- 0:00Speaker 1: Up.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Man, what's up, Jason?
- 0:01Speaker 1: How you doing? Brother? Hum good? How are you.
- 0:03Speaker 3: I've known you for a handful of years now. It
- 0:05Speaker 3: was lucky enough to host some of your iHeart Country
- 0:07Speaker 3: album release stuff over the past few years. But it
- 0:10Speaker 3: feels like you're at a point in your career where
- 0:12Speaker 3: like stuff like hanging out with friends, making memories with
- 0:16Speaker 3: your family, like that has taken precedent over anything.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Would you say more so over the last few years.
- 0:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think for me, it's always kind
- 0:25Speaker 4: of been about you know that. I mean, I enjoy
- 0:28Speaker 4: I'm on the road, you know, half the year. So
- 0:31Speaker 4: when I'm not on the road and get a chance
- 0:33Speaker 4: to relax or do something I want to do, you know,
- 0:36Speaker 4: that's that's usually in boss family, So you know, us
- 0:40Speaker 4: taking a trip somewhere or going on vacation or kind
- 0:43Speaker 4: of making memories with those guys. I mean, I'd much
- 0:45Speaker 4: rather do that than you know, just go to the
- 0:48Speaker 4: bar downtown and hang whatever, you know. So yeah, but yeah,
- 0:52Speaker 4: I mean I think it's definitely kind of been more
- 0:56Speaker 4: like that recently, and especially as our little kids are
- 0:59Speaker 4: getting older and you know, they're kind of at the
- 1:02Speaker 4: age where it's fun we can throw them on a
- 1:05Speaker 4: plane or on a bus or whatever it is, and like, you.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Know, it's it's easy anymore.
- 1:09Speaker 4: So if I get a chance to have a little downtime,
- 1:12Speaker 4: it's gonna involve them more times than not.
- 1:16Speaker 2: How easy is it.
- 1:17Speaker 3: I was looking on social media recently and it looks
- 1:20Speaker 3: like h Navy got a little bit of a makeover
- 1:22Speaker 3: in the bedroom.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Uh yeah, So that's uh, that's a reflection of my
- 1:28Speaker 4: wife buying stuff on Amazon all the time. So Amazon
- 1:34Speaker 4: is at our house multiple times a day, and she,
- 1:39Speaker 4: you know, she'll go on picterest and like look at
- 1:41Speaker 4: something and.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Go, oh, this is great.
- 1:42Speaker 4: We should do this in the Navy's room and then
- 1:44Speaker 4: she'll order all this stuff and then go all right,
- 1:46Speaker 4: I need you to come in here and help me
- 1:47Speaker 4: put this stuff up. And I'm like, the room looked
- 1:49Speaker 4: fine before you ordered all this stuff.
- 1:51Speaker 1: But okay.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Uh so yeah, but it's uh, there's always projects like
- 1:56Speaker 4: that around the house that that she's got me doing.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That's why i need to get back on the road
- 2:00Speaker 1: as soon as possible.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I'm gonna clip that part so she doesn't know.
- 2:03Speaker 3: That's the real reason your touring, so you don't have
- 2:05Speaker 3: to do home maintenance and home projects. Yeah, when it
- 2:11Speaker 3: comes to the bar situation, obviously, you just open the
- 2:14Speaker 3: spot in Vegas, which is awesome.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I have a puppy. I just got a puppy.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Do you hear that?
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yeah, shut up, I'm talking to Jason Aldean.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Be quiet.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Oh my god, dude, I'll have to edit that out anyway,
- 2:30Speaker 3: the bar thing, you just open the one in Vegas. Obviously,
- 2:34Speaker 3: the Route ninety one wall is awesome. I was on
- 2:36Speaker 3: the radio in Vegas. I worked in Vegas during that time,
- 2:39Speaker 3: So it's cool to see you like work that in
- 2:42Speaker 3: Where the bar goes next? Like, is this something that
- 2:44Speaker 3: you want to continue to invest in and grow? And
- 2:47Speaker 3: are are you kind of happy with where it is now? No?
- 2:50Speaker 4: I think it's uh, you know, originally we did the
- 2:53Speaker 4: one here in Nashville, and you know, we didn't know
- 2:56Speaker 4: what that was going to look like, right, So, I mean,
- 2:58Speaker 4: everybody's got a bar or now. And it was kind
- 3:01Speaker 4: of early on in the process though, we were one
- 3:03Speaker 4: of the first ones to do it, and you know,
- 3:06Speaker 4: where that spot was in Nashville just kind of became
- 3:08Speaker 4: like ground zero for Broadway, you know, and so had
- 3:14Speaker 4: a chance to expand and do one in Gatlinburg, So
- 3:19Speaker 4: that one's you know, much smaller scale than the one here,
- 3:22Speaker 4: but it's super cool. And then we went to Pittsburgh.
- 3:26Speaker 4: That one in Pittsburgh that's more sports bar kind of thing,
- 3:28Speaker 4: and and uh, and then the Vegas one. Obviously, that
- 3:32Speaker 4: one was tricky because you know, we got a special
- 3:36Speaker 4: connection to that town and you know, I wanted to
- 3:39Speaker 4: make sure that if we were going to go in
- 3:40Speaker 4: and do something like that, you know, we we honored
- 3:43Speaker 4: the Route ninety one family and did something in there
- 3:46Speaker 4: to you know, keep that out there. So, uh, Vegas
- 3:50Speaker 4: has been great. I mean that that one's been killing
- 3:52Speaker 4: it so far, and you know, there's there's talks about
- 3:55Speaker 4: possibly doing another one somewhere. I think, you know, those
- 3:58Speaker 4: those kinds of situations. Obviously, we're building a brand on that,
- 4:01Speaker 4: and if it makes sense to go put one somewhere,
- 4:05Speaker 4: you know, we're gonna look at it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So it's uh, you know why not. I mean I
- 4:10Speaker 1: love the bar.
- 4:11Speaker 4: People seem to like it, enjoy going and gives us
- 4:14Speaker 4: a chance to you know, new artists to come in
- 4:16Speaker 4: and play and you know, live bands and stuff. Gives
- 4:19Speaker 4: them a place to come and play. And I just
- 4:22Speaker 4: I like it. I think it's really cool and I've
- 4:24Speaker 4: been fortunate enough to open a few of them, and
- 4:27Speaker 4: if it keeps going well, then I'm sure we'll open
- 4:29Speaker 4: a few more.
- 4:32Speaker 3: It's it's so well done, and I love because we
- 4:34Speaker 3: have our studio in that in that building, so we're
- 4:37Speaker 3: in and out of there.
- 4:38Speaker 2: There's construction now, so it's kind of getting loud.
- 4:40Speaker 3: They're like doing stuff at the building at the TC underneath,
- 4:44Speaker 3: yeah you and then the spot next door, so there's
- 4:46Speaker 3: like construction around there. So it was a little loud
- 4:48Speaker 3: this afternoon and I'm home with a sick kid, but
- 4:49Speaker 3: otherwise we'd be there and uh, it's funny the amount
- 4:53Speaker 3: of people that are like, is Jason here. It's just
- 4:55Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, he's got a bedroom upstairs. Let me
- 4:57Speaker 3: go see if he's not busy, or or like, is.
- 4:59Speaker 2: He in the back? What do you think he's baking
- 5:01Speaker 2: the chicken.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Wings, serving tables? No, you know what.
- 5:05Speaker 4: I will say this though, you know, anytime I'm somewhere,
- 5:09Speaker 4: like if I go to Pittsburgh and you know, we
- 5:11Speaker 4: happen to be the I mean, I do try to
- 5:13Speaker 4: stop in.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And we were in Gatlinburg.
- 5:17Speaker 4: In the fall, and so you know, went in and
- 5:19Speaker 4: we ate had lunch there and you know, kind of
- 5:22Speaker 4: took the family in there and hung out. So, I
- 5:24Speaker 4: mean we do pop in and out of those things
- 5:26Speaker 4: when we're in town. We always go check them out
- 5:28Speaker 4: and see what. We'll pop in and out of the
- 5:30Speaker 4: one here downtown Nashville. And but yeah, I'm not I'm
- 5:34Speaker 4: not back there baking the food or anything.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Man.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I gotta say congrats because a lot of artists drive
- 5:42Speaker 3: for a number one song. You're on the verge of
- 5:43Speaker 3: what would be your thirtieth number one song as you
- 5:48Speaker 3: started your career and you started recording and touring, did
- 5:51Speaker 3: you ever I mean, I'd imagine the number one. Just
- 5:54Speaker 3: to get a number one was great, But to sit
- 5:56Speaker 3: here like is this like Holy hell, I can't believe
- 5:58Speaker 3: like this has taking us as far?
- 6:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you know, you get started as an artist, man,
- 6:03Speaker 4: I mean having multiple number ones is not even like
- 6:06Speaker 4: a you know, that's a pipe dream. So you're you're
- 6:10Speaker 4: sitting there, You're just hoping to get one. You want
- 6:12Speaker 4: to a top forty hit, just so you have something
- 6:15Speaker 4: that people kind of know that you can go out
- 6:17Speaker 4: and play and they can put a face with the
- 6:20Speaker 4: name and the music and all the stuff.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And so.
- 6:23Speaker 4: I had one number one on my first album, didn't
- 6:26Speaker 4: have one on my second album, and then my third
- 6:29Speaker 4: album came out, and that's when we started kind of
- 6:31Speaker 4: stringing them together. She's Country, Big Green Tractor, The Truth,
- 6:35Speaker 4: you know, had three number ones off of that one.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And I think, you know, I was never really a
- 6:41Speaker 1: numbers guy.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I never looked at it and went, oh, man, I
- 6:43Speaker 4: need if I had ten number ones or fifteen or
- 6:45Speaker 4: twenty or whatever that number is. It was just like, man,
- 6:48Speaker 4: I just wanted to be around for a while. I
- 6:50Speaker 4: wanted to keep getting getting to do this and play
- 6:54Speaker 4: music and do my thing. And it's like one day
- 6:57Speaker 4: you look up and you got five number ones, and
- 6:59Speaker 4: then you look up and you got twelve and eighteen.
- 7:01Speaker 4: You're closing in on twenty, and you know, all of
- 7:04Speaker 4: a sudden, you know, start hearing chatter last year about
- 7:08Speaker 4: thirty and it's like, man, it's it's cool. You know,
- 7:10Speaker 4: it's a number to me and it's something I'm proud of.
- 7:13Speaker 4: But what it means to me is longevity that I've
- 7:15Speaker 4: been able to stick around for, you know, twenty years
- 7:19Speaker 4: this year twenty years and you know, hopefully twenty nine
- 7:23Speaker 4: number ones in twenty years.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Like that's a that's a pretty good deal.
- 7:26Speaker 4: So I don't know, man, I just want to do
- 7:29Speaker 4: it as long as people care and as long as
- 7:31Speaker 4: they like what I'm doing, and just you know, let
- 7:33Speaker 4: me climb on a tour bus and go play for
- 7:35Speaker 4: you guys, and you know, that's what I want to do.
- 7:38Speaker 3: It's a good thing you got more than one house,
- 7:40Speaker 3: or at least a house and a massive shed, because
- 7:43Speaker 3: that's a lot of plaques to hang up on the wall.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Hey, you can always add on if you need to. Man,
- 7:48Speaker 4: you got to show those things off.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yes, sir.
- 7:52Speaker 3: One of the most unique things that as not a
- 7:54Speaker 3: lot of artists gets to celebrate number ones, but a
- 7:56Speaker 3: lot of artists don't get to celebrate number ones. And
- 7:59Speaker 3: almost like I'm management style role with your relationship with
- 8:02Speaker 3: John Morgan, what was that like to sign him? And
- 8:05Speaker 3: now like the first guy that you signed up is
- 8:07Speaker 3: got a number one hit.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Uh well, I mean it's obviously a you know, it's
- 8:12Speaker 4: a different feeling for sure. You know, me having a
- 8:15Speaker 4: number one for myself, we've experienced that a lot of times.
- 8:19Speaker 4: It's still awesome. I mean anytime you get a number one,
- 8:22Speaker 4: because they don't all go number one, you know, and
- 8:24Speaker 4: you have ones that you're like, you know, Hicktown was
- 8:27Speaker 4: never a number one, Embryles Sky was never a number one. Like,
- 8:30Speaker 4: there's a lot of songs that I thought were great
- 8:32Speaker 4: songs that just never, you know, we're able to get
- 8:35Speaker 4: up there and ring the bell. But when you do
- 8:38Speaker 4: get those, it's, you know, it's really a good feeling.
- 8:41Speaker 4: And then when you've never had one, you know, it's
- 8:44Speaker 4: it was cool for me to see that happen for
- 8:45Speaker 4: John and John Morgan and you know, for him to
- 8:49Speaker 4: get his first one and me to get my first
- 8:51Speaker 4: one as a record exec or whatever.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So just really proud of him.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Man, He's a guy that I strongly believe that, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 4: it's just brings something really special to the table. He's
- 9:03Speaker 4: a great writer, great singer, great guitar player. He's just
- 9:07Speaker 4: got all the tools to be a star. And so
- 9:10Speaker 4: I thought he was amazing, still do and just wanted
- 9:14Speaker 4: people to hear him, you know, I just wanted him
- 9:16Speaker 4: to get out there and people to to hear what
- 9:18Speaker 4: what we heard, what we thought was so cool and uh,
- 9:20Speaker 4: for that to happen for him. Man, it's it's it
- 9:23Speaker 4: was a pretty good feeling to have a number one
- 9:24Speaker 4: that's you know, it's like, man, that's your number one,
- 9:27Speaker 4: that's not mine, that's you.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So it's it's really cool.
- 9:32Speaker 3: You're getting ready to hit the road. I mean we're
- 9:33Speaker 3: talking what less than three weeks. I mean you're about
- 9:37Speaker 3: two weeks away.
- 9:37Speaker 2: From hitting the road.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple of weeks for sure.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Uh, full throttle, full throttle tour is getting ready to
- 9:42Speaker 3: take off.
- 9:43Speaker 2: How do tour?
- 9:44Speaker 3: How has touring changed for you since the early days
- 9:48Speaker 3: outside of you know, three hundred dates a year to
- 9:51Speaker 3: you know, whatever you're at now.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I just think we've you know, we've
- 9:55Speaker 4: dialed it in. I mean we that's we've done enough tours,
- 9:59Speaker 4: We've headlined enough tours now to where we know what
- 10:02Speaker 4: that looks like. We know how much time we need
- 10:04Speaker 4: to get ready for that. We know what we wanted
- 10:08Speaker 4: to you know, we know we want it to look
- 10:09Speaker 4: different than it did last year. We're gonna add songs
- 10:13Speaker 4: in that we didn't play last year and just kind
- 10:15Speaker 4: of always keep it new and fresh and as much
- 10:17Speaker 4: as possible, right with you playing a lot of the
- 10:20Speaker 4: same songs that you're gonna play every year. You still
- 10:23Speaker 4: got to kind of take some out, move some things around,
- 10:25Speaker 4: play new music that's coming in. But at this point,
- 10:28Speaker 4: I think we've done it enough to where we know
- 10:31Speaker 4: when it's go time. It's like, okay, we can go
- 10:34Speaker 4: make records and go be in the studio and do
- 10:37Speaker 4: all that stuff on the off time. And you know,
- 10:40Speaker 4: a month, a couple of weeks months before the show,
- 10:43Speaker 4: it's like it's time to start dialing it in and
- 10:45Speaker 4: getting ready. And you know, I went over the other
- 10:47Speaker 4: day and was like mess around on piano to to
- 10:49Speaker 4: work on the the Carrie Underwood duet that we have,
- 10:52Speaker 4: And so I was over there mess around. I'm like,
- 10:55Speaker 4: Drew A Blake, I'm like, what the hell? I can't
- 10:56Speaker 4: even remember I play this song. So it's those kind
- 10:59Speaker 4: of things and just you know, a couple of weeks
- 11:01Speaker 4: before just kind of knocking the rust off a little bit.
- 11:04Speaker 1: And that's kind of where we are right now.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Is it wild to get on stage and know that
- 11:09Speaker 3: if you do hit a point where like what the
- 11:10Speaker 3: hell were the words again, that the crowd is just
- 11:12Speaker 3: going to take over the.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Show for you.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Well, and there's little tricks to that too,
- 11:17Speaker 4: and things that I've kind of learned over the years.
- 11:19Speaker 1: And you know, but.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Yeah, when all else fale is just look at the
- 11:23Speaker 4: crowd and hold the mic out and hopefully it's a
- 11:26Speaker 4: hit that they know.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You know what I mean, It.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Was all part of the plan.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I just want to include you guys.
- 11:33Speaker 3: As we celebrate the success of Whiskey Drink and an
- 11:38Speaker 3: album that is from twenty twenty three. I any fan
- 11:44Speaker 3: would be upset if I didn't ask you what's next?
- 11:48Speaker 4: Well, I think the next single will be from the
- 11:51Speaker 4: new album, and we've been working on that. It's actually
- 11:55Speaker 4: in the process of being mixed right now, So next
- 11:59Speaker 4: thing will be from the new record. Now, as far
- 12:01Speaker 4: as how we're going to drop the album, that's that's
- 12:05Speaker 4: a little bit up in the air right now. I
- 12:07Speaker 4: just feel like, man, last few albums, I just feel
- 12:10Speaker 4: like we're as a streaming thing is taken off and you,
- 12:14Speaker 4: you know, put an album out. You sit there and
- 12:16Speaker 4: you know, it takes you a year and a half
- 12:18Speaker 4: to find the songs, write the songs, go record it,
- 12:21Speaker 4: get it all fixed, and then you put it out
- 12:24Speaker 4: and three months later, everybody's like Okay, well, when's your
- 12:27Speaker 4: next one coming out? And it's like, dude, it took
- 12:28Speaker 4: me a year and a half to make that thing,
- 12:31Speaker 4: you know, so I think, you know, people get ready
- 12:33Speaker 4: to move on to the next thing after they've consumed
- 12:36Speaker 4: the album, and I think, for me, we're leaving a
- 12:38Speaker 4: lot a lot of really cool songs on the table
- 12:41Speaker 4: and things, songs that just aren't getting their day, and
- 12:45Speaker 4: so I want to figure out how to release the album,
- 12:48Speaker 4: whether we release it in segments or whatever that looks
- 12:52Speaker 4: like to try, and you know, not let the album
- 12:56Speaker 4: burn burn out in a couple months after you release it.
- 12:58Speaker 4: So you know, you release it, people want to listen
- 13:01Speaker 4: to it for a couple months and then they're like, okay,
- 13:03Speaker 4: well when I know all those.
- 13:04Speaker 1: When's the next one coming out? And it's like, man,
- 13:06Speaker 1: like another year.
- 13:07Speaker 3: So it's you can almost do like four EPs built
- 13:13Speaker 3: like put together a full album type deal.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's kind of you know, we've we've talked
- 13:18Speaker 4: about a lot of different things, and you know, there's
- 13:20Speaker 4: just a lot of hit songs. I feel like that
- 13:22Speaker 4: we're leaving on the table that we're just not able
- 13:24Speaker 4: to get to because everybody's ready for the next thing,
- 13:28Speaker 4: and uh, you know, just trying to figure out how
- 13:30Speaker 4: to do that, man, because I just, you know, writing
- 13:32Speaker 4: hit songs and finding those songs or it's not easy,
- 13:35Speaker 4: and you know when you feel like you're just kind
- 13:38Speaker 4: of like wasting them because you're trying to move to
- 13:40Speaker 4: the next thing. I just don't feel like some of
- 13:42Speaker 4: those songs are getting their day, and I want to
- 13:44Speaker 4: figure out how to how to change that.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I guess.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Brother, Well listen, I know you got a busy day, heeady.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I appreciate the time I got wasg and hopefully we
- 13:52Speaker 3: can catch up again soon.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Absolutely, man, always good to see you.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Good to see you, Jason, take care back to the fan, brother.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Thank you, good to see man.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Thanks
