- 1:10Speaker 3: how you doing today, my man?
- 1:12Speaker 4: Not too bad?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Still hungover from New Year's Yeah, I had to finish
- 1:16Speaker 2: that Evan Williams eggnog. Oh that's how I celebrated.
- 1:20Speaker 3: So you you finished, you polished off the bottle yourself
- 1:23Speaker 3: had yep.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I put him in champagne glasses, yep. And and then
- 1:29Speaker 2: I had some cheetos.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Okay, that's that's a great combination. That reminds me of
- 1:34Speaker 3: when we were teenagers and every get together we used
- 1:38Speaker 3: to have would have a bag of spicy or Nacho
- 1:41Speaker 3: derinos and a gallon of chocolate milk.
- 1:43Speaker 2: The purity daries, oh yeah, yeah, or with with the chips.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I remember, like when we discovered code red mountain dew.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Oh man, that's just a stomach ache waiting to happen.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And I think our long lost friend Cliff is the
- 1:56Speaker 2: one who first brought in spicy or not jo, I
- 1:59Speaker 2: don't know if I'd had them before, I don't remember.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I feel like it's him or did he. I don't
- 2:03Speaker 2: know how I got code red either because it was
- 2:05Speaker 2: from a friend, and then I got some because I didn't.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I used to suck down some code red though. Yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 3: you did like a vacuum. I could there was You
- 2:15Speaker 3: could have cut me open at any given moment in
- 2:18Speaker 3: the year two thousand and two and I would have
- 2:20Speaker 3: just spilled cod red everywhere.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I just wonder it probably tastes like shit.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I've had it, because it's in modern times they still
- 2:29Speaker 3: make it.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah, well I saw it like at one of the
- 2:32Speaker 2: like dispensers at one of the places, and I'm like, wow.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Get it at seven eleven phone code red and it's
- 2:39Speaker 3: you know, it's like you drink it and you're like, yes,
- 2:42Speaker 3: a teenager would love this.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yes, not a forty year old man, but this. But
- 2:47Speaker 2: if I was young again.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I just want my diet coke.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I just want my coke zero.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, give me some coke zero and I'm good.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I'm Are you at a point where like when you
- 3:00Speaker 2: go to a restaurant or like especially like like a
- 3:03Speaker 2: subway or McDonald's or something, which a lot of them
- 3:06Speaker 2: have that machinery you can choose anything now, but like
- 3:09Speaker 2: I still go and they like there is no zero
- 3:12Speaker 2: sugar anything.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's like diet.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Like they don't like they only have diet coke or
- 3:17Speaker 2: coke or it's only pepsi and diet pepsi. And I
- 3:20Speaker 2: don't like pepsi, but pepsi zero sugar is actually pretty good.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And obviously that's the only thing I get at Regal
- 3:27Speaker 2: now because it's all pepsi products.
- 3:29Speaker 4: But man, yeah, but do you ever.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Find yourself going where it's like and I don't know.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I guess most people don't really care, because I mean people.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Will have But I feel like coke zero is is
- 3:39Speaker 3: more prevalent than at least it used to. Like, I
- 3:41Speaker 3: feel like we've made progress.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's a very vile. Yeah, it's a very
- 3:48Speaker 2: much an option, which now when they don't have it,
- 3:51Speaker 2: I like clutch my pearls.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I'm like, what, Yeah, I know, what do you mean
- 3:55Speaker 3: the times?
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I don't know, you know what I do. I showing
- 4:00Speaker 2: my lab results from my last A one C and
- 4:02Speaker 2: I said, I bet this is why you're.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Putting my life at risk by not having coke zero
- 4:07Speaker 3: on your soda fountain.
- 4:08Speaker 2: And when that waitress says, shouldn't you probably just drink water?
- 4:11Speaker 2: I would say, yeah, you're probably right, live a little,
- 4:15Speaker 2: but I don't come to out back for your expertise.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Man, there's a place I haven't been in ages.
- 4:21Speaker 2: We went sometime last year, really, yeah, because it's close
- 4:25Speaker 2: to the house, and and we forget even though we
- 4:29Speaker 2: go right by it because our grocery store is literally
- 4:32Speaker 2: maybe four places down. Yeah, it's fine. Yeah, it's fine.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That's the only o Charlie's left round too.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that's another place that I want to.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And Lebanon, I get a hankering for it every once
- 4:44Speaker 3: in a while, just a stone cold hankering. Here's the thing,
- 4:49Speaker 3: the potato soup and their chicken fingers.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Okay, because neither of those places have anything that I
- 4:54Speaker 2: crave or that I can't get.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Somewhere else that I like better.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I mean. A place I've been
- 5:01Speaker 2: wanting to go to. It's Party Foul, but my wife
- 5:04Speaker 2: doesn't like it, and my son can't eat anything there.
- 5:06Speaker 3: There's a lot of people that don't like Party Foul,
- 5:08Speaker 3: but they've but I haven't made efforts to change the
- 5:11Speaker 3: menu recently, and well, you know they're still not great.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Is there two left? There's quite a few that are gone.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Yeah. There was a rumor about Party Foul closing down
- 5:22Speaker 3: a couple of springs ago, and I can't remember, but
- 5:26Speaker 3: I know they have closed down. The one in the
- 5:27Speaker 3: Gulch is gone well, and.
- 5:30Speaker 2: The one in Murpher's Bro's gone. Oh that closed to
- 5:32Speaker 2: the one in Cool Springs is gone, damn. So it's
- 5:35Speaker 2: just I think it's just the original and Donaldson.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Wow, So I think that's a surprise. I thought the
- 5:42Speaker 3: Gulch was the original?
- 5:44Speaker 4: Was it is that the original?
- 5:45Speaker 3: I know for a fact that one's closed because I
- 5:47Speaker 3: drive by it every Thursday night for football and other
- 5:50Speaker 3: f words.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I h skipped across the parking lot because that's where
- 5:54Speaker 2: I was going to go before a movie and there
- 5:57Speaker 2: was no tables, there was no seats, and realized and
- 6:01Speaker 2: I'm like, how long has this been gone? And my
- 6:04Speaker 2: wife told me because we I swear we were only
- 6:07Speaker 2: there I don't know how many months ago in the
- 6:08Speaker 2: Murphis barl One because I had a brother in law
- 6:11Speaker 2: that lived up there and they were going to go there.
- 6:13Speaker 2: And she text me, she's like, it's closed.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I'm like, cool.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Did they fall bankruptcy?
- 6:20Speaker 3: Yeah? I don't know. Things have changed.
- 6:22Speaker 4: So now I'm thinking I might not be able to
- 6:24Speaker 4: go to this gunner Goat.
- 6:25Speaker 3: You better go as soon as you possibly can.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I see you.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Yeah, let's stop this podcast, right, I mean, it's not
- 6:32Speaker 3: like the this sound would be. Okay, I won't, I won't.
- 6:36Speaker 4: The man is still a human being.
- 6:37Speaker 3: You're right, You're right. The filmography, Okay, I'll put it
- 6:42Speaker 3: this way diplomatically as I can. We're gonna talk about
- 6:45Speaker 3: Gerard Butler.
- 6:46Speaker 2: That's right.
- 6:47Speaker 3: I feel like this is probably the weakest filmography we'll
- 6:51Speaker 3: have discussed on this show.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Oh that's probably yeah, that's probably true.
- 6:55Speaker 3: And it's it makes me sad because I think he's
- 6:57Speaker 3: done some really cool stuff before.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I think he's a cool guy. I see, it seems
- 7:01Speaker 2: like he's a cool It.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Seems like a really cool guy. Yeah, started off in
- 7:05Speaker 3: like law school, was going to be a lawyer and
- 7:08Speaker 3: then didn't make it because he loved to go out
- 7:11Speaker 3: drinking and partying and oh, yeah, he's scottishudn't he? Yeah,
- 7:16Speaker 3: got fired a week before he was supposed to start
- 7:19Speaker 3: working for a company, and then he just went into
- 7:24Speaker 3: acting and the rest is history.
- 7:25Speaker 4: I mean, that's where you can still drink and party
- 7:27Speaker 4: and stuff and no one cares.
- 7:29Speaker 3: I guess so. But the reason we're talking about Gerard
- 7:32Speaker 3: Butler is that Greenland two is coming out. And that's
- 7:37Speaker 3: not the exact title of the film Greenland two Migration.
- 7:42Speaker 3: The first Greenland came out in twenty twenty. It was
- 7:46Speaker 3: a one of the COVID year, one of those ones
- 7:49Speaker 3: that I saw the trailer for Greenland too, and was like,
- 7:53Speaker 3: I missed Greenland. I don't where did the first one
- 7:56Speaker 3: come from.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I will tell you it is better than you think
- 8:00Speaker 2: it is, and it's it has It's not the movie
- 8:04Speaker 2: you think it is based off the trailers. It is,
- 8:07Speaker 2: but there's a lot more heart and stuff to it
- 8:09Speaker 2: and a lot of actual, like good acting on his part.
- 8:14Speaker 2: So does it need hold on? Does it need a sequel? No?
- 8:19Speaker 3: Well, I was gonna ask what does that mean for
- 8:21Speaker 3: your optimism levels?
- 8:23Speaker 2: I have a feeling we're about to enter really forgettable
- 8:29Speaker 2: Gerard Butler sequel.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yeah, which there are a few of those littered throughout
- 8:34Speaker 3: the years.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, here's the thing when we go through this
- 8:42Speaker 2: the movies, there are movies that really surprise me and
- 8:45Speaker 2: actually how good they are and how good he is
- 8:48Speaker 2: in them. And then there's others that I just don't like.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I don't know what would have caused you to leave
- 8:54Speaker 2: your house and to leave your family to do.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Yeah, So start this conversation the way we start most
- 9:04Speaker 3: of our conversations on this show. What was the first
- 9:06Speaker 3: time that you noticed Gerard Butler? What was your introduction?
- 9:10Speaker 4: Oh, probably three hundred.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It was definitely three hundred for me.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, not that I hadn't seen him and other stuff,
- 9:16Speaker 2: but I wouldn't really know where he was. Matter of fact,
- 9:21Speaker 2: there's a movie he did before three hundred which I liked,
- 9:23Speaker 2: and I'll be honest with you, I still forget to
- 9:25Speaker 2: this day that he's in.
- 9:27Speaker 3: There's a couple of the ones that are listed in
- 9:30Speaker 3: his filmography that I'm like, I know I saw that, yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 3: but I do not remember.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Here's the thing, the one I'm talking about, he is
- 9:37Speaker 2: clearly in. I just the Gerard Butler and the movies
- 9:43Speaker 2: post three hundred. That's not the type of movie. Okay,
- 9:48Speaker 2: I'll let you well, we'll get to it. But yes,
- 9:52Speaker 2: three hundred is when it was like, my God.
- 9:56Speaker 3: He has his let's dig right into it.
- 9:59Speaker 2: If God may a man, because he remember God has
- 10:02Speaker 2: not made man. But if God had made a man,
- 10:06Speaker 2: it would be Butler.
- 10:08Speaker 3: He has a three hundreds very distinct voice. I would say, he.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Has a very very you can't hide.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's you know, Gerard Butler when you see him.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, And I think you don't mention the Gerard Butler.
- 10:25Speaker 3: No, And it's it's really it's quite interesting because.
- 10:29Speaker 4: So let's be careful the way you're talking about.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I know he's going to show up like James Cameron.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Ye here, bust down that door, god forbid, kick a
- 10:42Speaker 2: cat out the window.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I don't know what the type of man he is.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't either. I can. I can do my best,
- 10:48Speaker 3: but it depends on whether or not my tummy hurts.
- 10:51Speaker 2: That day exactly. You have Taco Bill.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Yeah. I I do feel like it's interesting because there
- 10:59Speaker 3: are a lot of actors that have his kind of
- 11:03Speaker 3: filmography that are kind of forgettable and you kind of
- 11:07Speaker 3: know him as like, oh, that's the guy from this,
- 11:10Speaker 3: this and that.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Yeah, but Gerard Butler is has this filmography, but you
- 11:16Speaker 3: know him as Gerard, Like he's very recognizable and distinguishable.
- 11:19Speaker 3: And I think that's probably a testament to his charisma,
- 11:24Speaker 3: first and foremost accent, the accent, Like I think he
- 11:28Speaker 3: stands out in a crowd.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and I think, yeah, I mean you can't
- 11:33Speaker 2: miss him.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Yeah. I I have to pause this recording back here
- 11:42Speaker 3: on the Vick Flicks podcast and Brandon, what do you say?
- 11:45Speaker 3: We just we dig into this filmography.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Let's see nineteen ninety seven, he gets his first acting
- 11:53Speaker 3: credit in a film called Missus Brown, British drama film
- 11:57Speaker 3: starring Judy Ditch, Billy Connolly, Gerard Butler in his film debut,
- 12:03Speaker 3: Wow About That, directed by John Madden.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Hey, I know that one the coach.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yeah, he's also in nineteen ninety seven gets a small
- 12:14Speaker 3: role in Tomorrow and Never Dies, which is uh oh,
- 12:17Speaker 3: James Bond, Pierce Brosnan. I I don't know if I
- 12:22Speaker 3: ever even saw Tomorrow Never Dies.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I did, I didn't see him, but I mean, was
- 12:26Speaker 2: he a bad guy?
- 12:28Speaker 3: I couldn't tell you.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I mean he's foign. I'm sure he's a bad guy
- 12:31Speaker 2: in a Bond movie.
- 12:33Speaker 3: He's in Tail of the Mummy in nineteen ninety eight,
- 12:36Speaker 3: never heard of it? Who is in this? It's Christopher
- 12:41Speaker 3: Lee is the only person that I've heard of.
- 12:43Speaker 4: I know him.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Nineteen ninety nine he's in a film called Fast
- 12:47Speaker 3: Food One More Kiss the Cherry Orchard. And then in
- 12:53Speaker 3: two thousand he is in a film called Dracula two thousand.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Hey, I've seen that.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Which I don't remember him. I don't think I saw
- 13:04Speaker 3: that movie because he plays Count Dracula.
- 13:05Speaker 2: He does Oh okay, Well then that missed just been
- 13:09Speaker 2: a horrible movie. So because that's what that one with
- 13:12Speaker 2: Omar Epps in it, I feel like I see, I
- 13:14Speaker 2: can see the cover and Omar Epps is like at
- 13:17Speaker 2: the front of.
- 13:17Speaker 3: It, Omar Epps, Christopher Plumber, and those are the only
- 13:22Speaker 3: naors that I am.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Christopher Plummer was thrown in that. Yeah, oh man, Yeah.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So he's in a film called Harrison's Flowers. Brendan Gleeson's
- 13:32Speaker 3: in that one.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Hey, now we're talking.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Jewel of the Sahara. That's a short film. And then
- 13:37Speaker 3: two thousand and two he's in Shooters okay and rain
- 13:43Speaker 3: a Fire. I don't remember him.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I don't remember him in that either.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Plays a character named Creedy see the Dragon, I don't think.
- 13:51Speaker 1: So.
- 13:52Speaker 3: He's in Lori Croft, tomb Raider, The Cradle of Life, okay,
- 13:55Speaker 3: I two thousand and three.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I do sort of remember him being in that one.
- 13:58Speaker 3: I don't.
- 13:59Speaker 4: I do remember that.
- 14:03Speaker 3: He is in Timeline in two thousand and five, the
- 14:06Speaker 3: Paul Walker movie, which I don't remember him in that either.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I don't remember him in that, but I don't know
- 14:11Speaker 2: if he was a bad guy or like the person
- 14:13Speaker 2: that he's on the poster.
- 14:14Speaker 3: And he looks different, so I'm assuming.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I want to think he kind of like
- 14:20Speaker 2: I might be wrong. Maybe I feel like he was
- 14:22Speaker 2: like helping her but actually was a bad guy. Or
- 14:24Speaker 2: maybe he really was like her love interests sorta.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I don't know. I could be making all of this up.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Two thousand and four, he's in the Phantom of the Opera.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Okay, that's the movie I was talking about because he's
- 14:38Speaker 2: the Phantom, and I totally forget he's in this musical adaptation.
- 14:43Speaker 4: But he was good in it well, and that, like,
- 14:46Speaker 4: I just forget it was him.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Apparently it was his role in Dracula two thousand that
- 14:51Speaker 3: got him this role. Oh and then he had to
- 14:53Speaker 3: start taking singing lessons with a vocal coach.
- 14:56Speaker 4: You mean he couldn't sing before to.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Learn how to sing to do this film. I've never seen.
- 15:00Speaker 4: It, but it's good and he's good in it.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Just I don't ever associate that with him. And I
- 15:07Speaker 2: guess because of this brand costume. He's not that Gerard Yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 2: muscle bound, you.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Know, not the Gerard Butler were used to correct anything
- 15:18Speaker 3: from this first decade or so.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I know.
- 15:21Speaker 4: The movies. I don't know if any of them are good.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Who else have we done this for where it's like
- 15:26Speaker 3: we were at this point. We're at two thousand and
- 15:28Speaker 3: fourths Phantom of the Opera his first credits in ninety seven.
- 15:32Speaker 3: We're seven years into his filmography, and we're like, yeah,
- 15:35Speaker 3: I know that, I mean, don't remember him in.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I mean tomb Raider. I guess is the one that
- 15:38Speaker 2: I mean is you know? I mean, it's not like
- 15:40Speaker 2: that one was like an awesome movie.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but I do want to go back and rewatch
- 15:45Speaker 3: Rain of Fire because I loved that movie when I
- 15:47Speaker 3: was sixteen years old.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I do remember it being pretty cool, and.
- 15:52Speaker 3: It's kind of has a reputation now with looking back
- 15:55Speaker 3: where it's like not very well received. So it kind
- 15:58Speaker 3: of makes me nervous.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Oh well, yeah, I mean I have I feel like
- 16:02Speaker 2: a lot of stuff we like back then, I don't
- 16:04Speaker 2: even know if it was good.
- 16:05Speaker 3: I'm going to look and see what it's rutting for the.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Reason, you know, for probably totally different reasons now than
- 16:12Speaker 2: when we watched it back then.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Do you want to guess what the tomato meter is
- 16:16Speaker 3: for Rain a Fire? Forty three, forty one the Popcorn
- 16:20Speaker 3: Meter sixty seven forty nine. Oh God, people did not
- 16:30Speaker 3: like Rain of Fire. I don't remember Gerard Butler in
- 16:34Speaker 3: Rain of Fire.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I don't either, but.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I know I had that DVD and I watched that
- 16:39Speaker 3: movie a million times when I was a teenager. So hey,
- 16:42Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe that's maybe I was the target demo.
- 16:45Speaker 2: But depending on again, how he looked is it's just
- 16:48Speaker 2: not the Gerard Butler we think we know.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Timeline's another one that's popped up a couple of times
- 16:55Speaker 3: throughout our podcasting days that I want to go to.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Don't remember liking it when I saw it.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I don't remember seeing it. I just know that I have.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Some I would say, I think we went to the
- 17:04Speaker 2: theater to see it, but I just remember not liking it.
- 17:07Speaker 3: So also in two thousand and four, he's in Dear Frankie. Okay,
- 17:14Speaker 3: two thousand and five, he's in the Game of Their Lives.
- 17:18Speaker 3: He's in BeO Wolf and Grendel, where he plays BeO
- 17:23Speaker 3: Wolf and Stellan scars guards.
- 17:26Speaker 2: In that as well, he shared the screen with some
- 17:29Speaker 2: pretty well.
- 17:32Speaker 4: I don't think I saw that BeO Wolf.
- 17:34Speaker 3: I didn't either. He's in Let's see Wrath of Gods,
- 17:42Speaker 3: where he's also a co producer that he plays himself.
- 17:49Speaker 3: I don't know what any of this stuff is.
- 17:51Speaker 4: We should skip that one.
- 17:52Speaker 3: But we get to three hundred. I know that one,
- 17:55Speaker 3: and from there he follows it up with Yes I
- 18:00Speaker 3: Love You, which I kind of remember that like an interesting.
- 18:04Speaker 4: He's changed into sweet rom com.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Yeah, interesting rebound there Off of three hundred. He does
- 18:10Speaker 3: a film called Nim's Island in two thousand and eight,
- 18:13Speaker 3: also works with Guy Ritchie on Rock and Roller. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 3: in two thousand and eight.
- 18:17Speaker 4: I do remember him in that one. That's a cool one.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Two thousand and nine he's in The Ugly Truth, So
- 18:22Speaker 3: we're really leaning into like the rom com stuff. At
- 18:25Speaker 3: this point. He's in a film called Gamer science fiction
- 18:29Speaker 3: action film. He's the only one on the poster.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember that.
- 18:35Speaker 3: And then we also had Law Abiding Citizen in two
- 18:37Speaker 3: thousand and nine, so it feels like we go into
- 18:42Speaker 3: twenty ten, we get The Bounty Hunter with Jeniff him
- 18:45Speaker 3: and Jennifer Aniston is the voice in How to Train
- 18:49Speaker 3: Your Dragon. It's like we're it feels like two thousand
- 18:52Speaker 3: and nine twenty ten, we're getting into like the peak
- 18:55Speaker 3: of his stardom is do you think that's fair to say, yes,
- 18:58Speaker 3: what from this period stands out to you?
- 19:02Speaker 2: Well, three hundred we talked about, which I would consider
- 19:04Speaker 2: that's obviously his big breakthrough.
- 19:06Speaker 3: And I don't think that's just us. I mean from
- 19:09Speaker 3: a lot of the reading that I was doing prepping
- 19:11Speaker 3: for this episode, it feels like a lot of people
- 19:14Speaker 3: were like, yeah, I had no clue who this guy
- 19:17Speaker 3: was until three hundred, when.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Well, and he was his physicality, yeah, and that, and
- 19:23Speaker 2: I think that's sort of what kind of led him
- 19:26Speaker 2: to some of these, isn't it other roles?
- 19:30Speaker 4: I guess?
- 19:31Speaker 3: Isn't it weird to look back on that film in
- 19:34Speaker 3: film history? Is like what it did for Gerard Butler,
- 19:37Speaker 3: but also what it did for Zack Snyder too, Yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 3: because I mean that was that was a popular movie
- 19:44Speaker 3: for super popular in two thousand and six.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I don't know the way it looked, what it.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Was, how it performed at the box office or anything
- 19:52Speaker 3: like that, but the way that it looked, the style,
- 19:56Speaker 3: the story, the everything about it was just like like
- 20:00Speaker 3: when we were twenty year olds in two thousand and six,
- 20:03Speaker 3: we were in college watching this, like Wow, this is
- 20:06Speaker 3: this is so cool. I remember it being kind of
- 20:08Speaker 3: akin to Sin City there.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 20:11Speaker 3: It's just like, oh man, this style of filmmaking is
- 20:14Speaker 3: just this is the future. It's so cool and all
- 20:17Speaker 3: that stuff. And now it's like, I wish people would
- 20:19Speaker 3: shut the fuck up about Zack Snyder.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Yeah, me too, And because one he's wore that out. Yeah,
- 20:26Speaker 2: I mean.
- 20:26Speaker 3: It's almost been twenty this is we're into twenty twenty six.
- 20:30Speaker 3: We're only three hundred if I'm not mistaken. Came out
- 20:34Speaker 3: late spring, like we're only we're only a few months
- 20:37Speaker 3: away from this film we're talking about being twenty years old.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I think it was March or April.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Ye, yeah, So, I don't know. It's just it's just
- 20:44Speaker 3: interesting to think about how a single film can be
- 20:49Speaker 3: a launching point for so much.
- 20:51Speaker 2: But then how But then I think it also kind
- 20:54Speaker 2: of then speaks to their longevity. Yeah, and sort of
- 21:00Speaker 2: what are they doing? Not that not that either guy
- 21:03Speaker 2: and getting a job?
- 21:05Speaker 4: But was that the best?
- 21:09Speaker 2: I mean a lot of yeah, yeah, I say which
- 21:11Speaker 2: I mean a lot of people do like his Watchman.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I'm not a huge fan of but a lot of
- 21:14Speaker 2: people do like that, but like Sucker Punch and whatever
- 21:18Speaker 2: that Dead movie is with Batista in Vegas.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he doesn't, it's not the movie.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Do you do a Superman movie in which and which
- 21:29Speaker 2: cut is out? Now?
- 21:30Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I've never seen a director make something and then hype
- 21:35Speaker 2: his cut of it later, which he did with that
- 21:38Speaker 2: Vegas Dead movie too, And I just thought, can't you
- 21:41Speaker 2: just make your movie first and then just release it?
- 21:44Speaker 2: Like why does every why does every other director just
- 21:47Speaker 2: release what they need? Like I get if they go
- 21:49Speaker 2: back and listen, you know, Copela's gone back and changed
- 21:52Speaker 2: stuff in two.
- 21:52Speaker 4: But first of all, he's no Copeland.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Second of all, he did it like I don't know,
- 21:57Speaker 2: twenty thirty years after. Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I'm it's not even superhero stuff. I'm just like, you
- 22:05Speaker 2: can only feed off your same bullshit for so long.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I guess that's why Gerard Butler never worked with him again.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Yeah. Maybe I don't know.
- 22:15Speaker 4: I've made I made that part up, but I don't think.
- 22:17Speaker 3: I don't think they did.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I would just say his rom com phase. I
- 22:23Speaker 2: remember thinking, PS, I Love you was all right? Now?
- 22:26Speaker 2: That was with Hillary Spike, who I think is a
- 22:28Speaker 2: great actress. The Ugly Truth was awful, The Bounty Hunter
- 22:31Speaker 2: was stupid. Gamer just kind of seemed like it reminded
- 22:36Speaker 2: me sort of like Doom. It's kind of just like
- 22:39Speaker 2: a very forgettable, generic action movie. But you do have
- 22:43Speaker 2: the guy from three hundred in it.
- 22:45Speaker 3: What about Rock and Roller?
- 22:46Speaker 4: I loved and still do. I love rock and Rolling?
- 22:50Speaker 3: Where does that stand in your your your Guy Ritchie rankings?
- 22:54Speaker 2: It's up there. I like, Uh, he's I wish he
- 22:59Speaker 2: would do more with Guy Ritchie.
- 23:01Speaker 4: I wish he would.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I know Guy Ritchie does three movies a year.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I was so Guy Ritchie doesn't stop, my God.
- 23:11Speaker 4: So he should be able to.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Rock and roll. I remember that being like just cool,
- 23:20Speaker 2: What did.
- 23:21Speaker 3: You think of law abiding citizens?
- 23:23Speaker 2: All right? So I really liked it when it came out.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I thought it was really cool and I liked that
- 23:29Speaker 2: side of Gerard Butler. Uh it was with Jamie Fox
- 23:33Speaker 2: in it. But I think as it's as I've gotten older,
- 23:38Speaker 2: I don't I haven't really revisited it, but I don't
- 23:44Speaker 2: think it probably holds up the same way. I don't
- 23:47Speaker 2: think it comes as cross as this kind of clever
- 23:50Speaker 2: uh mind game that he that that I thought the
- 23:55Speaker 2: movie was or let me just say it could still be.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I just don't think it's as clever as I thought
- 24:03Speaker 2: it was.
- 24:05Speaker 3: If you're watching it for the first time in two
- 24:07Speaker 3: thousand and nine, probably feels pretty cool. Yes, if you're
- 24:10Speaker 3: watching it for the first time in twenty twenty six
- 24:13Speaker 3: after this barrage of movies that are kind of like androgynous,
- 24:20Speaker 3: like they're all the same without defining qualities, yeah, it
- 24:23Speaker 3: probably feels like this is just another of his.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Movie and Jamie Fox had you know, it's a different
- 24:29Speaker 2: Jamie Fox in two thousand and nine than it is
- 24:31Speaker 2: in twenty twenty six. But this reminds me, and honestly,
- 24:35Speaker 2: I'd like to go and watch this one again. I
- 24:37Speaker 2: kind of feel like I was like that with Fracture,
- 24:40Speaker 2: the had Ryan Gosling and Anthony Hopkins. I remember, thing
- 24:42Speaker 2: is so cool. Yeah, they're so clever the way Anthony Hopkins.
- 24:45Speaker 2: But now I'm like, if I watch it now, I
- 24:47Speaker 2: just wonder if it even like is remotely gonna give
- 24:54Speaker 2: me that same feeling of when I first watched it,
- 24:56Speaker 2: and so part of me thinks I won't.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Oh very well talked about his voice a signature of his,
- 25:02Speaker 3: like it was only a matter of time before, like
- 25:05Speaker 3: he gets his How to Train Your Dragon role. It's
- 25:07Speaker 3: perfect for him. He can do that for the rest
- 25:10Speaker 3: of his career, as long as they want to make
- 25:11Speaker 3: those movies.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Well, now he's the live action.
- 25:13Speaker 3: He's the live action one, so like, go make your
- 25:16Speaker 3: money king.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Yeah, well technically he can't unless they bring him back
- 25:23Speaker 4: to life.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Okay, Well, so listen, these movies have been out for
- 25:28Speaker 2: years and years.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Sorry to break it to everybody.
- 25:32Speaker 3: But just in twenty ten alone, twenty ten to twenty eleven,
- 25:38Speaker 3: he was the He voiced three How to Train Your
- 25:41Speaker 3: Dragon movies because they do all the little spinoffs.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, so now see, look,
- 25:47Speaker 2: there's there's room for him to come back, and I'm
- 25:50Speaker 2: sure find.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Ways to voice uh yeah yeah, but yeah you could.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And that's probably where he's lived most of his life
- 25:56Speaker 2: off How to Train Your Dragon money. I'm sure there's
- 25:59Speaker 2: games he's done too. For How to Train Your Dragon.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Twenty eleven, he's in Coriolanis, which is a Shakespeare brought
- 26:09Speaker 3: to the screen, directed and produced by Ray Fines.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Oh really about that?
- 26:13Speaker 3: Wow?
- 26:13Speaker 2: His directorial debut Conlingus is that what it's called.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Coriolanis m he plays Tullus sees that alfidious.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Well, good for him, it's different.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Twenty eleven is also machine Gun Preacher.
- 26:28Speaker 2: I like that one. That's a sneaky one.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Twenty twelve is chasing Mavericks and playing for Keeps, so
- 26:36Speaker 3: dipping back into the rom com with Jessica Biel, Catherine
- 26:39Speaker 3: Zeita Jones, Uma Thurman, Judy Greer, Dennis Quaid in supporting roles.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I feel like I remember seeing that, but I also
- 26:47Speaker 2: remember thinking that might be the worst of those wrong comes,
- 26:52Speaker 2: so I really have tried to just pretend it didn't exist.
- 26:56Speaker 3: He has a segment in movie forty three plays a
- 27:00Speaker 3: leprechan Yeah, well they're all. Twenty thirteen is also Olympus
- 27:04Speaker 3: Has Fallen, which feels like there's like three different movies
- 27:08Speaker 3: like this at the time.
- 27:10Speaker 2: White House Down, White House Down, Jamie Fox and Channing Tatum.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I remember that one.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Twenty fourteen is How to Train Your Dragon two three hundred,
- 27:18Speaker 3: Rise of an Empire. He has a cameo in that. Yeah,
- 27:22Speaker 3: And then twenty sixteen, who Gods of Egypt? Did you
- 27:29Speaker 3: ever see that? One?
- 27:30Speaker 2: I did?
- 27:31Speaker 3: What'd you think of it.
- 27:32Speaker 2: It's not very good.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, well that's a rough one.
- 27:36Speaker 2: London has Fallen, and that the one has Chawick Boseman
- 27:38Speaker 2: in there.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Uh yeah, it is okay, I thought, yeah.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I just remember the special effects were awful. They were
- 27:46Speaker 2: trying to do a visual thing.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Anyway, go ahead, Yeah, London has Fallen, which I never saw.
- 27:52Speaker 3: I never saw. I thought Olympus has Fallen was okay
- 27:56Speaker 3: for like Friday night date night movie, a bag of
- 28:00Speaker 3: popcorn in the microwave.
- 28:01Speaker 2: It's perfect for TNT. If that still a T and
- 28:05Speaker 2: T action.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Flick, then he's He's also in a movie called a
- 28:10Speaker 3: Family Man in twenty sixteen. It's a drama that I
- 28:16Speaker 3: don't Yeah, I don't know.
- 28:17Speaker 4: I remember seeing it.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Twenty seventeen is Geostorm, No Thanks, twenty eighteen, Den of Thieves,
- 28:26Speaker 3: The Vanishing and Hunter Killer twenty nineteen another How to
- 28:32Speaker 3: Train Your Dragon movie, and then Angel Has Fallen correct,
- 28:38Speaker 3: and then that gets us to twenty twenty in Greenland,
- 28:41Speaker 3: and that just.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Geostorm. I don't think was that bad.
- 28:46Speaker 4: But it's just.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Not that great, okay, that's fair.
- 28:54Speaker 4: I like Din of Thieves.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I think it's that character is probably one of, if
- 28:58Speaker 2: not his best character. It's it's perfect for him. He's
- 29:04Speaker 2: nasty but get stuff done, and but he is he's
- 29:10Speaker 2: sort of the like he's the cop that won't let
- 29:12Speaker 2: up with these robbers?
- 29:14Speaker 3: Is that his best movie of the twenty tens?
- 29:17Speaker 2: Uh? I mean, if I don't include How to Train
- 29:20Speaker 2: Your Dragon stuff, well yeah, that feels yeah. Then then A.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Machine Gun Preacher. You said you liked it.
- 29:26Speaker 2: I liked it, but I liked Dn of Thieves better,
- 29:28Speaker 2: and I like, I really like because he does a
- 29:32Speaker 2: sequel to Din of Thieves that just came out a
- 29:34Speaker 2: year or two ago, And uh, I love that character,
- 29:37Speaker 2: Like he is perfect for that character.
- 29:41Speaker 4: It's a good shootout thing. It tries. It's kind of
- 29:43Speaker 4: a ripoff of heat, but they try.
- 29:46Speaker 3: How does this this stretch in the twenty tens compare
- 29:50Speaker 3: to that late two thousands run we were talking about
- 29:54Speaker 3: with three hundred and ps I Love You and Rock
- 29:57Speaker 3: and Roll up when we start like Law Buying Citizen,
- 30:01Speaker 3: where we start to think like there's gonna be something here.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I mean, at one point I remember people thinking like
- 30:06Speaker 3: Gerard Butler's the next big movie star.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and for the action to me, it.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Feels like twenty ten's did anything but put him over
- 30:17Speaker 3: the top as a major movie star.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I think he was kind of maybe seen as like
- 30:22Speaker 2: a reliable name, like a draw yeah but not but
- 30:27Speaker 2: not but middle of the road, like when everything would
- 30:30Speaker 2: be put in theaters. Now that's I don't really think
- 30:33Speaker 2: that's that's the case. I think Gerard Butler has kind
- 30:36Speaker 2: of worked his way into a type of niche of
- 30:41Speaker 2: movies that he's going to do, and I think you're
- 30:43Speaker 2: gonna I think it becomes more clear by the time
- 30:45Speaker 2: we kind of get to from here on out, like
- 30:49Speaker 2: from that first Greenland movie on, we're gonna say, oh,
- 30:53Speaker 2: this is sort of what he's doing. And some of
- 30:56Speaker 2: it ends up being better than you think.
- 30:58Speaker 4: But a lot of them I think would be considered kind.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Of hard boiled action movies, gritty b movies, and I
- 31:05Speaker 2: think that's sort of where he's at. And then like, oh, okay,
- 31:08Speaker 2: I'll do the live action how Train your Dragon? Now
- 31:12Speaker 2: I can go do other shit.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, in twenty twenty one, he's in a film
- 31:17Speaker 3: called cop Shop, so dark comedy action thriller.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Pleasantly surprised by that one. I want to say that's
- 31:26Speaker 2: probably been my favorite of his.
- 31:30Speaker 4: For a long time. I did. I.
- 31:32Speaker 2: I think it's because I just didn't know what to expect.
- 31:34Speaker 2: But the but the guy plays the story that centered
- 31:38Speaker 2: around it. It.
- 31:39Speaker 4: I like that more than than I thought I would.
- 31:43Speaker 3: He's in twenty twenty two's last scene Alive.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:48Speaker 4: I don't know what that is.
- 31:49Speaker 3: He's in Plane in twenty.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Twenty that one with Luke Luke Cage Guy.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Mike Colter, Yeah yeah, Kanda Horrorn, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 32:03Speaker 3: twenty twenty three, yep, I remember seeing that my action thriller.
- 32:06Speaker 2: These all blend in from playing and stuff because he's
- 32:08Speaker 2: basically running around just shooting guns.
- 32:10Speaker 3: And takes twenty twenty four off. Not sure what he
- 32:13Speaker 3: was doing then.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Action How to Train Your Dragon maybe Den.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Of Thieves two. Pantera is in twenty twenty five, along
- 32:22Speaker 3: with the live action How to Train Your Dragon, and
- 32:25Speaker 3: a film called In the Hand of Dante.
- 32:28Speaker 2: That's like one that has like Oscar Eyes, has a
- 32:30Speaker 2: bunch of people in it and with all different like
- 32:33Speaker 2: it's just did Can or something, but there's a ton
- 32:36Speaker 2: of people in it.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, John Malkovich, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, Jason Momoa.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I couldn't even tell you what it was all about,
- 32:49Speaker 2: but I think it's also like three hours long.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Yeah, how did we I have not heard of this film?
- 32:56Speaker 4: Well, it just it just hit some film festival this
- 32:59Speaker 4: year or last year.
- 33:02Speaker 3: But yeah, again, ensemble, But that catches us up to
- 33:05Speaker 3: Greenland two Migration. He's also in All Star Weekend, which
- 33:08Speaker 3: is that weird Jamie Fox led basketball movie that we've
- 33:13Speaker 3: talked about before.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I mean listen, he's not picky.
- 33:20Speaker 3: That's and you know what I don't know. This is
- 33:24Speaker 3: where the conversation gets tricky. Well, I want to ask
- 33:27Speaker 3: if there's any of those films from the last five
- 33:29Speaker 3: years or you want to talk.
- 33:32Speaker 2: About No again. The Dinner Thieves sequel is fine, It's
- 33:38Speaker 2: not as good as the first one. That kind of
- 33:40Speaker 2: becomes more of a team up with O'shee Jackson, who
- 33:44Speaker 2: was in the original. Again, the character is who is
- 33:49Speaker 2: is what's most appealing in all of that, and so
- 33:51Speaker 2: Jar Butler is a great job with that. But no,
- 33:54Speaker 2: no planes, I mean they're all The thing is is
- 33:58Speaker 2: that they all kind of are sort of the same thing,
- 34:01Speaker 2: as everyone knows. I'm a huge fan of Mark Wahlberg
- 34:04Speaker 2: and the movies he does are all basically the same,
- 34:07Speaker 2: and Jerard Butler's guilty of that. But then he'll all
- 34:10Speaker 2: of a sudden kind of bring this kind of character
- 34:12Speaker 2: work to like Den of Thieves, or he's he's you know,
- 34:16Speaker 2: he's he's kind of he's showing you a different direction
- 34:19Speaker 2: with a movie that doesn't go how you think it's
- 34:21Speaker 2: gonna go, and like cop Shop and that's like I'm
- 34:26Speaker 2: excited for him for that, and like, yeah, go ahead,
- 34:29Speaker 2: do all those how to Train Your Dragons. You deserve it.
- 34:32Speaker 4: Everyone needs something like that.
- 34:35Speaker 2: But then there's so many in this in this filmography
- 34:38Speaker 2: that's just like, I don't know if it's bad management
- 34:40Speaker 2: or he just said yes to whatever, or he thought, oh,
- 34:44Speaker 2: a rom com with Katherine Heigel, which at the time
- 34:47Speaker 2: wasn't too crazy. She's knocked up, she's in twenty seven dresses.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I mean, Jennifer Aniston, you just named all those people
- 34:53Speaker 2: on that plan for keeps, but I mean it doesn't
- 34:55Speaker 2: It just didn't mean anything, which means I think we
- 34:58Speaker 2: only like Gerard Butler just as an audience. We only
- 35:01Speaker 2: like him in one thing. And so I think Gerard
- 35:03Speaker 2: Butler's gonna do that one thing.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I still feel like I don't know, maybe I'm
- 35:13Speaker 3: giving him too much credit here, but it feels like
- 35:15Speaker 3: there are flashes in some of his older movies. I
- 35:19Speaker 3: haven't watched. I honestly, the last movie that I watched
- 35:24Speaker 3: of his was probably Geostorm. Geostorm in twenty seventeen. I
- 35:32Speaker 3: don't think I've watched anything.
- 35:33Speaker 2: That has been almost ten years since you've watched.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Yeah, which it sounds like I need to go watch
- 35:37Speaker 3: cop Shop and didn't.
- 35:38Speaker 4: He's at least the first one.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Yeah, but I kind of gave up on him a
- 35:43Speaker 3: long time ago to be to.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Be compared's the only one.
- 35:46Speaker 3: It is like, I, you know, this is not this
- 35:49Speaker 3: is no longer. He's not a can't miss movie, can't
- 35:53Speaker 3: miss the movies right the way we thought he was
- 35:55Speaker 3: going to be. But looking back at some of his
- 35:58Speaker 3: performances during that time when we thought this guy was
- 36:01Speaker 3: going to be a big movie star, you see the
- 36:04Speaker 3: flashes of what he can really, like the spice he
- 36:07Speaker 3: can add to a film. And you talked about like
- 36:10Speaker 3: some of his character work, like he's a commanding presence
- 36:13Speaker 3: when he's on screen. Yeah, And so I don't know
- 36:16Speaker 3: if it's fair to say this is a question of
- 36:18Speaker 3: talent versus opportunity, but I just I really want to
- 36:23Speaker 3: see him get a role where he can show us
- 36:26Speaker 3: what he's really capable of. Well, and maybe that's the thing,
- 36:29Speaker 3: is that maybe this is what he's capable of, and
- 36:31Speaker 3: this is just what we're gonna get. But I feel
- 36:34Speaker 3: like there are moments where you see more in his work,
- 36:37Speaker 3: and that's what I want to see more of from him.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I think he's also just kind of been, you know,
- 36:43Speaker 2: put in a box. And and the thing is when
- 36:46Speaker 2: he has ventured out with these rom coms and stuff,
- 36:48Speaker 2: they either either critically paanned and box office failures. I
- 36:53Speaker 2: don't think any of those were successful.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Now did any of them get? How many of these
- 36:58Speaker 3: got theatrical runs?
- 37:00Speaker 2: Well, all the The Ugly Truth, Bounty Hunter, ps, I
- 37:05Speaker 2: Love You, they all did get.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Oh I'm sorry I was. Yeah, I'm mixed it up.
- 37:09Speaker 4: But well, some of these action ones like Hunter Killer
- 37:11Speaker 4: didn't come out.
- 37:12Speaker 3: That's what I was meaning was like, how many of
- 37:15Speaker 3: these films.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Are Yeah, but surprisingly more got into theaters than you
- 37:19Speaker 2: would think.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Surprise.
- 37:21Speaker 2: So I but I feel like he's kind of tried
- 37:24Speaker 2: it but then also I mean just in general, what
- 37:27Speaker 2: does he like to do, what does he not like
- 37:28Speaker 2: to do? What is he being offered? Is this the
- 37:31Speaker 2: best of the worst? You know? But then again it's
- 37:36Speaker 2: it just goes to show you depending on how how
- 37:39Speaker 2: you utilize. I mean, this probably goes for any actor,
- 37:42Speaker 2: but Jard Butler's not really the type that's worked with.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Like you know, these big directors are highly influent, you know,
- 37:49Speaker 2: influential ones.
- 37:51Speaker 4: So but he but.
- 37:53Speaker 2: He's still out there putting in good work. But the
- 37:55Speaker 2: thing is you've got to find it. It's not it's
- 37:58Speaker 2: like you said, it's not a guaranteed thing. Not that
- 38:00Speaker 2: he has no talent when he's in plane, but it's
- 38:03Speaker 2: but it's like a you know, after the fourth Steven
- 38:06Speaker 2: Sagal movie, I think he got it. Yeah, and I'm
- 38:09Speaker 2: not I don't want to compare him that. But back
- 38:11Speaker 2: in the day him Jean Claude van Dam, I feel
- 38:14Speaker 2: like this is what Gerard Butler is now that we
- 38:17Speaker 2: expect him to be in certain genres and it works
- 38:20Speaker 2: and and maybe something enjoys and then he's, like I said,
- 38:24Speaker 2: you know, he kind of does the different ones in
- 38:27Speaker 2: like with how to train your Dragon. But the thing is,
- 38:31Speaker 2: you know, Jarman, it's not like Gerard Butler's name is
- 38:33Speaker 2: on the poster of.
- 38:33Speaker 4: How to Train Your Dragon, that's true.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's cool that they actually cast one voice
- 38:41Speaker 2: to be it, and he's perfect for it. And I
- 38:45Speaker 2: kind of hope in the second movie, I hope they
- 38:46Speaker 2: have Kate Blenchett actually be.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Hiccups Mama, hey does she voiced him?
- 38:53Speaker 3: So anyway?
- 38:55Speaker 2: But but yeah, but then it's like who thought Den
- 38:57Speaker 2: of Thieves would get a sequel? Who thought Great England
- 39:00Speaker 2: would get a sequel? And but then it's like he's
- 39:03Speaker 2: the thing is and I think we associate with like
- 39:05Speaker 2: what how could you do? But if if Greenland was
- 39:09Speaker 2: made for fifteen million and it made forty million, then
- 39:13Speaker 2: why not put it in? You know? And I have
- 39:14Speaker 2: And then if these is kind of like that, it's
- 39:17Speaker 2: the he you know, I mean, I'm sorry, but he's
- 39:19Speaker 2: not doing eighty hundred million dollar budgets, you know, not
- 39:22Speaker 2: not with like the sequels that yes, right, with How
- 39:25Speaker 2: to Train Your Dragon?
- 39:28Speaker 4: Put that aside.
- 39:29Speaker 2: So yeah, and the thing is, and I hate to
- 39:32Speaker 2: say it, but I feel like, you know, it's it's
- 39:34Speaker 2: always a back and forth just when you're naming these
- 39:37Speaker 2: movies where there's real potential opportunity, then we kind.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Of go back to what we expect.
- 39:41Speaker 2: So of course it's it's ultimately not ultimately forgettable, which
- 39:46Speaker 2: makes me wonder like because Greenland was sort of this
- 39:49Speaker 2: surprise like, oh, you know what, this was pretty good
- 39:52Speaker 2: and what they were trying to do. So now that
- 39:54Speaker 2: they've like, oh, okay, well let's do this and call
- 39:56Speaker 2: it migration, I feel like we're about to hit this hm,
- 40:01Speaker 2: you know, Plane and Hunter, Like we're about to hit
- 40:04Speaker 2: this thing where like, Okay, no one's gonna no one's
- 40:08Speaker 2: gonna go for this yeah, or it's not or it's
- 40:11Speaker 2: not gonna have the same impact because of it.
- 40:13Speaker 3: So, so do you do you have a uh Gerard
- 40:18Speaker 3: Butler Mount Rushmore?
- 40:22Speaker 2: I mean yeah, I mean I would probably say three hundred, yeah.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Cop Shop Okay, okay. Kind of surprised by.
- 40:30Speaker 2: That Den of Thieves because I really like that character. Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 2: and it's mostly and I'd like it, you know, it's
- 40:37Speaker 2: at its best in the in the first one. I'm
- 40:44Speaker 2: not really I'll say, how to Train Your Dragon, It.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Doesn't feel right to count him in that.
- 40:52Speaker 2: I'm with you there, and I don't really like to
- 40:54Speaker 2: him in the live action one, only because I still
- 40:56Speaker 2: like the animated trilogy the best. Anyway, So if I
- 40:59Speaker 2: if I, if I put that aside, if I just
- 41:02Speaker 2: take out How to Train Your Dragon, I would still
- 41:05Speaker 2: say cop Shop, Din of Thieves, three hundred, and I
- 41:17Speaker 2: mean just by going through them all. I mean, yeah,
- 41:21Speaker 2: I really did like Rock and Roller. Again, he's not
- 41:24Speaker 2: the only person in it, but I do it. But
- 41:26Speaker 2: I did like that one. Yeah, I guess I could.
- 41:31Speaker 4: It was four pretty good.
- 41:32Speaker 3: I don't know if I could muster for there's a
- 41:36Speaker 3: lot of there's a lot of his stuff that.
- 41:38Speaker 2: I just haven't seen, you mean, the good stuff.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I would go three hundred. I think
- 41:45Speaker 3: I would go law abiding citizen. I think I would
- 41:49Speaker 3: probably put yeah. See, this is where I get into like,
- 41:56Speaker 3: I guess I'll put ps I Love You in there.
- 42:00Speaker 3: I guess I'll put Olympuses fallen in there.
- 42:02Speaker 2: This is one of the saddest amount rushmoores, just like
- 42:05Speaker 2: picking the ones you've seen, I feel bad and then saying, oh,
- 42:10Speaker 2: but listen, this is coming from a guy who has
- 42:12Speaker 2: not seen anything since twenty seventeen.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Yeah, because I just was like, I'm done.
- 42:16Speaker 4: I would at least start with cop Shop.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that one. Do you know if it's streaming anything?
- 42:22Speaker 3: I don't, but.
- 42:25Speaker 4: I don't, but it's worth checking out.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Well, we found we have our methods.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you can find it.
- 42:31Speaker 4: We can find James.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Well, that's yeah.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Now when is he the coolest? That's that's probably donn
- 42:39Speaker 4: of Thieves.
- 42:40Speaker 2: He's just an old knucklehead, as they like to call him.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Okay, well we don't have any on history to talk about.
- 42:49Speaker 2: So why not.
- 42:50Speaker 3: I guess that's gonna do it for Gerard.
- 42:53Speaker 4: But let me tell you first of all, I want.
- 42:56Speaker 3: To watch the Phantom of the Opera. I'll leave on
- 42:58Speaker 3: that positive note. Oh okay, I do want to watch that.
- 43:01Speaker 2: I'm going to take off rock and roll out put
- 43:03Speaker 2: that on. There you go, I see I forgot again. Yeah, sorry, Gerard,
- 43:10Speaker 2: he's in the green room. I'm sorry, but yeah, I'm
- 43:14Speaker 2: glad we did it. I don't think I think he's
- 43:17Speaker 2: done some good stuff. I think he is somebody you
- 43:21Speaker 2: like you said, he's unmistakable, and I think it's I
- 43:24Speaker 2: think it's when we first were talking about it, I'm
- 43:27Speaker 2: like you like, this would be a good one.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and I I still think there's like room. I
- 43:34Speaker 3: still feel like there's room for him to do some
- 43:36Speaker 3: different things. I think somebody's got to be willing to
- 43:38Speaker 3: give him a chance.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:40Speaker 4: I think right now he's working in that.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Mid movie level where you know, you keep it you
- 43:49Speaker 2: it's a low cost, but the returns are bigger than
- 43:53Speaker 2: the budget, and he's he's he's reliable in that way.
- 43:58Speaker 2: He's reliable to put it and I think that's kind
- 44:01Speaker 2: of why he's gotten some of these movies that we've gotten.
- 44:04Speaker 2: And then there's sometimes you get something like huh uh,
- 44:09Speaker 2: my time's up.
- 44:10Speaker 3: No, that's the music's playing in our ears.
- 44:13Speaker 2: But oh okay. But but then, like I said, you
- 44:17Speaker 2: have something like dinn at these or cop shops. It's
- 44:18Speaker 2: just kind of like, oh, yeah, he is cool.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Yeah, he just.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Us ethe I was gonna say, I think he just
- 44:26Speaker 2: likes to throw a reminder. And then he's like, anyway,
- 44:27Speaker 2: I'm gonna go back to these one title movies.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Yeah, this is what they're paying me for.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Yeah, so gotta get got to get in that migration.
- 44:34Speaker 3: That's right, that's right. Well that's gonna do it for us,
- 44:37Speaker 3: unless you have any any parting shots on Gerard Butler.
- 44:42Speaker 2: No, I've never talked about him this much, so I
- 44:46Speaker 2: don't Thanks for letting me get that out.
- 44:49Speaker 3: I don't think I have either.
- 44:50Speaker 4: I don't think I've ever thought about Gerard Butler this night.
- 44:54Speaker 2: But but if anything, let me tell you, if anything,
- 44:59Speaker 2: I I at least feel good because I have spread
- 45:02Speaker 2: the good word about cop Shop.
- 45:04Speaker 3: That's right, that's what we've accomplished today. If nothing else, well,
- 45:07Speaker 3: Happy New Year again. Thank you all for listening to
