- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo! I'm Lucas, and as always, Luna is here with me. Luna: Hey hey! I'm ready to learn some more Malay. What are we diving into today? Lucas: Today we're going to a hawker stall to order one of Malaysia's most beloved dishes: nasi goreng, or fried rice. Luna: Oh, I love nasi goreng! That's such a good one. I always see it on menus but never know how to order it properly. Lucas: Well, you're in luck. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Malay, you can keep these lessons ad-free by supporting us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a small way to keep the show going. Luna: Yeah, totally. It's because of listeners like you that we can keep doing this. Now, let's get to that nasi goreng! Lucas: So, the most basic phrase to start with is: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng.' Say it with me: Saya mahu nasi goreng. Luna: Saya mahu nasi goreng. That means 'I want fried rice,' right? Lucas: Exactly. You've got it. Now, at the stall, they might ask: 'Nasi goreng ayam atau nasi goreng seafood?' That means 'Fried rice with chicken or fried rice with seafood?' Luna: Oh, so they give you options. So if I want chicken, I'd say: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam.' Lucas: Perfect. 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam.' Let's break it down: 'ayam' means chicken. So you're saying 'I want chicken fried rice.' Luna: Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam. Got it. What if I want to ask if they have egg in it? Fried rice often has egg. Lucas: Great question! You can ask: 'Ada telur?' which means 'Is there egg?' or 'Do you have egg?' Luna: Ada telur? That's short and sweet. I can remember that. Lucas: And if you want some chili sauce on the side, you can say: 'Boleh minta sos cili?' That means 'Can I ask for chili sauce?' Luna: Boleh minta sos cili? I love chili sauce, so that's useful. And finally, how do I ask for the price? Lucas: You can ask: 'Berapa harga satu pinggan?' which means 'How much for one plate?' Luna: Berapa harga satu pinggan? Okay, let me try putting it all together. So I walk up and say: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam. Ada telur? Boleh minta sos cili? Berapa harga satu pinggan?' Lucas: That's fantastic! You sound like a pro already. Let's repeat those key phrases one more time: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam.' Luna: Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam. Lucas: 'Ada telur?' Luna: Ada telur? Lucas: 'Boleh minta sos cili?' Luna: Boleh minta sos cili? Lucas: And 'Berapa harga satu pinggan?' Luna: Berapa harga satu pinggan? Lucas: Excellent. Now you're ready to order nasi goreng like a local. Practice these phrases, and next time you're at a hawker stall, give them a try. Luna: Thanks, Lucas! I can't wait to use these. Until next time, selamat tinggal! Lucas: Selamat tinggal! Keep practicing with Fexingo.
