Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
- 0:04Speaker 2: It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
- 0:07Speaker 2: news twice a week. I'm Sophie Torber and coming up
- 0:11Speaker 2: on today's show, did Tammy Hembrough just soft launch her divorce?
- 0:15Speaker 2: Anna McAvoy's strategic baby announcement. But first, three months after
- 0:20Speaker 2: sensationally dethroning Australia's most popular influencer, Michaela Tester has revealed
- 0:25Speaker 2: she's leaving Australia for good. Now, Michaela moves around a lot,
- 0:29Speaker 2: but her home base has always been Australia, and she
- 0:32Speaker 2: speaks really highly of Australia on her TikTok. But this week,
- 0:35Speaker 2: she told her 2.8 million followers that she no longer
- 0:38Speaker 2: feels safe here and is leaving due to youth crime.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Let's have a listen to what she said.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I love Australia.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I think it's one of the most beautiful countries in
- 0:46Speaker 2: the world, but it is just not what it used
- 0:48Speaker 2: to be.
- 0:48Speaker 3: The youth crime in this town where I live.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Is so fucking bad, and everyone knows where I live.
- 0:53Speaker 3: And I don't wanna live here.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I love Australia. I think it's one of the most
- 0:56Speaker 2: beautiful countries in the world, but it is just not
- 0:58Speaker 2: what it used to be.
- 0:59Speaker 3: The youth crime in this town where I live is so.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Fucking bad and everyone knows where I live and I
- 1:04Speaker 1: don't wanna live here anymore.
- 1:05Speaker 3: That's just the truth.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I don't wanna live in Australia anymore.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I don't feel safe here.
- 1:09Speaker 2: And every time I move somewhere, people.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Find out where I live.
- 1:13Speaker 2: This seems to be an issue for a lot of influencers.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It would be really difficult to balance sharing about your
- 1:19Speaker 2: life and being really open, but not giving away where
- 1:22Speaker 2: you live, particularly for lifestyle influencers who have to share
- 1:25Speaker 2: within their home. Yeah, it does seem to be a
- 1:28Speaker 2: growing issue with influencers. I mean, just this week, Chloe
- 1:30Speaker 2: Zepp and Mitch Orville announced that they're moving to Newcastle.
- 1:33Speaker 2: And the reason behind that decision was because they were
- 1:36Speaker 2: involved in a home invasion a couple of years ago,
- 1:39Speaker 2: because people knew where they lived. So they're also looking
- 1:41Speaker 2: for a bit more privacy now. On an international front,
- 1:44Speaker 2: UK influencer Saffron Barker recently spoke about how her home
- 1:48Speaker 2: was robbed while she was on a holiday. So it
- 1:50Speaker 2: definitely seems to be a growing issue for a lot
- 1:52Speaker 2: of influencers. Michaela said that her front door at this
- 1:55Speaker 2: rental property is made of glass and she will often
- 1:58Speaker 2: hear people yelling things to her from the street. She
- 2:00Speaker 2: did say most of the time it has actually been supportive,
- 2:03Speaker 2: but other times it's been degrading comments about her job
- 2:06Speaker 2: as a sex worker. And it seems like this type
- 2:08Speaker 2: of behavior almost turned Michaela into a bit of a
- 2:11Speaker 2: recluse because during the whole Anna Paul saga earlier this year,
- 2:15Speaker 2: she didn't leave her house. Yeah, she really bunkered down
- 2:17Speaker 2: at home. The thing is, she has received such an
- 2:20Speaker 2: outpouring of support for speaking out against the Pauls. And
- 2:23Speaker 2: also she's now seen as this person who's advocated for
- 2:26Speaker 2: sexual assault victims. But that being said, even though it's
- 2:29Speaker 2: all positive, she will attract a lot more attention now
- 2:33Speaker 2: when she's out in public because she's so well-known and
- 2:36Speaker 2: And the thing that would make it quite uncomfortable for
- 2:38Speaker 2: her is she has bared a lot of her soul online.
- 2:41Speaker 2: due to this Anna Paul stuff. She has opened up
- 2:43Speaker 2: about the abuse that she has allegedly suffered at the
- 2:46Speaker 2: hands of Addis Paul. And it would be hard to
- 2:48Speaker 2: go out in public knowing that everyone knows your business.
- 2:51Speaker 2: You would feel like everyone was looking at you and
- 2:53Speaker 2: people were talking about you, even if that wasn't necessarily
- 2:56Speaker 2: the case. Yeah, I think she'll be able to keep
- 2:58Speaker 2: a lower profile overseas. It also means there's less chance
- 3:01Speaker 2: of her running into the Pauls.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing.
- 3:04Speaker 2: They all still live on the Gold Coast. And even
- 3:06Speaker 2: though they do spend a lot of the year traveling,
- 3:07Speaker 2: there is the off chance they would run into each other.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I mean, I suppose they socialise in similar circles as well.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I was really surprised to hear she's moving to Germany,
- 3:17Speaker 2: mainly because that's where the Paul family is originally from.
- 3:19Speaker 2: They've been spending a lot of time there. Yeah, I mean,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I guess maybe she fell in love with the country
- 3:24Speaker 2: when she travelled there with them a lot. She said
- 3:27Speaker 2: she already has a unit in Frankfurt and she's also
- 3:29Speaker 2: been learning German for the past three years. I was
- 3:32Speaker 2: more surprised to find out that she's not moving to
- 3:35Speaker 2: the US as that's where her fiancé Max is from.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And she has always gushed about how much she.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Loves America and would love to be there full time.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I wonder if there's been some issues with her visa. Yeah, well,
- 3:47Speaker 2: recently she was talking about how her and Max had
- 3:50Speaker 2: been kind of arguing about whether they were going to
- 3:52Speaker 2: live in Australia or the U.S. And he really wants
- 3:55Speaker 2: to go back and be with his family. I'm wondering
- 3:57Speaker 2: if that will happen when they finally get married and
- 4:00Speaker 2: she's got a green card. Yeah, I definitely think they're
- 4:02Speaker 2: waiting to get married before making the move to the U.S., Now,
- 4:06Speaker 2: after sharing the news that she's leaving Australia, Michaela decided.
- 4:09Speaker 1: To put up a house tour. And I have to say,
- 4:12Speaker 1: the rental that she has been living at for the
- 4:14Speaker 1: past few.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Years is absolutely epic. It looks like a literal Pinterest board.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And unsurprisingly, this house is available for photo shoots. It
- 4:23Speaker 2: had this real Moroccan vibe to it.
- 4:25Speaker 1: It was massive.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I feel like I know her bedroom very well because
- 4:29Speaker 2: that's where she shot five hours of her YouTube expose
- 4:32Speaker 2: on Annapole. It almost to me looked like a Bali
- 4:35Speaker 2: villa that she was staying in. Well, I got a
- 4:37Speaker 2: bit of flack because when I recently shared that Michaela
- 4:40Speaker 2: Tester was wearing triangle bikinis, I said that she shared
- 4:44Speaker 2: a photo from her holiday in Bora Bora, but it
- 4:47Speaker 2: was actually a photo from her house. So from in
- 4:51Speaker 2: front of her pool, which literally looks like a villa.
- 4:53Speaker 2: It is the most stunning backyard. How much does this
- 4:57Speaker 2: place cost? Well, unsurprisingly, it does cost a lot of money.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So her rent is $ 2, 700 a week.
- 5:03Speaker 1: She revealed that to a follower.
- 5:05Speaker 2: So a lot of followers were doing the sums and saying, well,
- 5:09Speaker 2: that's $ 118, 800 a.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Year just on rent.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Oh, I'm guessing she's making bank on her OnlyFans and
- 5:15Speaker 2: it's probably not that much for her.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 2: A follower did point out though, that while this house
- 5:20Speaker 2: was incredible, there was a rather awkward setup in the bathroom.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So The bathroom had no door that blocked off the toilet. Oh,
- 5:28Speaker 1: I hate that.
- 5:28Speaker 2: She said that it meant that she and her fiancé
- 5:30Speaker 2: Max got to know each other very well, very quickly.
- 5:33Speaker 6: I've just been dealing with some heavy stuff and I
- 5:39Speaker 6: feel like people can tell.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It appears Tammy Hembrough is a step closer to confirming
- 5:44Speaker 2: her breakup with Matt Sikowsky. On Tuesday, the OG Australian
- 5:49Speaker 2: influencer broke down in tears admitting to her 17 million
- 5:52Speaker 2: followers that she's dealing with something heavy. Kate, the writing
- 5:56Speaker 2: has been on the wall for a couple of months now.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Surely this is confirmation. It really felt like.
- 6:01Speaker 1: A divorce soft launch.
- 6:02Speaker 2: And this is coming off the back of months of
- 6:04Speaker 2: bizarre behavior. Tammy and Matt couldn't make it any clearer
- 6:08Speaker 2: that they're living in separate states. They haven't appeared on
- 6:11Speaker 2: each other's socials. Then there's a constant unfollowing and refollowing.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And Tammy ramped it up further this week, posting more
- 6:19Speaker 2: cryptic clues. So last week she was singing to Getaway
- 6:23Speaker 2: Car by Taylor Swift and this week she was singing
- 6:25Speaker 2: to Man Child by Sabrina Carpenter. Here's a clip of
- 6:29Speaker 2: the lyrics she was singing to.
- 6:30Speaker 7: I like my boys playing hard to get And I
- 6:36Speaker 7: like my men all incompetent And I swear they choose
- 6:41Speaker 7: me I'm not choosing.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Them, amen It's absolutely iconic because Sabrina Carpenter actually ended
- 6:50Speaker 2: up resharing this clip. Now, if the message wasn't clear
- 6:53Speaker 2: enough there, on Monday night, Tammy shared a very telling
- 6:56Speaker 2: quote that said, when something feels off, it is. And
- 6:59Speaker 2: she added underneath a woman's intuition. You know, you're deep
- 7:03Speaker 2: in your breakup phase when you're searching quotes like this
- 7:05Speaker 2: on Instagram and doing the reshare, don't you?
- 7:08Speaker 3: I know.
- 7:08Speaker 7: I know.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Now, Tammy's appearance on her Instagram story on Tuesday morning
- 7:12Speaker 2: was the real nail in the coffin. So she started
- 7:14Speaker 2: out chatting to the camera as she made breakfast.
- 7:17Speaker 1: And from the get-go, she seemed really flat.
- 7:20Speaker 2: And I originally thought it was one of those fake
- 7:22Speaker 2: chats influencers do when they need to plug their products.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And maybe that's what it actually was to begin with
- 7:28Speaker 2: because she started plugging a supplement brand and a fitness app. However,
- 7:32Speaker 2: when she sat down with her breakfast, things got real.
- 7:35Speaker 2: So Tammy thanked her followers for their support and conceded
- 7:38Speaker 2: that she's been going through a difficult time.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Here's what she said.
- 7:42Speaker 6: I also just want to jump on and say, like,
- 7:46Speaker 6: thank you to everyone because I've just been dealing with
- 7:50Speaker 6: some heavy stuff. And I feel like people can tell. Like,
- 7:54Speaker 6: I definitely don't like to, like, pretend I'm okay when
- 7:57Speaker 6: I'm not. I feel like I have been. trying to
- 8:00Speaker 6: do that for a little while um because you know I.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Have so much that I have to focus on but
- 8:07Speaker 4: I just feel like it's doing me more harm than
- 8:09Speaker 4: good I just want to say thank you I am
- 8:13Speaker 4: you know feeling positive today um.
- 8:19Speaker 8: And you know I don't really like to talk too
- 8:24Speaker 8: much about stuff like when I'm in the midst of
- 8:27Speaker 8: it just because it can feel like it can put
- 8:32Speaker 8: even like more pressure and feel even more overwhelming. So
- 8:35Speaker 8: I just want to like go with the motions of.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It all kind of thing.
- 8:43Speaker 8: And then, you know, talk about it at some point later.
- 8:47Speaker 3: When you are, oh my gosh, I'm trying to do
- 8:49Speaker 3: this without like splinters. When you are dealing with things,
- 8:55Speaker 3: whatever it may be, whether it works just to hectic
- 8:59Speaker 3: your personal life, just own personal internal struggles or whatever
- 9:04Speaker 3: it may be. I feel like having an online community
- 9:08Speaker 3: like you guys just is really helpful and just makes
- 9:12Speaker 3: you feel.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Now, it was at that point that the Instagram story
- 9:16Speaker 2: cut out. And I think it's quite clear that things
- 9:18Speaker 2: just got too much for Tammy. It looked like she
- 9:20Speaker 2: was about to break down in tears. And rather than
- 9:23Speaker 2: returning on camera, Tammy wrote on her Instagram story, sorry guys,
- 9:27Speaker 2: couldn't get through it with crying face emojis. What I'm
- 9:30Speaker 2: trying to say is I really appreciate you all. And
- 9:33Speaker 2: especially when you're going through something, having an online community
- 9:36Speaker 2: like you guys can really just help to make you
- 9:38Speaker 2: feel less alone. So I really appreciate that. And I
- 9:42Speaker 2: don't take that for granted. And I love you all
- 9:44Speaker 2: so much. Now there will be some naysayers that'll say
- 9:48Speaker 2: Tammy didn't specify that she was talking about a marriage
- 9:50Speaker 2: and maybe something else is troubling her. I personally am 99%
- 9:54Speaker 2: sure that this is about Matt.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing.
- 9:57Speaker 2: We shared this on our TikTok and also our... Instagram,
- 10:00Speaker 2: and there were a couple of Tammy followers who were
- 10:03Speaker 2: saying there's potentially a lot of things that she could
- 10:05Speaker 2: be talking about. I mean, recently last week, we touched
- 10:09Speaker 2: on her scandal involving the camels in Egypt. There's also
- 10:12Speaker 2: been some dramas surrounding her brother. There has been a
- 10:16Speaker 2: lot going on, but I think it is quite clear
- 10:18Speaker 2: that this is about her relationship breakdown with Matt. I mean,
- 10:21Speaker 2: the timing of it all was very telling. I think
- 10:25Speaker 2: that this is her way of addressing the Matt situation
- 10:27Speaker 2: ahead of some big milestone events. So Tammy spoke about
- 10:31Speaker 2: how it's her daughter Posey's third birthday on the weekend
- 10:35Speaker 2: and she's holding a birthday party. Matt also has a
- 10:38Speaker 2: big birthday coming up. He's turning 30 on the 3rd
- 10:40Speaker 2: of July and he spoke about having a Christmas in
- 10:43Speaker 2: July themed party months ago. So he's already been away
- 10:48Speaker 2: for Tammy and Wolf's birthday as well as Easter. I
- 10:52Speaker 2: think that it's at this point she's really had to
- 10:54Speaker 2: come out and say, look, something's not quite right. And
- 10:57Speaker 2: it seems like she is following a very similar strategy
- 11:00Speaker 2: to how she dealt with her breakup from her former fiance,
- 11:03Speaker 2: Matt Paul, the other Matt. Matt Paul suddenly was nowhere
- 11:07Speaker 2: to be seen and basically just got phased out of
- 11:10Speaker 2: her social media very slowly and And this is despite
- 11:13Speaker 2: the fact that the couple had just welcomed their daughter
- 11:16Speaker 2: Posey together. And Tammy basically didn't say anything until it
- 11:20Speaker 2: was so obvious that she didn't really need to make
- 11:23Speaker 2: this huge announcement.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:25Speaker 2: And this is totally what's happening at the moment. I mean,
- 11:27Speaker 2: she said herself, she doesn't like talking about things when
- 11:31Speaker 2: she's in the midst of them happening. So I think
- 11:34Speaker 2: that when maybe things have calmed down, she will address it.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I'm interested though, because I've read her book and she
- 11:40Speaker 2: spoke about how she's Never going to go into the
- 11:43Speaker 2: details about her breakups with Rhys Hawkins and Matt Paul
- 11:47Speaker 2: because she has children with them. But she doesn't have
- 11:49Speaker 2: children with Matt Sikowsky. So I wonder if that will
- 11:51Speaker 2: change her approach about dishing the dirt. Oh, I hope
- 11:54Speaker 2: she goes in hard. I would love to hear what
- 11:57Speaker 2: has really been going on. There has been a bit
- 12:00Speaker 2: of speculation that the couple can't actually announce their separation
- 12:04Speaker 2: due to their deal with Vogue. So they exclusively gave
- 12:07Speaker 2: the publication their wedding story back in November last year.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I highly doubt it. I don't think Vogue has the
- 12:14Speaker 2: power to put these types of things into a contract.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I mean, TV shows like The Bachelor can because that's
- 12:20Speaker 2: how the couple met and they signed contracts before they
- 12:23Speaker 2: go on and find the.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Love of their life.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I think it's more that Tammy and Matt would be
- 12:28Speaker 2: trying to save face. They know that if they come
- 12:30Speaker 2: out and that their marriage only lasted three months and
- 12:34Speaker 2: It looks way worse than if they can say that
- 12:36Speaker 2: this marriage lasted a year or eight months or whatever
- 12:40Speaker 2: it may be.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 2: It's pretty interesting because Influencer Updates AU put a post
- 12:45Speaker 2: up about what Tammy said and Tammy's best friend, Isabel Laws,
- 12:49Speaker 2: liked it. I mean, that speaks volumes to me.
- 12:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I am wondering if perhaps Tammy and Matt finalized things
- 12:56Speaker 2: on the weekend because it does appear as though Matt
- 12:59Speaker 2: flew into the Gold Coast. because he shared that he
- 13:02Speaker 2: was at a Gold Coast brewery watching the footy, as
- 13:05Speaker 2: he seems to.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Be doing a lot of.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Tammy also posted around the same time with a face
- 13:10Speaker 2: mask on asking for documentary recommendations. So they weren't spending
- 13:14Speaker 2: time together, but perhaps they had a prior meetup to.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Iron out a few of the things going on.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I mean, Matt has been lying pretty low on socials.
- 13:22Speaker 2: He did the most horrendous ad I've ever seen. Actually,
- 13:26Speaker 2: that's a lie. He also did one for koala mattresses recently,
- 13:29Speaker 2: and it was so bad. that it got over 1
- 13:31Speaker 2: million views on TikTok because everyone was shit canning it
- 13:34Speaker 2: in the comments. What about his ad for the numbing
- 13:37Speaker 2: cream for his tattoo removal on his ass?
- 13:40Speaker 1: That was very bad.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Sorry, there's been a string of really bad ads. Anyway,
- 13:45Speaker 2: his most recent ad was promoting a shower caddy, which
- 13:48Speaker 2: made me laugh. And I need to throw to the
- 13:51Speaker 2: audio to give it justice.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Introducing the Tool Wall by Toolertrees. If you're in need
- 13:57Speaker 5: of a stylish, sleek shower caddy like myself, Well, look
- 14:01Speaker 5: no further because the tool wall is for you. The
- 14:05Speaker 5: tool wall is a shower caddy but better. It holds
- 14:08Speaker 5: up to five kilos and has five hooks for storage
- 14:11Speaker 5: so you can store all of your essentials. This is
- 14:14Speaker 5: the ultimate grooming station. It keeps all of your products
- 14:17Speaker 5: and tools in the same spot. It's easy to set
- 14:20Speaker 5: up and even easier to use.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Like this man has a podcast, like an audio platform,
- 14:25Speaker 2: like his voiceovers are so bad. If this isn't a
- 14:30Speaker 2: big enough sign that they're getting a divorce, I don't
- 14:32Speaker 2: know what is because he's obviously desperate for cash and
- 14:35Speaker 2: he needs to do these tacky ads.
- 14:36Speaker 1: It's so bad.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Now, someone commented under the video, notice the left hand
- 14:41Speaker 2: is hiding, to which Matt replied, okay, Sherlock Holmes, I
- 14:45Speaker 2: actually don't shower with my ring on, but that's none
- 14:47Speaker 2: of your business. Now there was a bit of a
- 14:49Speaker 2: back and forth and Matt hit back to the commenter
- 14:51Speaker 2: saying that they had a sad life caring about other
- 14:54Speaker 2: people's relationships.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Again, why is he responding?
- 14:58Speaker 2: It seems like he's desperate to build up some engagement
- 15:00Speaker 2: on this post because it is an ad. But do
- 15:02Speaker 2: you notice none of them ever shut it down and say,
- 15:04Speaker 2: we are still together.
- 15:05Speaker 1: They just leave it.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Well, it's fantastic for their engagement. People want to go
- 15:08Speaker 2: and check out their pages. I know I'm constantly looking
- 15:11Speaker 2: at Tammy's page to see if she's taken down mrs
- 15:14Speaker 2: zakowski from her bio and to see if she's following
- 15:17Speaker 2: that yes i am one of those sad people but
- 15:19Speaker 2: i say it is for my job but this is
- 15:22Speaker 2: the best way to attract people's attention i mean if
- 15:25Speaker 2: tammy hembrough didn't have as many relationship breakdowns as she
- 15:28Speaker 2: has had i don't think she would still be so
- 15:31Speaker 2: relevant i mean No one is tuning in for the
- 15:33Speaker 2: constant stream of ads about Tammy Fit or Saskia or
- 15:36Speaker 2: this new supplements company. Just back to Matt's hands for
- 15:39Speaker 2: a second. I was listening to a pre-recorded episode of
- 15:42Speaker 2: his podcast, Where's Your Head At? And he went on
- 15:45Speaker 2: this rant about how nice his hands are and that
- 15:49Speaker 2: they look really manly.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I was like, oh, it was so cringe. Now, is
- 15:53Speaker 1: he playing up his wrestler character there?
- 15:56Speaker 2: Because listeners will remember a couple of weeks ago that
- 15:58Speaker 2: we spoke about how Matt is into amateur wrestling and
- 16:02Speaker 2: a few years ago he played a character who had
- 16:04Speaker 2: apparently won the genetic lottery.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Or is that just him? That's just him.
- 16:10Speaker 2: It actually reminded me of that Seinfeld episode where George
- 16:13Speaker 2: becomes a hand model and ends up burning them. Now,
- 16:17Speaker 2: back to Tammy. Do you think her breaking down on
- 16:20Speaker 2: Instagram this week could be a little bit of damage
- 16:23Speaker 2: control also for not showing up at a supplement brand's activation?
- 16:26Speaker 2: Because On Friday night, her and her sisters flew out
- 16:30Speaker 2: to Sydney and they were meant to be hosting this
- 16:33Speaker 2: activation for their supplement brand Selfish at Bondi. Now, the
- 16:37Speaker 2: trip didn't really get off to a good start because
- 16:40Speaker 2: their flight was delayed and they ended up arriving at
- 16:42Speaker 2: their hotel to find that it had a nightclub underneath it,
- 16:46Speaker 2: which wasn't really conducive with them having to get up
- 16:48Speaker 2: at 5am. Now, Tammy was supposed to lead a workout
- 16:52Speaker 2: on Bondi Beach with 100 lucky competition winners. However, she
- 16:57Speaker 2: didn't show up and her manager told fans that she
- 17:00Speaker 2: was feeling unwell and wouldn't be attending. Emily and Amy
- 17:04Speaker 2: still appeared though. And according to people who attended the event,
- 17:08Speaker 2: they just didn't have the same pulling power as Tammy.
- 17:10Speaker 2: So there really weren't that many people there. I was
- 17:13Speaker 2: surprised to see how empty it was. If you think
- 17:16Speaker 2: back to the crowds that Anna Paul drew when she
- 17:19Speaker 2: did a shopping center appearance, It was nothing on that.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Even her appearances with High Smile. Like I remember she
- 17:26Speaker 2: did one before Taylor Swift's Ears Tour and it was
- 17:29Speaker 2: absolutely packed. They had security guards there. It appears that
- 17:33Speaker 2: Tammy made an appearance at the end of this event
- 17:36Speaker 2: so that she could appear in the promotional photos and
- 17:39Speaker 2: fans were less than impressed with this event. Many people
- 17:42Speaker 2: complained about the lack of products on offer to taste
- 17:44Speaker 2: as well as the fact that hats were given out
- 17:47Speaker 2: as prizes. And one fan shared that they were so
- 17:51Speaker 2: upset because they spent $ 100 on an Uber to get
- 17:53Speaker 2: to Bondi and didn't even get to take home a
- 17:56Speaker 2: sample of the protein powder. The only thing that they
- 17:59Speaker 2: got was a hat. And I don't know if you'd
- 18:00Speaker 2: want to be wearing one of those hats. They have
- 18:02Speaker 2: been compared to Donald Trump's MAGA hats. So it's probably
- 18:05Speaker 2: not the best look. Do we think that Tammy Hembrough
- 18:08Speaker 2: was legitimately sick? Because I call bullshit on that. There's
- 18:12Speaker 2: a rumor going around that perhaps she met up with
- 18:15Speaker 2: Matt the night before the I don't know how Matt
- 18:18Speaker 2: was suddenly in Sydney.
- 18:19Speaker 1: He lives in Melbourne.
- 18:20Speaker 2: So it might be a little bit of a stretch.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Maybe she's just going through it at the moment. Can
- 18:24Speaker 2: you imagine how pissed off her sisters would have been?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Because that would have put so much extra pressure on them.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And it's just so obvious, particularly when there's a call
- 18:32Speaker 2: time of 5am. I'm sorry, the person is not sick.
- 18:36Speaker 2: They either just don't want to get up, don't want
- 18:38Speaker 2: to face it, or something is going on in their
- 18:41Speaker 2: personal life.
- 18:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Well, Tammy does have a chance to redeem herself this weekend.
- 18:45Speaker 2: So in Brisbane, Selfish is doing another pop-up in the
- 18:48Speaker 2: Queen Street Mall. I'll be interested to see how that
- 18:51Speaker 2: one goes. After keeping followers in suspense for almost a week,
- 19:03Speaker 2: Anna McEvoy finally announced the arrival of her baby boy
- 19:06Speaker 2: and his much-anticipated name. The reality contestant-turned-fake-tan entrepreneur cleverly took
- 19:12Speaker 2: advantage of the peak engagement, simultaneously dropping baby updates alongside
- 19:17Speaker 2: details of a new product launch. So despite building up
- 19:21Speaker 2: the hype, sadly, Anna was pipped at the post when
- 19:23Speaker 2: it came to the name reveal.
- 19:25Speaker 1: That's right.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Instagram account Influencer Updates AU received a rather strong tip
- 19:30Speaker 2: off about the baby name on Friday night, and she
- 19:33Speaker 2: decided to share it with her subscribers. So in the post,
- 19:37Speaker 2: the Watchdog account also revealed that Anna had most likely
- 19:40Speaker 2: given birth to her baby boy a week earlier because
- 19:44Speaker 2: a handful of followers had spotted them out and about.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Now, the Instagram story.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Revealed the name didn't last long and was removed about
- 19:53Speaker 2: half an hour later.
- 19:54Speaker 1: My guess is.
- 19:55Speaker 2: That Anna or her husband Michael reached out to Amber
- 19:59Speaker 2: demanding that she take it down. I mean, I can
- 20:01Speaker 2: understand that. She's waited so long and she has really
- 20:05Speaker 2: been trying to pump it up because leading into her birth,
- 20:08Speaker 2: she was asking followers to guess the name and she
- 20:10Speaker 2: kept talking on her podcast about how no one had
- 20:13Speaker 2: guessed it right. Now, the tip-off ended up.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Being bang on.
- 20:16Speaker 2: On Sunday night, the couple revealed they named their son
- 20:19Speaker 2: Suede Ashton Staples, sharing a cute photo of his little
- 20:23Speaker 2: foot as well as a family snap following the C-section.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Side note, have you ever seen such a glamorous C-section photo? Like,
- 20:30Speaker 2: I'm feeling a bit of pressure here because... I'm not
- 20:33Speaker 2: long away from having my C-section. And I'm like, holy fuck,
- 20:36Speaker 2: they looked incredibly glamorous. Oh, she looked absolutely stunning. I
- 20:41Speaker 2: thought the same thing. I mean, it made me pissed
- 20:43Speaker 2: off because I was like, I looked like shit. I
- 20:44Speaker 2: looked like a foot.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I had no makeup on, no tan. I had no
- 20:47Speaker 1: Goldie B tan on. See, I think that's how most
- 20:50Speaker 1: of us probably look.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I know.
- 20:51Speaker 1: But I mean, let's be fair.
- 20:53Speaker 2: She is a model.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Now, in the comments section of this name announcement, a
- 20:57Speaker 2: follower shared their disappointment, writing... Unfortunately, someone ruined it and
- 21:01Speaker 2: commented on your last post revealing his name.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Beautiful name though.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Now, I want to point out that that wasn't Amber
- 21:07Speaker 2: from Influencer Updates AU, but presumably one of her subscribers
- 21:11Speaker 2: who was commenting the name on Anna's page. Anna ended
- 21:14Speaker 2: up responding to that comment writing, I know, with a
- 21:17Speaker 2: crying face and broken heart emojis.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It did make me feel.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Quite sad for her, as you say, Kate, because revealing
- 21:23Speaker 2: your child's name, it must be such a special moment
- 21:25Speaker 2: and one that they have waited for for quite some time. Yeah,
- 21:28Speaker 2: I think it's a double whammy in this case as well,
- 21:30Speaker 2: because she was really trying to get engagement off it.
- 21:33Speaker 2: And particularly because it's a very unusual name. So I
- 21:38Speaker 2: personally was quite surprised when I heard it. Everyone knows
- 21:42Speaker 2: I love traditional names. So Suede is never really going
- 21:45Speaker 2: to be, you know, up there on my list.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Each to their own.
- 21:49Speaker 2: But I did see someone point out that it sounded
- 21:51Speaker 2: like a Bets and Bets winter collection, like suede staples.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I really don't think that this was the name reveal
- 21:59Speaker 2: that she was hoping for. And I don't think she
- 22:01Speaker 2: quite anticipated the wave of negativity that was set to
- 22:04Speaker 2: come her way because quite a number of animal activists
- 22:08Speaker 2: weighed in questioning why she would name her son after
- 22:11Speaker 2: such a cruel practice. One follower wrote, if people knew
- 22:14Speaker 2: how cruel suede is, No one would want to name
- 22:17Speaker 2: a newborn baby with that horrible name. It's associated with evil.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Bailey from Warrior for Animals, who we spoke about on
- 22:23Speaker 2: last week's episode in relation to Tammy's camel incident, he
- 22:28Speaker 2: shared his thoughts, writing, terrible name for many reasons, but
- 22:31Speaker 2: particularly concerning a suede is animal skin, and her son
- 22:34Speaker 2: could become uncomfortable with that due to becoming concerned about
- 22:38Speaker 2: animal welfare, a vegan, fashion week banning animal skin. It
- 22:42Speaker 2: is a name that if the child grows up to
- 22:44Speaker 2: have values against that material, will make them feel uncomfortable.
- 22:48Speaker 2: It's like naming a child bacon, but then becoming a
- 22:50Speaker 2: vegan or deciding to be Muslim. I think it was
- 22:53Speaker 2: a case of bad timing for Anna McAvoy coming off
- 22:56Speaker 2: the back of all the animal activists focusing on Tammy
- 22:59Speaker 2: Hembrough's behavior in Egypt. I think maybe she wouldn't have
- 23:03Speaker 2: got this outpouring of negativity if they hadn't been watching
- 23:07Speaker 2: so closely. There's also been a lot of discussion and
- 23:10Speaker 2: debate around her strategy for sharing this birth announcement. particularly
- 23:15Speaker 2: because she has been doing it alongside continual promotions around
- 23:19Speaker 2: her fake tanning company, Goldie B. I mean, for influencers,
- 23:23Speaker 2: name reveals and birth announcements are huge business. These occasions
- 23:27Speaker 2: are always going to deliver an influencer their biggest engagement boost.
- 23:32Speaker 2: And ultimately, it's going to lead them to having more
- 23:34Speaker 2: followers and increasing their revenue. It has been very clear
- 23:38Speaker 2: through Anna's pregnancy that she is keen to move into
- 23:41Speaker 2: this motherhood space. She's released a mothering podcast. The majority
- 23:45Speaker 2: of her content when you look at TikTok is all
- 23:48Speaker 2: around her pregnancy. And I know that a lot of
- 23:51Speaker 2: women and a lot of our listeners who are pregnant
- 23:54Speaker 2: have really enjoyed following her journey and she's been quite
- 23:57Speaker 2: successful at sharing this type of content. And I think
- 24:00Speaker 2: it has been really fascinating to watch the way that
- 24:03Speaker 2: she has chosen to roll out this birth announcement because
- 24:06Speaker 2: she's probably one of the first Aussie influencers I've seen
- 24:09Speaker 2: to breadcrumb it.
- 24:10Speaker 1: To this extent.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Sarah's day was a fiend for this when she gave
- 24:14Speaker 2: birth to her first son, Fox, around six years ago.
- 24:17Speaker 2: But more recently, influencers have been doing paired back birth announcements.
- 24:23Speaker 2: And I think it's because it's a bit taboo now
- 24:26Speaker 2: to be seen to be exploiting the birth of your
- 24:29Speaker 2: child and exploiting that child.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Well, it's seen as.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Being a bit opportunistic and as if you're trying to
- 24:33Speaker 2: push your own agenda and your own brand. Now, getting
- 24:37Speaker 2: into the way that Anna shared her announcement, It first
- 24:40Speaker 2: started last week when she shared a video of herself
- 24:43Speaker 2: being wheeled in for her cesarean. And in the clip,
- 24:46Speaker 2: she mimed to the viral song, Oh My God, I'm
- 24:48Speaker 2: Having a Baby. And she captioned the post, It's Happening. Now,
- 24:52Speaker 2: the next day, she then uploaded another reel where she
- 24:56Speaker 2: and her husband transitioned from their clothes into their hospital gown.
- 25:00Speaker 2: And she captioned it, C-section incoming. Now, it was another
- 25:04Speaker 2: further three days before she actually announced her son's safe arrival.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Writing, here he is our greatest love.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Now in this video, she shared close-up shots of Suede's lips.
- 25:16Speaker 2: And I have to say, this baby looks absolutely gorgeous.
- 25:19Speaker 2: His lips are enormous. He looks like a model baby.
- 25:22Speaker 1: He's stunning.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Yeah, they really stood out to me as well, I suppose,
- 25:26Speaker 2: because they were the focus of the video. It's interesting
- 25:28Speaker 2: that she's not showing his face. I wonder if that
- 25:30Speaker 2: will continue. Yeah, we did have to wait a further
- 25:34Speaker 2: 24 hours after that post before we got the big
- 25:36Speaker 2: name reveal. which attracted 28,000 likes, the most out of
- 25:40Speaker 2: any of her posts. And what has been really interesting
- 25:43Speaker 2: throughout this drip feeding of this baby news is that
- 25:45Speaker 2: Anna has been making sure to simultaneously share posts about
- 25:49Speaker 2: her business's new product, which is conveniently launching on the
- 25:53Speaker 2: 15th of June. So in a few days, as we said,
- 25:56Speaker 2: she does own a fake tan company and they are
- 25:59Speaker 2: launching a new gradual tanner. And it's been a bit
- 26:01Speaker 2: of an ad sandwich. So for instance, when Anna finally
- 26:04Speaker 2: shared her son's name, She reshared that post to her
- 26:07Speaker 2: Instagram story and wrote his name is dot dot dot.
- 26:10Speaker 2: So that Instagram story would have attracted a lot of
- 26:13Speaker 2: views and a lot of attention.
- 26:14Speaker 1: It was then followed.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Immediately by a slide which provided an early access link
- 26:20Speaker 2: to her new gradual tanner. She then followed it up
- 26:23Speaker 2: by resharing another family snap to her Instagram story and
- 26:27Speaker 2: it was then immediately followed by another screenshot of a
- 26:30Speaker 2: positive review about GoldieBee. Yeah, I noticed this too. And
- 26:34Speaker 2: I found it quite overt. Like I've never seen an
- 26:37Speaker 2: influencer do it that obviously before. We've had quite a
- 26:41Speaker 2: few listeners writing in saying that they felt a bit
- 26:43Speaker 2: icky about it. And originally I did too until I
- 26:47Speaker 2: really sat with it and I thought, why do I
- 26:50Speaker 2: feel this way? And it actually made me change my
- 26:53Speaker 2: opinion because Anna is a new mum who is embarking
- 26:56Speaker 2: on maternity leave. And Anyone who runs their own business
- 27:00Speaker 2: and is forced to take government-funded maternity leave knows that
- 27:04Speaker 2: the pay is very minimal.
- 27:05Speaker 1: It is a struggle to live off that paycheck.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I was really shocked to see how little women receive,
- 27:11Speaker 2: particularly when you consider that women giving birth before the
- 27:15Speaker 2: 1st of July also receive no payment towards their super
- 27:18Speaker 2: during that time, which is just So disgusting. I do
- 27:21Speaker 2: want to point out, though, it's progressively getting better. Like
- 27:24Speaker 2: it's a very positive step that super will now be
- 27:26Speaker 2: included as of July 1st, 2025. I just think it's
- 27:30Speaker 2: absolutely ridiculous, though, that women on maternity leave are being
- 27:33Speaker 2: paid minimum wage when you consider how high mortgages are
- 27:38Speaker 2: and how ridiculous the cost.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Of living is at the moment.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And it just made me think, why is it a
- 27:42Speaker 2: bad thing that Anna is hustling and hustling hard in
- 27:45Speaker 2: the lead up to her birth? I actually think it's
- 27:47Speaker 2: a really savvy business move from her because why wouldn't
- 27:51Speaker 2: you strike when you know that you have optimal eyeballs
- 27:53Speaker 2: on your page and interest in what you're doing? And
- 27:56Speaker 2: I think with the influencer landscape being so oversaturated, we're
- 28:01Speaker 2: really living in a time where there's a real disparity
- 28:03Speaker 2: between what influencers are earning. And for Anna, when you
- 28:06Speaker 2: look at where she lives, she lives in a fairly
- 28:08Speaker 2: modest apartment. I would assume that she's not making mega
- 28:12Speaker 2: bucks off her influencer career. I mean, she'd be making
- 28:15Speaker 2: decent money, but not amazing money.
- 28:17Speaker 1: And I think it is so hard for.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Mums to keep their businesses and side hustles going during
- 28:23Speaker 2: the early stages of motherhood. So why not utilise your
- 28:26Speaker 2: social media following at the most optimal time for you?
- 28:29Speaker 2: I mean, Sophie, you're about to embark on maternity leave.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I have experienced it recently and we both own businesses.
- 28:36Speaker 1: It's bloody difficult.
- 28:37Speaker 2: And I think if a male was doing this, people
- 28:40Speaker 2: wouldn't even notice it.
- 28:41Speaker 1: They'd be like, whatever.
- 28:42Speaker 2: But I think we do hold women to a certain account,
- 28:45Speaker 2: particularly when they become mums, because it's like, well, how
- 28:48Speaker 2: dare you use this beautiful moment as a chance to
- 28:52Speaker 2: plug your business?
- 28:53Speaker 1: But guess what?
- 28:53Speaker 2: She's trying to earn money to look after her baby.
- 28:55Speaker 2: And I think it's pretty clever the way she has
- 28:57Speaker 2: been plugging her brand. I have been on the fence
- 29:00Speaker 2: about purchasing it myself. And some of the reviews, I'm like, well,
- 29:04Speaker 2: maybe I will pull the trigger. Yeah. And the tactic
- 29:06Speaker 2: does seem to be working for her because over the
- 29:08Speaker 2: last 30 days, her following has grown by 3,200 followers.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Let's get into our Friday debrief. And Sophie, I'm getting
- 29:17Speaker 2: really sad because this is your last podcast episode before
- 29:21Speaker 2: you give birth.
- 29:22Speaker 1: It feels so weird. Like it's all coming together.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Around so quickly and I think because Amy's been on
- 29:29Speaker 2: leave and I've been really tuned into both of the
- 29:31Speaker 2: businesses and it's taken up all of my attention I've
- 29:36Speaker 2: almost forgotten that I'm about to have a baby so
- 29:38Speaker 2: I don't like letting go of the podcast I just
- 29:42Speaker 2: I feel a bit emotional that I'm not going to
- 29:44Speaker 2: be able to be on the mics for a couple
- 29:46Speaker 2: of weeks I am hoping that I'm going to be
- 29:48Speaker 2: able to make some cameo appearances and pop up here
- 29:52Speaker 2: and there along the way we actually did splash out
- 29:54Speaker 2: and buy a recorder each so now we've got a
- 29:57Speaker 2: separate recorder at our house which We should have done
- 30:00Speaker 2: bloody years ago, particularly maybe, Kate, when you had Jack
- 30:03Speaker 2: because it's been so much easier to record from home. Yeah,
- 30:07Speaker 2: I think that's going to be a game changer for us.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Now we just need to sync up all of the boys'
- 30:11Speaker 2: naps and we'll be fine.
- 30:13Speaker 1: We won't even need babies. Oh, absolute piece of piss,
- 30:15Speaker 1: I'm sure.
- 30:16Speaker 2: But, yeah, I'm really excited for the next couple of weeks,
- 30:19Speaker 2: a little bit scared, but I think it will be
- 30:22Speaker 2: really exciting and I can't wait to meet my little boy. Well,
- 30:26Speaker 2: I actually have my little boy sitting on my lap
- 30:28Speaker 2: at the moment because we are recording from home and
- 30:31Speaker 2: someone had to get up from their nap. So he
- 30:33Speaker 2: is absolutely loving trying to grab the microphone off me. Definitely,
- 30:37Speaker 2: I don't think we can record when they are awake
- 30:39Speaker 2: because this is quite difficult. But I have Jack's first
- 30:42Speaker 2: birthday party this weekend and I am so excited for it.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I've been making lolly bags. I'm set to make the
- 30:49Speaker 2: cake today. And I've decided to make the teddy bear
- 30:52Speaker 2: cake from the Women's Weekly Cookbook. And the other day
- 30:57Speaker 2: I picked up this big cake board to put it on.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I've got all the lollies ready to go. I have
- 31:01Speaker 2: actually been eating some of them, so I might have
- 31:03Speaker 2: to do a restock. But I'm just so excited. I've
- 31:05Speaker 2: always dreamt of the moment to make my son's first
- 31:08Speaker 2: birthday cake.
- 31:09Speaker 1: So it's very exciting for me.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Why do I feel like there's going to be some
- 31:11Speaker 2: meltdowns tomorrow? Because I don't think that that is an
- 31:13Speaker 2: easy cake to make. You did ask me whether you
- 31:15Speaker 2: should do the one or the teddy bear. My vote
- 31:17Speaker 2: was for the one because you're trying to avoid any mistakes.
- 31:21Speaker 1: But, no, I'm really excited for Jack's birthday cake. Well,
- 31:24Speaker 1: the one can always be a backup.
- 31:25Speaker 2: So if I do end up posting a photo of
- 31:27Speaker 2: the one cake, that's what happened.
- 31:29Speaker 1: It hasn't worked out.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Well, I think that is all we have time for today.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Thank you so much for joining us for this episode.
- 31:35Speaker 2: I will miss being on the mics with everyone, but
- 31:37Speaker 2: hopefully I will be back soon, especially to share my
- 31:40Speaker 2: birth episode, which I'm sure we'll record in the not
- 31:44Speaker 2: too distant future. But thank you again for joining us.
- 31:46Speaker 2: This episode was recorded on the traditional land of the
- 31:49Speaker 2: Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to
- 31:52Speaker 2: elders past and present. Thank you.
