- 0:36Speaker 1: forget about tell phe number for Larsenome Services six oh
- 0:39Speaker 1: eight five three five forty three forty three. That's six
- 0:42Speaker 1: O eight five three five forty three forty three, without
- 0:44Speaker 1: any further ado, Andrew, how are you doing this morning?
- 0:48Speaker 2: I'm doing excellent and I just want you to know
- 0:50Speaker 2: that you just aged yourself. You So what are the
- 0:51Speaker 2: kids doing now? Is Facebook? Kids don't use Facebook? No
- 0:55Speaker 2: on MySpace. They've never heard of their it's Snapchat pretty
- 1:02Speaker 2: much primarily the only thing. But yeah, Facebook, I remember
- 1:08Speaker 2: when Facebook was people us for old people.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Remember when it was like an exclusive party, like you
- 1:15Speaker 1: had to get an invite to join, and like all
- 1:17Speaker 1: the cool kids were there. That's apparently not the thing anymore, huh.
- 1:20Speaker 2: It was way back in the day that that's before
- 1:23Speaker 2: Facebook and Google ruled.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Yeah the world they sure, Oh yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:30Speaker 1: It's funny about is about like where we are now
- 1:33Speaker 1: and the great world of information sharing and you know,
- 1:37Speaker 1: all these fantastic opportunities to get words word out and
- 1:42Speaker 1: share knowledge. Nothing also beats, though, good old fashioned getting
- 1:46Speaker 1: together with with other folks in similar fields or other
- 1:49Speaker 1: folks in the same field, maybe in different areas. And
- 1:52Speaker 1: you had a chance actually to speaking of partaking in
- 1:55Speaker 1: some information and information sharing. You recently got a chance
- 1:59Speaker 1: to attend a con Diference with about the roofing industry
- 2:02Speaker 1: and kind of what it's all about. And this is
- 2:04Speaker 1: one of the things I love about you is we've
- 2:07Speaker 1: talked about your team at Largstom Services continuing education, but
- 2:11Speaker 1: it starts at the top. You also do a lot
- 2:13Speaker 1: of spend a lot of time learning about different products,
- 2:16Speaker 1: learning about the industry. Let's talk about this this recent
- 2:18Speaker 1: conference you attended.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so this wasn't really a conference. So this is
- 2:23Speaker 2: something it's a networking group. And I've been involved in
- 2:25Speaker 2: this for all since like twenty twenty. I remember our
- 2:30Speaker 2: first conference. It was actually in Florida and it was
- 2:32Speaker 2: in February of twenty twenty, and there was all these
- 2:34Speaker 2: like little whispers about this thing called cool ooh, like
- 2:38Speaker 2: yeah whatever, and no big deal, and then like a
- 2:41Speaker 2: month and a half later, boom, the world trust out. Anyway,
- 2:45Speaker 2: it takes me back. But so no, I get together
- 2:48Speaker 2: with these other with these other roofing contractors, and it's
- 2:50Speaker 2: it's not to really talk about products. It's more to
- 2:53Speaker 2: talk about business practices and the changing world of contractors
- 2:58Speaker 2: and roofing. And you know, one of the things I
- 3:01Speaker 2: think one of the last shows we kind of talked
- 3:03Speaker 2: about business, business ethics and being able to choose the
- 3:07Speaker 2: right contractor. And in something that that I'm really proud
- 3:10Speaker 2: of is that, you know, we've we've put our money
- 3:12Speaker 2: where our mouth is for the past fifteen years and
- 3:15Speaker 2: and a lot of contractors will say, oh, yeah, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 2: if anything's wrong with it, give me a call. Well,
- 3:19Speaker 2: we put it in writing. I mean, if there is
- 3:22Speaker 2: something wrong, we will fix it for free pretty much forever.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I mean, it is what it is. If there's something
- 3:29Speaker 2: wrong with something that we did, I mean, man, sometimes
- 3:34Speaker 2: we go overboard. I never forget about the lady called
- 3:36Speaker 2: and said her downce ball was broken. I get there
- 3:38Speaker 2: and you know it's got holes all over it. I
- 3:41Speaker 2: think I've talked about this and it's all blood. Well,
- 3:43Speaker 2: her dog chase to squirrel up the downpat rip the dowart.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Should we fix that for free? No? But we did. Ah,
- 3:50Speaker 2: you know, like I'm like, you know, next time you
- 3:53Speaker 2: might have to pay for the next one. But we
- 3:55Speaker 2: talk about business ethics and meeting all these other contractors.
- 3:58Speaker 2: There's probably about fifty fifty companies. They're roofing companies from
- 4:02Speaker 2: basically every corner east coast, west coast, south, you know, north, everywhere.
- 4:07Speaker 2: And what was super surprising to me was, you know,
- 4:11Speaker 2: I always talk about this. We do it this way,
- 4:14Speaker 2: we do it this way. We charge enough so we
- 4:16Speaker 2: can stay in business to help our homeowners out in
- 4:20Speaker 2: the future if they have problems. And I lost count
- 4:25Speaker 2: at the amount of other roofers that pulled me aside
- 4:30Speaker 2: and said, hey, just want you to know that we
- 4:33Speaker 2: model our business after the way you do things. And
- 4:36Speaker 2: I'm like me, you know, when some of these people
- 4:40Speaker 2: have been in business for twenty five, thirty forty years,
- 4:45Speaker 2: but because of social media, because of podcasts, they see them,
- 4:52Speaker 2: they watch them, they hear what we talk about in
- 4:54Speaker 2: the way that we do things. And so it goes
- 4:58Speaker 2: back to what I've had some of my other buddies,
- 5:00Speaker 2: Buddies and slash competitors here in the Madison area saying, gosh,
- 5:03Speaker 2: you know, you talk about everything that you do, you
- 5:05Speaker 2: say the way you do it, and then magically, like
- 5:09Speaker 2: six months or a year later, another contractor is doing
- 5:11Speaker 2: the same thing. And I always take the stance of
- 5:14Speaker 2: but if we can do things better or be like
- 5:17Speaker 2: a trend setter, and those trends trickle down to other contractors,
- 5:22Speaker 2: that means for me, whether they go with us or
- 5:25Speaker 2: go with somebody else, they're going to get a better
- 5:28Speaker 2: job done if people are trying to do it the
- 5:31Speaker 2: way we do it. And there's something good about that too, right,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I mean, contractors have got the worst reputation for leaving
- 5:40Speaker 2: people high and dry, not doing a good job. Not
- 5:44Speaker 2: you know coming back if there's a problem where if
- 5:48Speaker 2: I can talk about the way that we do things,
- 5:50Speaker 2: the way we warranty things, the way we like it
- 5:53Speaker 2: is right in our model, like we service to a fault,
- 5:58Speaker 2: meaning sometimes we fix things that we shouldn't for free,
- 6:03Speaker 2: but we do anyway because once you're part of once
- 6:06Speaker 2: you're part of our family, you're part of our family,
- 6:08Speaker 2: and that's how we take care of it. So making
- 6:09Speaker 2: other contractors better through talking about it is great. And
- 6:14Speaker 2: having contractors from Florida and Washington, Massachusetts, but I lost
- 6:19Speaker 2: count come up to me and say that they want
- 6:21Speaker 2: to run things ethically and morally the way we do
- 6:25Speaker 2: it just made me feel really good.
- 6:26Speaker 1: As you should and it's it's amazing and we're we're
- 6:29Speaker 1: you know we I've talked about having the opportunity to
- 6:31Speaker 1: work with you and work with your team at Arsenal Services.
- 6:34Speaker 1: The old the old adage of a rising tide lifts
- 6:37Speaker 1: all boats, and we're seeing it obviously, the standards being
- 6:41Speaker 1: being great, you know much being risen up here in
- 6:44Speaker 1: Madison for the work that you guys are doing here
- 6:46Speaker 1: at at Larsenoalm Service. And people say, well why And
- 6:48Speaker 1: one of the things I know about you, Andrew, is
- 6:51Speaker 1: because you take the time to do things right, you
- 6:54Speaker 1: build this reputation, which means when a neighbor needs in
- 6:57Speaker 1: the roof, for when when somebody says, you know what,
- 6:58Speaker 1: it's time to upgrade our gun it it. The truth is,
- 7:02Speaker 1: and I don't want to lift the things that expose
- 7:05Speaker 1: at all, but the truth is it's good for the homeowner.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It also ultimately is really good for you and your
- 7:10Speaker 1: team at large home services as well to do things
- 7:12Speaker 1: right by folks.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Well exactly. I mean, that's what keeps us growing, that's
- 7:16Speaker 2: what keeps us busy, That's what keeps guys working, That's
- 7:20Speaker 2: what keeps them getting further ahead in their own lives.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And when other contractors say to me, how can you
- 7:25Speaker 2: put a lifetime workmanship warranty on everything that you do?
- 7:29Speaker 2: I say, how can you not? I mean you're telling
- 7:31Speaker 2: me that, you know, after seven or eight years, someone
- 7:34Speaker 2: calls you back and like, I don't know, shingle blew
- 7:38Speaker 2: off or the roof is leaking. You're not going to
- 7:40Speaker 2: go fix it? They say, well, yeah, probably. I'm like, well,
- 7:42Speaker 2: then put it in writing. Yeah, just put it in writing.
- 7:46Speaker 2: You're going to go fix it, so I mean some will,
- 7:48Speaker 2: some won't. Some Some some contractors run a hard line
- 7:52Speaker 2: on an X amount of year warranty, And for me,
- 7:55Speaker 2: it's just kind of like, I don't know, if if
- 7:58Speaker 2: I sell a couple of their last set of gutters
- 8:01Speaker 2: and their last roof and they have an issue, We're
- 8:02Speaker 2: just going to go back and take care of it.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And also that's I mean, that's what gets us more business.
- 8:08Speaker 2: You know, it's not it's not rocket science. Carrious customers
- 8:12Speaker 2: and they will tell people about it. I mean, we
- 8:15Speaker 2: take care of our customers and we talk loudly about it,
- 8:18Speaker 2: and the news has gotten around to other contractors all
- 8:21Speaker 2: over the country, which was insane to me. But it
- 8:24Speaker 2: makes them better, it makes us better, and when they
- 8:27Speaker 2: think we're at the very top, it just wants me
- 8:29Speaker 2: to keep getting better. What better can we do for
- 8:33Speaker 2: the community, for our customers, What more can we possibly do?
- 8:36Speaker 2: Kind of gets me fired up. So it's more of
- 8:38Speaker 2: a we're very rejuvenating, let's put it that way.
- 8:40Speaker 1: As it should. It doesn't help to Andrews, as anybody
- 8:43Speaker 1: that's driven around town has noticed. There's you've got a
- 8:46Speaker 1: good team. You've gotta you've got to you've got a
- 8:48Speaker 1: large team at Large Home Services. That's got to help
- 8:50Speaker 1: as well. Is the opportunity is is if something needs
- 8:54Speaker 1: to be addressed, you've got the you've got the manpower
- 8:57Speaker 1: to do it. And I think sometimes, you know, as
- 8:58Speaker 1: we go through this, you know, we just got done
- 9:00Speaker 1: with spring. Now that we're into summer, people start start
- 9:04Speaker 1: having having you know, there's people knocking on their door,
- 9:07Speaker 1: Hey we'll do this, we'll do that. Uh, they're there
- 9:10Speaker 1: certainly to when you assign on the thatline, then you
- 9:12Speaker 1: oftentimes don't hear from them. And something. It's got to
- 9:15Speaker 1: help too having just a phenomenal staff and a and
- 9:18Speaker 1: a and a and a large staff as well to
- 9:21Speaker 1: really address any type of concerns and be there for
- 9:24Speaker 1: people when when they're needed, when you're needed.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Sean, And that goes back to when people get estimates
- 9:32Speaker 2: from us and say that you know, we're expensive, and
- 9:37Speaker 2: I say, we're not expensive. We're priced appropriately so that
- 9:42Speaker 2: we can pay all of these people. Because if you
- 9:45Speaker 2: want great service, we have to have the people to
- 9:48Speaker 2: back that up. Right. If every single employee that I
- 9:51Speaker 2: have is always on a job swinging a hammer, then
- 9:56Speaker 2: how can we go back and address warranty issues, service issues. Honestly,
- 10:01Speaker 2: some people just you know, they just want us to
- 10:03Speaker 2: come out and look at something and talk to them.
- 10:06Speaker 2: If every single person I have is always constantly being
- 10:09Speaker 2: run into the ground by you know, being on a
- 10:12Speaker 2: roofing site or be doing gutters or in somebody's attic,
- 10:15Speaker 2: we're not going to be able to get back to
- 10:17Speaker 2: people's homes. So in order to have a staff like that,
- 10:20Speaker 2: in order to have the infrastructure like that, you have
- 10:24Speaker 2: to charge appropriately, you know. Of course, of course there's
- 10:26Speaker 2: profit in a business. If there wasn't profit, then nobody
- 10:29Speaker 2: would do it. But I think some people look at
- 10:31Speaker 2: prices and go, well, that's insane. Well it's not. There
- 10:35Speaker 2: is some left over at the end of the year,
- 10:37Speaker 2: and we don't need to get into details, but like,
- 10:39Speaker 2: there has to be money left over to keep growing,
- 10:41Speaker 2: to keep hiring, to keep trying to get better, to
- 10:43Speaker 2: keep expanding the more locations, to be able to help
- 10:45Speaker 2: more homeowners. And that's always the philosophy. But yes, we
- 10:50Speaker 2: have a great infrastructure of people. We have the best people.
- 10:54Speaker 2: But yeah, we have people that at certain times are
- 10:57Speaker 2: actually on call to do a rapid response roof leaking issue,
- 11:03Speaker 2: someone calls them the roof is leaking. Wellat ninety nine
- 11:06Speaker 2: point n of roofing companies that you called and said
- 11:09Speaker 2: I have a roof leaking, they'd be the great. We'll
- 11:11Speaker 2: get there next week. We can get there while it's
- 11:13Speaker 2: still raining. There's something that we do. We want to
- 11:17Speaker 2: be able to tarpe it, quick fix it until we
- 11:18Speaker 2: can come back really address what the issue is. Sometimes
- 11:21Speaker 2: it's a restore, sometimes it's a new roof, but we
- 11:24Speaker 2: can get there and kind of like you know, uh,
- 11:27Speaker 2: put a tourniquit, put a tourniquit on the wound for
- 11:30Speaker 2: a little while. But it takes people to do that.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It's really good to work too, not only as you
- 11:36Speaker 1: get a you know, we talk about the great you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: the great team around you, the great products. Also feels
- 11:43Speaker 1: really good that you know, like when the job is done,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you as a homeowner can feel good about it that
- 11:47Speaker 1: everything was done right. And you've also got a secret weapon.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You've got your dad Greg as well, who comes by
- 11:52Speaker 1: and checks on all the work as well to make
- 11:54Speaker 1: sure everybody's keeping everything on a very very high level.
- 11:57Speaker 1: It is a great day to pick up phone gimmick
- 11:59Speaker 1: call Larst Home Services six oh eight five three five
