- 0:01Luke chapter 22. Let us pray.
- 0:10Our Father, we come to you today, Lord, and we acknowledge
- 0:15your supremacy. God, we acknowledge the
- 0:18supremacy over our very emotions and circumstances and
- 0:23sensibility. God, we acknowledge your
- 0:25supremacy, Father, over our families and over this world and
- 0:31over all the governments of this world.
- 0:33God, all the powers of this world.
- 0:35God, I know and we know and we acknowledge, God, that you are
- 0:40high and lifted up above all of the universe, above all of the
- 0:46things that are trying to exalt themselves over the knowledge of
- 0:50Jesus Christ. Lord, we desire to know Jesus
- 0:54Christ and Him crucified, and that is sufficient.
- 0:58God, Lord, we put on the full armor today.
- 1:03God, we stand on the truth, Lord, we live the right way,
- 1:08Father, we take the gospel, Lord, and receive peace.
- 1:13Lord, as we run this race, God, and as we take the whole word to
- 1:17the whole world, God, we recount our salvation story.
- 1:21We recount our testimony, Lord. We tell others about what you
- 1:28have done, Lord, and as you snatched us out of the fire,
- 1:31God, help us to go and snatch others out of the fire.
- 1:35God, I pray that you will increase our faith.
- 1:40Let us soak the shield in the living water, God, and as it
- 1:48becomes heavy, let us lift it up higher.
- 1:51God, you are Jehovah Nisi, You are the banner over us.
- 1:54You are over us, God, and we lift our faith up higher than
- 1:58our own mind and our cognition. God, give us a sound mind.
- 2:03I pray against the spirit of confusion.
- 2:05God, in the name of Jesus, Lord, we drive out all the darkness.
- 2:10God, we operate in the currency of our faith.
- 2:13Father, and let us do war with the word.
- 2:17God. I pray that we will take this
- 2:21Holy Scripture, Lord, and we will replace all the lies that
- 2:25the enemy is trying to sow into our minds and hearts, God, and
- 2:30we'll replace those lies with your word, with your eternal
- 2:36word, God, from Genesis to Revelation, the infallible,
- 2:39inerrant word of God got your spoken word, the Rhema.
- 2:44Father, I pray in the name of Jesus that we'll be able to
- 2:49discern what it is that you want to say to us today.
- 2:54God, I just pray for peace and protection around our lives and
- 2:59around our families lives and around our houses and cars,
- 3:04businesses. God, in the name of Jesus, I
- 3:06pray that you will allow us to be your hands and feet and to
- 3:12increase the love that we have for you and the love that we
- 3:15have for our neighbors, Lord. And we pray that you'll help us,
- 3:19Lord, to know what to do and give us discernment.
- 3:23Holy Spirit, guide us. I decrease as you increase.
- 3:26It's all about you, King Jesus. We love you, Father.
- 3:29Yes, and it's in Jesus, this holy and precious and righteous
- 3:34powerful name that I pray. Amen.
- 3:38Well, let's start in verse one. Now the Feast of Unleavened
- 3:43Bread drew near, which is called the Passover.
- 3:46So here we're entering into the scene of Jerusalem during this
- 3:50week, this Passion Week of Christ.
- 3:53And we know that they would have been celebrating the harvest
- 3:58time. They would have been celebrating
- 4:00being LED out of Egypt out of bondage and slavery.
- 4:04They would have been celebrating whenever they took the blood of
- 4:08the lamb and put it on the lentil and put it on the
- 4:11doorposts of their house where the the Angel of death comes
- 4:17through the camp and kills all the first born, but leaves all
- 4:21the Jewish families alone. And they're celebrating this and
- 4:26it would have had a messianic tone in their cultural setting.
- 4:31And here God Almighty Incarnate is in their midst and they
- 4:36missed it. And we are so blessed to have
- 4:44the full council helicopter view of Scripture.
- 4:48And then we can see it all. And we need to know that this
- 4:52city was hustling and bustling with so many millions of Jewish
- 4:57families, and they are preoccupied with this rogue St.
- 5:04preacher, and they want to put him to death.
- 5:07And how despicable this crime, the greatest crime ever
- 5:11committed, is what we're about to embark on.
- 5:15Verse 2 The chief priests and the scribes sought how they
- 5:19might kill him, for they feared the people.
- 5:22They didn't fear God, but they had the fear of man.
- 5:25And we need to let go of the fear of man.
- 5:27What is it profit a man to gain the whole world, but to lose his
- 5:30soul? And do not fear the one that can
- 5:33take your life away, but fear the one that can not only take
- 5:37your life away, but cast you into eternal damnation. 3 then
- 5:43entered Satan into Judas, surnamed Iscariot, being of the
- 5:47number of the 12 so Satan himself.
- 5:50Look at this friends, when you're just going along sinning,
- 5:56you don't care anything for God. Satan will leave you alone.
- 6:00He's limited in his resources. But when we are charging the
- 6:07hill and taking back enemy territory and we are involved in
- 6:11the work of God, don't be surprised if Satan himself
- 6:14targets you. And look at how Judas was
- 6:18following after the Lord. He was following after him and
- 6:22he had free will and he didn't have to do this.
- 6:26But it pleased the Lord to crush the Lord Jesus Christ, and He
- 6:33was bruised for our iniquities and His body stripes.
- 6:37We are healed. And we can see here how Satan
- 6:41himself has entered into Judas. And it was because Judas never
- 6:50made the connection. All he was there for was greed
- 6:54and money. And he knew that Jesus could
- 6:56gather a crowd, and all Judas could see was money, money,
- 7:01money. And he was blinded by greed.
- 7:07And we cannot serve 2 masters. You will love 1 and you will
- 7:11hate the other four. And he went his way, and commune
- 7:16with the chief priest and the captains, how he might betray
- 7:20unto them five. And they were glad, and
- 7:22covenanted to give him money. 6 And he promised and sought
- 7:27opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the
- 7:32multitude. So that's what they were after.
- 7:34They needed a private space where they could put their hands
- 7:39on God Incarnate. They feared the people, but they
- 7:45did not fear God. 7 Then came the Day of Unleavened bread,
- 7:51when the Passover must be killed.
- 7:53So we know that Jesus is the Passover lamb.
- 7:56We know that they would have had bread and wine, but he is the
- 8:02Lamb. A and he sent Peter and John
- 8:05saying, go and prepare the Passover that we may eat.
- 8:08So he just chose Peter and John, and he did not reveal to all of
- 8:13them where they would eat it, because he knew what Judas was
- 8:17up to. 9 And they said unto him, Where will you that we prepare?
- 8:2410 And you said unto them, Behold, when you are entered
- 8:27into the city, a shallow man meet you bearing a pitcher of
- 8:30water, follow him into the house where he enters in.
- 8:34So it would have been uncommon to see a man carrying a water
- 8:38pitcher, and this would have been their intelligence
- 8:42indicator of who they were to follow. 11 And you shall say
- 8:47unto the good man of the house, the Master says unto you, Where
- 8:51is the guest chamber? Where?
- 8:53Where I shall eat the Passover with my disciples.
- 8:57So we can see that Jesus has disciples all over the place.
- 9:01He had the people that had the young little coal, the young
- 9:05little donkey, the foal. And then here you can see that
- 9:11he also has those, perhaps John Mark's family, where they were
- 9:16going to eat in the city here in this large upper room. 12 And he
- 9:22shall show you a large upper room furnished there make ready.
- 9:2613 And they went and found, as he had said unto them, and they
- 9:30made the Passover. They made ready the Passover.
- 9:34So you can see this upper room is already furnished and we know
- 9:39that Jesus went to prepare a place for us and it's going too
- 9:43far, exceed all of our expectations, friends, and we
- 9:46don't work for the rewards, but we know that that's part of our
- 9:51journey. It's part of being discipled as
- 9:53part of being connected with Him, and He's already prepared
- 9:57it and it's furnished. Praise God, this is the way the
- 10:03Lord works. 14 And when the hour was come, he sat down in the 12
- 10:09apostles with him. 15 And he said unto them, with desire, I
- 10:14have desire to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For
- 10:18I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof until it be
- 10:23fulfilled in the Kingdom of God. 17 And he took the cup, and gave
- 10:27thanks, and said, this, Take this and divide it among
- 10:30yourselves. 18 For I say unto you, I will not drink the fruit
- 10:34of the vine until the Kingdom of God shall come.
- 10:37So we know that this Kingdom of God, friends, is more real than
- 10:41anything that we are experiencing in this present
- 10:44moment. This is forever, and right now
- 10:48counts forever. And we can see that Jesus is
- 10:51promising us an eternal place with him.
- 10:57He's promising us that this Kingdom of God is real.
- 11:01And he's telling us that we're going to eat and drink there and
- 11:04we're going to know each other, friends.
- 11:06And we can worship him now and worship him then.
- 11:08We can have and start relationships now that will have
- 11:12for all of eternity. And it is going to far exceed
- 11:16anything that you could ever imagine.
- 11:18Friends. 19 He took the bread and gave thanks, and he broke it
- 11:24and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for
- 11:28you. This do in remembrance of me.
- 11:31That's the whole basis of the whole thing, Friends.
- 11:34This is not some super spiritualized application.
- 11:39This is commonplace, friends. This bread and this wine is
- 11:43common items that they would have had daily and he's telling
- 11:47them to daily, and not only daily, but at least two to three
- 11:52times a day. Remember what he's done for
- 11:54them, not just a once a month thing, not just a couple times a
- 11:58year thing, not just a once a week thing, but daily.
- 12:02Remember what Jesus has done for them. 20 Likewise also the cup
- 12:10after supper, saying this cup is the New Testament in my blood,
- 12:14which is shed for you. So he sealed this new covenant,
- 12:17friends, with his own blood, and we can see that he was bruised
- 12:24and he was crushed, and he was broken and he was spilled out,
- 12:28Friends. 21 But behold, the hand of him that betrays me is with
- 12:33me on the table. So we know that John is leaning
- 12:36up against his bosom, and we know that Judas is down at its
- 12:40feet, and he's saying that he's right there, he's right in the
- 12:43room, the one that is going to betray him. 22 And truly the Son
- 12:47of Man goes as it was determined, but woe unto that
- 12:51man by whom he is betrayed. So it would have been better for
- 12:55Judas to never have been born. It would have been better for
- 12:58Judas to tie millstone around his neck and to be drowned in
- 13:02the depths of the sea. Friends, he went to eternal
- 13:06damnation and he damned himself because he had free will.
- 13:10And he's not excused for all the things that he did in betraying
- 13:19our master. He's not excused by 23 And they
- 13:28began to inquire among themselves which of them it was
- 13:31that should do this thing. Perhaps if Peter would have
- 13:34found out that it was Judas, he would have dispatched him that
- 13:37moment. 24 And there was also a strife among them.
- 13:43Which of them should be accounted the greatest?
- 13:45We see this recurring theme keep popping up.
- 13:49They missed the whole thing. Jesus couldn't have made it any
- 13:52plainer what was about to happen.
- 13:54And they're still thinking that Jesus is going in to overthrow
- 13:59the Roman government and become the king over that place.
- 14:03And they're wanting to know which of them is going to be the
- 14:06greatest in his Kingdom. 25 And he said unto them, The kings of
- 14:13the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and they, the
- 14:17exercise authority upon them, are called benefactors.
- 14:21We are not benefactors. We are servants, and we serve
- 14:25the servant of servants. 26 But you shall not be so.
- 14:29But he that is greatest among you, let him be the young be as
- 14:33the younger, and he that is chief as he that does serve.
- 14:37So we know that Jesus's economy is upside down and inside out,
- 14:42and it doesn't work the way that we think that it should.
- 14:45And the way up is down. Stay close to the ground.
- 14:48You'll be up in the clouds friends.
- 14:51That is what we must do if we want to become the greatest.
- 14:55We must wash the disciples feet. We must take the low position.
- 15:00If you're the CEO, if you're the CFO, if you're the COO, then you
- 15:06must become as the janitor and the garbage collector.
- 15:09And that is well pleasing in the sight of God. 27 For weather is
- 15:14greater. He that sits at dinner or he
- 15:17that serves is not he that sits at dinner, but I, I am among you
- 15:22as he that serves. So we know that Jesus did not
- 15:25come to be served, but to serve. And He modeled for us how we are
- 15:31to operate in this life and in this world, and what is pleasing
- 15:36unto the Father. Watch him follow after him.
- 15:40Friends, 28 You are they which have continued with me in my
- 15:47temptations. He's going to give them their
- 15:52inheritance. He's going to shower upon them
- 15:55what blessings they have in His Kingdom, the future Kingdom. 29
- 16:02And I appoint unto you a Kingdom, as my Father has
- 16:05appointed unto me. 30 that you may eat and drink at my table in
- 16:11my Kingdom, and sit on Thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel.
- 16:16So we know that part of the thousand year reign of Christ,
- 16:19friends, that Israel is going to come to the saving knowledge of
- 16:25the Lord Jesus Christ as their long-awaited Messiah.
- 16:30And they'll acknowledge that they murdered them and they'll
- 16:35finally come in. And it is the jealousy of seeing
- 16:40the Gentiles coming in that provokes them into salvation.
- 16:46And it is a divine mystery. 31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon,
- 16:52behold, Satan has desired to have you that he may sift you.
- 16:57As we. So we know from the story of Job
- 17:00that Satan has access to the throne room and he goes in and
- 17:04he has to ask for the permission, friends.
- 17:08And just know that God allows Satan to do the things that he's
- 17:12doing. And it all is playing out
- 17:15exactly the way that it should. And Satan knows the Bible,
- 17:19friends, and we must be on guard against all of the schemes of
- 17:24the enemy when he comes in to try to disrupt what we're doing
- 17:29for the Lord Jesus Christ and the ministry that the Lord and
- 17:33the mantle that the Lord has placed upon us, friends.
- 17:36And when Satan comes in, we must be able to have the discernment
- 17:40to know that that is not the voice of God.
- 17:43That is the voice of the serpent trying to throw us off.
- 17:46And God allows it to reveal to us our inner motives, Friends.
- 17:52And our inner motives need to be completely, 100% sold out to God
- 17:57Almighty, and we'll be able to stand firm, friends.
- 18:00And the gates of hell will not prevail against the plans of God
- 18:04in our own lives, friends, and for the church at large. 32 But
- 18:09I have prayed for you that your faith does not fail.
- 18:13And when you are converted, strengthen your brothers.
- 18:16That is it, Friends, Our faith cannot fail.
- 18:18We have Jesus rallying for us. We have Jesus rooting for us.
- 18:23We have Jesus cheering us on and praying for us and interceding
- 18:29on our behalf and standing in the gap.
- 18:32But we must increase our faith, and when we have strengthened
- 18:38ourselves in the Lord, we must go and strengthen our brothers.
- 18:42Friends, we cannot afford to be compromised.
- 18:48We cannot afford to allow all of the schemes of the enemy and all
- 18:53the ways of the world to come in and to creep in and to saturate
- 18:57our lives. We cannot allow it.
- 18:59We cannot allow it. We must stay on guard against
- 19:03all the fiery darts of the enemy.
- 19:06Soak that shield in the living water. 33 And he said unto them,
- 19:16Lord, I am ready to go with you both into prison and to death.
- 19:20Look how emboldened Peter is. And it sounds good, but a little
- 19:24servant girl is going to dismay him, to deny our master.
- 19:28And it is super easy to say one thing, but it is a whole nother
- 19:35affair to actually put it into practice.
- 19:38And that is what the Lord does with you and with me is he is
- 19:42sanctifying you. And through the trials of this
- 19:45life, we all say we would do one thing, but whenever the rubber
- 19:49hits the road, whenever we actually have to put it into
- 19:52practice, it's a whole nother affair. 34 And he said, I tell
- 19:57you, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day before you will
- 20:02deny me 3 times. 35 And he said unto them, When I sent you
- 20:09without purse and script and shoes, did you like anything?
- 20:13And they said nothing. 36 And then he said unto them, But now
- 20:19he that has a purse, let him take it.
- 20:22And likewise his script. And he that has no sword, let
- 20:25him sell his garment and buy. 1 So we know that the righteous
- 20:31take the Kingdom by force and by violence.
- 20:35And we know, friends, that we must go into enemy territory,
- 20:39and we know that it is not safe. But he is good friends. 37 For I
- 20:45say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished
- 20:50in me. And he was reckoned among the
- 20:53transgressors for the things concerning me having in.
- 20:57He knew that his time was short. He knew that he was about to be
- 21:00betrayed. And he's setting his disciples
- 21:03up for their martyrdom. He's setting them up for the
- 21:06hostile territory that they must go into in the spiritual realm
- 21:11and in the physicality, friends. And Jesus knows everything that
- 21:15we're going to go through, and let's see what they say. 38 And
- 21:18and they say, Lord, behold, here are two swords.
- 21:21And he says it is enough. Our Father, our Lord, our Jesus
- 21:30Christ says, that's enough. And this calls for wisdom. 39
- 21:40And he came out and went as he was won't to the Mount of
- 21:46Olives, and his disciples also followed him.
- 21:49So we know that he's going to the garden of Gethsemane here.
- 21:5340 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that you
- 21:58enter not into temptation. So we know that he left the
- 22:02upper room and he sung some psalms, these messianic psalms
- 22:06that was, it was pronouncing what was about to happen in the
- 22:11words on Jesus's lips. And it's all culminating and
- 22:14it's all beautiful in the sight of God.
- 22:16And he knew how to bring about our salvation.
- 22:21And we see that he is telling his disciples to pray that they
- 22:25will not enter temptation. And he's telling you and he's
- 22:28telling me to pray so that we do not enter into temptation.
- 22:31Friends today do not fall asleep.
- 22:34Friends 41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast.
- 22:39And he knelt down and prayed. You can see here, Doctor Luke,
- 22:42He is giving us details upon details upon details.
- 22:46These are eyewitness events, and they are trustworthy and true.
- 22:5142 saying, Father, if you will be willing, remove this cup for
- 22:56me. Nevertheless, not my will, but
- 22:58yours be done. So this cup of fury poured out
- 23:02and this broken communion between Father God and the only
- 23:08begotten Son. And we know that Jesus was
- 23:14grieved because he had shared in this beautiful communion with
- 23:20Father and he did not want it to be broken.
- 23:25He was not fearful of the death that he was going to have to
- 23:28suffer. He did not want the dregs that
- 23:33he was about to have to drink on all of the sins of all the
- 23:38world, for all time's sake of all mankind.
- 23:42Friends, he was about to drink to the last drop, but he knows
- 23:48that he must do it. 43 And there appeared an Angel unto him from
- 23:52heaven, strengthening him. So we know that Jesus was
- 23:57strengthened here, just like he was in the wilderness during the
- 24:00temptation. 44 and being in agony, he prayed more earnestly.
- 24:07And his sweat was, as it were, great drops of blood falling
- 24:13down to the ground. So we know that the viscosity of
- 24:18this sweat was so thick that it was like blood splattered upon
- 24:22the ground. These eyewitness disciples
- 24:25looking at their master and seeing these drops of sweat like
- 24:31blood. 45 And when he rose up from prayer and was come to his
- 24:39disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow.
- 24:43Some of us sleep for sorrow, friends, we drown out our sorrow
- 24:46with sleep, and we're depressed because of our anxieties.
- 24:50And it's all this big cycle that we must push back upon and we
- 24:57must increase our faith, friends.
- 24:59And we must lock eyes with him, friends.
- 25:02And he must be enough. Jesus has to be enough.
- 25:05Jesus has to be preeminent. Jesus has to be our main thing.
- 25:09Jesus has to be above all of our circumstances and emotions,
- 25:14Friends. We cannot fall asleep for
- 25:16sorrow. 46 and said unto them, Why do you sleep, rise and pray
- 25:24unless you enter into temptation.
- 25:26A lot of us are medicating our sorrow and we are medicating it
- 25:31and it's actually stifling our prayer life.
- 25:33It's actually stifling our faithfulness, friends, and we
- 25:38must be found in prayer. It is our lifeline.
- 25:41It is what we have is the power that we have available to us is
- 25:46in our prayer life, friends. And when you pray, make sure
- 25:52that you eyes are completely fixated upon Jesus's face, eyes
- 25:57like fire and hair like wool. The voice of many waters. 47 And
- 26:06while he yet spoke, behold A multitude, and he that was
- 26:10called Judas, one of the 12 went before them and drew near unto
- 26:15Jesus to kiss him. He was betrayed with a kiss. 49
- 26:21When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said
- 26:26unto him, Lord, shall we strike with the sword?
- 26:31We know that those that live by the sword die by the sword.
- 26:34And Jesus here just told them to sell their garments and buy a
- 26:38sword, and they said they had two.
- 26:41And let's see what Jesus has to say about it all.
- 26:45And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and
- 26:49cut off his right ear. We know that this was Malchus,
- 26:52and we know that this was never in Jesus's plan.
- 26:58He went to the slaughter like a lamb, silent before the shears.
- 27:0851 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye this far?
- 27:12And he touched his ear and healed him.
- 27:15Perhaps if he had not healed Malchus's ear, Jesus would have
- 27:21not only been the only one being LED into the House of Anice
- 27:27Caiaphas, pilot and haired, but also Peter as well.
- 27:31We know that this was Peter trying to have bravado in this
- 27:36moment. He was so fearful that lot of
- 27:43scholars believe he struck this servant from behind like a
- 27:48coward. He had such bravado in Word, but
- 27:53he had not yet received his true bravado, his true emboldened in
- 28:05zeal for the Lord. He was still thinking that Jesus
- 28:11was coming into the Kingdom to overthrow the Roman government.
- 28:16He had not yet figured out that he was coming for the salvation
- 28:20of the whole world, not just for Israel and Jerusalem. 52 And
- 28:30Jesus said unto the chief priests and captains of the
- 28:32temple, and the elders, which were come to him, But you come
- 28:38out as against a thief with swords and staves.
- 28:43He's saying that he was in the temple the whole time, and they
- 28:47didn't lay hands on him for fear of the people.
- 28:49And now that he's in this private place, they're coming
- 28:52out like they're coming up against a rogue mercenary.
- 28:55They're coming up against the leader of a army.
- 28:59And he dispatched the 5000. He dispatched the 4000 and he
- 29:03told them that they must drink his blood and eat his flesh.
- 29:07And they did not like it because it was a hard saying.
- 29:09And he knew he could have amassed an army, but he chose
- 29:13not to. He had this little band of 12
- 29:16disciples, and here he's calling them out and he's saying, You're
- 29:23coming out against me with swords and Staffs as if, as if
- 29:26against a thief. 53 And when I was daily with you in the
- 29:30temple, you stretched forth, no hands against me, but this is
- 29:35your hour. The and the power of darkness.
- 29:38And friends, think about it. Look at how we're going to an
- 29:43eternal destination. We're going to eternity with our
- 29:46Father, and it is going to be peaceful and kind and beautiful
- 29:51and great and amazing. But look at all around us.
- 29:54This world is suffering, and it's feeling the groans and it's
- 29:59feeling the birth pains, and the contractions are getting closer
- 30:03and closer are together, and you can see the power of darkness.
- 30:07And this is their hour, and we must stand firm to the end,
- 30:11friends, and finish well. 54 Then took they him and led him
- 30:16and brought him into the high priest house, and Peter followed
- 30:21from afar off. Look at how Peter had lost his
- 30:25zeal. He had lost his bravado. 55 And
- 30:28when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were
- 30:31set down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 But a
- 30:35certain maid beheld as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked
- 30:40upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
- 30:43How did this little maid know? We can see that Peter is getting
- 30:52called out by this little maid. What does he say to her?
- 30:5957 He denied him, saying, Woman, I know I'm not 58.
- 31:04And after a little while another saw him and said, You are also
- 31:08of them, And Peter said, Man, I am not 59 in about the space of
- 31:13an hour after another confidently affirmed saying of a
- 31:18truth, this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilean.
- 31:26His speech betrayed him and he had an accent and you can see
- 31:37that Peter here does not want to be accounted with his master's
- 31:43misery. 60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what you say in
- 31:51immediately while he yet spoke the cock crew.
- 31:57We know that Peter here brings about some cursing upon his
- 32:06lips, and he is swearing and promising that he doesn't know
- 32:12our Lord. 61 And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter, and Peter
- 32:23remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him before
- 32:26the cock crows, You shall deny me three times.
- 32:30So here we can see as Jesus is being LED out of this illegal
- 32:40trial held by night, in the middle of the night, in the
- 32:43middle of the early morning hours before the sun would rise.
- 32:48We know that this was an illegal trial because everything was
- 32:51supposed to take place in the light of day, not at night.
- 32:55And we see here that Jesus is being LED out after being beaten
- 33:02and after being spat upon and after being found falsely
- 33:06accused. Here he looks at Peter, and
- 33:10Peter locks eyes with our Lord as he's being let out.
- 33:15He remembers the words 62 And Peter went out and wept
- 33:19bitterly. This is what happens when we
- 33:24turn our back on the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 33:27It brings about weeping and gnashing of teeth.
- 33:32It brings about this bitterness, friends.
- 33:35It brings about this crushing in our spirit, because we know that
- 33:43he is innocent, and we know that he is good, and we know that we
- 33:47have tried to save our skin, and we were cowards 63.
- 33:53And the man that held Jesus mocked him, and struck him. 64
- 33:58And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the
- 34:02face, and asked him, prophecy. Who is it that struck thee?
- 34:08How despicable they treat our Lord like this.
- 34:12This is God Incarnate, this is our Creator.
- 34:15And look at creation striking Him.
- 34:19And this is the hostility of mankind towards God on full
- 34:23display for us to see how we truly think about God.
- 34:28And it is only by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ that we can
- 34:32see our depravity and our full need for Him.
- 34:37Friends 65 and many other things blasphemously spoke they against
- 34:46him. 66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people
- 34:51and the chief priests and the scribes came together and led
- 34:54him into their counsel, saying, 67 Are you the Christ?
- 35:00Tell us? And he said unto them, If I tell
- 35:03you, you will not believe. So here they're trying to put
- 35:07together some kind of legal trial after they've already
- 35:12illegally arrested him, illegally found him worthy of
- 35:17death, illegally found a bunch of people to say all kinds of
- 35:22blasphemously things against him and illegally strike him,
- 35:27illegally put him on trial. And here they're trying to save
- 35:32face. They're trying to look as if
- 35:34he's guilty of something. And they don't even bring any
- 35:38witnesses against them because they know that none of their
- 35:41stories will corroborate. And it's a farce and it's a mock
- 35:46trial, and it is a trial that is not even worthy of any kind of
- 35:54legal depositions because it's all a big hoopla.
- 35:59And it's all put together just for Scripture to be fulfilled
- 36:09exactly the way that it was supposed to be fulfilled.
- 36:13And we need to know that it's all working out.
- 36:17Even the things that we don't understand today, it's all
- 36:20working out in accordance with Scripture.
- 36:23It's all prophetic. And God knows exactly what's
- 36:26happening right now. And this day and this hour,
- 36:29Friends, we just need to get in line with Jesus Christ.
- 36:38And he says, even if I tell you that if I'm the Christ, you
- 36:42won't believe it because you've already hardened your hearts.
- 36:45You've already made your love decision.
- 36:47You're already hostile towards God.
- 36:49And it's no different in our day, in our hour, when we
- 36:53present common sense to the people.
- 36:59They do not want to believe it because they've already made
- 37:03their love decision towards the devil and towards Satan and
- 37:07towards the darkness, friends. And they delighted in evil and
- 37:12they refused to love the truth. And they are delusional,
- 37:17friends. That's what this is.
- 37:20These people here at the Sanhedrin are delusional, and
- 37:27Jesus Christ knows it. 68 And if I also ask you, you will not
- 37:35answer me, nor let me go. He already knows their
- 37:38delusional. 69 Hereafter shall the Son of Man sit on the right
- 37:45hand of the power of God, that is the power of God.
- 37:49His right hand in Jesus Christ is connected, and it was well
- 37:55pleasing to the Father to crush him, to bruise him, and it was
- 38:00for you, and it was for me. 70 And they and then said, They all
- 38:06are you, then the Son of God, and he said unto them, you say
- 38:12that I am the great. I am right here on display.
- 38:18God Incarnate, God in the flesh, friends, and look how delusional
- 38:25they are. 71 and they said, what need we any further witness for?
- 38:33We ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
- 38:39Think about it. It's no different right now.
- 38:47It's no different in our day. It's no different right this
- 38:50very second friends. There are so many who love
- 38:55wickedness. They are attracted to evil like
- 38:59a moth to the flame. And those of us who have been
- 39:06with him and are shining bright, we look around and we see it
- 39:13all, and we can't believe that they can't see it.
- 39:15But just remember, this is the way of God.
- 39:21He hides it from those who refuse Him.
- 39:26But for those of us who walk in the light, we will not satisfy
- 39:30the lust of the flesh. Friends, we will please the
- 39:35Father, and we will be found when He comes back.
- 39:39We will be found engaged in the serving, in the ministry, and in
- 39:47the work that He has for us. We'll keep our lamps full, our
- 39:53Wicks trimmed, and He'll invite us in to the marriage supper of
- 40:01the Lamb. Praise God.
- 40:05Praise God that we know Him, and we can know Him, and we're known
- 40:09by Him. Praise God, I hope you've been
- 40:14blessed by this chapter. I know I sure have, many times
- 40:22over. What a amazing story.
- 40:26This is the hinge point of the entire Bible.
- 40:31This is the hinge point of all of creation.
- 40:37There's a lot more to be said, and if all the things that the
- 40:40Lord did while He was here were written about, there was not be
- 40:45enough libraries to contain them.
- 40:50There's a lot more to be said friends, but suffice to say,
- 40:53Jesus is Lord. Jesus is enough, and He is the
- 41:00name above all names. Bring that name upon your lips
- 41:04today and be saved. All who call upon the name of
- 41:08the Lord shall be saved. And if you believe that Jesus
- 41:14raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.
- 41:17Friends, call upon that name today and be saved.
- 41:22He is salvation. Jesus is salvation.
- 41:25Get connected to the vine and bear much fruit.
- 41:32I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 41:37I love you. We'll see you back here
- 41:40tomorrow. God bless you.
