- 0:55SPEAKER_01: I absolutely adored their line and um I'm so excited to share their journey with you.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: So without further ado, I want to introduce you guys to the co-founders of a brand called Good Faith Skin Care, Katie Baynes and Michelle Fry.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the show, Katie and Michelle.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited you guys are here.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: Hi, thanks for having us.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're excited to be here.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: It's such a pleasure to host you.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: I would love to um get started.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Maybe, Michelle, you can start us off with just how you guys met and how this whole journey began.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, the line is just so fantastic.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: I absolutely love it.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, we appreciate that so much.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Um, Katie and I met now, gosh, uh two years ago.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, three, three, four years ago.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Um, so actually Katie uh was working on another business that she and her husband have, and they brought me on to work on some development of new products for um a different segment of the industry.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: And we started that project and got to know each other and realized kind of throughout the development of that, that we connected on so many other things.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: We shared a lot of the same values, we started chatting about our passion for beauty and wellness, and we realized pretty quickly that we wanted to do something different than initially intended and um created good faith.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: And we have worked really closely together and have learned so much about each other and our similar interests and our similar passion for this, and have been, you know, so lucky to be able to work to create this and see it come to life.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Katie, maybe you can give us uh a few sides of your story too, uh to add to Michelle.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: Of course, I'd be happy to.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: So, like she said, my husband and I were working on another business, and he was really interested actually in bringing on someone who had a background in product development.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: So he connected with Michelle and he's a dreamer.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: So he has tons of ideas all the time.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: So when he had yet another one, I kind of was like, you know what, you go run with that.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: I'm focused on what I'm focused on.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: Honestly, didn't even sit in on the interview with Michelle initially.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: But then when I started talking with her once she was on the team, um, I knew she had a background in beauty, specifically in um product development.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: So I started just asking her my personal questions that I had about different ingredients and um just different product or problems I was having with stuff with my skin.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: Um, like she said, we just really connected on a lot of levels, both personally and um with what we were like some of our frustrations that we were having with our uh with kind of the bigger beauty industry in general.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: Um, so she we were working on another project at the time, but then it the product just kind of or the project just kind of evolved um as we discovered our common passion really for this.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: And um it took we were working on it for two years prior to launch.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: So there was really a lot of time for it to evolve.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: And we like to always say good faith has known what it's wanted to be this whole time, and we're honestly just trying to keep up with it because um the she knows what she wants to be, and we're just trying to discover and um really help her be her best self.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Um, so it's it's been a really fun process, and we're honestly just so excited with where we're at now and um what the feature holds.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: I love that, and I really love the name of the line, good faith.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: It's like the biggest smile on my face because it's it reminds you of home, right?
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know, no, honestly, the the story behind the name that's really one for Katie to answer because it was a journey to get there.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: Um, it wasn't easy to land on that name, but I think it makes it even more meaningful now and it couldn't be more perfect.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: So I think that's a great one for Katie to share the background on.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'd be happy to.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: So um, like I said, we started this the project, which is now good faith, probably what was it, like summer of 2019.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: Um, and so we were working on a few different formulas.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: Well, the serum was the first one that we started really working on and testing.
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: Um, but we knew we wanted to come up with more.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: And so throughout the process, we were just trying to keep in mind, okay, what should we call this brand?
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: And we originally had a name that we really liked and kind of put on the back burner, but being this being our first time, we didn't think to trademark it.
- 5:10SPEAKER_03: So that name has been taken.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Um, and so we were trying to find other names.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: Um, and so we at this point we're working with the trademark attorney and just kept submitting names that we we liked, none of them we liked as much as the first one, but we just kind of kept submitting and we kept getting rejection saying, no, sorry, someone's using that, that one's taken.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: And so then it got to the point where we were literally making up words, like we were using a word scramble, like putting in our names, putting in our dogs' names, like it was spitting out random words that aren't even words in the English language, and we were submitting them, and they were all taken somehow.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: And we were like half just laughing, and how is this possible?
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: And also at the same time, just so discouraged.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: Like, how what are we gonna name this brand?
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: It means so much to us, and we want the name to evoke what we're trying to do and really have a meaning.
- 5:58SPEAKER_03: And um, so we were on a team call, and someone had just said, you know what, let's just keep our heads up.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: The right name will come along, and we'll all know it when we hear it.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: And as that person saying that, I'm on my computer and I'm in the like just Google Thesaurus, and I'm typing in words that I feel like of kind of explain the mission of the brand or like the heart of who we're trying to be.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Um, and then I'm I was using the thesaurus and just clicking like synonym, synonym, synonym, synonym.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: Um, and so I typed in, I think the word genuine initially was what I typed in.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: And then again, just synonym, synonym, synonym, and somewhere five or six clicks later, the term good faith came up as a synonym.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: And I over to the side, Googled it, and I was like, that I love that.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: It's got to be taken.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: And nothing came up when I Googled it.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: And then I even looked at the URL, goodfaith.com, and no one was actively using it.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: So I was like, I can't believe this isn't taken, everything else is taken, there's no way this is available.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: But we submitted it right away.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: Um, and the trademark attorney came back and said, I'm shocked, but yeah, no, it's open.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: And so we love it that it's a legal term and it means with honesty and sincerity of intention.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: And that's just honestly, I mean, the early, early discussions Michelle and I were having part of our frustration was it is are the way brands marketing because that's the truth, or is it just marketing tactics and whatnot?
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: So we just always wanted to come at our market and our community with just the most honest and pure intentions.
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: And so we felt like this name just perfectly encapsulated what we were trying to do.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: So we love it.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: It it truly just found us, and we're so, so thankful.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: No, I absolutely love it.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: And you know, it's crazy because um I was so I I'm Indian and my parents were raised in India, and you know, in India it's British English, right?
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: That they they speak and they learn in schools.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: And so I grew up with my father always saying, Well, do it in good faith, you know, put this in good faith.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: And so when I first saw your brand, I just felt like, yes, you know, because that that word and I mean that phrase is there's a very strong meaning in that, you know, it's it's really like just you have to trust each other and you know, you have to build trust with one another.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: And it's almost like a community thing, right?
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Like that's what it reminds me of.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: So I love it.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad that you guys went with it.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: It's it's a beautiful name.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: And I I have to say, all of the products I'm in love with.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: So I want to learn all about um the formulation side of things.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Like, I I really want you guys to kind of dive in because I know you also have not just the skincare, which everyone listening, their skincare is phenomenal, um, but also they have supplements, and I love your supplements, which I want to dive into soon.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: But I would love for um maybe Michelle or uh you can get us started on the formulation aspect, you know, when you guys, you know, how you guys went about that and how you chose your chemists and all that good stuff.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: So as Katie mentioned, my background is in product development.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: So I've spent my entire career at this point, 15 plus years, working um creating products globally in both skincare and color cosmetics.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: So we were really fortunate that I was able to tap into that experience and also the connections that I have from working in the industry for so long to ensure that we were going to the very best labs, the best manufacturers, so that we could uphold these quality guidelines that we wanted to for our customer and really provide the best experience by selecting, you know, sustainable ingredients of the highest quality, make sure that we're going through all of the testing, things that a lot of new brands or new people, new um entrepreneurs to the industry might not have access to.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: So we we called on um those contacts that I have and we went to who we felt were the best from the start.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: Um, and so it's a great process because we started by really looking at okay, what are the problems that we want to solve?
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: Tapping into our consumer, our target market, determining, you know, how can we help her?
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: Um, and so one of the first things that we did was look at the problems, create briefs around that to solve it, and then really push these suppliers to say, we want to do this and we want the best formulation, but we're gonna do this in a way that's accessible.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: So we fought very hard to make sure that we could maintain what we felt were really fair price points, considering the formulations that we were putting out.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: So it was um a process to get there, but it's one that we were were very passionate about that resulted in these really high quality products that deliver on their claims and you know are excessively priced.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I mean it's it's really, really interesting to me that you, you know, you have a very tight um, you know, selection of products, but every single one is just it's it's packed with quality.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: And that is something that I just want to commend both of you on because, you know, after countless interviews with so many brands, and I love every brand that comes under skincare anarchy, don't get me wrong, but I, you know, I've seen a lot of them, and it's like, you know, sometimes I wonder, I'm like, why do you need 50 products?
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: You know, it's confusing people.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: So I want to um actually ask you guys about that, you know, Katie, like when you guys were trying to figure out, you know, what are some of the best uh first few products to come out with, what was the what was the vision of that?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: And what was the um you know drive behind that?
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: What you wanted to really put out there?
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: So the first product, as I mentioned earlier, was the serum, and that came about truly organically.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: I went to Michelle, honestly, on a friendship level, and said, Hey, I'm having this problem with dark spots on my cheeks where it constantly looks looks like my face is dirty.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: What products are out there that can help me?
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: Um, and she said, you know what, let me try to work on one for you.
- 11:31SPEAKER_03: And so within a few months, she came back with a sample and said, just start using this.
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: And it was so funny is she said, use it on half your face.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Okay, that's a crazy idea, but I'm game.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: So I started using it on half my face.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: And I'm not even kidding when I say within probably four to six weeks, I was having people that I saw frequently and infrequently comment on how bright that side of my face was looking.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: And it truly just blew me away.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: So that was a vitamin C serum.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: We went through a few um iterations of that formula.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: So we kind of we started with that, and then we wanted to really just build around it.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: And so the thought from the beginning was let's come out with we we do want to get to the point where we have more targeted treatment products, but we really just wanted a solid daily regimen, something that is not overwhelming, that's gonna be able to be used on all skin cut skin types, that's kind of a plug and play into other um other routines that people might have.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: We realized that not everybody is only gonna use one brand, um, even though we might ourselves.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: But we knew that there were gonna be people out there that said, you know what, I'm really happy with my cleanser and my serum, but I am looking for a good moisturizer.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: And so we wanted to make sure that we had products that could just play really well with others.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: So the initial thought was let's just come out with a really nice uh daily line that can be used morning and night, that's not gonna be overwhelming, like you said.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, who has time for time or money for 15, 20 products?
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Um, that we felt like it was gonna do what it needed to do to really cleanse, keep the skin healthy and hydrated.
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: Um, and then also just prevent from the like prevent the little things that we, if we're honest, all kind of bug us, like the hyperpigmentation, some of the blemishes.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: Um, we like to say that smile lines are a sign of a good time.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: So um, but I I think if we're all honest, we're we're trying to target that that area too.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: So um that was the the thought behind the initial five skincare products.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: I I really love that.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Michelle, if you wanted to add anything to that.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: And then when we were looking at the skincare products and we're determining, you know, how do we create a healthy routine for someone to care for their skin and really focus on skin health?
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: And that's where the supplement factor came in, because what we realized is in doing our research and talking to these chemists and consulting different scientists, you know, they came back and they said there's so much that you can do topically, which is great.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: However, if you want to get to the root of the cause, a lot of that's what's happening internally.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: And so there are certain things that you need in your foundation for a skin and wellness routine that truly will make a difference.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: And so that's where we started next with adding the women's wellness plus probiotics.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: And that for us was the true foundation of the supplements in that, you know, healthy gut, healthy skin.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: And in doing our research, we found so many people didn't realize the benefit of probiotics in terms of their skin specifically.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: And so we wanted to educate on that because we felt there was a lot of room there and a need in the industry to talk about the tie between the two and have a brand really connect the dots for the consumer between, you know, skin health and overall wellness.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And you know, I'm glad that you brought up the supplements, honestly, because you know, I was really looking forward to this interview mostly because I wanted to rave and just tell the whole world how much I'm in love with your um the de-stress that supplement, because I am somebody who has um clinical anxiety and I've um suffered from like panic disorder and um you know depression, anxiety my whole life.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: And so when I see um supplements that are kind of geared towards helping with anxiety specifically, I am very, very curious, right?
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: And I remember like about five, 10 years ago, there was really nothing on the market.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Like I remember, you know, experimenting with like valerian roots and um, you know, uh like uh St.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: John's ward and all these little things that people said would work, but nothing worked.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: And so I remember when I first tried your supplements, it was a day where I did not have my anxiety medication at hand.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: And it was it was good because I had your supplements in my bag, but believe it or not, I was just like, because I, you know, when I try to just keep them with me, you know, just to make sure I'm trying them.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: And I took two capsules and I kid you not, it felt just like it would if I had taken that medication, which by the way, is is what I'm on is like it's known to be addictive, so I don't take it a lot.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: So it's like when I took your supplements, I was like, this is amazing.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Like I feel okay.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Like I feel okay, and I just in that moment I realized how much quality is in your line.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: So I would love for you to like discuss that specific product because it's it's beautiful and it's really, really great.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, thank you.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: We that feedback means the world to us.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: It's exactly why we are doing this.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: We really want to be able to make an impact um, you know, for our customers.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: And that particular product came from the fact that when we were looking at our target demographic and we did countless focus groups in the development process of the brand, we heard through from everyone really that a big problem in their life was stress and managing stress, managing anxiety, you know, more than ever in the past couple of years, we feel that's heightened.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: And so we wanted to create something that was, again, trusted, of the highest quality in a way that was accessible and affordable.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: Not everyone has access to products like that to help, or they don't want to take something, like you said, that has the potential to be addictive or makes you feel, you know, different than your normal self.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: And so in developing this one, we were very, very focused on creating a product that worked, but that let you feel like your best self so that you could take it and not feel groggy, over overly relaxed to where you couldn't be productive, you know, or just feel any different.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: We wanted you just to feel like, okay, I'm at my baseline calm again.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: And I personally am someone who with this product, I have it is a favorite of mine in my routine.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Um, because like you, you know, my anxiety can be high.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: And I was the perfect tester for this throughout the process on that.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: And I notice a big difference and I find myself grabbing for it.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: And what I love about it is that I take a couple, and it's almost like I forgot that I've taken anything because I just feel like myself.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: I have a great day, I can move on about my day.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Um, and I don't have that weird kind of hangover that you get sometimes from other similar products.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: It's like a base, it puts you at baseline.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Like that's the way to describe it, puts you back on like normal, you know, back to normal.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: And that's it, it's a very hard thing to accomplish.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's a I mean, uh, I kid you not, you know, the whole pharmaceutical industry is, you know, it's it's it's trying to create something that people can use that's not addictive.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: So I think this is an amazing option for anyone out there that's you know dealing with anxiety, stress, you know, just everyday kind of stuff, right?
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's great.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: And we we really believe that, you know, we want our we're very passionate about our customer, you know, we want them to like how they look, but we want them to love how they feel.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: And so that has a lot to do with, you know, the fact that we're connecting the skincare and the wellness piece.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: And for us, you know, beauty is so much about how you feel as well.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: You know, when we talked about what beauty meant to us and to our consumer when we were doing our focus groups, oftentimes people responded where, you know, I felt my most beautiful in a moment where they felt loved or cared for.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: It was not all the you know, the vanity piece of it.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: And so the overall feeling is huge for us.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: And you'll see that, you know, ingrained in the brand, and and it's you know, kind of woven through everything and ties back to our brand manifesto, which um for us is the soul statement in you know, defining what beauty means to us.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: So knowing that we had even that impact on you taking it, it it tells us that you know we're doing exactly what we should be doing.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I Katie, I heard you in the background.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you were uh wanted to chime in on something.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, I think Michelle put it perfectly, honestly.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, like she said, our our goal was always to get people to just feel like themselves when they're having a good day, when they're at their best.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: Um and I think this product accomplished that perfectly.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: I I I take it most mornings.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: Um, I really try hard to remember because I do feel like I'm just less irritable.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: Things don't get to me as much.
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: I'm still able to be very productive.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: Um, I I do, I just feel like my best self when I take it.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: And like Michelle said, it's not, it's so subtle that I often forget I even took anything.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: I'm just feeling like it's a good day.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: So uh thank you for your feedback.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: Honestly, it means so much when we get that feedback.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: And um, I just really appreciate you sharing that with us because it truly just makes our day.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: No, it's it's it's a beautiful product.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: And you know, I know that it it contains some of the things that I was talking about, like Valerian Rudas in there.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: And um, I love that you guys have put GABA like at the forefront and it's like right there because you know, I'm not kidding.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: Like when I was first exploring these kind of natural products, um, you know, nobody talked about GABA.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: And I was like, that is literally the main channel in your, you know, on your neurons that's responsible for modulating anti, you know, anxiolytic effects.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: And so we, you know, for you putting that right there, front and center, that's not only great for your product, but it's great for consumer um, you know, understanding, you know, awareness, education.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: I love that uh that you guys have done that.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I want to actually ask you about that.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: Is in terms of like, you know, getting um, you know, information out to your following and your consumers, like do, you know, do people kind of ask you a lot of questions about the supplements?
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, do you guys get a lot of uh, you know, just questions about tell me more about the science or you know, how how is that?
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, I I can imagine having a supplement in your brand, it must be a little trickier than just you know, skincare products.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think there are definitely more questions about that.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: And and you know, with good reason, I think it's fair if you're going to ingest something that you're probably gonna ask more than let's say a lotion that you're applying to your skin.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: And so we're happy to always educate and we feel there's a lot of room for that.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Um, so we really go back to the experts.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: And so in developing it, we had consulted a leader in the industry, um, a scientist who has developed supplements for 35 plus years to help us in this.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: And so we have this um great resource where you know, even us as consumers, we're learning in this process.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: We go and consult him and we get this information and we share that with our community.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: And we always welcome their questions and their feedback.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: And we love having this open conversation and this dialogue.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Um, because as I said, I think there's just so much room to educate on it.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: And what we found in the process too is that you know, we make different claims than some of our competitors that are out there.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: And the reason being is because we never overpromise.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: We are very strict about what we say.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: We don't say anything for the sake of marketing.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: You know, that's something that for me, as someone that's been in the industry for many years, I felt a lot of pressure to um from you know, other brands or for retailers to make claims sometimes and innovate for the sake of innovation and call it an ingredient and say it does all of these wonderful things, even if maybe it doesn't really, or maybe you don't have enough of it in the product.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: And so for us, we um, you know, really want to educate the consumer on this is the ingredient, this is why we use it, this is what it's going to do for you.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: So they know exactly what they're getting.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: And if they have other questions about that, we welcome them, we educate them, and we like learning oftentimes alongside them as well.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: And you know, I love that you said that about not overpromising because I'm not gonna lie, you know, I've talked to the doctors and the and the plastic surgeons, and you know, anyone I invite on with a science background, uh, they always tell me, you know, Ecta, it's important that people understand that skincare and you know, self-care products like this, this is a maintenance thing that you're doing here, right?
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's it's about maintaining results, it's about maintaining a baseline, like we talked about.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: And I think um, you know, when I look at your brand, I see exactly that.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Like you're getting what you're buying.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: You're you're really just you're not trying to sit there and say, well, you know, we're gonna make everything better for you.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Your whole aging process is gonna go away.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: You're not gonna ever need Botox, you're never gonna, you know, that kind of stuff.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Like it's complete BS, right?
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: And so I'm really it's refreshing to see a brand that's saying, listen, these are good quality products, they do what they're saying, you know, hear the ingredients and enjoy.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Like that's that's very, very real and that's very rare in this industry.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: So, you know, that that's great.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I commend you guys for that.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: No, that was something that was extremely important to us is being able to deliver on our claims because we recognize and respect how hard it is to earn money and earn a living.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: And if people are choosing to spend their hard-earned dollars with us, we really want to make sure that we're giving them what we said we would give to them.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: So that's been uh a goal, uh the top one of our top goals from the beginning.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: So thank you so much.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: Um, so what about in terms of you know, uh accessibility?
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Because I know that the products are so well priced and um everyone can really afford them.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, genuinely.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: And they're you guys have a lot of product, like in each uh, you know, like if you buy one of the serum, like it's gonna last you for a long time.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Like it's it doesn't take a lot.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: So, what in terms of like accessibility, have you guys thought about it like maybe, you know, um being available in Target or like these big uh stores, or is that not something on your radar right now?
- 24:51SPEAKER_03: No, it's definitely on our radar.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: It's a goal of ours.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: We wanted to launch direct to consumer initially, um, really to try to just build that community to have more touch points with them, to get to communicate with them, ask their questions, ask for their feedback, even.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: We're really trying to pull in our community on new products that we're working on.
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: So that was the goal.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: But yeah, speaking of accessibility, that's price and it's location.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: It's where can they get it?
- 25:14SPEAKER_03: So it is absolutely our goal in the next um, I don't know, six, 12, 18 months to really start to begin those discussions with retailers because we do feel like that's one of the next steps for our brand.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Um, no, I have a question regarding clean beauty and the idea of being a vegan brand.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: You know, how is that?
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: How like what was that journey like?
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: You know, is it is it hard to create a clean and vegan brand?
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, what what goes behind the scenes in that?
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's hard.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: I think nowadays it's almost what's expected.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: And so I think it's a point of entry into skincare in the industry now.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: I think for us, we didn't want to do it for the sake of marketing.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: Again, if we're passionate about it, we believe it's what's you know right for the customer, then you know, that's what we're going to do.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: But you don't see us coming out and screaming a list of this many ingredients or this or that.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: Instead, we focus really on what we put into the product, but all of our product, but all of our formulations are considered clean.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: We pay very close attention to every single ingredient.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: You know, um, the vegan thing and the cruelty-free was important.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: We are animal lovers.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: And so it's something that we were conscious of in the development process.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: Um, and for us, we, you know, can will continue to do so.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: And we're very strict about every formulation and ensuring, again, that it goes back to our name.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: Like they can trust us, you know, we're doing things honestly and we will uphold those standards.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: No, I really love that.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: And I think, you know, one of my big things with with, I guess, clean beauty brands or vegan brands is that I I think sometimes they fall into this, I guess, trap of like they want people to understand that they're still very efficacious, you know, just because you're a clean brand or a vegan art doesn't mean that it doesn't work.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: It's it's the exact opposite, actually, you know, because the more the more you stick to the the original, I think, the better, right?
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: So um what's your you know, what what's that journey been like in terms of the education of the consumer and like really kind of um promoting this to like the newer generations?
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Like how what's that experience been like?
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Because I'm not gonna lie, I don't know much about Gen Z.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: I've said that many times on the show in terms of their buying and their consumer and their just what they look for, right?
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: In a product.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: So how has that been marketing to that kind of generation?
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it has been slightly different in that the way they um absorb information is different.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: Everything's very quick.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, not a lot of time is spent.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: So there's there's very small window where you're able to keep their attention, deliver that message to them to then get them to buy into the story and understand what you're trying to say.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: And so for us, we've turned to social media to do that.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: That's been, I think, uh, for us one of the biggest ways to connect to them.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: And so we're very mindful of the content that we put out.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: And so we take to social to educate.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: We oftentimes ask for their feedback.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: I think they're a generation that wants to be heard and they have a lot to say.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: They do what they do their research and they know what they're looking for.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: And so I think by having that, you know, open conversation with them and having them even be part of the development process, which is something we're working towards, um, and creating a group where they're able to join, share feedback, try things before they launch.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's a goal for us too, because they're the reason why we're doing it.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: So um that's really been a way that we've been able to connect and incorporate that feedback and really get to our consumer directly.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Makes sense.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: No, I mean, it for me, there's still it's still an anomaly on how I target Gen Z.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: So that's why I asked you because I'm like, maybe I can also get some tips from you.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Because honestly, I the the way that I think the younger generation consumes content and just that instant gratification factor is very interesting to me when I think about like skincare, because you know, uh you clearly you have to stick to a routine, right?
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: To see benefits and to see the real results.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: And so in in that regard, um, what do you usually tell people?
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, how long should they really stick to a full routine um with good faith products to really see what the desired results?
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: We like to say um good faith in four.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: So if you know if you give something four weeks, um if you give something a month of trying it out, you're going to see results.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: And some people it's going to be less, depending on what their problems may be.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Some people it might be more.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Again, it really is based on your skin and what you're trying to treat, but overall, you're going to see a difference.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: And, you know, like you said, skincare is a maintenance thing.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: It's long term, it's not an overnight fix.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: And if something is telling you that it's fixing your skin overnight, chances are that's a marketing claim.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: So for us to really see an impact, you know, you're going to want to try it for about four weeks.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: And I think in that point, you're going to really notice the difference.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Of course, in that process leading up to it, are you going to feel softer skin, smoother skin?
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Um, but for a true impact and the best case results that last more long term, it does take a bit more of a commitment.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, a month is usually like, you know, for most topical products, you know, you want to give it at least a month.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: So that makes sense.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, absolutely.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Now, one thing that I think really stands out to me as a consumer is that one of your best sellers is your eye cream.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: And I love that.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: I love seeing that.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: Um, because I think if you can make a really good eye cream, the rest of the stuff is also very, very good.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: At least that's what I've, you know, that's a trend I've noticed with brands.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: So I'd love to talk about the eye cream.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, was this like a um, you know, from the beginning, you knew you wanted to do an eye cream or or was this an addition later on?
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, we talked about it.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: And I know at least for me, in hearing feedback from our consumer, there was a lot of question of, well, can't I just use my moisturizer as eye cream?
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: And we're like, okay, well, that really depends because some moisturizers have ingredients that you actually don't want to use around the eye area and can cause problems like milia, or aren't really going to treat the issues that you have because the skin around the eye is so different.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: So that was one kind of red flag for us of oh, we want to make sure that people are using products that are safe and are really going to give them the results that they want.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: And the second part was looking at our demographic and really tapping into our consumer, you know, again, we're stressed, we're tired, you know, we're busy.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: We wanted to provide a product that addressed those needs, which a lot of times can be, you know, uh tired eyes, you know, looking fatigued, having puffiness.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: And at the time of developing this, I was a new mom.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: I had a very young daughter, um, and I was extremely tired myself.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: I was like, if anyone's gonna use this, I'm the perfect guinea pig for this now.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: Um so I would test it on myself.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: And when I felt like this was great, I would pass it along.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: And obviously Katie was trying it alongside me, and then we'd pass it along to our larger focus group.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: And we got such incredible feedback that they were noticing.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: And in the past, when they were either using their moisturizer or they had bought other products, they weren't seeing those results.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: Again, products were overpromising and under-delivering.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: So for us, by creating this and finding that perfect formulation that truly delivered on the claim, I think that's why you see it now in our bestsellers.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: And people are so I think happy to get that experience that they haven't had from previous products.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: No, I mean, it's it it's a really, really interesting line because I I, you know, when I pe when I hear about people saying, you know, my line is formulated for everybody, right?
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: It's it's a hit or miss, you know.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: I I think that's a very, it's a very big claim for people to make, but I I really believe that, you know, your your line is truly formulated for any skin type because I'm not gonna lie, you know, it when you've used it, um, for everyone listening, when you first try the product, you can instantly tell they're very gentle, they're very, very easy to use, incorporate into your routine.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: And I would love for you guys, maybe Katie, you can comment on this is the idea of formulating things that are just, you know, they're good for everybody, right?
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's this concept, I think, really needs to be um amplified more in the skincare community.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: That, you know, you don't always have to look for products that are like, well, this is good for sensitive skin.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: This is good for this.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: No, you just need to find a good line that's done it right and they're formulating things the right way.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: So I'd love for you guys to comment on that in terms of how you created such a good, such a line that's good for anybody to pick up and try.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: Sure, absolutely.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: So one of the initial conversations that again, Michelle and I were having kind of prior to the start of this project was I had been um hanging out with some girlfriends and we were talking about just our our skincare routine and clean beauty.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: And um, I I was finding that a lot of my friends were we were all feeling the same way in that clean A, what does that mean?
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: And B, why is it so expensive?
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: And so I went back to Michelle and I said, Do these products need to cost as much, or is it all just marketing and is it all fluff?
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: Um, and so one of the initial goals of good faith was to make a line that was accessible.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: We wanted to make the prices, we bring the prices down to um as low as we could and have them be at fair levels.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: And in doing that, we felt like, what's the point of having this line with accessible products that have these phenomenal formulations if they're only gonna be good for and work for a small segment of the population?
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: So pretty pretty early on, we decided the the first products we come out with, we want to be good for all is a big word, but I'm gonna say most skin types.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: Um, and so that that was truly just our goal.
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: And we started with the initial product briefs, we had that in mind.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: We wanted them to work for pretty much everybody from the beginning.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: And from here, I'll be honest, we are working on some new product concepts that are gonna be some of them are more targeted for oily skin, some of them are more targeted for dry skin.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Like they're not all gonna be optimal for every single skin type, but we wanted the initial line of five to really be good for most people.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: And again, like we do hear from some people that say, My skin is so dry, I love your moisturizer, but I do need something heavier.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Or I feel like I have so much dryness.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Um, that like we we there obviously is variation between people and they certain products do need to be supplemented depending.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: But we really want it, we wanted the line to work for all people, and we didn't want it to be something where we had to say, don't use this if.
- 35:12SPEAKER_03: So um we're we're really proud of the five we came out with.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: And I think it just sums back to the fact that that was really a goal from day one.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: I I love that because you know, the reason I really ask this question is because, you know, I I've shared the story before on the show where when I was a teenager, I remember going into a Walgreens or a CVS and picking up clean and clear, right?
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Or like Neutrogena.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: And Neutrogena was no problem.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Clean and clear was a line that was made for everybody, right?
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Supposedly.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Well, I have normal skin, you know, for genuinely what I would consider to be normal skin.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: I it doesn't really lean in any direction.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: And I remember just being so devastated because here was this line that I was using, these products that everyone says, you know, these are mainstream products, and they made my acne so much worse.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: And so when people say this is good for everybody or most skin types, that phrase has really evolved over the years.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: Like it's really, really taken shape.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: And I think your line really encompasses that that new, you know, the positive changes that I always wanted to see as a consumer in terms of just being able to be used by people and it's not gonna exacerbate your skin conditions, it's not gonna, you know, clog up your skin or cause some sort of crazy reaction.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: So I I really admire that, you know, and I have a strong appreciation because I was that young consumer, you know, that that believed that, oh, this is for everybody, clean and clear.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, nope, ruined my absolutely.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I I just want to ask you guys, you know, what's what's next?
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: You know, what's the future uh looking like for good faith?
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: You know, what are you guys uh coming out with, if I can ask?
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we actually have a couple exciting launches in the works right now.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: Um, one of them we're working really closely with our community to develop, and we gave them an opportunity to be part of the process and test something pre-launch, which we're so excited to do and we want to continue to try doing.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Um, and you know, as we mentioned, wanting to become more accessible by being able to get into retail so that the customer can, you know, grab a product when they need it uh directly in store, pick it up, see it, feel it, experience the product.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: And so we have a lot of very exciting things in the works.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, and where it's because we're so new, new opportunities are also popping up um pretty often for us.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: So it's it's an exciting time for the brand and it's a time that we're really um enjoying.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: We actually have another two or three supplement formulas already approved and ready to go.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: But being a new brand, it is um also just a financing game.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: So we're ready and excited to bring those to market as soon as we're able to do so.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: But one of them specifically, we actually already have um on the production line.
- 37:57SPEAKER_03: So that should be coming out in hopefully the next few months.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: Um, I think there's a little bit of delays right now across across the world.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: So we're working on that one.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: But yeah, no, we're very excited.
- 38:08SPEAKER_03: We have, gosh, so many ideas that we just want to share with the world and get feedback on.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: So we're trying to, we're trying not to get ahead of ourselves, we're trying to take it slow and one step at a time.
- 38:18SPEAKER_03: And um, it's hard because we're both really passionate and really competitive and really excited.
- 38:24SPEAKER_03: And patience is not necessarily our strongest point, but um we also don't necessarily always have a choice.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: We have to be patient.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: So um, no, we have so much that we're excited for.
