- 0:00Welcome to the guitar Jet Podcast, where you'll skyrocket your knowledge of theory,
- 0:04techniques and fundamentals for guitar. Hello, and welcome to the guitar Jet Podcast.
- 0:11I'm your host Miles and of course in sday's upisode, we're going to
- 0:14be talking about three notes per string pentatonic scale shapes. And these patterns are
- 0:19easy to memorize and they make the pentatonic scale even more fun to use.
- 0:23And this does have an accompanying freebe on my website and I will link to
- 0:29that in the description below, so make sure you check that out and also
- 0:33check out the guitar Jet Facebook group facebook page and also subscribe to the show
- 0:39so that you don't miss out on set your lessons on theory and techniques for
- 0:43guitar. So let's talk about why you would want to learn the three notes
- 0:48per string pentatonic scale shapes for guitar. And the first reason I would want
- 0:54to learn them is to break out of the pentatonic box. You can break
- 0:57out of typical pentatonic box shapes by extending the range of your pentatonic scale,
- 1:02which is exactly what we're doing with the three notes per string pentatonic scale shape
- 1:07and that will make it easier for you to improvise, and you can do
- 1:14a lot of cool things by breaking out of the typical pedatonic box and combining
- 1:18pentatonic positions. For example, you can start by memorizing shapes one and five
- 1:23of your three notes per string minor pentatonic shape and then move back and forth
- 1:26between them and sets of two strings. So you'd start by playing three notes
- 1:30on the low e string shape five, then three notes on the A string
- 1:34of shape one, and you continue to do this with each set of two
- 1:38strings ina and E, dng gmb B and E. All right, The
- 1:44next reason to use three notes per string pentatonic shapes is epic legato lines.
- 1:49You can construct epic legata lines with these shapes if you have a good grip
- 1:52on using hammer ons and pull offs, and I suggest drawing inspiration from under
- 1:57the radar shred guitar icons like Rick Graham, Sean Lane, Brestein, Scott
- 2:01Stein, Todd Dwayne, and Derek Taylor, and also Darryl Gable has some
- 2:08really cool pentatonic YouTube videos as well. And then the third reason is faster
- 2:15pentatonic licks. So by using three notes per string shapes, you'll incorporate three
- 2:21fingers on single strings rather than two like a typical pentatonic box, which is
- 2:25arguably more efficient for playing fast licks and phrases. And the fourth reason is
- 2:32economy picking. Economy picking is ideal for playing an odd number of notes per
- 2:37string, such as three, which makes it an ideal candidate for playing these
- 2:42three notes per string pentatonic shapes. And the fifth reason, lastly is soloing
- 2:47in lead guitar versatility. So you'll diversify your lead guitar techniques and repertoire by
- 2:54memorizing these shapes, and you won't sound like every other guitar player who's stuck
- 3:00in two notes per string pentatonic limbo. And speaking of two notes per string
- 3:06pentatonic limbo, you'll want to make sure that you've memorized the normal pentatonic box
- 3:10shapes all five positions before you dive into learning three notes per string pentatonic scale
- 3:16shapes. Anyways, that's it for today's episode, so as a recap,
- 3:22the five reasons why you would want to use three notes string pentatonic shapes are
- 3:25Number one, break out of your pentatonic box and combine pentatonic positions. Number
- 3:30two, learn and play epical gotta lines, epic pentatonical goida lines. Number
- 3:36three, play faster pentatonic licks. Number four, implement economy picking into your
- 3:42pentatonic playing, and number five diversify your lead guitar playing and sololy So,
- 3:50thank you so much for listening, and once again, if you like this
- 3:53episode, definitely subscribe to the show and make sure you download your freebie in
