- 0:07Speaker 1: Everybody.
- 0:07Speaker 2: You're very welcome into the IRA Series podcast presented by
- 0:10Speaker 2: Erlingus Week fourteen.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hi, is it week fourteen of the NFL season.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I'm my co host this week or my guest is
- 0:18Speaker 2: already gosping at that day.
- 0:20Speaker 1: You're all very welcome to Wes. You are here from
- 0:22Speaker 1: sears Isation Radio.
- 0:23Speaker 2: From Steters Radio, generally all different types of media joining
- 0:26Speaker 2: us again, Wes, you're very very welcome back on here.
- 0:29Speaker 1: How are you doing? First and foremost, I'm.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Good, Mick.
- 0:32Speaker 4: I mean, it's been you know, it's been a tough
- 0:34Speaker 4: week on the back of Sunday's performance, But you know,
- 0:38Speaker 4: I'm fortunate, Like I've got two young daughters. It's Christmas
- 0:41Speaker 4: holiday season. It's hard for me to be depressed about
- 0:45Speaker 4: football around them. They help me do a good job
- 0:47Speaker 4: of keeping things in perspective and turning the page.
- 0:50Speaker 3: But I'm doing well.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Partner, good to be back here with you, and I
- 0:53Speaker 4: hope I hope you're doing well as well.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely getting into the holiday mode on day that
- 1:01Speaker 2: is maybe taking my mind off of the just a
- 1:02Speaker 2: little bit as well. Not being said, we are going
- 1:05Speaker 2: to talk about what's coming up down the stretch. We'll
- 1:07Speaker 2: talk about what happened last week in a week second,
- 1:09Speaker 2: they would be a miss of me. Not to joke
- 1:11Speaker 2: in the fact that we met each other at the
- 1:13Speaker 2: game at the Pokers game the week seven week get
- 1:16Speaker 2: and we completely miss each other in in Ireland because
- 1:19Speaker 2: it was just busy week.
- 1:21Speaker 1: As you enjoy yourself, Oh I had.
- 1:23Speaker 3: It was a trip of a lifetime. Man.
- 1:25Speaker 4: I cannot wait to take my wife and my kids back.
- 1:28Speaker 4: I think that's the best way to describe it. But
- 1:31Speaker 4: the weather was amazing. We lucked out there. The people
- 1:34Speaker 4: were amazing. The Irish culture is so rich and so incredible.
- 1:39Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:40Speaker 4: I've been fortunate enough to go a few other places
- 1:43Speaker 4: around the globe. You know, I've been to Canada and
- 1:45Speaker 4: Mexico obviously, I've been to Spain. I've been to Italy.
- 1:49Speaker 4: I've been to Australia and New Zealand. And I wouldn't
- 1:52Speaker 4: say those places hate Americans, but they're also not overly
- 1:56Speaker 4: excited to see us coming. There's kind of a middle ground.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I wouldn't say they hate us, but they certainly don't
- 2:00Speaker 4: love us.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Man.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Everyone in Ireland was like, we're so happy we're you're here.
- 2:04Speaker 4: We're so happy you're bringing the NFL to Dublin. We've
- 2:07Speaker 4: been waiting forever for this. Everyone was so kind, everyone
- 2:10Speaker 4: was so friendly. I loved the culture, I loved the
- 2:13Speaker 4: guinness it was. It was an incredible experience, man, And
- 2:16Speaker 4: like I said, I will certainly be bringing the family
- 2:19Speaker 4: back at some point before too long.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I love it and hopefully we get you and all
- 2:24Speaker 2: the guys back at some stage as well.
- 2:26Speaker 1: And thank you for.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Doing what you continue to do and beating the drum,
- 2:30Speaker 2: not just over those weeks in regards to Ireland, but
- 2:32Speaker 2: even whenever we had the chance to meet around the
- 2:34Speaker 2: combine and stuff. It was definitely something to look out
- 2:36Speaker 2: for the year. We would appreciate it. Let's start the
- 2:39Speaker 2: podcast off with some good news for Irish fans. This
- 2:42Speaker 2: game on Sunday against the Ravens is on television. It's
- 2:45Speaker 2: on Sky Sports Plus, but it's also on NFL game
- 2:47Speaker 2: passed on the Zone. It was on free television last
- 2:50Speaker 2: week against the Bills on those Sky Sports so we're
- 2:52Speaker 2: still on TV this week Before we talk about this games. Yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 2: there's no point in cotton around this. It was a
- 3:01Speaker 2: disappointing loss last week, probably disappointing in the fact of
- 3:06Speaker 2: when you watched how that first half performance went the
- 3:09Speaker 2: round I talked last week in the podcast, I expected
- 3:12Speaker 2: maybe a lot more activity on both sides of the
- 3:14Speaker 2: ball from both teams in the first half. But when
- 3:17Speaker 2: we get into the locker room in halftime, I said, okay,
- 3:19Speaker 2: well savagely grind, did I do whatever you have to
- 3:22Speaker 2: do on it? Just it just went in the second half?
- 3:26Speaker 2: Like where do you you know, as somebody is sitting
- 3:30Speaker 2: there and watching that in person, where do you look
- 3:33Speaker 2: at that and think you know this needs to improve
- 3:35Speaker 2: over the next few weeks.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yeah, two things, And I mean we could you know,
- 3:39Speaker 4: we could talk about that for half an hour easily,
- 3:41Speaker 4: But two things that really stood out to me, Mick.
- 3:44Speaker 4: The first is, we know the Steelers are a team
- 3:47Speaker 4: they need their defense to create turnovers and they need
- 3:49Speaker 4: to capitalize on them. And despite having two turnovers in
- 3:53Speaker 4: the first half, you were able to capitalize on one.
- 3:56Speaker 3: But those were the only points you scored.
- 3:58Speaker 4: It felt like the first thirty minut and it's went
- 4:00Speaker 4: the way you needed them to, yet you only had
- 4:03Speaker 4: a seven to three lead.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Maybe needed a little bit more.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Of a PUSHI in there, so not being able to
- 4:08Speaker 4: fully capitalize off of those turnovers and then just run
- 4:12Speaker 4: game both sides of the ball. They were not able
- 4:14Speaker 4: to establish the run on offense. But really what James
- 4:17Speaker 4: Cook was able to do, I mean getting over thirty carries.
- 4:20Speaker 3: He had over eighty yards in the first half.
- 4:23Speaker 4: And I think that that caught up with the defense
- 4:25Speaker 4: in the second half. And that's maybe the most head
- 4:27Speaker 4: scratching part about it, Mick, was they had done such
- 4:30Speaker 4: a good job Packers. You know, Jacob's a really talented
- 4:33Speaker 4: running back. They limited him. Colts at Taylor maybe having
- 4:37Speaker 4: the best year of any running back in the NFL
- 4:39Speaker 4: this year, Jonathan Taylor. If anybody was over at the
- 4:41Speaker 4: game in Germany, they certainly saw that like you did.
- 4:44Speaker 3: They were able to limit him.
- 4:45Speaker 4: The Chicago Bears, who had a top five rushing attack
- 4:48Speaker 4: in the National Football League, they held them to under
- 4:51Speaker 4: one hundred yards rushing. It really felt like, Okay, you're
- 4:55Speaker 4: gonna be able to stop James Cook, limit James Cook,
- 4:58Speaker 4: make Josh Allen have to beat you with his ow
- 5:00Speaker 4: arm and the build wide receivers don't really scare you.
- 5:03Speaker 3: But they were just not able to do that. Buffalo
- 5:05Speaker 3: was able to.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Run whenever wherever however they wanted to and so not
- 5:10Speaker 4: fully capitalizing off of those turnovers in the first half
- 5:12Speaker 4: to build a bigger lead and then just in ability
- 5:16Speaker 4: to win at.
- 5:16Speaker 3: The line of scrimmage.
- 5:17Speaker 4: But I think, particularly on the defensive side of the ball,
- 5:19Speaker 4: those feel like the things that have to get turned
- 5:22Speaker 4: around for the Steelers when you're playing a Baltimore team
- 5:24Speaker 4: that you know turnovers are going to be key. And
- 5:26Speaker 4: then obviously Lamar Jackson, Derek Henry, we know how Baltimore
- 5:30Speaker 4: runs the football. That's got to get back to being
- 5:33Speaker 4: a strength of this defense.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think for me, you know, sort of seeing
- 5:37Speaker 2: the energy the buffalo hot coming out in the second
- 5:40Speaker 2: half and almost you know, I think it's easy to
- 5:42Speaker 2: say it now. I think our defense, as you said,
- 5:45Speaker 2: just looked a bit a bit tired from the more day. Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 2: like they have to find the way like teams are
- 5:51Speaker 2: gonna look nwe and go okay, well we can run
- 5:53Speaker 2: all over this. Like they have to find the way
- 5:54Speaker 2: to stop that run very very quickly and really stop
- 5:57Speaker 2: the ruts. And there is no better way of me
- 6:00Speaker 2: be doing not starting off with this week, which we'll
- 6:02Speaker 2: talk about in a few minutes after we hear from
- 6:04Speaker 2: a couple of guys on the roster in the locker
- 6:06Speaker 2: room just before we do that Wes adum feeling coming
- 6:10Speaker 2: in this week, Siying that seen the news scene that
- 6:12Speaker 2: he had obviously mutually part of Wes with Minnesota. What's
- 6:17Speaker 2: your thoughts in this because I just don't know what
- 6:20Speaker 2: to expect. I was seeing him in Trennon this week.
- 6:23Speaker 2: If he is, you know, playing at a good level,
- 6:27Speaker 2: he could be a really good addition to this offense.
- 6:28Speaker 2: It's harder to want to expect him to we see him.
- 6:31Speaker 4: It certainly is, and that's kind of the you know,
- 6:33Speaker 4: the Steelers tried this a couple of weeks ago with
- 6:35Speaker 4: another veteran wide receiver in Marquez Valdez Scantling, and he's
- 6:39Speaker 4: still been on the practice squad and we haven't seen
- 6:41Speaker 4: him able to prove that he deserves a helmet or
- 6:44Speaker 4: a spot on that fifty three man roster.
- 6:46Speaker 3: You know, he he doesn't need to light the world
- 6:47Speaker 3: on fire.
- 6:48Speaker 4: If he can give them a legitimate option, you know,
- 6:50Speaker 4: I think that that would go a long way. Different
- 6:52Speaker 4: body type, different skill set. They have to find a
- 6:55Speaker 4: way to take some attention off a DT metcalf I'm
- 6:57Speaker 4: sure that's something I know you know that. I'm sure
- 6:59Speaker 4: you've talked about that in another pass catcher, to really
- 7:02Speaker 4: make the defense respect it, to take some attention away
- 7:05Speaker 4: from DK Metcalf.
- 7:06Speaker 3: That's another thing that they.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Need to figure out down the stretch here is defenses
- 7:10Speaker 4: are able to queue on DK Metcalf in the passing
- 7:13Speaker 4: game way too much. But I'm talking down in, down out,
- 7:16Speaker 4: a friar Mouth, a John new Smith, a Calvin Austin,
- 7:18Speaker 4: a Roman Wilson. You've just been waiting for one of
- 7:21Speaker 4: those guys to really carve out a role and it
- 7:23Speaker 4: hasn't happened. If Adam feln can kind of put his
- 7:26Speaker 4: hand in that pile, that would be great, But I
- 7:29Speaker 4: think it's it's more likely for the Steelers that it's
- 7:32Speaker 4: got to be one of those tight ends that really
- 7:34Speaker 4: takes a step forward and starts to carve out a
- 7:36Speaker 4: role in this offense.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I really will see pot try and gets that next
- 7:40Speaker 2: level over these last few big, big weeks, which you're
- 7:42Speaker 2: gonna talk about Innui. Second, just finally here on on
- 7:44Speaker 2: this sort of general talk. Look, obviously wish Darius Lay
- 7:47Speaker 2: the bassio Sante Samuel Junior coming in the quarterback and
- 7:50Speaker 2: do you like the move? Do you think Samuel's ready?
- 7:54Speaker 3: I do, and I you know, I haven't seen much
- 7:57Speaker 3: of him.
- 7:57Speaker 4: I once or twice down at the facility last week
- 8:00Speaker 4: or two, but that's been about it. But I think,
- 8:03Speaker 4: you know, we know the Steelers, they've got some depth
- 8:05Speaker 4: issues at corner right They had to move Jalen Ramsey
- 8:09Speaker 4: to safety. Corey Trice is out for the year, James
- 8:12Speaker 4: Pierre is dealing with concussion stuff right now. So I
- 8:16Speaker 4: don't think that they would have given up Darius Slay.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I don't think if they would have released Darius Slay
- 8:21Speaker 4: if they didn't really like what they've seen from as
- 8:22Speaker 4: Sante Samuel Junior, because they need bodies in general, and
- 8:27Speaker 4: especially with James Pierre being in concussion protocol and his
- 8:30Speaker 4: status for Sunday being uncertain. You know what you got
- 8:33Speaker 4: in JPJ and Joey Porter Jr. You know what you
- 8:35Speaker 4: having Brandon Eccles.
- 8:36Speaker 3: But you've kind of.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Been, you know, switching between Slay, switching between Pierre, trying
- 8:41Speaker 4: to figure out that other spot. If they weren't pretty
- 8:43Speaker 4: confident in a Sante Samuel Junior, I think they would
- 8:46Speaker 4: have kept slay around. So that to me is like, Okay,
- 8:50Speaker 4: if they're willing to let go of the veteran at
- 8:52Speaker 4: a position where they're a little thin, they must be
- 8:55Speaker 4: confident in this practice squad guy. And you know a
- 8:58Speaker 4: Sante Samuel Junior. Obviously it was fourteen months in between
- 9:02Speaker 4: times that he was on a football field with that injury,
- 9:04Speaker 4: But before that injury, he was one of the more promising, encouraging,
- 9:09Speaker 4: you know, young cornerbacks in the National Football League. If
- 9:11Speaker 4: they can get him back even close to that, that'll
- 9:14Speaker 4: be great for down the stretch and Mick, it'll be
- 9:16Speaker 4: great for you know, when they all report to training
- 9:19Speaker 4: camp in July of twenty twenty six. Again, if you
- 9:21Speaker 4: can have Joey Porter Junior, Brandon Echols, Sante Samuel feel
- 9:25Speaker 4: confident in those three, that would go a long way
- 9:27Speaker 4: in your.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Roster building process.
- 9:29Speaker 4: And you know, throughout free agency, in the draft and
- 9:32Speaker 4: training camp and that whole timeline as well.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I wish he was shotting the Monday morning when it
- 9:37Speaker 2: was in the Blues after a lost month, because you've
- 9:38Speaker 2: perkingly right up. I think you're gonna perk all the
- 9:40Speaker 2: funds up as well. Here it's grit and we're gonna
- 9:42Speaker 2: very quickly preview this Reevens game in the wee second
- 9:45Speaker 2: and before we dealt we're gonna hear from coach Salmon
- 9:47Speaker 2: on Arn Rodgers here on the Iris Sies podcast presented
- 9:50Speaker 2: by Erlingus.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Kyle Hamilton moves to diame linebacker. He plays inside. He's
- 9:54Speaker 5: a very versatile guy man. He's the poster boy for
- 9:57Speaker 5: their turnover culture. I think he's got seventeen career force
- 10:01Speaker 5: fumbles and counting now and so ball security is gonna
- 10:06Speaker 5: be a major component of it. We got to be
- 10:07Speaker 5: really fundamentally sound there. Again, he leaves that charge, but
- 10:13Speaker 5: again wouldn't be remiss if I didn't mention Malachi starks Man,
- 10:17Speaker 5: their first rounder. He's a center fielder man and is
- 10:21Speaker 5: doing a really good job patrolling that area to feel
- 10:24Speaker 5: and and and particularly of late as as I mentioned,
- 10:27Speaker 5: with that acquisition, and they're able to solidify some divisional labor.
- 10:32Speaker 5: He's been a mainstay in the middle of the field
- 10:33Speaker 5: for him and doing a nice job of solidifying that space.
- 10:37Speaker 5: You see growth and development in Nate Wiggins in year two.
- 10:41Speaker 5: I think he's playing really good football. He's a tough
- 10:44Speaker 5: cover man, I know he went out of the last
- 10:47Speaker 5: football game, but as we sit here and prepare today,
- 10:49Speaker 5: we certainly anticipate seeing him in the matchup like this
- 10:52Speaker 5: and and and ready to deal with his talents. They
- 10:56Speaker 5: do a lot of things up front, man, They use
- 10:57Speaker 5: a variety of packages and personnel groups. They've had some
- 11:01Speaker 5: attrition up front in their defensive line and edge people,
- 11:07Speaker 5: and so they get into some Dime forty one. They
- 11:09Speaker 5: also get into some dime thirty two. Young draftee out
- 11:13Speaker 5: of Clemson Simpson is versatile. You'll see him in some
- 11:16Speaker 5: dime thirty two. He'll rush off the edge, He'll act
- 11:20Speaker 5: as a hover rusher at times in a hybrid four
- 11:24Speaker 5: man rush. He drops some. It gives him really good
- 11:28Speaker 5: schematic variation. You got he and Rokwan and Kyle Hamilton
- 11:33Speaker 5: down around the box. Some guys blitz, some guys cover.
- 11:36Speaker 5: They do a nice job week in and week out
- 11:38Speaker 5: of kind of changing those things up. And then certainly
- 11:42Speaker 5: when we play these guys man, special teams is always
- 11:45Speaker 5: a major component of how games unfold. They are a
- 11:49Speaker 5: really good special teams unit. It's a value system of there.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Certainly it's a value system of ours. We'll be fighting
- 11:55Speaker 5: for every blade of grass in all three phases, and
- 11:58Speaker 5: oftentimes they come in more chunks in this phase because
- 12:01Speaker 5: of the vertical and heartle donald grass associated with these plays.
- 12:05Speaker 5: And so, man, we got to be really good in
- 12:06Speaker 5: that space. Our return games got to provide a leg
- 12:09Speaker 5: up for us. Our covers game has got to be excellent,
- 12:11Speaker 5: and certainly our specialists have to be on it. Excited
- 12:15Speaker 5: about the prep in terms of what lines ahead with
- 12:17Speaker 5: us this week, I'm excited about getting in front of
- 12:20Speaker 5: our guys starting tomorrow morning, man, and laying out of
- 12:23Speaker 5: playing and working that plan and taking it to Baltimore
- 12:26Speaker 5: AFC North Football with a division lead online.
- 12:29Speaker 6: It's really just about the personnel when you look at
- 12:31Speaker 6: the tape on who's playing and who's playing well. And
- 12:34Speaker 6: I mentioned in the charters week how good Derwin was playing,
- 12:37Speaker 6: and I'd say the same thing about Kyle. Kyle is
- 12:40Speaker 6: the guy that, like I said about Derwin, he plays
- 12:42Speaker 6: safety and base, he plays nickel and big nickel, he
- 12:45Speaker 6: plays linebacker and dime. You know, that's a multifaceted, multi
- 12:49Speaker 6: talented Swiss army knife who can do it all. So
- 12:52Speaker 6: he's the guy you gotta make sure you know where
- 12:54Speaker 6: he's at all times. Roco On I played against in
- 12:57Speaker 6: the other NFC. You know, the other Northern Division had
- 13:00Speaker 6: a ton of respect for him since our days going
- 13:02Speaker 6: at it Packers bears. Uh, he's an elite player for
- 13:06Speaker 6: a long time. Kind of gets him going.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Uh.
- 13:10Speaker 6: But they got a lot of you know, good you know,
- 13:12Speaker 6: younger guys and over guys. You know, they traded for
- 13:14Speaker 6: Gilman wasn't playing good. They drafted the young kid from
- 13:17Speaker 6: Starks from Georgia, who I love watching play in college.
- 13:20Speaker 6: And he's done a really nice job. And I think
- 13:22Speaker 6: that acquisition of Gilman allows Kyle to play, you know,
- 13:25Speaker 6: down out of center field a lot more, which it
- 13:28Speaker 6: seems to have been a strength for them.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Is there anything what you guys can do as an
- 13:32Speaker 4: offense to help the receivers get open or is it
- 13:34Speaker 4: just more than winning one on one?
- 13:37Speaker 6: I mean, it's all that, you know, It just comes
- 13:38Speaker 6: down to release, having a plan to release, and proper depths,
- 13:42Speaker 6: proper timing. You know, we've tried different things with rub routes,
- 13:46Speaker 6: and uh, it's just about having a plan for land
- 13:49Speaker 6: of scrimmage and then understanding when to be open on
- 13:52Speaker 6: the time and to each out, but I see improvement
- 13:54Speaker 6: from those guys. It just hasn't, you know, showing up
- 13:57Speaker 6: consistently the last few weeks.
- 13:59Speaker 3: With the Do you feel like that's healing?
- 14:02Speaker 7: And do you just be making any tweaks to the
- 14:04Speaker 7: cast and the stabilizer on?
- 14:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I hope. So, I mean tomorrow we're gonna put
- 14:09Speaker 6: our heads together, me and Gabriel in the training room
- 14:11Speaker 6: and see, uh, see what we can do. But it's
- 14:14Speaker 6: definitely uh healing. I appreciate the extra day off, you know.
- 14:18Speaker 6: I love the practice, so I hate missing practice, but
- 14:22Speaker 6: dealing with what I'm dealing with, it helps to get
- 14:25Speaker 6: another day without any pounding on the you know, on
- 14:28Speaker 6: the bones in there. So, uh, we'll see what happens.
- 14:31Speaker 6: I'd love to be able to be under center. That'll
- 14:33Speaker 6: probably be later in the week decision, But uh yeah
- 14:38Speaker 6: I didn't. I didn't come out of the game any
- 14:39Speaker 6: worse for wear. So the healing process, healing process has continued,
- 14:43Speaker 6: and we'll see what happens. As far as the type
- 14:45Speaker 6: of cast I use come come Sunday. Yeah, I mean
- 14:51Speaker 6: I've been the pistol over the years, with various injuries.
- 14:54Speaker 6: I sustained every Bay so I've spent a lot of
- 14:57Speaker 6: time there.
- 14:58Speaker 7: With Arthur Smith. When you got to talking about you know,
- 15:00Speaker 7: with the structured ways to help get guys more open
- 15:03Speaker 7: and the timing of things and trying to find either
- 15:05Speaker 7: new ways or ways to sharpen you have opportunities to
- 15:08Speaker 7: get more Downfiel shots.
- 15:10Speaker 6: I'm very involved. Yeah, do you have a more specific question.
- 15:14Speaker 8: Well, it's like, you know, the weekly meetings that you
- 15:17Speaker 8: guys have to do to find new challenges, and I
- 15:20Speaker 8: was asking for you to kind of talk more about
- 15:21Speaker 8: the challenges it does to find those answers when there's
- 15:24Speaker 8: been so many weeks without the Downfiel passing game work.
- 15:28Speaker 6: Well, I mean a lot of things go into that.
- 15:29Speaker 6: You know, coverages they've been, they've been most teams are
- 15:33Speaker 6: planning uh double dky, So it's on the rest of
- 15:37Speaker 6: the guys that get open. We've been going a lot
- 15:40Speaker 6: of big personnel stuff. You know, I'm not sure what
- 15:43Speaker 6: the plan will be this week as far as different
- 15:45Speaker 6: personnel groupings, but it comes down to having a plan
- 15:48Speaker 6: with your release at lance scrimmage, run the right route
- 15:51Speaker 6: and then me make the throw and sometimes spend a
- 15:53Speaker 6: combination of any of those three that's it's caused it
- 15:56Speaker 6: to go wrong. But yeah, I think if you look
- 15:59Speaker 6: at to take overall, there hasn't been a ton of
- 16:02Speaker 6: opportunities in general, take those shots, and until we run
- 16:05Speaker 6: the ball consistently every single week and get some more
- 16:07Speaker 6: single high you know we're gonna win in unconditional lice.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Did you hear from the guys?
- 16:13Speaker 2: Obviously a big, big game coming up before we whereas
- 16:16Speaker 2: before we talk about that like seriously month Ravens away
- 16:20Speaker 2: Steeve like Dolphins have this, you know, Steeters Dolphins at
- 16:22Speaker 2: home Monday night football early Tuesday morning for all the
- 16:25Speaker 2: Irish ones here, Lions on the road, Bron's on the road,
- 16:28Speaker 2: I'm home. Did Thereravens to finish all off? We was
- 16:31Speaker 2: talk about this Reevens game in the second. But this
- 16:32Speaker 2: is a tough, tough schedule, you know, read a city.
- 16:36Speaker 2: How many games did the Steeters need to win her
- 16:39Speaker 2: out of these last few?
- 16:40Speaker 4: Well, you know, again some of that would depend on
- 16:43Speaker 4: tiebreaker situations, but they would have to. You think they
- 16:47Speaker 4: got to at least win three, right, it's six and six.
- 16:49Speaker 4: Now you have to at least get to nine and
- 16:51Speaker 4: eight to give yourself a chance. If you win the
- 16:53Speaker 4: right ones. If you sweep Baltimore, it feels like you
- 16:57Speaker 4: would absolutely find a way in. You know, yeah, like
- 17:01Speaker 4: Miami and Cleveland will factor into those AFC tiebreaker equations
- 17:06Speaker 4: where the Lions game won't necessarily because.
- 17:08Speaker 3: They're in the NFC.
- 17:10Speaker 4: So these odds that you see that all the time
- 17:13Speaker 4: Steelers win, they're got a seventy percent chance to make
- 17:15Speaker 4: the playoffs. If they lose, they've got a nineteen percent chance.
- 17:18Speaker 4: And how that fluctuates that will continue to change. But
- 17:21Speaker 4: if they can win in Baltimore, get a leg up
- 17:24Speaker 4: on that tie breaker against the Ravens, they've.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Got a big shot.
- 17:28Speaker 4: And then you know, obviously the return leg when Baltimore
- 17:31Speaker 4: has to come to Pittsburgh for Week eighteen there in
- 17:33Speaker 4: January for.
- 17:34Speaker 3: The final week of the season.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Yeah, but like I think you needed least three of
- 17:38Speaker 4: these five and you need the right ones. Like, you know,
- 17:41Speaker 4: if you beat Baltimore twice, obviously that's the ideal scenario.
- 17:44Speaker 3: But if it's.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Baltimore and Miami and Cleveland and you get those three
- 17:48Speaker 4: AFC wins, I think you would really like your chances
- 17:51Speaker 4: for a tiebreaker against Baltimore at nine and eight but
- 17:54Speaker 4: it's not. It's it's tough sletting because Detroit away is
- 17:58Speaker 4: I love how you guys say that, by the way,
- 18:00Speaker 4: like we always say on the road or going to Baltimore,
- 18:03Speaker 4: Baltimore away, Detroit Away.
- 18:05Speaker 3: That's such a better way to say it.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Detroit Away is gonna be tough because they're gonna be
- 18:09Speaker 4: desperate for a win in a playoff spot in the
- 18:11Speaker 4: thick NFC Cleveland a way a few days after Christmas,
- 18:15Speaker 4: could be a snow globe, could be crazy weather, could
- 18:18Speaker 4: be a weird one, like it seems it always is
- 18:20Speaker 4: when the Steelers go to Cleveland at the end of
- 18:22Speaker 4: the year. So taking care of business here and then
- 18:25Speaker 4: coming back home and taking care of business on Monday night,
- 18:28Speaker 4: and what will be a big one against a Dolphins
- 18:29Speaker 4: team that suddenly found their form to steal one of
- 18:32Speaker 4: your one of your phrases that I like as well too.
- 18:35Speaker 3: The Dolphins very on form right now.
- 18:38Speaker 4: But this is a massive one, man, Like this is
- 18:41Speaker 4: you know, this is uh, this is Manchester United going
- 18:44Speaker 4: to Anfield. You know, this is bar this is this
- 18:47Speaker 4: is Barcelona going to the Burnabout. I mean, this is
- 18:50Speaker 4: one of the biggest fixtures, one of the biggest rivalries
- 18:53Speaker 4: that we have in this country that hardly ever disappoints.
- 18:57Speaker 3: And if you win it.
- 18:58Speaker 4: We're gonna all get on that plane and why home
- 19:00Speaker 4: Sunday and feel great and feel great Monday morning. Our coffee,
- 19:03Speaker 4: our tea is gonna be delicious Monday morning. If you
- 19:06Speaker 4: lose it, it's gonna be like someone took a Wii
- 19:09Speaker 4: in your cereal and you know your your entire week
- 19:11Speaker 4: is gonna be ruined.
- 19:13Speaker 3: There's been a lot on the line.
- 19:14Speaker 4: I mean, they've played a ton of these big games
- 19:16Speaker 4: Green Bay and Indie, in Chicago and Buffalo, but this
- 19:20Speaker 4: one is this is the derby, this is the rivalry.
- 19:23Speaker 4: This is anfield away, this is bernabow away. This is massive.
- 19:27Speaker 4: And you win it, you're gonna feel great. You lose it,
- 19:30Speaker 4: you're gonna feel in the dumps.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I think you're spot on in regards to that. Just
- 19:34Speaker 2: the last few games here, like this Reevens game is
- 19:36Speaker 2: very It's obviously crucial, but in terms of that double
- 19:38Speaker 2: sort of stretch where you've got you know, away from
- 19:40Speaker 2: home at home as well, it's so so big, I
- 19:42Speaker 2: guess in terms of a key to the game each
- 19:44Speaker 2: For me, it's it's it's stopping the world. I mean,
- 19:46Speaker 2: I watched that Reevens Bengals games week and we know that.
- 19:49Speaker 2: You know, obviously the Bengals with Jewel Burrow Bock and
- 19:51Speaker 2: not AFC North is getting tighter and tighter every week.
- 19:54Speaker 2: This this Staters team can beat this Revens team if
- 19:57Speaker 2: they get the right sort of I guess mindset on
- 19:59Speaker 2: the gotta stop Derek Henry, got to stop the Sackler
- 20:02Speaker 2: third runner, or not to stop Lamar Jackson getting the legs.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Have you had any faults in this game as well?
- 20:07Speaker 2: I I genuinely think the Seaters can win this game,
- 20:09Speaker 2: but it's gonna have You're gonna have to go win,
- 20:10Speaker 2: get out early and really try and you know how
- 20:12Speaker 2: it effectively?
- 20:13Speaker 4: Yeah, you got Everything that you just said is spot on.
- 20:16Speaker 4: It doesn't seem like Lamar is one hundred percent healthy,
- 20:19Speaker 4: Like he hasn't been running quite like Lamar typically does
- 20:23Speaker 4: these last few weeks. So if you can limit Derrick Henry,
- 20:26Speaker 4: if you can, maybe you know, limit Mark Andrews and
- 20:29Speaker 4: Isaiah Likely and those talented tight ends they like to use, like,
- 20:31Speaker 4: really put it on Lamar, who I think similar to
- 20:34Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers, is just not himself dealing with some injury stuff.
- 20:38Speaker 4: I think that's key. And then, you know, you kind
- 20:41Speaker 4: of mentioned this a little bit before. We before we
- 20:43Speaker 4: heard from Aaron Rodgers and Mike Tomlin. But just the
- 20:45Speaker 4: amount of time the defense has been spending on the field.
- 20:48Speaker 4: I mean, forty two minutes to eighteen on Sunday in
- 20:51Speaker 4: terms of time of possession against Buffalo, that can't happen.
- 20:55Speaker 4: The Bills had thirty more offense, thirty one or thirty
- 20:58Speaker 4: two more offensive players in the Steelers. If that happens
- 21:01Speaker 4: again in Baltimore, your defense is gonna wear down.
- 21:03Speaker 3: They're gonna run the ball on you. It's gonna be
- 21:05Speaker 3: a long day.
- 21:06Speaker 4: The Steelers defense has played one hundred and fifty three
- 21:09Speaker 4: I think it is more snaps than the offense this year. Mick,
- 21:12Speaker 4: that's like two and a half extra games. And we
- 21:15Speaker 4: know those guys are you know, TJ's not young anymore,
- 21:19Speaker 4: Cam's not young anymore. Jalen Ramsey's not young anymore. You
- 21:22Speaker 4: need to keep your offense on the field. You need
- 21:25Speaker 4: to run the ball. You need to not let Baltimore
- 21:27Speaker 4: run the ball and keep their offense on the field.
- 21:30Speaker 4: That time of possession those amount of snaps. Hey, they're
- 21:33Speaker 4: important every week, but after it really worked against you
- 21:36Speaker 4: on Sunday, you need to get that moveing in your
- 21:39Speaker 4: favor this time around at Baltimore Away.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Spot on Away as well.
- 21:45Speaker 2: You're getting on these soccer terms, I know you have
- 21:47Speaker 2: to jump ball in a sn R very quickly or so.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I just want to thank you for coming on as
- 21:51Speaker 2: you're obviously welcome on any time. Just to remind people
- 21:53Speaker 2: Sky Sports NFL NFL gamepos on the Zone this Sunday,
- 21:57Speaker 2: if you're in the car, off the ball OTV Sports

- 22:02Speaker 2: games coming up off to this year West. Thanks so
- 22:03Speaker 2: much for your time on. I hope everybody listening, including yourself.
- 22:06Speaker 2: How's a great weekend.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Thank you, Thank you, Mick. Always enjoy catching up with you.

- 22:20Speaker 4: here over the last couple of years. And hey, I

- 22:24Speaker 4: too much longer.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I'll see what I can do with the boss at home.
- 22:27Speaker 1: In regards to that.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Thank you so much. Fun shot to you all student books.
- 22:32Speaker 2: All right, I've got to do like a twenty second
- 22:33Speaker 2: Instagram were okay and I know you have to jump.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Okay, please please.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Don't get no. You're good, You're good. You're good. Matt
- 22:37Speaker 3: Scoll not even in the studio yet, so you're your fine.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Hey, I was gonna get ask you like one key
- 22:43Speaker 2: to the game, but like it's thirty second Instagram rocket.
- 22:45Speaker 1: So here we go. New staters are.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Sorry, Sorry I thought you to go into it.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Sorry. We have a new episode of the Iris Sitis
- 22:56Speaker 2: podcast this week. The re events on the Road, Big
- 22:59Speaker 2: Big Games You from nas Nar joins us, well as
- 23:01Speaker 2: this game on Sky Sports NFL on NFL gameposs on
- 23:04Speaker 2: the Zone on on the OTB Sports Radio op this week,
- 23:07Speaker 2: give Steelers Fawns in Ireland one key to the game
- 23:10Speaker 2: against the Refents.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Yeah, you obviously have to get your offense going and
- 23:14Speaker 4: score more than seven points. But I think it all
- 23:16Speaker 4: begins and ends with the run game for Baltimore. We
- 23:19Speaker 4: saw what Buffalo was able to do on the ground
- 23:21Speaker 4: on Sunday and how that wore the Steelers down, kept
- 23:24Speaker 4: the defense on the field too long. You cannot let
- 23:26Speaker 4: Baltimore do that again with Derek Henry. Keep your defense
- 23:30Speaker 4: out there way too long, your offense unable to get
- 23:32Speaker 4: any momentum going.
- 23:34Speaker 3: So the key, as.
- 23:35Speaker 4: It has been for most of the year for the Steelers,
- 23:37Speaker 4: it starts in the trenches. But I think particularly on
- 23:39Speaker 4: the defensive side of the ball, we know Baltimore is
- 23:41Speaker 4: going to want to run. The Steelers have to frustrate
- 23:44Speaker 4: them and limit them from doing so.
- 23:47Speaker 2: We also hear from coach Salmon on quarterback Arn Rodgers
- 23:50Speaker 2: on the podcast. You can click the link in the
