- 0:09Speaker 1: It is great to see Willie Colon, and he is
- 0:11Speaker 1: a busy man. New podcast, The Barton Willie Show. You
- 0:14Speaker 1: can find it on Apple or YouTube. Good Morning Football
- 0:18Speaker 1: on ESPN, Steelers Radio Daily, 12 to 2 on iHeart, SNY,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Jets pre- and post-game show. Willie, why are you doing
- 0:24Speaker 1: so much, man? What's going on with you?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Because my wife's expensive and my kids and my damn
- 0:30Speaker 2: kids are expensive. And you would think after having a
- 0:33Speaker 2: long NFL career, being a Super Bowl champ. and acquired
- 0:38Speaker 2: enough money to make an honest living for the rest
- 0:41Speaker 2: of my life, you'd think that would be enough. My
- 0:43Speaker 2: kids need the Wi-Fi. My wife likes restaurants. And so
- 0:48Speaker 2: I continue to be overweight and work for the man.
- 0:51Speaker 1: So there's never enough is what you're saying, huh?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Never enough, dog. Never.
- 0:57Speaker 1: How'd you start the show with Bart? How did this
- 0:58Speaker 1: show come together? I'm excited to hear it.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Well, Bart got his ass fired, so he needed to
- 1:04Speaker 2: do it. No, no. Well, I mean, he did. You're right. Yes,
- 1:10Speaker 2: he did. Right. He did. I've been fired, so I
- 1:13Speaker 2: can't throw rocks. With all that said, no, we have
- 1:16Speaker 2: been thinking about this for some time. The timing just
- 1:19Speaker 2: was never right. We were we were kind of stewing.
- 1:22Speaker 2: And actually, before we got the call from Playmaker to
- 1:26Speaker 2: eventually do this, we me and him was kind of
- 1:30Speaker 2: in the lab and working on something ourselves. It just
- 1:33Speaker 2: so happened that Bart had got a call from Playmaker.
- 1:36Speaker 2: He told them, hey, man, if I do this, I
- 1:38Speaker 2: want to do it with Willie. He's my guy. We've
- 1:40Speaker 2: been wanting to kind of do this together for a while.
- 1:42Speaker 2: They said, no problem. Let's get it going. And, you know,
- 1:45Speaker 2: right in the mix of that, Bart got let go.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So it kind of is by God's grace and timing
- 1:50Speaker 2: that we, you know, he stumbled out of one and
- 1:52Speaker 2: fell into another one. And here we are trying to
- 1:54Speaker 2: make magic for Playmaker. So shout out to them.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Willie, as a New Yorker and somebody who later went
- 2:00Speaker 3: on to play for the Jets, you've seen how much
- 2:02Speaker 3: the Jets mean to that market. Do they finally have
- 2:05Speaker 3: a team that's competent? Because I feel like competent has
- 2:08Speaker 3: been the key word when it comes to this Jets team.
- 2:10Speaker 2: We'll take competent. I'm good with that. Competent is the
- 2:15Speaker 2: right word because they were just so bad last year, right?
- 2:17Speaker 2: Going 3-14, they just didn't look like a competent team.
- 2:21Speaker 2: And it started at the quarterback position. You know, Aaron Glenn...
- 2:24Speaker 2: stepped into that market ballot. He had played for it,
- 2:27Speaker 2: scouted for it, and obviously went to, you know, coached
- 2:31Speaker 2: for a couple other organizations. But when he came back, man,
- 2:34Speaker 2: he had sold the Jet fan base that this was
- 2:37Speaker 2: going to be a rough, tough, physical, you know, you're
- 2:41Speaker 2: going to be proud of the product on the field.
- 2:43Speaker 2: That's what he kept saying. So week one against the Steelers,
- 2:46Speaker 2: you watch that game, man. The Jets up front beat
- 2:48Speaker 2: the hell out of the Steelers, right? It was a
- 2:50Speaker 2: special team's mishaps that gave Aaron Rodgers back the ball
- 2:54Speaker 2: in the red zone. Aaron Rodgers does what Aaron Rodgers does, scores,
- 2:57Speaker 2: and the Steelers escape out of that building with a touchdown.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But what happened after that, you saw an avalanche. You
- 3:05Speaker 2: saw a snowball of the team just pretty much implode.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And they let go of Saltz Gardner. Quentin Williams goes
- 3:11Speaker 2: to the Cowboys. And a lot of people was like, well,
- 3:14Speaker 2: these guys aren't even competent. They're not even competing. People
- 3:16Speaker 2: got to remember– That roster, what we saw towards the
- 3:19Speaker 2: middle of the season, towards the back half, you're dealing
- 3:22Speaker 2: with C-level ballplayers, right? You're dealing with guys who were
- 3:24Speaker 2: on the practice squad. And so they couldn't compete. It
- 3:27Speaker 2: didn't matter what the outfit looked like. With all that said,
- 3:30Speaker 2: I think Aaron Rodgers was, excuse me, not Aaron Rodgers,
- 3:33Speaker 2: Aaron Glenn was conscious and really, really had a man
- 3:38Speaker 2: in the mirror moment where he said, This is my defense.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I'm going to call the defense. If I'm going to
- 3:43Speaker 2: go down, right, if I'm going to get, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 2: exited out the building for whatever reason, I want to
- 3:49Speaker 2: do it on my terms, and I want to give
- 3:50Speaker 2: it an honest shot. So I think him calling this defense,
- 3:53Speaker 2: him getting Frank Wright, who a lot of people respect
- 3:56Speaker 2: in the business, them going out and getting Geno with
- 3:57Speaker 2: a host of other veterans, this group needed to grow
- 4:02Speaker 2: up from inside the locker room and out, and I
- 4:04Speaker 2: think that's kind of the campaign right now for the
- 4:06Speaker 2: New York Jets. They want to be adults on and
- 4:08Speaker 2: off the field.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Willie, as a former Jets offensive lineman, I got to
- 4:12Speaker 4: ask you about another former Jets offensive lineman, Elijah Vera
- 4:15Speaker 4: Tucker's comments where he said that the locker room, the
- 4:18Speaker 4: Jets organization is accustomed to losing. What are your thoughts
- 4:22Speaker 4: on what he had to say now playing for the Patriots?
- 4:25Speaker 2: You know, it's weird because I kind of felt the
- 4:28Speaker 2: same way when I got to the Jets in 2013.
- 4:31Speaker 2: They had lost to my Steelers a year prior to that.
- 4:35Speaker 2: in the AFC Championship game. And when 2013 came around,
- 4:39Speaker 2: which was Geno's first year, his rookie year, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 2: when I got there, the locker room was kind of
- 4:44Speaker 2: going through this identity crisis. And they, all the guys
- 4:49Speaker 2: who were left in that locker room could talk about
- 4:50Speaker 2: the yesteryears. You know, Alan Fanico was gone. Darrell Revis
- 4:54Speaker 2: was now a buck at the time, right? You know,
- 4:57Speaker 2: Jason Taylor was now retired. Bart Scott was now retired.
- 4:59Speaker 2: So many of those guys, those pillars in our locker
- 5:01Speaker 2: room were out. When I got to the Jets in 2013,
- 5:06Speaker 2: we were the second youngest team in the league. And
- 5:09Speaker 2: those young guys didn't have older guys to lean on,
- 5:12Speaker 2: at least not enough of us, right? Because I was
- 5:14Speaker 2: an implant just like them. The guys that were left
- 5:16Speaker 2: in the locker room were Nick Mangold, Richard Shaw Ferguson,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and David Harris, and Mo Wilkerson and a couple of
- 5:23Speaker 2: other guys. Needless to say, a lot of those young
- 5:26Speaker 2: guys didn't know what the Jets' culture was, right, because
- 5:29Speaker 2: they weren't around for it. And the older guys that
- 5:31Speaker 2: were there were kind of on the back nine and
- 5:34Speaker 2: necessarily not vocal leaders. So if you have older guys
- 5:38Speaker 2: not willing to show or talk about what made those
- 5:41Speaker 2: teams in the past great, but yet the younger guys
- 5:43Speaker 2: step into that role not knowing what to expect because
- 5:46Speaker 2: they're younger themselves and they're trying to learn what it
- 5:48Speaker 2: is to be a Jet, there's no middle class now
- 5:51Speaker 2: in the locker room. And so– It took all the
- 5:55Speaker 2: way to 2015 when Fitzpatrick and Brandon Marshall and some
- 5:58Speaker 2: of the guys that were now old enough two or
- 6:00Speaker 2: three years in their career to kind of say, oh,
- 6:01Speaker 2: this is what it means to be a pro. This
- 6:03Speaker 2: is what Jets culture is. This is how to survive
- 6:05Speaker 2: the media market. Oh, this is what's expected of me.
- 6:08Speaker 2: And then we lose, right, in that year because that
- 6:11Speaker 2: was technically the only successful year the Jets had was
- 6:13Speaker 2: in 2015. And then you start to see all the
- 6:15Speaker 2: turmoil again. What you have is a group of guys who, one,
- 6:19Speaker 2: go rogue. Two, don't understand what it is to be
- 6:22Speaker 2: a Jet within the Jets culture. And three, there's so
- 6:26Speaker 2: much instability from over your head into the locker room.
- 6:29Speaker 2: You say, hey, man, I'm just here to do my time. Right.
- 6:32Speaker 2: And so I can understand why he said that. Because
- 6:35Speaker 2: when you step into other organizations like the Steelers, where
- 6:38Speaker 2: from the door is preaching about his football first family history.
- 6:42Speaker 2: And then we go kick ass, right? You step into
- 6:45Speaker 2: New England, there's a mold, there's a model of what
- 6:47Speaker 2: it means to be a Patriot. Seattle, same thing. So
- 6:49Speaker 2: you have, there's, I guess, an oracle or a Bible
- 6:53Speaker 2: of what it means to be a part of certain organizations.
- 6:56Speaker 2: The Jets don't have that. And to be honest with you,
- 6:58Speaker 2: winning's the ultimate deodorant. Everybody goes through their ish, if
- 7:01Speaker 2: you will. But when you win, you get to kind
- 7:03Speaker 2: of mask that up because, oh, we won, despite of
- 7:06Speaker 2: what we look like in and out of the locker room.
- 7:07Speaker 2: It seems like prison, being a Jet. It does. You're
- 7:10Speaker 2: doing your time. Yeah. It does, right?
- 7:13Speaker 1: Especially when you come from an organization like the one
- 7:15Speaker 1: you played for before you got to the Jets. You're
- 7:18Speaker 1: just trying to get through it, right?
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, because you're trying to get through it because nobody
- 7:23Speaker 2: else believes, right? And so now you're trying to get
- 7:25Speaker 2: everybody in the locker room to believe in one goal.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And I do think, you know, to be respectful to
- 7:30Speaker 2: this team, I think because they do have Demario Davis
- 7:33Speaker 2: and Mink and Fitzpatrick and some of these other guys,
- 7:35Speaker 2: they have a really good offensive line. These guys are
- 7:38Speaker 2: starting to believe in the campaign. And I say this,
- 7:41Speaker 2: I had an opportunity to speak to the team in
- 7:42Speaker 2: the summer and I had an opportunity to talk to
- 7:45Speaker 2: him about media relations and all this other stuff. But
- 7:47Speaker 2: that aside, man. there there's a clear understanding nothing matters
- 7:52Speaker 2: unless they win right it doesn't matter what they say
- 7:55Speaker 2: or what what they do or what they put out
- 7:57Speaker 2: to be viral and then they have to win football
- 8:00Speaker 2: games and they have to have play this season can't
- 8:02Speaker 2: be over by halloween right they have to play be
- 8:05Speaker 2: willing to play meaningful games in december and hopefully add
- 8:07Speaker 2: a chance a shot at the table come playoff time
- 8:10Speaker 2: so uh see that the table come playoff time excuse
- 8:12Speaker 2: me so it's um they seem like a lot more
- 8:15Speaker 2: serious football team from the guys I've talked to. There's
- 8:18Speaker 2: a level like, no, we're not enough with the BS.
- 8:20Speaker 2: We got to show up.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Willie, if I told you in 2013 that in 2026,
- 8:25Speaker 3: Geno Smith and Demario Davis would be captains for the
- 8:29Speaker 3: Jets and winning in week one, how many Super Bowls
- 8:32Speaker 3: would you imagine the Jets won during that stretch?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Man, I don't know how to process that. So I
- 8:43Speaker 2: know DeMar really well. And I've gotten to know him
- 8:46Speaker 2: and his family really well. His wife and my wife.
- 8:48Speaker 2: My wife's from Jackson, Mississippi, and they're from Mississippi. So
- 8:52Speaker 2: we're family at this point. Gino, I had an opportunity
- 8:55Speaker 2: to speak briefly with when I was visiting the Jets.
- 8:57Speaker 2: And they collectively, between the both of them, understand like
- 9:01Speaker 2: they're just they don't want they want if both of
- 9:04Speaker 2: them along the two from a career standpoint.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:06Speaker 2: If they were to write the end of the chapter
- 9:08Speaker 2: and to be in New York, they want it to
- 9:10Speaker 2: be a positive one. So collectively, I think they both
- 9:12Speaker 2: have an understanding, man, what was, what was behind us
- 9:15Speaker 2: is behind us. They want to move forward. And so
- 9:18Speaker 2: to have them back in the building, building is huge,
- 9:20Speaker 2: especially for Aaron Glenn, because I think if you want
- 9:22Speaker 2: to get veterans back in the building, they're, they're ambassadors
- 9:26Speaker 2: of you. Yes. Right. And so they have to believe
- 9:29Speaker 2: what comes out of your mouth so they can tell
- 9:30Speaker 2: the rest of the locker room, like, nah, he's good. Let's, let's,
- 9:32Speaker 2: let's listen. And so it was important. And, it's it's
- 9:36Speaker 2: just i think it's just relative i think it's relative
- 9:38Speaker 2: to where the jets are right now i think so
- 9:40Speaker 2: many people are just ready to dump the past and
- 9:42Speaker 2: take on the new um and aaron glenn is trying
- 9:45Speaker 2: to usher this team in that direction but you need
- 9:48Speaker 2: veteran guys to kind of campaign your message and he hasn't.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Uh willie i am not here to piss you off
- 9:53Speaker 1: okay and i will say this.
- 9:54Speaker 2: On the front no no there's no reason to i
- 9:56Speaker 2: didn't have lunch.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yet no i'm sorry i'm sorry i've already pissed you
- 9:59Speaker 1: off i even asked the question yet i'm just saying
- 10:01Speaker 1: on the front end i don't want to piss you
- 10:02Speaker 1: off because you're a big man and i'm terrified of
- 10:04Speaker 1: you um so this is what i'm gonna ask you
- 10:07Speaker 1: i am a man who picked the jets and the
- 10:09Speaker 1: bears to make it to the super bowl just a
- 10:12Speaker 1: couple of years ago me and mikey were out in
- 10:14Speaker 1: arrowhead stadium i had to make pre-season predictions and I
- 10:17Speaker 1: want Jets and Bears to make it to the Super Bowl.
- 10:22Speaker 1: With that as the backdrop, how do you feel about
- 10:25Speaker 1: this year's Super Bowl prediction by you of the Chargers
- 10:28Speaker 1: and the Cowboys?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Cocaine's a hell of a drug, huh? Man, I was
- 10:38Speaker 2: so disappointed, dog. I was so disappointed in the damn
- 10:44Speaker 2: Cowboys and Chargers game. I can't even process. So for
- 10:49Speaker 2: the Chargers, I was hella disappointed in their play style.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I felt they were just going to be the more explosive,
- 10:56Speaker 2: way more explosive than what they put on tape. And defensively,
- 10:59Speaker 2: I just thought they were going to be way more dominant.
- 11:02Speaker 2: That didn't happen. I'm more upset with the Cowboys because
- 11:05Speaker 2: I genuinely believed in my heart that Christian Parker, the
- 11:10Speaker 2: new defensive coordinator for the Cowboys, was we were going
- 11:13Speaker 2: to see a different brand of Cowboys. I just believed it.
- 11:16Speaker 2: You can't tell me any different. I just felt like Valley,
- 11:19Speaker 2: they didn't acquire a lot of superstars in free agency,
- 11:21Speaker 2: but they got a lot of guys who played a
- 11:23Speaker 2: lot of football and who were relevant. Man, the Cowboys
- 11:27Speaker 2: are in trouble defensively. I'm more worried about the Cowboys
- 11:29Speaker 2: than I am the Chargers because what we saw from
- 11:32Speaker 2: the Cowboys on Sunday looked nothing different from what we
- 11:35Speaker 2: saw last year. And that was a defense that gave
- 11:37Speaker 2: up 30 points. There was miscommunication on the back end.
- 11:40Speaker 2: They got bullied at the line of scrimmage. They couldn't
- 11:42Speaker 2: get to Justin Dart to save their life. And schematically,
- 11:46Speaker 2: when you run the 3-4, one of the hardest things
- 11:48Speaker 2: about running the 3-4 is marrying the front end with
- 11:51Speaker 2: the back end. There was a complete disconnect. I mean,
- 11:54Speaker 2: the fact that he continued to allow the Giants to
- 11:55Speaker 2: throw the ball into the flat and nickel and dime
- 11:58Speaker 2: them was absolutely baffling to me. It was just because
- 12:01Speaker 2: they try to play cloud coverage and they try to
- 12:03Speaker 2: do different things, and it just wasn't mirrored. So... With
- 12:06Speaker 2: all that said, I think for the Cowboys, man, in
- 12:11Speaker 2: which they got out-schemed and out-physicaled, I'm more worried about
- 12:15Speaker 2: them because I just believe the offense will be elite.
- 12:19Speaker 2: They're going to outscore everybody, but the defense just had
- 12:21Speaker 2: to be good enough, and they're going to walk out
- 12:23Speaker 2: the building with enough Ws. That did not happen. And
- 12:27Speaker 2: so I'm more worried. The Chargers, I think they will
- 12:29Speaker 2: figure it out. I think they just had to drink
- 12:31Speaker 2: a little humble juice. Obviously, they did so. But the Cowboys,
- 12:35Speaker 2: I'm more worried about.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Bills-Lions tonight, that's a great game for the first Thursday
- 12:40Speaker 1: night game of the season. It feels like this game
- 12:42Speaker 1: should be played in December. It's being played tonight. What
- 12:44Speaker 1: are your thoughts on tonight's game?
- 12:46Speaker 2: It comes down to what defense decides to show up.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I think we know both offenses could run, I mean,
- 12:53Speaker 2: could go, excuse me. But I think it comes down
- 12:55Speaker 2: to You know, when it comes down to Detroit, they
- 12:59Speaker 2: let up, I think, 400-something yards, right? It was something
- 13:02Speaker 2: crazy like that. I could be wrong. I apologize. And
- 13:05Speaker 2: they wasn't stout in the red zone as well. I
- 13:08Speaker 2: think for the Buffalo Bills, I think they were able
- 13:11Speaker 2: to subdue some of Houston's run game. They got lit up, too.
- 13:16Speaker 2: So I think it comes down to what defense right
- 13:18Speaker 2: now shows up. I'm not worried about offensively. Josh Allen's
- 13:21Speaker 2: an alien. I mean, what he did last Sunday, forget
- 13:24Speaker 2: about it. I mean, it's just– It was one of
- 13:25Speaker 2: them kind of Jordan 55-type games that I think we
- 13:28Speaker 2: all witnessed it. Yes. But I think from a Detroit–
- 13:32Speaker 2: you know, the ball goes to Jamer Gibbs. Bottom line,
- 13:35Speaker 2: if you stop him, you pretty much split their offense
- 13:38Speaker 2: in half. So that's going to be a big task
- 13:39Speaker 2: for the Buffalo Bills. But collectively, I think what defense
- 13:43Speaker 2: shows up in the situation of football, because that's key.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I think both– when you talk about what you expect,
- 13:49Speaker 2: I think if you're the Buffalo Bills, your ability to
- 13:53Speaker 2: get to the quarterback is going to be key. And
- 13:56Speaker 2: I think if you're the Lions defense right now, and
- 13:59Speaker 2: I hate to say this, DJ Reed is a liability.
- 14:01Speaker 2: And as a guy who loved DJ Reed as a Jet,
- 14:05Speaker 2: because I thought he was scrappy, I think he was
- 14:07Speaker 2: the better corner than Sauce Garner at the time, what
- 14:10Speaker 2: he did against Chris Olave can't happen. Like, he just
- 14:14Speaker 2: didn't play well. And Chris Olave had a day against him. So...
- 14:17Speaker 2: That's kind of my eye in the sky type thing.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Willie, outside of my family, I love the New York
- 14:24Speaker 3: Yankees more than anything in this world. Before this season,
- 14:28Speaker 3: I said I wouldn't trade Cam Schlittler for Paul Skeens,
- 14:30Speaker 3: and one of the people that laughed at me was
- 14:31Speaker 3: Michael Kay. So now people are considering me the voice
- 14:34Speaker 3: of the Yankees.
- 14:34Speaker 2: We all laughed at you. I mean, in fairness to Michael,
- 14:37Speaker 2: I did. Yes. Everybody. I saw Paul. I'll tell you that.
- 14:43Speaker 2: So I would have laughed too.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Would you still be laughing though? Because it appears that
- 14:48Speaker 1: he was right. Taylor's right.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I mean, no, he's definitely right. I'm just saying I
- 14:52Speaker 2: would have been with the other guys laughing as well.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Where's your level of confidence with this Yankee team entering
- 14:58Speaker 3: the post season?
- 15:02Speaker 2: Uh, So, listen, I think it comes down to Judge,
- 15:06Speaker 2: bottom line. I think since he's been back, there's been
- 15:08Speaker 2: a momentum. There's a surgence now, I think, with his
- 15:11Speaker 2: ability to– I think it's the lineup. I know a
- 15:16Speaker 2: lot of people are talking about Volpe. I don't know if–
- 15:19Speaker 2: you can answer this too. Maybe you can help me
- 15:21Speaker 2: because it seems like you're more in the weeds than
- 15:22Speaker 2: I am. Volpe being back and having production and being efficient,
- 15:26Speaker 2: I'm like good for the kid because I was worried–
- 15:29Speaker 2: I was worried about this kid never playing baseball again
- 15:31Speaker 2: once he got put down. You know what I mean?
- 15:33Speaker 2: Because being a kid from New York, his first-round draft pick,
- 15:36Speaker 2: had his struggles, and I have an opportunity. I jump
- 15:40Speaker 2: on a fan, and obviously, like you guys, I talk
- 15:43Speaker 2: to the callers, and everybody's like, da-da-da-da. And then once
- 15:45Speaker 2: we got George Lombardo Jr., I was like, Volpe's done.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I think this guy may be working at Chick-fil-A. I
- 15:52Speaker 2: was worried about that. Then he comes back to New York,
- 15:54Speaker 2: and the tandem between them two, I love it. So...
- 15:59Speaker 2: All in all, man, I was worried about Volpe, and
- 16:01Speaker 2: I was worried about his mental state, and I don't
- 16:03Speaker 2: know why. I'm not his dad. But I thought it
- 16:06Speaker 2: was a lot from the New York market. Needless to say,
- 16:08Speaker 2: try not to be all over the place. I think
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yankees will be fine, man. I think it just comes
- 16:13Speaker 2: down to the batting judge and how consistent he can be.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I think part of it with Volpe is almost that
- 16:17Speaker 3: second chance where he probably had the same thoughts as you. Like,
- 16:21Speaker 3: I might never get a chance to be back in
- 16:22Speaker 3: the MLB again. And then a couple of weeks later,
- 16:24Speaker 3: he's back and now he's kind of capitalizing on that opportunity.
- 16:28Speaker 2: That grand slam he hit the other night, I almost
- 16:30Speaker 2: choked up and I was like giving my kid a
- 16:32Speaker 2: Capri Sun in the process. My dad, I played in
- 16:38Speaker 2: this market, you know what I mean? I just know
- 16:39Speaker 2: how hard it is, especially when, and like, so you
- 16:43Speaker 2: guys are privy to, I remember what happened to, I
- 16:45Speaker 2: remember how bad, and I'm just pointing out guys who
- 16:47Speaker 2: got destroyed by the media in the last 10 years.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Like I remember how bad this media dragged Eric Flowers
- 16:51Speaker 2: for the Giants. I remember how bad they dragged Evan Neal. Like,
- 16:56Speaker 2: I've just seen somehow the New York market is already, like,
- 16:59Speaker 2: it's daunted, it's hard. But once in a while, they
- 17:01Speaker 2: just pick one guy, and they're like, we're going to
- 17:04Speaker 2: absolutely tear your head off. And they kind of show
- 17:07Speaker 2: the rest of the world, this is what we do
- 17:08Speaker 2: to our athletes. And I felt like that's what they
- 17:10Speaker 2: were doing to Anthony Volpe. And so I'll just, you know,
- 17:13Speaker 2: me jumping on the fence. Sometimes I would just hear
- 17:15Speaker 2: these calls, man. I just like, good God, I'm so
- 17:17Speaker 2: happy I retired. I would have went looking for somebody
- 17:19Speaker 2: to do it. Right.
- 17:23Speaker 1: And this is a fan base who has won more
- 17:25Speaker 1: World Series than any.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Fan base in baseball. Look at them. The Yankees are
- 17:30Speaker 2: in the playoffs with it. Nine out of 10 years. Like,
- 17:33Speaker 2: what are we doing right now? But they talk about
- 17:35Speaker 2: the Yankees as if, like, they're the most cancerous. It
- 17:39Speaker 2: baffles me. Like, we're in the World Series. We lost,
- 17:41Speaker 2: but we're in the World Series.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Willie, the most sad I've ever been is when they
- 17:45Speaker 3: were questioning Joey Gallo about his struggles in the Bronx.
- 17:49Speaker 3: And then when Joey Gallo, they were like, how do
- 17:51Speaker 3: you handle going outside? Joey Gallo was like, I just don't.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yeah. But, you know, but bro, you say that and
- 17:59Speaker 2: people think you're like, oh, you're just being funny or
- 18:02Speaker 2: like you just kind of like that's real. Like I
- 18:04Speaker 2: even even my time as a jet and I was homegrown.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I'm a Bronx kid. I grew up in the New
- 18:10Speaker 2: York market. I grew up reading the daily news. I
- 18:12Speaker 2: grew up listening to Mad Dog, you know, Mike and
- 18:13Speaker 2: the Mad Dog, all that stuff. And me as a jet.
- 18:17Speaker 2: And I would go to clubs and restaurants. I would
- 18:20Speaker 2: always get a tap on the shoulder from one dying
- 18:23Speaker 2: Jets fan. Willie, what are we doing? I'm like, man,
- 18:26Speaker 2: I'm just trying to get through the mashed potatoes. I
- 18:27Speaker 2: don't know, dog. I'm out here trying to play. You
- 18:30Speaker 2: know what I mean? But no matter where I stepped outside,
- 18:34Speaker 2: whatever borough I was in, I always got a tap
- 18:36Speaker 2: on the shoulder. It was either about what's going on
- 18:38Speaker 2: with Rex? Who is it? Why is he here? It
- 18:41Speaker 2: was just a barrage of, so after a while, you're like, dude,
- 18:44Speaker 2: I'm just going to Uber Eats it. I'm going to
- 18:46Speaker 2: stay in today.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Willie, we'll let you go in just a second. This
- 18:49Speaker 1: has been great. I would like to offer you a
- 18:51Speaker 1: job as our Bronx correspondent. Add another job to your
- 18:55Speaker 1: resume here. You and Taylor can do a Yankee podcast.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Are you in?
- 18:58Speaker 1: Can you be our Yankee correspondent here?
- 19:01Speaker 2: The more you can do. I'm with it. Sign me up. Done. Yes.
- 19:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 19:05Speaker 3: We just signed Willie Colon.
- 19:06Speaker 1: What an exciting day for us. Hopefully he'll have time
- 19:11Speaker 1: to do it. He's a busy man. Check out the
- 19:13Speaker 1: new podcast, The Barton Willie Show. You can find it
- 19:15Speaker 1: on Apple or YouTube. You want to promote that? Tell
- 19:17Speaker 1: people what they can expect, Willie.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Man, so me and the great, the loud mouth, Mr.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Can't Wait Bart Scott have decided to do a podcast
- 19:25Speaker 2: talking everything underneath the sun in regards to sports. But
- 19:28Speaker 2: we also want to show the human aspect. We're both dads. Now,
- 19:31Speaker 2: Bart's in the streets, in them sheets. I'm a happily
- 19:34Speaker 2: married man. So that's where we separate. But we're both dads.
- 19:37Speaker 2: We're both into the culture. And we want to share
- 19:40Speaker 2: our personality and perspectives about what we feel about sports
- 19:43Speaker 2: and life and everything. And we're excited to do so.
- 19:46Speaker 2: So once again, thank you to the good people at Playmaker.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Shout-out to our producer, Mark Seaman. We call him Mark Nutter. So,
- 19:52Speaker 2: we're doing it, man. We're excited for the opportunity. All right.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Mondays and Fridays, check us out. All right.
- 19:57Speaker 1: And, again, it's on Apple or YouTube. Also, Good Morning
- 20:00Speaker 1: Football on ESPN, Steelers Radio 12 to 2 on iHeart, SMY,
- 20:03Speaker 1: Jets pre- and post-game show, and now a new Yankee
- 20:05Speaker 1: podcast with Taylor. Willie Colon, we appreciate it, my friend.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Thank you for joining us, sir. Respect, bro. Thank you
- 20:12Speaker 2: guys for the opportunity. All right, man. Thank you.
