- 2:06the silliest business I ever heard of, Nick, ordering a dish of mcaroni
- 2:09just so somebody else won't get it. Yes, Patsy, but it's this
- 2:13particular dish that holds the fortune. But what if you don't get it before
- 2:15Breenhat does? And I failed and what I promised to do? But what
- 2:19happens after you get the dish of macaroni? Nick? We search it for
- 2:23what it contained, and after that anything can happen. Now the case of
- 2:31the Wandering Macaroni. Today's adventure with Nick Carter brought to you by all Dutch
- 2:37Cleanser. It's been a busy day for Nick Carter, who has been cleaning
- 2:40up the routine business that is piled up on his desk. Now it is
- 2:44late afternoon and Nick is still dictating letters to his recording machine while his secretary,
- 2:49Patsy, sits at a desk and taps her foot impatiently. Dear mister
- 2:53Gaylord, have received your letter dated January seventeenth, semi colon. However,
- 2:59it is my policy to accept cases of this nature period. I find the
- 3:04activities of the sort you suggest they're incompatible with a general standing that I have
- 3:07attempted to the Pertsy it turned off the machine. That's right, it's five
- 3:13thirty. I won't transcribe those letters till tomorrow anyway. And besides, it's
- 3:17my birthday, Catty. You promised me six months ago that we'd go out
- 3:23to dinner to celebrate my birthday, and I'm going to drag you away from
- 3:25the office. I have to use a black chat all right, all right,
- 3:28Patsy, I didn't forget. We'll close up the office right now and
- 3:31go out and celebrate. Well, that's better. Which do you think would
- 3:36be nice to Nick? The Penguin Room or the Moonlight roof? Your choice,
- 3:38Patsy, you're the birthday child. I think the Penguin Room. They've
- 3:44got that big name band and all the the door. Oh no, not
- 3:49another case. Let's keep very quiet and maybe he'll go away. I'd like
- 3:53you, but it might be important. Don't worry about the dinner, Patsy.
- 3:55I'll see to it that you'd come in. You're Nick Carter, the
- 4:01detective. That's right, this is my secretary, miss Borne. How do
- 4:04you do how do you do? What can I do for you? I
- 4:08want you to get me a dish of macaroni. I beg your pardoner.
- 4:13I thought you said macaroni. I did what. Perhaps i'd better explain why
- 4:17I should thank so. My name is Griswold, Ben Griswold. Years ago,
- 4:21I used to work as a contact man for your father, sim Carter
- 4:25when he needed an inside track and unusual circles. Say wait a minute,
- 4:30Ben Griswold, I remember you. I hoped you would. You used to
- 4:33come to the house when I was a boy and help me with arithmetic.
- 4:36It's right, Nick, but I need your help now. I can't go
- 4:41to the police. I can't afford publicity of any sort. It would ruin
- 4:45me. I'll be glad to do what anything I can. Ben, I
- 4:46pay any fee you asked, now, don't worry about that. For an
- 4:49old friend of my father's. That's on the house. But you said you
- 4:53wanted a dish of macaroni. Here. Now here's the whole setup. At
- 4:57seven o three tonight, a man wearing a green hat. We'll go into
- 5:01the cafeteria at forty seventh Street and Avenue M. Yes, exactly one minute
- 5:06later, he'll drop a glass on the floor and break it. But five
- 5:10that's an identification signal. Then at seven oh five he'll go to the steam
- 5:15table. There'll be three dishes on top of the counter. The middle one
- 5:18will be macaroni, Nick, and I want you to get that dish before
- 5:21the man in the green hat dies. What's in it? And why is
- 5:25it so important? In that macaroni dish, you'll find a metal container.
- 5:30I can't tell you what's in it, but I'll meet you here tomorrow,
- 5:32and before you hand it over to me, I'll give you legal proof that
- 5:36it's really mine. I can't go myself, Nick, they know me by
- 5:41sight. I see. Let's say now green hat comes in at seven o
- 5:45three, at four after he breaks a glass, and I'm to beat him
- 5:47to the macaroni at five after that's right, And be careful, Nick,
- 5:51it'll be dangerous, all right, Ben, You've got yourself a detective.
- 5:55I'll get that macaroni for you. May even bring back some salt and pepper
- 5:58for season. He Nick, you're proud, must it take me to the
- 6:00penguin room for dinner? It's my birthday, that's right. Well, never
- 6:04let it be said that a carter broke a promise. We're off to dinner
- 6:08at the Penguin Room. No Patsy at the cafeteria. Hmmm, big things
- 6:19for a birthday dinner. We'll make it up later, Patsy. We're taking
- 6:24the Penguin Room and the Moonlight Room. Oh there he is, Prenat behind
- 6:29you by the water cooler. I see he's looking at his wristwatch. He's
- 6:31awfully big. Nick looks as though he could walk upstairs with a piano.
- 6:35Want to reach arm. I don't like that bulge in his prote that's a
- 6:39shoulder bolster. Here goes to the broken glass. Right on schedule? Have
- 6:43you got enough change a whole pocket? Pro com right? You keep away
- 6:46from bringing that Patsy. You see me start for the door, Get going
- 6:49fast and beat me outside? Right, Nick, wait a minute, I
- 6:53help you. Bud coffee black and plenty hot. Oh you want coffee for
- 6:57now? Nick might come in handy. There you are five cents nice.
- 7:02Now down to the steam table. He comes green hat fast. We'll beat
- 7:06him. Here's the macaroni in the corner. I'll drop a quarter and grab
- 7:11it. Hey, you give me the macaroni? Why should I I paid
- 7:14for it? Hand it over. I look up what that coffee is forgot?
- 7:24Walk as fast as you can. I'm un coffee's built on green hatt
- 7:26Getting busy for a while. Could you get the container out of the dish?
- 7:29I had a fish the macaroni to see when Brizze comes for tomorrow.
- 7:32Around this corner quick? Yeah, okay, wine sky up with the hands,
- 7:38green hat there. This must be my lucky day. Boy. That's
- 7:45just the way to treat a new pair of nylon. That's the door,
- 7:49Pa, it's open too. I think it leads to an alley. Yes,
- 7:58flash air, green hat. Maybe around some place. I've got ashes
- 8:05in my shoes down the back of my neck. The first thing I'm going
- 8:09to do is go home, take a shower, and get into some clean
- 8:11clothes. Why I am too right now? I got a phone call to
- 8:15make, and I'm running a race, very important race. Have you feeling
- 8:18all right? Never felt better? But it's right or to run a race?
- 8:20Patsy with a Department of sanitation covered with dust and ashes. Nick and
- 8:31Patsy hurry through the city on a mysterious race. Their goal the secret of
- 8:33the container in the wandering macaroni. As their cab koreens through the streets.
- 8:37Nick wonders what lies behind the struggle for this puzzling prize. We'll see how
- 8:41he finds the answers in just a minute. Now back to the case of
- 8:50the Wandering Macaroni. Today's adventure with Nick Carter brought to you by all Dutch
- 8:54cleanser covered with ashes. Nick and Patsy hail a cabin. Hurry back self
- 9:00pounds. It is after midnight when they are dropped on a corner, and
- 9:03now they hurry along the dimly life and deserted speak. Patsy is still trying
- 9:07to brush the dust off her hair. Snick, I don't see why I
- 9:09can't go home and clean up later. Hurry now, there's a cafeteria down
- 9:15the street. We just look at myself and there is enough left for them
- 9:18to make a pair of Bobby sacks. We are Why is it the same
- 9:22wonder where green Hat held us up? Snick? What are you diving into
- 9:24that trash can for? Maarona? I twisted him here when I went picking
- 9:30up your purse, so that's why green Hat couldn't find it when he searched
- 9:33you the sanitation here first? And oh, what's the matter? In here
- 9:43you find it? No, not yet, Yes, here it is good.
- 9:46Our little macaroni covered grimck is a coupling up a police car. I
- 9:50know Sarget Rats said he'd meet us here when I hold you know one of
- 9:56these days, Nick Corner, I ain't gonna come running when you call hi,
- 10:01sergeant, Hi passy. Hey, what have you been doing? Playing
- 10:03hide and seeking that garbage can? In a way, we've been chasing a
- 10:07dish of macaroni At this time of night. You're both going off your rockers.
- 10:11Now, just stay nice and quiet and Uncle Matty will call the wagon.
- 10:16I'll be funny, Maddie. I'm on a case. I need your
- 10:18help, and how like to look through your files and check a few things?
- 10:20Okay, Nick, hopping back and I'll take you downtown. Now what's
- 10:24all this about? I can't tell you much now, Maddy, but I
- 10:26have a hunch run a trail of something big. All right, Sit down,
- 10:37Nick Cordra, I'll have those fingerprints for you in a minute. Where'd
- 10:41you get him from my notebook cover? The ape of the green hat had
- 10:45his paws all over it when he searched me. They kept the wallet he
- 10:48gave me back the notebook. What about the other guy, the colonel.
- 10:50Yeah, there, Maddie is a smooth operator. Didn't touch anything and tryed
- 10:54to keep his face in the shadow, but he leaned forward when he reached
- 10:56for my wallet. Why don't you check to our Nick and see if you
- 11:01can spot him from the photographs. Good idea, Betsy, sound too,
- 11:03she can help. Hey, where is Bessie down the hall washing up?
- 11:09You produce some soap too, Nick. I haven't time to crack this for
- 11:13tomorrow morning when I see Griddlin. Any luck in the filing so far?
- 11:16I know one that even looks like grandmother, and come in. There's a
- 11:22record on the Prince Sergeant. Mister Carter is right. This guy's got a
- 11:24record as long as your arm. Okay, Carter, Thanks, I'll read
- 11:30it after Melia, Maddie, I'll keep looking for the colonel. Let's see.
- 11:33Now, quite a guy. You're a man in the green hat,
- 11:37Nick, Yeah, named ship goarse convictions three six nine, everything from dope
- 11:43and hot cars to making book. Wanted by the Treasury boys for smuggling.
- 11:48I better have him picked up. What's the latest they got on him?
- 11:52Well, here, he's been spotted down in South America Port San Luisorro.
- 11:56Looks like the Treasury has been keeping a close eye on that baby. Nick.
- 12:01Hey, ib well, what is it, Nick? You're finding the
- 12:03colonel's car up on my client's picture. What do you mean here in this
- 12:07card? And Grizzwold convicted nineteen twenty three illegal stock manipulation, served two years
- 12:13in stayed prison. Ben Grizzwold say, I'll remember that case. I was
- 12:16a rookie when it broke. Remember anything about him, an Ny? Well,
- 12:20now let me see. Yeah, he was a research signist, but
- 12:22he got mixed up with a couple of stock juggling wizards and took the rap.
- 12:26Huh, he's been going straight ever since, as far as I know.
- 12:30The liquor that's what he meant when he said he was a contact man
- 12:33for my father in unusual circles. Huh, must have been an underworld agent.
- 12:37After I got out of prison. Could be mattery. After I checked
- 12:39these piles. And I want to borrow your laboratory for a while, all
- 12:41right, Sure thing, Nick, I've got a little special work to do,
- 12:43all right. I'll have Carter opened it up for you. Well,
- 12:46how about the container from the macaroni. They can't wait a morning for the
- 12:50unveiling. Can you pick Grizzold up to night if we need him, that's
- 12:52no problem. We'll find him somehow good. And if you can get him
- 12:54down here and hold him to my call, I think we can break this
- 12:56tonight. Well back at the opposite last, Matsy, you're sure you don't
- 13:11want to go straight home? No, no, I couldn't sleep anyway.
- 13:15It is never a girl that gets kidnapped on a birthday instead of being taken
- 13:18to dinner. I'm sorry about that, Patty. Maybe I shouldn't admit it,
- 13:22but I was looking forward to that party too. Thanks for telling me.
- 13:26Oh, here we are. I think i'll finished those letters before.
- 13:31Didn't you leave the light on when we went out? I don't know.
- 13:35I think I did. I get to turn them out though it's dark.
- 13:41Now. Do you think something's wrong? I don't know. There's only one
- 13:46way to find out. Wait a minute, I got the right key,
- 13:52okay, Petty, I'll get the light. Think it's green hair, Yes,
- 14:05it's dead. Yes, my dear the colonel, I've been waiting for
- 14:13you. Sit down to your desk. Cotta bother reaching in the drawer.
- 14:24I've removed the revolver from it. I warn you, I shoot quickly,
- 14:28inaccurately, So don't attempt any heroics. You think of everything, don't you,
- 14:31Colonel, I try to. I find it necessary in my business,
- 14:35your business. Perhaps I should say profession I'm a smuggler and a very good
- 14:39one. Don't move, miss Bowen. I have no scruples against using a
- 14:43gun on my lady. I'm sure you haven't. Say air conditioning works in
- 14:50an automatic thermos dead, I say, cowper. I think i'd better convince
- 14:54you that I mean business. We're convinced of that already container you manage to
- 14:58get out of a hands. Those microfilm plans plans photographed on small film.
- 15:05Oh we know what microfilm is. Out of those plans are, Colonel,
- 15:09a new and secret process for casting aluminum which doesn't belong to you. Know
- 15:13you see, Old Griswold discovered the process in South America. But it wasn't
- 15:16too careful about guarding his property. You mean you hijack it of him?
- 15:20Uh, you could call it that. I knew it would be worth millions
- 15:24to the automobile industry, which would pay heavily to the first man to secure
- 15:28an American patent. I planned to have a quntman patented, but you couldn't
- 15:33get it into the country because the treasurymen were watching your gang too closely precisely.
- 15:37That's why we had to adopt that complicated method of delivering the container.
- 15:43And I my dad, your shrewd guess decreases your chances of surviving this meeting.
- 15:48You're pretty careless with murder onn't you. I'm afraid there's been a trail
- 15:52of debt following that container, starting with the original inventor of the process in
- 15:56South America and ending in our unfortunate friend in the green hat be Pale,
- 16:03and I was forced to remove him. And he may not be the ass
- 16:07mister Carter, you won't get Claire on that wrap. Colonel. On the
- 16:11contrary, it's a perfect setup. Briswold couldn't call the police. Any publicity
- 16:15would call attention to the new process before he could patent it. You'll slip,
- 16:18Colonel, it won't work. I've told you this, Carter, to
- 16:22convince you that I am deadly serious. I'm going to get those films,
- 16:26and I don't care particularly how I go about it. I think that corpse
- 16:30cooling on. Your pressure should prove that looks as though you're holding all the
- 16:36races. Donness exactly now the container, please, I grow impatient, mister
- 16:41Carter, you don't hand it over by the time I count three, I
- 16:47shall proceed to shoot your secretary right between her very pretty eyes. Next it's
- 16:59watching on wavering gun in the Colonel's hand. You must act now or the
- 17:03soft spoken murderer will kill again. We'll see what he does in just a
- 17:07minute. Now for the conclusion of the case of the Wandering Macaroni, Today's
- 17:17adventure with Nick Carter brought to you by all Dutch cleansering man. Nick's office
- 17:22is quiet as the Colonel covers Nick and Patsy, his finger typing on the
- 17:25trigger. The only sound is the Colonel's voice. One who hold it?
- 17:33Colonel, I don't see why I should stick my neck out for a client,
- 17:38Nick, Intelligence, How can you gave you all I's use of hiding
- 17:48it in the heel of my shoe if you're going to double crush a client
- 17:52anyway, clever, I see the heel and screws here it is because there's
- 18:00nothing left to do, Colonel, here's your container. Don't leave you'll chair
- 18:06put it on the disk. Okay, I'll sit back a move cotton that
- 18:14you finally the state the reason before we decide what to do with him,
- 18:19we'll see whether this is the real container. It opens on this end,
- 18:27stuck. I have got the gun now, colonel, and now we'll see
- 18:38how you like looking down the barrel. Well, it's all said, we
- 18:51got the colonel book murder in the first How about the rest of the gang.
- 18:53Maddie all locked up as soon as you call, and Tomy green Hat
- 18:56was dead and you had caught the colonel. Where's wool led us to the
- 19:00guy who tipped him off about the macaroni deal, and he squealed on the
- 19:03rest. Good. I turned the plans over to Griswold, and he's got
- 19:06him in the bank, bolt, and he better get the patent papers filed
- 19:07in a hurry before anybody else gets any ideas. You know what burns me,
- 19:11Nick, that rat. The colonel will probably hire six genius lawyers.
- 19:15Oh no, he won't, Mate, He took plenty before you got here,
- 19:18but he will mind of scaring at her handing over the container. He
- 19:21even confessed to murder. Well, that's fine, but can we prove that
- 19:23to a jewelry, we could let them hear the confession with their own airs
- 19:26that Just before he started talking, I kicked the switch on my recording machine
- 19:30under the desk. Well, I'll be got everything, he said. He
- 19:33thought the noise was the air conditioning, but he was really dictating his own
- 19:37Dessen. But Nick, how the devil did you get out from under that
- 19:40gun? The colonel looks like a pretty cool customer, Demean, Yes,
- 19:44Nick, just what happened? First, I'm looking at that gun too,
- 19:47scared debris, thinking you were double crossing their client. And then the colonel
- 19:51screaming that he can't see Well, I knew the colonel would come to visit
- 19:55me sometimes. He had my wallet and my address in it. Well,
- 19:57that's true. The only way he could locate the and it was to come
- 20:00after me. So I stopped in the police laboratory and fixed a surprise for
- 20:03him while I was washing up. Yes, I took the films out of
- 20:07the container and rigged the little booby trap inside it with tear gas. Well,
- 20:11I'll be dog gone, but that stunts with the heel of my shoe,
- 20:17Patsy, he'd have suspected me if I had just had it in my
- 20:18pocket, I knew he'd open it up immediately to check, and that's exactly
- 20:23what he did, and he got it right in the eyes. Well,
- 20:26there's still one thing I'm not satisfied with me my birthday dinner. Even if
- 20:33we do go to the penguin room, the head waiter will probably get murdered
- 20:37and you'll take the case. Well, then how about going back to the
- 20:40cafeteria for a dish of macaroni? Oh? Well, Nick, what about
- 20:52the adventure Old Dush Cleanser is going to bring us next week. I'll get
- 20:56to that just a moment, Bob. First, I want to wish,
- 20:59or rather I wish to call attention to the fact that this is the first
- 21:02day of National Farm Safety Week. I want to remind every farmer I possibly
- 21:07can that's the best way to prevent accidents on his farmers, to be sure
- 21:10that everybody knows his job. Safety records and industry are achieved by training and
- 21:15watchfulness. The same thing is true in the farm. So don't take chances.
- 21:19The life you save may be your own. Ow, Bob, next
- 21:23week, we're going to be the man who was murdered because he was cured
- 21:26of a disease he didn't have. And the most amazing thing about him was
- 21:30the fact that his face could take pictures after he was dead. A man's
- 21:33face that could take pictures after he was dead. That sounds fascinating. What
- 21:37do you call the story, Nick, I call it the Case of the
- 21:41Dead Camera. Nick carter Master Detective is presented each week at this time and
- 21:51over these same stations by the Cutdaheat Packing Company, makers of all Dutch cleansers.

- 22:52for poor Patsy, though I can't help but think she might have had a
