Latest / Outspoken the Podcast / Tammy Hembrow Has A 'Whole' Boyfriend
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:04Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm Sophie Torber. I'm Kate Torber. And I'm Amy Torber.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And coming up on today's show, Tammy Hembrough declares she
- 0:15Speaker 1: has a boyfriend. Victoria Beckham publicly addresses her feud with
- 0:19Speaker 1: her son. Harry and Meghan's whirlwind visit to Australia. And
- 0:24Speaker 1: is it time to bring back the distinction between influencers
- 0:27Speaker 1: and celebrities? But first, Laura Henshaw and her husband Dalton
- 0:31Speaker 1: have sold their Brighton mansion for at least $ 8. 5 million.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Last month, they privately listed their home through White Fox
- 0:39Speaker 1: Real Estate. However, it didn't take long for the media
- 0:42Speaker 1: to reveal who the house's famous owners were. And it
- 0:45Speaker 1: didn't take long for the property to sell either. It
- 0:47Speaker 1: was only on the market for 12 days. In terms
- 0:50Speaker 1: of the selling price, the home was listed between $ 8. 5
- 0:53Speaker 1: and $ 9.
- 0:54Speaker 2: 1 million.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Now, while the price is yet to be revealed, Laura
- 0:58Speaker 1: and Dalton's agent confirmed to media that the home was
- 1:01Speaker 1: sold within the advertised price.
- 1:03Speaker 2: So they at least got $ 8. 5 million for it, which is.
- 1:07Speaker 1: A pretty good deal considering they purchased the home back
- 1:09Speaker 1: in July 2021 for just $ 4.
- 1:11Speaker 2: 4 million. I say just, but I mean, you're almost
- 1:14Speaker 2: doubling it there.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I've noticed influencers like Laura who really base their brand
- 1:19Speaker 1: on relatability and coming across as very likable, they often
- 1:23Speaker 1: don't show their followers much of their house. Like, They
- 1:25Speaker 1: will put up Instagram stories, but everything is a very
- 1:28Speaker 1: tight shot. So you don't actually see how nice the
- 1:30Speaker 1: place is. There's actually a podcaster I follow that does
- 1:33Speaker 1: that too. And I'm so desperate to see more of
- 1:36Speaker 1: their house that every time they post a reel or
- 1:38Speaker 1: a story, I'm like pausing it.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I'm zooming in. I'm screenshotting.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm like, oh. I swear that that was, you know,
- 1:43Speaker 1: one of those fridges that has the ice blocks that
- 1:46Speaker 1: come out of it. Like that's obviously the sign that
- 1:47Speaker 1: you're rich. In their defense, I think it's because tall
- 1:50Speaker 1: poppy syndrome is so rife in Australia. And I think
- 1:53Speaker 1: a lot of influencers don't want to necessarily look like
- 1:55Speaker 1: they're showing off. I mean, it's kind of the opposite
- 1:58Speaker 1: of influencers like Georgie Stevenson who want you to know
- 2:02Speaker 1: how wealthy they are and want you to know how
- 2:03Speaker 1: successful they are so they can sell manifestation courses to you.
- 2:06Speaker 2: But if you're trying to sell a.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Brand of being relatable and You don't want people at
- 2:10Speaker 1: home to know that your house shits all over theirs
- 2:12Speaker 1: and is 10 times better than it. On that, is
- 2:15Speaker 1: anyone else surprised by Steph Clare Smith's house? Because she
- 2:18Speaker 1: sold her mansion that was this brand new home and
- 2:21Speaker 1: she moved into this quite large property. It's big enough
- 2:24Speaker 1: to have horses on it. And she often shows off
- 2:27Speaker 1: the fields and it looks very grand. However, the house
- 2:30Speaker 1: wasn't modern. So they've decided to renovate their shed and
- 2:34Speaker 1: essentially move into that while they bulldoze the rest of
- 2:37Speaker 1: it and build what I'm assuming will be some sort
- 2:39Speaker 1: of palatial mansion on it. And while the actual renovations
- 2:42Speaker 1: are nice, I'm thinking, hang on, you're listed on the
- 2:45Speaker 1: AFR young rich list as, you know, worth nearly $ 50 million.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I reckon it must be a pretty nice shed that
- 2:50Speaker 1: they're living in. I think that maybe that it's not
- 2:52Speaker 1: actually a shed and it's more of a granny flat situation.
- 2:55Speaker 1: The said shed's probably bigger than my whole house, but
- 2:57Speaker 1: I mean, and it looks nice and everything, but it
- 3:00Speaker 1: just surprises me.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, okay.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Do you think that Laura will address her house sale
- 3:05Speaker 1: on their podcast?
- 3:05Speaker 2: Only if there's backlash.
- 3:07Speaker 1: They only seem to like addressing things when they can
- 3:09Speaker 1: get really angry about it. I would hate to know
- 3:10Speaker 1: how many disclaimers were around it. Yeah, that's what I'm
- 3:13Speaker 1: imagining her almost apologizing for her success, which is actually
- 3:16Speaker 1: quite sad because if she was a male business owner,
- 3:20Speaker 1: she wouldn't have to do any of this.
- 3:22Speaker 2: She'd just own it. Whatever you feel like confessing, something
- 3:26Speaker 2: you get off your chest, it can be literally anything.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Tammy Hembrough has confirmed she has a boyfriend. She excitedly
- 3:33Speaker 1: confessed the news on White Fox Boutique's After Hours podcast
- 3:37Speaker 1: while she was in the US for Coachella.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Let's take a listen. I have a whole boyfriend. Oh
- 3:45Speaker 2: my God, that's huge news, Miss Tammy.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I know.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Are you so happy?
- 3:48Speaker 3: I am.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Oh, you look really happy. I am so happy, like so,
- 3:52Speaker 2: so happy. Oh, I'm excited for you. Wow, the tea
- 3:55Speaker 2: has been spilled. We won't go too far into the details.
- 4:00Speaker 2: We'll leave people wanting more.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, that boyfriend is, of course, 23-year-old Sydney-based model
- 4:06Speaker 1: Grayson T. Moana, who she hard-launched on the red carpet
- 4:09Speaker 1: at the Wuthering Heights premiere in Sydney back in February.
- 4:13Speaker 1: What I want to know is, what does she mean
- 4:15Speaker 1: by a whole boyfriend? Like, did she have half a
- 4:19Speaker 1: boyfriend last time? I feel like maybe it was a
- 4:20Speaker 1: cutesy way of saying, I have a boyfriend, like a
- 4:23Speaker 1: real-life boyfriend. It seemed, and I feel mean to Tammy
- 4:27Speaker 1: saying this, but it seemed kind of juvenile the way she's.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Like, I have a whole boyfriend.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Like, I couldn't help but roll my eyes only because
- 4:34Speaker 1: I just knew. The reception that she was going to
- 4:37Speaker 1: get in the comment section with people being like, oh,
- 4:39Speaker 1: this is going to last two seconds. I almost felt
- 4:41Speaker 1: like the reference to him being a whole boyfriend was
- 4:45Speaker 1: kind of like this Freudian.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Slip that, you know, he is over age. Like he
- 4:50Speaker 2: isn't an adult.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it was an interesting choice of words considering she
- 4:54Speaker 1: has been criticized for dating a younger man. I'm desperate
- 4:57Speaker 1: for Tammy to find someone nice and for her to
- 4:59Speaker 1: be happy. That's why I find it so difficult to
- 5:01Speaker 1: watch this relationship play out because it.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Feels like you're watching a car crash. And I can
- 5:07Speaker 2: just foresee the fallout that is going to happen when
- 5:10Speaker 2: this relationship ends.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 1: The thing that Tammy's got to be careful about is
- 5:14Speaker 1: if things go sour with Grayson, he may spill his guts.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I could imagine him jumping on a podcast. We've said before,
- 5:21Speaker 1: we think he's in this relationship for clout. Yeah.
- 5:23Speaker 2: But the difference between.
- 5:24Speaker 1: This relationship and her relationship with Matt Sikowsky is it
- 5:28Speaker 1: seems like no one really cares. Like it's kind of like, oh,
- 5:32Speaker 1: we've seen this before, some young guy that is not
- 5:35Speaker 1: going to end well with. The difference with Matt was
- 5:37Speaker 1: that he actually had a profile himself. And then the
- 5:41Speaker 1: way that they were moving so quickly with, you know,
- 5:43Speaker 1: quickly getting engaged and, you know, there were dramas that
- 5:46Speaker 1: were unfolding. There was lots for us to get invested with.
- 5:50Speaker 1: But with this relationship so far, I'm not invested. I'm
- 5:53Speaker 1: just rolling my eyes.
- 5:54Speaker 2: It's because it just seems like a rebound.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I don't think anyone's actually taking the relationship seriously. I
- 5:58Speaker 1: just want to know what Amy and Emily think about
- 6:01Speaker 1: this because they were so vocal about their distaste towards
- 6:05Speaker 1: Tammy's husband, Matt Sikowsky.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Surely they can't be a fan of Grayson.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I'm actually disappointed that Grayson doesn't have his own podcast
- 6:14Speaker 1: like Matt Sikowsky because I would love for him to
- 6:16Speaker 1: interview them like Matt did and then to share.
- 6:19Speaker 2: What they really think.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Maybe the sisters are going for a different approach this
- 6:22Speaker 1: time because with Matt, it didn't actually work them being
- 6:26Speaker 1: quite mean to him. They still ended up getting married.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It was a disaster for Tammy. So maybe they think
- 6:30Speaker 1: if we pretend that we like this guy... Maybe Tammy
- 6:33Speaker 1: will work it out for herself. Emily Hembrough does have
- 6:36Speaker 1: her own podcast now. So at least there is an
- 6:38Speaker 1: opportunity for her maybe to invite Tammy on the show
- 6:40Speaker 1: and grill her and show her distaste towards this guy. Yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I don't think she'd platform Grayson on there, but I
- 6:46Speaker 1: would love to hear what he has to say because
- 6:48Speaker 1: I'm not ultra impressed by the videos he posts or
- 6:51Speaker 1: the photos.
- 6:52Speaker 2: But I mean, to be fair. We haven't heard much
- 6:55Speaker 2: from him.
- 6:55Speaker 1: He might be a nice guy, but, I mean, the
- 6:57Speaker 1: picture that's been painted by his ex-girlfriend who he allegedly
- 7:01Speaker 1: was still with when he started dating Tammy, it really
- 7:04Speaker 1: hasn't made us like him. No, I mean, there's red
- 7:06Speaker 1: flags all over this guy. It seems like Tammy has
- 7:09Speaker 1: left the door open for Grayson to start making an
- 7:12Speaker 1: appearance across her social media by, you know, declaring that
- 7:14Speaker 1: she has a boyfriend now. Well, it seems like that's
- 7:16Speaker 1: already happening because over the weekend, Tammy posted a photo
- 7:20Speaker 1: dump from her appearance at Channel 9's fundraising telephone. So
- 7:24Speaker 1: she was manning the phones and Grayson was there with her.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So she posted this mirror selfie and she was standing
- 7:30Speaker 1: in front of the makeup chair at Channel 9 and
- 7:33Speaker 1: Grayson was sitting in the background on the chair. So
- 7:36Speaker 1: His head was to the back of the mirror. However,
- 7:39Speaker 1: there was a mirror opposite him and it was almost
- 7:42Speaker 1: like he was craning his neck.
- 7:44Speaker 2: So his face.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Appeared in that mirror because he knew it would be
- 7:47Speaker 1: reflected into the photo. Yeah, that is desperation at its finest,
- 7:52Speaker 1: isn't it? And it is just such an ick, if anything.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I feel like a good guy would be trying to
- 7:58Speaker 1: avoid being in the background and just wanting to keep
- 8:01Speaker 1: a low profile and not wanting to be seen. You
- 8:03Speaker 1: can see what his intentions are when he does things
- 8:05Speaker 1: like that. Has anyone else noticed that since Tammy's gone
- 8:08Speaker 1: public with Grayson that Matt Sikowsky seems to be amping
- 8:12Speaker 1: up the content about how much happier he is now?
- 8:15Speaker 1: It's almost like he's trying to cling on to that
- 8:18Speaker 1: 15 seconds of fame thing.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Or that fame adjacency he had with Tammy. It's like,
- 8:22Speaker 2: hang on, I'm still legally her husband.
- 8:24Speaker 1: You can sense that he knows that his notoriety is
- 8:26Speaker 1: waning and he's trying to re-inject himself into that storyline.
- 8:30Speaker 1: If anything, this whole new relationship makes me like Matt
- 8:33Speaker 1: Zukowski more. He seems like such a catch compared to Grayson.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Like he just seems like a nice, normal guy and
- 8:40Speaker 2: he's gotten really fit recently. He posted this TikTok.
- 8:44Speaker 1: It was a comparison shot with last year when he
- 8:46Speaker 1: was with Tammy looking really miserable and And then it
- 8:48Speaker 1: was what he looks like now. And his face was
- 8:51Speaker 1: all chiseled. He's looking amazing. His eyes looked a lot
- 8:54Speaker 1: brighter in the second one. It was almost like he
- 8:56Speaker 1: was rejuvenated from within. Now, he has been making a
- 9:01Speaker 1: few thinly veiled swipes at Tammy over the last week.
- 9:04Speaker 1: So he shared his top five horror movies. And in
- 9:08Speaker 1: second place, he wrote September 2023 to February 2025. Now,
- 9:13Speaker 1: for those not following, that is the timeframe he was
- 9:17Speaker 1: with Tammy. It's interesting because he's finally revealed what month
- 9:21Speaker 1: they broke up, which was only two months after they
- 9:24Speaker 1: got married. So it must have been right after that
- 9:26Speaker 1: Australian open fight that we spoke about back in 2025.
- 9:29Speaker 2: It's actually crazy.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I wonder if he is ever going to spill the
- 9:32Speaker 1: tea because I noticed there was someone who commented on
- 9:35Speaker 1: one of his recent TikToks saying, please, we need to
- 9:37Speaker 1: know what happened. And he love hearted it. So you
- 9:40Speaker 1: never know. I mean, I think it's probably coming at
- 9:43Speaker 1: some point. I almost feel like in order for it
- 9:46Speaker 1: to have had more impact, he needed to do it
- 9:49Speaker 1: sooner when he was more in the zeitgeist because, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: Tammy's moved on. Everyone's sort of moved their attention away
- 9:55Speaker 1: to this new relationship.
- 9:58Speaker 3: To be honest, like just because I have followers doesn't
- 10:00Speaker 3: make me any better than anybody else, truly.
- 10:02Speaker 1: US content creator, Pia Kyrgios has called out a fellow
- 10:07Speaker 1: influencer for taking herself too seriously. Both women were invited
- 10:12Speaker 1: to attend Rhodes event at Coachella, but behave very differently
- 10:16Speaker 1: when Hailey Bieber arrived.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Let's take a listen to what she said.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Y'all, I was at an event with other influencers and
- 10:23Speaker 3: I was freaking out, okay? Because I saw Hailey Bieber.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Hailey motherfucking Bieber.
- 10:27Speaker 2: She was right there.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I literally could touch her. And I was freaking out, okay?
- 10:30Speaker 3: I was pulling out my phone recorder. Tell me why
- 10:34Speaker 3: this influencer next to me. She goes, girl, relax. Like,
- 10:37Speaker 3: you're acting like a fan. We need to act like
- 10:40Speaker 3: our place.
- 10:43Speaker 4: What?
- 10:45Speaker 3: This is the problem these days, y'all.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I feel like.
- 10:48Speaker 3: influencers think they're celebrities. Let's bring back the distinction between
- 10:53Speaker 3: a celebrity and.
- 10:54Speaker 2: An influencer, please.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Because what do you mean?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Is it wrong that I agree with the influencer who
- 11:03Speaker 1: told Pia to chill out? Because if I was lucky
- 11:06Speaker 1: enough to be in a room with someone that I
- 11:09Speaker 1: really admired- I wouldn't want to go up and fangirl
- 11:13Speaker 1: them because I'd want to act as if I'm on
- 11:15Speaker 1: a level playing field to them because then I'm more
- 11:17Speaker 1: likely to be able to befriend them in the future.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Because if you come up to someone and start kissing
- 11:23Speaker 1: their feet and freaking out and screaming at them, that
- 11:27Speaker 1: would make.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Them feel super uncomfortable.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I think Pia had a point though when she said
- 11:31Speaker 1: that she's no better than anyone else just because she
- 11:33Speaker 1: films herself on her iPhone and she was acting her
- 11:36Speaker 1: place in the sense that she is a fan of
- 11:39Speaker 1: Hailey Bieber. And to put it into perspective, for those
- 11:41Speaker 1: who don't follow Pia, she has over 1.5 million followers
- 11:45Speaker 1: on TikTok and around half a million on Instagram. So
- 11:48Speaker 1: she's not just some micro-influencer. Yeah, but that's the whole
- 11:52Speaker 1: difficulty with the influencer world at the moment. It's so
- 11:55Speaker 1: oversaturated that one person walking down the street could have
- 11:58Speaker 1: a million followers and you'll have no clue.
- 12:01Speaker 2: As to who they are. Oh, I totally agree.
- 12:03Speaker 1: There are definitely different tiers of influencers, but I would
- 12:06Speaker 1: say an influencer moves up into that celebrity tier. when
- 12:10Speaker 1: they're recognized away from social media and they're known by
- 12:13Speaker 1: the mainstream media. I also think another element is if
- 12:17Speaker 1: they live the life of a celebrity in terms of
- 12:19Speaker 1: their wealth and getting followed around by paparazzi. So I
- 12:23Speaker 1: would say influencers who have moved into that celebrity category
- 12:27Speaker 1: are Molly May, Alex Earl, James Charles, you know, people
- 12:32Speaker 1: like that who are they've gone.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Up a tier.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I just think there's different categories of celebrities as well,
- 12:39Speaker 1: whether you're an A-lister, whether you're an it girl.
- 12:42Speaker 2: At the moment, Hailey.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Bieber is the it girl, particularly because Justin Bieber has
- 12:47Speaker 1: just played at Coachella and obviously because of the success
- 12:50Speaker 1: of Road. I think that a lot of people, even
- 12:52Speaker 1: if they're in the public eye, seem a little bit,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I don't want to use the word beneath her, but
- 12:55Speaker 1: they probably would be excited to be in the same
- 12:57Speaker 1: room as her. But I would say Hailey Bieber and
- 13:00Speaker 1: Molly Mae aren't that too dissimilar in terms of fame. Okay,
- 13:03Speaker 1: Hailey Bieber is an A-lister in the US. Molly Mae
- 13:06Speaker 1: would be an A-lister in the UK. I think people
- 13:09Speaker 1: really denigrate this term influencer, but she is massive there.
- 13:12Speaker 2: She's had her own doco. She literally sells out everything.
- 13:15Speaker 1: When she broke up with Tommy Fury, the publicity was
- 13:18Speaker 1: compared to that of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. So
- 13:22Speaker 1: while I think someone like Molly Mae probably would fangirl
- 13:25Speaker 1: Hailey Bieber in the sense that she wouldn't see herself
- 13:27Speaker 1: in the same standing as Hailey Bieber because she's quite self-denigrating,
- 13:31Speaker 1: I actually think that they are quite equally matched.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I have to disagree.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I think that Molly May is really well known in
- 13:38Speaker 1: the UK and Australia because of Love Island being played here,
- 13:41Speaker 1: but I don't think that she's on the international level
- 13:44Speaker 1: that Hayley Bieber is on.
- 13:46Speaker 2: No, but that's not what I'm saying.
- 13:47Speaker 1: What I'm saying is if Molly May was there at
- 13:49Speaker 1: Hayley Bieber's road event, I don't think she would be
- 13:51Speaker 1: going like, oh my God, I'm so scared to talk
- 13:54Speaker 1: to her and screaming with her phone, would she?
- 13:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely don't think that she would.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I think she's smart enough not to do that and
- 14:00Speaker 1: more socially aware. I just think from a networking perspective,
- 14:04Speaker 1: If you're an influencer and you've been handpicked and invited
- 14:07Speaker 1: to one of these events, you really shouldn't be losing
- 14:10Speaker 1: your mind at whoever's headlining it because you've been invited
- 14:13Speaker 1: for a reason. That being said, though, I also don't
- 14:15Speaker 1: think that you should be arrogant and, you know, just
- 14:19Speaker 1: be like, hey, babe, to Hailey Bieber. I think you
- 14:21Speaker 1: should still speak to the person with respect and remember
- 14:25Speaker 1: that they're headlining the event.
- 14:26Speaker 2: They're an international celebrity. you are a guest attending.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think ultimately it was just cringe that
- 14:33Speaker 1: the influencer told her to act her place.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Like no one wants to hear that.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And I think Pia was probably being a bit of
- 14:38Speaker 1: a pick me by saying, oh, I'm definitely not in
- 14:42Speaker 1: her level. Like it was a very popular message for
- 14:44Speaker 1: her to share with her followers.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I'm famous for my, for a smoky eye.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Mainstream media are reporting that Victoria Beckham has broken her
- 14:58Speaker 1: silence on her estrangement from her son, Brooklyn. The reality
- 15:03Speaker 1: is not as dramatic as the headline makes out though, Kate.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Can you tell us what's actually gone on?
- 15:08Speaker 2: Well, unfortunately for.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Those of us wanting more insight into the family drama,
- 15:13Speaker 1: Victoria has not dished the dirt on her son. She has, however,
- 15:17Speaker 1: publicly addressed the feud for the first time in an
- 15:20Speaker 1: interview with the And her comments come three months after
- 15:24Speaker 1: Brooklyn's six-page Instagram statement where he accused his parents of
- 15:29Speaker 1: trying to ruin his marriage and putting brand Beckham before
- 15:32Speaker 1: anything else. Now, when asked about her estrangement from her son,
- 15:37Speaker 1: Victoria avoided referring to Brooklyn by name and said, we
- 15:41Speaker 1: love our children so much. We've always tried to be
- 15:43Speaker 1: the best parents that we can be. And you know,
- 15:46Speaker 1: we've been in the public eye for more than 30
- 15:48Speaker 1: years right now, And all we've ever tried to do
- 15:50Speaker 1: is protect our children and love our children. And you know,
- 15:53Speaker 1: that's all I really want to say about it. So
- 15:56Speaker 1: she really didn't say much except for the fact that
- 15:59Speaker 1: they love their children. So reading between the lines, she's saying,
- 16:02Speaker 1: we love our children. We've done everything we can to
- 16:05Speaker 1: protect them. I wonder if that's a bit of a
- 16:07Speaker 1: pot shot at Nicola. And we've tried to be the
- 16:10Speaker 1: best parents that we can be. Yeah.
- 16:12Speaker 2: And it's not our fault that our son's acting out
- 16:14Speaker 2: like this. Like a spoiled brat.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Now, in terms of this feature in the Wall Street Journal,
- 16:19Speaker 1: it was largely focused on her fashion and beauty brand.
- 16:22Speaker 1: So she was asked if the negative press had affected
- 16:25Speaker 1: her brand and she said no. There are also a
- 16:28Speaker 1: couple of other quotes that you could read into. So
- 16:31Speaker 1: she said, being a parent of young adult children and
- 16:33Speaker 1: adult children, gosh, I mean, it's very different from having
- 16:36Speaker 1: little children. She then said, I think we're trying to
- 16:39Speaker 1: do the best we can. She also made a comment
- 16:42Speaker 1: that when she gave birth to Brooklyn, who was her
- 16:45Speaker 1: first son, She was 24 and almost a child herself.
- 16:49Speaker 1: So I wondered if this was a bit of a
- 16:50Speaker 1: nod towards the fact that Brooklyn's only 27 and maybe
- 16:53Speaker 1: he doesn't really know what he's doing at the moment
- 16:55Speaker 1: because he's only a kid. I think she was very
- 16:57Speaker 1: intentional about the words that she used in this interview
- 17:01Speaker 1: and she would have spoken to her PR team in
- 17:03Speaker 1: depth before taking part in this interview and how her
- 17:06Speaker 1: words could come across and maybe explain the way that
- 17:09Speaker 1: she could still come across as being polite about him,
- 17:12Speaker 1: but sort of trying to point out things to the
- 17:14Speaker 1: general public.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, this interview from.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Victoria really isn't dramatically out of character for Brand Beckham.
- 17:20Speaker 1: They are all about extreme image control. What it has signalled, though,
- 17:25Speaker 1: is this notable shift in how they're dealing with the
- 17:28Speaker 1: family dramas. So rather than tackling this issue with silence,
- 17:32Speaker 1: which is how they usually deal with the early stages
- 17:35Speaker 1: of dramas like this, They're now dealing with it with
- 17:38Speaker 1: very controlled commentary. And what Victoria's statement has done is
- 17:42Speaker 1: formally acknowledge that there is an issue, even if she's
- 17:44Speaker 1: been vague about what's going on behind the scenes. Yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I mean, I think it makes sense to change tack
- 17:49Speaker 1: because in this instance, it really has been taken out
- 17:51Speaker 1: of their hands because Brooklyn has gone public with this information.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So they can no longer pretend that it's not happening
- 17:58Speaker 1: and that it's all just rumours. I also wonder if
- 18:00Speaker 1: they've chosen to acknowledge it considering they have a lot
- 18:03Speaker 1: of public support. Because when this all broke, I think
- 18:07Speaker 1: Brooklyn was expecting everyone to go, oh my God, the
- 18:10Speaker 1: Beckhams are horrible.
- 18:11Speaker 2: We're team Brooklyn.
- 18:12Speaker 1: But the reception definitely has been pro the Beckhams. Yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And I think they're also at this point where silence
- 18:18Speaker 1: can no longer control the narrative. It's a bit like
- 18:21Speaker 1: what we're seeing happen with the royal family. I mean,
- 18:23Speaker 1: they've always gone by that motto, never complain, never explain. However,
- 18:27Speaker 1: that is no longer working anymore, particularly in this social
- 18:30Speaker 1: media world that we're living in where anyone.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Can put out public commentary.
- 18:35Speaker 1: And I think she's done a good job with her
- 18:36Speaker 1: statement because she didn't go out there and bash Brooklyn
- 18:39Speaker 1: or address the allegations. She didn't go into too much detail,
- 18:42Speaker 1: but the statement would have pulled on the heartstrings of parents.
- 18:45Speaker 1: To me, it feels like a bit of damage control
- 18:47Speaker 1: as well. She's trying to repair Brand Beckham and she's
- 18:50Speaker 1: doing so by sort of tiptoeing around the issue whilst
- 18:54Speaker 1: reiterating that she loves her child. And she may be
- 18:57Speaker 1: hoping that Brooklyn hears her comments because her and David
- 19:00Speaker 1: seem pretty keen to get Brooklyn back in the family.
- 19:03Speaker 1: They've posted a few things for his birthday. Maybe they're
- 19:06Speaker 1: hoping he sees the commentary and gets in touch.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I think that's a bit earnest.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I think this is all about repairing Brand Beckham, particularly
- 19:14Speaker 1: because this all blew up after Brooklyn asked Victoria to
- 19:17Speaker 1: stop talking about him publicly and posting about him on
- 19:21Speaker 1: social media. he definitely doesn't want to appear on her
- 19:24Speaker 1: social media. So I don't think this has anything to
- 19:26Speaker 1: do with trying to patch things up with him. I
- 19:28Speaker 1: think that would be going on behind the scenes. I
- 19:30Speaker 1: think it's a bit of both. I definitely think that
- 19:32Speaker 1: they want to repair Bran Beckham, but ultimately they want
- 19:36Speaker 1: their son back. And this is their only way of
- 19:39Speaker 1: being able to reach out to him. He's blocked them
- 19:41Speaker 1: on Instagram. Presumably he's probably blocked their phone numbers and
- 19:44Speaker 1: their emails as well. This is their way of trying
- 19:48Speaker 1: to speak to him through the media, which is so sad.
- 19:50Speaker 1: The timing is also really interesting because the article came
- 19:53Speaker 1: out on Thursday and Victoria celebrated her 52nd birthday on Friday.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Side note, I can't believe it's been two years since
- 20:00Speaker 1: her 50th. And it seemed like David was working in
- 20:03Speaker 1: overdrive for the fact that Victoria wouldn't be receiving a
- 20:06Speaker 1: birthday message from Brooklyn. So he wrote, happy birthday to
- 20:09Speaker 1: the one and only Posh Spice. We love you so
- 20:12Speaker 1: much and we'll make sure you have the most special
- 20:14Speaker 1: day as the best wife, mum, friend, and of course,
- 20:16Speaker 1: gym partner you deserve too.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Happy birthday. We love you.
- 20:20Speaker 1: That's the sad thing about birthdays because so many people
- 20:23Speaker 1: in your life will go out of their way to
- 20:25Speaker 1: do lovely things for you. But Often it's the people
- 20:28Speaker 1: who don't contact you that you notice more and can
- 20:31Speaker 1: be really heartbreaking. There's always that thing that people say
- 20:34Speaker 1: they cry on their birthday and it's probably because of
- 20:36Speaker 1: the people who haven't reached out or it reminds you
- 20:39Speaker 1: of the people that aren't in your life anymore.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Every day for 10 years, I've been bullied and attacked
- 20:46Speaker 4: and I was the most trolled person in the entire world.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Man or woman.
- 20:50Speaker 4: I'm still here. And so when I think of all
- 20:53Speaker 4: of you and what you're experiencing, I think so much
- 20:56Speaker 4: of that is... Having to realise that, you know, that industry,
- 20:59Speaker 4: that billion dollar industry that is completely anchored and predicated
- 21:05Speaker 4: on cruelty to get clicks, that's not going to change.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received a rock star reception
- 21:13Speaker 1: when they jetted into Australia last week for a whirlwind
- 21:17Speaker 1: four day visit. The often divisive couple appeared to win
- 21:20Speaker 1: over the public with reports suggesting Buckingham Palace's worst fears
- 21:24Speaker 1: may be coming true. Now, so very early on, Harry
- 21:28Speaker 1: and Meghan's team shot down suggestions that this was a
- 21:30Speaker 1: royal tour. Yeah, in the lead up to Harry and
- 21:33Speaker 1: Meghan touching down in Australia, their team was adamant this
- 21:36Speaker 1: was not.
- 21:37Speaker 2: A royal tour.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And they were technically right because when they were last
- 21:41Speaker 1: here in 2018, they were hosted by the federal government
- 21:44Speaker 1: and they also embarked on a 16-day tour filled with
- 21:48Speaker 1: 76 engagements. This time around, there was no police escort
- 21:52Speaker 1: waiting for them when they got off their commercial Qantas flight.
- 21:55Speaker 1: and they did not stay at government-owned residence. And that
- 21:59Speaker 1: is because Harry and Meghan are, of course, no longer
- 22:02Speaker 1: working royals, so they are not entitled to any of
- 22:04Speaker 1: that treatment. So did the government pay for any of
- 22:07Speaker 1: their security? Because I've heard a lot of complaints about, oh,
- 22:09Speaker 1: why is the Australian government covering for them? Some taxpayer
- 22:12Speaker 1: money did go into security for them, but that's what
- 22:15Speaker 1: happens when any major celebrity comes to Australia.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Oh, so all the boomers can calm down.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Now, Harry and Meghan were visiting Australia as private citizens
- 22:25Speaker 1: for a mix of commercial and charitable commitments, and they
- 22:28Speaker 1: packed a lot into.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Their four-day trip.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So Harry gave a keynote speech at the InterEdge Summit, which,
- 22:35Speaker 1: side note, I want to point out, he didn't actually
- 22:37Speaker 1: get paid for. The money went to charity, while Meghan
- 22:40Speaker 1: headlined her Best Life's Women's Retreat, which ended up costing
- 22:44Speaker 1: $ 2, 000 to $ 3, 000 for a ticket. It's not clear how
- 22:47Speaker 1: much money she got paid for that. Megan also made
- 22:50Speaker 1: a cameo appearance on MasterChef Australia, presumably as a bit
- 22:54Speaker 1: of cross promotion.
- 22:55Speaker 2: For her jam.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I'm actually committing to MasterChef this year. Before Sunday's launch episode,
- 23:00Speaker 1: my husband and I are like, are we going to
- 23:01Speaker 1: do it? Is this the year we actually watch it properly?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Because I used to love it back in the day.
- 23:06Speaker 1: And part of the reason why I want to watch
- 23:08Speaker 1: it is to see Megan on it. And I also
- 23:11Speaker 1: want to know what's going on with these influencers because
- 23:13Speaker 1: there were these photos that dropped of Sophie Keisha, Lily
- 23:15Speaker 1: Brown and Jet Kenny and a bunch of other influencers
- 23:18Speaker 1: on set with Meghan Markle.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Like what is going on? Yeah, it looks like they're contestants.
- 23:22Speaker 1: So I don't know if they're doing a Celebrity MasterChef
- 23:25Speaker 1: this year.
- 23:26Speaker 2: If they are, I would actually commit to tuning in
- 23:28Speaker 2: as well.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Getting back to Harry and Meghan's itinerary, they also visited
- 23:33Speaker 1: the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne as well as a
- 23:35Speaker 1: mental health program at Swinburne University. Harry was also at
- 23:40Speaker 1: a Movember event with the Western Bulldogs where he rubbed
- 23:43Speaker 1: shoulders alongside a couple of influencers, including Steph Glessmith and
- 23:47Speaker 1: Laura Henshaw, as well as Dr.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Golley.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Dr.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Golley was posting everywhere about this event. I mean, he
- 23:54Speaker 2: was in good company there, wasn't he?
- 23:56Speaker 1: I heard that journalists weren't allowed to film or take
- 23:58Speaker 1: notes when Harry spoke at this event. That's why I
- 24:02Speaker 1: don't know how Dr. Golley was allowed to film. Is
- 24:06Speaker 1: it like, oh, you're a doctor, that's fine.
- 24:07Speaker 2: You're not a journalist. He's a doctor. It's fine. He
- 24:10Speaker 2: can do whatever he wants.
- 24:11Speaker 1: It's a weird way to tackle the event from a
- 24:14Speaker 1: media perspective because wouldn't that mean that he would be
- 24:18Speaker 1: quite badly misquoted? Because I heard a journalist speaking on
- 24:21Speaker 1: Mamma Mia and she was retelling what he said in
- 24:24Speaker 1: his own words. And I was like, isn't that really
- 24:26Speaker 1: just like space for.
- 24:27Speaker 2: It to be misinterpreted and people to add on their
- 24:29Speaker 2: own spiel?
- 24:30Speaker 1: Well, I think that because they're no longer royals, they
- 24:33Speaker 1: wanted to speak freely. and get really vulnerable with the
- 24:36Speaker 1: audiences there. And I don't think that they wanted certain
- 24:38Speaker 1: things quoted in the media, which I understand. Some of
- 24:42Speaker 1: the images that really stood out to me on this
- 24:44Speaker 1: royal tour that's not really a royal tour is when
- 24:47Speaker 1: Harry and Meghan met with the Bondi shooting survivors. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 1: I saw them posing alongside a lot of the lifeguards
- 24:53Speaker 1: and it just looked so Australian. I think that those
- 24:56Speaker 1: photos would have gone all over the world and it
- 24:58Speaker 1: was really touching to see them there speaking with the survivors.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I mean, as you say, Kate, this definitely was a
- 25:04Speaker 1: royal tour. I mean, Harry also visited the Australian War Memorial.
- 25:08Speaker 1: They sailed on the Sydney Harbour with Invictus veterans. They
- 25:12Speaker 1: were there putting their best foot forward. This had all
- 25:15Speaker 1: of the touches of a royal tour, but without the titles.
- 25:20Speaker 1: It's quite interesting because before the couple landed in Australia,
- 25:23Speaker 1: the media coverage was fairly negative about the trip. Publications
- 25:27Speaker 1: accused them of trying to monetise their royal status and
- 25:30Speaker 1: They raised concerns, Kate, as you touched on before, about
- 25:33Speaker 1: taxpayer-funded security. And no one quite knew how the Australian
- 25:38Speaker 1: public was going to react to the couple and whether
- 25:41Speaker 1: we'd see people lining the streets to catch a glimpse
- 25:44Speaker 1: of them. Because since 2018, they have been incredibly divisive.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I mean, we've seen their tell-all interviews with Oprah, their documentary,
- 25:51Speaker 1: their autobiographies. They have been very on-the-nose, particularly with boomers.
- 25:56Speaker 1: But it really seems like all was forgiven on this
- 25:59Speaker 1: trip and that they hadn't lost their royal shine.
- 26:01Speaker 2: They were greeted like absolute rock stars.
- 26:04Speaker 1: We saw locals gathering in public spaces, hospitals, Bondi Beach,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and even paying enormous amounts of money just to see
- 26:11Speaker 1: them speaking at private events. It is funny how quickly
- 26:14Speaker 1: people backflip. One second, they're like, I can't stand them.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And then they visit Australia. They give us a little
- 26:19Speaker 1: bit of a nod and say, hey, we remember you guys.
- 26:22Speaker 2: We like it.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Down under and it's like, oh my God, they're the
- 26:24Speaker 1: best people I've ever met. Oh my God, they looked
- 26:27Speaker 1: at me and smiled.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of people interviewed were saying.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Meghan and Harry, they're just normal, friendly people. I mean,
- 26:32Speaker 1: I feel like we all got caught up in this
- 26:34Speaker 1: Sussex fever again. I wonder if it's because Australia doesn't
- 26:37Speaker 1: get many celebrities. So anytime anyone of notoriety visits here,
- 26:41Speaker 1: we feel so lucky and thrilled and we just go nuts.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I mean, this just.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Proves the whole reason why the royal family does royal tours.
- 26:50Speaker 1: It's to actually connect with people and say, hey, we're
- 26:52Speaker 1: humans behind this entity. And I think that's what Harry
- 26:57Speaker 1: and Meghan have done so well. They've gone out into
- 27:00Speaker 1: the public and said, okay, you have this perception of
- 27:02Speaker 1: us that has been created by the media.
- 27:04Speaker 2: This is actually us. We're just normal people.
- 27:06Speaker 1: And I think once you really take the mask off
- 27:08Speaker 1: and get amongst people, that's how you change people's perceptions.
- 27:12Speaker 1: It's safe to say that the royal family would have
- 27:14Speaker 1: been watching this visit very closely because back in 2020
- 27:17Speaker 1: during the Sandringham Summit, Harry and Meghan proposed this exact
- 27:21Speaker 1: arrangement to the Queen. They wanted this half-in, half-out arrangement
- 27:26Speaker 1: where they could split their time between royal duties and
- 27:29Speaker 1: private life and essentially make money independently away from the
- 27:33Speaker 1: royal family. And of course that didn't happen. We had
- 27:36Speaker 1: Megxit in 2020. However, this Australian trip has really changed
- 27:40Speaker 1: things because despite actually not officially being royals, they received
- 27:45Speaker 1: the royal treatment. I mean, crowds were lining the street.
- 27:48Speaker 1: They attended charitable events. The only thing that was different
- 27:51Speaker 1: was they were actually able to pursue their own commercial
- 27:54Speaker 1: projects and make money off this trip. And this trip
- 27:58Speaker 1: generated revenue in ways the palace has tried hard to prevent.
- 28:03Speaker 1: So Sydney Morning Herald journalist Bronte Gosling wrote, Buckingham Palace's
- 28:07Speaker 1: fears have come true. Harry and Meghan can have their
- 28:10Speaker 1: cake and.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Eat it too.
- 28:12Speaker 1: In what would have been a further blow to the palace,
- 28:15Speaker 1: Megan launched her latest business venture as soon as they
- 28:17Speaker 1: touched down in Australia. So she has launched a profile
- 28:21Speaker 1: on AI fashion platform OneOff. So OneOff is a fashion
- 28:25Speaker 1: discovery platform, very similar to LTK, where public figures can
- 28:30Speaker 1: share details of their outfits with shoppable affiliate links. So
- 28:34Speaker 1: not only is she making money off these affiliate links,
- 28:36Speaker 1: but she is also a new investor in this platform.
- 28:40Speaker 1: This is a genius move by Megan off the back
- 28:42Speaker 1: of this Australian tour because all eyes are on her.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Everyone wants to know what she's wearing and where they
- 28:48Speaker 1: can buy it from. And she's giving them that information
- 28:51Speaker 1: through this app. And she's making a percentage off the sales. Yeah,
- 28:55Speaker 1: while she was in Australia, they added seven shoppable looks
- 28:58Speaker 1: from her tour. And Megan really lent into Australian-owned brands
- 29:02Speaker 1: during the tour. So she championed a lot of local
- 29:05Speaker 1: fashion designers, including Karen Gee, St. Agnes, Camilla and Mark
- 29:09Speaker 1: and Scanlan and Theodore. I was obsessed with her looks
- 29:12Speaker 1: and I shared this on Instagram and someone questioned me.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Saying, why all of the looks are so basic?
- 29:18Speaker 1: And I answered that listener by saying, well, I guess
- 29:20Speaker 1: I'm a bit of a basic bitch because I just
- 29:22Speaker 1: think that everything she wears just looks so clean and
- 29:25Speaker 1: put together.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yes, it's simple.
- 29:27Speaker 1: But it always looks amazing. The issue is you click
- 29:29Speaker 1: on it and go, oh, I probably could afford this.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And then the shirt's like $ 600. Like someone needs to
- 29:34Speaker 1: post the dupes of the outfit. I really wanted her
- 29:36Speaker 1: mama shirt that she was wearing. I reckon we should
- 29:38Speaker 1: all buy one and get it and wear it. on
- 29:40Speaker 1: our mom's group podcast I didn't like that one I
- 29:42Speaker 1: thought that was probably her worst look I'm not into
- 29:44Speaker 1: graphic t-shirts they remind me of like 2010 I liked
- 29:48Speaker 1: how Harry and Meghan were matching in khaki at one
- 29:51Speaker 1: point that was from Saint Agni I mean she's clearly
- 29:53Speaker 1: making bank off this but she isn't doing anything to
- 29:56Speaker 1: mend the bridges between her and the royal family A
- 29:59Speaker 1: publication has reported that sources close to the royal family
- 30:03Speaker 1: are aghast that Meghan is using her Australian charity stops
- 30:06Speaker 1: with Prince Harry to sell clothes. Page Six, which is
- 30:10Speaker 1: a celebrity gossip section of the New York Post, wrote,
- 30:12Speaker 1: the Queen must be rolling over in her grave over
- 30:14Speaker 1: Meghan Markle's outfit promotion during charity stops. I personally think
- 30:19Speaker 1: it's only fair that Meghan can benefit from what's been
- 30:22Speaker 1: dubbed the Meghan effect. I mean, for so long we've
- 30:25Speaker 1: heard about how whenever Meghan steps out in something that
- 30:28Speaker 1: that item of clothing instantly sells out. Why can't she
- 30:32Speaker 1: profit off it? Particularly because now she's not getting handouts
- 30:36Speaker 1: from the royal family. She's having to make.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Her own money.
- 30:38Speaker 1: She's built her own name as a fashion icon.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Why is it only influencers who can benefit off this?
- 30:44Speaker 2: Why can't she? Look, I don't think she.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Needs the handouts from affiliate links. I understand where the
- 30:49Speaker 1: royal family are coming from in that this is just
- 30:51Speaker 1: so different to what they're used to. We've never seen
- 30:54Speaker 1: someone who is royal adjacent actually making money off their fashion,
- 30:59Speaker 1: which is ironic considering that the role of.
- 31:02Speaker 2: The princess essentially is to be a.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Little bit of a clothes horse and stand there and
- 31:06Speaker 1: look pretty and wave and not say anything offensive. And
- 31:09Speaker 1: I actually love that Meghan Markle is making money off
- 31:12Speaker 1: this fashion influence that she clearly has.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Like, why not? I think it's absolute genius.
- 31:17Speaker 1: And I also think at the same time, she is
- 31:19Speaker 1: giving increased visibility to a lot of brands, particularly local
- 31:23Speaker 1: brands through her trip to Australia. I think if Princess
- 31:26Speaker 1: Diana was living in this era, she would have done
- 31:28Speaker 1: the same thing once leaving the royal family.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Also, at least she's.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Buying the clothes herself. These aren't clothes bought from taxpayer
- 31:34Speaker 1: dollars like Princess Kate's. Well, I don't know if she's
- 31:37Speaker 1: necessarily buying the clothes or she's being gifted the clothes
- 31:40Speaker 1: by these brands or there's some sort of other arrangement,
- 31:43Speaker 1: but at the same time, not from taxpayer money. It's
- 31:46Speaker 1: funny because as soon as the photo started coming out
- 31:49Speaker 1: of Megan on this tour, I was like, I need
- 31:52Speaker 1: everything she's wearing. I want to find out where it's from.
- 31:54Speaker 1: And it's so great that now there is one place
- 31:57Speaker 1: I can go and shop all of her looks from.
- 31:58Speaker 2: There's a lot of our time.
- 32:00Speaker 1: It does.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Well, that is where we're going to leave things today.
- 32:02Speaker 1: If you want to hear more from us, we drop
- 32:04Speaker 1: a bonus episode of Outspoken every Thursday for Outspoken Plus subscribers.
- 32:09Speaker 1: All the details to sign up are in our show notes.
- 32:12Speaker 1: We also have a second podcast called.
- 32:15Speaker 2: The Mums Group. It's basically a virtual mother's group.
- 32:19Speaker 1: If you want to listen to that, it's available on Apple, Spotify,
- 32:22Speaker 1: or wherever you get your podcasts.
- 32:24Speaker 2: This podcast was recorded on.
- 32:26Speaker 1: The traditional land of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains.
- 32:29Speaker 2: We pay respect to elders past and present.
