- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Telugu with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 104! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. And we've learned so much already. Today, we're going back to the bookstore. Luna: Oh, I loved the bookstore episode. But are we buying another book? Lucas: Not exactly. Today we're going to learn how to ask about the price, say it's too expensive, ask for a discount, and ask for a bag. Luna: Ooh, bargaining. Very useful. Lucas: Exactly. So let's start. The first phrase is: ఈ పుస్తకం ఎంత? Luna: ఈ పుస్తకం ఎంత? Lucas: Perfect. That means 'How much is this book?' Let's break it down. ఈ means 'this', పుస్తకం means 'book', and ఎంత means 'how much'. Luna: So literally 'this book how much'. Lucas: Right. Let's say it together. ఈ పుస్తకం ఎంత? Luna: ఈ పుస్తకం ఎంత? Lucas: Good. Now imagine the seller says the price and it's too high. You can say: ఇది చాలా ఖరీదు. Luna: ఇది చాలా ఖరీదు. Lucas: That means 'This is very expensive.' ఇది means 'this', చాలా means 'very', and ఖరీదు means 'expensive'. Luna: So you're saying the price is too much. I like it. Lucas: Yes. Now, if you want to ask for a discount, you say: డిస్కౌంట్ ఇస్తారా? Luna: డిస్కౌంట్ ఇస్తారా? Lucas: That means 'Will you give a discount?' డిస్కౌంట్ is borrowed from English, and ఇస్తారా means 'will you give'. Luna: So it's a polite request. Lucas: Exactly. And finally, after you buy the book, you might need a bag. Say: నాకు ఒక సంచి కావాలి. Luna: నాకు ఒక సంచి కావాలి. Lucas: That means 'I need a bag.' నాకు means 'to me', ఒక means 'one', సంచి means 'bag', and కావాలి means 'need'. Luna: So you can literally say 'I need one bag'. Good. Lucas: Right. Let's practice a little scene. I'll be the shopkeeper. You come to my bookstore and ask about a book. Luna: Okay. ఈ పుస్తకం ఎంత? Lucas: I say: ఇది ఐదు వందల రూపాయలు. Luna: That's 500 rupees! Too expensive. ఇది చాలా ఖరీదు. Lucas: Good. Then you ask: డిస్కౌంట్ ఇస్తారా? Luna: డిస్కౌంట్ ఇస్తారా? Lucas: I say: అవును, పది శాతం డిస్కౌంట్. Luna: Ten percent off. Nice. And then I'd say: నాకు ఒక సంచి కావాలి. Lucas: Perfect. You handled the whole conversation. Luna: Thanks. These phrases feel really practical. Lucas: You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Telugu, it would mean a lot if you could support the show. Just a couple of dollars a month genuinely keeps these going. It's buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps us keep making episodes. And we really appreciate it. Lucas: Okay, back to practice. Let's go through all four phrases one more time. First: ఈ పుస్తకం ఎంత? Luna: ఈ పుస్తకం ఎంత? Lucas: ఇది చాలా ఖరీదు. Luna: ఇది చాలా ఖరీదు. Lucas: డిస్కౌంట్ ఇస్తారా? Luna: డిస్కౌంట్ ఇస్తారా? Lucas: నాకు ఒక సంచి కావాలి. Luna: నాకు ఒక సంచి కావాలి. Lucas: Great job. Now you're ready to haggle at a Telugu bookstore. Luna: I'll try it next time I'm in Hyderabad. Lucas: That's the spirit. Practice these phrases until we meet again. Luna: See you next time!
