- 0:00Speaker 1: I had tacos last night. Actually you cheated, Greg, I did.
- 0:02Speaker 1: I didn't even think about the tree.
- 0:04Speaker 2: You were like, I want tacos. I did.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's the on East Lake. I went to the Why
- 0:09Speaker 1: am I forgetting the name of it water cantina? Why
- 0:14Speaker 1: am I forgetting the name of the cantina on East Lake?
- 0:17Speaker 1: Been there fifty times? My wife and I rode our
- 0:20Speaker 1: bikes to the place. It overlooks the eastern edge of
- 0:24Speaker 1: Lake Union. It was a beautiful, beautiful night to do
- 0:26Speaker 1: that last night. Why am I forgetting the name of
- 0:28Speaker 1: the cantina in East Lake? I've been there a hundred times. Anyway,
- 0:32Speaker 1: we did that, But what a reason? I said, It's
- 0:34Speaker 1: good to see Chris again. I was like Jimmy's on
- 0:36Speaker 1: first yesterday, right across the street from Lumenfield. And then
- 0:39Speaker 1: went into the match. And I'll talk to you about
- 0:43Speaker 1: I know it. There are some of you, many of
- 0:45Speaker 1: you who got there going soccer sucks. So because you
- 0:47Speaker 1: don't like soccer, you think soccer must suck as an
- 0:50Speaker 1: entire sport. I wish all of you who'd just say
- 0:53Speaker 1: it soccer sucks while are you talking about it would
- 0:56Speaker 1: have been in the yard and around the stadium yesterday.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Because soccer is so much more than the game itself.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I'll talk about that. It's just different.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It is so different than the NFL that I covered
- 1:09Speaker 1: every day for the last twenty years. But there was
- 1:12Speaker 1: a real appreciation for the culture of the sport of
- 1:16Speaker 1: soccer and the nationalism and the everyone is everyone is,
- 1:22Speaker 1: you're okay, I'm okay type of vibe around to soccer event,
- 1:25Speaker 1: a World Cup event.
- 1:26Speaker 2: We got that yesterday in Seattle.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It was one of the better Seattle sports days I've
- 1:30Speaker 1: ever covered, and I've been here since nineteen ninety three.
- 1:33Speaker 1: We'll talk about the Mariners in Andre's munhos in particularly,
- 1:37Speaker 1: he's injured nout too with back Titaness.
- 1:39Speaker 2: What you did with him, talk about Kyle Raley.
- 1:42Speaker 1: We talking about JP Crawford Brendan Soresby case at Texas Tech.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Texas Tech is now chasing away their five million dollar
- 1:51Speaker 1: nil quarterback amid pressure from pretty much every college entity
- 1:56Speaker 1: everywhere except in Lubbock, Texas. We'll explain how it became
- 2:00Speaker 1: that he's not playing college football a week after a
- 2:02Speaker 1: judge that he could despite an NCAAA investigation.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And we'll talk about this NFL Supplemental Draft. What is it?
- 2:09Speaker 2: A lot of people don't even know.
- 2:10Speaker 1: What exists because it doesn't always happen. They haven't had
- 2:12Speaker 1: one in the NFL since twenty twenty three. I'll describe
- 2:14Speaker 1: how it works. How it works is the Seahawks even
- 2:17Speaker 1: have a chance to draft Brendan Swords. But I'll explain that,
- 2:20Speaker 1: not that they're going to, not that they'd want to,
- 2:23Speaker 1: not that they should. We'll talk about that too. At
- 2:25Speaker 1: eleven o'clock, I have a keyword for you to enter
- 2:27Speaker 1: with their chance to win twenty five hundred dollars in
- 2:29Speaker 1: a national two to fifty k USA giveaway contest that
- 2:33Speaker 1: we do every day.
- 2:34Speaker 2: At eleven o'clock, we're.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Also going to start our Major Golf Challenge US Open. Addition,
- 2:39Speaker 1: the US Open begins at Shenacock Hills on the east
- 2:42Speaker 1: side of Long Island, New York, on Thursday, which means
- 2:46Speaker 1: that our contest is on right now.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Go to nine three to three kjar dot.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Com, where nine through three will bring you the Major
- 2:54Speaker 1: Golf Challenge US Open Edition Power at PNW Golf Academy,

- 3:00Speaker 2: You go to nine three three KJR dot com.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Select a golfer in each of the group you until
- 3:04Speaker 1: you have predicted the top performer in all nine groupings

- 3:09Speaker 2: What do you win?
- 3:10Speaker 1: PNW Golf Academy, two hour full game assessment, two month

- 3:22Speaker 1: morning because that's when the tournament starts. So what is
- 3:26Speaker 1: that to today's the sixteenth. The tournament ends the morning
- 3:29Speaker 1: of the eighteenth on Thursday. Because the tournament begins, the
- 3:31Speaker 1: US Open begins at Chinnegark Kills on Thursday morning. Major
- 3:34Speaker 1: Golf Challenge US Open Edition. Go to nine three to
- 3:37Speaker 1: three kjar dot com for your chance to enter first
- 3:42Speaker 1: ever World Cup match. Chris in Seattle, I wish you
- 3:46Speaker 1: were there. I mean, for a Seattle guy from oday
- 3:48Speaker 1: who grew up here and knows sports like you do.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I'm fortunate. I'm the only one at.
- 3:54Speaker 1: KJR who has a credential and accreditation from FIFA to
- 3:56Speaker 1: get into the park. And it was a scene.
- 4:00Speaker 2: There were maybe one hundred feet well.
- 4:03Speaker 1: The official attendance was one hundred and fifty people less
- 4:06Speaker 1: than the stated capacity for the World Cup sixty six thousand,
- 4:09Speaker 1: seven hundred and seventy five in the house yesterday on
- 4:13Speaker 1: a Monday afternoon, on a noon start, and they.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Started before eight o'clock.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I walked past the Victory Hall in the Hatback bar
- 4:20Speaker 1: there on First Avenue south right across the street from
- 4:23Speaker 1: the Mariners Park t Mobile Park, and the Belgians are
- 4:27Speaker 1: already partying. The music was blaring or drinking beer at
- 4:30Speaker 1: like seven to fifty five am, as Seattle police were
- 4:33Speaker 1: just putting up barricades along fifth first Avenue South.
- 4:37Speaker 2: How this world?
- 4:37Speaker 1: But if you're driving around Seattle, how this works is
- 4:40Speaker 1: we got five more of these World Cup matches. The
- 4:43Speaker 1: road First Avenue closes at Edgar Martinez Drive, right where
- 4:47Speaker 1: Ken Griffy's statue is, where Ken Griffey Junior was wearing
- 4:49Speaker 1: on his statue a US soccer jersey yesterday, and as
- 4:53Speaker 1: was Edgar Martinez just up the street. That's where the
- 4:57Speaker 1: barricades go up. You can't go north and you're blocked
- 5:00Speaker 1: off until about halfway through Pioneer Square, where you can
- 5:02Speaker 1: start driving again in downtown, and then that stretches a
- 5:06Speaker 1: little bit east to Fourth Avenue and then you can
- 5:08Speaker 1: drive up and down Fourth Avenue. I believe that's not barricaded.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But First Avenue is a no go about four hours
- 5:14Speaker 1: before each match, so just so you know traffic advisement. Anecdotally,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I got down relatively okay. I was Vita Morera, who
- 5:23Speaker 1: was on the air with me yesterday. We left early.
- 5:26Speaker 1: We got it, as I said, around eight am, and
- 5:28Speaker 1: parked in the Mariners garage. He had a parking pass.
- 5:32Speaker 1: But anecdotally I heard that the light rail was pretty
- 5:34Speaker 1: backed up. Ian Ferness was talking about that yesterday. If
- 5:37Speaker 1: you go later, you're gonna wait. That's just how it
- 5:39Speaker 1: is in this event. The driving is almost impossible unless
- 5:44Speaker 1: you don't mind parking somewhere and then taking light rail
- 5:47Speaker 1: or walking or whatever.
- 5:48Speaker 2: But what time's the game tonight? The Mariners game is
- 5:52Speaker 2: six forty? Is any World Cup now a World Cup's game?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Next to go?
- 5:55Speaker 1: World Cup game here is Friday at noon? Okay, and
- 5:58Speaker 1: the Mariners have a night game Friday. It's I think
- 6:00Speaker 1: it's seven to ten. Well, I don't have to worry
- 6:02Speaker 1: about because I'm going to the game tonight.
- 6:03Speaker 3: And I was like, shoot, but I'm also I did
- 6:06Speaker 3: but I'm also going to be at the airport to
- 6:08Speaker 3: get on there, park my car there and so hopefully,
- 6:12Speaker 3: well it doesn't matter, you should.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so you heard from the clip how loud it
- 6:17Speaker 1: was right. That was not amplified noise. That was that
- 6:20Speaker 1: was real, live noise. King five's Molly Heatherwick wrote seismic
- 6:24Speaker 1: grafts near the stadium recorded more shakes and lotter fan
- 6:27Speaker 1: reaction in yesterday's World Cup match than in the Seahawks
- 6:30Speaker 1: NFC Championship game win over the Rams in January. Chris
- 6:34Speaker 1: is already throwing his brow, not believing that that's impressive.
- 6:37Speaker 1: That's really cool.
- 6:38Speaker 2: It was cool. It really was cool to be in
- 6:41Speaker 2: the yard.
- 6:42Speaker 1: This is what Yori Telemans, the captain of the Belgian team,
- 6:45Speaker 1: the midfielder, said about the environment yesterday.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Dave was good, you know before the game, after the
- 6:54Speaker 4: game and during the game you tried to focus, but yeah,
- 6:57Speaker 4: it was. It was really good. We had both sets
- 6:59Speaker 4: of funds making some noise of it was great. Have
- 7:02Speaker 4: you en Georgia stay so far? Yeah, very good so
- 7:04Speaker 4: far within here a week. We couldn't wait for the game,
- 7:06Speaker 4: of which is the most important for us. But yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 4: now that first game is gone and we can move
- 7:11Speaker 4: on to the next quality the pitch, Yeah, it was.
- 7:13Speaker 4: The quality was really good, to be fair, and obviously
- 7:15Speaker 4: with the sun dries out very quickly. But I think
- 7:18Speaker 4: the cooling breaks helped. Cooling breaks helped to water the
- 7:22Speaker 4: pitch a little bit, but you know, with the sun
- 7:24Speaker 4: it dries out.
- 7:25Speaker 1: So overall happy, I asked Uri Tellman's that the Belgian captain,
- 7:30Speaker 1: because there was a storyline coming into this tournament that
- 7:32Speaker 1: the US grass fields and outdoor pitches were going to
- 7:36Speaker 1: be pretty dry because they hadn't been planted all that
- 7:39Speaker 1: recently or excuse me, all that long ago, only recently,
- 7:43Speaker 1: and they weren't watered enough. In Europe, they watered the
- 7:46Speaker 1: heck out of them, and those are permanent grass fields
- 7:49Speaker 1: and the ball you can just ping all around on
- 7:50Speaker 1: what they considered to be really fast grass, and there
- 7:54Speaker 1: was thought here that the US pitches would be drier
- 7:57Speaker 1: and therefore slower, and that the play would not be
- 7:59Speaker 1: like Europe pinging the ball around. Well, Teleman said, no
- 8:02Speaker 1: complaints from him. Those hydration breaks that Fox has been
- 8:07Speaker 1: ripped for for throwing commercials into as a three minute
- 8:10Speaker 1: money grab in the middle of each half, the sprinklers
- 8:15Speaker 1: come on on the field during those breaks.
- 8:17Speaker 2: It was a little bit I was like, wow, okay,
- 8:20Speaker 2: but while.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Those guys are on the side getting water and getting
- 8:22Speaker 1: coached up, the sprinklers came on and the telemon's point,
- 8:25Speaker 1: he thought that really helped the quality of the pitch
- 8:28Speaker 1: during the match. Belgium's been here for over a week.
- 8:30Speaker 1: They're training down at the Star the Sounders facility at
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Old long Acre's site in Renton, and this is
- 8:36Speaker 1: their camp for the entire tournament. There's a chance they're
- 8:38Speaker 1: going to play three times here. They could play a
- 8:41Speaker 1: Round of thirty six match if they win their group,
- 8:43Speaker 1: and then if they win that, they could play a
- 8:44Speaker 1: Round a sixteen match if the US beats Australia here
- 8:48Speaker 1: in Seattle on Friday, which is what makes this match
- 8:51Speaker 1: of some import more than some. On Friday, if the
- 8:54Speaker 1: US wins that match, Chris, the US would be on
- 8:56Speaker 1: track to play a Round a thirty two match against
- 8:58Speaker 1: a third place team which will be heavily favored beat
- 9:01Speaker 1: if they win that third as a group campion. If
- 9:03Speaker 1: they win the Round of thirty two they come back
- 9:05Speaker 1: to Seattle, they would be slotted into a Seattle round
- 9:08Speaker 1: of sixteen on July sixth, perhaps against Belgium, their tenth
- 9:13Speaker 1: ranked team in the world. US is seventeenth by FIFA's
- 9:16Speaker 1: latest rankings. But the point is about soccer. I get it,
- 9:20Speaker 1: and there are many many of course, across the Pacific Northwest.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I love soccer, grew up planet. The use soccer system
- 9:25Speaker 1: here is vibrant and vast, but there are many of
- 9:29Speaker 1: you listening, and I can see that on the text
- 9:31Speaker 1: line it can't stand soccer. But my point is, unlike
- 9:34Speaker 1: the NFL, soccer and especially the World Cup is not tribalism.
- 9:38Speaker 1: It's not this secular San Francisco VERSUS Seattle. If you
- 9:41Speaker 1: wear a forty nine Ers jersey to the loom and
- 9:43Speaker 1: field to get beer dumped on you, and cops have
- 9:45Speaker 1: to be an undercovered gear to see if fans are
- 9:48Speaker 1: being unruly and ejective. None of that. I saw Scotland jerseys.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I saw Mexico, the Belgians hugging guys wearing pharaoh headdresses
- 9:57Speaker 1: of Egypt. I'm okay, You're okay, and everyone from everyone
- 10:03Speaker 1: come on, come on. And it of course unites to
- 10:05Speaker 1: be behind an entire country if your team's the US.
- 10:08Speaker 1: You don't care if you're from Seattle or San Francisco, LA,
- 10:11Speaker 1: or New York or Chicago. You're for the US, Unlike
- 10:14Speaker 1: if you're for the Bears or the forty nine ers
- 10:16Speaker 1: of the Rams rolling into Loomenfield against the Seahawks. So
- 10:19Speaker 1: there is a off the right off the bat, there's
- 10:22Speaker 1: a different dynamic there. But have an entire nation behind
- 10:28Speaker 1: one team, It's just a different socio.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's just different.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I can't describe how after covering the NFL for as
- 10:37Speaker 1: long as I have twenty five plus years, to go
- 10:39Speaker 1: cover World Cup matches and see the unity and to
- 10:42Speaker 1: see that there is just a celebration.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Of the event of each of their countries. It was
- 10:48Speaker 2: really cool.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And I got to sit right at the corner of
- 10:51Speaker 1: Occidental and First and Jimmy's on First and with the
- 10:54Speaker 1: windows and a corner seat, and I got to see
- 10:56Speaker 1: the fan interactions for three plus hours yesterday, and it
- 10:59Speaker 1: was really need. It was also kind of comical that
- 11:02Speaker 1: the Seattle Police Department put up a tiny little protest zone.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I mean that thing was like ten feet by three feet.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I posted it on Twitter.
- 11:08Speaker 3: X and not to mention you spoke on being there
- 11:13Speaker 3: and the World Cup for one thing, the NFL happens yearly. True,
- 11:19Speaker 3: that is something that everyone knows there's going to another season.
- 11:23Speaker 2: That's true. Obviously.
- 11:24Speaker 3: With the World Cup, it just it's rare and it's
- 11:27Speaker 3: in a popular city in America that is known for
- 11:32Speaker 3: being just calm and collective. But now you have an
- 11:35Speaker 3: opportunity where the world comes in to watch their favorite
- 11:39Speaker 3: team compete, their favorite country compete on a popular sport
- 11:43Speaker 3: that's global. Because we know soccer's arguably, not arguably, it
- 11:48Speaker 3: is the biggest sport in the world, and obviously the
- 11:51Speaker 3: fan culture is different. So you're you're seeing all these
- 11:53Speaker 3: things and you got to witness it. So that's really cool,
- 11:56Speaker 3: Greg that at all everyone at the station, including Jackson
- 11:59Speaker 3: and Anderson, you got to be down there and experience.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Did they get in yesterday, I don't know because they
- 12:05Speaker 1: were still trying to get approved from FIFA for credentials
- 12:08Speaker 1: the last I checked with them Friday. I hope they
- 12:09Speaker 1: got in. I hope they do get it eventually. You're right, Chris,
- 12:13Speaker 1: it is different because it's not every it's not eighteen
- 12:16Speaker 1: a year.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Yeah, we know for a fact we had ninety nine
- 12:18Speaker 3: days coming or whatever the countdown is, and that's every
- 12:21Speaker 3: single year where the World Cup. You're lucky to ben
- 12:23Speaker 3: get it in your city, and Seattle is lucky enough
- 12:26Speaker 3: to have that and get that experience. As you're mentioning
- 12:31Speaker 3: on the text line, thank you little water canteen. Of
- 12:33Speaker 3: course two oh six, I appreciate that. Yes, of course
- 12:35Speaker 3: I forget that.
- 12:38Speaker 1: But it's just a vibe and whether you like the
- 12:41Speaker 1: game or not, the actual game on the pitch or not,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and many of you don't, and I get that, and
- 12:46Speaker 1: America has not been as.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Popular for soccer, in popularity of soccer for a long time.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I get that.
- 12:53Speaker 1: My point is, beyond soccer, there are people that live
- 12:56Speaker 1: lives beyond sports. I'm not sure sports talk radio hosted
- 13:00Speaker 1: ever said that on this station, but they do. And
- 13:02Speaker 1: that's what this is. It's a celebration of life. It's
- 13:05Speaker 1: a celebration of where people are from. It's a celebration
- 13:08Speaker 1: of being Belgium, it's a celebration of being Egyptian, it's
- 13:11Speaker 1: a celebration of being Mexican. If you haven't seen it,
- 13:14Speaker 1: it's gonna be a celebration of being Australian. I put
- 13:16Speaker 1: it up, reposted it this morning on Twitter exit Gbal Seattle.
- 13:19Speaker 1: If you haven't seen the videos of the Australians going
- 13:22Speaker 1: into Vancouver for the Saturday match against Turkey where they
- 13:25Speaker 1: won two nothing in an upset.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Check that out. Matt.
- 13:30Speaker 1: My friend Matt Stretch Johnson was up there with his
- 13:32Speaker 1: brother Saturday and he said the scene was incredible. He also,
- 13:35Speaker 1: Matt was taking videos from the South three hundred deck
- 13:39Speaker 1: yesterday at the match and loved it at Egypt and
- 13:43Speaker 1: Belgium and Seattle here. But what we're getting in Seattle
- 13:46Speaker 1: is no joke from the Australians on Friday. This and
- 13:49Speaker 1: all the other American outlaw soccer fans that are coming
- 13:52Speaker 1: from around the country here too.
- 13:54Speaker 2: It's going to be something.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And if they were breaking the NFC Championship noise sizemology
- 14:01Speaker 1: wreck recordings yesterday, huh, that's gonna be a It could
- 14:05Speaker 1: be close to beast quig, shall I say. I know
- 14:07Speaker 1: that's sacrilege to say here, but that's going to be
- 14:09Speaker 1: super loud on Friday, on a Friday afternoon. It's a
- 14:11Speaker 1: national holiday, by the way, June teenth, so many people
- 14:14Speaker 1: are not working. It's gonna be something on Friday. It's
- 14:19Speaker 1: really cool anyway, all right? For two, I would go
- 14:23Speaker 1: to the text on end eleven thirty yearsually. But four
- 14:24Speaker 1: two five, I'll answer to this. I'm not sure I
- 14:26Speaker 1: give a rip. There's a pro Iranian crowd in LA.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Are you a sports radio host or a political hack.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I'm a guy who speaks facts, and it is a
- 14:33Speaker 1: fact that there was a pro Iranian crowd in Los
- 14:36Speaker 1: Angeles last night.
- 14:36Speaker 2: It was a fact.
- 14:37Speaker 1: It remains a fact that Los Angeles is the largest
- 14:41Speaker 1: Iranian population outside the country of Iran.
- 14:44Speaker 2: That's a fact. You can call whatever you want.
- 14:46Speaker 1: You can your ears here, whatever it he is, but
- 14:48Speaker 1: that's I'm just telling you facts, and I'm just telling
- 14:50Speaker 1: you what the facts were last night in Los Angeles.
- 14:52Speaker 1: The reason I give that context is because Iran is
- 14:54Speaker 1: going to play here against Egypt on June twenty sixth
- 14:58Speaker 1: in Seattle, the last of the four group stage matches
- 15:00Speaker 1: up next. Brandon Soorsby is suddenly not playing college football.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Everyone thinks he's now means he's on his way into
- 15:09Speaker 1: the NFL because he's gonna He has stated his intent
- 15:11Speaker 1: to join the supplemental Draft. What is the supplemental Draft?
- 15:14Speaker 1: Why the NFL might not necessarily take Brendan Soarsby. That's
- 15:18Speaker 1: next on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Now back to Greg Bell and Christopher kidd on your
- 15:24Speaker 5: home for the Huskies, Kracket and the twelfth Man Sports
- 15:28Speaker 5: Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Hi, welcome back Greg Bell Show with Christopher kid Al
- 15:41Speaker 1: Live on ninety three point three kjr FM. Chris, I
- 15:44Speaker 1: just got some really really disturbing news about hockey, really
- 15:49Speaker 1: disturbing news. This from sportsnet pr in Canada after quote.
- 15:55Speaker 1: After a successful twelve year partnership, Sportsnet and CBC today
- 15:59Speaker 1: announced the public broadcaster will no longer carry NHL broadcast
- 16:04Speaker 1: as it moves forward with a new sports programming strategy
- 16:07Speaker 1: following the unprecedented success of the Milano Cortina Olympic Games.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Watching hockey is a Saturday night on Saturday night is
- 16:14Speaker 1: a time honor tradition for Canadians and sports on his
- 16:16Speaker 1: privileged to can continue delivering that tradition.
- 16:20Speaker 2: That's cable. So remember how I've been just going on
- 16:24Speaker 2: and on, and if.
- 16:24Speaker 3: You're to pay created to the NBA's version for Hawk,
- 16:28Speaker 3: if you get yes, I know what you're saying.
- 16:29Speaker 2: NBATNT now ESPN that was the equivalent, and that it
- 16:33Speaker 2: was free over the air.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Well, it wasn't over the air, but if you paid
- 16:36Speaker 1: for cable here in Seattle, you're paying six hundred bucks
- 16:38Speaker 1: a month already for Xfinity. Might as well use CBC
- 16:42Speaker 1: out of Vancouver channel ninety nine or six ninety one
- 16:45Speaker 1: HD to watch the NHL and the playoffs on and
- 16:48Speaker 1: CBC sports Net were unparalleled.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Now they're not going to do it anymore. One of my.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Favorite things about leaving living in Seattle was being able
- 16:56Speaker 1: to watch CBC Hockey broadcast every Saturday night in the
- 16:59Speaker 1: regular season in all the playoffs.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And now they're not doing it anymore.
- 17:03Speaker 1: After seventy four years of the CBC carrying hockey free
- 17:07Speaker 1: over the air on public television in Canada, it's not
- 17:11Speaker 1: doing it anymore because it's partnership with so Sports that
- 17:13Speaker 1: bought the Hockey Night in Canada rights in the franchise,
- 17:16Speaker 1: and the CBC was subleasing it basically to use it
- 17:19Speaker 1: and still have it on its air for the last
- 17:21Speaker 1: twelve years. And now it's ending. Man, I might not
- 17:26Speaker 1: even get cable anymore. I might have to do your
- 17:28Speaker 1: streaming Twitch Hulu.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's worth it.
- 17:32Speaker 3: We pay one hundred bucks a month and it's you
- 17:34Speaker 3: get everything.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I might have to hit you up on how
- 17:37Speaker 2: to do that, because.
- 17:38Speaker 1: One is honestly, one of the only reasons I was
- 17:40Speaker 1: continuing to pay Infinity was for the CBC.
- 17:43Speaker 2: To carry hockey.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Man, that's bad news. I know there was a few
- 17:47Speaker 3: of you out there agree with wonder why they made
- 17:49Speaker 3: that move. Is it too expensive? What's the deal there? Well,
- 17:52Speaker 3: it's a good question. We need to get someone from
- 17:55Speaker 3: CBC on it because they're talking.
- 17:56Speaker 1: About a new programming strategy following the success of the Olympics.
- 18:01Speaker 1: What the hell could their programming strategy and sports be
- 18:04Speaker 1: any better. He's on TSN, the ESPN of Canada, so
- 18:08Speaker 1: he's on the Arrival network.
- 18:10Speaker 2: But could you have some insight.
- 18:12Speaker 1: We could have far hunt on. He's covering the World
- 18:14Speaker 1: Cup right now for TSN. Oh, he's a little busy, okay.
- 18:17Speaker 1: TSN is the World Cup rights holder in Canada, and
- 18:19Speaker 1: Canada of course co hosting in a tournament. Canada's playing
- 18:23Speaker 1: this week in Vancouver. By the way, their second group
- 18:25Speaker 1: stage match.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Man, I'm bummed.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I mean, I'm like, there's a lot I wanted to
- 18:29Speaker 1: talk about this segment. But now I just can't even
- 18:31Speaker 1: get past that. Want me to help you, Greg, Yeah, sure,
- 18:34Speaker 1: here we go, bren Case. Brennans a couple of things.
- 18:37Speaker 1: You mentioned that he's going to basically apply for the
- 18:42Speaker 1: supplement on.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Yeah, so what happened?
- 18:44Speaker 1: Let me just catch the listeners up before you get
- 18:46Speaker 1: too far, Chris, because what are you talking about?
- 18:48Speaker 2: A week ago?
- 18:49Speaker 1: Yesterday Brennan soarsby got an injunction from a judge. Remember
- 18:52Speaker 1: we talked the whole story of a retired judge came out
- 18:54Speaker 1: of retirement for twelve years to give this guy. Yeah,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I forget the NCAA suspension for you gambling and betting
- 19:02Speaker 1: nine hundred times on college football. Don't worry about that.
- 19:04Speaker 1: You're playing temporary injunction. So it looks like he's playing.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And everybody in college football blew up and said hell no. Well, yesterday,
- 19:10Speaker 1: the Big Twelve, in the middle of the night one
- 19:13Speaker 1: AM filed a counter suit against the Texas Attorney General
- 19:18Speaker 1: because the Texas Attorney General was threatening to sue the
- 19:20Speaker 1: Big Twelve if they don't let him sores be played
- 19:22Speaker 1: this season, and the Big Twelve that opened the door.
- 19:26Speaker 1: The Texas Attorney General opened the legal door, and the
- 19:30Speaker 1: Big twelve walked right through it. They counter sued the
- 19:33Speaker 1: Texas Attorney General Texas Tech and said, if you play him,
- 19:40Speaker 1: we are sanctioning you were sanctioning the school. We're finding
- 19:44Speaker 1: you and were you're an eligible Texas Tech for the
- 19:46Speaker 1: conference championship. So in response to that, Brendan Sowarsby announced
- 19:49Speaker 1: he's going to the NFL Supplemental Draft.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Sorry, go ahead, Chris, You're good.
- 19:54Speaker 3: The thing is, though, Greg, you were mentioning that a
- 19:57Speaker 3: team probably won't even touch this kid, and there there's
- 20:00Speaker 3: multiple reasons why the betting violations, right, I think it's
- 20:04Speaker 3: over nine thousand bets that he placed.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Right, This wasn't just a He has.
- 20:10Speaker 1: What everyone associated him describes as a gambling addiction.
- 20:13Speaker 2: So you have that.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Now you're drafting someone as a quarterback. When you look
- 20:17Speaker 3: at the quarterback, you think of what franchise.
- 20:21Speaker 1: And he has the ball in his hand every play. Well,
- 20:22Speaker 1: let's just look at it from us. He determines the
- 20:24Speaker 1: outcome of the game.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Let's let's not even worry about the game so much.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Let's just look at it from an organization.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Wait a minute, if you're an addicted gambler and you
- 20:32Speaker 1: have the ball in your hand every play.
- 20:34Speaker 3: That's not a good look. That's you know, you control
- 20:36Speaker 3: the outcome of the game, face of the franchise. That's
- 20:39Speaker 3: why he shouldn't play leader of the locker room supposedly
- 20:42Speaker 3: and representative for the organization with fans, sponsors all of
- 20:46Speaker 3: this stuff, with media. Absolutely, so there's a big question mark.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Maybe the Jets would find, like you know what, he
- 20:52Speaker 3: might be pretty good. I'm joking. I'm kidding. A team
- 20:56Speaker 3: could wonder if they could, if you could handle something
- 20:58Speaker 3: like that. But at best this is there's a pause
- 21:03Speaker 3: in the NFL about gambling.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Don't allow it. Correct.
- 21:06Speaker 3: The fact that this kid's trying to find an out
- 21:08Speaker 3: is hilarious, correct, embarrassing, and I hope no team even
- 21:12Speaker 3: sniffs him.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Correct.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I don't think they will. Here's how the NFL, Chris,
- 21:16Speaker 1: You're exactly right. This is how the NFL supplemental draft works.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Here even first, the very first step is the league
- 21:24Speaker 1: has to approve him to have a supplemental draft for him.
- 21:27Speaker 1: That's true, that's not a fade a company either. The
- 21:30Speaker 1: NFL could say no, you're violating one of the core
- 21:33Speaker 1: tenants of our players, you can't do this. And if
- 21:35Speaker 1: you have a gambling addiction and you gamble on the
- 21:37Speaker 1: football games you play in and your team plays in,
- 21:40Speaker 1: you're not.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Playing in the league.
- 21:41Speaker 1: They could absolutely say that, so they don't have to
- 21:44Speaker 1: approve this supplemental draft, which I think got lost in
- 21:46Speaker 1: the news yesterday. If they do approve Brandon Sowersby for
- 21:50Speaker 1: the NFL supplemental Draft, because they don't want to get
- 21:52Speaker 1: sued to High Heaven by people in Lubock, Texas around Sowresby,
- 21:56Speaker 1: which is possible to nobody has to draft him. This
- 22:00Speaker 1: isn't a regular draft. A supplemental draft is a submission
- 22:04Speaker 1: of bids by all thirty two teams. So how it
- 22:07Speaker 1: works is it's a weighted lottery. The Raiders, because they
- 22:10Speaker 1: stunk and we're the worst team in the league last year,
- 22:11Speaker 1: gets the most chances to had the top pick in
- 22:14Speaker 1: the supplemental draft. The Seahawks, by virtue of winning the
- 22:16Speaker 1: Super Bowl, have the fewest.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Chances of having a top pick. They're gonna have by
- 22:20Speaker 2: odds the bottom picks.
- 22:22Speaker 1: How it works is you go and submit a bid,
- 22:24Speaker 1: a blind bid. Each team submits a blind bit if
- 22:26Speaker 1: they want swordsby for the round of the supplemental draft
- 22:30Speaker 1: they're willing to take him in. If the Jets, for instance,
- 22:33Speaker 1: wanted to take him in the third round, they would
- 22:35Speaker 1: be forfeiting their third round pick in next year's draft.
- 22:37Speaker 1: That's how it works the supplemental draft. Is you bid
- 22:40Speaker 1: a draft pick you're willing to surrender in the next
- 22:42Speaker 1: draft to get this player. All the bids get submitted.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Whoever is ranked highest and has the earliest bid earliest
- 22:50Speaker 1: round of the supplemental draft bid for Swersby would get them,
- 22:54Speaker 1: and they would lose the corresponding pick in next year's draft.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Swersby gets a contract exactly equal to two the slotted deal.
- 23:02Speaker 2: That that guy in the regular draft last year got.
- 23:04Speaker 1: So Sowresby's, for instance, was the one hundred and fortieth
- 23:07Speaker 1: pick overall in the fifth round of the supplemental draft,
- 23:10Speaker 1: he would get what the one hundred and fortieth pick
- 23:12Speaker 1: in the draft in April got in the fifth round.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Then that team that picked him in the fifth round
- 23:18Speaker 1: would lose a fifth round pick in the next year's draft.
- 23:22Speaker 1: My point is and Tacoma Dodge text line four nine,
- 23:25Speaker 1: four to five one. Should the NFL even have a
- 23:27Speaker 1: supplemental draft? Should they even approve sores before it? I
- 23:30Speaker 1: say no, Yeah, I'm with you.
- 23:31Speaker 3: No, there's just there's no reason for this kid to
- 23:34Speaker 3: get a shot at the next level after what he's done. Yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 3: I understand the behavior has stopped. He understands why I
- 23:41Speaker 3: was wrong. But the fact that he did this is
- 23:44Speaker 3: kind of insane. And it wasn't like he did it once, right,
- 23:47Speaker 3: I could see if he did it like ten times
- 23:49Speaker 3: or something and was like, you know what, I got
- 23:51Speaker 3: caught in something. He did it over nine a nine
- 23:53Speaker 3: thousand times, nine thousand bets. That is insane. Ninety thousand
- 23:57Speaker 3: dollars wagered and the NFL like, yeah, he's a talented player. Though, no,
- 24:02Speaker 3: this it stops in college, like finish. If you get
- 24:06Speaker 3: to play in college, great, they're you cool. But the
- 24:09Speaker 3: next level shouldn't even be a question because of how
- 24:13Speaker 3: you have just embarrassed your college, your family name, like
- 24:17Speaker 3: you have just you've done everything wrong that you were
- 24:20Speaker 3: not supposed to do as an athlete.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You violated one of the core ethical laws in sports
- 24:27Speaker 1: of betting on and affecting the integrity.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Of the games you play in.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Now you question everything about it, of course, and because
- 24:34Speaker 1: he has the ball in his hand on every play,
- 24:35Speaker 1: he will of more than anybody on a football field
- 24:38Speaker 1: effect who wins and loses them by how much. I
- 24:42Speaker 1: absolutely agree with you, Chris. There shouldn't even be a
- 24:45Speaker 1: supplemental draft. But and there also should be repercussions for
- 24:50Speaker 1: what you do. And if you do something this egregious,
- 24:52Speaker 1: you should pay a penalty for it, because that's part
- 24:55Speaker 1: of accountability and being an adult.
- 24:57Speaker 2: What college should.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Teach us not go find to judge or a legal
- 25:01Speaker 1: challenge that'll get you out of it and shop till
- 25:04Speaker 1: you find the right judge in the right lawyer. That no, Okay,
- 25:08Speaker 1: So if the NFL is afraid of getting student they
- 25:10Speaker 1: do have a supplemental draft four nine four to five
- 25:12Speaker 1: one on the Coma Dodge text line, one should they
- 25:14Speaker 1: even have a supplemental draft the NFL?
- 25:16Speaker 2: And two?
- 25:17Speaker 1: Does swords be deserve an NFL chance if you were
- 25:20Speaker 1: an NFL GM? On the text line, would you take
- 25:23Speaker 1: him in a supplemental draft if you were an NFL
- 25:26Speaker 1: GM and you needed a quarterback? And I don't even honestly,
- 25:30Speaker 1: I haven't heard much about Brendan Sorsby being a great
- 25:32Speaker 1: player other than he's got a good arm and prototypical size.
- 25:36Speaker 1: If he was that good, he wouldn't be at three
- 25:37Speaker 1: different schools in four years. But in college football today,
- 25:41Speaker 1: you just chase the money. You don't chase whether you're
- 25:42Speaker 1: actually really good or not. But four nine, four to
- 25:45Speaker 1: five one on the text line, shouldn't NFL even do this.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Brown's coach Todd Monkin told reporters in Cleveland about this today.
- 25:55Speaker 1: He talked about this.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I wonder what he said, Yeah, this is this is
- 25:59Speaker 2: exactly my point.
- 26:02Speaker 1: This is coach Todd Monkin and the Browns head coach quote,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I don't think we're in a position to want to
- 26:06Speaker 1: go down that road, meaning with Brendan Soorsby. Oh good
- 26:08Speaker 1: for him, that's my opinion. That's not Andrews meaning Andrew
- 26:12Speaker 1: Berry the Browns GM. I like the quarterbacks that we have.
- 26:15Speaker 1: That's one point. You're already in June, so your roster's
- 26:18Speaker 1: already set. What about the guys already in your locker room?
- 26:21Speaker 1: Then Todd Munkin goes on to say, I think that's
- 26:24Speaker 1: a slippery slope when you go down that meaning drafting
- 26:28Speaker 1: swords being a supplemental draft irrespective of talent, right in
- 26:32Speaker 1: terms of the situation he's himself in. We all know
- 26:35Speaker 1: what that is. He put himself in that situation. This
- 26:39Speaker 1: is what Todd Munkin said this morning in Cleveland about
- 26:41Speaker 1: the Brendan Sorsby situation.
- 26:43Speaker 6: Uh not at all. I mean, that's not even come
- 26:47Speaker 6: across my desk. I don't think we're in a position
- 26:50Speaker 6: to want to go down that road. That's my opinion.
- 26:52Speaker 6: That's not Andrews and that I like the quarterbacks that
- 26:55Speaker 6: we have. I think that's a slippery slope when you
- 26:59Speaker 6: go down that irrespective of talent, right in terms of uh,
- 27:04Speaker 6: the situations put himself in. We all know what that is.
- 27:07Speaker 6: I didn't he put himself in that situation. And we've
- 27:11Speaker 6: seen another sports with players that have been banned for
- 27:14Speaker 6: life from playing in professional sports. I think that's a
- 27:17Speaker 6: slippery slope to go down that road. Again, that's a
- 27:20Speaker 6: that's a question for Andrew and for management. But from
- 27:23Speaker 6: my end of it, kind of a tough, tough angle
- 27:27Speaker 6: to go down that road and think that that's going
- 27:30Speaker 6: to be your franchise quarterback exactly.
- 27:33Speaker 1: That's called the voice of reason. Todd Monkin, the head
- 27:36Speaker 1: coach of the Cleveland Browns, who needs a they need
- 27:38Speaker 1: a quarterback.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not worth it. There's just it's just.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Now he's telling his GM tread lately, sir, don't do
- 27:47Speaker 1: this to me. If you bring this quarterback in my
- 27:49Speaker 1: locker room, we got an issue. That's what he's telling
- 27:51Speaker 1: Andrew Berry, the Cleveland GM. And he's also telling his
- 27:54Speaker 1: locker room, I'm not doing this. And if this happens
- 27:57Speaker 1: and the Browns put his supplemental draft picking for so,
- 28:00Speaker 1: it ain't me, it's your GM, and the GM has
- 28:03Speaker 1: a problem, he's gonna lose his locker room. Pretty good
- 28:05Speaker 1: move by Todd Munkin. They're preemptively striking there to make
- 28:08Speaker 1: sure Brennan Swersby doesn't come in his locker room.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Four nine, four to five one. I get.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I understand that people should be rehabilitated and have a
- 28:17Speaker 1: chance to come back from things they do in life. Yes,
- 28:20Speaker 1: But if that thing is play football, and you're a
- 28:23Speaker 1: quarterback and you are a gambling addict self professed to be,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I mean, do you put an addict in a situation
- 28:33Speaker 1: where he's tempted to do it again? That's not exactly
- 28:36Speaker 1: the way that you get out of such situations. That's
- 28:38Speaker 1: not exactly why he went to counseling. You don't put
- 28:42Speaker 1: him with a football in his hand and a sport
- 28:43Speaker 1: that's so heavily wagered on where betting is so legal
- 28:46Speaker 1: across our country. How are you going to help a
- 28:48Speaker 1: man's gambling addiction doing that. He's bet on football nine
- 28:52Speaker 1: hundred times for ninety thousand dollars and suspended and thrown
- 28:56Speaker 1: out of college football for gambling. So let's put him
- 28:58Speaker 1: in a sport that is so heavily waged at a
- 29:00Speaker 1: position that is the most likely to determine how much
- 29:03Speaker 1: your team winner loses by that defies common sense, that
- 29:07Speaker 1: has nothing to do with rehabilitation.
- 29:08Speaker 2: That's just stupid.
- 29:10Speaker 1: It's all in the name of money. I think the
- 29:13Speaker 1: NFL should not have a supplemental draft. I think they
- 29:15Speaker 1: will because they don't want to get sued, and I
- 29:17Speaker 1: think no team's going to draft him. That's my prediction.
- 29:20Speaker 1: And I know Brandon Swersby will not play football this year.
- 29:23Speaker 1: He might go to Canada, he might go to the
- 29:25Speaker 1: Arena League, but I don't think he's playing in the NFL.
- 29:28Speaker 2: If he does.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Once another once again, wins and money and whatever over
- 29:35Speaker 1: just common decency and common sense.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I don't know, four nine, four to five one. We'll
- 29:39Speaker 2: read back to your texts. Already getting a couple interesting
- 29:41Speaker 2: ones on.
- 29:41Speaker 1: This up next in advance of Gary Hill Junior, the
- 29:44Speaker 1: Mariners broadcaster are talking to us at eleven o'clock on
- 29:46Speaker 1: the show, Let's talk about the Mariners.
- 29:48Speaker 2: They begin his home stand the night against Baltimore at home.
- 29:51Speaker 1: They've got cal Rawley coming back, JP Crawford maybe coming back.
- 29:55Speaker 1: We'll tell you maybe he plays and Andres Munios what
- 29:58Speaker 1: to do with him with back tightness, Brendan Donovan situation.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Lots to talk about the Mariners. Next on ninety three
- 30:03Speaker 2: point three kJ RFM. Quarterback Greg Bell, Christopher Kid.
- 30:15Speaker 1: We'll be live on ninety three point three KJRFM. Mariners
- 30:20Speaker 1: today play the Baltimore Orioles, beginning six game homestand also
- 30:23Speaker 1: includes Boston over the weekend. Yes Soccer US Australia noon
- 30:28Speaker 1: at Lumenfield Friday. Then Friday night Mariners in Red Sox
- 30:32Speaker 1: open a three game series right across the street. Mariners
- 30:36Speaker 1: have cal Rawley coming back. He told Adam Jude of
- 30:38Speaker 1: the Seattle Times yesterday that he is coming off the
- 30:42Speaker 1: injured list. He's been on it since May fourteenth. He
- 30:44Speaker 1: told Adam the last month has been quote productive and
- 30:47Speaker 1: quote eye opening. Raley told Jude he'd use the time.
- 30:51Speaker 1: He has used the time away to reflect. Isn't exactly
- 30:55Speaker 1: what we talked about in the first week of May.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Chris shut him down so he can just take a
- 30:58Speaker 1: step back and brief Yeah, imagine that. And now he's saying,
- 31:04Speaker 1: after a month away, Hey, this was great. I took
- 31:06Speaker 1: a break, I got away, I had time to reflect.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I'm refreshed. He's banging five home runs in four games
- 31:11Speaker 1: down in Tacoma and the minor league rehab start.
- 31:14Speaker 2: That's exactly what.
- 31:15Speaker 1: We talked about the first week in May when we
- 31:17Speaker 1: said they should put him on the io, and they
- 31:19Speaker 1: did so that's good news for the Mariners. Crawford JP.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Crawford looks like he may be coming back. He's been
- 31:25Speaker 1: working out back again at third base. M Brendan Donovan,
- 31:29Speaker 1: what's up with him? Well, he's been on the injury
- 31:31Speaker 1: list now for many weeks, and Justin Hollanders said a
- 31:34Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago that they're going to take the
- 31:36Speaker 1: long game on him so that he doesn't come back
- 31:37Speaker 1: and hurt it himself again. It's all related to the
- 31:39Speaker 1: sports hernia surgery he had at the end of last
- 31:42Speaker 1: year while he was ending his season with the Saint
- 31:44Speaker 1: Louis Cardinals before the Mariners got him. So Donovan doesn't
- 31:47Speaker 1: look like he's coming back anytime soon, which means when
- 31:51Speaker 1: JP Crawford comes back, it looks like he might be
- 31:54Speaker 1: playing third base tonight for all we know. Because cold
- 31:56Speaker 1: Emerson has been so good at twenty years old at shortstop,
- 32:00Speaker 1: the Mariners may not want to move him back to third.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Just keep him it short, That's what I would do.
- 32:04Speaker 1: And now what about Andres Munos lower back stiffness. Came
- 32:09Speaker 1: out of the game after two batters on Sunday, which
- 32:11Speaker 1: his first outing since Monday. He hasn't pitched enough. He's
- 32:15Speaker 1: been ineffective when he hasn't pitched consecutively or routinely, and
- 32:20Speaker 1: now he's hurt because he hadn't pitched in six days.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Put him on the injury list. That might be the move,
- 32:25Speaker 1: Chris do him at cal Rawley. Just shut him down,
- 32:29Speaker 1: let him rest, let his back rest, let him get
- 32:31Speaker 1: away from the game for a minute. And they're still
- 32:33Speaker 1: in first place in June, and they're still going to
- 32:35Speaker 1: be in first place in July. That's what I would do.
- 32:38Speaker 1: It's the same exact scenario we talked about a month
- 32:40Speaker 1: ago with kyl Rawley. Do it with Andres Munnos. Put
- 32:43Speaker 1: whose eyes for rare? Perhaps if you have to have
- 32:45Speaker 1: a closer, but let's do it by committee like we
- 32:47Speaker 1: talked about last week, and move everybody around depending on
- 32:50Speaker 1: the matchups. Matt Brash being on the injury list again
- 32:53Speaker 1: kind of gums that up because you don't have your
- 32:55Speaker 1: primary right handed setup guy to rotate through a committee
- 32:58Speaker 1: closer situation. Let's put for Air the veteran left hander
- 33:01Speaker 1: who was a National's closer last year in that spot,
- 33:04Speaker 1: and let's show Munos for a few weeks. If I'm
- 33:06Speaker 1: the Mariners, That's what I would do. Wes Gary Hill
