Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to Seattle Kraken Hockey on the Global Credit Union
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kraken Audio Network. Brought to you by Coors Light, your
- 0:11Speaker 1: Western Washington Toyota dealers, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, Muckleshoot Casino Resort,
- 0:17Speaker 1: by Liuna, Symetra, and by McDonald's.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Despite a letdown on Saturday in South Florida, the Seattle
- 0:26Speaker 2: Kraken returned to the deep following a successful road trip
- 0:30Speaker 2: that saw the Kraken take seven out of a possible
- 0:33Speaker 2: 10 points.
- 0:34Speaker 3: The bottom six forward.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Group led the way for the Seattle Kraken offensively with
- 0:39Speaker 2: the fourth line garnering 16 points across the five games,
- 0:43Speaker 2: including four goals and two helpers.
- 0:45Speaker 4: From Freddy Gaudreau.
- 0:46Speaker 5: Tonight, two weeks removed.
- 0:48Speaker 2: From their last game at home, Seattle returns to Climate
- 0:52Speaker 2: Pledge Arena to begin a four-game homestand, welcoming in the
- 0:56Speaker 2: Detroit Red Wings, looking for a repeat performance of their
- 0:59Speaker 2: matchup in Motown 11 days ago.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Finally, welcome back inside of Climate Pledge Arena alongside Big
- 1:09Speaker 2: Al Koniski.
- 1:10Speaker 4: I am Everett Fitzhugh.
- 1:11Speaker 2: This is Seattle Kraken Hockey on the Global Credit Union
- 1:15Speaker 2: Kraken Audio Network. You are listening to the pregame show
- 1:17Speaker 2: served up by Frostbrew Coors Light.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Choose chill.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Well, partner, never mind that little 8-3 hiccup on Saturday
- 1:26Speaker 2: down in South Florida against the Panthers. The Seattle Kraken
- 1:29Speaker 2: return home going 3-1-1 on that five-game road trip. The
- 1:34Speaker 2: bottom six forward group led the way, and the Kraken
- 1:37Speaker 2: come back home in a pretty good spot, third place
- 1:40Speaker 2: in the Pacific, and a ton of confidence in tow.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Yeah, lots of.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Things learned over that road trip. You know, you saw
- 1:46Speaker 6: some adversity at the end, though. And I think you
- 1:48Speaker 6: learn from adversity and how this team can bounce back
- 1:51Speaker 6: from setbacks is going to be a real key to
- 1:54Speaker 6: how the rest of this season goes. And I think
- 1:55Speaker 6: that's what we're going to see here tonight.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Kraken picked up wins on that road trip. Three wins
- 1:59Speaker 2: in a row in Detroit, in Philadelphia, and in our
- 2:02Speaker 2: nation's capital, Washington, D.C. You fall in overtime to Tampa
- 2:06Speaker 2: in a hard-fought game. And then maybe some fatigue settling in.
- 2:10Speaker 4: That final game in South Florida, 8-3 loss to the Panthers.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Two hat-tricks.
- 2:14Speaker 2: In that game, one from Carter Verhage and Sam Bennett,
- 2:19Speaker 2: Florida Panthers first team in NHL history with three games
- 2:23Speaker 2: in a row with a natural hat trick. So that's
- 2:26Speaker 2: something the Kraken unfortunately are part of historically, but partner
- 2:30Speaker 2: You mentioned it. You're coming back home the last two games.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Maybe some cause for some concern.
- 2:35Speaker 4: But overall, the.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Kraken have beaten the teams that they're supposed to beat,
- 2:39Speaker 2: including a big 6-2 win against the Red.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Wings a couple of weeks ago.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:43Speaker 6: And that win carries a little bit of confidence into tonight.
- 2:46Speaker 6: But make no mistake, this Red Wings team is coming into...
- 2:50Speaker 6: Climate Pledge with a little bit of confidence. They've got
- 2:52Speaker 6: wins recently against Philadelphia and San Jose. San Jose's no slouch,
- 2:57Speaker 6: so you know they're a different team than what the
- 2:59Speaker 6: Kraken saw two weeks ago.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Well, and since that 6-3 loss to the Seattle Kraken
- 3:03Speaker 2: as we go across the red line, they are 2-0-2
- 3:06Speaker 2: in their.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Last four games.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Each of their goals has been decided by, or their games, rather,
- 3:11Speaker 2: have been decided by a single goal where they've been struggling.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Only one for 13 on the power play. This is
- 3:19Speaker 2: a Red Wings team. The expectations coming in weren't that high.
- 3:22Speaker 2: But like you mentioned, partner, in recent games, they have
- 3:25Speaker 2: been playing a lot better.
- 3:26Speaker 6: Yeah, they absolutely have. And they've got the talent to
- 3:28Speaker 6: play better as well. You know, we talk about DeBrinckit.
- 3:30Speaker 6: We talk about Lucas Raymond. You know, the goaltending was
- 3:34Speaker 6: suspect in Detroit. We might see different goaltending here tonight
- 3:37Speaker 6: as well. But I think you're right. I think special
- 3:39Speaker 6: teams is where Seattle can take advantage. If they get
- 3:42Speaker 6: their power play clicking... they could take advantage of this
- 3:45Speaker 6: penalty kill for Detroit.
- 3:46Speaker 2: After playing seven of their first nine games on the road,
- 3:50Speaker 2: the Seattle Kraken now return home for six of their
- 3:54Speaker 2: next seven. If you take away the two games in Finland,
- 3:58Speaker 2: Carolina and Carolina, the Seattle Kraken have just three true
- 4:03Speaker 2: road games Calgary, San Jose, and Edmonton between now and
- 4:09Speaker 2: December 1st. So plenty of time for the Kraken to
- 4:12Speaker 2: get some home cooking. Mike Benton ready to serve up
- 4:14Speaker 2: some more of this pregame show.

- 7:35Speaker 11: for the first time in what feels like a while.
- 7:36Speaker 11: Mike Benton with you, back by the Coors Light landing
- 7:38Speaker 11: in Section 20 with a crack in. are finally home,
- 7:41Speaker 11: opening a four-game homestand at 5-3-1. That's their record so
- 7:45Speaker 11: far at 11 points, holding a 5-3-3 all-time record against
- 7:50Speaker 11: the Red Wings. They beat them 11 days ago and
- 7:53Speaker 11: looking to run the table in this series for the
- 7:56Speaker 11: first time since the 2022 and 23 season. The Red
- 8:00Speaker 11: Wings coming in, their record a little more healed up
- 8:02Speaker 11: right now than since the last time At 3-3 and
- 8:05Speaker 11: 2 and 8 points, they're opening a four-game road trip.
- 8:09Speaker 11: So polar opposites here. The Kraken catching up for their
- 8:12Speaker 11: home schedule. The Red Wings on the road. Detroit will
- 8:16Speaker 11: visit here, then Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. Their only previous
- 8:21Speaker 11: road game, a shootout loss at Montreal 10 days ago. Well,
- 8:25Speaker 11: for the Kraken, the road trip ending Saturday in Florida,
- 8:28Speaker 11: where early on, matters appear to be going in the
- 8:32Speaker 11: right direction.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Here comes Berkley Catton. Off a tip from Shane Wright.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Katton in front. Shane Wright tips it in. And they score.
- 8:40Speaker 4: What a play. Berkeley Katton. On the right side, threw
- 8:44Speaker 4: it toward the net.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Shane Wright didn't stop going hard to the goal, redirects
- 8:49Speaker 2: it in, and the Florida Panthers are now tied 1-1.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Kraken have evened the game up.
- 8:54Speaker 6: We've talked a lot about this line and the offense
- 8:56Speaker 6: that they can generate, and it's Ryan Winterton down the
- 8:59Speaker 6: left side that gets that puck over to Berkley Catton.
- 9:02Speaker 6: Berkley Catton with a beautiful backhand pass to the middle
- 9:05Speaker 6: of the ice that Shane Wright just redirects on net
- 9:09Speaker 6: and finds the top shelf glove side on Markstrom. This
- 9:12Speaker 6: game's tied at 1.
- 9:13Speaker 11: Game looked pretty good at that point with a crack
- 9:15Speaker 11: in evening. The score at 454, period one. Shane Wright
- 9:18Speaker 11: from Berkeley, Catton, and Kapokako. But then the Panthers, who
- 9:22Speaker 11: have plenty of big game experience and plenty of heaviness
- 9:26Speaker 11: on their roster.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Hit the proverbial gas.
- 9:29Speaker 11: They scored five unanswered goals, and by the end of it,
- 9:32Speaker 11: it was Florida eight cracking three. Final score where the
- 9:35Speaker 11: Panthers got not one, but two hat tricks, and in
- 9:38Speaker 11: historical fashion. First off, it was Carter Verhage getting a
- 9:41Speaker 11: natural hat trick, marking the third straight game a team
- 9:45Speaker 11: had a player get a natural hat trick. Nobody else
- 9:48Speaker 11: did that previously in NHL history. Sam Bennett also got one,
- 9:52Speaker 11: and for the first time in Panthers history, They had
- 9:55Speaker 11: two hat tricks in one game by the end of it.
- 9:57Speaker 11: And for the record, the Kraken, though, getting it. offense
- 10:00Speaker 11: from once again their bottom six in right and Freddie
- 10:04Speaker 11: Gaudreau plus Riker Evans also chipping in but Joey Decor
- 10:07Speaker 11: had to survive a rough one with 31 saves on
- 10:10Speaker 11: 38 shots playing all the way by the end of
- 10:14Speaker 11: it so The Kraken finishing that road trip seven points
- 10:17Speaker 11: out of a possible ten. And Berkley Catton said earlier
- 10:20Speaker 11: today the mood's been reset for the Kraken after that
- 10:23Speaker 11: long road trip.
- 10:24Speaker 5: It's exciting.
- 10:25Speaker 12: I think a little bit of a sour taste in
- 10:27Speaker 12: our mouth maybe from the last game.
- 10:29Speaker 5: But just use that as fuel and be ready to
- 10:31Speaker 5: go like I know we will.
- 10:33Speaker 11: So the Kraken trying to knock off the sour taste
- 10:35Speaker 11: out of their mouths and begin this homestand on renewed terms.
- 10:39Speaker 11: That effectively is the meaning of tonight's game. It will
- 10:42Speaker 11: be just their third home game for this entire season.
- 10:46Speaker 11: It is their first home game in two weeks, and
- 10:48Speaker 11: they're going to see a ton of home ice coming
- 10:50Speaker 11: up here on this schedule. Six of their next seven
- 10:53Speaker 11: games before their trip to Finland will be played here
- 10:56Speaker 11: in Climate Pledge Arena. Aside from that trip, the Kraken
- 11:00Speaker 11: will have no plane ride longer than about roughly 90
- 11:02Speaker 11: minutes And that's coming until December 15th and 20th on
- 11:07Speaker 11: a road trip where they go through Nashville, Columbus, Pittsburgh,
- 11:09Speaker 11: and Colorado. And up until that point, you take out Finland.
- 11:12Speaker 11: 15 of the next 20 games will be at home.
- 11:15Speaker 11: 20 of 22 will have light to very light travel.
- 11:19Speaker 11: So for the Kraken, the onus here is make up
- 11:22Speaker 11: points at home where last year they went 19, 17,
- 11:24Speaker 11: and 5 points.
- 11:27Speaker 4: On home ice.
- 11:28Speaker 11: Against Detroit, this matchup tends to be a very high
- 11:30Speaker 11: scoring affair. They have faced off 11 times. Every time,
- 11:34Speaker 11: the winning team has scored four goals or more. The
- 11:38Speaker 11: Kraken power play also kicking it into gear. They went
- 11:41Speaker 11: one for three last matchup. They're eight for 32 in
- 11:44Speaker 11: this series. But Detroit, their power play all time, 13
- 11:46Speaker 11: of 32 at 40%. So they have weapons to really
- 11:48Speaker 11: put the hurt on you. Last matchup happening just 11
- 11:54Speaker 11: days ago, as we said, the Kraken won 6-3. They
- 11:57Speaker 11: scored four goals in that second period. Freddie Gaudreau walked
- 12:01Speaker 11: away out of the building in Detroit with a two-goal game.
- 12:03Speaker 11: Ben Myers had a three-point game. All that coming in
- 12:06Speaker 11: one period alone. And the fourth line, they were magical.
- 12:10Speaker 11: combining for seven points in that contest. Could there be
- 12:14Speaker 11: changes afoot here for the Kraken tonight in their lineup?
- 12:18Speaker 11: We'll wait and see, but as far as up front,
- 12:20Speaker 11: if something told us here from practice, it could be
- 12:23Speaker 11: Jordan Eberle switching things up with Mackie Samuskevich and Eberle
- 12:26Speaker 11: going to Beneers' line and playing with Jared McCann and Beneers. Samuskevich...
- 12:32Speaker 11: If Monday told us something from their lineup, he could
- 12:34Speaker 11: go with Chandler Stevenson, McMahon on the left wing, Stevenson
- 12:38Speaker 11: in the middle, and Sam Miskevich as well on the
- 12:40Speaker 11: right wing. Effectively, no changes in the bottom six. But
- 12:44Speaker 11: as far as changes of foot, we'll keep our eye
- 12:46Speaker 11: on the back end. Brandon Montour did appear. On ice
- 12:50Speaker 11: for morning skate, it was optional, but Lane Lambert calling
- 12:53Speaker 11: him a game-time decision. He did miss the game against Florida.
- 12:56Speaker 11: Lower body injury was day-to-day, so if he plays, he's
- 13:00Speaker 11: an option maybe to go back with Riker Evans on defense,
- 13:03Speaker 11: and if he can't go, possible options are K.O. Fleury
- 13:06Speaker 11: or Ty Nelson, who awaits his NHL debut right now
- 13:10Speaker 11: as a call-up. Those two right-shot defensemen also linger on
- 13:14Speaker 11: this roster. For the Kraken, another big question, can they
- 13:17Speaker 11: transfer their depth scoring from the road to home? They
- 13:20Speaker 11: have 19 goals scored right now from that trip from
- 13:23Speaker 11: 14 different players, three times. The Kraken also scoring the
- 13:27Speaker 11: first goal of the game. Hilleen scores on that trip,
- 13:30Speaker 11: top three, all within that fourth line. Gaudreau, Ryan Winterton,
- 13:36Speaker 11: Ben Myers, all with five points apiece. Kraken storylines first
- 13:40Speaker 11: off begin with top six production. Matty Beneers and Chandler Stevenson,
- 13:43Speaker 11: that line is Had a combined seven goals last five
- 13:46Speaker 11: games for that top six, and all out of those
- 13:49Speaker 11: six players, you're looking for a little bit more offense maybe.
- 13:52Speaker 11: So the shakeup happening right now on the right wing.
- 13:55Speaker 11: We'll see if they can inject some more offense into
- 13:57Speaker 11: Jordan Eberle's game, who's got just one goal in his
- 13:59Speaker 11: last six. Bobby McMahon, one goal in his last six games.
- 14:03Speaker 11: Chandler Stephenson's been off the board since opening day, but
- 14:06Speaker 11: yet Jared McCandish leading the score against the Red Wings,
- 14:08Speaker 11: so we'll see if he can factor in on this one.
- 14:11Speaker 11: Eight points in nine games, plus also Besides this season,
- 14:14Speaker 11: he owns 11 points, last nine matchups against the Red Wings.
- 14:19Speaker 11: Second story line, it is Berkeley Catton and Freddie Gaudreau
- 14:22Speaker 11: and their impact amidst the bottom six. Catton comes off
- 14:25Speaker 11: a road trip where he had four points in five games,
- 14:28Speaker 11: and Gaudreau right now is your leading Kraken goal scorer
- 14:31Speaker 11: with five goals in the first nine games of this
- 14:34Speaker 11: young NHL season. More on Gaudreau, who said that the
- 14:38Speaker 11: identity for the Kraken is pretty solid with their fourth
- 14:40Speaker 11: line and how they're playing.
- 14:42Speaker 13: Well, I think we're all three honest players. We try
- 14:48Speaker 13: to take care of the puck in both hands, and
- 14:52Speaker 13: we appreciate that part of hockey, of being responsible and
- 14:55Speaker 13: playing the solid game first, and it's always fun to
- 14:58Speaker 13: get rewarded after that.
- 15:00Speaker 11: A simple and a straight line game is what is
- 15:02Speaker 11: working right now for Gaudreau, Winterton, and Myers. And back
- 15:05Speaker 11: to Catton's line. Catton, a player who, of course, carries
- 15:08Speaker 11: plenty of skill and vision. He mentioned also that there's
- 15:11Speaker 11: been an increase in speed, and agreeing with that, he
- 15:13Speaker 11: said how big the summer was in getting his speed
- 15:16Speaker 11: to the next level.
- 15:18Speaker 5: It was big.
- 15:19Speaker 12: You know, it changed a couple little things, and, you know,
- 15:22Speaker 12: worked with Jake and Nate in the offseason that did
- 15:25Speaker 12: their program in the summer. And, you know, it was
- 15:28Speaker 12: basically all just about fast twitch muscles getting a little faster, and,
- 15:33Speaker 12: you know, I think also into that is a little
- 15:35Speaker 12: bit of confidence, too, you know.
- 15:37Speaker 5: I'm just doing that way, but it's been good.
- 15:40Speaker 11: So he's a player that brings speed and certainly fits
- 15:42Speaker 11: what the Kraken want to do as far as playing
- 15:45Speaker 11: with pace. Another player is also, of course, Mackie Samaskevich,
- 15:48Speaker 11: who we mentioned may be switching lines here for tonight.
- 15:51Speaker 11: We caught up with him in the Kraken dressing room one-on-one,
- 15:54Speaker 11: and he shared more on what the Kraken have learned
- 15:57Speaker 11: from this past road trip and more.
- 16:00Speaker 14: Getting seven points out of ten, despite what happened on Saturday,
- 16:02Speaker 14: what do you think that this team learned more about
- 16:04Speaker 14: each other heading into this home stand?
- 16:06Speaker 15: I think that we learned that we're a good team.
- 16:09Speaker 15: We were coming off that last one at home. We
- 16:12Speaker 15: definitely learned a lot in that game and then we
- 16:15Speaker 15: came into this road trip wanting to have a good
- 16:18Speaker 15: one and we learned we could play with these teams
- 16:22Speaker 15: and that's a good feeling. Obviously it didn't end the
- 16:25Speaker 15: way that we wanted to but I think even when
- 16:29Speaker 15: you lose like that you learn way more than if
- 16:32Speaker 15: you win by that much. I think down the line,
- 16:37Speaker 15: it'd be super helpful.
- 16:38Speaker 14: You've been a part of that dressing room on the
- 16:40Speaker 14: other side of course. You know what those guys are
- 16:41Speaker 14: all about. What do you think that was a big
- 16:44Speaker 14: source of a reminder as far as what it takes
- 16:46Speaker 14: to compete no matter what the score is?
- 16:48Speaker 15: Yeah, I think the biggest thing is they play to
- 16:54Speaker 15: their structure and they stick to it. I think in
- 16:56Speaker 15: that game we got down early and then maybe tried
- 17:00Speaker 15: to do too much and maybe got off script a
- 17:03Speaker 15: little bit more, but they're so good at sticking to
- 17:07Speaker 15: their structure. They know it works, and I think we
- 17:09Speaker 15: can take that for our.
- 17:10Speaker 7: Group for sure.
- 17:11Speaker 14: It's often said the hockey world is a small world,
- 17:13Speaker 14: so what did it mean to have a little bit
- 17:15Speaker 14: of a warm reception for you, seeing that on the
- 17:17Speaker 14: video board?
- 17:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it was nice.
- 17:19Speaker 16: Good feeling.
- 17:21Speaker 15: Nice to see old friends, and even the day before,
- 17:25Speaker 15: just going out to dinner with the guys you played
- 17:27Speaker 15: with was nice, and A lot of great memories, people
- 17:31Speaker 15: that are great.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Definitely was a good feeling.
- 17:35Speaker 11: Mackie Samuskevis getting his return trip out of the way
- 17:37Speaker 11: to Florida and trying to get back on the board.
- 17:40Speaker 11: He's got right now no goals last four games, and
- 17:43Speaker 11: his last one came against, you guessed it, the Red
- 17:46Speaker 11: Wings back on October 9th as Mackie Samuskevis joining us
- 17:49Speaker 11: one-on-one from the Kraken dressing room.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Third and final.
- 17:52Speaker 11: Storyline, Phillip Grubauer going to be a net looking like
- 17:55Speaker 11: Last time out against Detroit, he beat them with a
- 17:57Speaker 11: spectacular 37 save effort on 40 shots for his first
- 18:00Speaker 11: win of the year. And against the Red Wings, he's
- 18:03Speaker 11: 5-1-1 for his career, owning a 9-1-9 save percentage. We'll
- 18:07Speaker 11: come back in a bit and take a look next
- 18:09Speaker 11: at the Red Wings. You're listening to the Global Credit

- 21:00Speaker 11: in Section 20. And time now for a look at Detroit,
- 21:04Speaker 11: where this guy has been at the forefront of their attack.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Down low, backhand drive by Dabrink.
- 21:10Speaker 18: And he scores!
- 21:11Speaker 4: There's goal number 40.
- 21:13Speaker 11: A quick backhander by Alex Debrinkit and it's 1-0 Detroit.
- 21:18Speaker 4: That call courtesy Ken Cal on WXYT.
- 21:21Speaker 11: 97-1 the ticket in Detroit and Alex Debrinkit who just
- 21:25Speaker 11: comes off a contract extension already off to a pretty
- 21:28Speaker 11: healthy start but that's trying to help balance a Red
- 21:31Speaker 11: Wings season that began with plenty of turmoil extending from
- 21:34Speaker 11: the offseason where they went through a change in their
- 21:37Speaker 11: front office. Additionally, Dylan Larkin requesting a trade. Simon Edmondson
- 21:42Speaker 11: right now on a contract standoff. And the hope is
- 21:44Speaker 11: for the Red Wings on their side is that yet
- 21:48Speaker 11: there is something solved sooner here than later as far
- 21:50Speaker 11: as A, Larkin, and B, Edmondson.
- 21:53Speaker 4: They began the year 1-3, but since then 2-0-2. And
- 21:57Speaker 4: they're facing a big.
- 21:58Speaker 11: Test right now, beginning a four-game road trip after beginning
- 22:01Speaker 11: seven of the first eight games at home.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Their offense has been on the upswing.
- 22:05Speaker 11: Detroit scoring 10 goals last three games, and against the Kraken,
- 22:09Speaker 11: poured on 40 shots on net, so they made life
- 22:11Speaker 11: certainly difficult for Philip Grubauer and their defense. Also, they're
- 22:15Speaker 11: a team that is certainly not out of it by
- 22:17Speaker 11: any stretch of the imagination. Each of the Red Wings'
- 22:20Speaker 11: three wins this season have come from behind fashion. The
- 22:24Speaker 11: only time that they did that in each of their
- 22:26Speaker 11: first four wins of a season was 0-1-0-2 when they
- 22:30Speaker 11: had a loaded team Steve Iserman, Sergei Fedorov, Nicholas Lidstrom,
- 22:35Speaker 11: the list goes on and on. Yeah, defense may be
- 22:37Speaker 11: a bit inconsistent out of the gate. They have 16
- 22:40Speaker 11: goals allowed over the last five games, but found a
- 22:43Speaker 11: way to come back and beat Detroit, or beat San
- 22:46Speaker 11: Jose last time out. Detroit won 4-3 in a shootout
- 22:49Speaker 11: last Saturday. Lucas Raymond had the only goal in a shootout.
- 22:52Speaker 11: Alex DeBrinckit, who you just heard from as far as
- 22:55Speaker 11: what he did recently, scored with 1.33 remaining at forcing
- 22:58Speaker 11: overtime where the Red Wings laid the body in. and
- 23:01Speaker 11: had the advantage in hits at 28-17. I'm going to
- 23:05Speaker 11: add here to today, their head coach Todd McClellan shared
- 23:08Speaker 11: his thoughts on what to expect in this second matchup
- 23:12Speaker 11: coming in 11 days.
- 23:14Speaker 19: When you play a team this quick, you put a
- 23:17Speaker 19: lot into it. There are certain things that they're trying
- 23:20Speaker 19: to do against us and vice versa, but a lot
- 23:24Speaker 19: of it is things that we need.
- 23:25Speaker 9: To polish up on.
- 23:26Speaker 19: They're playing a real good, solid game right now, scoring
- 23:29Speaker 19: a lot 5-5. and for us to have any type
- 23:33Speaker 19: of success, we're going to have to prevent that and
- 23:37Speaker 19: do a lot better job of that than we did
- 23:39Speaker 19: in Detroit.
- 23:40Speaker 11: So besides Edmondson out right now with that contract issue,
- 23:44Speaker 11: JT Compton reportedly will not play undisclosed injury, yet he
- 23:47Speaker 11: is on the trip. Marco Casper also missing out of
- 23:50Speaker 11: action with an upper body ailment.
- 23:52Speaker 4: He stands week to week.
- 23:54Speaker 11: Red Wing storylines first up again with Dylan Larkin's impact,
- 23:57Speaker 11: and ever since he's scored in Detroit, His return back
- 23:59Speaker 11: to the lineup. He's got just one goal in his
- 24:01Speaker 11: last six games, but has been a factor in this
- 24:04Speaker 11: matchup head-to-head, owning 13 points in 11 games against the
- 24:07Speaker 11: Kraken all time and looking like he'll escape between Victor
- 24:11Speaker 11: Arvidson and Lucas Raymond. Secondly, it is handling Alex DeBrinckit,
- 24:15Speaker 11: who is again on milestone watch, just like the last
- 24:18Speaker 11: time these two teams met. This evening, he is one
- 24:21Speaker 11: goal away from. 300 in his NHL career, so the
- 24:24Speaker 11: Kraken trying to stop that. And against the Kraken, he
- 24:27Speaker 11: owns 11 points in 12 games while riding an eight-game
- 24:30Speaker 11: point streak as well in this head-to-head matchup. Daniil Tarasov
- 24:35Speaker 11: will take the net here tonight for the Red Wings
- 24:37Speaker 11: in four games against the Kraken. It's a rough ride
- 24:39Speaker 11: for him numbers-wise. 0-3 record with an 8-3 OSA percentage.
- 24:43Speaker 11: He also came in relief of John Gibson when these
- 24:47Speaker 11: two teams met back on October 9th as he stopped
- 24:50Speaker 11: eight out of nine. We'll pause after this. Everett, who's upstairs. Al,
- 24:55Speaker 11: who's between the benches. Have your three keys. Coming up,

- 26:09Speaker 20: But remember, betting should stay part of the fun, not

- 27:01Speaker 10: You're listening to Seattle Kraken Hockey on the Kraken Audio Network.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Kraken back home after two weeks on the road, five
- 27:08Speaker 2: games in ten days. A 3-1-1 record, although they are 0-1-1.
- 27:14Speaker 2: in their last two, so trying to snap out of
- 27:18Speaker 2: a mini-slide. Pre-game show served up by Frost Brew Coors
- 27:21Speaker 2: Light continues.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Everett Fitzhugh upstairs.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Big Al Kaniski meters away, actually centimeters away.
- 27:28Speaker 5: A lot of them.
- 27:29Speaker 2: A lot of them.
- 27:29Speaker 5: A lot of centimeters.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Yeah, down on the bench, between the benches today. Second
- 27:34Speaker 2: to 14 times. We're going to get big out down there.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Partner Kraken, 6-3 winners over the Red Wings, too, about
- 27:40Speaker 2: a week and a half ago in Detroit. Kraken need
- 27:44Speaker 2: to find a way to get back in the win
- 27:45Speaker 2: column here tonight. Some tough games in Tampa. Tough game
- 27:48Speaker 2: in Florida, 8-3. They were blown out of the building.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Cannot have that happen here tonight. What does Seattle need
- 27:54Speaker 2: to do? to get two points and get back in
- 27:56Speaker 2: the win column.
- 27:57Speaker 5: Well, first of all, they've got to start fast. Yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 5: the Kraken are back.
- 28:00Speaker 6: In the deep opening a four-game home stand, and there's
- 28:03Speaker 6: no time for leisurely strolls around the Space Needle. Detroit
- 28:06Speaker 6: comes to town with enough firepower to turn a slow
- 28:09Speaker 6: start into a five-alarm fire, so Seattle needs to hit
- 28:12Speaker 6: the gas from the opening face-off. Get pucks deep, get
- 28:15Speaker 6: bodies on the forecheck, and make the Red Wings feel
- 28:17Speaker 6: like they've walked into a buzzsaw wearing water wings. Set
- 28:21Speaker 6: the tone early, get the crowd roaring, and make Detroit
- 28:24Speaker 6: wonder if they left their game back in the hotel. Secondly,
- 28:28Speaker 6: win the Debrinkit battle. Alex Debrinkit is a scoring threat
- 28:31Speaker 6: who can turn a sliver of daylight into a puck
- 28:34Speaker 6: in the back of the net faster than a teenager
- 28:36Speaker 6: can empty your wallet. You give him time and space,
- 28:39Speaker 6: and he'll make you pay the bill with interest.
- 28:42Speaker 5: The Kraken need tight.
- 28:43Speaker 6: Gaps, sticks in passing lanes, and a commitment to making
- 28:47Speaker 6: the night about as comfortable as juggling porcupines. Keep him
- 28:50Speaker 6: away from the prime scoring areas, stay connected defensively, and
- 28:54Speaker 6: make sure the cat spends more time chasing the puck
- 28:58Speaker 6: than chasing the score sheet. And then third, pressure Detroit's
- 29:01Speaker 6: penalty kill. If Seattle gets the man advantage, it's time
- 29:04Speaker 6: to turn the power play into an offensive emergency. Move
- 29:07Speaker 6: the puck quickly, attack shooting lanes, and get traffic in
- 29:10Speaker 6: front of the net because a goalie with a clean
- 29:12Speaker 6: look is about as bothered as a cat on the couch.
- 29:15Speaker 6: The Kraken can't settle for perimeter passing. It looks like
- 29:18Speaker 6: a game of keep away at a family picnic. Get
- 29:20Speaker 6: pucks to the net, hunt rebounds, and make the Red
- 29:23Speaker 6: Wings pay for every trip to the penalty box. Bottom
- 29:26Speaker 6: line here is the Kraken are home for four games,
- 29:28Speaker 6: and they need to make the deep, a place where
- 29:30Speaker 6: Detroit feels like they've wandered into a shark tank wearing
- 29:34Speaker 6: a steak suit. Start fast, keep the brinket on a
- 29:37Speaker 6: short leash, and make Detroit's penalty kill work harder than
- 29:40Speaker 6: a rookie carrying equipment bags. No passengers, no sightseeing, and
- 29:43Speaker 6: absolutely no free real estate.
- 29:45Speaker 5: In the defensive zone. It's time to defend the home ice.
- 29:48Speaker 6: Set the tone for this homestand and send the Red
- 29:51Speaker 6: Wings flying back to Detroit with a few feathers missing.
- 29:54Speaker 2: You know, I got a four-year-old, so he doesn't quite
- 29:57Speaker 2: have his fingers in my wallet just yet, but I'm
- 29:59Speaker 2: shredding that day when it comes.
- 30:01Speaker 5: Or a steak suit.
- 30:01Speaker 4: Or a steak suit, exactly.
- 30:03Speaker 2: You talk about Kraken getting pucks deep. They got to
- 30:05Speaker 2: get pucks on net as well.
- 30:07Speaker 7: Yes, yes.
- 30:07Speaker 2: The Red Wings are fifth in the NHL with 62
- 30:11Speaker 2: shot attempts on average, 62.3%. shot attempts per game. They're
- 30:15Speaker 2: fourth in the league out shooting teams, 244, 216. The
- 30:19Speaker 2: Kraken have been a team that hasn't been getting a
- 30:22Speaker 2: ton of shots onto the net.
- 30:24Speaker 4: In recent games.
- 30:25Speaker 2: It's been working somewhat, but shot generation, shot volume has
- 30:30Speaker 2: to also be maybe your fourth key tonight.
- 30:32Speaker 6: It absolutely has to be because it's easy to say, hey,
- 30:35Speaker 6: the Kraken have been efficient. They're putting up almost four
- 30:37Speaker 6: goals a game, very high on the charts in the NHL,
- 30:40Speaker 6: but it's tough to sustain that over 84 games. Eventually,
- 30:43Speaker 6: you look at the teams that put up a lot
- 30:45Speaker 6: of goals, they're teams that put up a lot of
- 30:47Speaker 6: shots as well. You've got to get pucks to the net.
- 30:50Speaker 6: It was a very successful road trip. for the Seattle Kraken.
- 30:53Speaker 6: Freddie Gaudreau, four goals, two.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Assists in that time.
- 30:56Speaker 2: The fourth line responsible for seven goals, nine assists. A,
- 31:00Speaker 2: do you expect that to continue here at home? And B,
- 31:04Speaker 2: for a team that's already scored six or more goals,
- 31:07Speaker 2: or five or more goals three times, it only happened
- 31:09Speaker 2: twice last year all season long. How crucial is it,
- 31:13Speaker 2: not only for the Kraken to get a win here tonight,
- 31:15Speaker 2: but also to get a statement win your first game
- 31:18Speaker 2: back on home ice?
- 31:19Speaker 6: Yeah, with 13 guys in this roster that are at
- 31:21Speaker 6: four or more points, this team is clearly showing one
- 31:24Speaker 6: of their strengths, their depths of scoring. That comes from
- 31:26Speaker 6: the fourth line. But we've talked a lot about that
- 31:28Speaker 6: third line as well. Cat and Wright and Kako, they're
- 31:31Speaker 6: playing well together. So I expect to see that through
- 31:34Speaker 6: this homestand. The fourth line contributing every single game. Hey,
- 31:37Speaker 6: it doesn't need to be all the goals or the
- 31:39Speaker 6: opening goal, but they got to get something on the.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Score sheet every day, every game.
- 31:43Speaker 6: If they do, this team looks very similar to a
- 31:46Speaker 6: team we saw a few years ago make the playoffs.
- 31:49Speaker 4: That bottom six forward group.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Responsible for 36 points total this year through their first
- 31:55Speaker 2: nine games. You talk about contributing every.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Night, the fourth line doing that, the third line doing that.
- 32:00Speaker 4: You know who else contributes every single night to success?
- 32:05Speaker 5: Mike Benton!
- 32:05Speaker 2: Mike Benton back on the Coors Light Landing Section 20.
- 32:08Speaker 2: He's standing by. He's got more for you. Your Coors
- 32:10Speaker 2: Light pregame show rolls on. The Global Credit Union, Kraken

- 34:26Speaker 11: Mike Benton again with you back at Climate Pledge Arena
- 34:28Speaker 11: as your opening faceoff is about 13 minutes away for
- 34:31Speaker 11: the Kraken and the Red Wings. We'll have lineups coming
- 34:33Speaker 11: up here in just a bit, but developing story right now,
- 34:36Speaker 11: it appears that Brandon Montour is sighted to play. He
- 34:39Speaker 11: is right now listed on amongst the lineups, and we'll
- 34:42Speaker 11: get you the scratches and the full starting five for
- 34:45Speaker 11: both teams coming up very, very soon. But for now,
- 34:48Speaker 11: downstairs we go where head coach Lane Lambert is standing
- 34:51Speaker 11: by with Everett Fitzhugh.
- 34:53Speaker 23: Thanks, Mike. Lane, finally cracking her back home after a
- 34:57Speaker 23: 3-1-1 road trip. Overall successful. You take 7 of 10
- 35:00Speaker 23: points against some tough competition. Wrap up the last week
- 35:04Speaker 23: and a half for Seattle and where you feel this
- 35:06Speaker 23: team is now compared to where they were after that
- 35:09Speaker 23: Vegas game.
- 35:11Speaker 24: I think, you know, obviously we had some success. We
- 35:14Speaker 24: had some good goaltending. I thought, you know, if we
- 35:18Speaker 24: can just continue to find some consistency in.
- 35:21Speaker 5: Our game, it didn't.
- 35:22Speaker 24: Loved our game against Florida. At least the last 42
- 35:25Speaker 24: minutes of it I didn't like. The first 18 were fine. So,
- 35:29Speaker 24: you know, just continue to build on consistency and continue
- 35:34Speaker 24: to understand what we need to do to have success,
- 35:37Speaker 24: and that is use speed and have some pressure. Make
- 35:42Speaker 24: sure that we're tight on people and playing in other teams' faces.
- 35:46Speaker 24: So I think when we do that, you know, we
- 35:48Speaker 24: have success and when we don't, we don't. It's very,
- 35:51Speaker 24: it became very evident on the road trip.
- 35:55Speaker 23: When you get to the end of a long road
- 35:57Speaker 23: trip like that, you and I were kind of talking
- 35:59Speaker 23: off mic just about how long that trip was and
- 36:02Speaker 23: how guys are itching to get back home. How do
- 36:04Speaker 23: you keep the focus knowing that you've been gone for eight,
- 36:07Speaker 23: ten days at a time and you still have some
- 36:10Speaker 23: tough opposition ahead of you?
- 36:12Speaker 24: Well, it's, you know, it's your job. That's all there
- 36:15Speaker 24: is to it and, you know, there was, I think
- 36:18Speaker 24: a little bit of fatigue that came into play. I
- 36:20Speaker 24: thought that the trip for me was one game too long.
- 36:22Speaker 24: And obviously it turned out to be that way, but, um,
- 36:26Speaker 24: I said it before the game, uh, you know, you
- 36:28Speaker 24: can only go on the road for so long before
- 36:30Speaker 24: it starts to wear on you. Um, that's just the
- 36:32Speaker 24: nature of the nature of the beast. But at the
- 36:35Speaker 24: same time, uh, you know, like I said, I thought
- 36:37Speaker 24: we played pretty well in Florida for the first 18
- 36:40Speaker 24: minutes of the hockey game. And then it got unraveled
- 36:42Speaker 24: on us. We started to make some mistakes, um, you know, and,
- 36:46Speaker 24: Panic set in, and we just didn't handle it as
- 36:49Speaker 24: well as I think we can moving forward, but certainly
- 36:53Speaker 24: an opportunity for us to learn and grow from that.
- 36:56Speaker 23: Speaking of opportunity, your bottom six forward group has been
- 36:59Speaker 23: playing very well as of late. You get 16 points
- 37:02Speaker 23: from your fourth line on that road trip. The Cat
- 37:04Speaker 23: and Kako and right line have been playing very well
- 37:08Speaker 23: as well. When you look at trying to elevate guys
- 37:10Speaker 23: up the lineup and giving guys more ice time, where
- 37:13Speaker 23: do you see those two lines roles evolving moving forward?
- 37:18Speaker 24: Well, those, those lines, uh, for me, you know, you
- 37:22Speaker 24: talk about as a hockey team, you have to have
- 37:24Speaker 24: people that are in the right seat on the bus
- 37:27Speaker 24: and they're in the right seat on the bus. And,
- 37:29Speaker 24: you know, we need our top six guys to, you know,
- 37:32Speaker 24: get going here five on five. Um, I don't see, uh,
- 37:37Speaker 24: there being a bunch of change down, you know, in that,
- 37:39Speaker 24: in that area. Um, Because they had success in that area.
- 37:44Speaker 24: So why would we change that? What we need is
- 37:47Speaker 24: we need more of our top six guys.
- 37:49Speaker 23: Looking at tonight's game against the Red Wings, 6-3 win
- 37:51Speaker 23: over Detroit to start the trip about a week and
- 37:54Speaker 23: a half ago. What did you learn about the Red
- 37:55Speaker 23: Wings in that game? And what should the Kraken be
- 37:58Speaker 23: prepared for here tonight? Well, they're a fast team.
- 38:02Speaker 24: I thought, you know, when we started the game against them,
- 38:05Speaker 24: I thought Philip Grubauer played amazing. And they probably in
- 38:09Speaker 24: the first period should have been up a couple goals,
- 38:11Speaker 24: and they weren't. You know, we ended up responding. I
- 38:15Speaker 24: thought that, to be honest with you, I thought their
- 38:17Speaker 24: goaltender didn't play very well, which gave us an opportunity to,
- 38:21Speaker 24: you know, shoot the puck in the net. And that
- 38:23Speaker 24: was probably the pivotal part of the game for me
- 38:25Speaker 24: was our goaltender played better than their goaltender played. Now,
- 38:28Speaker 24: in saying that, you know, they are a high-shot volume team.
- 38:31Speaker 24: They go to the net hard. They make plays. They've
- 38:33Speaker 24: got good players, Sider, Raymond. You know, Larkin, these guys
- 38:37Speaker 24: are legit stars in the NHL, and we're going to
- 38:41Speaker 24: have to make sure that we're ready to go.
- 38:43Speaker 11: Kraken certainly know that they're going to be up against
- 38:45Speaker 11: a high-octane team with plenty of star power, and Philip
- 38:48Speaker 11: Grubauer looking for another magical night just like he had
- 38:51Speaker 11: 11 days ago. against the exact same team when he
- 38:54Speaker 11: picked up his first win of the season. That's head
- 38:57Speaker 11: coach Lane Lambert again explaining more on how the Kraken
- 39:00Speaker 11: have depth. Players who effectively have the right seat on
- 39:03Speaker 11: the bus. That's the bottom six. No sense here in
- 39:06Speaker 11: changing a theme, and yet we'll see as far as
- 39:08Speaker 11: the top six if one small switch can help get
- 39:12Speaker 11: several players right back on the right track as far
- 39:15Speaker 11: as production. Once again, that's head coach Lane Lambert joining
- 39:17Speaker 11: Everett Fitzhugh, that conversation podcast that, by the way, right
- 39:21Speaker 11: now via the Kraken Audio Network. Get that on the
- 39:24Speaker 11: iHeartRadio app. Second and final matchup for these two teams
- 39:28Speaker 11: of the season. the corner, the Kraken looking to get
- 39:31Speaker 11: back on the winning track. Opening a four-game home stand
- 39:34Speaker 11: against the Red Wings. We'll tell you more about the
- 39:35Speaker 11: lineups to begin this one. Coming up in just a bit,

- 39:45Speaker 25: cover the beer coolers or fill their only sink in
- 39:48Speaker 25: a hotel room with ice? It's actually kind of crazy
- 39:51Speaker 25: the lengths people will go to make sure their beer
- 39:53Speaker 25: is ice cold. But no matter what people do, one
- 39:57Speaker 25: thing is pretty clear. Because it's not a beer unless
