- 0:09Speaker 1: Going on.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Everybody, welcome into another episode of to check O Daily.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's Andrew Dchecko, Eagles beat reporter for Insidethbirds dot Com,
- 0:17Speaker 2: here with you, and we now have an answer as
- 0:21Speaker 2: to the whereabouts of Joe Tryon show Yanka, who missed
- 0:24Speaker 2: the two days of mandatory mini camp because the Eagles
- 0:27Speaker 2: on Tuesday afternoon made a flurry.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Of roster moves.
- 0:30Speaker 2: They placed try On show Yanka on the reserve retired list. So,
- 0:35Speaker 2: at twenty seven years old, Joe Tryon show Yanka is
- 0:39Speaker 2: stepping away from football, and sometimes that happens. This is
- 0:43Speaker 2: sort of that period of the NFL season where you.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Tend to see that.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I think of Devonte Parker a couple of years ago.
- 0:51Speaker 2: He was a player at the Eagles signed in free
- 0:53Speaker 2: agency and he ended up retiring before training camp. There
- 0:56Speaker 2: was a linebacker, Jatavius Brown a number of years ago,
- 1:00Speaker 2: who sort of did the same thing.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That's the nature of it.
- 1:03Speaker 2: This gives you time to think about your priorities, think
- 1:06Speaker 2: about all the things going on. And for whatever reason,
- 1:09Speaker 2: Joe Tryon Choionka decided to step away from football. So
- 1:12Speaker 2: that created a roster spot and the Eagles signed to players,
- 1:17Speaker 2: but they also waved defensive back Brandon Johnson.
- 1:19Speaker 1: So those were the two roster spots.
- 1:21Speaker 2: They put tryon choy Inco on the reserve retiredless, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: they waved defensive back Brandon Johnson. More on him in
- 1:27Speaker 2: a moment, but they signed defensive back Sean Wade and
- 1:32Speaker 2: wide receiver Eric Azukama. And we'll start with Eric Azukama,
- 1:39Speaker 2: and he went.
- 1:39Speaker 1: To Texas Tech.
- 1:41Speaker 2: He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins and in the
- 1:44Speaker 2: fourth round, and so there was a lot of expectations
- 1:48Speaker 2: for him.
- 1:49Speaker 1: He was drafted in twenty twenty two.
- 1:51Speaker 2: He spent three seasons with the Dolphins, had one catch
- 1:54Speaker 2: for three yards, played in five games over three seasons,
- 1:57Speaker 2: had some injuries that he dealt with. There actually overlapped
- 2:01Speaker 2: for two seasons with Eagles passing game coordinator Josh Grizzard,
- 2:05Speaker 2: who was there for two seasons during his tenure as.
- 2:08Speaker 1: The offensive quality control coach.
- 2:11Speaker 2: But Azukama brings good size at six foot two, two
- 2:15Speaker 2: hundred and six pounds, and he now joins a wide
- 2:19Speaker 2: receiver corps in Philadelphia where he'll be battling for reps
- 2:24Speaker 2: in training camp.
- 2:25Speaker 1: But you like the size, interestingly enough, the.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Miami Dolphins and also the DC Defenders of the UFL
- 2:34Speaker 2: found ways to get him the football as a runner,
- 2:37Speaker 2: but he's.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Had a few stops along the way.
- 2:40Speaker 2: The Eagles are now his third NFL team, and it
- 2:44Speaker 2: didn't work out with Miami. Then he went to the
- 2:47Speaker 2: Jacksonville Jaguars, and he since joined the DC Defenders and
- 2:53Speaker 2: then last season he appeared in ten regular season games.
- 2:56Speaker 2: He had nine carries for seventy nine yards on the ground,
- 3:00Speaker 2: fifteen receptions for two hundred and twenty seven yards and
- 3:03Speaker 2: a touchdown. But I think an interesting facet of his
- 3:06Speaker 2: game that Bears watching will be his ability to affect
- 3:12Speaker 2: or impact special teams. Because he had eighteen kickoffs for
- 3:15Speaker 2: four hundred and fifty nine yards. That averages out to
- 3:17Speaker 2: twenty five and a half yards per return. And the
- 3:20Speaker 2: Eagles really don't have a definitive answer when it comes
- 3:23Speaker 2: to kick returner. They have Damian Pierce, they have Will Shipley,
- 3:26Speaker 2: they have players who can do a Britain Covey, but
- 3:29Speaker 2: they don't necessarily have someone that you can write their
- 3:32Speaker 2: name in penn on the depth chart. There's still plenty
- 3:35Speaker 2: of time to determine that. But if you're looking for
- 3:38Speaker 2: a potential path for Azukanma. It would be as probably
- 3:43Speaker 2: as a kick returner because reps are going to be
- 3:45Speaker 2: few and far between. In training camp, will be battling
- 3:48Speaker 2: with the likes of Quez Watkins and Danny Gray and
- 3:52Speaker 2: some of those players for snaps. Britain Covey is another one.
- 3:57Speaker 2: But that's the kind of player that you want to
- 3:59Speaker 2: bring in. And he clearly was able to catch the
- 4:02Speaker 2: Eagles eye based off of what he was doing in
- 4:04Speaker 2: the UFL, and we'll see what he's able to do
- 4:07Speaker 2: in training camp. The Eagles now have twelve wide receivers
- 4:10Speaker 2: that they are currently taking into training camp. Obviously now
- 4:15Speaker 2: there now between now and then, a lot can change.
- 4:17Speaker 2: This is where a lot of the roster toggling comes
- 4:20Speaker 2: into play as you're trying to finalize that roster for
- 4:23Speaker 2: training camp. But he adds another pass catching you know,
- 4:28Speaker 2: presence to the Eagles group there and then.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Sean Wade was a fifth.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in twenty twenty one.
- 4:37Speaker 2: He didn't play for the Ravens, but then his next
- 4:40Speaker 2: stop was the New England Patriots, where over two seasons
- 4:43Speaker 2: he played in twenty games. Started six, and he liked
- 4:48Speaker 2: the size at six foot one hundred and ninety six pounds.
- 4:51Speaker 2: He is a player that at Ohio State, he really
- 4:54Speaker 2: stood out to me, especially in the pre draft process,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and so much like as Ukanma, his reps are going
- 5:02Speaker 2: to be, you know, they're going to be sporadic. He'll
- 5:05Speaker 2: be in contention with the likes of the Ambry Thomases
- 5:09Speaker 2: and Tarique castro Fields of the world, and he'll be
- 5:14Speaker 2: working with third team and presumably even developmental periods as well.
- 5:19Speaker 2: But he is someone who comes in with experience. He
- 5:21Speaker 2: comes in with the pedigree of being a draft pick
- 5:25Speaker 2: Ohio State, and he checked off some boxes there in
- 5:28Speaker 2: the UFL. In eight games, he had three interceptions, nine
- 5:33Speaker 2: pass breakups.
- 5:34Speaker 1: He also had a force fumble.
- 5:36Speaker 2: So the Eagles are always looking to make the roster
- 5:41Speaker 2: as strong as possible.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Howie Roseman will leave no stone unturned.
- 5:44Speaker 2: If it's player eighty nine to ninety, He's going to
- 5:47Speaker 2: find a way to bring in the best talent that
- 5:49Speaker 2: he can to give the Eagles the best advantage that
- 5:53Speaker 2: the best advantage that they can have in the summer
- 5:56Speaker 2: and really create a lot more competition. And we'll see
- 6:00Speaker 2: both players are clearly long shots, and they're behind the
- 6:02Speaker 2: eight ball because the other players had the spring to
- 6:06Speaker 2: sort of acclimate to the defense and certainly the offense,
- 6:11Speaker 2: which is still being installed. So we'll see what happens.
- 6:15Speaker 2: But those two players are new additions.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 6:21Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there, But when it comes

- 7:12Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 7:15Speaker 3: one and up.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Now, surprisingly, the Eagles decided to waive Brandon Johnson. Now,
- 7:21Speaker 2: Brandon Johnson's a player that I was a little surprised
- 7:25Speaker 2: that they parted with because I was under the impression
- 7:28Speaker 2: that they liked him a little bit. You know, he
- 7:30Speaker 2: was someone that they elevated in the final three games
- 7:33Speaker 2: of the season. They started him in the season finale
- 7:37Speaker 2: at safety. He played some snaps, he suffered the injury there,
- 7:41Speaker 2: but he was on the practice squad all season, having
- 7:43Speaker 2: signed with the Eagles last spring as a rookie free agent.
- 7:47Speaker 1: They cross trained him.
- 7:48Speaker 2: From nickelback to safety and it seemed like they were working.
- 7:53Speaker 1: With him and they had a development plan in place.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Who knows the way that these the weeks ago leading
- 7:59Speaker 2: up to training camp there there's always a little uncertainty
- 8:03Speaker 2: with you know, certain players in the back end of
- 8:06Speaker 2: the roster. Maybe there's a there's a path for him
- 8:09Speaker 2: to return before then, but right now he's he's been waived,
- 8:13Speaker 2: and he was someone that was working as the third
- 8:16Speaker 2: team safety during the spring, sort of a in the
- 8:22Speaker 2: mold of a smaller type of player, good shirt area quickness,
- 8:24Speaker 2: high football IQ and just based off of seeing him
- 8:29Speaker 2: throughout the season and watching him grow within the defense,
- 8:33Speaker 2: it seemed like he was a player that peaked some curiosity.
- 8:36Speaker 2: But as I mentioned, Howie Roseman's going to do whatever
- 8:40Speaker 2: he feels his best for the Philodolph Eagles and sometimes
- 8:43Speaker 2: churning out the bottom of the roster it in the
- 8:45Speaker 2: spirit of competition. That's something that the Eagles are always
- 8:48Speaker 2: going to prioritize and value. So there's your your sort
- 8:52Speaker 2: of synopsis of the Eagles roster moves from Tuesday afternoon.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And I think with the Joe Tryon show yank.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Put placing him on the reserve retired list and the
- 9:03Speaker 2: aj Epenessa signing makes a whole lot more sense. Now,
- 9:07Speaker 2: there are different types of players. As I mentioned, Epiness
- 9:10Speaker 2: is more of a run defending type of player. He
- 9:12Speaker 2: can get after the quarterback twenty four career sacks, played
- 9:15Speaker 2: ninety one games, and I think he has a clear
- 9:22Speaker 2: pathway to being the Eagles fifth edge rusher, and they
- 9:26Speaker 2: can use him a little differently. Maybe they can move
- 9:27Speaker 2: him inside a little bit because he is sort of
- 9:31Speaker 2: a plus sized edge rusher, so you can get a
- 9:34Speaker 2: little creative and how how do you utilize them maybe
- 9:36Speaker 2: move them inside when in nickel and obvious passing situations.
- 9:41Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean that's that's sort of the.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Nuts and bolts of what the Eagles did on Tuesday afternoon.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I imagine that, you know, the roster has never fully
- 9:52Speaker 2: settled when you're looking at it in terms of the
- 9:54Speaker 2: back of the roster.
- 9:55Speaker 1: If there's other players who.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Catch the eye or garner any sort of attention there
- 10:03Speaker 2: at anything that can give the Eagles an advantage, they're
- 10:05Speaker 2: certainly going to entertain. So that's that's kind of the
- 10:08Speaker 2: way the roster stands right now. Hopefully that answers any
- 10:12Speaker 2: of the questions that you may have of those four
- 10:14Speaker 2: roster moves.
- 10:15Speaker 1: But for now, that's going to
- 10:16Speaker 2: Do it for this episode of The Checko Daly Andrew
- 10:19Speaker 2: di Checo and I'll catch you all on the next one.
