- Ranch Wives: But then this year I was bailing and I was listening to the book, the audiobook for our book club next week. Yeah. I'm not kidding you. There was like this really intense part that I, I'm not joking, I missed the row. I was like, my gosh, and I I'm not straight I have missed like it wasn't far, it was probably like ten feet. I've missed the swath you want to open us? Yeah, okay. All right. we are missing somebody. so I think for the next This week and probably next week, it will be me and Breanna Just the two of us. Our dear friend Lacey had a family emergency. And so she's down for the count. We're down a co-host, folks. So we're gonna see if we can do this. We're gonna try and manage. I'm not gonna lie. We're both just like Not that Lacey's like a mega talker. No. But like she does. She brings her own. She brings her own input to the to the game. It's not like I keep like it's weird just to be looking at you vs. I'm like, I don't have to look this way. Yeah, this is so strange. We have to stare at each other the whole time. Look into my eyes. So we'll see how this goes. We just asked that you guys keep her in her prayers. Keep her and her family in your prayers. And that that they would be back to health soon. Mm-hmm. And that we're up and running. Soon. Soon. Yes. Cause they have hay too. yes. Lots of hay. What'd she say? Her group the group text said we s I haven't even looked at my forty acres. No, actually that text I have to share this. I text in the group chat because we're making hay right now too. And I was like, Does anybody's who's who's using what for weather is what I text her. Like what app are we using for weather? Yeah. What did she say? Lacey's like I walk out the front door. Yeah, walk is like out the front door is what she texts or something like that. So I thought that this was an app. Because you're like the Weather Network and like one I don't know, you use like two other ones. Yeah. Cause I was like, mm ours screwed us. Yeah, yeah. But I I have I do Weather Network and Environment Canada. Okay, Environment Canada is the other one. But I don't love the Environment Canada app and stuff. It seems like it's In the twenty tens. just stuck. Weather network is actually like up to date. Yeah. It's like keeping up to date and it's on the ball with like what the app is. Yeah, typically. Sometimes it's off, but like not too often, actually. Okay. So we we were off out here. Totally off. We definitely got dumped on. So I was like, What is everybody using? We didn't like a ton down, but we had enough down that you're like, Down that sucks. So she says, Walk out the front door. I put that Put it in the app store and I was like, this ain't coming out. What did I I can't even What did you say? Let's look that up. I did not even I I knew she meant like she was walking out No, I thought she was talking about the app. I was like, what? I was right over my head. I could not. I think that was Sunday. It probably Or Saturday. I think it was Saturday. well then I texted Brianna, I was like, We're done our 600 acres. Yeah, I was like, that's great. And then Lacey's like, I haven't even looked at my 40. 40, yeah. okay, this is what she said. I said, What app is everyone using for weather tracking? Trin, typically weather network or environment Canada. Lacey walking out the door. I said, will be adding. That's how serious I thought she was. And then I don't know. I was like I asked them to check the rain forecast. And then I was like, we use What do you guys use? I said, we use Weather Network and Acuweather. And there's another one. And then Lacey replies back, I don't check it. When I was like, so I'm looking for this in the app store, like I'll be adding it. Yeah, I said we'll be adding. She's like, I don't check it. I literally applied back. I'm dead. I literally thought this was an app and I searched it just as this came in. I'm not kidding you. I was like walking out the door. I was like, that's actually a clever name. Like, what's the weather? Like that I was so serious about that. That is so funny. Missed it. Completely. So Jorim told me, I haven't done any research on this, but I'm trusting my husband on this one. He told me that the government cut funding for like weather networking stuff. And so so it's not as accurate as it used to be. Yeah, it's because they used to be like, okay, this is according to get into it. Let's talk weather, folks. How old are we? But no, seriously though. Because this actually affects a lot of things we do in this season. Okay. So I asked Dave, I was like, How was the weather always this inaccurate? Mm-hmm. He was like, No. They used to stay out on a ship. It was like a ship that was like out on the coast somewhere and they would report back with what weather fronts were like coming in. Yeah. Now they just use like a satellite or something. Yeah, yeah, they use a satellite. And it's the closest radar is like apparently like Vancouver or Kamloops. really? To us. So no wonder. It's off so often. Yeah. But yeah, that's why the weather reports are both. So I remember like as a kid, we would go to Prince Rupert all the time. Yeah. And they would be like somebody would be on the radio. There was like a certain radio network just for the weather and they'd be updating every constantly. Constantly. Yep. It's like okay 945 it's just no no no no and I remember it was always like no no no no no no no no no no no and Dave said there's like and I don't know if he still does. He we used to call in for the weather. Yeah. Because they didn't have cable for Keith was like eight or ten or something when they got cable. Like he was older. Yeah yeah. And yeah they they he called in for his weather Yeah I remember Do you yeah, I don't remember ever No, I remember that. Like when we would go fishing. you'd call in for it. Yeah. Yeah. Super strange. Anyways, all that to say is we our we our hay, some of our hay got rained on. But also what I figured out was rained on too. Did it? Yeah. Well, not ours actually. Neighbors. Neighbors. what something else I realized is like it was going off my location at the house, but two miles north, like where we well, I guess it's not two miles, but is it? mile and a bit north. That's probably close to Okay, but do you look at the radar? I was Did you watch it? I was, but I was pulled it I did, yeah, yeah. At six PM it may or maybe So it wasn't hitting here. But if you if you were to click it and go north, it did technically hit 'cause I rewound it. But it said we were like light. Just on the edge. Just on the edge and it was like the light one. That was a lie We got smashed Dumb. A little bit. But yeah. So that is also the issue is because we're spread out So far I probably need to like click where the field actually is. Yeah, you gotta be right on it, I guess. Okay. For us, yeah, it's the difference between my like in laws, ours and my sister in law's and like my brother in law's. So different. We're we all have different weather. It's crazy. It's wild. So talking on this like topic of like distance from I was like, like two miles. I don't actually know. I was like walking the big dogs home. Yeah. Like up to the cows, 'cause when it's really hot, they come down in the morning and then if we don't Like go out with them again. Cause they come down for scratches, they come check the young herd and then they normally get back out. But if it's too hot, they'll hang out. They're like, too hot, can't go. They go down by the creek. Yeah. Whatever. So anyways, I've been walking them up the evening when it's cooler. All the way like not all the way up north, but like what did I tell Keith? I can't remember. He was like, do you want to walk the dogs up? 'Cause I've been going for a walk. But I'm like, I it has to be five clicks, otherwise I'm not going, kind of thing. Yeah. He's like, What are you talking about? It is five clicks. I was like, it is not. With the amount of confidence I walked into this conversation. Like I was like, what? No, it's not, Keith. He looks me dead in the eye. He's like, Yeah, it is. And I was like, No, it's not. I've walked here before. I know that it's not. He's like, it's 1.6 to the top of the hill. It's another 800 down and then 400 that way. And I was like, No, it's not. I kid you not. I pull it up. You pulled out. Yeah, did like did like the field map app? Yeah. Where like calculates distance? Yes. So from this. Google Maps also does that. Or Google Earth. Google Earth. Jorims always like for fencing. Yeah. Jorims always Google Earth. I'll show you this one that we use, this field map one. We use it for fencing, cause you can save those lines and send it to another farmer to pick up those lines. We use the same app all the way around. It's so much fun. Okay. Way easier. And you can do like distance or field measurement or I don't know, there's like three different ones. Field maps can sponsor us. Yes, field maps can sponsor us. But yeah, so then he he pulls it up. I kid you not. I was like, no it's not. He was point zero two off the measurement. Wow. I was like, wow, you were spot on. He looks at me like why would you fight me? I don't know. He's like i've lived out here my whole life. You're like, this is one of those things I just need to stand my. Yeah, I was like, I just decided that I knew. I had no idea. And then he was like, why would you fight me on I've lived out here my whole life. I was like, no, actually, you we just fenced that field. That's the only way that you knew exactly what it is. He's like, no. And I was like, no, I know you fence. I know you used it to fence. Anyways, that was a fun little thing. Okay, going back to the weather thing. yeah. It is. Crazy to me that Lacey does not check the weather. I check the weather. As a photographer, I am checking the weather all the time because I'm like, okay, I have two upcoming shoots. Is it gonna rain? It's supposed to rain on Saturday, pretty bad. Yes. I have a wedding. And so I'm so stressed out. Yeah. Outdoor? Yes. They're all outdoor nowadays. Yeah, I mean, nobody does indoor now a days Venues are expensive and then lighting is garbage, so probably not. Yeah, exactly. Unless you're getting married in like a cathedral. And then also that'd be sweet. Somebody hire me. Yeah. Let me know. and then what what was I gonna say? and then I'm married to a farmer. So then I'm like also need to know if it's raining or not. I think I put this in the group chat, but seriously, I check the weather during hay season more than I check my social media. and that's not a lie. Like I'm constantly on it. Yeah. And I realized because like Between all of us, we all had probably four or five apps. He was like, There's no projection We're like going off. And I was like, Don't he's like, one says no rain on Sunday. But one did say rain. Okay. And then we said no rain. And you were the twenty percent. We were the twenty percent. Yeah. So, I'm like in the tractor, everything's fine, and then I don't know what. Me and this okay, I love the John Deere. I think I've said this. We've got like the forty-two forty on the bailer. It has the best gear split. And we aren't a family that, like, we're only blue, we're only red, we're only green. Like that is not our vibe. We're we got tractors We're anything that works. Anything that works, anything that runs, anything that's reliable. Okay. Question though. Okay, go. So we have like two of the same tractors. Yeah. Cause then it's easier to just. Parts wise. Hundred percent. Like so much easier. So we have two Bolaris'. Okay. One's like the old Balaris that is like slightly less horsepower. Okay, yeah, yeah. Not much of a seat left here, like you we don't really do anything with it other than maybe like Willow Chop or something. Yeah. And then we've got two of the same series nineteen eighties John Deere's. Okay. One's a forty four forty and one's a forty what is it? Forty two forty. Okay. But they're they're all like the same one, just like slightly more horsepower. The 4240 is my favorite or the 4440, but like I'm currently running that the 4240 on the baler. Yeah. I love that tractor. I love the gear split in the John Deere. I love that tractor. It's my favorite tractor. Yeah. But I go to bale and I was like, Keith, I need a refresher. Because last year's like the first year I fully bailed. Like I used to just cover like a lunch break and Keith would be like, do this, do that. Whereas last year like the first year I actually did it. Yeah. So he was like, k can you turn the PTO on? I gotta like oil the chains. And I was like, Okay. And I couldn't remember for the life of me where the PTO was. And I was like looking right here, because that's where it is on the Kubota. is it more like here? No, it's on the it's on the like the on the column. Like on the drive column. It's like right here. It's it's yellow. Like all PTO is like bright. And I was like Keith's like, what are you doing? I'm like opening the lift gate I was like, I don't know. I was like, just give me a minute. Quit. Quit talking to me. I gotta figure out he's awaiting. He's like, and I was like, And you're like, don't tell me, don't tell me. I was like, I can do it. I'm like, every lever. I'm like, okay. He looks and he's like, Do you want to look ahead of you at that bright yellow one to your left on the shift or on the steering column? I was like, this one. Ha ha! There it is. my gosh. I could. And he was like, do you I was you might as well just come do like a quick round with me, make sure I know what I'm doing. Can you can I trust Can you do this? Yeah. And I always make him carry his radio with him when I have to go anywhere. Especially if I'm like bale in one field. Like the breakdowns and stuff. Well that or like if the bail does 'cause like again, we run like older bailers. So like if it doesn't tie properly, why is it not tying? Or like Whatever, so do you find you have to call him a lot or no? No, I've gotten pretty good at it. Okay, yeah. It's generally if there is an issue, it's like the same two issues. okay. So but I just kinda used to it. Kind of used to it, yeah. Like the one twine arm on the left just or I guess it's on the right, is just garbage. Yeah. It doesn't like to cut. Yeah. So you constantly have to like go wrap it. Yeah. But overall I have it figured. Then I was like, Can wait, do guys keep fire extinguishers in your tractors? Yeah, okay. So so Technically you're supposed to. Yeah, I know. Legally you're supposed to. So we do We've had a tractor catch on fire. So that's a so we've had neighbours tractors catch on fire. Catch on fire, yeah. So we were talking about this 'cause I think it was the first you were out here. Keith caught the baler on fire. Yeah. Behind Granny's. Yeah. So he dumped the bale and he put it out. And I said to him, I like, What? Okay, Emergency 101 again. what do I do if there's a fire? He's like, Well, you just put it you dump the bale, put it out, like like dump the bale, get it out of the thing and get get it out. And I was like, okay. I was like, because Keith's grandpa one time, I think he was like probably pot he was retired and I think he was helping Fred or something like that. Yeah. He like didn't unhook the bailer from the tractor when it caught up. He didn't dump it or something happen. I don't know the whole maybe he couldn't dump it. I don't know what the story was. I think it maybe he couldn't dump it, but he didn't unhook or something to that effect. And it lit up the tractor too. Yeah, I don't know the whole story. I don't know if it lit up the tractor or like if it just went up the bailer, but I was just like I need a full rundown on like the what ifs. Yes. What are the steps? If something continu is continuously going wrong, tell me what I'm supposed to do. What is the emergency response plan? Yeah. How do we proceed? Anyways, he did. He was laughing at me. And I was like, Yeah, well, just in case It's thing that could happen. It does. I don't know why that like stresses me out. I like to same with like when when he was like doing his round with me. I was like, k tell me what happens if the twine arm doesn't work again. Yeah. He's like, what do mean? I was like, just tell me what I'm supposed to do. And he was like, Brea you know this. I was like, I'm like worked up. As soon as I couldn't find the PTO, I was just like, I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know anything. Like I've never done this before. He's like, Honey, you've made hundreds of bales. Like you're fine, you're overthinking of this. Yeah. Couldn't get past it. that's fine. And I kid you not, he I drop him off. He goes to go to his baler Two bales later, my twine arm quits working. Of course. And I was like, So then I was like, I go out there and I like cut it and I figured it out. Yeah. But So when you're baling do you listen to music? Do you listen to podcasts? Do you listen to a book? Actually I have to share this. Yeah, I do listen to a book. Okay, yeah. I'll listen to like an audiobook or something. I have to listen to something because when Keith and I were first dating, especially in the Kubota, if I'm cutting, I have to listen to something like exciting or like a thriller because I fall asleep. Because when we were first dating, I would sit with him while he went to go hay and he'd go cut. I'd go I'd take a nap. So now you can see sometimes where I've like dozed. Dozed. Cause they don't keep a straight line. No. You all I mean, I suck in the cutter. You don't like you know those farmers this would probably make Jorim's skin crawl. Okay. That are like perfectly up and down. so straight. Yeah. Nah nah nah nah nah. You do not want me in your field. Well, that's me. I don't think my husband would want me in the field because I'm like I would go all over the place and be like, it's fine. Yeah. And he would be like It's not fine. It's not. Yeah, like there was I think it was last year I was like in this like and especially 'cause like a lot of our squ fields aren't like s perfectly square either. Yeah. So you like really see Yeah. If it's off. So have you guys like would you ever like do logging to make things more square or to some degree, but we use a lot of the bush for grazing. For grazing. So like s lots of the places that have bush where because they were previously grazing fields that we've turned into hay fields. It's like all the fence is there for us to like switch it over. And some of it's really swampy. Right. That's the other thing. So like there's certain areas where it really wouldn't just not worth it. Worth it to log it. Yeah. So and it has helped too like probably with our water retention. Yeah. To me. yeah totally. So yeah. But yeah, anyways, I like last year here, you can see this one line. I don't know what I was doing. I was like trying to get the corner and I was like doing the hydraulic swing, right? Like whatever. And I don't know if I was just like delusional, but I swung it the wrong way. So it was just like and I was like, no. And then Keith was just like, yeah, he was just like in the quad. And he's just like, what are you doing? Like, honey, you never saw that. Yeah, no. But then this year I was bailing and I was listening to the book, the audiobook for our book club next week. Yeah. I'm not kidding you. There was like this really intense part that I, I'm not joking, I missed the row. I was like, my gosh, and I I'm not straight I have missed like it wasn't far, it was probably like ten feet. I've missed the swath swath. I had to swing back in I could and everybodys like what happened? I like, it's me. I happen. I don't know what to tell you. That's so. Pick it up on a random. I was I think it's the same part in the book. I was driving home and I had to stop. This and like rewind and re-listen to it. Yes, I had to stop. I literally tied off my bale. My bale tied off, I dumped it and I stopped and I rewound I'm not kidding. I had to stop it. I could I was like, my gosh. Same. This is what book is this called? This is called My Husband's Wife. Yeah, my husband's wife. It's so good. It's so good. I I highly recommend. It was so good. It's so dry for the first three quarters of the book. k I did not find this. Really? Everybody else, even at at the market party went to I liked the way the story built. Yeah. Some of it was like I could care less. Yeah. But I actually didn't mind the way that that was written. But everybody was like, the first sixty chapters, so boring. And I was like, I liked it. But it's like you need that to get to get to that point. Cause there's so many t so many layers. yeah. You think it's excited to talk about it at bookclub Me too. I am too. Breanna and I joined a book club. Very like last minute and totally random. Like so random. So it's also like the most hodgepodge set of ladies doing it, and I love it. Yes. And it's like, are we actually gonna get together or no? Like we'll see. They talked about it. They talked about that in the And it's in like the little group thing on Facebook. I had to download Facebook again to figure out what the group was called. That's funny. Because I'm not on. No. Anyways, it's next Tuesday. Yeah. To be determined. T B D. Anyways. Yep. that's funny. And I for like the first probably year though, I didn't listen to anything because I was so scared that I would hear something wrong. Right. Like Jorim cannot listen to anything. 'Cause you gotta hear what is tractors. I only listen with one headphone in and it's the headphone that is not on the side of my hydraulics, so I can hear if it's loading up. Yeah. But even Keith this year was like, Hey, did you hear the tractor in the thirty acre field? Like, was it loading up when you were cutting? I said, only when it was like really thick did I notice it. I said, Maybe here, but in whatever we're they're having. Like otherwise I was preoccupied. Yeah, well then he was like, Well, we're having like they had like a fuel issue, so they were asking me when I If I had heard it and I was like, I noticed it on this one corner, but then I it wasn't like a consistent thing. Da da da. Then I was like, my gosh, did I actually hear that? And I was like, no, I I wasn't listening to the crazy book at that time. I finished the book that we were talking about. That's funny. So I was like, no, we're good. But yeah, I I don't. And I don't ever listen with both headphones in. Yeah. Or I listen like on the Kubota. It's like Bluetooth or whatever. So I can tune it one way or the other. So we've gotten, this is so funny. We've gotten Combines and maybe a couple of tractors from like Hutterites. And they don't have Bluetooth or anything. They don't have a radio. Yeah, nothing's in it. They've like taken out the radios. I believe it. Which is so you guys got AC in all your tractors? not all of them. Most of them, yeah. Most of them. my gosh, the one the John Deere. But the AC always goes out like every year. Okay, the John Deere has AC, but it's it's not working. It never works. Needs to be recharged. Yeah. I'm not kidding you that one day, the day that I swerved, the whatever. my gosh. It was so hot. It was like a fishbowl in there. To the point when Dave picked me up on the side by side to go switch fields. I I was like wearing shorts. That's the other thing. I never to the farmers. To the farmers out there wearing jeans and flip nah, that ain't me. I was like out there in a tank up in my bike shorts. Or like, you know, like workout shorts. That's funny. And flip flops with an ankle on them. Probably not work safe. But anyways, whatever. That's so funny. I get on his side by side. I was so sweaty. I left a full body print. On the seat and I like, I'm so sorry. I was like wiping it off. I was so hot. It was so hot. And like even with the windows open. Yeah, it's just not enough. Not enough airflow in there. Not enough airflow. And it gets dusty too. Like if you're on the wrong side of the wind. yeah. I keep the windows open even with the dust. I don't even I'll take the I will take the minimal amount of airflow. I also though I do like the windows 'cause it I feel like I can hear the baler better. yeah. Which I also think my one ear is more select than the other. Yeah, yeah, I definitely have one ear that's better than the other. Yeah, so I always turn this ear to the baler so I can hear it better. Yeah. I don't know why. No way I would do too. But and then I always listen with my bad ear. Yeah, that's when I listen at home, I listen with my left ear. Yeah. Okay, wait, I wanna try those. Speaking of listening, I'm tired of my ear pods, they always fall in out of my ears. Mm. Drive me nuts. Yeah. I wanna get those I think they're called like shocks or something like that. And they sit like here, not in your ear, but they sit here. Kind of like you know how a cochlear implant works? Like it's similar. So it vibrates against I think it's your cheekbone or your jawbone or whatever, something right on your face. And you can hear it without actually anything being in your ear. Something like in your ear. And I feel like that would be better for hearing the equipment. Yeah. Also for your eardrums. a hundred percent. I'm like, this is probably so bad for my hearing. Cannot be great. No. No. Listening to a thirty hour book. Ugh. I finished my gosh. I finished that the book whatever that my husband's wife in two days. Yeah, I did two hours. When I worked out and when I walked, and then I finished the rest on the tractor. I could not stop. It was good. It was so good. Yeah, I was into it. I I have another recommendation. That I'll give you at Book Club because I think I'm gonna recommend it for our next book. Okay, yeah. This is when that I actually have the physical book, not the audio book. But I would read again. You would listen to it. Yeah, it was good. It's very good. I actually have to get it back from Taylor. Yeah. She got it. So we went to Ag in Motion. Tell me all about this. Everybody was like, Why are you going to Ag in Motion? And first What is Ag in Motion for people who don't know? Because I did not know what this was until I met you. Big farm show. It's not inside a building. It is in some farmer's field just outside of Saskatoon. And there are so many vendors. It's crazy. Like how many? Hundreds? Hundreds. There was probably like 600 vendors. Free stuff. yeah. I love going to like a farm trade show or any sort of that kind of thing. For like Okay. k GO The Hutterites go nuts. For the free stuff? For the free stuff. Like bags. bags. Somebody was doing like grain shovels. So like a bunch of huts had like these grain shovels. And their bags are like right full of stuff. There was this one guy who like had this hammer on the ground that I don't know how much it weighed. It weighed a ton. But there were these hutterates like struggling to pick it up. And like a bunch couldn't. And then this one guy came and like picked it up with one arm. And then a couple others did it with two arms. And I was just like, these people are nuts. But there was like like the sprayer drone guys were there. Yeah. And then we have like your John Deere, your Horsch, your New Holland, Case, like everything under the sun you could think of is there. And then they like headgate people. So there's like a little cattle area too. But it's mainly farm. It's a lot of farming. Like grain. Because then like you're walking down this path. They had like it's crazy. It's They have British Columbia is like the name of the street, basically. Okay, that's There's like British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and then maybe one more. And then it's like first, second, third, fourth. Like it's crazy. Really? Yeah. Did your kids like Farm Credit Canada has a big booth there Who had the biggest booth? John Deere, obviously. Did they really? Yeah. Cause they bring all their different Sprayers and tractors and discs. Like New Hollander case also. Yeah, New Holland and Case had big stuff too. But I would say John Deere had a lot. And then there were Good food. my goodness. The Schnitzel. The Schnitzel! We're back baby!!! Okay, they had this little German food truck. That I saw the day before we had passed, we were driving into Saskatoon and they were driving out to the Ag in Motion. And I was like, my gosh. It was called the frying Deutschmann instead of like the flying Deutschmann. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oof. And so I Googled it. Because I was like, that better be at Ag in Motion. And it was, and it was so good. You see that schnitzel Yeah. Nice. so good. Anyways, so you're walking down these paths and then they have a bunch of different like they have there's like a ton of different plots of canola. Like these little strips like test crops. This fertilizer you know, like the this is the type of whatever is planted. Then all this is what we use. This is the input. Look how much better it grew. Or like look how it didn't grow. Yeah. So like Jorim's not really into that. His brothers would have been into that for sure, but Jorim's was like, yeah, whatever, it's just a crop Just canola. It's fine. Okay, wait, another question on the topic of crops. What's the first thing you guys are harvesting? I know hay, but like other than your hay. Okay, so sheep's fescue. Okay. So like grass seed. This might be a question for your husband, but you might know it. Is fescue in every other year crop? I thought we did it every year. Hmm. I'd have to ask. Cause I feel like I because the guys out here do fescue. So we like creeping red fescue and then sheep's fescue. can we But our fescue did not do good this year. It was really bad actually. interest. Too dry? Yeah, I think so. If you're farming fescue, you turn it like because it's a creeping grass, does it not start to take over if you're like well you spray it out? yeah, okay. We don't do that, so but it might be in every other year. But you know what? It might be don't nobody quote me, okay? I might be out of my depth, but I will try to answer this question. Let's see if I'm right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I will totally be corrected. I think we plant it one year and then we harvest it the next Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that But I don't know if we keep it in for the year after that or if we Text your hubs. And if he answers back, that's great. If he doesn't, we'll do like a add-in. Add in I should just get Jorim like talk in and then my can't just call him. Hey honey, question time. I actually think we should do an episode with Jorim because have some questions. Yes. I've got some questions? He is so smart. Yeah, this is totally not our area of expertise. Okay. It's okay. I'll see what he says. So curious. Yeah. and what's the next thing that we harvest? I'm trying to remember. I should ask him. The thing is we were gone for a week and we just got back and now I'm like, I don't know where we are what we're doing. I don't know. I don't know what day it is. I don't know what year it is. And I have so many weddings. So many weddings. Poor thing. So I don't know actually. All right. We'll leave it. He's going to Grand Prairie today. Pick up. he went to this like combine clinic. I was like He's like, I'm going to this combine clinic. And I was like, What is a combine clinic? Like everybody's like l brings their combines? Yeah. Like like we just pull up? Like what are we doing? Or like, is there one combine and you So yeah, I think it's a case combine that came. It's like in Fairview or something like that. Okay. And it's like how to Your inputs and outputs and you know all that stuff. yeah, that's interesting. But I also was like, What? What is this? Okay, we I want to do an episode with your hubby on pesticides and fertilizers. Yes. Or no pesticides, pesticides and fertilizers. Yeah, okay. Yeah. So for the first time ever, we had to spray 170 acres because the oxide daisies came in so stinking bad. Like, how? this is like an ongoing issue. This has been an ongoing thing. This was an ongoing. But oxide daisies are fast and hard. Hard. So hard. And we have been like grazing this field to bring it back because it wasn't it wasn't producing hay. So we started grazing. I think this is the Third year we've grazed it and it was at our legumes and everything was just starting to come back. And now to kill off the oxide daisies, we had to kill everything, and the only thing that'll remain is the grasses. So like your brome, I think it's like your bromine. it was a broadleaf spray. Broadleaf? Yes. Because that's the only thing that kills. Because that kills all your legumes. Yep. So our clover, our alfalfa, birds foot tree foil, all those fun things. Yeah. Not going to survive. Yeah. So we might have to like reseed it to some other type of grasses. Just in case the daisies come back. Well, not only that, but to cover the ground and all the places that that's gonna die up. Yeah. Yeah. Cause there's there's not gonna be any grazing now, anyways. No. Super sad. Super frustrating. One year we did like beets and a bunch of stuff as a cover crop. I would love to do beets. My father in law has this thing against beets because Apparently your cow's can choke on your beets What do you mean? I don't know. Like a whole beet Yeah. Yeah. What? I don't know the whole scheme. Hide. I don't know if he it's he knows. Jorim said it's complicated. Okay, so we'll do perennial, so it takes a year after seeding. Yep. It's like your hay. To establish, but then you can typically harvest it two or three years in a row. Okay. So yeah, you're right. Yeah, you're right. So yeah, so it's like your hay. That's why you underseed hay and you plant Generally you plant something else. Yes. Like that's why you plant green feed. Yeah. Cause the first year's an annual, so your oats or whatever. Yeah. Come up. Yeah. Then the second year is you your hay. You do your hay, yeah. Generally. Totally. Have you guys ever done this also might be a question for do you guys do like rye grass? Winter rye? Well, we do perennial rye. Hmm. I don't know. Maybe I'm off. And it will still grow with whatever the broadleaf issue thing the broadleaf spray that we had, it'll still grow. And it's good because it's like it's dense like Like a legum would be, but it's a technically a grass. I think that's what it was called. We're chat. I was on chat trying to figure out what we could do because No, I was so sad because I mean that's a whole c that's a ton of feed and everything that you need. Totally. It's a hundred and seventy acres of grazing just there's like winter wheat and stuff like that, but I don't know. hold on. I found it. Okay, so ryegrass is one, but the other one was yeah, ryegrass or cool season mix with peas, oats, and ryegrass. Says the quickly, even in late summer, provide fall cover, biomass, and are well adapted to northern BC conditions. This can be grazed or left as mulch. Screenshot it and send it to me. Okay. Yeah, I'll ask Jorim just do a question time with our Resident Farmer on the Yeah, we should. 'Cause the other thing is too I would like to well, I'd probably do more research, but how to We should do like a two parter with Jorim. Yeah. We can do that. Yeah. I'll come to you guys. Because people have so many questions about like pesticides and herbicides and stuff like that. What it is. Yeah, and also there's a lot of misconceptions, I think. Yeah. Behind it. Yeah. As well. Totally. But yeah. Yeah. It's kind of a random episode, but Hey, we're here. We're here. We showed up. We made it work. Should we do a recipe? Yes, we should do a recipe. Okay, do you want to know what we're living off right now? Okay. Sweet potatoes, corn, sausage. I do beef sausage because I always have it on hand. So just diced sweet potatoes. Yeah, just diced sweet potatoes, throw them in your oven for like 40 minutes. Okay. Just canned corn, frozen corn, I don't care. Corn. Mm-hmm. Your sausage, chop it up. Cook it, chop it up. Make a bowl out of it. And then it's like a mayo sour cream, paprika onion, parsley, garlic, salt and pepper. Mix it all together and like throw it in this bowl with some I do avocado on the side. Keith don't eat avocado avocado avocados. Avocado. And so throw it all together. it's so good. It's like twenty minutes. Well, if you've got sweet potatoes prepped, it's fast. If you don't Did you do it all in the crock pot? Or you want your sweet potatoes like crispy crispy. You want your sweet potatoes crispy. You probably could do it on the crock pot if you didn't care if they're crispy. Can't speak to it though I haven't done it. I'm not the biggest sweet potato, but I could get into it. I think I could. It's really good. It's nothing I'd never like go to the grocery store and I'm like, ooh, that's what I'm a sweet potato. Like the yam. so good. That's funny. Do you think sweet potatoes and yams are different? Remember this happening? Yes, we talked about this. Where I had bought one and it was supposed to be the other one. I bought a y what is it? The orange okay, I'd bought the white one, but it was supposed to be. It's supposed to be the orange one. It's like in the stores, the orange ones are sweet potatoes. I feel they're so similar. Yep. The way you flavor it can change it totally. yeah, I could agree with that. Because you can you can do like the sweet potato casserole. Mm-hmm. Where you put the marshmallows. And then you so good. So good. But then you can have sweet potatoes like salty. Yep. You can do a lot of sweet potatoes. I make sweet potatoes or like you used to do a sweet potato skillet. Yeah. So good. Yeah, I remember that. That was really good. Really good. What else you got? What's yours? Pierogi casserole. Ooh, you do love Okay, tell me this. Tell me what it is. Okay, so it's like pierogies and then store bought pierogies. Store b just for Lacey. Storebought pierogies. I did make homemade pierogies a couple of weeks ago. How was that? But it's like a lot of work for like two meals. Yep. I did them for our wedding. Don't recommend. Me and my stepdad did it for my wedding. Like every other year I'll make pierogies. Yeah. Do a big batch, freeze them. Freeze them. They're so special and they taste so good that you can't just eat them all the time. No, you got it's like a it's like a you have to make it worth your while. You do for it has to be a special occasion. Yeah. Okay, so it's a perogie casserole, Yes, perogie Sausage. Yes. Dice it up. Yes. Put it in. And then you basically do like a sour cream sauce. Ooh. And then you throw it in the oven. Can we kind of have a theme this year? This week. Sour cream and Yeah. white sauce. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yum. Yum. And if you need more details, then just like go on Pinterest and literally search up perogie Casserole. And there's so many good ones. Okay, think I've asked you this, but maybe I haven't. Are you like a recipe follower? Yes. Like you're gonna follow it to a T? Yes. Okay. Unless it's garlic and like salt and pepper. Yeah, those things you measure with my heart. Obviously I measure with my heart. Okay. I'm not actually But it's like sour cream, three quarter cup sour cream. You're doing exactly three quarter cup sour cream. I'm like, yeah, it looks like three quarter cups. Could be a cup, could be half a cup, somewhere around there. It's there. Yeah, no. Yeah, or not. I drive my mom crazy. She measured everything. yeah. But I do me well, I was gonna say when I bake. When I bake some things, I measure everything. If you're doing baking powder or baking soda, you have to measure that. What? I probably should. Well, what's the worst that's gonna be happening? It's gonna be extra fluffy or it's not gonna arise. Yeah, sometimes it tastes like baking soda. I ain't never done that bad. Well, do more than like isn't it normally like a quarter teaspoon? Nah, you can get up to a teaspoon, you'd be alright. Yeah, you're fine. You're fine. It's fine, it's Don't ask it's thick. Yeah. Your pancakes are this thick. No, they're not they're huge. Anyways, alright. That's up. That's great.
