- 1:24towards that hill on Calvary shape us, mold us draw us to
- 1:30your side so that we can be your kingdom people.
- 1:36Alright friends. Let's do it.
- 1:38Let's read together. Luke chapter, 19.
- 1:52Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town.
- 1:56There was a man there named Zacchaeus.
- 1:58He was the chief tax collector in the region and he had become
- 2:02very rich. He tried to get a look at Jesus,
- 2:06but he was too short to see over the crowd.
- 2:08So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore.
- 2:11Fig tree beside the road for Jesus was going to pass that way
- 2:15when Jesus came by. He looked up at Circus and
- 2:19called him by name Zacchaeus. He said, quick come down.
- 2:24I must be a guest in your home today.
- 2:27Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in
- 2:31great excitement and joy. But the people were displeased,
- 2:36he has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner, they grumbled.
- 2:41Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said I will
- 2:46give half my wealth to the poor Lord and if I have cheated
- 2:50people in their Axes. I will give them back four times
- 2:54as much. Jesus responded salvation has
- 2:58come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be
- 3:02a true son of Abraham for the son of man came to seek and save
- 3:08those who are lost The crowd was listening to everything Jesus
- 3:13said, and because he was nearing Jerusalem, he told them a story
- 3:17to correct the impression that the kingdom of God would begin
- 3:20right away. He said a nobleman was called
- 3:24away to a distant Empire to be crowned King and then return
- 3:29before he left, he called together ten of his servants and
- 3:33divided among them. 10 pounds of silver saying investors for me,
- 3:38while I'm gone. But his people hated him and
- 3:42sent a delegation after him to say, we do not want him to be
- 3:46our King. After he was crowned King, he
- 3:50returned and called in the servants to whom he had given
- 3:53the money. He wanted to find out what their
- 3:55profits were the first servant reported master I invested your
- 4:01money and made 10 times the original amount.
- 4:04Well done. The king exclaimed.
- 4:07You are a good servant. You have been faithful with the
- 4:10little line trusted you. So you will be governor of 10
- 4:14cities as your reward. The next servant reported master
- 4:19I invested your money and made five times the original amount.
- 4:24Well done. The king said you will be
- 4:27Governor over five cities but the third servant brought back
- 4:32only the original amount of money and said, master I hid
- 4:37your money and kept it safe. I was afraid because you are a
- 4:41hard man to deal with taking what isn't yours and harvesting.
- 4:45Crops you didn't plant You Wicked.
- 4:48Servant the king roared, your own words, condemn.
- 4:52You, if you knew that I'm a hard man who takes what isn't mine
- 4:57and harvests crops, I didn't plant, why didn't you deposit my
- 5:01money in the bank? At least, I could have gotten
- 5:03some interest on it. Then turning to the other
- 5:07standing nearby, the king ordered, take the money from
- 5:10this servant and give it to the one who has 10 pounds.
- 5:15But Master, they said, Said he already has 10 pounds.
- 5:19Yes, the king replied. And to those who use, well, what
- 5:23they are given even more will be given, but from those who do
- 5:28nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
- 5:32And as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to be
- 5:36their King, bring them in and execute them right here in front
- 5:40of me. After telling this story, Jesus
- 5:45went on towards Jerusalem, walking ahead of his disciples
- 5:49as he came to the towns of bethphage and Bethany on the
- 5:53Mount of Olives. He sent two disciples ahead.
- 5:57Go into that. Village over there.
- 5:59He told him, as you enter it. You will see a young donkey
- 6:03tied, there that no one has ever ridden.
- 6:06I'm tired and bring it here. If anyone asks, why are you
- 6:10untying that colt? Just say the Lord needs it?
- 6:15So they went and found the cult, just as Jesus had said and sure
- 6:19enough as they were untying it the owners, ask them?
- 6:22Why are you untying that colt and the disciples simply
- 6:26replied? The Lord needs it.
- 6:29So they brought the Colt to Jesus and threw their garments
- 6:32over it for him to ride on as he rode along the crowd spread out
- 6:37their garments on the road ahead of him when they reached the
- 6:41place where the roads started down the Mount of Olives.
- 6:44All All of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked
- 6:47along, praising God. For all the wonderful Miracles
- 6:51they had seen blessings on the king, who comes in the name of
- 6:55the Lord peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven.
- 7:01But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, teacher rebuke
- 7:05your followers for saying, things like that, he replied.
- 7:10If they kept quiet the stones along the road would burst into
- 7:14cheers. but as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city
- 7:19ahead, he began to weep How I wish today that you of all
- 7:25people would understand the way to peace.
- 7:29But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes
- 7:34before long, your enemies will build ramparts against your
- 7:38walls, and encircle you and close in, on you, from every
- 7:43side, they will crush you into the ground and your children
- 7:47with you. Your enemies will not leave a
- 7:50single Stone in place because you I did not recognize it when
- 7:54God visited you. Then Jesus entered the temple
- 8:00and began to drive out the people selling animals for
- 8:02sacrifices. He said to them the scriptures
- 8:06declare, my temple will be a House of Prayer but you have
- 8:11turned it into a den of Thieves. after that he taught daily in
- 8:17the temple, but the leading priests the teachers of
- 8:20religious law, and the other leaders of the people began
- 8:23planning, how to kill him, but they could think of nothing
- 8:27because all the people hung on every word, he said,
- 8:42Jesus. We see such decisiveness in
- 8:46these last days of your life. You had such clarity about what
- 8:50your mission was. You always have such clarity
- 8:54about the best way forward about what needs to happen to bring
- 8:59your kingdom to fruition Jesus. We don't know.
- 9:04Our vision is dull, and our eyes may as well be covered.
- 9:07We just don't know. And even if we do we just don't
- 9:13understand. So Jesus.
- 9:16I pray that you would give us Clarity when your kingdom
- 9:20demands, something of us convict us powerfully.
- 9:24That we would know which way to turn toward you.
- 9:29That we would have the courage to make that turn and that we
- 9:33would have your joy in our hearts as we declare your words
- 9:38or live out your message. This week as we approach that
- 9:43cross. As we move toward Good, Friday
- 9:45and Easter beyond that. Your story saturate every hour
- 9:49of our day. I love you.
- 9:52We are humbled by your sacrifice for us and we pray all of this
- 9:56in your name. My man.
