: feeling of feeling overwhelmed and maybe in over her head,
- 11:03Speaker 1: and then the parallel feeling that Hope had of helplessness
- 11:07Speaker 1: on the other end of line, She's like, what can
- 11:09Speaker 1: I do? And that's so familiar to me. And I
- 11:12Speaker 1: assume you, as a parent, were like, how can we
- 11:14Speaker 1: solve this? And really you can't, Like you can offer
- 11:16Speaker 1: advice and then you just have to sit back and wait.
- 11:19Speaker 1: And so I thought there was a lot of reality
- 11:22Speaker 1: in that moment. Agree, Speaking of our girl Alli, though
- 11:27Speaker 1: she spends a lot of time in this movie by herself,
- 11:32Speaker 1: acting by herself, you know, cruising with the wind in
- 11:36Speaker 1: her hair, wrangling chickens, decorating her new home, and I
- 11:41Speaker 1: think that's a very interesting well the movie is about
- 11:46Speaker 1: her making it on her own in theory, like she
- 11:48Speaker 1: wants to do it on her own, but I also
- 11:50Speaker 1: think it paints a picture of how much she is
- 11:53Speaker 1: carrying this movie on her back, because I thought a
- 11:57Speaker 1: lot of the characters lacked depth. We really only get
- 12:01Speaker 1: to know most of these people as they relate to Hope,
- 12:04Speaker 1: and a lot of them don't exist on their own
- 12:07Speaker 1: outside of the universe of Hope. But I feel like
- 12:11Speaker 1: we get a full clear picture of who Hope is
- 12:17Speaker 1: down to her flaws as well, and I Alie does
- 12:20Speaker 1: a really good job with that.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I agree with you. I think Alie Sweeny is always watchable.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I enjoy her as an actor. As Hope.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I was.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Struggling a little bit, like because part of me was
- 12:35Speaker 2: really excited for her, and then other parts of me
- 12:38Speaker 2: I was like, you are over your head here and
- 12:40Speaker 2: you need to ask, Oh, for sure that's going to
- 12:43Speaker 2: be I'll talk of a little bit about more about
- 12:46Speaker 2: that in my wishes. But I thought she was completely watchable.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And also Allie as Hope made me believe that she
- 12:55Speaker 2: could run this ranch, even though I think the script
- 12:59Speaker 2: was actively sabotaging her a little bit throughout. But I
- 13:06Speaker 2: was into her like boss ranch energy, yes, which is
- 13:10Speaker 2: so silly. You're right, because she was alone in so
- 13:15Speaker 2: many of these scenes, and I was like, I feel this,
- 13:17Speaker 2: like I like to be alone as well and do
- 13:21Speaker 2: like productive things like this. So I found it very
- 13:25Speaker 2: relatable and I did you know, I love I'm a
- 13:31Speaker 2: sucker for like small trump, small town traditions, legacy events
- 13:38Speaker 2: that they're trying to revive. Like I like movies like
- 13:42Speaker 2: that where they're like working towards this goal. I mean,
- 13:47Speaker 2: while I thought it was a little bit silly and
- 13:49Speaker 2: I'm going to talk way more and my wishes about it,
- 13:53Speaker 2: there is this through line, like this narrative that I
- 13:59Speaker 2: find appealing in this movie.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Oh for sure, me too. I like all of that too.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I mean, I think a lot of that storyline is
- 14:07Speaker 1: very classic Hallmark, like the small town event. Yeah, but
- 14:12Speaker 1: I'm into that small town event. I would. I love
- 14:14Speaker 1: the idea of having this thing that we all look
- 14:17Speaker 1: forward to in this tradition, and Hope had that from
- 14:20Speaker 1: her childhood and her daughter's childhood and now can be
- 14:24Speaker 1: instrumental in creating it for others. Obviously, there were some
- 14:29Speaker 1: moments along the way where she could have made some
- 14:32Speaker 1: different choices.
- 14:33Speaker 2: This is so silly, But I love the animals. Oh
- 14:36Speaker 2: me too. You know Ali chicken, the houd Okay, first
- 14:41Speaker 2: of all, Houdini hive, arise up.
- 14:43Speaker 1: This is the cute.
- 14:45Speaker 2: If I could have a freaking chicken in my backyard,
- 14:47Speaker 2: I would Why did this chicken look so different from
- 14:51Speaker 2: the other chickens? Was it a chick I don't understand
- 14:54Speaker 2: what it looked different.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's a different kind of chicken. I don't
- 14:57Speaker 1: know what kind. I just that is a yeah, it
- 15:00Speaker 1: has a name. And you know who Jen Hamilton is,
- 15:03Speaker 1: the TikToker who's a labor and delivery nurse.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Do I know who Jenlton is?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yes?
- 15:09Speaker 2: I do. I love her.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Well, she has that kind of chicken and she has
- 15:14Speaker 1: some older videos of her, like swaddling those chiens is
- 15:18Speaker 1: a whole thing. They're really funny. So that's where I
- 15:22Speaker 1: recognized that chicken from all Right, what else did you
- 15:26Speaker 1: like about this movie? That about rap?
- 15:28Speaker 2: Well? I did like New Mexico. Was this actually filmed
- 15:31Speaker 2: in New Mexico?
- 15:33Speaker 1: Question Mark Filming locations, Ruydoso, New Mexico.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Oh nice.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Well, now I need to know which one of these
- 15:41Speaker 1: men gave you dateline vibes.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Jack?
- 15:45Speaker 1: Okay, good, Okay good. I have a lot of thoughts
- 15:47Speaker 1: about Jack.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Let's talk about Jack.
- 15:53Speaker 1: So my initial feeling, and when I wrote in my
- 15:56Speaker 1: notes and perhaps I was too kind, is that I
- 15:59Speaker 1: had to work through some feelings about Jack just setting
- 16:02Speaker 1: up shop in Riudoso in order to be with Hope.
- 16:04Speaker 1: He calls it unhinged, and I was like, yeah, that's fair,
- 16:07Speaker 1: Like that's not even a stretch. I did come around
- 16:12Speaker 1: to him though, because I feel like he does prove himself.
- 16:17Speaker 1: He listens to her, he hears her when she's like,
- 16:21Speaker 1: go away. It does take him a second, but he
- 16:24Speaker 1: ultimately does listen. He's quick to apologize, and we learn
- 16:28Speaker 1: that he kept himself as a presence in Maggie's life
- 16:32Speaker 1: even when he was no longer in Hope's life. And
- 16:34Speaker 1: I think that's weird. Oh do you think it's weird?
- 16:37Speaker 2: I do?
- 16:38Speaker 1: Okay, tell me may they.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Didn't They didn't really establish how long they had been together.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Yes, the timeline of it all, like when did Maggie's
- 16:47Speaker 1: dad pass that?
- 16:50Speaker 2: I don't know, Like they didn't even there was no
- 16:52Speaker 2: context to that either.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I just I just just he's just in the military
- 16:59Speaker 1: and he's gone, right, right, And all we know is
- 17:02Speaker 1: that they haven't been together for ten years.
- 17:05Speaker 2: So Maggie was six, Yeah it is eight.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I guess, considering how old she is in the movie.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Anyway, Right, I just thought it was weird. I have
- 17:17Speaker 2: a lot of feelings. I like Gabriel Hogan a lot.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I was excited to see them paired in this movie
- 17:25Speaker 2: because he is so in the friend zone on Hannah Swinson. Yeah,
- 17:29Speaker 2: and so I liked that they were getting to explore
- 17:35Speaker 2: a different relationship in this movie. But in terms of
- 17:42Speaker 2: the character Jack one, I thought it was really weird
- 17:45Speaker 2: that he heard she was moving there, so he relocated.
- 17:50Speaker 2: He was in New York, New York City. He was
- 17:53Speaker 2: in New York, right, and they were like in Denver
- 17:57Speaker 2: or something like that, and it's just this weird. He
- 18:03Speaker 2: buys this feed store and has a photo of them up,
- 18:08Speaker 2: and it was weird.
- 18:10Speaker 1: It was red flags all around to me. Yeah, I
- 18:14Speaker 1: do agree with you. I do fully agree with you
- 18:17Speaker 1: that it would is enough to make somebody uncomfortable. Really,
- 18:22Speaker 1: you know, if she especially if she didn't share his feelings.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Now what exactly and she was like not into it
- 18:30Speaker 1: at first. You're right, like they came around. But I
- 18:35Speaker 1: think it would have been so much better if Jack
- 18:41Speaker 1: was someone brand new to her. She's in this new
- 18:44Speaker 1: season of life. She deserves something fresh, not this.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Man who like for the third time, yes of this
- 18:52Speaker 2: whole relocation timeline, no, no, no, no no. And then
- 18:56Speaker 2: I hated that she was like hesitant and scared. Excuse me,
- 19:01Speaker 2: I don't know how old Alison Sweeney is or how
- 19:03Speaker 2: this character is, but a woman of my age, Like
- 19:06Speaker 2: I kind of know what I want, and I don't
- 19:10Speaker 2: like if I'm hesitant, like we've tried, let's try this
- 19:12Speaker 2: a third time.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I'm not doing that, Like I haven't been walking around
- 19:18Speaker 1: with this like one that got away feeling right, like
- 19:20Speaker 1: this is a relationship that failed twice. And while that
- 19:23Speaker 1: may be sad, you didn't get the vibe that she
- 19:27Speaker 1: had been pining for him the way he had for her.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, And that would have freaked me out.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear you, I hear you.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it just I just thought it was weird make
- 19:41Speaker 2: these people two complete strangers, make him be the neighbor.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Well, can we talk about the neighbor?
- 19:47Speaker 2: Sure?
- 19:50Speaker 1: In the beginning, I felt like we were setting up
- 19:52Speaker 1: for a Tom Jack Hope love triangle. Absolutely Tom shows up.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I'm like, that man is falling in love with her,
- 20:00Speaker 1: like fumbling over himself, he like couldn't find the words,
- 20:03Speaker 1: so like he was so taken by her blue eyes,
- 20:05Speaker 1: you know. And then we get a little bit of
- 20:08Speaker 1: friction between Jack and Tom, and I thought, well, that's
- 20:12Speaker 1: because they're both like Tom's like, who is this interloper
- 20:15Speaker 1: coming from my new ranch? Lady neighbor? And then they
- 20:19Speaker 1: kind of just Laurie comes in and they're like, well
- 20:21Speaker 1: that's neat and tidy. We'll just give sweet rancher Tom
- 20:23Speaker 1: to my friend Laurie. Yeah, which it was cute, but
- 20:28Speaker 1: I was like, wait, I saw the eyes Tom was
- 20:31Speaker 1: giving Hope. Uh huh. I don't want Laurie to be
- 20:33Speaker 1: second choice here because she's the one who's available.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Fight for her Tom, not LORI.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Fight for I Hope, you know, come on, you know.
- 20:46Speaker 1: But he was like, oh, this is my buddy.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Now the two dudes are buddies because they like fix
- 20:52Speaker 2: some water pipe together or whatever. So now there's like
- 20:55Speaker 2: a agreement between gentlemen of like you can have Hope
- 20:58Speaker 2: and all gross take your sister Laurie.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yeah, come on, come on, come on. Okay, we talked
- 21:07Speaker 1: about the fence earlier.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Yeah, ma'am, your horses are escaping and you're off planting
- 21:15Speaker 2: your garden, Like you need to get this fence in order.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I'm like, get a freaking zip tie, get a bungee
- 21:23Speaker 2: cord something. What is going on here with this whack
- 21:28Speaker 2: job wire situation?
- 21:30Speaker 1: Yeah? Why look once, fine, like that's what's there? You think, Oh,
- 21:33Speaker 1: that must work, So we just wrap it up when
- 21:37Speaker 1: it fails multiple times and you a strong, confident, capable
- 21:42Speaker 1: woman with checklists, don't immediately get your ass to the
- 21:45Speaker 1: hardware store for a better solution after your horses have
- 21:49Speaker 1: escaped and the townspeople are talking about I was done.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I was like, stop wrapping that damn wire around the fence.
- 21:56Speaker 1: A three year old could undo it, and clearly these
- 21:59Speaker 1: several thousand pounds horses can as well.
- 22:02Speaker 2: I mean, are they jumping over the fence? I know
- 22:05Speaker 2: they weren't, but could those horses jump over that fence?
- 22:08Speaker 1: I assume not because that wasn't my issue, but.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I know nothing about horses, but pretty hard they just
- 22:16Speaker 2: are they using their teeth to like pull on that
- 22:19Speaker 2: wire or just nudge at the fence where they know
- 22:22Speaker 2: where the opening is and it could just like, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 2: stretch that wire out or whatever.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah. I was super annoyed with that, mostly because it's
- 22:32Speaker 2: this she Hope keeps telling her daughter you need to
- 22:37Speaker 2: ask for help, you can ask for help, while refusing
- 22:41Speaker 2: to ask for help herself. Like the irony was so
- 22:44Speaker 2: loud it was driving me crazy. I it really burns
- 22:52Speaker 2: my breeches when people can't ask.
- 22:53Speaker 1: For help, yespecially when you're drowning. Yes.
- 22:57Speaker 2: And the girl was drowning, you know, I know you
- 23:02Speaker 2: and I both like like a checklist. So I was
- 23:04Speaker 2: really impressed with her big board and her big checklist,
- 23:07Speaker 2: but I was like, she can't do it on her own.
- 23:13Speaker 1: No, And she was doing three huge things. She was
- 23:16Speaker 1: relocating her entire life. She was starting a ranch, which
- 23:21Speaker 1: she had never done before, and running a major town event,
- 23:24Speaker 1: and attempting to do all three of those things simultaneously
- 23:28Speaker 1: and alone. Stop it.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Well, that is my next beef, because I'm not wrong.
- 23:35Speaker 2: She is running like a bed and breakfast too. At
- 23:37Speaker 2: Oh that's right. Okay, So this is what's striving me.
- 23:42Speaker 2: This is where yeah really lost me here because she
- 23:47Speaker 2: she double books reservations, like we don't see any of
- 23:50Speaker 2: that happen, right, just.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Like her system malfunctioned? What system? Her online booking system?
- 23:59Speaker 2: How did she get that going? Okay, that's a side problem.
- 24:03Speaker 2: But she double books these reservations and it somehows like
- 24:07Speaker 2: she panics, but then it's like, really not a problem.
- 24:09Speaker 2: And here's my questions. Who's cooking, who's cleaning, who's turning
- 24:13Speaker 2: over the rooms? Who are greeting guests, who's making coffee?
- 24:15Speaker 2: This woman has zero staff at this ranch she's running.
- 24:20Speaker 1: And apparently her first guess were happening at the gidda
- 24:24Speaker 1: up gallot. You're not doing a soft opening, you're not
- 24:26Speaker 1: doing the dragonfly in. Test it with the test it
- 24:30Speaker 1: with your friends and neighbors, and make sure everything runs smoothly.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Come.
- 24:34Speaker 1: It was too much. It was absurd for her to
- 24:37Speaker 1: take on all of these things. And it's in my
- 24:39Speaker 1: digity that but we'll talk about it here. Is it
- 24:42Speaker 1: the reality, never mind all of the other things she's doing,
- 24:45Speaker 1: but is it the reality that people run a ranch solo?
- 24:48Speaker 1: Because Tom was like, it's just me, and Hope is like,
- 24:52Speaker 1: it's just me. You can run a rand with all
- 24:55Speaker 1: of those animals by yourself.
- 24:57Speaker 2: There's no there are not enough hours in the day.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Like you would work seven days a week, sun up
- 25:02Speaker 1: to sundown, between feeding and cleaning and watering and planting
- 25:08Speaker 1: her garden and exercising those horses and harvesting the eggs
- 25:12Speaker 1: and taking care of your No, no, you need help.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Now let's add a massive town wide gala on top
- 25:21Speaker 2: of it.
- 25:22Speaker 1: It was too much, too much, Just have the freaking gala.
- 25:25Speaker 2: You don't need to open Like who who edited this script?
- 25:30Speaker 2: Like did anybody look at it and go, you know,
- 25:33Speaker 2: that's a lot super realistic, like we like take out
- 25:36Speaker 2: the bed and breakfast, like the ranch and the Gala
- 25:39Speaker 2: on their own would have been overload. I understand that
- 25:41Speaker 2: we needed to have some sort of like extra piece
- 25:46Speaker 2: that made it very clear that this was all too much,
- 25:49Speaker 2: But the fact that she's also opening up this inn
- 25:52Speaker 2: at Hope Ranch was completely implausible. Totally I agree. Here's
- 25:58Speaker 2: my other beef is she invites the whole freaking town
- 26:01Speaker 2: to this free.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Why are you making it free?
- 26:07Speaker 2: You can't it's a free a bit?
- 26:13Speaker 1: How much are tickets?
- 26:14Speaker 2: It's free?
- 26:15Speaker 1: Everybody.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Come, I'm gonna pay for food and entertainment and drinks
- 26:20Speaker 2: and cocktails and decore with what money? Come on? Come on?
- 26:27Speaker 2: And then the cater let's just really dump they the
- 26:31Speaker 2: caterer kind of caterer can't close their damn refrigerator and
- 26:36Speaker 2: the food gets spoiled like you're and it's a phone call, sorry,
- 26:42Speaker 2: I don't have anything for you. That's on the caterer
- 26:44Speaker 2: to rectify in that moment. It's not a sorry like
- 26:48Speaker 2: go to the store.
- 26:49Speaker 1: And buy some new food.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Bro Well, that morning when she's like making scones to
- 26:55Speaker 2: have the code.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Guy come, oh okay, oh my god.
- 27:00Speaker 2: How many hours are in a day? I don't understand.
- 27:02Speaker 2: There's like thirty six hours in that whole branch. She's
- 27:05Speaker 2: making scones. She's doing all this stuff, and then the
- 27:09Speaker 2: caterer dumps her, and then they they can get everybody
- 27:12Speaker 2: to come to bring like something up.
- 27:14Speaker 1: They all got time to whip up a cast role
- 27:16Speaker 1: at home?
- 27:17Speaker 2: What I like? One of the ladies came and she's like,
- 27:19Speaker 2: here I brought like it's a veggie plotter. I was like,
- 27:22Speaker 2: oh good, Like get a food truck, lady, Like.
- 27:27Speaker 1: There's not a restaurant in town that you could have
- 27:30Speaker 1: called upon. Seriously, I'm like a bakery, like just go
- 27:35Speaker 1: buy everybody out, have.
- 27:37Speaker 2: It be free, a free event, but like food and
- 27:41Speaker 2: drinks for purchase. Like what is she doing? What is
- 27:44Speaker 2: she doing?
- 27:45Speaker 1: What is she doing? Yeah?
- 27:48Speaker 2: This just was like are you freaking kidding me?
- 27:51Speaker 1: That's all?
- 27:55Speaker 2: That is all?
- 27:56Speaker 1: Well, let's talk. Did you see that?
- 27:59Speaker 2: I have a question and I don't. This person came
- 28:01Speaker 2: out of nowhere. She was like the snarky town person.
- 28:04Speaker 2: She had full lashes, super booty. She brings the mac
- 28:08Speaker 2: and cheese, like saves the day. But I'm like, who's
- 28:11Speaker 2: this chick? She's just the mean girl.
- 28:14Speaker 1: And then it was so dumb, like why why?
- 28:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Eddie edite in the script would have been a
- 28:23Speaker 2: good idea. I had to look this next thing up
- 28:26Speaker 2: because I did not know what was called because I
- 28:28Speaker 2: do not wear cowboy boots. In my notes, this is
- 28:30Speaker 2: the boot take her off her contraption. It is called
- 28:33Speaker 2: a boot jack.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Have you ever seen one of those before? Because now
- 28:37Speaker 1: that you say that, I feel like I have heard
- 28:39Speaker 1: that term before.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Jack.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Did you?
- 28:42Speaker 2: Did you even catch it? Was like taking her boots
- 28:44Speaker 2: off at the front door, and I was.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Like, what is that thing that she's Oh, I saw
- 28:48Speaker 1: her take her boots off. You like hook the back
- 28:51Speaker 1: of your boot in and it holds on.
- 28:52Speaker 2: To it, Yeah, and you just slide your foot out
- 28:55Speaker 2: of it.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Now, let me ask you a question.
- 28:58Speaker 2: If I'm working on a ranch of not wearing cowboy
- 29:01Speaker 2: boots a boot that has like a little heel, I'm
- 29:03Speaker 2: not all day long. I know like cowboys and ranchers
- 29:07Speaker 2: wear boots because like I.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Think they are wearing cowboy boots.
- 29:12Speaker 2: There's no way my feet there's I'm wearing a tennis
- 29:15Speaker 2: shoe or a croc because let's be real.
- 29:18Speaker 1: But no, no, no, no, no, no no. Because you're
- 29:20Speaker 1: walking through muck, you need like a like a rain
- 29:24Speaker 1: boot at least.
- 29:25Speaker 2: But give me a hunter boot.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Them they are wearing cowboy boots and everybody says that
- 29:32Speaker 1: they're the most comfortable shoes you'll ever or look, I
- 29:35Speaker 1: have owned them, and I've never been more uncomfortable in
- 29:37Speaker 1: my entire life.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Well, you and I went to a Garth Brooks concert
- 29:40Speaker 2: which you wore, and I feel like you walked out
- 29:42Speaker 2: to the parking lot barefoot because you were like, these
- 29:44Speaker 2: boots are too much for me.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Probably probably. I bought real cowboy boots like in
- 29:52Speaker 1: Park City, Utah, and they were so damn cute, And
- 29:56Speaker 1: now my daughter has them. Because they're so uncomfortabley're miserable
- 29:59Speaker 1: to wear.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't get it. Does it just take time?
- 30:02Speaker 2: Maybe burying them in every single time? Maybe you have
- 30:04Speaker 2: to do more than wear them to a concert.
- 30:10Speaker 1: All right, funny did you see that? Are they're limited?
- 30:15Speaker 1: But look, there's a lot of personal touches in this movie.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Of course, Ali's daughter, Meghan plays her daughter, Maggie, and
- 30:24Speaker 1: that is that he's her real memorabilia in her dorm
- 30:29Speaker 1: room that they used to decorate it, her horse metals
- 30:31Speaker 1: and all of that, which is very cute and Ali's mother.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Thank you to Girls Con Homewark team member Maggie who
- 30:39Speaker 1: emailed us to let us know that Ali revealed that
- 30:40Speaker 1: her mother's name was Hope and that's where the title
- 30:43Speaker 1: of this movie and her name for her character comes from.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Okay, that's cute. Can I just add a note here, like, okay,
- 30:51Speaker 2: Alie's real life daughter, was it seamless her first acting job? No,
- 30:56Speaker 2: but you got to start somewhere, and it really helps
- 30:59Speaker 2: when your mom is Ali Sweeney. Right.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and also the article I read said she doesn't
- 31:04Speaker 1: really have aspirations to do this, that's not her goal
- 31:08Speaker 1: and knife to be an app at it. All. Right,
- 31:09Speaker 1: what did you rate this movie?
- 31:11Speaker 2: I'm actually really torn. My notes say right now two
- 31:15Speaker 2: point seventy five to three stars.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I wrote three. I wrote three.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I don't like get that Like it started out so
