- 0:00I'm Christina and I'm t And this is the Pretty and Pink again podcast.
- 0:03Where Motherhood meets rediscovery.
- 0:16Hey.
- 0:17Hi.
- 0:17Hi.
- 0:17It's just me and you today actually.
- 0:19Just you, us too.
- 0:20And Noella.
- 0:21I have Nola today.
- 0:22She loves you so much.
- 0:24I know.
- 0:24If you guys don't know, NOLA is Tea's puppy that she got.
- 0:27How old does she know?
- 0:28Uh, she was born November 5th.
- 0:30And she, she sometimes with us, she chewed a cord a couple weeks ago.
- 0:34But she's sitting on my lap.
- 0:35She got in trouble.
- 0:36It's okay.
- 0:37That was like her one.
- 0:38She had like one red flag.
- 0:39With the chewing, but she's sitting on me today and I am just, gosh, this dog, I feel like I might go to sleep during this episode.
- 0:46She's just such a snuggle, like calm baby.
- 0:49Yes, she is.
- 0:50She's like, and she's also a, she's like floppy, like, so what I always say to you is that, or she's like limp, like where you just like pick her up and she's just like mush.
- 0:58Yes.
- 0:58She's a puddle.
- 0:59She's a puddle and I love it.
- 1:01Yes, I know.
- 1:02She's also she sleeps with us in bed.
- 1:04Mm-hmm.
- 1:05Nick was like, so is this happening now?
- 1:08Yeah.
- 1:08He was like, so the kids are out of our bed finally, and now there's a dog in it.
- 1:11I'm like, exactly.
- 1:12Exactly.
- 1:13He's like, well, will it ever be just us two in here?
- 1:15I'm like, it's so funny.
- 1:16Probably not.
- 1:17It's so funny when you sleep with an animal.
- 1:18I feel like they do.
- 1:20It's like one of two things.
- 1:22I feel like people probably think about this who like co-sleep with their kids.
- 1:25Yeah.
- 1:25At the same time.
- 1:26But my cats.
- 1:27They sleep in our bed as well.
- 1:29They simultaneously.
- 1:31Put me to bed because it's like very relaxing to have them with me, but then also wake me up at the same time.
- 1:36Like, it's like there's two things happening at once.
- 1:39But I love this.
- 1:40This is my kids.
- 1:41Were never relaxing in bed with me.
- 1:43No.
- 1:43My kids don't relax in bed.
- 1:44But no I mean, I just, but she's a mosh dog, so you can stay in bed as long as you want.
- 1:49I love it.
- 1:50She's such a cutie.
- 1:51But I'm so happy to sit with you today because it's been, I know there's so much to catch up on.
- 1:54It's, I know.
- 1:55It's been like a hot minute since it's just been me and you here and we've gotten to catch up and chat and all the things.
- 2:01So I know I am dying to hear about your trip.
- 2:04Yes.
- 2:04My trip.
- 2:05'cause I know there was so much anticipatory anxiety.
- 2:08Yes.
- 2:08That went into even going away, period.
- 2:11Yes.
- 2:11And then once you decided, all right, I'm doing this, we're going away.
- 2:14Yep.
- 2:14It was like, how many rooms do we get?
- 2:16Yes.
- 2:16What are they gonna be like on the flight?
- 2:18What am I packing?
- 2:19How long are we going for?
- 2:20Ba ba.
- 2:21And you almost didn't even go because you were getting yourself work gap.
- 2:24It's, yes.
- 2:25So it was funny when I, when I started posting that we were away, I had a ton of Pippa's.
- 2:30I could tell they were Pippa, obviously, because they were messaging me.
- 2:32And they're like, you went, you did it.
- 2:34I'm so proud of you.
- 2:36And it was great.
- 2:37We ended up having a really, really great trip.
- 2:39I'll back up and just say that.
- 2:41Yeah.
- 2:41So we were supposed to go to Mexico.
- 2:43We ended up canceling.
- 2:44Well, thank that trip.
- 2:45Thank God you didn't, which is, yes, we're very, very lucky.
- 2:47Very timely.
- 2:48It's very timely.
- 2:48We ended up canceling that trip and we were looking for a place to rebook.
- 2:52I really, in my mind wanted to remove ourselves from the day-to-day grind that we're normally doing at the house.
- 2:59And so the thought of like renting an Airbnb, we do that throughout the year and I've shared that.
- 3:04I love doing that.
- 3:06But I wanted like separation from that.
- 3:08Like I didn't wanna go somewhere and then be doing the breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the house, and feeling.
- 3:13Okay, well we have the kitchen here, so should we just, and then the laundry and all that, like I wanted to remove us.
- 3:18It would've the same stuff just somewhere else.
- 3:20Exactly.
- 3:20And so we were really looking for more of a resort.
- 3:23You had recommended the jw, Marco Island, which is in Florida, and that's like a little bit outside of Fort Myers, so that's where we flew in.
- 3:31That was a big question that people had.
- 3:32It, it's a small airport.
- 3:33Super easy to get through.
- 3:34Yeah, it was a direct flight, which was amazing and it.
- 3:38It was that resort feeling that we were looking for where like, we don't have to get in the car once.
- 3:43We're there, like we're there, the restaurants are there.
- 3:46What we're doing for the day is like beach or pool.
- 3:48Right.
- 3:48There's no like pressure to be keeping the kids busy doing something else and having to leave.
- 3:54That's what I was looking for.
- 3:55So we were so happy that was what ended up kind of transpiring after all of the, booking and rebooking and canceling and all of that.
- 4:02So it ended up working out so well.
- 4:05But then once we had that booked, right, we were like, okay, this is where we're going.
- 4:09This is the room we're getting.
- 4:11I'd still have like all of this anticipatory anxiety.
- 4:14Mm-hmm.
- 4:15That I just cannot shake anytime.
- 4:16Mm-hmm.
- 4:17I'm traveling with the kids.
- 4:18I do not have it for myself.
- 4:20I have it when traveling with the kids.
- 4:22Well, wild.
- 4:23As a family.
- 4:23As a family.
- 4:24As a family.
- 4:24Like if Raja and I go away, or if I'm traveling by myself.
- 4:28Absolutely not.
- 4:28You're good.
- 4:29I'm good to go.
- 4:29And we did so much traveling before we had kids, and I feel like once you're in that travel zone and you're like, okay, I know how to pack myself, you're, you just have like all the things down.
- 4:39It's very easy to travel and you're kind of like in that zone.
- 4:42But then when I include the kids in that, so much takes over and I have so much anxiety.
- 4:50It's wild.
- 4:51How did you feel the day you were traveling?
- 4:53Were you scared and anxious that day while you were in it?
- 4:56Obviously you were going up to it, but did it dissipate at all Once.
- 4:59Once you did it, once you kind of got there and I, we were like started where to airport.
- 5:03Got there or like to the hotel, to the, got there, to the hotel.
- 5:05We were checked in, we were like heading down to the pool and I was kind of like, okay, we still have to know like how the night is gonna go.
- 5:12We still have bedtime to get through, but I felt like you were more curious what's gonna happen was all starting to like.
- 5:17It just gradually started to dissipate, I would say.
- 5:19Okay, so how was the first night in the hotel room?
- 5:22Because you were all in a room together.
- 5:23We all shared a room, which is wild.
- 5:24And you historically, historically have a bad sleep.
- 5:26You are a bad sleeper and so is your daughter.
- 5:28Yes, and so I was so nervous.
- 5:30Anytime I'm worried about like my sleep getting disrupted or there's like variables or disrupting their sleep their day or their sleep.
- 5:37Literally terrified, but it went as well as it could have went.
- 5:41Oh my gosh.
- 5:41It's wild.
- 5:42That's amazing.
- 5:43So like lights out, you were all out at the same time?
- 5:46Yeah, because luckily my kids do go to bed a little bit later, so my kids normally go to bed around eight 30.
- 5:51Okay.
- 5:51Which is a little late for kids.
- 5:53And for little ones.
- 5:54Yeah, for little ones it is.
- 5:55But then my kids sleep until after seven each day.
- 5:58Oh.
- 5:58So we're just kind of like on a little bit of a different schedule.
- 6:01That's great.
- 6:02Which works for us.
- 6:03And so for us, we were just like, okay, if we keep them up a little bit extra, maybe by nine we can all go to bed.
- 6:09And that's what we did.
- 6:10Perfect.
- 6:10So we were all in bed.
- 6:11It's not like I have kids that go to bed at seven.
- 6:13I could not have done that if like the kids had to be lights out by seven.
- 6:17I don't think that we could have shared, because then it's like, what?
- 6:20I can't go to bed at seven o'clock, you know?
- 6:21Well, you wouldn't have been able to file that schedule.
- 6:23No.
- 6:23You would've had.
- 6:24Push it even more, which might have been harder.
- 6:26Yeah, so it worked.
- 6:26It worked this way and then we still, they slept until still about seven o'clock, so it was great.
- 6:32That's awesome.
- 6:32It was amazing.
- 6:33We had, yeah, we had a, did they snooze at all by the pool?
- 6:35They did not.
- 6:36Okay.
- 6:36So that was something for me, I was like, how are we gonna coordinate naps?
- 6:41Leo's four almost.
- 6:43So he doesn't always need a nap.
- 6:45Yeah.
- 6:45He just needs a nap when he gets like really tired.
- 6:48So we were like, okay, maybe one of the days he'll end up having to go to sleep.
- 6:52I was most worried about Layla,'cause Layla's my variable all the time about if she doesn't nap it causes her to wake up through the night.
- 7:00I think luckily we just tired her out so much that she slept through the night.
- 7:04Aw.
- 7:04And she also knew that I was there.
- 7:06I feel like that's the separation sometimes.
- 7:08Yes.
- 7:08If she was probably in another room, she might have not slept through the night because she knew that we were there.
- 7:13She slept through the night.
- 7:14She kind of thought it was great.
- 7:15Yeah.
- 7:15She was like, this is great.
- 7:16This is all I want.
- 7:17And so that worked out really well.
- 7:20Perfect.
- 7:20But I still, even before the trip, I had so much anxiety around like the packing and like packing with kids and all of the stuff where you're like.
- 7:30Okay.
- 7:30Do we need this?
- 7:31What if this happens?
- 7:33Then do we have this, like, it's like, do we need medicine?
- 7:36Do we need, what if it's cold?
- 7:38What if the, like we don't have access to a washer dryer, so like, do we need extra sets?
- 7:43Like what if they need extra pajamas?
- 7:45Like, that's how I think.
- 7:46Mm-hmm.
- 7:46Like where I'm like bracing for every worst case scenario.
- 7:51Mm-hmm.
- 7:51And so the packing was very stressful for me, but we made Did you overpack at the end of the day or did you actually, or did you just do just off?
- 7:58Did, I mean, I thought that I was overpacking, but we didn't.
- 8:02We used like every last bit of what we had.
- 8:04Okay.
- 8:05Because we didn't have access to like wash anything easily, you know?
- 8:09Yeah.
- 8:09So I'm going to get, I'm gonna share my favorite place to stay.
- 8:13But we stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Naples a few years ago.
- 8:16No, that was your other recommendation.
- 8:17And I'm obsessed with that hotel and it was our first time that we, well, we usually go to the Baja Mar.
- 8:23Mm-hmm.
- 8:23In Naau.
- 8:24I know that's, and it was the first time we went on vacation with the four kids and didn't bring like my mom or a sitter.
- 8:29It was like our first trip.
- 8:30Just the six of us.
- 8:31Yeah.
- 8:31And the twins were they were probably three then.
- 8:34So we stayed at the Ritz and Naples.
- 8:37Joseph got the stomach bug.
- 8:38Oh my God.
- 8:39And one of my girlfriends we ran into while we were there, she was like, go up in my room.
- 8:44I have Zofran in my room.
- 8:45So now I travel with Zofran everywhere I go.
- 8:47Yeah, there you go.
- 8:48'cause So like something happens added to the bag and then you rake ma make another memory.
- 8:52Like Okay, add it to the bag.
- 8:53Yeah.
- 8:54Okay.
- 8:54Well the Ritz Carlton does complimentary laundry wash and fold laundry.
- 8:58There you go.
- 8:58Every single day.
- 9:00So now when we go there, I just bring a few things and then we leave it at the door.
- 9:05And then you don't, don't have to bring home any wet bathing suits.
- 9:07That's so nice.
- 9:07But the first time we went away with everybody, I was like, Nick, we're getting one room.
- 9:11It's too expensive to purchase two rooms.
- 9:13It's like crazy.
- 9:14The place is a fortune.
- 9:15So we got one room.
- 9:16So I was like, wait in the lobby with the kids while I go rearrange the furniture.
- 9:20Right.
- 9:20'cause you're like, I have to set up for everybody.
- 9:22So had Instacart coming, like all this thing.
- 9:24So we had a desk.
- 9:26So I took the chair out of the room and the twins slept under the desk.
- 9:30Like it was a little like a, a hide a little hideout for them.
- 9:33Yeah.
- 9:33And I took a sheet and I put it over the top and they thought it was so cool that they could like sleep under the desk.
- 9:38One boy slept on like the Chas on the room.
- 9:41Yep.
- 9:41And then another one slept in one bed and me and Nick slept in the other bed.
- 9:45I think ultimately I ended up getting my own bed and one of the kids slept with Nick'cause they were probably like queen beds.
- 9:51And we made it work for the week.
- 9:53Yep.
- 9:53And to your point earlier about like Layla having separation anxiety, I think that my kids thought it was so cool that to be together, mom and dad were right there.
- 10:01Mm-hmm.
- 10:01So.
- 10:03It all ended up working out and it was great, but now they're larger and we can't do that unfortunately.
- 10:09Know can only get away with that for so long.
- 10:10I know, that was really good advice because you actually said that to me.
- 10:14Normally we've done Airbnbs we've done condos at a hotel.
- 10:18Mm-hmm.
- 10:18Mm-hmm.
- 10:19Where there's like residences above it.
- 10:20Yeah.
- 10:21So this was the first time we had a hotel room with all of us there together.
- 10:26And that was your point, you said do this while you can, because you're not always gonna be able to share.
- 10:31It just gets like a little bit crazy when everybody's old, but do it while they're little.
- 10:35And I was just sitting there in fear like, oh my God.
- 10:38But then there's four of us and so if one of them gets up, then we're all up, you know?
- 10:42And I was just so fearful.
- 10:45That anxiety is just wild.
- 10:47When I'm talking about it out loud, it sounds so silly.
- 10:51But then when you're like thinking about all the things that can go wrong and like not ruin the trip, but just if you're tired and now no one's sleeping and everybody's cranky and everyone's off schedule, like I just think of like worst case scenario.
- 11:05Totally.
- 11:05Well, you like a dooms, a doomsday, but you stay on schedule because it helps keep you regulated.
- 11:10Yes.
- 11:10And you keep your kids on schedule because you know what keeps them regulated.
- 11:13Yes.
- 11:13And I hate using this word regulation, but it's true and it's so important.
- 11:17It's a very basic like fundamental thing.
- 11:19Yeah.
- 11:19That your nervous system has to say.
- 11:22Regulated.
- 11:23Yes.
- 11:23And when you're not sleeping and when the kids are constantly on and you don't feel like you're gonna have your time to decompress.
- 11:29Yes.
- 11:29Then you have this fear of dysregulate.
- 11:31You had like a fear of dysregulation.
- 11:33I was so worried.
- 11:34I it's all compounded.
- 11:35Right?
- 11:36You just said it like not having any downtime, being on all day with toddlers.
- 11:40Being at the beach in the pool.
- 11:41Having to be so mentally on and then like, okay, where are we going?
- 11:46We're making everybody happy.
- 11:47Like, we're at a restaurant instead of being home, so are they going to eat?
- 11:51Are they gonna sleep?
- 11:52All of that what ifs?
- 11:54Mm-hmm.
- 11:54Just completely clouds my mind.
- 11:56The lucky part about all of this is that once we got there and everything kind of settled and we were in a routine, I actually found myself way more go with the flow, which very much surprised me.
- 12:08Like I was like, eh, okay.
- 12:09They don't wanna nap.
- 12:10Especially because the night before everybody had slept pretty well for the most part.
- 12:14So I was like, okay, it's our first full day.
- 12:16Like, nobody feels like napping today.
- 12:18I think they'll be fine.
- 12:19Perfect.
- 12:19You know, and like that.
- 12:21Even to have the thought that I was like being cool with it was very surprising to me.
- 12:27Just, again, correct me if I'm wrong, but you have these strict rules in place because you're trying to keep a schedule because you're trying to keep them regulated.
- 12:36And Myself.
- 12:37And yourself.
- 12:37Mm-hmm.
- 12:37If you noticed that the vacation schedule being a little bit more lenient, still allowed for everybody to be at ease, then you could be more flexible.
- 12:45Exactly.
- 12:45But you have to go through it one day to see how it goes.
- 12:48Oh, sure.
- 12:48Before you just say, okay, we're on vacation.
- 12:51No naps.
- 12:51Yep.
- 12:52And I actually think that because I'm so, I don't like using the word strict, but just I'm so regimented with regimen them regimented.
- 12:59That's a, I actually think nicer that they, it helps them in situations like this because they know that bedtime is bedtime.
- 13:07You know, they know what that feels like and their body is on such a clock that yes, if they skip a nap, like they might be a little bit grouchy or like a little bit, crabby for the rest of the day.
- 13:18Or like they might have like a little bit more of outbursts or something.
- 13:21But do they know that bedtime means bedtime?
- 13:24'cause we stuck within the window of bedtime.
- 13:28Mm-hmm.
- 13:28It was like, okay, it's eight 30, like, we're tired, we wanna go to sleep.
- 13:32Right.
- 13:32Like their bodies were like on autopilot still of like, okay, it's bedtime.
- 13:36We're ready to go to bed.
- 13:36Did you bring a stroller with you?
- 13:37We did.
- 13:38The stroller has actually, did they sleep in the stroller?
- 13:40I thought that they might, but they did not.
- 13:43But they at least like, rest in it.
- 13:45Like when you're going from room to dinner or like if you're walking around the resort, at least they have like a place.
- 13:50But they had a little bit of downtime treat too.
- 13:52And honestly, I think if Leo wasn't almost four years old and he was still,'cause he has always been like a must napper, like, and that's him not me.
- 14:01Mm-hmm.
- 14:01He's just loves napping.
- 14:03If this was like maybe a year or two ago, he probably would've napped in the stroller.
- 14:07It's just that he doesn't need it anymore.
- 14:08So I love a stroller.
- 14:10I do too.
- 14:10And I love a stroller nap.
- 14:11I do too.
- 14:12My like, favorite hack for a vacation with a stroller.
- 14:15If you have like maybe one kid.
- 14:17Mm-hmm.
- 14:17Maybe, probably not two.
- 14:19If you're bringing so much stuff and you don't wanna travel with more stuff, is to Instacart an umbrella stroller from like Walmart for like 10 bucks.
- 14:26And then just leave it there.
- 14:28Leave it all there.
- 14:28Leave it there.
- 14:29Or just say to the front desk like, here, do you wanna keep this?
- 14:31Keep it on to someone else.
- 14:32Pass it on to somebody that like, that's like me and Nick's like, favorite thing to do is just like a cheapo umbrella stroller.
- 14:37Yep.
- 14:37My stroller is gonna be my pink spotlight, so I'll save a little bit of it.
- 14:41For that, because that was a must have for this trip.
- 14:43For sure.
- 14:44And yeah, I just love a stroller.
- 14:46Like, I feel like I miss having a stroller.
- 14:48You know, like the first time I went to the mall without a stroller, I was like, where do I put my bags?
- 14:52I know, like, I forgot what it was like to run an errand.
- 14:55It's more for, it's more for us.
- 14:56My drink, my, the cup holder, like all of it a stroll.
- 15:00I just wanna have a stroller just to be, I agree with you out by myself.
- 15:03I agree.
- 15:03It's gonna be a sad day when we have outgrown the stroller.
- 15:06And actually why I got this stroller was because the weight limit was higher.
- 15:10And I was like, good.
- 15:10We can keep them in it longer, because I just, I love it.
- 15:13I love having my bag and I mm-hmm.
- 15:15Because I like my stuff with me.
- 15:17Mm-hmm.
- 15:18I hate ha, just having a tote for the day.
- 15:20Like absolutely not.
- 15:21I need the stroller packed with all the things.
- 15:23It's co.
- 15:23So that's what we did.
- 15:24It's so convenient.
- 15:24I know.
- 15:24A stroller is a luxury in life For sure.
- 15:27I love it.
- 15:27We went to Disney a few, two years ago, so Joseph was 10 even he was in the stroller by the end of the day.
- 15:32Oh, I believe it.
- 15:33We had two stroll.
- 15:34Nick was like, we're gonna rent one.
- 15:35I go, no, no, no, no.
- 15:36We need, everyone needs need two strollers.
- 15:38The boys need to see two.
- 15:39Everyone needs to, HES, they're eight and 10.
- 15:40They're not gonna be, I go, I'm gonna be sitting down in the stroller.
- 15:43I know, I know.
- 15:43We're renting two and sure enough like everybody was in that stroller.
- 15:46I know.
- 15:47I feel like it's the best because you're just like, hop in and then you're not the one that's having to carry them and lug them around.
- 15:53Or if they decide they wanna walk, but then they don't wanna walk and then have to hey, just hop in and hop out.
- 15:57Yep.
- 15:57It's the best.
- 15:58Oh, literally the best.
- 15:59No stroller days.
- 16:00Yeah.
- 16:01Just goes so fast.
- 16:02I'm so happy you got away.
- 16:03I am too.
- 16:03I'm happy that we did it.
- 16:05It was nice to see that we could actually like take this type of vacation where it's not just an Airbnb, we are Airbnb like later on in the, I'm saying Airbnb, but like we are renting a house like later on in the year we rent that the summer beach house.
- 16:19And we do like a couple of other trips throughout the year where we have more of that like residential feel.
- 16:26And that's great.
- 16:28And I think that's real.
- 16:28That's a different trip.
- 16:29It's a different trip.
- 16:30It feels more, this actually felt more like a vacation.
- 16:34Mm-hmm.
- 16:34Than I think we've ever had with kids.
- 16:37Did you drink?
- 16:38I did have a couple of drinks.
- 16:39I did.
- 16:40Oh, I love that.
- 16:41I did.
- 16:41I did.
- 16:42Yeah.
- 16:42Because I, not that I'm like, poo-pooing your sobriety.
- 16:45No, but I love that you had a drink.
- 16:46Well, that kind of proves that I was like relaxed enough to have a drink because I was so anxious.
- 16:51I was like, I don't wanna put anything else in the mix that's gonna disrupt me.
- 16:55But I felt like I felt calm enough to have a beverage, I think that based on all of this, like what you, what we just discussed, don't you feel like that's why people end up going to the same place over and over again?
- 17:07It's, I can totally see that.
- 17:08'cause once you're there, your kids don't have travel anxiety.
- 17:12Yep.
- 17:12And you don't have travel anxiety.
- 17:14I know we're talking a lot about travel anxiety today.
- 17:16Yeah.
- 17:16But I feel like.
- 17:18My kids, two in particular, and I have it, have so much anxiety.
- 17:23Mm-hmm.
- 17:23And I feel like the more I do hard things and the more I end up on the other side and I'm like, oh, I did this and I worked through all the possible scenarios and.
- 17:34I'm okay.
- 17:34Yeah.
- 17:35The less anxiety that I have.
- 17:37But my kids have so much fear for what's coming next and all these impossible situations that could be occurring.
- 17:43I mean I have all those same fears too.
- 17:45So like with travel in particular, if you are go into the same place and you're familiar with it.
- 17:50Yes.
- 17:50And you know, okay, this is where we can get our food.
- 17:53I don't have to have food anxiety, like I'm gonna be hungry or hangry like you can Instacart groceries from here.
- 17:59This is where we can get shades so we don't get a sunburn.
- 18:02It's like, yes.
- 18:03It's like you, no way.
- 18:03We won't be too close to the water.
- 18:04I don't have to worry about, my kids are gonna drown'cause we're like on top of the water.
- 18:08This is where the pool, all of these crazy thought thoughts.
- 18:10That makes sense.
- 18:11You think of over and over and over again.
- 18:12Yep.
- 18:12When you take your kids on vacation.
- 18:14Yep.
- 18:14It makes so much sense.
- 18:15'cause I could see that you're like, okay, if we go back to that same spot now, you know all of the things and so it eliminates all of the anxiety that you would have otherwise.
- 18:23I know Nick and I have completely different anxieties when we travel.
- 18:27So when we go anywhere, anywhere, Nick will be like, I need a map.
- 18:31I'm like, you need a map.
- 18:32He's like, I need a map.
- 18:34All right.
- 18:34So he'll take a map and he wants to like memorize the layout of where we are, of where he's, he wants to know where all the restaurants are, where the bathrooms are, where the exit is, where the pools are.
- 18:44And he wants to like take a lap.
- 18:46Like we went to the Atlantis a few years ago and he wanted to take like a full lap of the Atlantis until he had like a mental map in his mind and he knew where the full he full lay of the land.
- 18:55The full lay of the land.
- 18:56I get that.
- 18:56Whereas I'm like, yeah, like that's not my worry.
- 18:59That's my worry.
- 19:00That was your worry.
- 19:01I need to know where everything is.
- 19:03This, yes.
- 19:03It's like the elimination of surprise.
- 19:06And being prepared, right?
- 19:08Yes.
- 19:08Like knowing where everything is that when I don't know all of that information, that's what makes me uneasy.
- 19:14Yeah.
- 19:14My worry is usually where is the food?
- 19:17Like where, where is the next meal coming from?
- 19:20Like, am I gonna have food in the room for the kids when they wake up?
- 19:22Are they gonna be like screaming for food?
- 19:25So my favorite place to travel with my kids is the Baja Mar.
- 19:28Mm-hmm.
- 19:29I know you've always said that.
- 19:30I'm obsessed with that place, and I'm sure that there are so many better places to take your family.
- 19:34Please share them with me.
- 19:35But I just love that place so much.
- 19:38Where we stay now is we stay in the reserves tower.
- 19:41So you eliminate the line for checking in the line for check-in, in the regular tower can take two hours.
- 19:47It's so, so massive, busy there.
- 19:49Massive.
- 19:50You get.
- 19:51Quick check, check in and check out.
- 19:52Which saves a lot of time if you've just traveled all day and you're like in and out in 15 minutes, and then there's breakfast and happy hour every day.
- 20:00So that's included.
- 20:02So you can, like, my kids can walk downstairs, they can get whatever they want to eat or drink, and then there's happy hour from five to seven.
- 20:09So if they don't love where we're going for dinner that night, they can eat there.
- 20:12I'm like, then you've already eaten something.
- 20:14Yep.
- 20:14You know, or like when they come back from the pool at five and they're starving, they can just eat there.
- 20:19So I love that.
- 20:20I put a lot of emphasis on the food.
- 20:23I'm always worried somebody's gonna be hungry.
- 20:25'cause I totally, food affects my mood.
- 20:26I know.
- 20:27Well, I feel the same way.
- 20:28And with like the little kids being picky and stuff like that was what I was worried about was like, what if they don't like what is at the restaurant?
- 20:35And but we were really lucky, grateful.
- 20:38I mean, I know we put a lot of thought into it.
- 20:41Yeah, you did.
- 20:41And.
- 20:42We were just like really happy with the outcome of it.
- 20:45And so I feel good I don't know if it's a milestone or it's something, it is a huge milestone.
- 20:49You did a family vacation, it's something under our belt.
- 20:51Now you're gonna do it again.
- 20:52Well, now we know we can travel that way.
- 20:54And for me, that was something I've talked about here and I've admitted that was something that really.
- 21:00Bothered me about how we were kind of living was that was so important to not only me, not only my husband, but our life together.
- 21:08Yeah.
- 21:08It was like something that we enjoyed doing so much.
- 21:11And then it also was something that my business, like my own work was kind of revolved around.
- 21:16So it felt like when we took that away and it wasn't intentional, it was just kind of like the way mm-hmm.
- 21:21Everything kind of worked, but it felt like a huge loss in like all aspects of my life.
- 21:28So to kind of have that back and feel good about it, and you can do it again, it feels like, to your point, like I, okay, we did the hard thing and you're like, okay, we can do this.
- 21:37You know?
- 21:37And you had an enjoyable vacation with your family.
- 21:39That's, we did so awesome.
- 21:40It was really special and we made a lot of memories.
- 21:43I do think that it's so important to do something like that, and I also think that.
- 21:49Because of the like resort aspect.
- 21:52Again, I know it's not always like possible to do that, but I was kind of glad that I pushed for that and it wasn't like, it wasn't for the reasons that you think like, yes, of course I don't want to have to be cooking and cleaning and all of the things that we normally have to do.
- 22:06It's because those things end up taking away from time with the family.
- 22:12Yeah.
- 22:12And so if you don't have to do those things, yeah, you are fully emerged in family time.
- 22:16You're fully Yes, exactly.
- 22:17And so for me, I never thought of it like that.
- 22:19Yes, it's so great to go away and then you're like, okay, you have all the comforts of home and you have the washer dryer and you have the dishwasher, and you have the fridge that you could stock and all of the things in your own bedroom so that you can have de like kind of time to decompress.
- 22:32But then.
- 22:33You eliminate.
- 22:35Mm-hmm.
- 22:35You know, some of the extra time to spend together to create those memories.
- 22:39So, because we weren't having to worry about cleaning the kitchen and, like washing the, the clothes that we brought it just it gave us more, like we were solely focused on the family.
- 22:50Yeah.
- 22:50Do you feel like it was a good time to go away?
- 22:53Were you ready to come home?
- 22:54Or like, do you feel like it was like a good time to go?
- 22:56We went for five nights.
- 22:57I think by four and a half of those days I was kind of ready for like, my old routine again.
- 23:04Yeah.
- 23:04But I think, and, but like the kids were, they could have stayed.
- 23:07Like, they loved it so much.
- 23:09They were just having the best time.
- 23:10What did they say about it?
- 23:11They loved it.
- 23:12They had the best time.
- 23:14They remember things like even from the trip now, like they're still talking about stuff and they kind of had, they made like their own little inside jokes on the trip and like their own little language that they speak together and oh my god, they had a great time and it was really nice.
- 23:27Like, oh my god, Layla is such a little social butterfly.
- 23:30The pictures you were sending us mange.
- 23:32And I of her like chatting it up, she was on the airplane like going down the aisles, like saying hello to everyone.
- 23:38She was in restaurants like turning around saying hello to everybody.
- 23:41Meanwhile I'm like, buried under five layers.
- 23:44Like please don't talk to me.
- 23:46I don't wanna see anybody like you.
- 23:48So cute.
- 23:49I'm not in my best moment.
- 23:50She's so cute.
- 23:51So funny.
- 23:51I love it.
- 23:52Well I'm happy that you went away Yeah.
- 23:55With your kids.
- 23:55Thank you.
- 23:56And thank you for the recommendation.
- 23:57'cause you were one of the people we had like a, we had a few people that kind of like recommended this place to us and then we, when we looked into it, we were like, okay, it makes total sense why.
- 24:06And now when I'm coming home from it, I've.
- 24:10Like, it feels like a million messages and people messaging me about it and I'm like, yes, if, if you have little kids, especially, I cannot recommend this place enough.
- 24:18It was the JW Marriott in Marco Island.
- 24:21And so it's like beachy resort, like you feel like you might be in the Caribbean vibe.
- 24:26Well, and also because it's on the west coast, it's on, it's on the Gulf, so you it's so beautiful.
- 24:30The sunsets there are sunset.
- 24:32Nothing else in the whole world on Unreal.
- 24:33They have that arcade there.
- 24:35The kids club.
- 24:36They have a waterside, like a amazing kids pool with like a zero entry.
- 24:40So like you don't have to worry about the kids.
- 24:42The beaches were huge, which was great and we would like rent a beach hut.
- 24:47Mm-hmm.
- 24:47So like we, we were had home beach far enough away from the water where they weren't gonna dart into the water.
- 24:52Like it was just, it was so great and the beaches were flat.
- 24:54The sand there is so like powdery, it doesn't get hot.
- 24:58It's just like literally perfection.
- 24:59I can go on and on and on and on.
- 25:01And that's why we had the, you found away from home.
- 25:03I did.
- 25:04I love it.

- 26:01But what about you?
- 26:01You traveled with Nick.
- 26:02You did like another like weekends trip.
- 26:04Yeah.
- 26:05So I mean, I know sometimes me talking about like wanting to be with my husband all the time is nauseating to some of our listeners.
- 26:12So mute me if you're one of those people.
- 26:15But I like to hang out with my husband and I don't get a chance to hang out with him when we're home because our lives just don't allow for it.
- 26:21You guys are so busy.
- 26:22Avon, Christina and Nick literally don't talk.
- 26:24Mm-hmm.
- 26:24We talk like shop, we talk like who's picking up who, who has to work today?
- 26:28Who has this, who has that?
- 26:29Like we don't speak.
- 26:30I don't know how you have so much going on.
- 26:32I don't know.
- 26:33How we can fix that.
- 26:34But for right now, our remedy is going away.
- 26:37Mm-hmm.
- 26:37So we went away with friends for a long weekend in February, I think.
- 26:42Mm-hmm.
- 26:42And that was really fun.
- 26:44But what happens when you go on French trip is I hang out with the girls and hangs out with the boys always.
- 26:47Which there's a time and a place for that too.
- 26:49But we got home and we were like trying to like talk and hang out and they were like, you were just away, blah, blah, blah.
- 26:55Give us attention.
- 26:56We were like, we didn't even really hang out.
- 26:58Yeah.
- 26:58Because we were away with friends.
- 26:59It was a friend trip.
- 27:00So Nick got invited to go on this work trip and the meeting was over the weekend, but we, he had to go in like two days early'cause he had to do interviews.
- 27:10So he's like, come with me.
- 27:11I only have like two, like two hour long interviews and then we can hang out just us two.
- 27:16Nice.
- 27:16So we flew out on Wednesday morning, it was like a snowstorm here.
- 27:20Mm-hmm.
- 27:21And the kids had a delay.
- 27:22Whatever was a nightmare.
- 27:23But we made it work and we had all day Wednesday and all day Thursday together and we had so much fun together.
- 27:28We went to the spa together.
- 27:31We had like drinks together.
- 27:32We went shopping, we went out to dinner.
- 27:34We like had really, really good quality time together out we got to hang out and be stupid and say all the dumb shit that we like to say to each other.
- 27:41Yeah.
- 27:41And then early Friday morning I hopped on a plane and I came home'cause I had to do the weekend.
- 27:45Yep.
- 27:46Round up.
- 27:47Yep.
- 27:47So we had to like hockey, dance, competition, all the things.
- 27:51But I, it was perfect to go away during the week while they were in school.
- 27:54That's amazing.
- 27:55All the things are still happening, right?
- 27:56Miss?
- 27:58Yeah.
- 27:58A weekend's trip is hard.
- 27:59When you have older kids in there and activities, the activities are on the weekends.
- 28:02Yeah.
- 28:02So it's hard to leave on the weekend.
- 28:04I even think just in general, it's hard to leave on the weekend because that's usually the time that we're like, this is family time.
- 28:10Right.
- 28:10And so to your point Yeah.
- 28:11They're looking, your kids are looking for, for that.
- 28:12Yeah.
- 28:12That's the time where they're, you know, if they're busy during the week and they have school or there's activities or caregivers during that time, yeah.
- 28:18It doesn't feel out of the normal, but when you lose the weekend, you feel like, okay, well that's the time.
- 28:25You know?
- 28:25So I totally agree with that.
- 28:26That's a good little hack.
- 28:27Yeah.
- 28:27I like a, I like a weekday vacation.
- 28:29We had, we had a great time.
- 28:31We went to the Restoration Hardware, restaurant.
- 28:34So Nice.
- 28:34I love that.
- 28:35That they have in Jacksonville, it's like a rooftop.
- 28:37Mm-hmm.
- 28:37It's so beautiful.
- 28:38We had like a delicious meal, which just like fun.
- 28:40Nothing that we're doing is like outta the ordinary, like we went shopping.
- 28:43No, it's just we had dinner.
- 28:45Dinner, we, we sat at the beach and like, yeah.
- 28:47Had guacamole and I drank a margarita.
- 28:50Like, I think that the just like being able to hang out, like uninterrupted and just getting to it feels like you're kind of dating again, right?
- 28:57Yeah.
- 28:58Like it just feels like it's back to that.
- 28:59It's nice.
- 29:00It was so much fun.
- 29:00But that was a week ago and I'm like, I haven't seen you since we got back.
- 29:03I know, right?
- 29:04What's up?
- 29:04But the anxiety of leaving my kids.
- 29:08Yeah.
- 29:08Talk to me about that.
- 29:09And you always say that it's, so that's like one of your things is like travel while they're young.
- 29:13And I'm like, what?
- 29:15Because I would think that it gets easier to travel as they get a little bit older and I'm thinking of that in terms of like, maybe it's less to put on other people who would step in to take care of your kids, but you're saying no.
- 29:29'cause the, the older the kids are, the busier they are and the more opinions they have of you leaving.
- 29:36Oh my God.
- 29:37100%.
- 29:38I mean, it's easier in the sense that they're theoretically easier.
- 29:43Like my 13-year-old in this whole now, and he's in his room, we don't, we didn't even know he was here.
- 29:46Right.
- 29:47When he was three years old, you'd very much know he was here.
- 29:49Right.
- 29:49We'd have to cancel this right recording today.
- 29:51Right.
- 29:51Or I'd have to get like a sitter or something for him.
- 29:53So it's easier in that sense, but it's not easier in the sense that, I have aging parents.
- 29:59They were also 10 years younger when we used to do this 10 years ago.
- 30:03And I'm like cognizant of leaving anybody who's helping me.
- 30:06I don't wanna put all the stuff that I have to do every day.
- 30:10On them, even though they're offering to do it.
- 30:12I'm like, it's not fair to make them drive for four hours on a Thursday.
- 30:16So I'm like, yeah.
- 30:16'cause your kids have busy lives.
- 30:18Like they have activities and there's, and they have early activities, and so it is a lot.
- 30:22Yeah.
- 30:22So, and then they call you and then they call you and they're crying.
- 30:25I want you to come home.
- 30:27I miss you.
- 30:27When they're like that little, they don't Right.
- 30:29They're not gonna call you.
- 30:30Right.
- 30:30They can't even really talk.
- 30:31Right.
- 30:32I want you here.
- 30:33Why aren't you here?
- 30:33And then they make you feel bad that you're not there.
- 30:36Mm-hmm.
- 30:36And then when are you coming home?
- 30:38Are you coming to my dance?
- 30:39Are you come like, they have anxiety.
- 30:40There's, they, they have separation anxiety.
- 30:42Yeah.
- 30:43So that's why I have such a hard time leaving them because not that I feel bad that I'm leaving them, that I feel bad that they have such anxiety that I'm gone.
- 30:51They love you.
- 30:51Yeah.
- 30:52And Mila said to me, but Mom, you do everything.
- 30:55I'm like, yeah, that's why I am leaving, because I'm taking a trip.
- 30:58I, I quite literally do everything.
- 31:01I think like one of the things that I realized though from the trip and this goes along with our episode with Christine from last week, about like doing the hard things, but it's like once.
- 31:10You're actually in the situation, you really can problem solve in real time.
- 31:16Mm-hmm.
- 31:16That was like, my takeaway from the trip is like, I don't have to worry in advance about all of the things that could go wrong, we'll figure it out if and when we're presented with that problem, and so that's something that I'm working through like every day because that's something I do in my life, you know, is that I like pre worry about everything.
- 31:40And it's unnecessary.
- 31:41Yes.
- 31:42And it's unnecessary because I think that I have all the tools and a lot of experience under my belt to problem solve in real time versus having to problem solve.
- 31:54So far in advance.
- 31:55Now, I, I don't think you know, that doesn't mean that you don't have to be prepared for anything.
- 31:59Mm-hmm.
- 32:00But I think that it's just like the mental worry.
- 32:03You can be proactive and say, yes, I would like to have these few things with me.
- 32:07You know, if we're talking about packing or I wanna have some tools at my disposal in the event that that happens.
- 32:13But you don't have to worry about it where it would, like, it's, it almost makes me sick to my stomach.
- 32:18Right.
- 32:18I know Joseph just got, is getting picked up right now to go play squash by one of my friend's, like one of our friend's sons kids.
- 32:24And one of the friends, Christina just goes, he's a man.
- 32:27He's a man.
- 32:28I'm like, what?
- 32:29I'm sorry, what?
- 32:29He's a 17-year-old man.
- 32:31He ferring.
- 32:32I'm sorry.
- 32:32What?
- 32:33I know.
- 32:33Well, he's had his license for a year.
- 32:34Now he can drive.
- 32:35Yeah.
- 32:35That's wild.
- 32:36It's crazy guys.
- 32:37It really happens fast.
- 32:38It's like what everyone says, you know?
- 32:40It's like you really blink and.
- 32:42I am real time seeing this, like I know.
- 32:44Fly by.
- 32:45That's wild.
- 32:45Okay.
- 32:46But anyways, back to your non-anxious statement that you just made.
- 32:49It's like, if you are at like a restaurant, taking your kids to a restaurant and you're worrying like, oh my God, they're gonna melt down and then they're gonna disrupt the person at the table next to us and this, and this.
- 32:58Okay, well, maybe you don't show up at a restaurant with them hangry.
- 33:01Maybe show up with some pretzels, maybe bring a little coloring thing.
- 33:05And then if they're melting down, just try to calm them down.
- 33:08Right.
- 33:09If people see a mother trying to soothe their child, right, right.
- 33:13Like, how angry can they possibly get at you?
- 33:15If your baby is screaming on an airplane and you are trying to calm your child down and like you are visibly looking like an actively engaged parent and you're not just like scrolling along, ignoring them, like who's gonna say anything to you?
- 33:29Well, I'm sure people do, but I liked to your point where you're, you need to be like, you need some level of preparation, but then you can figure the rest out.
- 33:37Yeah.
- 33:37You know what I mean?
- 33:38And I think that just comes with time and confidence as a mom and it, it's, it's not something overnight and it's something that I've had to work on because I feel like I've changed so much in so many ways, you know?
- 33:51Mm-hmm.
- 33:52Since becoming a mother, I'm such a different person.
- 33:54And in some ways I think it's so good.
- 33:56And then in some ways it's holding me back, you know, where I feel like I'm losing a lot of the confidence and the, but I have to just work on these things.
- 34:06And this was like one of those things that I had to work on.
- 34:08So do you feel like this was a huge confidence boost to you?
- 34:10This was a huge confidence boost to me.
- 34:12What ways do you feel like, like what areas specifically are you not, do you feel like you're not confident in yet?
- 34:17Yet?
- 34:17Well, you get quite yet.
- 34:18Well, you just gave that example where these were things that like maybe prior to the last.
- 34:24Year, maybe like I, I panic and like, I don't wanna go to a restaurant even around here because I don't want one of the kids to melt down.
- 34:32I, because you don't want them to disrupt other people.
- 34:34But that's what your worry is.
- 34:35I have had, I think that what I've been struggling with the last couple of years is like the, it's, I don't know if it's even considered postpartum anxiety anymore or if it's just almost like a freaking lifestyle at this point.
- 34:48You know, where it's, I know it started in the postpartum way with the intrusive thoughts and like what ifs and, all of that.
- 34:55But it just has snowballed.
- 34:58So it's, I can control what I can control in my own home, right?
- 35:02And so that's why I've been so rigid, regimented, and scheduled with the kids because it's what I can control when we remove the house and our kind of safe space and then my ability, ability to control things, then we're kind of like, it feels like to me like we're in the wild, wild west.
- 35:21And so when we remove ourselves from the bubble.
- 35:24Then there's all these other variables that I can't really control.
- 35:28And so I usually stop myself from even doing that.
- 35:33So I don't, so then you do a lot of the things, right?
- 35:35Like I don't, we don't venture out.
- 35:37This has changed a lot over the last year, I would say.
- 35:40As I started to get more mentally healthy, I feel like things aren't as big of a deal as they were in my head.
- 35:47But if you asked me a year ago, everything was a big deal to do an any sort of outing with the kids, it was very stressful.
- 35:55I think that there are, you know, to people that don't experience that level of anxiety, it might sound ridiculous, but I think that if anybody has experienced any sort of anxiety, especially any sort of postpartum or any anxiety around having kids and being with your kids and all of the things that come along with that, I think that people probably could relate to that.
- 36:16Of course, like when we had Lauren on, she had talked a lot about like anxiety.
- 36:20A couple of weeks ago, and I was resonating with a lot of the things she was talking about when she was like a, a younger mom and all of the things that were going on and was like, well, that's how I am now.
- 36:31A grocery store used to.
- 36:33Yes.
- 36:33She send her right back to the car.
- 36:34Yes.
- 36:35Like anything like that, like it's like all of the things that can go wrong and all the things that go on in your mind, like the what ifs and the worst case scenarios.
- 36:44And so I've just kind of had to learn as I've spent time working on myself, like I've had to work through those and it's one of those things where you unfortunately just have to do it.
- 36:57It's like lived experience.
- 36:58Yeah.
- 36:58Like you have to push yourself to do it.
- 37:02Know that.
- 37:03Yes.
- 37:03If you take them somewhere and they melt down, you figure it out in real time and then the next time you go to take them out.
- 37:10You're gonna feel a little bit more confident because you, you made it work last time.
- 37:14Right.
- 37:14Don't you find that kids sometimes are so entertained when they leave the house?
- 37:18They, they're easier.
- 37:19That sometimes they're easier.
- 37:20A lot of the time they're easier.
- 37:21Like they're just entertained, but they're entertained by the dinner.
- 37:24Yeah.
- 37:24You're not getting up from the table to get them their water.
- 37:28They're next course you're there with them, like playing tic-tac toe or doing whatever.
- 37:33So like you're engaging with them.
- 37:34Yeah.
- 37:34So sometimes dinner is a whole activity.
- 37:37If you can get outta your head and past your own bullshit of what if they meltdown?
- 37:41What if we disrupt the person next to us?
- 37:42What if they break something?
- 37:43What if, what if, what if like, yeah.
- 37:45What if they're entertained?
- 37:46What if this is a good experience?
- 37:48Yeah.
- 37:48What if this is fun?
- 37:49What if they eat something new that they've never tried before?
- 37:52What if we find out our kid likes steak and sushi and like, I don't know.
- 37:56What if this is like our reming fun activity?
- 37:59It's reframing.
- 38:00Yes.
- 38:02Yes.
- 38:02But you, I can recite all of those things because I've tried it now and I've taken them out to eat and it ended up, it ends up being like a fun activity now.
- 38:10Yeah.
- 38:10I'm not saying my kids don't meltdown at dinner.
- 38:13Of course they do, but they also are distracted at dinner.
- 38:16But nobody also had, but then you're, to your point, all of these other things come up that overshadow.
- 38:22Yeah.
- 38:23But the negative, so if you have a positive, it can overshadow the negative.
- 38:27Right.
- 38:27And if you have.
- 38:28More and more positives, then it starts to overshadow all of the negatives that you're worrying about, and so then you can kind of, instead of just worrying and making it a negative kind of experience, right, before it even happens, right?
- 38:40Your mind is kind of like, well, the last time yeah, we, we ended up having fun and that ended up being a memory and then that sort of takes over, right?
- 38:49The anxiety, right?
- 38:50Like what if you are trying to teach your kids good manners?
- 38:53What if you go to a restaurant and then they finally look at a server and say, may I please have apple juice?
- 38:58Like, what if that's the moment you're like, oh, wow.
- 39:01Right?
- 39:01My kid is listening to me and isn't a complete jerk.
- 39:03Right.
- 39:03Even though she's screaming at me the whole way here, right?
- 39:07We get out to the restaurant and she's polite, like, I don't know.
- 39:10There's, there's sometimes you just have to go for it because sometimes the what ifs, the real life, what ifs aren't bad and the mind what ifs are torture.
- 39:20I feel like our motto, the last like several weeks and all of the messaging and all the guests that we've had on has just been like about.
- 39:27Putting yourself out there.
- 39:29Mm-hmm.
- 39:29And I feel like this is like another example of just like, you have to just do something, you know?
- 39:35And a lot of the times it helps with whatever you're struggling with, oh, 100%.
- 39:41100%.
- 39:42We're going to dinner tonight.
- 39:43I think I told you.
- 39:44We're going to my brother-in-law's restaurant and I packed a dinner bag for the kids and I used to do these all the time when they were little.
- 39:50And I would keep it in the car and I would put like one of those scrubby pets.
- 39:54Have you seen those yet?
- 39:56They're these little white, they look like a little pet.
- 39:59And then they come with three markers.
- 40:02And then what you do is you dip your marker into water.
- 40:05The marker is white.
- 40:05Oh.
- 40:06So it can't, it's not gonna get anything else.
- 40:08But when the marker gets a little wet and you like, oh.
- 40:12Color on the scrubby pet.
- 40:14It like makes a color and then you can like wet the scrubby pet and like scrub it off and do it again.
- 40:19And so they're like, I know it's like a reusable color.
- 40:21Is that kind of, it's a reusable coloring book, but it's like a little miniature pet that then they can like play with.
- 40:25Yep.
- 40:26And I think they're like 3 99.
- 40:28We usually end up throwing the whole thing away, but it's like an activity, a dinner.
- 40:31So I used to always have these activities at dinner and I stopped doing them and the girls were like, now they're like into the squishies and oh, I need this in my, you know, toolkit to calm me down.
- 40:42So I reintroduced the dinner bag.
- 40:45So you have all the things.
- 40:46I have all the things in there again.
- 40:47Yeah.
- 40:47It's like they're toddlers again.
- 40:49Yeah, but they're not like, Joseph's like, where's my scrubby pet?
- 40:52I'm like, you are almost 13 and you're gonna order a steak and like a martini at dinner tonight.
- 40:56And you want a scrubby pet?
- 40:57Fine.
- 40:58I'll get one for you.
- 41:00I love the dinner bag.
- 41:01No, but bring a dinner bag.
- 41:03They're so fun.
- 41:03And it's not the stuff that they have here at home, it's like something special for while you're out.
- 41:07Do you have any travel hacks that you discovered while you were gone that you could like share with a mom?
- 41:12'cause spring break is coming up.
- 41:13People are gonna be traveling in in, in April.
- 41:15Mm-hmm.
- 41:16Like what is something that you would say to somebody like, what's a travel hack for like the plane ride there?
- 41:20Anything come up for that?
- 41:21We did have, we kind of had like the travel bag of like the things to kind of pull out and keep them distracted.
- 41:26I thought I was doing such a like.
- 41:31Service to myself by, I went on Disney Plus and downloaded a bunch of movies and like things that they like to watch, like Bluey and you know, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Moana and all the things that they like.
- 41:43And I seriously spent time downloading all these things, right?
- 41:46So they could access it on the plane.
- 41:47And when we get to the plane and we didn't have wifi, so it didn't work.
- 41:52Oh, no.
- 41:52And I was like, I'm sorry, am I dumb?
- 41:54Like I, oh, it wasn't downloaded?
- 41:55It wasn't actually downloaded.
- 41:56Oh.
- 41:56I couldn't actually access the app without wifi, so I did have to buy wifi on the plane.
- 42:02That was the only way I could get it to work.
- 42:04Okay.
- 42:04Was I had to buy wifi on the plane, then I could open up Disney Plus.
- 42:08But then I was like, then this is stupid because now I could just access anything that I have, but whatever.
- 42:13Um.
- 42:14But it wa I don't know.
- 42:15I don't know why that happened, so I can't give advice for that.
- 42:18Maybe someone needs to give me advice for that, but my Pink Spotlight is gonna be another one.
- 42:23I can wait for that though.
- 42:25Okay.
- 42:25So I'll give you advice for that.
- 42:27Yeah, tell me'cause I need that before you leave the house.
- 42:28Yeah.
- 42:29Turn off the wifi and put your device on airplane mode.
- 42:32So you can see like, okay, well this app even works.
- 42:36Oh.
- 42:36Because the last thing you wanna do is to hand your kid an iPad.
- 42:40Well, that's what basically happens.
- 42:41And then have them be like, it's not working, and then it like, makes it almost worse.
- 42:45Oh my God.
- 42:45So that is such a good, that would've put on airplane at home.
- 42:49What do you think?
- 42:49I of course did that.
- 42:50Oh, panic.
- 42:51Panic.
- 42:51And you're like big wifi.
- 42:52No, no.
- 42:52Before that.
- 42:53Before that.
- 42:54Promised the world.
- 42:56Oh.
- 42:56Oh, I'm sure guys.
- 42:58Wait till you see what you're going to get to do on the plane.
- 43:00Yeah.
- 43:00To watch unlimited unlimit.
- 43:01Unlimit and I have all this.
- 43:02Yeah.
- 43:03Unlimited bluey and like all of the episodes that they love of that.
- 43:06And I went through individually picking the ones that they love and then they couldn't get it and they, I was like, oh my god, that, so that is such a good tip.
- 43:14I've been there before.
- 43:15That is such a good tip so many times.
- 43:17'cause you're like, oh my God, I thought I was preparing myself and like showing up kind of ready to go.
- 43:22And I was it, do you have fire tablets or the app?
- 43:24I had, no, we were just using our iPad.
- 43:26Oh.
- 43:26Like the family.
- 43:27Like we have a family iPad.
- 43:28Yeah.
- 43:28And that's, yeah.
- 43:29And so, no, I had no idea that none of these things would work.
- 43:33And of course, that's a really good tip.
- 43:35Yeah.
- 43:35I do it for myself too.
- 43:37Yeah.
- 43:37Because that's like a good way for me to know, like, okay, did I actually download this podcast?
- 43:41Right.
- 43:41Or is my audio book downloaded?
- 43:43So I just turn it onto airplane mode.
- 43:46Okay, so you do a little trial and error before, right?
- 43:48Yeah.
- 43:48Love that.
- 43:49Trial and error before any other, you're, I feel like you're.
- 43:52So Mila's dance team packs these snack boxes for all the dance competition.
- 43:56Have you heard of Thele Box?
- 43:58I, I just don't have the little snack box.
- 43:59I think it comes from the word like bait and tap isles.
- 44:02It's like from a fishing.
- 44:03Fishing, because it, that's what it looks like.
- 44:05Yep.
- 44:05We like bedazzled, ours, I'm like a big, so cute.
- 44:09A learn now it's basically like a little container with compartments.
- 44:12Yeah.
- 44:13And so you can put a bunch of different snacks together, like with one lid.
- 44:16Right.
- 44:16But there's different compartments, so Right.
- 44:18So we have like a little bit of pirate booty.
- 44:20A little bit of pretzel.
- 44:20I love that.
- 44:21A, that bit of beef jerky, like Swedish fish.
- 44:24So you can put fruit in there.
- 44:25Yep.
- 44:26You can put like a little vegetable.
- 44:27That's so cute.
- 44:27Our snack boxes are not healthy.
- 44:29They are just No, no.
- 44:30They're pure garbage.
- 44:31That's fine.
- 44:32But the girls make their own snack boxes before we travel because then they'll eat it and they'll enjoy it.
- 44:38We did have a bunch of snacks with us.
- 44:40'cause I do, I think that that is a hundred percent necessary.
- 44:42And someone gave us this advice a long time ago that on travel days or any day where you're like experiencing some sort of disruption and the advice was it's not a real day.
- 44:54And I was like, I love that because I need to hear that.
- 44:57You know?
- 44:57So basically like you're not trying to keep them on a schedule.
- 45:02If they nap.
- 45:04In a random part of the day.
- 45:06That's a nap.
- 45:06That's the nap.
- 45:07And like if they if they're snacking all day and they don't have a real meal, that's okay.
- 45:12And so that like what Good advice, I love that.
- 45:15It's like, so like Raja and I looked at each other that day, today's not real.
- 45:18And we were like, today's not our real day.
- 45:20Like, it's like as much TV the naps happen when they, whenever they happen or if they skip'em, they skip'em.
- 45:26They're, you know, they have as many snacks as they want because you're basically just trying to keep everybody happy.
- 45:31Mm-hmm.
- 45:32For the whole time.
- 45:32And it kind of.
- 45:33That mindset just made me like, it's okay.
- 45:35You're not derailing all of your parenting that you've put in all this effort and it's alright.
- 45:40Right.
- 45:40So for two of the days we lived off of the snacks, just, it was like, sure.
- 45:44Keep the snacks coming.
- 45:46Like just out of the bag.
- 45:47Did you drink coffee?
- 45:47I swear.
- 45:48No.
- 45:49I brought Mya.
- 45:50You brought your matcha.
- 45:50Brought I that my matcha with me.
- 45:52I brought,'cause of course me being the psychopath I am, I like went on their site on the, the hotel and I was like, is there a matcha anywhere on the menu?
- 46:01And it, there was not, to my knowledge, that's not a psycho thing to do.
- 46:04I got, I love when I got there I was like double checking and I did not see a matcha anywhere on any menu.
- 46:09Even in the um, even in the little coffee places.
- 46:12Okay.
- 46:12I just didn't see one.
- 46:13Maybe you had one.
- 46:14All you have to do is do hot water.
- 46:15Yep.
- 46:15I brought little did ice.
- 46:16I did ice matcha too.
- 46:18So I just love it.
- 46:18Became it.
- 46:19I brought my own matcha powder and I brought it with me to breakfast and I was like scooping it.
- 46:23I think that that's a genius.
- 46:24And I brought my little whisk too, my little electric whisk.
- 46:27I have like a small one.
- 46:28Yeah.
- 46:28And I was doing, yep.
- 46:29I think that that's great.
- 46:30If you had diabetes, you wouldn't forget your insulin at home.
- 46:34So what is wrong with this?
- 46:35Um, I don't think they're exactly the same, but Sure.
- 46:37I like where you're going with this, but thank you.
- 46:41I guess you're right.
- 46:42It's pretty extreme.
- 46:43But anyways, so yes.
- 46:44If Pippa, if you have any travel advice with us, I always just feel like, I love the one-liners from other moms of like, you need this.
- 46:51Or like, this is how, like a little tip or trick or something because it's, I always get the best advice from other, somebody gave me this advice once.
- 46:59Oh, who was it?
- 47:00It was one of my friends at older kids and they said, when you're packing for your family in a Ziploc bag pack, travel, home clothes, because sometimes all of the clothes end up getting thrown around the hotel room or they get dirty or a mess.
- 47:14Or sometimes then the kids end up wearing the travel home outfit.
- 47:17Yes.
- 47:17And then you're like, they have nothing to wear alone.
- 47:18At the end of the trip everybody's like maybe too tired or grumpy or whatever.
- 47:22Yeah.
- 47:22By the end of the trip.
- 47:23And you just wanna get them home, but you just want like a fresh outfit to wear.
- 47:28Yep.
- 47:28Cozy.
- 47:28Like a cozy outfit.
- 47:29Yep.
- 47:29So I always pack a home outfit and a Ziploc bag.
- 47:32Very smart.
- 47:32And I keep it in my bag so they don't separate access it.
- 47:35I love it and whatever.
- 47:36And it's usually just leggings and a long sleeve shirt are for the boys, like sweats and a long sleeve Yep.
- 47:42Shirt.
- 47:42So that's my other like travel.
- 47:44I love that tip.
- 47:46My last one, i'm gonna share it for my pink spotlight.
- 47:49'cause I loved it.
- 47:50It was so, you guys already know, I already spoiled it.
- 47:52But our pink spotlight again is our tip of the week.
- 47:55So like a person, place, thing, tip, mantra, anything.
- 47:58Making life a little bit better.
- 48:00Mine this week is our double stroller.
- 48:03Ooh.
- 48:03So again, it was one of these things I went back and forth on like, what double stroller should we get?
- 48:09I looked up like all different ones.
- 48:11There was some available on Amazon that were like a lot less, there were crazy expensive ones.
- 48:16I was doing like a lot of research on it and I knew we needed one because, especially when we booked this resort, because again, this resort was huge.
- 48:26This was, it was a convention center.
- 48:28Wow.
- 48:28So it was to go from even the room to breakfast was probably like a 10 minute walk.
- 48:34Like it was, yeah.
- 48:35Even like room to, yep.
- 48:37Elevator and down and whatever's, lot you, you can eliminate those extra steps for those little legs.
- 48:42Exactly.
- 48:42So I knew we wa we wanted to bring a double stroller, like my husband was, was even like, oh, do you think we need that?
- 48:47And I was like, yes, we're definitely going to need it.
- 48:49Like, imagine like having to lug all of the things and them and then one of them doesn't wanna walk.
- 48:55And so, you know, and I did a ton of research, ended up settling on the Silver Cross Jet double stroller.
- 49:03Mm-hmm.
- 49:03So it's a side-by-side stroller.
- 49:04Mm-hmm.
- 49:05It's our fourth silver cross stroller, which is insane to say, but I feel like when you like have kids, you're like, there's so many different things that you need strollers for.
- 49:14We had, my God, like God, the Silver Cross stroller, that was like the bassinet and the jump seat.
- 49:18And then we had a single one and then we had the jet.
- 49:22Single stroller.
- 49:23Mm-hmm.
- 49:23That was like a travel stroller.
- 49:24So this one is a double side-by-side stroller was a hundred percent necessary.
- 49:30And there was storage on the bottom.
- 49:32The reason why I ended up with this one and not going with one from Amazon is because of the weight limit.
- 49:38So the weight limit was 50 pounds per seat, which means that, like Leo is almost four and he's I think in hi in the mid thirties.
- 49:46So we have like a ways to go where we can like mm-hmm.
- 49:49He can use the stroller.
- 49:50A lot of them were like capped out at 40 or even under.
- 49:53Mm-hmm.
- 49:54And so you lose like, you know, as soon as the kid kind of outgrows it, then there's worry that it's, you know, you don't want it to topple over or the weight to be off or something.
- 50:01So I was like, we have a ways to go if, if, if it's 50 pounds and then we can use it.
- 50:06It's like Disney friendly.
- 50:07Mm-hmm.
- 50:07So there was like other things I knew that investment was gonna go, does it recline if they wanna lay back?
- 50:12Not only reclines, but each individual seat reclines.
- 50:15Aw, that's changer.
- 50:15So like Changer, which is so nice.
- 50:16Game changer.
- 50:16Nice changer.
- 50:16I was figuring the same thing, like if one of them wanted to nap and the other one didn't.
- 50:21And there's storage on the bottom, which is great.
- 50:23And then it just folds up in like two seconds.
- 50:26Like you just literally press two buttons on the side and it collapses.
- 50:30We were able to gate check it.
- 50:32We ended up getting the bag too, so that we could, you know, it wouldn't get damaged.
- 50:36It had like snack containers.
- 50:37There's like a drink thing.
- 50:39It is like, it's just the, it's like the minivan.
- 50:41Van of the strollers.
- 50:42Yes.
- 50:42And we were like, and what was so nice about it was that it collapsed so easily so we could like collapse it and put it in the room and it didn't take up a ton of space.
- 50:50And then even at some of the restaurants, we would just collapse, check it at the door, and then just either keep it by the door or we would like sneak it behind our table.
- 50:57So we were like, oh, okay.
- 50:58We just had it and it.
- 51:00Opened easily.
- 51:01It was literally just the best today.
- 51:03Oh, I love that.
- 51:04And sometimes my husband thinks I'm just like, he's like, we need another stroller.
- 51:07I'm like, we do.
- 51:08'cause like now we're getting into the place where it's like we need, if we're gonna be going on these trips and stuff, we need them to be able to hop in easily and we wanna be able to collapse it easily.
- 51:19Like you don't wanna be that parent that's standing there where you're like, I have no idea how this works.
- 51:23It's literally two buttons and it just collapses.
- 51:26Right.
- 51:26It's insane.
- 51:27So our garage was a stroller graveyard.
- 51:30I know for many, many years.
- 51:31People think it's ridiculous, but you're like, I don't know.
- 51:33There's just so many different, we had.
- 51:34We had the snap and go.
- 51:36Remember this?
- 51:36Did you have a snap and go?
- 51:38A snap and go is just a like a metal frame.
- 51:40Yep.
- 51:40It has like small wheels and all it does is it holds the car seat in it.
- 51:44Yes.
- 51:44Okay.
- 51:44And I had a single snap and go for Joseph.
- 51:47Then I had a double snap and go for the girls.
- 51:49I had a single stroller for Joseph.
- 51:51Then I had an umbrella single stroller for Joseph.
- 51:53Then I had a double umbrella stroller.
- 51:55Then I had a double jogging stroller.
- 51:57Right.
- 51:57Then I had the twins and I had the tandem stroller.
- 52:00Yes.
- 52:01That's because the double one was too wide.
- 52:03Too wide.
- 52:03Yep.
- 52:04Go like holding onto a two, like a 3-year-old and pushing the girls.
- 52:08Yep.
- 52:08So we had so many freaking strollers and then I started using the cheapo$10 one from Walmart.
- 52:14And Nick is like, I'm throwing everything away.
- 52:18They're all gone.
- 52:19But we still have our wagon.
- 52:20I haven't gotten rid of the wagon yet.
- 52:21We have a wagon tail.
- 52:23The wagon is, I love the wagon.
- 52:24I know the wagon is the best.
- 52:26There's like nothing like that stupid wagon.
- 52:28I know, I agree with you.
- 52:30But yeah, we had, we loved this.
- 52:31I highly recommend it.
- 52:32People were asking like, yeah, oh, do you need it?
- 52:35And I'm like, you do.
- 52:36Like you need you, if you don't have, if you don't if you have a kid that's old enough to walk and wouldn't get tired walking around a resort like that, everybody gets tired walking around.
- 52:44But if you have a little one, one or a few, like, yes, you, you need one.
- 52:49Like, oh, I love that.
- 52:50That's such a good recommendation because it's so overwhelming picking equipment like this.
- 52:54It it, so if you see somebody is ridiculous out in the wild using it and they're like, wait, you folded that up quickly.
- 53:00Yep.
- 53:00And that like, it holds all your stuff done purchased.
- 53:04And it's what to your point too is that like you need some of these things for different.
- 53:09Like there for different circumstances.
- 53:11Like for us, we need a different stroller.
- 53:14Like, because we live in such a hilly neighborhood.
- 53:17Mm-hmm.
- 53:17Like those wheels, those we need the big wheels.
- 53:19If you're in a city, like you might have something like this and that's all you use, you know?
- 53:24Mm-hmm.
- 53:24So it just completely depends on your situation.
- 53:26But I would really this, but you could probably use this for walks.
- 53:28We could, yeah.
- 53:29It was great.
- 53:29Great advice.
- 53:30Great advice.
- 53:30I love the video that you made for socials about the show, the Traveling, like a horror movie, the, oh, yeah.
- 53:36That was so good.
- 53:37What was funny is that I, I had to stretch it because they did so well on both of the flights.
- 53:45Like it's still, but it was a horror movie.
- 53:48It was horror because it's just yeah, like they were, I'm talking more all the stuff that you're bringing, it's all the shit, all the suitcases and wiping down the surfaces.
- 53:55Like the irony of the whole thing is actually your kids were perfect.
- 53:58They were great.
- 53:59They did as well as they could have.
- 54:01And it's still a horror movie, you know what I mean?
- 54:03Because it's like Layla was like walking around saying hi to everyone, taking her socks off in the middle of the aisle, you know, like they're biting each other playing and Who wants this seat and I want this snack.
- 54:15And, you know, so it's.
- 54:15Still like, you know, it's still a shit show.
- 54:18Oh my God.
- 54:18But they did.
- 54:18They did as well as they could have.
- 54:20So I had to really stretch.
- 54:21Raj was like, you really had to stretch that one out there because they did great.
- 54:25But it's funny.
- 54:25It was funny.
- 54:26Yeah.
- 54:26Oh, I love that.
- 54:27Thank you.
- 54:27That was good, mom.
- 54:28That was a good like mom humor.
- 54:30Yeah.
- 54:30Very relatable.
- 54:32Oh good.
- 54:33What about you?
- 54:33What's your spot?
- 54:34Alright.
- 54:34Right, so I have a product for this week.
- 54:36Yeah, I'll do a show and tell we've been getting lots of fun products set to the Pippa office lately, but this one stood out to me.
- 54:43So we were at a Yukon game a few weeks ago, and Nick was like, oh my God, there's a Bori booth over there.
- 54:47And it bori makes me, when I think of the brand Bori, I think of like in eighth.
- 54:52Like eighth grade, Christina.
- 54:53Because I remember I would wear the, The, or like the nasal pass patch that would like take off the blackhead.
- 55:00The blackheads.
- 55:01Yep.
- 55:01And I remember my first bout of skincare was Bori, and I remember seeing like the Bori commercials on tv.
- 55:06Yeah.
- 55:06That's such a millennial brand.
- 55:08It is such a millennial brand.
- 55:10Oh my God.
- 55:10Yeah.
- 55:10So they still of course have like the pimple patches and the nose patches, but they sent us this insane sunscreen.
- 55:17So I know like the Korean sunscreen is all the rage right now.
- 55:20Yes.
- 55:20Yep.
- 55:20And this mimics that feel of the Korean sunscreen.
- 55:25So I will be honest, I sometimes neglect the sunscreen step, because a lot of sunscreen feels like you're putting like.
- 55:33White heavy.
- 55:34Yes.
- 55:34It's like, yes.
- 55:35Chemicals on your face.
- 55:36It doesn't actually feel like, it's like my makeup's gonna sit on top of it.
- 55:39And sometimes, like the makeup I wear is, has sunscreen in it, but the one that I've been using recently does not have sunscreen in it, so I need to wear sunscreen.
- 55:49And this is insane.
- 55:51It looks white.
- 55:52Mm-hmm.
- 55:52Sunscreen.
- 55:53Mm-hmm.
- 55:53But it blends into your skin.
- 55:56Wow.
- 55:56It, it immediately, literally melts into your skin immediately and it smells Oh my gosh.
- 56:02It smells so good.
- 56:03I know.
- 56:03I'm so mad that I didn't have this before my trip'cause I would've loved to try it, but, and it's SPF 50 I, so it's, yeah.
- 56:08This is the bre uv.
- 56:10It's aqua rich SPF 50.
- 56:13It smells amazing.
- 56:14It is.
- 56:15So, and it's, it's definitely like a the texture of it is like silky.
- 56:21It's so cute.
- 56:21So it's not Yeah, it's very silky.
- 56:23It's under$20.
- 56:24Wow, wow, wow, wow.
- 56:25It's a great price and it's, it's awesome.
- 56:28We had Olga on, Olga was the aesthetician that we had on a couple weeks back, and if you didn't go listen to that episode, definitely listen to it.
- 56:35She talked about the importance of sunscreen and not missing that step, just about how important that step is.
- 56:42So like, this makes it very easy.
- 56:43This already blended in and I could totally see you wearing makeup on top of this.
- 56:47I have it.
- 56:47This my face right now.
- 56:47Yes.
- 56:48It kind of gives your face a glow.
- 56:49Yeah, it makes, it made my hand glowy.
- 56:51Well, this one's yours.
- 56:52I love it.
- 56:53It home and try it out.
- 56:53It.
- 56:53Now wait to try this it.
- 56:55Great.
- 56:55Fine.
- 56:56It's such it.
- 56:57Thank you Bey.
- 56:57It is such a good product.
- 56:59I'm obsessed with it.
- 57:00I love it.
- 57:00I also love like a drugstore find, like, I just feel like same.
- 57:03I, that's great.
- 57:05It's, it's like an elite drugstore find.
- 57:06They sell it at Ulta, you know?
- 57:08Yep.
- 57:09Amazon, all the different places.
- 57:10I love it.
- 57:11And Olga said, you don't need to spend a lot of money on sunscreen.
- 57:14Just make sure you have it on your face.
- 57:15Yep.
- 57:16This, yep.
- 57:16That's great.
- 57:17Good advice.
- 57:17So I love it.
- 57:19And yeah, I wore it when we were in Florida last week.
- 57:21It smells so good.
- 57:22I didn't get right on my face at all.
- 57:24Oh, it smells so good.
- 57:25I actually put a lot of sunscreen on my whole body when I was on that trip.
- 57:28Mm-hmm.
- 57:28Because I have a bad habit of forgetting, just laying out in the sun in general.
- 57:32Mm-hmm.
- 57:32And then burning myself.
- 57:34And then I'm like, why do I have age spots and sun spots?
- 57:38What am I doing wrong?
- 57:41This is wrong.
- 57:42Oh my God.
- 57:43I'm sitting here smelling my head.
- 57:44Wait, doesn't it smell good?
- 57:44Smell so good smell.
- 57:45I'm obsessed and my hands are now so soft.
- 57:47So I'm obsessed.
- 57:48I cannot wait to put this on.
- 57:50I just, I think it's a millennial brand for sure.
- 57:52Love it.
- 57:53Okay.
- 57:53Well, thank you Bre.
- 57:55That's amazing.
- 57:56Yeah.
- 57:56And okay, oh, we have Jane Sullivan coming on next week.
- 58:00Oh, that's gonna be so exciting.
- 58:02And so she's a financial advisor and her niche is that she advises mainly women as like the breadwinners in the family.
- 58:10That's like her niche field.
- 58:12A lot of the other people that she works with in her office are women, so she's awesome.
- 58:17That's gonna awesome.
- 58:17Be really exciting.
- 58:17Awesome.
