- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's up, everybody, It's Jeff
- 0:15Speaker 1: Mosher and Adam Kaplan and we're going to finish off
- 0:18Speaker 1: in this podcast series the Offense our depth chart Intel.
- 0:22Speaker 1: We have gone through each position on offense so far
- 0:25Speaker 1: except for the offensive line. We saved the best for last,
- 0:28Speaker 1: and we saved the most for last on offense because
- 0:30Speaker 1: there's a ton of guys to discuss. Adam, and this
- 0:34Speaker 1: is an interesting year for the offensive line because of
- 0:37Speaker 1: the injury issues that had had on the interior last year.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Because the outside lane Johnson may very well be entering
- 0:44Speaker 1: his final year. And over the last two years, the
- 0:48Speaker 1: Eagles of stockpiled young offensive linemen in the last two
- 0:52Speaker 1: drafts and rookie free agent signings to the point where
- 0:54Speaker 1: we got a lot of guys to talk to and about.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And also you heard Howie Roseman even say, Hey, if
- 1:01Speaker 1: I got to keep ten or eleven offensive lineman, I'm
- 1:03Speaker 1: gonna do it. So that's gonna be a really interesting
- 1:07Speaker 1: training camp battle between all these guys and how he
- 1:10Speaker 1: is brought in.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Well, they have so many developmental offensive linemen, like guys
- 1:13Speaker 2: who are not ready, but you hope in a couple
- 1:16Speaker 2: of years have a key role, and now you have
- 1:19Speaker 2: this new offensive line blocking scheme. You have a brain
- 1:23Speaker 2: new offensive scheme, and you got new coaches, So there's
- 1:25Speaker 2: a lot to sift through. Roles are going to develop
- 1:30Speaker 2: through OTAs, particularly once the veterans come in. Then you
- 1:34Speaker 2: get a better idea of what it looks like. If
- 1:36Speaker 2: you're the coaches, once you get to training camp, when
- 1:39Speaker 2: you could have live contact that's a big deal, then
- 1:42Speaker 2: you're going to get a much better idea of where
- 1:44Speaker 2: these guys are.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yeah, so there's so unlike quarterback and tight end and
- 1:48Speaker 1: running back. Right, there's so many Not only is there
- 1:50Speaker 1: the offensive line, but there's three different positions on it,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and then backups who sort of specialize in certain positions.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So there's a lot to sift through here. Let's start
- 1:59Speaker 1: off with the starters because it's a little bit of
- 2:02Speaker 1: a quicker conversation. There's really no competition, uh for the starters,
- 2:07Speaker 1: But I do want to throw a caveat question in
- 2:10Speaker 1: there for you. We know the starters are my Lotta
- 2:12Speaker 1: and Lord and Lane Johnson a tackle. We know Cam
- 2:15Speaker 1: Jurgens is the starting center. We know Landon Dickerson's left guard,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and Tyler Stein's right guard. So here's my question to
- 2:22Speaker 1: ponder for you see what you think about it. Uh,
- 2:25Speaker 1: there's no competition here for the starting spots. But to me,
- 2:29Speaker 1: Tyler Steen does enter year four, he doesn't have a
- 2:33Speaker 1: contract extension. I do wonder is there anybody that the
- 2:37Speaker 1: Eagles are brought in over the last three years who,
- 2:40Speaker 1: if they have a really good camp, you can see
- 2:43Speaker 1: pushing Stein into an end of camp trade to make
- 2:46Speaker 1: room for.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, well, okay, if Michael Morris shocks the
- 2:52Speaker 2: world right and they do, we'll have to see which
- 2:55Speaker 2: guard spot they're gonna line him up at. If he
- 2:58Speaker 2: just skyle, he's got a long way to go. Uh,
- 3:01Speaker 2: there's a reason why he's a six round pick technique
- 3:03Speaker 2: and so forth. Yeah, I mean, on the surface, no,
- 3:07Speaker 2: there should not be any competition. How he made it
- 3:09Speaker 2: clear who the start was going to be at the combine.
- 3:12Speaker 2: What we said is let's get through the draft first.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Before that we stamp at and you could you could
- 3:16Speaker 2: pretty much stamp it. The question is really simple in
- 3:20Speaker 2: terms of the guard spot, who's the first guy off
- 3:22Speaker 2: the bench, Like they don't have that guy right now?
- 3:25Speaker 2: That that to me is a big concern. If Dickerson,
- 3:28Speaker 2: who gets hurt a lot, gets if he's hurt again,
- 3:33Speaker 2: like what are they going to do? Like, who's that
- 3:35Speaker 2: guy right now? They don't have that swing guard? Like
- 3:38Speaker 2: Drew Kennell is a center who can play guard. That's
- 3:41Speaker 2: the way the league sees him. They feel really good
- 3:44Speaker 2: about him being jurgens backup. That's fine. Willie Lampkin is
- 3:49Speaker 2: a could play guard, he could play center. A lot
- 3:51Speaker 2: of teams don't think he could play in the NFL
- 3:53Speaker 2: because he's too short. Well he's got he's got a shot,
- 3:56Speaker 2: because right now, who's the back top backup guard.
- 4:00Speaker 1: See that's where I would I would say I would
- 4:03Speaker 1: probably bank on Kendall being able to do it because
- 4:06Speaker 1: of his size over Lampkin, who's so short, I like
- 4:10Speaker 1: five to nine. I just don't know. Yeah, he's a
- 4:14Speaker 1: he's a short dude. I know he's powerful, but he
- 4:17Speaker 1: has no playing experience. If Jeff Staltlin were still the
- 4:21Speaker 1: offensive line coach, I could probably sit here and talk
- 4:24Speaker 1: you into the fact that the same things being said
- 4:26Speaker 1: about Kendall now or what was said about Cam Jurgen's
- 4:30Speaker 1: coming out of college. He was a tight end then
- 4:32Speaker 1: a center. He had never played guard. He's not exactly
- 4:35Speaker 1: very big, but those two he wound up playing right
- 4:37Speaker 1: guard for a year when no one really thought of
- 4:40Speaker 1: anything as other than a center, because that was his
- 4:41Speaker 1: only experience and that's where his size projected. But Stoutlin
- 4:45Speaker 1: made it work if he were still the offensive line coach.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I think I could make an argument for why Kendall
- 4:50Speaker 1: could make it work at guard in a similar way.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But I would say Jurgens is a way better athlete
- 4:57Speaker 1: much yeah, as I say better athlete, stronger athlete. I
- 5:00Speaker 1: just so I'm agreeing with you. I think the only
- 5:03Speaker 1: I think Mike and Morris would have to really knock
- 5:05Speaker 1: people's socks off to be considered the top backup infim,
- 5:09Speaker 1: they don't have one. They don't have one, right That was.
- 5:12Speaker 2: The whole point. They just don't have that guy right now,
- 5:14Speaker 2: that that's a it's actually a very big concern, very
- 5:19Speaker 2: big concern. Now those concerns could be alleviated un lessened
- 5:25Speaker 2: if they start working Kenmelmore. They already know what he
- 5:30Speaker 2: is as the center. They feel pretty good about it.
- 5:32Speaker 2: If they work them in training camp quite a bit
- 5:35Speaker 2: and it and it starts to look pretty good. He
- 5:37Speaker 2: holds his own where they go. You know what, maybe
- 5:40Speaker 2: we'll just hold off on that veteran guard. You know,
- 5:42Speaker 2: maybe they hold off on that and you like that
- 5:45Speaker 2: guard by the way, he pretty much if they bring
- 5:46Speaker 2: a veteran and he's got to be able to play
- 5:48Speaker 2: both left and right guard, he can't just be one side.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You just can't do that.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Right. So, if you're the Eagles, right and you're Chris
- 5:55Speaker 1: Cooper and you've got to come up with a second
- 5:57Speaker 1: string offensive line for the first week of OTAs, are
- 6:00Speaker 1: you playing Drew Kendall at center and then making Micah
- 6:03Speaker 1: Morris a guard, in Holland Pierce a guard or Willy
- 6:07Speaker 1: Lampkin a guard, or are you playing Willy Lampkin at
- 6:09Speaker 1: center so that you can give Drew Kendall some right
- 6:13Speaker 1: guard second team reps to see if he can cross
- 6:15Speaker 1: train and handle it. I think that's a fair question
- 6:18Speaker 1: and something I'd be interested in seeing what they do.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Once the veterans get you know, once we get into
- 6:27Speaker 2: particularly mandatory OTA, you'd really because that's the last practice,
- 6:30Speaker 2: but those are the last practice before trading camp starts
- 6:32Speaker 2: and they're off for five and a half weeks. I
- 6:37Speaker 2: would think they would cross train, it'd start cross training
- 6:40Speaker 2: a little bit with Lampkin because he could do both.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Just get an idea because the guy didn't play last season.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Just get an idea of where he's at. Because if
- 6:48Speaker 2: you really look at it, right, this is what the
- 6:50Speaker 2: show's about. We kind of give you what we know
- 6:51Speaker 2: about how the league sees these players. And Lampkin guard center,
- 6:56Speaker 2: Kendall guard center, Holland Pierce is playing a tackle who
- 7:00Speaker 2: if you absolutely have to, could play guard, which they
- 7:03Speaker 2: did a little bit of a little bit.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Of working hard last year a little bit, right.
- 7:07Speaker 2: A little bit. I watched it, a little bit of
- 7:08Speaker 2: guard and drinking. He's just he's that's a Stout special there, right,
- 7:13Speaker 2: Like that That's the thing we don't know about this
- 7:16Speaker 2: new offensive line coach, right, Stout sees big guys a
- 7:20Speaker 2: lot of them being able to play guard, where a
- 7:22Speaker 2: lot of coaches don't see that. Like that's that's what
- 7:24Speaker 2: you miss about having Stalin here, his ability to see
- 7:27Speaker 2: things that others don't see, even front offices. You know,
- 7:30Speaker 2: most front offices don't see Holman Piers as a guard.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Is that how long he is?
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yep?
- 7:35Speaker 2: You know. So that's something we're going to have a
- 7:38Speaker 2: keen eye on because they it's great now that they
- 7:40Speaker 2: have all these young linemen. This is what we've talked
- 7:42Speaker 2: about for a couple years, worthy development offensive lineman. They've
- 7:45Speaker 2: got them now, that's not the problem. The problem is
- 7:47Speaker 2: how do they fit and how could they perform? They
- 7:48Speaker 2: don't know that yet. They're gonna find out.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Just to let people understand. I know we've talked about
- 7:53Speaker 1: it before, but Holland Pierce, despite the fact that he
- 7:55Speaker 1: did cross train a little guard. We saw it last year.
- 7:58Speaker 1: He is six eight, three hundred and forty one pounds,
- 8:02Speaker 1: eighty eight and a quarter inch wingspan. We have gone
- 8:04Speaker 1: on and on about that, thirty six inch arms and
- 8:08Speaker 1: surprisingly his hands are under ten inch, but they're close.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It's like nine and seven eighths or something like that.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So he has absolute tackle, body, tackles, tackle, everything that
- 8:19Speaker 1: you want. But we know that Staltlin likes to cross train.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I don't know. I think you're you're hitting this on
- 8:23Speaker 1: the head. Well, we have no idea. I Chris Cooper
- 8:25Speaker 1: is gonna look at this guy and be like, why
- 8:27Speaker 1: is he Why are we working? He's a tackle, He's
- 8:30Speaker 1: got a tackle his body and I don't know that
- 8:32Speaker 1: he did any of the athletic testing. I'm looking for
- 8:35Speaker 1: it now to see if you like, I ran some
- 8:37Speaker 1: kind of athlete that he was piers.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, at the combine, he did not. He did not. Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 2: six eight and three eighths of an inch. Okay, so
- 8:48Speaker 2: just under six foot nine, right, three forty one. Now
- 8:51Speaker 2: he needs to build his body up. We were told
- 8:53Speaker 2: thirty six inch arms, which is crazy. Eighty eight and
- 8:56Speaker 2: a quarter wingspan nine and seven eighths is not small,
- 8:59Speaker 2: but side you would think his hands would be like
- 9:01Speaker 2: ten and a half. They're not. But his thing was
- 9:05Speaker 2: filling out his body in terms of getting like dropping weight,
- 9:09Speaker 2: getting stronger, Stronger is not being three haiti stronger is
- 9:15Speaker 2: technique wise. Grecols talking about this with Jordan Davis. Jordan
- 9:20Speaker 2: Davis would make himself smaller when he had a bad technique. Right,
- 9:23Speaker 2: Guys who are big, they don't have proper technique make
- 9:26Speaker 2: themselves smaller. They don't. They make themselves less strong. So
- 9:30Speaker 2: that's just something to watch. But they've got the developmental guys.
- 9:34Speaker 2: But the concern is guard Willie Lampkin is a guy
- 9:36Speaker 2: a lot of most teams didn't. That's why he wasn't drafted.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Biggles told you what they thought. They didn't draft him.
- 9:40Speaker 2: He wasn't drafted. They did play them with waivers because
- 9:43Speaker 2: they like them. But he's got a long way to
- 9:46Speaker 2: go here. It's just something if you will have uh
- 9:49Speaker 2: training pre training camp storylines. The who lines up at
- 9:54Speaker 2: backup guard is going to be a top five for me.
- 9:56Speaker 2: It might not be for other people, sure as hell
- 9:57Speaker 2: is for me because with Dickerson's injury, they're they're there
- 10:00Speaker 2: are one injury away and who the hell knows how
- 10:02Speaker 2: long he'd be out if he gets hurt with his knees. Right,
- 10:06Speaker 2: that's a problem. And that's as John Lynch told me
- 10:10Speaker 2: for an urge GM. You can't solve every issue and
- 10:13Speaker 2: when all season norse should you try? That means you're
- 10:15Speaker 2: reaching when you're trying to do everything.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yep.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But this is a big problem considering different injury history,
- 10:22Speaker 2: and then you've got the other issues as we get
- 10:24Speaker 2: through this lane. Johnson's age and injury history, Cam Jurgen's
- 10:29Speaker 2: not age, but his injury history. It's if you want
- 10:32Speaker 2: to know how bad they were against the run, look
- 10:34Speaker 2: a look at the run blocking. They were just not
- 10:36Speaker 2: themselves correct.
- 10:38Speaker 1: The only other candidate really inside for at center is
- 10:41Speaker 1: Jake Majors. He's a guy who had I think thirty
- 10:44Speaker 1: six college starts at Texas. You know, pretty high level
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Texas A and m right high level though
- 10:51Speaker 1: SEC football. So he has a lot of experience, and
- 10:54Speaker 1: he was on the practice squad last year, but you
- 10:56Speaker 1: have the same situation where he is a center by trading.
- 11:00Speaker 1: He's i believe, only played mostly center. He might project
- 11:03Speaker 1: at center guard, but the vast experience that he has
- 11:06Speaker 1: is center.
- 11:07Speaker 2: No, no, you're right, Texas. I'm sorry, it is Texas.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Yeah, yeah, Texas. My bad photo. But here's
- 11:12Speaker 2: the thing with him again. He wasn't drafted last year.
- 11:17Speaker 2: The Bucks sign was an undrafted free agent. Uh, he
- 11:19Speaker 2: had an injury and then they waved him with an
- 11:21Speaker 2: injury settlement. Eagles bring him in, spends the entire time
- 11:26Speaker 2: on the practice squad. He was not on the fifty three.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You don't You just don't know him yet, You really
- 11:32Speaker 2: don't know him. It's nice that he could play guard, center,
- 11:36Speaker 2: and he did start a lot, but there you always
- 11:38Speaker 2: get concerned with a guy who started so many against
- 11:40Speaker 2: Why the hell wasn't he drafted? That's the shot. He's
- 11:43Speaker 2: got some deficiency that clubs just think is a problem. Yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 2: what it is, But that's you know. Now, what's what's
- 11:49Speaker 2: funny is despite all that, he was a combine invite
- 11:52Speaker 2: e six three and three ace three oh six arm. Okay,
- 11:57Speaker 2: here here's part of it. Arms are really short. Yep,
- 12:00Speaker 2: he's singing free as my arms. I'm six foot and
- 12:03Speaker 2: a half inch. My arms are longer. That's not good.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's really that's even short for a center. Right.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Why you're not drafted?
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah, he bends twenty five, which is which is good for,
- 12:15Speaker 2: you know, an undrafted guy. So the nice thing is
- 12:18Speaker 2: they're really young in the backup group and Chris Cooper
- 12:22Speaker 2: the clock's the clock's running. Yeah, let me ask you
- 12:25Speaker 2: this question. Who is the offensive coach ranked them? Like? Okay, Manion,
- 12:32Speaker 2: Aaron moorehead, Chris Cooper, anyone else? Oh? Oh, Ryan mahaffey.
- 12:41Speaker 2: They got a lot of new guys. Who's under the
- 12:43Speaker 2: most most scrutiny?
- 12:45Speaker 1: Oh, man, that's tough. It would have to be man,
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know, it's really tough. So let's break it down
- 12:52Speaker 1: real quick. We're going off rail. But I like it Morehead.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I think Morehead's gonna come under the microscope big time
- 12:59Speaker 1: this year with no Aj Brown. He still has talent
- 13:02Speaker 1: obviously with DeVante Smith at the first round pick, but
- 13:05Speaker 1: it's not the same, so I think that'll be. I
- 13:08Speaker 1: think it'll be very interesting year for him, especially since
- 13:10Speaker 1: he's adapting to a totally new He's a holdover who's
- 13:14Speaker 1: been adapting to a totally new offense. I think that
- 13:16Speaker 1: it impacts him more than say Jamal Singleton because I
- 13:19Speaker 1: don't know that the running backs have to do something
- 13:22Speaker 1: markedly different. Right, The wide receiver is gonna asked to
- 13:25Speaker 1: run different routree for sure, so that'll be he's under
- 13:29Speaker 1: the microscope. Mahlfey as the tight ends coach. Man, they
- 13:33Speaker 1: have so many new guys at that position. Run game
- 13:35Speaker 1: coordinator too, Run game coordinator, Yeah, I would, Yeah, he
- 13:41Speaker 1: really is the guy. But I don't want to also
- 13:43Speaker 1: dismiss Parks Frasier, who's never been a quarterbacks coach. He's
- 13:47Speaker 1: gonna naturally come under a lot of scrutiny because he's
- 13:50Speaker 1: working with Jalen Hurricane.
- 13:52Speaker 2: He's never run a room. He has been assistant quarterbacks coach,
- 13:55Speaker 2: but he's never run the quarterback room right, and that's
- 13:58Speaker 2: a concern of mine. That but I'm putting Chris Cooper
- 14:01Speaker 2: number one.
- 14:01Speaker 1: That you know, if we.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Put a pall out, I don't know if he'll be
- 14:04Speaker 2: a number one, top three, I'm sure, yeah, but I'm
- 14:07Speaker 2: putting up one because unfortunately you have to compare him
- 14:11Speaker 2: to Stoutlin Stout. Maybe it didn't end well and you know,
- 14:14Speaker 2: people want to point the finger on him last year.
- 14:16Speaker 2: That's fine, but his ability to develop lineman is legendary.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I mean, it's incredible. His player development. He's not perfect.
- 14:24Speaker 2: He's involved with Andre Dillard. He didn't work, clear didn't work,
- 14:28Speaker 2: but more often than not home runs I mean getting
- 14:31Speaker 2: BV Big V functional when he had to for Jason
- 14:34Speaker 2: petersay slow start, but then he got him going sure
- 14:37Speaker 2: and that that was incredible. He got ten million year
- 14:41Speaker 2: from the lines because of it. Yeah, he's helped. Uh,
- 14:44Speaker 2: it's he's he's he's now Sean Mannion. The tape will
- 14:49Speaker 2: tell us what it looks like. If it looks great
- 14:50Speaker 2: and it hurts pulling the trigger and passes on time,
- 14:54Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's not a he's on. Of course
- 14:57Speaker 2: he's on the microscope in this town, off its coordinators
- 15:00Speaker 2: do the math.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Yeah, the spirit of your question was about the position coaches,
- 15:05Speaker 1: because the position coach.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Yeah, good point. Yeah, I'm putting I'm putting Chris Cooper
- 15:10Speaker 2: because I just had I question the player development in
- 15:14Speaker 2: his career and why didn't the Vikings bring him back?
- 15:17Speaker 1: Yeah? You know, yeah, No, it's fair, it's fair, and
- 15:21Speaker 1: he's got a lot, it's got a lot of different
- 15:22Speaker 1: guys to work with here, and he's got to get
- 15:24Speaker 1: him As you just mentioned, the clock is ticking. He
- 15:26Speaker 1: has to get this group functional and on the same page,
- 15:30Speaker 1: playing with continuity right from the start. There's no like, oh,
- 15:33Speaker 1: we had a slow start in December, you lose two
- 15:35Speaker 1: games in the I'm just sorry to September. You lose
- 15:38Speaker 1: a game in September or two, and then that all
- 15:40Speaker 1: of a sudden, you know, you're how important one game is,
- 15:42Speaker 1: whether you're trying to get the division, trying to get
- 15:44Speaker 1: the number one seed, trying to get the seventh seed,
- 15:47Speaker 1: whatever it is. One game, two games matters in the NFL.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Mm hmmm, great, all right, So let's take a look
- 15:53Speaker 1: at the outside the tackle position here from a depth standpoint.
- 15:59Speaker 1: They brought back from Johnson. They draft Mark kel Bell
- 16:03Speaker 1: in the third round. Really interesting, another huge, huge guy
- 16:07Speaker 1: almost in the stout one mold. And then those two
- 16:10Speaker 1: guys are part of the mix with the guys they
- 16:12Speaker 1: drafted last year. There was Cameron Williams, there's Miles Hitting.
- 16:16Speaker 1: So they have a bunch of tackles here. You know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: they're trying to find someone that could potentially be a
- 16:23Speaker 1: successor to Lane Johnson. Obviously you would think Mark l
- 16:26Speaker 1: Bell has the best chance being a third round pick,
- 16:28Speaker 1: but even part of him is developmental.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Adm Well, his weight, as we were told, Yeah, that
- 16:36Speaker 2: was the issue around the league, is his weight. He's
- 16:38Speaker 2: moving positions from left to right tackle. The line coaches
- 16:43Speaker 2: we talked around the league, they all said the same thing.
- 16:44Speaker 2: He's not a left tackle at this level. He's just
- 16:46Speaker 2: not based on body type. He's not good enough athlete.
- 16:50Speaker 2: But he's competitive as hell, really cares tough minded kid
- 16:54Speaker 2: from people got in front him before the draft. So
- 16:56Speaker 2: you like that. So the question is, so Fred Johnson
- 17:01Speaker 2: is by something unforeseen and he's going to be the
- 17:04Speaker 2: backup left tackle. He's really the top swing tackle. He's
- 17:08Speaker 2: the backup left right. But on your point, Cam Williams
- 17:12Speaker 2: hit some intriguing snaps against Washington in Week eighteen last year.
- 17:18Speaker 2: The question is if Cam Williams, if the light goes
- 17:21Speaker 2: on for him, if he has a great offseason. I'm
- 17:26Speaker 2: not rolling out Williams. I wouldn't say leapfrog. And they
- 17:31Speaker 2: don't have a depth chart yet. They'll get one, they'll
- 17:33Speaker 2: have one. I just wouldn't rule out that because we
- 17:36Speaker 2: know Fred was Lanne Johnson's backup, that that wasn't a question.
- 17:39Speaker 2: But you also just have to see how these guys develop.
- 17:42Speaker 2: What if Cam Williams makes this incredible jump, you know,
- 17:47Speaker 2: so yeah, right, Fred Johnson's clear of the swing tackle.
- 17:50Speaker 2: But I'm not rolling out Cam Williams somehow by the
- 17:53Speaker 2: end of August, and we'll learn more over the next
- 17:57Speaker 2: weeks and months where Kim Williams is in his development.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And again, these coaches get these guys to scratch. Chris
- 18:04Speaker 2: Cooper doesn't know Fred Johnson, right, one of these guys.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Right. That comes back to your point on Cooper, right,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I mean with Cameron Williams, you felt that if this
- 18:14Speaker 1: kid was gonna have a shot in the NFL, because
- 18:16Speaker 1: he already had the traits and the size it was
- 18:19Speaker 1: getting somebody to get through to him, and that you
- 18:22Speaker 1: felt confident with Jeff stealtlin in and then you saw,
- 18:25Speaker 1: as you mentioned, he played against Washington had some some
- 18:27Speaker 1: probably better than expected reps against them, So you had
- 18:30Speaker 1: something to a foundation to build on. Can Chris Cooper
- 18:33Speaker 1: come in and motivate Williams to build off that foundation
- 18:39Speaker 1: the way you know Staltlan would have done it. I
- 18:40Speaker 1: think that's a huge that I could swing a guy's career,
- 18:43Speaker 1: to be honest with you.
- 18:45Speaker 2: His ability to connect and guys to get to buy in.
- 18:48Speaker 2: These players don't know Chris Cooper, so it's kind of
- 18:52Speaker 2: it's kind of a wait and see, man, I don't
- 18:55Speaker 2: I'm not sure it's a good point you made because
- 18:56Speaker 2: I didn't really thought about that development part as part
- 19:00Speaker 2: of it is reaching your players, get him to buy in.
- 19:03Speaker 2: And Fred Johnson's Fred Johnson's interview when he got after
- 19:07Speaker 2: he was here a year the interview that he did
- 19:10Speaker 2: or maybe was during the season a couple of years
- 19:12Speaker 2: ago was phenomenal. You could find on a YouTube and
- 19:15Speaker 2: there you know, he was very down on himself and
- 19:18Speaker 2: he stout reached him. Yeah, if you able to reach them,
- 19:21Speaker 2: and it was a great interview with Fred opened himself
- 19:23Speaker 2: up and being being real. It was awesome. I just
- 19:26Speaker 2: don't know enough. I'm looking more into Cooper. You know
- 19:28Speaker 2: his background, you know, but yeah, the micro He's severely
- 19:33Speaker 2: on the microscope.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Man.
- 19:34Speaker 2: You following the legend, got a lot of young players
- 19:37Speaker 2: who needed need to be developed.
- 19:39Speaker 1: All right, everybody, just a quick break to remind you
- 19:42Speaker 1: if you haven't noticed, sun's coming out, it's getting warmer,
- 19:46Speaker 1: especially where we are in the Northeast. That reminds you
- 19:49Speaker 1: that summer's right around the corner. And with late spring
- 19:52Speaker 1: and summer come a ton of activities. I know, for me,
- 19:55Speaker 1: and I'm sure just like everybody else. You know, my
- 19:57Speaker 1: kids play softball, I'm at tournament every weekend, and then
- 20:01Speaker 1: there's gonna be barbecues. And I actually turn fifty the
- 20:05Speaker 1: big five oz this year, along with many of my friends,
- 20:08Speaker 1: so I know there's gonna be a lot of fiftieth
- 20:10Speaker 1: birthday parties. And look, I know that at these parties,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna have a few drinks. I'm gonna want to
- 20:15Speaker 1: have fun with my friends. And now that I'm fifty,
- 20:19Speaker 1: we're going to be fifty. I know, that I just
- 20:22Speaker 1: don't feel as great the next day, even if I
- 20:24Speaker 1: just have a few drinks the night before. So I
- 20:28Speaker 1: tried this new product called Cheers Restore. Okay, it restores
- 20:34Speaker 1: how you feel the next morning. You take it after
- 20:38Speaker 1: your last drink before bed. It works while you sleep,
- 20:42Speaker 1: and their claim to fame is that you feel fifty
- 20:45Speaker 1: percent better the next morning or your money back. So basically,
- 20:49Speaker 1: if you have seven or eight beers throughout a barbecue,
- 20:54Speaker 1: then the next day you may feel like you only
- 20:56Speaker 1: had three or four. So basically, Cheers Restore helps you
- 21:00Speaker 1: metabolize alcohol more efficiently and it supports overall liver health.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Most people think that when you drink, you get dehydrated
- 21:08Speaker 1: and that's why you don't feel great the next day.
- 21:10Speaker 1: The real issue is actually what happens in your brain
- 21:14Speaker 1: and liver while you're sleeping. So when the alcohol leaves
- 21:17Speaker 1: your system, your brain goes into this rebound mode and
- 21:20Speaker 1: that's what makes you feel bad. The DHM and Cheers
- 21:22Speaker 1: works while you sleep to smooth out that rebound, and
- 21:26Speaker 1: at the same time, the alcohol converts into a toxic
- 21:29Speaker 1: byproduct that your liver has to clear out. The seis
- 21:32Speaker 1: steine and Cheers helps speed that up. It's backed by doctors,
- 21:36Speaker 1: PhDs and over one thousand verified clinicians. They've sold over
- 21:40Speaker 1: fifty million doses, and Cheers is also available in thirty
- 21:44Speaker 1: thousand retail locations that includes Target, CVS and Walgreens. So
- 21:48Speaker 1: take Cheers, restore after your last drink or before going
- 21:51Speaker 1: to bed, and wake up feeling at least fifty percent better,
- 21:55Speaker 1: or your money back. For a limited time, our listeners
- 21:57Speaker 1: are getting twenty percent off their entire order by using
- 22:00Speaker 1: the code Birds Birds at Cheershealth dot com. So just
- 22:05Speaker 1: head to Cheershealth dot com. Use that code Birds get
- 22:08Speaker 1: twenty percent off. After your purchase, they'll ask you where
- 22:11Speaker 1: you heard about them. Please support our show Inside the
- 22:14Speaker 1: Birds and tell them Inside the Birds send them to you. Hey,

- 22:44Speaker 1: sure you feel taken care of every time you walk in. Plus,
- 22:48Speaker 1: they carry only the best quality cannabis at the fairest prices,
- 22:53Speaker 1: So whether you're stocking up for the tailgate, the watch party,
- 22:56Speaker 1: or celebrating a big win, you know you're getting the
- 22:59Speaker 1: goods stuff without overpaying. They even show love to the
- 23:03Speaker 1: community with specials for fans, students, service members, and healthcare pros.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Cam Then Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices, and an
- 23:13Speaker 1: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up. Yeah,
- 23:17Speaker 1: so that brings us to Miles Hinton, who you know
- 23:19Speaker 1: will probably open as like the third trip. He's left tackle.
- 23:22Speaker 1: He played and practiced a left tackle for the Eagles
- 23:24Speaker 1: last year. The intel we had on him coming out
- 23:26Speaker 1: of Michigan right Stanford Don Michigan. I believe he said
- 23:30Speaker 1: he needed to get tougher and stronger and play like
- 23:34Speaker 1: a real, you know me, nasty offensive lineman. I remember
- 23:38Speaker 1: training because he went on ir shortly after camp. He
- 23:42Speaker 1: had some rough reps in the preseason games where you
- 23:45Speaker 1: could tell he still needed to work on that strength
- 23:48Speaker 1: and that that sort of nastiness that you expect from
- 23:50Speaker 1: an offensive lineman and camp. So this will be again
- 23:54Speaker 1: sort of a Cooper thing, but also it's not Miles
- 23:57Speaker 1: hitting now you're not. You got a bunch of guys,
- 24:00Speaker 1: developmental guys around you, So you have to make that
- 24:02Speaker 1: step in your career to show that you've developed to
- 24:05Speaker 1: have a chance to be on this team, because there's
- 24:07Speaker 1: nothing to given at this point for him.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Right, we should have mentioned Greg Austin is back. Chip
- 24:11Speaker 2: Kelly brought him in here. Wehen Chip was here many
- 24:14Speaker 2: many moons ago, and many's back. He's back with stout
- 24:17Speaker 2: last season. Now he obviously knows some of these guys,
- 24:20Speaker 2: so he has good intel you can give Cooper about
- 24:22Speaker 2: what to expect, what I saw, what the tape looked
- 24:25Speaker 2: like from my point of view, he's around them all
- 24:27Speaker 2: the time for the guys who are coming back, and
- 24:29Speaker 2: he also knew about the kids last year. So there's
- 24:33Speaker 2: a lot to unpack. Like that's why we're doing this
- 24:35Speaker 2: series because so much has changed a lot on offense,
- 24:38Speaker 2: there's so much it's different, like the fact that there
- 24:41Speaker 2: are then some players who are back. Schemes and philosophy
- 24:45Speaker 2: and where they're headed with. This thing is fascinating. It
- 24:49Speaker 2: all sounds great, but there's so much mystery because they
- 24:51Speaker 2: haven't run this offense before here.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so well we recap this depth thing. What they
- 24:57Speaker 1: really need still, because they have plenty of What they
- 25:00Speaker 1: really need is an experienced interior offensive lineman who can
- 25:04Speaker 1: come in and they feel good about playing right away
- 25:07Speaker 1: because we're not sure they're yet with Kendall, and they'll
- 25:09Speaker 1: probably go through OTA's and they may even go through
- 25:12Speaker 1: a week or two of camp just to see. But
- 25:14Speaker 1: if they were to do that, if they were to
- 25:16Speaker 1: sign a veteran interior offensive line, that kicks somebody probably
- 25:20Speaker 1: off the roster eventually and onto the practice squad, maybe
- 25:23Speaker 1: a Lampkin, maybe the kid that they drafted in the
- 25:25Speaker 1: sixth round like Morris.
- 25:26Speaker 2: I don't know, well, no, no, Michael, yes, I don't.
- 25:30Speaker 2: It's not gonna knock Marris off unless he's bad.
- 25:32Speaker 1: But well that's why he's a six round pick. It's possible,
- 25:35Speaker 1: but probably not. Probably it would.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Probably be really off. He'd have to be so bad,
- 25:40Speaker 2: right because you look at the school, you know this
- 25:43Speaker 2: is a drafted player. Where's Lampkin and draft him? They
- 25:46Speaker 2: obviously were intrigued by him.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Lampkin would probably be higher on the.
- 25:51Speaker 2: They've got, but they also they got the kids. They
- 25:55Speaker 2: have an undrafted free agent Jaden Roberts, Yeah, Jake Majors
- 25:58Speaker 2: who we mentioned the plenty of got to But there's
- 26:01Speaker 2: a lot of mystery with this thing because so much
- 26:05Speaker 2: has changed that offense and they have to put the
- 26:07Speaker 2: pieces together.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt about it. And plus to your point,
- 26:10Speaker 1: they can also probably bring in a veteran on the
- 26:13Speaker 1: practice squad to be elevated, because I'm thinking of it
- 26:16Speaker 1: right now and it's too early to do this, but
- 26:18Speaker 1: this is for the purpose of depth chart projection intel
- 26:22Speaker 1: as it doesn't matter how many they keep. You're gonna
- 26:25Speaker 1: have eight active on game day, you're gonna have your
- 26:27Speaker 1: starting five, and you're gonna have Fred Johnson six, most
- 26:30Speaker 1: likely gonna have Drew Kendall seven. Who is that eighth?
- 26:34Speaker 1: Is it Mark hal Bell as a third round pick
- 26:36Speaker 1: as a swing as your right tackle if Fred Ronson
- 26:39Speaker 1: is your left or do you want someone with a
- 26:41Speaker 1: little bit more center guard versatility in that role and
- 26:45Speaker 1: do you sign a veteran who has center guard versatility
- 26:48Speaker 1: to have them elevated for at least three weeks to
- 26:51Speaker 1: play that role. That's what I'm thinking of right now.
- 26:53Speaker 1: It's early, but that's where you have to think that
- 26:56Speaker 1: way because you have to know what the Eagles need
- 26:58Speaker 1: to play in order to play a game. You know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: Drew Kendall's not going to become a veteran overnight. So
- 27:03Speaker 1: even if he's good and he's part of your eight, Okay,
- 27:06Speaker 1: so it's five Kendall six, Fred Johnson seven. Is Mark
- 27:09Speaker 1: Helbell ready to be active on game day as a
- 27:12Speaker 1: third round pick? That's what they have to find out.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a big one. That's a big one. So
- 27:16Speaker 2: lots of questions and offenses. We finish off offense. It's
- 27:22Speaker 2: fascinating because so many roles are This is the first
- 27:25Speaker 2: time in a long time there are a lot of roles
- 27:28Speaker 2: that are up for grabs or they have to settle them. Receiver, rotation,
- 27:34Speaker 2: backup lineman, who's the first guy in or second guy
- 27:37Speaker 2: in if need be running back rolling, third down, tight
- 27:42Speaker 2: end rolls. As we went in the previous show. They
- 27:45Speaker 2: have so much they can do between eleven and twelve personnel.
- 27:49Speaker 2: That's a great thing, but it's got to manifest itself.
- 27:52Speaker 2: Into something very highly successful with great coaching, great execution,
- 27:58Speaker 2: great buy in by the players. That's the other thing
- 28:00Speaker 2: we have to see. You've got a lot of new
- 28:02Speaker 2: coaches here, and how much to the players buy him
- 28:04Speaker 2: with these guys.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Yeah, how about Marco Bell? Maybe if he's ready to
- 28:07Speaker 1: be thrown out there, if he's active on game day,
- 28:09Speaker 1: put him out there as an extra offensive lineman in
- 28:11Speaker 1: a jumbo pad. I mean, he's huge. Can you imagine
- 28:14Speaker 1: putting him next to Lane Johnson and just run the
- 28:16Speaker 1: ball to the right side.
- 28:17Speaker 2: I think, yeah, you never know. See that's the thing
- 28:21Speaker 2: with Chris Cooper, uh and Sean Mannion. You don't know
- 28:24Speaker 2: what they're That's something we're not going to know, and
- 28:27Speaker 2: that that's something we may see in training camp and
- 28:29Speaker 2: we'll certainly make a note of it.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, last thing. We do get some funny interactions. Uh.
- 28:36Speaker 1: When we did running back, we mentioned no fullback and
- 28:38Speaker 1: people some people think that Willie Lampkin is still someone
- 28:41Speaker 1: they might consider as a fullback. I don't know. I
- 28:44Speaker 1: don't think so, but.
- 28:45Speaker 2: People are so because they use lots of it because
- 28:47Speaker 2: they there's the Lampkin truthers were funny. They're looking for
- 28:51Speaker 2: anything for him to be an Eagle. They're looking for anything,
- 28:55Speaker 2: any any formation.
- 28:57Speaker 1: It just is.
- 28:58Speaker 2: I didn't comment on them during the season because I
- 29:00Speaker 2: know where this is headed. Yeah, there was no chance
- 29:02Speaker 2: he was going to be active, to play and anything
- 29:05Speaker 2: like that. We told folks there's a reason why they
- 29:08Speaker 2: claimed him. They want a they liked him be he
- 29:11Speaker 2: had multiple years on his deal. They claimed his contract
- 29:15Speaker 2: all about the off season. That's exactly where they're at
- 29:17Speaker 2: right and.
- 29:18Speaker 1: There's a position they've been thin at and they're trying
- 29:20Speaker 1: to add to it and see what they can do.
- 29:22Speaker 2: His best chances at guard, his best chance he's got
- 29:25Speaker 2: to if he can play guard, I'm not rolling it out.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Making the team and long term being the top back
- 29:32Speaker 2: of guard, that would be pious. That's if like real
- 29:35Speaker 2: double sixes. Yeah, reality, it's going to be somewhere below that,
- 29:40Speaker 2: significantly below that. But let's see what happens. He you know,
- 29:42Speaker 2: he didn't play last season, so let's just see what happens.
- 29:45Speaker 1: You know, it used to be tough for us at
- 29:46Speaker 1: training camp to really get a gauge on how the
- 29:49Speaker 1: linemen were playing because things move so fast, especially in
- 29:52Speaker 1: the Chip Kelly era. I can only remember like thinking, oh, yeah,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I could tell Andre Dillard it's not playing well because
- 29:58Speaker 1: Joshua keeps putting him on his ass. But that was
- 30:00Speaker 1: so glaring that you knew because very rarely you see
- 30:03Speaker 1: an offensive lineman get put on his back, and that
- 30:05Speaker 1: was kind of happening routinely between Sweat and Dillard. But
- 30:09Speaker 1: the Eagles recently, Adam, you saw this last year. They
- 30:12Speaker 1: have these screens now where they replay, these really long
- 30:17Speaker 1: screens where they replay the play that's on the field,
- 30:20Speaker 1: and we've been able to look at them and get
- 30:22Speaker 1: it better because it's a it's an all twenty two screen, right,
- 30:25Speaker 1: you get the you gather from where they're shooting at
- 30:27Speaker 1: the tower, and it's been a lot. It's still hard,
- 30:30Speaker 1: but it's not easier to see line blocking, line schemes
- 30:34Speaker 1: and sometimes even individual line play. So this year we
- 30:37Speaker 1: got even more reason to check those screens because there's
- 30:40Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of competition at those spots.
- 30:41Speaker 2: So one more thing. Will Willie Lampkat the typical undrafted
- 30:45Speaker 2: free agent deal, they get three year deals, so they
- 30:48Speaker 2: have this he has this year and one more so
- 30:51Speaker 2: after twenty seven. So you hope that he's you hope
- 30:55Speaker 2: that he can be here for a long enough time here,
- 30:58Speaker 2: so they could they have some there. Yeah, there's an
- 31:03Speaker 2: opportunity for him of all their backup interior linemen, and
- 31:05Speaker 2: they don't have a lot of them.
- 31:07Speaker 1: M hm.
- 31:08Speaker 2: He's got the most upside, no question, for sure.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Fun player to watch too. I mean, we saw what
- 31:13Speaker 1: little tape that he had last year in the preseason,
- 31:15Speaker 1: but it was fun. It'll be interesting guy. He plays
- 31:18Speaker 1: a lot of power for a little guy, so it'll
- 31:19Speaker 1: be fun. All right. That is it. That is our rat.
- 31:22Speaker 1: That pretty much wraps up to the offense. And the
- 31:24Speaker 1: next time you hear from us, we'll start going through
- 31:26Speaker 1: the defensive depth chart. And that's gonna do it for
- 31:29Speaker 1: this episode of Inside the Birds, the Leading Podcast and
