- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans, welcome in to Dove All Daily, presented by Jinjag.com.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Deluga, thanks so much for being here.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: Sunday, August, seventeenth.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Did not think we would be recording this evening, but a pretty interesting news story.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: involving your Jacksonville Jaguars, the Jaguars have traded with the New Orleans Saints.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, the same New Orleans Saints, who they played against today in New Orleans and tied in pre-season.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: There's pointing and ink but overall, pretty positive vibes coming from that game for the Jaguars.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: are trading for veteran defensive tackle, Colin Saunders from the New Orleans Saints.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Colin Saunders started against the Jaguar today and, again, according to Tom Bellicero, is now joining them.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: So that's pretty funny.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the two teams tied today in New Orleans.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Wars make a move for one of their veteran defensive players and seeing the Jack Wars make a move at the defensive tackle position not a big surprise because by frankly I mean they could use some help you've got Devon who's going to be a
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: big interior run defender somebody who can push the pocket for you a little bit you've got Austin Johnson who is kind of similar in that same style of play I think both of them can execute for you upfront and you know do their job play the run neither is going to be like an explosive past rusher in any way shape or form in my opinion
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: But you also have Tyler Lacy, who has been playing a lot throughout training camp.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: You've got Jordan Jefferson.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: You've got Mason Smith, who has now been activated this week for the Jaguar second round pick last year, who has a ton of upside as a three down player, Eric Armstrong, who you're still waiting to see what the deal is there when he's gonna be ready to play.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Is this an indication that maybe he won't be ready to play as quickly as the Jaguar is won't?
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: And this is more of a news
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: video than it is like breaking down what Colin Saunders brings to the Jack Wars in terms of the tape.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't watched him in a couple years.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: He did play for the chiefs back when they were making Super Bowl runs, which of course they're still making runs to the Super Bowl.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: But he was originally drafted by the chiefs in the third round in two thousand nineteen.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: Cannot believe it's been that long.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: I remember very well.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: that draft but played there for three years then went to New Orleans and he was there in twenty twenty three twenty twenty four was obviously going to be there this year but now he is going to be joining the Jaguars we don't know yet the compensation I have to imagine for twenty nine year old defensive tackle who is really going to be a rotational type of player you're not given up a ton
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: probably very late day three draft capital if I had to guess.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know exactly yet.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: We'll find out those details later.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: But again, got to be day three late day three pick.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, I just could can't imagine it being anything else really.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: But where does he fit in for this Jaguar's group?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: Again, the answer to that is kind of dependent on Mason Smith's health and Eric Rarmstadt's health.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: If Mason Smith and Eric Rarmstadt are healthy, he's got Devon Hamilton, Austin Johnson, Tyler Lacy, Jordan Jefferson, I would probably put Colin somewhere in the middle there.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I would have him behind Mason Smith, Devon Hamilton, Eric Rarmstadt,
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: Probably Austin Johnson again.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: got to dive into the tape a little bit tomorrow morning for Colin Saunders and we'll break down like exactly what he's bringing to the team.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: But again, a twenty nine year old defensive tackle.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Just turned twenty nine earlier this month last week.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: So happy to birthday six feet, three hundred twenty four pounds he's listed at and over the last couple of years he's, you know, done some decent things in the past
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he might bring a little bit more to your past rush than some of the other guys, but he's also a very big body on the interior.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's played in the A-gap, he's played in the B-gap, so he's got had a little bit of a very varied role for the Saints the last couple years.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: And when he was in Kansas City, he was playing a lot more in the big app.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: So that's more of that penetration style generally.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: didn't get a ton of run with Kansas City after his rookie year.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: Was a rotational player, but not in a heavy rotation until twenty twenty two he did start to play more for the chiefs there.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then twenty twenty three and twenty twenty four played a lot for the New Orleans Saints.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think the chiefs obviously drafted him to be someone that could be a starter for them.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Saints envisioned that as well.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I think at this point in his career, joining this Jaguar team, it's going to be as a rotational player.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: What type of rotational player will he be in this scheme again?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: Got to dive into it more.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: But with the injuries that the Jaguar has had at the position right now, or guys coming back from injury, I guess you should say, because Eric Armstrong said, is on the practice field working, not in team yet, Mason Smith on the practice field working, not in team yet.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really know, I don't think you make a trade at this point, August, seventeenth, unless you think that this guy's gonna make your team.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: And again, the Jaguar saw him today.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: He played against them today, which is just really unique and interesting circumstances for this trade.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: So they saw that.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: They saw what they saw today, and I think that they liked it enough to say, hey, can this guy help us get through this season?
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Can he help us have a better rotation?
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: contribute to what we've got on the interior.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: They think the answer is yes.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: And you're hopeful that
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, at least I'm hopeful that Mason Smith and Eric arms said are the guys getting the two most reps on the interior this year.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that's going to be the case with their recovery timelines, at least early on, but that's my hope.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: I do really like Austin Johnson's game.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think Devon Hamilton is playing well.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: They view him as more of that nose tackle.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, this is going to be really interesting rotation to see what ends up playing out with all these guys.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's smart to address this spot.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: spend something we've been talking about.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they needed more bodies that have experience in this room when you talk about not having arms dead and Smith active right now.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: Technically active, but not active in the team portion of practice, right?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I get it.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Excited to dive into his tape from twenty twenty four tomorrow morning.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: I got to go get the N-laws this evening from the airport.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: So don't have time to get into all that right now, but I do think adding a veteran who they have obviously like what they saw today and like what they have seen over the last couple years in New Orleans enough to say, hey, let's go get this guy and see what he can do for us.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't imagine they'd be giving up anything more than a very late round draft pick, late day three, as I mentioned.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're only giving up a late day three pick, does that mean Collins Sanders has to have a
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: Big time roll on your team, no, and absolutely doesn't.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to see how it plays out here with the Jaguar's defensive tackle spot.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: But I do appreciate that this regime is looking to upgrade and kind of fortify the interior and see if they can build something that looks a little bit better than what we've seen so far in training camp and the preseason on the interior of that defensive line.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: because they've got the guys on the edge.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think to do a really good job.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now Colin Saunders will get his chance to help out here.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
