- 0:43Speaker 4: It is Will and Ryan and Riley and a host
- 0:46Speaker 4: of others.
- 0:46Speaker 2: You're back.
- 0:47Speaker 4: I am back, well, I was kind of back yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 4: week before last before Riley tripped out.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Hey, I'm good now though, are you yes?
- 0:56Speaker 4: Are you sure? I mean, the walking boot is there?
- 0:58Speaker 4: See the p's off the crutches now off the crutches.
- 1:00Speaker 4: But I don't know that that is the medically pertinent
- 1:03Speaker 4: thing to do right now. I don't think it was
- 1:05Speaker 4: recommended that she should be off her crutches. Yes, I
- 1:07Speaker 4: mean she's standing right here. Well, no, she's sitting right here,
- 1:10Speaker 4: so we can ask her, Riley, are you supposed to
- 1:12Speaker 4: be off of your crunches?
- 1:13Speaker 5: Only about twenty eighty percent.
- 1:16Speaker 6: Of the day's an athlete, so she's used to doing
- 1:19Speaker 6: what she wants.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I know, we got that. We got Caleb in here
- 1:22Speaker 4: as well. I mean, we've got essentially the Afternoon Zoo
- 1:25Speaker 4: going the whole house. We got a lot of transition
- 1:27Speaker 4: going on here in it, but it's all great. I
- 1:29Speaker 4: mean we had initially at the beginning of the year,
- 1:31Speaker 4: we wanted Riley to come in and get some more
- 1:34Speaker 4: you know, feel for what this live radio thing looked like.
- 1:37Speaker 4: And then you know, she fell, and then I had
- 1:40Speaker 4: to be in I had to be in Fort Worth
- 1:42Speaker 4: for the cheer competition last last weekend.
- 1:45Speaker 2: And you were going to be again just going to
- 1:46Speaker 2: be correct, until Frost decided to spend Mother Nature.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Oh gosh, I'm kind of excited about not having to
- 1:53Speaker 4: go back to Fort Worth. Although man, that trip to
- 1:56Speaker 4: Fort Worth, there were some very interesting things that occurred there.
- 2:00Speaker 4: A couple to explain a couple of things. First of all,
- 2:02Speaker 4: had fantastic meal. I had a It was this port
- 2:06Speaker 4: chop on on cheese grits with in dewey sausage gravy,
- 2:10Speaker 4: and a Frida egg.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That sounds really good.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it was really good. So I was there
- 2:13Speaker 4: for a cheer competition and my daughter's cheer team was
- 2:16Speaker 4: practicing Friday evening a week ago right about now in
- 2:19Speaker 4: the park across the street from the parking lot, I
- 2:21Speaker 4: guess from their hotel, and they were out there and
- 2:24Speaker 4: they're practicing their cheers. One of their cheers was it
- 2:27Speaker 4: shouts over and over again, you know, shouting at the crowd,
- 2:29Speaker 4: we want more. So they are doing this repeatedly. Apparently
- 2:34Speaker 4: there was somebody who is uh what do they call
- 2:36Speaker 4: it now housing is a homeless dude, right, but they've
- 2:41Speaker 4: got a special PC name for it. In surprise, surprise,
- 2:43Speaker 4: I don't know the PC name for it, but they
- 2:47Speaker 4: had that. He came over the hill shouting I don't
- 2:49Speaker 4: want any more. They were shouting I want, we want
- 2:53Speaker 4: more to the crowd, and he came over I don't
- 2:55Speaker 4: I don't want any more.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Was he just like regular homeless or like homeless? And
- 2:58Speaker 2: on something well, I mean, because I feel like that's
- 3:02Speaker 2: regular homework.
- 3:03Speaker 4: May come on, guys, you're gonna get me in trouble here.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Y'all are bad mouthing, you know, people who are.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Dishonst asking a question.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I don't know. I mean with homeless people, you typically
- 3:14Speaker 4: will have a lot of times you'll have mental instability
- 3:17Speaker 4: or mental illness that results in people homeless people using
- 3:22Speaker 4: drugs to try to self medica.
- 3:23Speaker 7: OK.
- 3:23Speaker 4: So I can't diagnose him because I'm not a psychologist,
- 3:27Speaker 4: a physician or did I did not stay at a
- 3:30Speaker 4: holiday and express, so I cannot tell you exactly what
- 3:33Speaker 4: the problem was. I just know that he was very
- 3:35Speaker 4: angry and did not want more. That's all that I
- 3:38Speaker 4: could tell you about that.
- 3:39Speaker 2: But of course they still gave more. Right, No, they ran, Okay,
- 3:43Speaker 2: they ran, you know what, second thought, that's probably the
- 3:45Speaker 2: best right got.
- 3:46Speaker 4: That on video It looked like the Blair witch man.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I mean, it was crazy running with the phone. It
- 3:50Speaker 4: was absolutely nuts. And then the other crazy thing that
- 3:53Speaker 4: happened was so they they did not make day two
- 3:56Speaker 4: of the competition, so late Friday evening and we were
- 3:59Speaker 4: staying a few miles away at a different hotel that
- 4:02Speaker 4: was next to the convention center. So my wife goes
- 4:05Speaker 4: at about eleven o'clock in the evening. We'd been sitting
- 4:07Speaker 4: in the hotel bar for a minute. She said, we
- 4:09Speaker 4: have to go take your daughter some stuff. And it
- 4:12Speaker 4: was like, take her some stuff. It's eleven o'clock. She's
- 4:14Speaker 4: at a different hotel, but she needed some stuff. So
- 4:18Speaker 4: the only place that you could get stuff is that
- 4:21Speaker 4: was opened with seven eleven. So I pull into the
- 4:23Speaker 4: seven eleven, get in the parking spot, and even before
- 4:26Speaker 4: I get in the parking spot, I can tell that
- 4:28Speaker 4: there are people in the vicinity, in the very near
- 4:31Speaker 4: vicinity that are having a good time. In the willy way.
- 4:35Speaker 4: The devil's lettice was abundant to the smell there.
- 4:38Speaker 2: So.
- 4:40Speaker 4: That was going on. And then in the car next
- 4:42Speaker 4: to me where two it looked like the windows were
- 4:44Speaker 4: really tinted. It looked like two young females. Each of
- 4:47Speaker 4: them had a bottle of a coke shaped bottle in
- 4:49Speaker 4: one hand and a pint shaped bottle in another hand,
- 4:53Speaker 4: and you know, take a pull off one, take a
- 4:55Speaker 4: pull off the other. I'm like, okay, this is going on.
- 4:57Speaker 4: The Craziest thing about it, though, was blaring at at
- 5:00Speaker 4: top volume from the speakers there at the seven to
- 5:03Speaker 4: eleven was opera music.
- 5:06Speaker 8: Opera music, I mean, not the direction I was expecting
- 5:09Speaker 8: to go Maria's. And I don't know, Riley, was it
- 5:11Speaker 8: you that pointed out that you thought it was probably
- 5:13Speaker 8: to keep people from hanging out there, And I thought
- 5:16Speaker 8: that was brilliant.
- 5:17Speaker 4: But I was like, hey, this is different. But I
- 5:19Speaker 4: like all kinds of music, so why not? So that
- 5:22Speaker 4: was my week last week. What about you guys?
- 5:25Speaker 2: I don't know that I can top that. Well, yeah, yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 2: I mean I'm spending my days here.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Yeah, so but okay, let's look ahead to the future.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Where are you spending the next couple of days?
- 5:37Speaker 2: That is a great question. And yeah, in bed, I
- 5:42Speaker 2: don't know if I'm going to be hunkered down or not.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Because it wasn't there a plan that you guys were
- 5:46Speaker 4: going to like camp out up here and have a
- 5:48Speaker 4: campfire and sing Kumba.
- 5:50Speaker 2: No, no, there was a plan. It was not to uh,
- 5:52Speaker 2: it was not to be here. The plan was actually
- 5:54Speaker 2: to go to Houston, and it was going to be
- 5:56Speaker 2: Louie and I were supposed to go to Houston tomorrow
- 5:58Speaker 2: to have lunch with a really good friend, and she
- 6:00Speaker 2: used to work here, actually she works down there in Houston.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Now we were gonna go have barbecue. Was going to
- 6:05Speaker 2: be a great day, and then of course mother nature
- 6:08Speaker 2: stepped in, so we have had to push that back.
- 6:11Speaker 2: So now my day will consist of I'm gonna be
- 6:15Speaker 2: Live on Candy tomorrow because we have a duty here
- 6:17Speaker 2: to keep people informed and I'm happy the public happy
- 6:20Speaker 2: to do that. And thankfully, in the year twenty twenty six,
- 6:23Speaker 2: I have the capability to do that from my apartment,
- 6:25Speaker 2: so I don't actually have to drive up here to
- 6:28Speaker 2: do it.
- 6:28Speaker 4: You kids, we used to have to go to the
- 6:30Speaker 4: radio station uphill both ways in the snow, barefoot.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Yeah, well, twenty miles.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I am very glad that I do not have to
- 6:38Speaker 2: do that. So I will be doing that tomorrow. We'll
- 6:41Speaker 2: be watching some basketball games. There's a lot of college
- 6:44Speaker 2: games that have been moved up because of this, including
- 6:46Speaker 2: A and M's game tomorrow against South Carolina, which is
- 6:49Speaker 2: at New Now. So I will be doing all of
- 6:51Speaker 2: those things, and then when that's over, I will just
- 6:53Speaker 2: hunk her down in my apartment until all of this
- 6:55Speaker 2: is done.
- 6:56Speaker 4: However long that You've got all the supplies, are you?
- 6:58Speaker 9: Now?
- 6:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to the store and hope that like
- 7:02Speaker 2: scraps or whatever is left, because from what I have heard,
- 7:04Speaker 2: it is gone.
- 7:05Speaker 4: I will carry a sharpened stick or a broken bottle
- 7:08Speaker 4: or something with you because you're going to get into.
- 7:10Speaker 2: It fighting over the last love.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yeah, so, I mean we all know. You guys can figure.
- 7:15Speaker 4: My supplies are laid in, right, I mean, I'm good
- 7:17Speaker 4: to go. Plan on making some gumbo and drinking some
- 7:20Speaker 4: bourbon tomorrow and watching the chaos from out of the
- 7:22Speaker 4: countryside where nobody is around. Riley, What about you? What
- 7:26Speaker 4: is what is your weekend of frozen festivities look like?
- 7:28Speaker 10: Well, tomorrow, I'm getting up early and I'm going to
- 7:30Speaker 10: go to the track meet all day and kind of
- 7:32Speaker 10: cover it, and then after that my game plan is
- 7:35Speaker 10: to go home, hunker down, read a book, and do nothing.
- 7:40Speaker 4: By the fireplace sound. Do you have an actual fireplace
- 7:42Speaker 4: or is it one of those gas fed ones.
- 7:45Speaker 10: I think it's an actual one. I've never used before,
- 7:47Speaker 10: so it's going to be an experience.
- 7:48Speaker 2: At least it's a fireplace.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Do you have to put wood in it? Or is
- 7:51Speaker 4: there already stuff in there. Do you have wood? Yes, okay,
- 7:55Speaker 4: just checking.
- 7:56Speaker 5: I ain't got that good stuff at Trug's play.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Okay, So you have stuff that'll light easily. Because I
- 8:01Speaker 2: try to light a fireplace, I'm like sitting there trying
- 8:03Speaker 2: to I can't get this to go. I'd be dead
- 8:05Speaker 2: meat if I had to start a fire in the woods.
- 8:07Speaker 10: Well, when I lived in Nacadoes, we had friends and
- 8:09Speaker 10: we were all at one house together. The track team
- 8:11Speaker 10: was and they were just like pulling limbs off the
- 8:14Speaker 10: trees from outside, and I was like, this isn't gonna
- 8:16Speaker 10: work out.
- 8:16Speaker 4: That doesn't that, that doesn't work out.
- 8:18Speaker 5: The smell was terrible. So I was like, uh uh,
- 8:20Speaker 5: I'm going somewhere to go get stuff.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Yeah, okay. And for folks who don't know, this is Riley.
- 8:24Speaker 4: She is the sportsperson on the wta W morning show,
- 8:28Speaker 4: The Info Maniacs with Me and Scott in the mornings,
- 8:31Speaker 4: and she is a former collegiate athlete, a pull vaulter
- 8:34Speaker 4: at Texas A and M. So, just so y'all know.
- 8:36Speaker 4: And then we've got Caleb over here as well, who
- 8:39Speaker 4: is training Trey over there, So we've.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Got five people in here.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I had to use my whole hand to count. Yeah,
- 8:46Speaker 4: that was crazy.
- 8:47Speaker 6: I think this is the max that we're legally allowed
- 8:48Speaker 6: to have in the studio.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Oh, fire marshals don't matter. Sorry say that out loud.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Was just kidding, y'all.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I'm just joking. They carry guns allegedly, allegedly. All right,
- 8:58Speaker 4: we got good stuff coming up, of course, Kirk here
- 9:00Speaker 4: in just a minute, we will talk entertainment news. We've
- 9:03Speaker 4: got NC doublea football a little bit to talk about.
- 9:07Speaker 4: We'll talk in C doublea basketball. We will hear from
- 9:09Speaker 4: Bucky McMillan, we will talk NFL, and of course America's
- 9:13Speaker 4: favorite radio segment, comps at Odds to close out the
- 9:16Speaker 4: show a little bit later on. So that's what we've
- 9:19Speaker 4: got going.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And remember through all of that, the text line is
- 9:21Speaker 2: open as well. It is thank you, love to forget
- 9:24Speaker 2: to plug that.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you. And what is that number again? Six

- 10:47Speaker 13: eleven fifty AM and ninety three points Sevin FM.
- 10:51Speaker 7: Welcome to the College Football Report with Kirk Bowles of
- 10:54Speaker 7: the Houston Chronicle and your host Chip Howard. The College
- 10:58Speaker 7: Football Report is broad you buy Brass's Homecare and Tegler Chevrolet.
- 11:06Speaker 14: All right, we were joined on the phone line by
- 11:08Speaker 14: Kirk Bowles of the Houston Chronicle. It's brought to you
- 11:11Speaker 14: by Bress Valley Home Care and Tegler's Chevrolet. A trip
- 11:16Speaker 14: to Miami every January wouldn't be bad, right.
- 11:21Speaker 15: It's not the worst thing though. I would In fact,
- 11:24Speaker 15: i'd probably recommend it. So yeah, they put us up
- 11:27Speaker 15: at the Marriott, Marquee and wind and Dinas and then
- 11:33Speaker 15: the top of all all Dusty. They gave us one
- 11:35Speaker 15: of the best championship games ever. That wasn't a bad
- 11:38Speaker 15: way to finish it.
- 11:39Speaker 14: I can't remember a better one, because that one was
- 11:42Speaker 14: for not having a rooting interest for either team. That
- 11:45Speaker 14: one was exciting to the very end. You didn't know
- 11:50Speaker 14: who was going to win. It was great and we
- 11:53Speaker 14: haven't had a lot of that in the playoffs.
- 11:55Speaker 15: To be honest, it doesn't seem like it. You know,
- 11:59Speaker 15: the NFL has had this shure it's been the best
- 12:01Speaker 15: NFL postseason ever. But you're right, we've seen some our
- 12:05Speaker 15: shares of blowouts, you know, just as TCU. But you know,
- 12:12Speaker 15: my standard has always been kind of the Texas USC
- 12:15Speaker 15: Rose Bowl Game because you know, as one verse two,
- 12:18Speaker 15: both scoring fifty points a game and star power all
- 12:22Speaker 15: over the field, and the setting was a Rose Bowl,
- 12:24Speaker 15: And to me, this one was just as riveting. And
- 12:28Speaker 15: then you remember the Alabama Clemson a game as thirty
- 12:34Speaker 15: five thirty something like that where Alabama all on side
- 12:37Speaker 15: kick and but yeah, this is going to be memorable.
- 12:41Speaker 15: And I just found it totally refreshing. And I don't
- 12:46Speaker 15: know how it looked on TV, Dusty, but we were
- 12:49Speaker 15: guessing in the press box that it was probably maybe
- 12:53Speaker 15: seventy thirty Indiana sense did it look like that?
- 12:56Speaker 4: It?
- 12:57Speaker 14: Well, I was thinking more sixty forty, But if you
- 12:59Speaker 14: told me thirty, I wouldn't be shocked. It was definitely
- 13:02Speaker 14: more red in there than orange.
- 13:06Speaker 15: Right, But the Miami fans, to their credit, made a
- 13:08Speaker 15: lot of noise. Like you said, it was a back
- 13:11Speaker 15: and forth kind of game, and you know, it wasn't
- 13:13Speaker 15: decided till the last second. So yeah, this was just
- 13:19Speaker 15: it was just been a spellbinding season by Indian I mean,
- 13:23Speaker 15: just the fact that we're sitting here in twenty twenty
- 13:26Speaker 15: sixth talking about Indiana winning the national championship. It's in
- 13:30Speaker 15: a way it's tough to get your brain around.
- 13:32Speaker 14: Isn't it as much fun as it was?
- 13:34Speaker 16: Though?
- 13:35Speaker 14: Don't we need to move this up about two weeks?
- 13:39Speaker 15: Yeah, And there's been a lot of discussion about that,
- 13:42Speaker 15: and unfortunately they're moving in the other direction, Dusty, because
- 13:46Speaker 15: it's going to be January twenty fifth in Vegas next year.
- 13:49Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:50Speaker 15: If anything, it looks like we're creeping toward February, you know,
- 13:54Speaker 15: more than moving it up. But you know, and that
- 13:57Speaker 15: speaks to the playoff pension, which the old deadline is Friday,
- 14:02Speaker 15: and you know, that's like they're going to be able to.
- 14:05Speaker 14: Agree on the deadline, is right? I mean, is it
- 14:09Speaker 14: a hard deadline or is it not? Who knows?
- 14:12Speaker 15: I think this is because I remember they extended it
- 14:15Speaker 15: from December one, ESPN did, and everything I've heard and
- 14:20Speaker 15: everybody I talked to thinks it is a hard deadline today.
- 14:25Speaker 14: And so it's just.
- 14:28Speaker 15: They can't agree to agree, you know, which means it
- 14:31Speaker 15: will default the twelve team field again next year in
- 14:35Speaker 15: all likelihood, And I'm fine with that, I do feel.
- 14:39Speaker 15: But I thought it worked pretty good this year. And
- 14:43Speaker 15: we've only had one year of twelve teams, so it's
- 14:46Speaker 15: a very small sample size, if you will. And you know,
- 14:51Speaker 15: the SEC's going to nine games next year in the league,
- 14:55Speaker 15: and the SEC.
- 14:56Speaker 14: Is going to regret that. I think the SEC is
- 14:59Speaker 14: going to regret going to nine games.
- 15:01Speaker 15: They might, but just might.
- 15:04Speaker 14: Yeah, But the truth is, twelve teams is fine. Get
- 15:07Speaker 14: the right twelve teams, and and and by the ACC
- 15:13Speaker 14: fixing there and the Big twelve fixing their tiebreaker rules,
- 15:18Speaker 14: I don't know if they would have had the next
- 15:23Speaker 14: year's tiebreakers rules this year, both Notre Dame and Miami
- 15:26Speaker 14: get in, you get one group of five, and you know,
- 15:31Speaker 14: a Texas and Vanderbilt still would have been upset. But
- 15:34Speaker 14: the truth is we probably would have had the best
- 15:37Speaker 14: eleven teams plus one, and the plus one we always
- 15:40Speaker 14: knew we were going to have to get. The fact
- 15:42Speaker 14: is we the fact is we didn't really know. I
- 15:46Speaker 14: mean I thought Miami or Notre Dame was every bit
- 15:49Speaker 14: the contender that Miami was, and so so you know,
- 15:54Speaker 14: maybe there was one team that was both deserving and
- 15:58Speaker 14: could be a contender.
- 16:02Speaker 15: I just think I just think their process is flawed,
- 16:07Speaker 15: and Dessie by mean that. I know on the Sunday reveal,
- 16:11Speaker 15: you know, I wrote the Houston Chronicle that, well, they
- 16:14Speaker 15: got it right. They went about it all wrong because
- 16:18Speaker 15: Miami was behind Notre Dame for five weeks, if you will,
- 16:23Speaker 15: and then they kind of came to their senses and thought, oh, well,
- 16:26Speaker 15: it's going to look bad if we put Notre Dame
- 16:29Speaker 15: ahead of the team that beat them, and they finally.
- 16:31Speaker 16: Got it right.
- 16:32Speaker 15: I think people just have an inherent distrust of committees,
- 16:36Speaker 15: you know. I think that's a big part of it.
- 16:38Speaker 15: Everybody thinks everybody's biased, and probably everybody is to a
- 16:42Speaker 15: certain degree. But I just don't know how they had,
- 16:46Speaker 15: you know, and the fact that they were hiding behind
- 16:49Speaker 15: well it was Notre Dame, there was somebody in between,
- 16:52Speaker 15: and then it was Miami that explained nothing to me.
- 16:56Speaker 15: It just seemed totally illogical.
- 16:58Speaker 14: And the fact is, I will still say that if
- 17:01Speaker 14: Duke doesn't win the ACC Miami doesn't get in. They
- 17:06Speaker 14: only decided to put Miami in and compare them to
- 17:09Speaker 14: Notre Dame had to head because they had to, and
- 17:12Speaker 14: they weren't going to leave out an entire conference.
- 17:15Speaker 15: I mean, they were kind of forced into it. You're right,
- 17:18Speaker 15: solutely right.
- 17:19Speaker 14: They didn't do it for the right reasons. They didn't
- 17:21Speaker 14: do it because because Miami won on the field. They
- 17:24Speaker 14: did it because the ACC was going to get left out,
- 17:27Speaker 14: and it was leave out an independent or leave out
- 17:30Speaker 14: an entire conference, and they weren't going to leave out
- 17:32Speaker 14: a conference.
- 17:33Speaker 15: And you know, all hell was going to break loose
- 17:35Speaker 15: if they left out a power for conference. And I
- 17:38Speaker 15: don't know how you feel. There's there's some saying let's
- 17:40Speaker 15: don't see them at all. Let's just I mean, not
- 17:43Speaker 15: let's see them, but let's just give it to twelve
- 17:46Speaker 15: at larges or sixteen at larges and don't put anything
- 17:50Speaker 15: into the conference championships. And if that happens, you know,
- 17:55Speaker 15: you better get rid of the conference championship games because
- 17:58Speaker 15: you know, like what it means even more even less
- 18:01Speaker 15: if they don't value with an automatic bid. So but yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 15: I back to your original question. You know, I think
- 18:09Speaker 15: they could move it up by getting rid of the
- 18:11Speaker 15: conference title games, they could move it up to the
- 18:15Speaker 15: week zero. Have everybody playing, you know, that first week
- 18:18Speaker 15: in August if you have to, and then uh, and
- 18:22Speaker 15: I'd like to see more home campus games.
- 18:25Speaker 14: I would too, because it was spectacular.
- 18:27Speaker 15: That's important.
- 18:29Speaker 14: The home campus games have been spectacular. But to me,
- 18:32Speaker 14: it was forty days from A and M Miami to Miami, Indiana.
- 18:38Speaker 15: That's too long.
- 18:39Speaker 14: And I think you could you could play that same
- 18:41Speaker 14: number of games in twenty five days, six.
- 18:46Speaker 15: Days exactly, you know, And I would I would even
- 18:49Speaker 15: adventure to say if if they went to sixteen, that's
- 18:53Speaker 15: the I think I wouldn't give anybody a buy. I
- 18:57Speaker 15: have everybody play because by the two precious are they
- 19:00Speaker 15: cost you momentum, you know, by virtue of so many
- 19:03Speaker 15: first round games, higher seed losing. So I would play
- 19:07Speaker 15: the first two rounds on home campuses. And I think
- 19:11Speaker 15: that would help with with fans and season ticket holders,
- 19:14Speaker 15: because you know, these expenses are becoming prohibited. And you know,
- 19:19Speaker 15: when the average price to get in was like forty
- 19:21Speaker 15: three hundred dollars on game day in Miami, you know
- 19:24Speaker 15: that's just absurd.
- 19:25Speaker 14: Well that was absurd. But on the other end. Yeah,
- 19:30Speaker 14: people watch the Cotton Bowl. It was a great game.
- 19:33Speaker 14: I think the get in cost was about forty bucks. Yeah, right,
- 19:37Speaker 14: so that you couldn't give away cotton ball tickets.
- 19:41Speaker 15: So what does that tell you? Does that tell you
- 19:44Speaker 15: there's no interest or does that tell you they've got
- 19:47Speaker 15: money fatigue? Yeah, and they got to save some money
- 19:50Speaker 15: for rent and food, baby.
- 19:52Speaker 14: And you can't go to all of them. So if
- 19:54Speaker 14: you put that on campus, there's probably enough people in
- 19:58Speaker 14: the area that will go ahead and pay for the
- 20:00Speaker 14: ticket and get to the game. So yeah, I think
- 20:04Speaker 14: that absolutely needs to happen. And they just need to
- 20:07Speaker 14: figure out how to get the sponsorship that these Bowl
- 20:11Speaker 14: games would be missing out on to associate. You know,
- 20:16Speaker 14: they call it the Cotton Bowl and don't play it
- 20:18Speaker 14: in Dallas. You know, I don't know if that works,
- 20:20Speaker 14: but you know, something along those lines, because we all
- 20:24Speaker 14: know whatever makes sense, it's about the money that these
- 20:27Speaker 14: sponsors bring to the table to the TV network, So
- 20:31Speaker 14: you know, that's how it really makes a difference. All Right,
- 20:34Speaker 14: We're going to continue with Kirk Bowls in just a moment.

- 21:40Speaker 16: at Teglar chival A.
- 21:41Speaker 14: Once again, we're joined on the phone line by Kirk
- 21:43Speaker 14: Bowles of the Houston Chronicle, Switching gears to basketball. A
- 21:49Speaker 14: and M dominates the bottom of the conference team in
- 21:52Speaker 14: Mississippi State, Texas goes on the road, has a great game,
- 21:55Speaker 14: but falls short of Kentucky. Kind of a roller coaster
- 21:59Speaker 14: ride for Texas basketball right now, beating Alabama and Vanderbilt,
- 22:04Speaker 14: but then dropping two in a row again, and kind
- 22:07Speaker 14: of are you back where you started in that? Which
- 22:10Speaker 14: one was the anomaly?
- 22:13Speaker 15: That's a good question. I'd putty venture to say the
- 22:16Speaker 15: wins over Alabama and Vanderbilt seem to be the exception
- 22:20Speaker 15: to the rules, especially when you've lost two home games
- 22:24Speaker 15: already to Mississippi State and to A and M.
- 22:30Speaker 14: Yeah, this is a.
- 22:31Speaker 15: Hard team to figure out. That's the I mean, I
- 22:34Speaker 15: don't know if you heard Sean Miller's monologue after the
- 22:39Speaker 15: lost to Kentucky. He said, you know, we've got a
- 22:42Speaker 15: virus right now. Our team can will file the living
- 22:45Speaker 15: bleep out of you, and it said it doesn't matter
- 22:47Speaker 15: how it happens, but we're going to fail you and
- 22:50Speaker 15: put you on the free throw line. And his point
- 22:53Speaker 15: was well made. It's been a fouling team all year long,
- 22:57Speaker 15: Kentucky makes thirty thirty I free throws, and that's a
- 23:03Speaker 15: hard shat to beat, especially if you're on the road,
- 23:06Speaker 15: and it's just not good enough defensively, you know, to
- 23:10Speaker 15: overcome some of their lapses on offense. You know, dayland
- 23:16Speaker 15: Swayin is to me, he had an all conference kind
- 23:18Speaker 15: of year and he's carried them, he said, you know,
- 23:21Speaker 15: four twenty plus games, but you don't know if you
- 23:24Speaker 15: can count on Jordan Pope or if you can count
- 23:26Speaker 15: on Tremont Mark. And so it's a very flawed team,
- 23:31Speaker 15: if you will. And to me, it's very, very unlike
- 23:35Speaker 15: the aggie team that Bucky McMillan is putting on the court.
- 23:39Speaker 15: I watched the Mississippi State game after the Texas Kentucky game,
- 23:44Speaker 15: and I'm continually impressed with a job you know that
- 23:48Speaker 15: the first year coaches do today. It m I think
- 23:50Speaker 15: he's a slam dunk SEC Coach of the Year at
- 23:53Speaker 15: this point, being five and one. But what's so impressive
- 23:58Speaker 15: to me Dusty is how cohesive his team is and
- 24:02Speaker 15: how well they played together. And maybe it worked to
- 24:06Speaker 15: their advantage that he inherited a whole new team an
- 24:09Speaker 15: empty cupboard if you will, and had what eleven eleven kids?
- 24:13Speaker 15: That'll a transfer. But boy did they play well together.
- 24:16Speaker 15: And I guess that Texas just kind of been the
- 24:19Speaker 15: antithesis of that.
- 24:20Speaker 14: And honestly, they have to. I mean, there's no other
- 24:24Speaker 14: way for them to win because they're not the most
- 24:26Speaker 14: talented team in the SEC.
- 24:29Speaker 15: No, they don't have that Josh Hubbard is going to
- 24:31Speaker 15: go off for thirty like he did against Texas. I
- 24:33Speaker 15: mean Epsen Howard, you know, went off for sixty five
- 24:37Speaker 15: points against Texas when they beat him here, and then
- 24:42Speaker 15: what they have like twenty three against Aggie's, so it
- 24:45Speaker 15: showed it can be done quieting them. So but yeah,
- 24:49Speaker 15: I just think, you know, Griffin's terrific player. Ag Oh
- 24:53Speaker 15: my god, is he ever a force? What he's fored
- 24:55Speaker 15: like twenty three and twenty seven minutes right, you know
- 24:58Speaker 15: on Wednesday night.
- 24:59Speaker 14: So it's just just another double double, that's what he is.
- 25:02Speaker 14: He's a double double machine.
- 25:05Speaker 15: He really is. It hits all his free throws, never misses,
- 25:08Speaker 15: and I think wouldn't they missed one free throw out
- 25:11Speaker 15: of twenty four.
- 25:12Speaker 14: Twenty three out of twenty four last night, That's correct.
- 25:15Speaker 15: It's just bogg was your mind. So I just tipped
- 25:18Speaker 15: my hat to Bucky McMillan. I think that was an
- 25:21Speaker 15: inspired hire by Trevor albertson A and M. And I'm
- 25:26Speaker 15: just not going to doubt what A and M is
- 25:27Speaker 15: going to do. I really not. I love the way
- 25:30Speaker 15: they're playing, and I love their offense. You know, I
- 25:33Speaker 15: listened to the post game of Bucky after they beat
- 25:36Speaker 15: A and M. He said, we're kind of like the
- 25:37Speaker 15: running the Wish frol and we have a lot of options.
- 25:40Speaker 15: We don't have scripted set plays, but it seems so connected.
- 25:45Speaker 15: They passed the ball and share the.
- 25:46Speaker 14: Ball, you know, so well.
- 25:48Speaker 15: I'm just thoroughly impressed with the way the Aggas are playing.
- 25:52Speaker 14: When you look at the SEC as a whole. Last year,
- 25:55Speaker 14: we hey, they knew we're just going to get in
- 25:58Speaker 14: as many SEC teams into the two tournament as humanly
- 26:01Speaker 14: possible because the SEC was so dominant. When I look
- 26:05Speaker 14: at it, this year, the SEC doesn't have a top
- 26:08Speaker 14: end team, right. They do have depth. I do believe
- 26:13Speaker 14: that the bottom of the SEC is still pretty good
- 26:16Speaker 14: at basketball. But I agree, but I don't know how
- 26:19Speaker 14: deep they're going to get to go in the tournament.
- 26:21Speaker 14: Because of it. Whether that's nine teams ten teams, I
- 26:26Speaker 14: don't think it's going to be eight, but it's certainly
- 26:28Speaker 14: not going to be anywhere near the thirteen They thirteen
- 26:32Speaker 14: is right from last year.
- 26:33Speaker 15: Right fourteen? Yeah, okay, I do know right now they've
- 26:38Speaker 15: taken it about ten teams getting in, but that includes Texas,
- 26:41Speaker 15: which was the last team in according to ESPN bracketology,
- 26:46Speaker 15: and they were even seated one spot ahead of Texas
- 26:50Speaker 15: A and M, which I just flabbergasted when I see that,
- 26:54Speaker 15: and I know A and M didn't play a strong
- 26:57Speaker 15: non commerce schedule. I get that. This is one of
- 27:01Speaker 15: my big theories I'm always telling Chip about, is that
- 27:05Speaker 15: trust your eyeballs.
- 27:07Speaker 4: You know.
- 27:07Speaker 15: Okay, A and M didn't play Yukon and Duke like
- 27:10Speaker 15: Texas did. But Texas was competitive in those games and loss.
- 27:15Speaker 15: So but when you look at the court and see
- 27:17Speaker 15: how good A and M did, is that that should
- 27:20Speaker 15: take everything. I mean, right now, there is the nine seed,
- 27:24Speaker 15: you know, which is a terrible place to be, as
- 27:26Speaker 15: you know, because you don't want to play the number
- 27:28Speaker 15: one in the second game. But you know, I just
- 27:31Speaker 15: really like them. But you're right, I mean, right now,
- 27:35Speaker 15: ten teams are in. I don't know if Texas can
- 27:37Speaker 15: hold on to try to get in, maybe get to Dayton.
- 27:40Speaker 15: But you know, some of the teams that are better,
- 27:43Speaker 15: like Georgia, you know, a scoring machine, A and M's
- 27:47Speaker 15: a different kind of team than Buzz Williams had, but
- 27:50Speaker 15: you know, they're just really improved. Arkansas has improved, but
- 27:55Speaker 15: like you say, Alabama is a shadow of itself.
- 27:58Speaker 14: Kentucky's more NBA players in.
- 28:02Speaker 15: Yeah, Bruce Pearl's gone at Oliver, so you know, they're
- 28:05Speaker 15: like twelve and seven something like that. Chris Beer's old
- 28:08Speaker 15: Miss team is down. Vanderbilt was number ten. They were
- 28:11Speaker 15: the highest ranked team. They've lost with three in a
- 28:14Speaker 15: row Tennessee. I mean, it's it's not close to how
- 28:18Speaker 15: good the Big twelve is, but I think on reputation
- 28:21Speaker 15: they'll probably get you know, nine teams or maybe ten
- 28:25Speaker 15: teams in, but.
- 28:26Speaker 14: Yeah, I feel like it's going to be nine because
- 28:27Speaker 14: I think the Big ten is top heavy there. They're
- 28:31Speaker 14: really good. The Big twelve is really good up and down,
- 28:34Speaker 14: and I think the ACC is making a comeback this year.
- 28:37Speaker 14: So you know, for those teams to get bids, they're
- 28:40Speaker 14: gonna have to come from somewhere, and I feel like
- 28:42Speaker 14: it's coming right now. A and M and Texas are
- 28:46Speaker 14: sitting forty two and forty three in the net rating,
- 28:49Speaker 14: which is pretty close to that cut line. You know,
- 28:53Speaker 14: as well as A and M's played and sitting a
- 28:55Speaker 14: top the sec standings today, they're still sitting near the
- 28:59Speaker 14: cut line. They have to do something, and frankly, they
- 29:02Speaker 14: need to play this weekend through this weather. They need
- 29:05Speaker 14: South Carolina to make it to town and show up
- 29:07Speaker 14: at rit Arena, And uh, I assume it's not going
- 29:11Speaker 14: to be quite as bad down in Austin getting Georgia
- 29:13Speaker 14: in this weekend.
- 29:15Speaker 15: Yeah, so I know, I mean, you know, Texas need
- 29:18Speaker 15: to find out a way to win at home. That's
- 29:20Speaker 15: the thing, because you know, they actually played better on
- 29:22Speaker 15: the road than they are at home. But uh, you know,
- 29:26Speaker 15: Florida is not as good as last year.
- 29:28Speaker 14: But you know they're they're they're playing really well right now.
- 29:31Speaker 15: The top of the standings. So but yeah, I don't
- 29:33Speaker 15: know what they if they've talked about the weather and
- 29:37Speaker 15: what they can do to the schedule, you know, where
- 29:39Speaker 15: they just cancel the game? Will they try to make
- 29:42Speaker 15: it up? Have you heard any I have but.
- 29:45Speaker 14: I have not, and I can think back through some
- 29:48Speaker 14: games where A and M went to Arkansas, for example,
- 29:51Speaker 14: during a terrible winter storm up there, and they played
- 29:55Speaker 14: the game. Now, they couldn't fly into Arkansas because the
- 29:57Speaker 14: airport was closed. I think they flew into like Wichita
- 30:01Speaker 14: and bust over or something, Yeah, to Witchita, to a
- 30:06Speaker 14: bus and they said, hey, figure out a way to
- 30:08Speaker 14: get here. We're playing the game. So on an individual basis, it.
- 30:13Speaker 15: Wouldn't hurt by feelings, Dusty. If Georgia Texas plays in
- 30:17Speaker 15: front empty gym and I'm home watching on TV, that
- 30:20Speaker 15: wouldn't be the worst short seague in the world for me.
- 30:22Speaker 15: But uh yeah, it's it's gonna be it's gonna be
- 30:25Speaker 15: a mess this weekend. So it's gonna be interested how
- 30:27Speaker 15: it transpires.
- 30:29Speaker 14: But I think there's a there's a lot to look
- 30:31Speaker 14: forward to. Is this SEC team. The SEC season comes
- 30:35Speaker 14: to the back half. I think it's going to be
- 30:38Speaker 14: an exciting finish fighting for some spots right there at
- 30:41Speaker 14: the end.
- 30:42Speaker 15: I totally agree there's there's a lot of parody in
- 30:45Speaker 15: the league this year, so I think it's gonna be
- 30:48Speaker 15: a battle every night. And even though in some ways
- 30:51Speaker 15: they maybe making a mockery of the league. I thought
- 30:54Speaker 15: miss Say it was one of the better teams, you know,
- 30:56Speaker 15: and now they're what are they two and four in
- 30:58Speaker 15: the league?
- 30:58Speaker 4: Right?
- 30:59Speaker 15: And they're just so dependent on Apps and Josh Hubbard.
- 31:03Speaker 15: You know that if they have a cold night, they're
- 31:05Speaker 15: in trouble because they don't have the front court that
- 31:08Speaker 15: some other teams do. So kind of the same for Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt,
- 31:12Speaker 15: And that's interesting because you know, we all know March
- 31:15Speaker 15: is a guards tournament and teams like Vanderbilt and Mississippi
- 31:20Speaker 15: State have that in spades. So maybe they'll be better
- 31:24Speaker 15: in March than they are during the rest of the
- 31:27Speaker 15: if you can get much of the season right, So
- 31:30Speaker 15: who knows, they'll be interesting.
- 31:32Speaker 14: All right. We've been joined by Kirk Bowles of the
- 31:34Speaker 14: Houston Chronicle, brought to you by Brezes Valley Home Care
- 31:38Speaker 14: and Tegler Chevrolet.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Sefcheck Service Center is open tomorrow the garage area seven
- 31:43Speaker 1: to four the gasoline Island with the Shamrock Gas extended
- 31:48Speaker 1: hours Monday through Saturday. Pat Sevchek and the crew are
- 31:53Speaker 1: making sure that when you come in you're treated like
- 31:58Speaker 1: the valuable custom you are. This isn't a big box store.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Fill them up. This is a place that provides full service.

- 34:38Speaker 2: Yes it is. And given the impending doom, or maybe
- 34:45Speaker 2: complete opposite of that, you don't know what's happening this weekend.
- 34:47Speaker 4: We're on the edge of doom.
- 34:48Speaker 2: I thought that this would be a fitting story to read.
- 34:51Speaker 2: And you may have probably already read this because it
- 34:54Speaker 2: was in our show prep this week. Did you hear
- 34:55Speaker 2: about the Canadian that froze his entire apartment?
- 35:00Speaker 4: This sounds like a joke, but no I did not.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Go Okay, kay, well, then I shall read this story. Yeah,
- 35:04Speaker 2: this happened in Quebec, Quebec, Yeah, Canada, where I believe
- 35:09Speaker 2: the story here was that the guy lived in an
- 35:12Speaker 2: apartment and the renter decided he was going to go
- 35:15Speaker 2: on a vacation and for some reason, he thought it
- 35:18Speaker 2: would be a good idea to completely cut the heat
- 35:20Speaker 2: to his house so he wouldn't have to heat an
- 35:23Speaker 2: empty home while he was gone.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Well, you know, it might make some financial sense to somebody.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Maybe until you take an extra second to think and
- 35:31Speaker 2: you go, well, let's see, I live in Canada. It's
- 35:35Speaker 2: the middle of the winter. What could go wrong?
- 35:38Speaker 4: So what did go wrong?
- 35:39Speaker 2: Well, a lot went wrong. So they were not there.
- 35:42Speaker 2: They didn't want to heat an empty home, as I
- 35:43Speaker 2: was saying, so temperatures outside and then inside got so
- 35:48Speaker 2: frigid that the pipes in the home burst, shooting water
- 35:51Speaker 2: into the apartment. And then that water froze too, So
- 35:55Speaker 2: you had the walls, the ceiling, and the furniture, appliances,
- 35:59Speaker 2: everything all covered in thick ice. They even say it
- 36:03Speaker 2: created abstract quote unquote ice sculptures.
- 36:06Speaker 4: Everywhere and charge admission for that.
- 36:08Speaker 2: The floor was covered by about a foot of ice.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Wow.
- 36:12Speaker 2: So, needless to say, the building owner evicted the tenant
- 36:16Speaker 2: and they're basically going to have to strip the whole
- 36:18Speaker 2: place down to get all of the ice, water and
- 36:20Speaker 2: moisture out. But I think what you just said is
- 36:22Speaker 2: a great idea. They could get them turn this into
- 36:24Speaker 2: like a museum exhibit for a little bit, raise some
- 36:27Speaker 2: money and then use that money to fix the place up.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Get a zamboni and put some hockey matches in there. Yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 4: I'm talking about it.
- 36:33Speaker 2: I think it's a great idea and I don't know
- 36:35Speaker 2: why anybody here in Texas would be crazy enough to
- 36:37Speaker 2: turn their heat off during this, and I hope the
- 36:40Speaker 2: power stays on this time around.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Yeah. Look, you know, because I've got an airbnb and
- 36:45Speaker 4: then I've got the main house the airbnb, I've completely
- 36:48Speaker 4: drained the pipes, but I still turn the heat up
- 36:50Speaker 4: a little bit because you know, if nobody's staying there.
- 36:52Speaker 4: I keep it on about sixty, but I cranked it
- 36:54Speaker 4: up to about seventy through the weekend just to keep
- 36:57Speaker 4: the house, you know, warm. I'm not going about our house,
- 37:01Speaker 4: the main house, as much. I've done what I can.
- 37:03Speaker 4: I've still got to do some pool stuff that, you know,
- 37:06Speaker 4: because it's going to get fairly cold. So I got
- 37:08Speaker 4: to take this fairly.
- 37:09Speaker 2: We don't know, like I've seen it range from like
- 37:11Speaker 2: ten degrees to twenty degrees yeah on Monday morning, and like,
- 37:13Speaker 2: we don't know, to be.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Fair, anything under twenty sucks enough that it doesn't matter. Yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 4: all right, what else you got? Ryan?
- 37:19Speaker 2: This was another statistic that was also in our show
- 37:22Speaker 2: prep this week, and I found it a little bit
- 37:25Speaker 2: difficult to believe it was a wallet Hub survey where
- 37:27Speaker 2: they ranked the best and worst states to drive in. Now,
- 37:31Speaker 2: when I read this initially, I immediately was like, okay, well,
- 37:33Speaker 2: Texas is going to be in the bottom ten of this,
- 37:36Speaker 2: because everybody that I have encountered on the roads here.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Sucks, especially here, Austin.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Here, and I lived in Houston for my entire life
- 37:44Speaker 2: before moving.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Up yours, San Antonio.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Would you believe me if I told you that not
- 37:49Speaker 2: only was Texas not in the bottom ten, they darned
- 37:53Speaker 2: near cracked the top ten on this list.
- 37:55Speaker 4: I'm shocked at Texas.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Came in as the thirteenth best state to drive and
- 38:00Speaker 2: mortified and stupid mad.
- 38:01Speaker 5: Because of our speed limit.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Well there's well, there's that.
- 38:05Speaker 2: The rankings apparently were based on thirty one different factors.
- 38:09Speaker 2: But to name a couple of those, gas and insurance prices, traffic.
- 38:13Speaker 2: I don't see how there's any world where traffic well,
- 38:15Speaker 2: I was rated high here.
- 38:17Speaker 4: If you're in a city, traffic sucks. But we got
- 38:19Speaker 4: a whole lot of country where you can have to try.
- 38:21Speaker 4: You take the whole stage. We have way more country
- 38:23Speaker 4: roads city roads.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Weather, road quality, commute times, accident rates, and then stuff
- 38:29Speaker 2: like car washes and parking lots per capita whatever that.
- 38:33Speaker 4: Means, parking lots per capita. Yeah, okay, I have a lot.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Of that's their wallet hubs, fancy way of wording that.
- 38:41Speaker 4: So back in the day, entertainment people used to diet.
- 38:45Speaker 4: This is before the GLP ones and all the stuff that,
- 38:48Speaker 4: all the fancy diets and so forth. Okay, So have
- 38:51Speaker 4: you guys ever heard of the wine and eggs diet? No,
- 38:55Speaker 4: the wine and eggs diet. This came out in the
- 38:57Speaker 4: nineteen sixties. It was a fad diet that was revived
- 39:01Speaker 4: on social media recently and not so recently. This one
- 39:04Speaker 4: comes up every so often. It involves eggs in a
- 39:07Speaker 4: significant amount of wine daily, often with steaks. Experts worn
- 39:12Speaker 4: that is nutritionally deficient, and it's dangerous due to its
- 39:14Speaker 4: high alcohol and harmful long term effects, lacking essential nutrients
- 39:19Speaker 4: and promoting unhealthy habits. So here's what it is. It
- 39:23Speaker 4: focused heavily on eggs and wine, sometimes with meat. Your
- 39:26Speaker 4: example structure for breakfast one egg plus a glass of wine, Lunch,
- 39:30Speaker 4: two eggs plus a glass of wine, dinner, steak and
- 39:33Speaker 4: the rest of the wine.
- 39:36Speaker 2: And we're talking about a whole bottle of wine here.
- 39:38Speaker 4: Yeah, that was. It's always promoted by Helen Gurley Brown
- 39:42Speaker 4: in the nineteen sixties. Yeah, why it's dangerous. Well, no fiber,
- 39:46Speaker 4: no vitamins. You drink in today white apparently works temporarily,
- 39:52Speaker 4: But I mean it's just because you're not eating anything
- 39:55Speaker 4: the right way. Yeah, it's not medically endorsed. But back
- 39:59Speaker 4: in the this was like in vogue, it was, it
- 40:02Speaker 4: was everywhere, but this was before social media.
- 40:04Speaker 2: They thought smoking was good for you back then too.
- 40:06Speaker 4: To be fair, that is true, that is true. What
- 40:09Speaker 4: else you got entertainment wise?
- 40:11Speaker 2: Oh honestly, let's see. I printed out the five random
- 40:17Speaker 2: Facts for Friday page too, because I sometimes like to
- 40:19Speaker 2: read off of that.
- 40:20Speaker 4: Give us five random facts for Friday. Then we'll get
- 40:22Speaker 4: in the commercial break andhead into NCAA football conversation.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Well, I guess this kind of ties into the driving
- 40:28Speaker 2: thing that we just did, where they said, if you
- 40:31Speaker 2: wonder why traffic is so terrible. As of the end
- 40:33Speaker 2: of last year, there are over two hundred and forty
- 40:35Speaker 2: two million licensed drivers in America, which is up from
- 40:39Speaker 2: two hundred and thirty seven million in twenty twenty three.
- 40:42Speaker 4: That doesn't even take into account your unlicensed drivers.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's a lot of them out there on
- 40:48Speaker 2: the road. I would imagine Alaska is the most northern,
- 40:52Speaker 2: western and eastern state. I don't know how it is
- 40:56Speaker 2: the most eastern. Apparently a few of the islands extend
- 40:59Speaker 2: past the one hundred and eightieth meridian into the eastern hemisphere.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Yeah, so yeah, it's crossing over.
- 41:06Speaker 2: There was a version of Playboy printed in braille starting
- 41:09Speaker 2: in nineteen seventy. I remember it didn't have Okay, I
- 41:15Speaker 2: will not ask any further questions. It didn't have any
- 41:17Speaker 2: photos in it, so you were literally getting it for
- 41:20Speaker 2: the articles exactly.
- 41:21Speaker 4: That's what I've always said, I read it for the articles.
- 41:25Speaker 2: This next one includes a word that I cannot read
- 41:27Speaker 2: or pronounce.
- 41:28Speaker 4: You want me to give it a stamp?
- 41:29Speaker 14: Sure?
- 41:30Speaker 2: Number four?
- 41:30Speaker 4: No four? Read over here? Number four. Let's see here.
- 41:35Speaker 4: The longest palindrome in the English dictionary is tatar rat
- 41:39Speaker 4: tat tatarat tat tatar rats.
- 41:42Speaker 2: That's how you say it.
- 41:43Speaker 4: Well, it's t a t t a r r r
- 41:46Speaker 4: a t t a t. Who's going to deny that
- 41:49Speaker 4: I said it? Right? It is a twelve letter palindrome
- 41:54Speaker 4: from Ulysses by James Joyce. That describes a knock on
- 41:57Speaker 4: the door. So it's just about a sound, so a
- 42:02Speaker 4: tat rat tat.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Okay, Well you learn something new every day. Because I
- 42:05Speaker 2: had no idea what that was your piece of paper?
- 42:08Speaker 4: I have long arms.
- 42:09Speaker 2: I was able to catch it before it hit the table.
- 42:10Speaker 4: At your ankles without bending over.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Let's see what number five. Ray Romano was originally cast
- 42:15Speaker 2: on the ninety Sitcom News Radio as the station's handyman
- 42:19Speaker 2: slash electrician, but he was fired before the pilot when
- 42:22Speaker 2: the producers decided to take the character in a different direction.
- 42:26Speaker 2: An actor named Greg Lee replaced him and was also
- 42:29Speaker 2: fired before Joe Rogan got the part for good.
- 42:32Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Have you ever watched the show? I have not. It's
- 42:34Speaker 4: it's on you can find it on the streaming and
- 42:36Speaker 4: it's a fun watch, okay. It has First of all,
- 42:38Speaker 4: it's got Phil Hartman in it, which he was so
- 42:41Speaker 4: so good.
- 42:42Speaker 20: Uh.
- 42:43Speaker 4: It was a It was a great cast and it
- 42:45Speaker 4: is radio centric, so all of us, you know, have
- 42:47Speaker 4: some some some.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Skin connection area.
- 42:50Speaker 4: Yeah. So sure it's a good one. You should you
- 42:52Speaker 4: should watch it. Told me to watch it.
- 42:55Speaker 2: I definitely have not done it.
- 42:57Speaker 4: I've told Ryan one hundred and fifty shows. Ryan is
- 43:00Speaker 4: a bowler and he's never seen Kingpin. Yeah, he's a
- 43:04Speaker 4: sports guy and he's never seen Major League.
- 43:07Speaker 11: Look.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I don't watch many like movies.
- 43:11Speaker 4: Obviously. All right, Hey, we're coming back with NCAA football conversation.
- 43:15Speaker 4: You keep it right here on the zone.
- 43:17Speaker 21: You have Vanatown people knocking on your door, and there
- 43:19Speaker 21: are circus tents all over the area. It's bad enough

- 43:25Speaker 21: don't need to pop up business pressuring you to do something.
- 43:28Speaker 21: Today's stop by locally owned dent Magic and that Thomas

- 44:24Speaker 14: the zone.
- 44:26Speaker 4: It's eleven ninety three point seven of them. Will Ryan, Riley,
- 44:30Speaker 4: Caleb and Trey working the board. Over here. We've got
- 44:34Speaker 4: the whole crowd in the smallest studio at Brian Broadcasting.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Right where is it, say, I'm pretty sure there's one smaller.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Well, I'm talking about the smallest on air studio. Okay,
- 44:44Speaker 4: right in Brian is an on air studio? Was that?
- 44:48Speaker 12: Yep?
- 44:48Speaker 5: It is an on air studio.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Technically, technically they all are. We can all you know,
- 44:52Speaker 4: switch them around to plug in. But hey, thanks for
- 44:54Speaker 4: poop pooing on my parade. All right, no problem, that's
- 44:58Speaker 4: what we bring you on here for anytime. All right. Hey,
- 45:00Speaker 4: we're talking some NC double A stuff here and we
- 45:03Speaker 4: got lots going on from an NC double a perspective.
- 45:06Speaker 4: Where do you want to start. You want to talk
- 45:07Speaker 4: about Fernando Mendozo.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess we could. I mean, that's the game
- 45:11Speaker 2: from earlier this week. We can hit on that because
- 45:13Speaker 2: there's a couple of reactions to that, a.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Couple reaction to it, and he is declared for the
- 45:18Speaker 4: NFL Draft. Yes, he was expected likely to go number one,
- 45:21Speaker 4: and I don't see why he shouldn't. I mean, I
- 45:23Speaker 4: think he's a mature kid. He has obviously got the arm,
- 45:26Speaker 4: he's obviously got the head. I think he's got the attitude.
- 45:29Speaker 2: And I saw, really, and I think a lot of
- 45:32Speaker 2: people did, during that championship game why he won the Heisman. Yeah,
- 45:36Speaker 2: because I didn't watch much Indiana football, to be completely
- 45:39Speaker 2: transparent up until that game and the playoffs.
- 45:41Speaker 4: To be fair, No, not may people did. Yeah, right,
- 45:44Speaker 4: John mellencamp and and Mark Cuban were the guys that
- 45:48Speaker 4: watched it in Indiana football. None of the rest of us. Hey, Yo,
- 45:51Speaker 4: we had a tertiary sort of thing. It was an
- 45:53Speaker 4: oddity that we looked at. Yeah, an incredible kid man
- 45:56Speaker 4: by all measure.
- 45:57Speaker 7: Zed.
- 45:57Speaker 2: I mean what I was just so impressed by was
- 45:59Speaker 2: how every single time Miami got themselves back in it,
- 46:05Speaker 2: Indiana just pushed them aside. And when I, like I
- 46:07Speaker 2: said to Louis Man, Louis I made the analogy that
- 46:10Speaker 2: they were like the kool Aid man, just running through
- 46:12Speaker 2: the brick wall. Like every single time, every single time
- 46:15Speaker 2: Miami came out, rebuild.
- 46:16Speaker 4: The wall and boom, here comes kool Aid.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Like they were not going to be stopped. That seem
- 46:21Speaker 2: willed themselves to victory. They did, and and Mendoza was
- 46:25Speaker 2: a big part of that. Yeah, prompts to Miami. I mean,
- 46:27Speaker 2: I think they played pretty much at the top of
- 46:29Speaker 2: their ability. They made mistakes, but you get in desperate
- 46:32Speaker 2: situations and you start making mistakes. They played Indiana as
- 46:35Speaker 2: good as anybody in the entire playoff did, and probably
- 46:38Speaker 2: for the entirety of the regular season.
- 46:40Speaker 4: And not not that it needs to be mentioned, but
- 46:42Speaker 4: we played Miami as good as anybody had played them
- 46:45Speaker 4: all year. Yeah before that, so uh well, with minor exception, right,
- 46:49Speaker 4: so uh but I thought it was pretty solid. Riley,
- 46:52Speaker 4: do you have thoughts of you're just sitting there in
- 46:53Speaker 4: your hoodie with your headphones on? Yeah? Thanks, Riley, sounds
- 46:59Speaker 4: like my.
- 47:00Speaker 10: Thoughts, my thought, I don't my thoughts were a lot
- 47:03Speaker 10: like different.
- 47:03Speaker 16: I don't know.
- 47:04Speaker 5: I've followed moreable more closely.
- 47:06Speaker 4: But you did see the National Championship game.
- 47:08Speaker 10: Right, Yes, obviously I knew. I knew Indiana was gonna win,
- 47:12Speaker 10: so you knew it. Anybody that said Miami was going
- 47:15Speaker 10: to beat them, I.
- 47:16Speaker 14: Don't, I don't, I don't.
- 47:17Speaker 4: I mean the spread, Yeah, people picked Miami, but I didn't.
- 47:21Speaker 4: I mean, I was great.
- 47:22Speaker 6: I picked the ESPN did for some reason.
- 47:24Speaker 4: Yeah, well because ESPN, I mean, do they even do
- 47:27Speaker 4: sports anymore?
- 47:28Speaker 6: That's a really good question.
- 47:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna pick Miami to win. And this is
- 47:31Speaker 2: how that affects Lebron's legacy. There, you exactly, That's what
- 47:35Speaker 2: the people need to know. That's what Yeah, that's what
- 47:37Speaker 2: Stephen A. Smith was talking about on Monday.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Probably legit. They weren't even talking about the weather, right,
- 47:42Speaker 4: this was the winter storm Fern and how that affects
- 47:45Speaker 4: Lebron's legacy.
- 47:47Speaker 6: This morning, when I was working techtags, I'm not lying.
- 47:50Speaker 6: I had about twenty minute intervals in between when I
- 47:52Speaker 6: looked at the TV, and every single time Lebron was
- 47:55Speaker 6: on the TV.
- 47:56Speaker 5: Isn't he not? There's some headlines he's not starting something.
- 47:59Speaker 2: But look at the TV right now what they're talking about.
- 48:03Speaker 4: Wow, it's absolutely nuts. I don't The NBA lost me
- 48:08Speaker 4: a long time ago, and and there was a chance
- 48:10Speaker 4: of me kind of creeping back into it a little bit.
- 48:12Speaker 4: I mean, beginning of the season, we had you know,
- 48:14Speaker 4: former Aggie player, we had Alex up there just bombing
- 48:17Speaker 4: for Oklahoma, and I'm like, this is pretty cool. Maybe
- 48:20Speaker 4: I can start. And then people started speaking out again
- 48:22Speaker 4: about topics other than the NBA, and that's why I
- 48:25Speaker 4: got turned off of it.
- 48:26Speaker 2: So yeah, I get into the playoffs a lot now.
- 48:28Speaker 2: I kind of checked out when the Rockets got really
- 48:31Speaker 2: bad for the last few years.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Yeah. To be fair, Riley, who's your basketball team?
- 48:36Speaker 10: I do not watch basketball but for the Spurs because
- 48:39Speaker 10: they're closest to me.
- 48:40Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, it's what's crazy about this. And I
- 48:43Speaker 4: don't have skin in the game, but in this neck
- 48:46Speaker 4: of the woods in particular, if you are a Spurs fan,
- 48:48Speaker 4: you are hated by everybody.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Else because everybody else is either a Rockets or a
- 48:53Speaker 2: Mavericks fan.
- 48:54Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, and they absolutely despise the Spurs. And I
- 48:57Speaker 4: don't know why I hate them all equally.
- 49:00Speaker 2: So okay, well that's that's fair enough. I got you.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Yeah, as you're sitting in here in your flyers jersey,
- 49:08Speaker 4: sweatshirt hoodie thing.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Well, we can go back on the college football thing,
- 49:12Speaker 2: because there was chatter about the playoff today as well,
- 49:15Speaker 2: which is going to stay at twelve teams. They did
- 49:18Speaker 2: tweak the qualification a little bit for it, so the
- 49:21Speaker 2: auto bids now go to each Power four champ, which
- 49:24Speaker 2: before it was just the five highest conference champions regardless.
- 49:28Speaker 2: And that's that's how two group of fives got in,
- 49:31Speaker 2: right is it not? So it's going to be each
- 49:34Speaker 2: Power four champ and then a group of six because
- 49:38Speaker 2: the PAC twelve is now going to be considered part
- 49:40Speaker 2: of that now that it's been the two years. And
- 49:43Speaker 2: then this is the part that I have the biggest
- 49:45Speaker 2: issue with that Notre Dame is guaranteed an at large
- 49:48Speaker 2: bid if it is ranked in the top twelve of
- 49:50Speaker 2: the final poll.
- 49:51Speaker 4: This is absolute stupidity. Yes right, they're calling it the
- 49:54Speaker 4: Notre Dame rule. Guaranteed a spot in the in the
- 49:57Speaker 4: twelve team field as long as they finish in the
- 49:59Speaker 4: top twelve of the final rankings. What happens if you
- 50:02Speaker 4: have somebody who is undefeated but they're not in the
- 50:06Speaker 4: top twelve on one of these other teams, how do
- 50:08Speaker 4: you justify that?
- 50:09Speaker 2: Well, I think there's even a scenario where you could
- 50:12Speaker 2: have a team that is in in the top twelve,
- 50:16Speaker 2: like an at large at number ten or eleven, that
- 50:20Speaker 2: gets left out in favor of Notre Dame.
- 50:23Speaker 5: The Dame schedule this upcoming year super easy.
- 50:26Speaker 2: That's what I was about to get.
- 50:27Speaker 5: Probably going to lose two would be Miami.
- 50:29Speaker 2: So yeah, because I have right here on by you
- 50:32Speaker 2: now and I haven't put up right here on BYU.
- 50:35Speaker 2: They're overhyped, a.
- 50:37Speaker 4: Scrap going on.
- 50:38Speaker 6: Yeah, and you're comparing them to Notre Dame, who's not
- 50:40Speaker 6: over hyped.
- 50:41Speaker 10: Oh I'm not saying Notre Dame is not overhyped. I'm
- 50:43Speaker 10: just saying, if I'm going to pick between those two schools,
- 50:46Speaker 10: I'm going to go Notre Dame.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Counterpoint, b YU has a quarterback named Bear quite.
- 50:55Speaker 6: Hard to be much about BYU.
- 50:57Speaker 4: So okay, well, she she gave up b YU.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Miami and SMU are Notre Dame's three quote unquote toughest games.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Miami I know, at least actually toughest, But those other two,
- 51:08Speaker 2: I'm like whatever. Then you got Navy, Boston College, Syracuse,
- 51:12Speaker 2: North Carolina, Stanford, Perdue, Michigan State, Rice, and Wisconsin.
- 51:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a Notre Dame.
- 51:18Speaker 2: And well, and with this new rule in place, like
- 51:21Speaker 2: why do they have any incentive to schedule anything else
- 51:23Speaker 2: other than that they are Notre Dame? They will They
- 51:26Speaker 2: could be twelve to zero beating up on Ablene Christian
- 51:29Speaker 2: every single game and they would get into the playoffs
- 51:31Speaker 2: because they are Notre Dame.
- 51:32Speaker 4: Yeah, which is ridiculous at this stage of the game, right,
- 51:35Speaker 4: Notre Dame needs to declare a conference uh and and
- 51:38Speaker 4: and get into a conference affiliation.
- 51:41Speaker 2: So they're not going to now and not with this
- 51:44Speaker 2: rule in place. They make Texas Tech schedule look difficult.
- 51:49Speaker 2: And that was the other one that everybody was pointing
- 51:50Speaker 2: out and saying, why should this team get a guaranteed
- 51:52Speaker 2: because Texas Tech schedule is laughable too.
- 51:55Speaker 4: Well, you can only play the people that they put
- 51:57Speaker 4: in front of you, right, at least a conference.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not I'm not blaming the teams. Yes, Caleb,
- 52:02Speaker 2: you're right, I'm not blaming the teams. But I am
- 52:03Speaker 2: blaming the rules, yeah, and the ridiculous And the reason
- 52:06Speaker 2: we haven't expanded this apparently, this playoff thing is because
- 52:10Speaker 2: the SEC commissioner could not get along with a Big
- 52:12Speaker 2: ten commissioner, right, they couldn't come to an agreement. Well
- 52:15Speaker 2: because the Big ten was twenty four right yea.
- 52:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and the long term they want.
- 52:18Speaker 10: If SEC agreed to this, then the AC's counter was
- 52:22Speaker 10: if I mean Big ten's counter was, well, in a
- 52:24Speaker 10: couple of years, then we're moving to a bigger conference
- 52:26Speaker 10: just to keep expanding and expanding, like so they were
- 52:28Speaker 10: trying to get a little loophole through.
- 52:32Speaker 4: I think they were, and and you know they're looking
- 52:34Speaker 4: out for themselves, right, yes, But eventually it's it's gonna
- 52:39Speaker 4: come down to mega conferences. You know, eventually everything's gonna
- 52:45Speaker 4: We're just gonna come down to four big mega conferences.
- 52:48Speaker 2: Well yeah, because there's I mean, the ACC is still
- 52:50Speaker 2: kind of in that pendent. What's going to happen when
- 52:52Speaker 2: that granted rights expires and what twenty thirty one is
- 52:55Speaker 2: right and the fallout that will come with that, because
- 52:57Speaker 2: there will certainly be other teams moving you know that
- 52:59Speaker 2: Clemson and Florida state want out of there.
- 53:01Speaker 4: Yeah, that's been widely known. Yeah, so what we're predicting,
- 53:05Speaker 4: I guess is mass chaos, which is another round of
- 53:08Speaker 4: it fun to watch. What's really been cool in the
- 53:11Speaker 4: midst of all of this mass chaos and including the
- 53:15Speaker 4: transfer portal and everything else, is that here in Texas
- 53:19Speaker 4: A and M Country, we have not really been rocked
- 53:22Speaker 4: by transfer portal stuff. I mean, things are still the
- 53:25Speaker 4: bike Elcho ships smooth man, I mean, it's riding low.
- 53:30Speaker 4: It just just keeps on going. So I'm enjoying that fact.
- 53:33Speaker 4: We don't have off seasons like we used to have
- 53:36Speaker 4: where you're looking at the police report every day and
- 53:38Speaker 4: seeing who Texas A and and police had arrested for jaywalking.
- 53:42Speaker 4: That sort of things seemed to be gone by the wayside,
- 53:45Speaker 4: and I really appreciate that.
- 53:46Speaker 8: Well that was before I moved up here, so I
- 53:48Speaker 8: never missed you missed out how frequently.
- 53:52Speaker 2: By the way, we had a text come in that's
- 53:54Speaker 2: from Matt in College Station that said, is that Will
- 53:56Speaker 2: and Riley did the Info Maniacs take over the show?
- 53:59Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 54:00Speaker 2: Pretty good, Yes, affirmative matts.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:02Speaker 2: So yeah, this is just an expanded Info Maniacs at
- 54:04Speaker 2: this point, Ryan and I have.
- 54:05Speaker 4: Been doing this show for a while now, and then
- 54:08Speaker 4: Riley coming on board. And Riley is new to radio
- 54:11Speaker 4: right due to cracking the mic, and so anytime she
- 54:13Speaker 4: can get on a microphone makes her better. So I
- 54:16Speaker 4: was like, Riley coming to sit in here with this
- 54:18Speaker 4: wild bunch, and then all of a sudden, we've got
- 54:20Speaker 4: Caleb in here because he's training Trey on how to
- 54:23Speaker 4: push the buttons, and so that's why we have the zoo.
- 54:25Speaker 2: And credit to Trey, he's done a good job, done a.
- 54:27Speaker 4: Really good job. And credit to Caleb for catching him.
- 54:29Speaker 4: Well yeah, because I mean look at him. I mean,
- 54:31Speaker 4: this guy, you couldn't figure him to be able to
- 54:33Speaker 4: learn anything.
- 54:34Speaker 6: And then wow wow, he said the same thing about
- 54:39Speaker 6: me when I started.
- 54:40Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, I always always abuse the ones I love. There.
- 54:43Speaker 2: There you go, not physically.
- 54:45Speaker 6: If police reports were in the next hour, they are.
- 54:48Speaker 2: We also got a text from Dusty, who actually just
- 54:50Speaker 2: went out of his way to create a group chat
- 54:52Speaker 2: on our personal phones with me, and you was just
- 54:55Speaker 2: talking about yeah, yeah, come on us. You got to
- 54:58Speaker 2: add Riley into this too. He said ten wants more
- 55:00Speaker 2: than sixteen because that triggers more networks getting rights to
- 55:03Speaker 2: games that does, which, yes it does.
- 55:05Speaker 4: It's all about the money. Follow the money.
- 55:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yees, yeah, that's the way, follow the money.
- 55:09Speaker 4: All right. Hey, we're about to take a break here,
- 55:12Speaker 4: maybe something like.
- 55:13Speaker 2: That, something along the lines of that, and then we, uh,
- 55:15Speaker 2: what do we got a preview coming up?
- 55:17Speaker 4: Coming up in the next hour. We're going to talk
- 55:19Speaker 4: some INTAA basketball, specifically Aggie basketball. We will have some
