- 0:00Katie: In this episode, you will discover the detailed fertility report your cycle gives you every single month and what clues you've been dismissing as normal are actually telling you about why getting and staying pregnant has been a struggle.
- 0:16Welcome to the Finally Get Pregnant Naturally podcast, the podcast helping women identify the real reasons you haven't conceived or stayed pregnant so you and your partner can finally grow the family of your dreams.
- 0:30I'm your host, Dr.
- 0:31Katie Wood.
- 0:32Let's dive in, shall we?
- 0:34Katie: So three things you'll gain from today's episode: why your cycle is one of the most informative but also overlooked fertility tools already available to you, the five monthly clues that are almost universally dismissed as normal but are direct
- 0:53Katie: signals of underlying hormonal and root cause imbalances affecting your fertility and miscarriage risk, and what each clue is actually telling you, and what to do with that information so it becomes the starting point for real answers rather than
- 1:09Katie: another thing to quietly tolerate Your cycle is a monthly report card.
- 1:18Katie: So you maybe have been tracking your cycle.
- 1:21Katie: You know when it comes, roughly how long it lasts.
- 1:25Katie: Maybe you have a decent idea of when you're ovulating.
- 1:29Katie: But there is a difference between tracking your cycle and becoming fluent in what it's actually telling you, and most of what your cycle is trying to show you has been filed under, quote-unquote, "normal" for so long that you
- 1:47Katie: stopped noticing it.
- 1:49Katie: So your cycle is produced by a very delicate cascade of hormones that have to fire in a precise sequence at certain levels and at specific times.
- 2:02Katie: And when any piece of that cascade is off, like when estrogen is not behaving as it should be, or when ovulation is not robust, when progesterone is not steady, your cycle shows you, not through obvious dysfunction, but through
- 2:21Katie: cycle clues in the things you have learned to essentially overlook or you've just been experiencing that for so long it just feels normal or like something that you have to deal with.
- 2:36Katie: Every month, your body is handing you a report card.
- 2:41Katie: You just haven't really been taught how to read it.
- 2:45Katie: But in this episode, that is going to change for you.
- 2:47Katie: So let's go over the five clues worth paying attention to.
- 2:52Katie: So clue number one, your period itself A healthy period should be a moderate flow lasting four to five days, bright to medium red in color, with minimal to no clotting and cramping.
- 3:10Katie: What you have probably normalized is a period that is very light or very heavy, brown spotting at the start or end, significant clotting or cramps that require medication just to get through the day.
- 3:25Katie: Light periods with light pink or brown blood can signal low estrogen and a slow uterine shedding.
- 3:35Katie: Heavy periods with clotting can indicate estrogen dominance or thyroid involvement.
- 3:42Katie: Significant cramping can point to inflammation, endometriosis, or prostaglandin imbalance.
- 3:48Katie: And none of these are just how periods are.
- 3:52Katie: All of these are information, though.
- 3:55Katie: Clue number two, pre-period spotting.
- 3:58Katie: Now this is a really, really common one.
- 4:01Katie: If you spot for more than one day before your period starts, that is almost always a progesterone signal.
- 4:09Katie: Progesterone is the hormone that helps hold the uterine lining, and when it drops too soon or the levels are too low in the luteal phase, the lining begins to shed early.
- 4:21Katie: And if you're also experiencing early losses or difficulty with implantation, this is directly relevant.
- 4:29Katie: Pre-period spotting is not random.
- 4:31Katie: It is your luteal phase showing you where it is struggling.
- 4:36Katie: Clue number three, cervical mucus patterns.
- 4:40Katie: A healthy fertile window should produce clear, stretchy, egg white consistency mucus for several days around ovulation.
- 4:50Katie: If you're not seeing this, if your mucus is minimal or absent or never reaches that egg white consistency, that is a signal about your estrogen levels, your hydration, your cervical health, or vaginal microbiome.
- 5:07Katie: Sperm need that egg white cervical mucus to help survive the journey.
- 5:15Katie: Without it, the fertile window narrows down significantly even when ovulation is technically happening Clue number four, PMS symptoms.
- 5:26Katie: So this could look like mood changes, anxiety Irritability, bloating, breast tenderness, and brain fog in the week before your period.
- 5:37Katie: They are symptoms of a luteal phase hormonal imbalance.
- 5:40Katie: Typically, it's low progesterone relative to estrogen, poor estrogen clearance, or elevated cortisol disrupting the progesterone to estrogen ratio.
- 5:51Katie: And the severity of your PMS is essentially a read on the hormonal environment of the second half of your cycle, which is the exact environment a fertilized egg is trying to implant to, right?
- 6:06Katie: If that environment is symptomatic for you, that is definitely worth understanding why and what is going on.
- 6:14Katie: Clue number five: cycle length and luteal phase length.
- 6:19Katie: A healthy cycle runs between 25 and 35 days with a luteal phase of at least 11 to 12 days.
- 6:27Katie: If your cycle is shorter than 25 days, your luteal phase may not be giving an embryo enough time for a healthy implantation before progesterone drops.
- 6:38Katie: If your cycle is longer than 35 days or irregular, ovulation may not be occurring consistently.
- 6:46Katie: Either pattern narrows your conception window and raises the biological risk of an early loss.
- 6:53Katie: Your cycle length is not just a scheduling detail.
- 6:57Katie: It is a functional fertility metric.
- 7:01Katie: So if you are listening to this episode and you're just resonating with one or maybe all or a few of these cycle clues, I need you to hear this.
- 7:16Katie: I know so far you feel like you've done everything right.
- 7:20Katie: You eat clean, you track your cycle, you've asked all the right questions, done everything your doctor has recommended, and still you're not pregnant, or you struggle to stay pregnant and no one has been able to tell you why.
- 7:36Katie: So you keep going.
- 7:37Katie: Another cycle, another supplement, another expert, another month of piecing it together alone, hoping that every new strategy will be the thing that finally works.
- 7:50Katie: And the hardest part isn't the effort.
- 7:53Katie: You've never been afraid of effort.
- 7:55Katie: It's that for the first time, effort isn't enough, and no one will actually look deeper to tell you what's really going on.
- 8:04Katie: You're not missing something obvious.
- 8:07Katie: It's just what you've been offered so far by your doctor is completely missing the mark.
- 8:13Katie: That's exactly why I built Decode Your Fertility, the exact root cause fertility testing framework I use with my private clients.

- 9:24Katie: The five clues worth reading are your period color, flow, clot and cramping pattern, pre-period spotting, cervical mucus quality around ovulation, the severity of your PMS symptoms, and your cycle and luteal phase length.
- 9:42Katie: None of these symptoms, none of these are random.
- 9:46Katie: All of them are functional data.
- 9:49Katie: And when you start reading them, instead of normalizing them, they become the starting point for understanding why getting or staying pregnant is taking longer than it should and what your body actually needs to change that.
