- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Very glad to say Irene has stopped and we are back outside.
- 0:34So it's lovely. Very early morning girls are all
- 0:39out here clucking around and getting broody for the season,
- 0:43which cracks me up because today I wanted to talk to you about
- 0:47working on knowledge. And this is a funny thing
- 0:50because the more you understand about chickens in general, the
- 0:54more you want to study chickens. And there's so much to
- 0:56understand and know and the hierarchy and everything else
- 1:00that goes on. And broody chickens tend to be
- 1:04very difficult to deal with. And broody just means that they
- 1:07want to sit on eggs, they want to take a bunch of eggs and they
- 1:10go through these moods and they're very indignant.
- 1:15They puff up like a giant marshmallow and they just want
- 1:18to sit on eggs for 21 days and have babies.
- 1:20Now some of them, there's, it's a crapshoot.
- 1:23You never know when they're going to be good at it and when
- 1:24they're not going to be good at it.
- 1:26So I have a couple that are very good at it and then I have a
- 1:28couple of new ones that are from last year's chicks that really
- 1:31want to do this right now and they're all walking around
- 1:33puffed up. It looks quite funny.
- 1:35But knowledge base, right, That's what we're talking about
- 1:38today, knowledge base. So I am very big on constant and
- 1:43never ending learning. So I'm going to come right out
- 1:45and say if you are not identifying yourself as a
- 1:48constant and never ending learner, I am going to suggest
- 1:52that you go and start adding that to your identity.
- 1:55I am a constant and never ending learner.
- 1:58That's what you have to tell yourself so that you seek out
- 2:01knowledge, you seek out information, you seek out
- 2:04expertise, you try to learn as much as you can and even if you
- 2:07read something on a subject, you don't take that one thing to be
- 2:11all there is to it. Now I have read many books on
- 2:14chickens, understanding their language, their different
- 2:17clocks, but guess what? I still keep reading, I still
- 2:21keep searching, I still keep studying and I still keep making
- 2:24observations because I actually have a knowledge base myself, as
- 2:29well as, which is practical in the moment from years ago and
- 2:33now the last few years. Doing this, having them here, as
- 2:38well as many, many, many books on it and studying them, being
- 2:42broody is really what's quite fascinating to me because
- 2:45there's no rhyme or reason as to when it starts.
- 2:48Like it's winter, Why would she want to sit on eggs and bring
- 2:50babies in the cold? Who knows?
- 2:52Like, I still keep trying to seek out these answers and
- 2:55there's a lot of speculation on a lot of things.
- 2:58But again, the point today is knowledge base, knowledge base,
- 3:01knowledge base. So whatever it is that you want
- 3:04your knowledge base on, you have to own the fact that you're
- 3:07willing to do it and keep learning it.
- 3:09Just like with the vegetables and the gardening and the
- 3:11flowers. So I recently signed up to take
- 3:15Florette Flowers course and it it's for people who are wanting
- 3:19to create a flower farm, I like to to actually make money with
- 3:23it. Now I certainly don't want to
- 3:24change my business to go from being a creative strategist and
- 3:28executive mindset coach over to being a flower farmer full time
- 3:31where I'm making money from it. However the point of doing that
- 3:35is it creates a knowledge base for me between you teaching you
- 3:41guys learning myself and melding the world of farming and growing
- 3:47animals, vegetables, all of that into ourselves.
- 3:52So taking this course very in depth, expanding my knowledge
- 3:56base massive can I use it to cross pollinate over 100%.
- 4:01So the point of of this exercise today is to ask you what do you
- 4:06want to learn this year, What is your focus for what you want to
- 4:11expand on your knowledge base. Now for those of you who are in
- 4:15technical fields, if you're at engineering, if you're doctors,
- 4:20if you're lawyers, if you're always in your own knowledge
- 4:23base, it is highly beneficial to do something that is not part of
- 4:28your standard knowledge base. Just like me studying mindset,
- 4:31psychology, neuroplasticity, all of that stuff, it's fantastic.
- 4:37I do it all the time and I cross pollinate because there are
- 4:41things that I can pull from these other areas of my life.
- 4:45The farming, the growing the chickens, all of that into
- 4:49common understandings for everybody to understand.
- 4:52And it helps me stay focused, sharp and and keep learning.
- 4:58So the point is, find something outside of your field to study
- 5:02and watch what happens. Because not only do you become
- 5:05happier and more fulfilled, but you actually feel smarter.
- 5:09I'm not even joking. You actually feel smarter
- 5:11because you're learning something new.
- 5:13You're not just adding to the same old, same old.
- 5:15It's fun to do that. However, it's a lot more fun
- 5:19when you learn something out out just outside of the realm and
- 5:23and just your normalcy and and feel spectacular in the process
- 5:28of doing it. Like, it's very funny because
- 5:30while I'm talking to you about this and using these broody
- 5:33chickens as a metaphor, I took all of the girls out that were
- 5:36broody sitting in their egg boxes waiting for other chickens
- 5:38to lay eggs. Because they don't lay eggs when
- 5:40they're broody. And then all of a sudden they'll
- 5:43they'll pirate the other eggs from other chickens and then
- 5:46they'll sit on them and they'll scream at them and they won't
- 5:48let them have them. So I emptied them all.
- 5:50I made them come out and eat breakfast because they won't
- 5:52even eat. They won't drink.
- 5:53They'll just sit in there for 21 days and I make them come out
- 5:57and eat and drink, and then they'll go back in if they're
- 5:59sitting on eggs. If they're not, I just keep
- 6:01taking them out throughout the day.
- 6:03This little girl, Delilah, our rescue girl from last year, this
- 6:07little girl, she is a hoot. She's decided that she's going
- 6:10to sit on eggs and she is part Americana.
- 6:14She Raven is her dad and her mother is a Leghorn and they
- 6:19tend to be very stubborn breeds, both of them.
- 6:22And she is beyond stubborn and she is so large right now.
- 6:28I took her out twice before I started shooting the podcast and
- 6:31she just hauled her butt right back in there again.
- 6:34She went and ate breakfast, hauled her butt right back in,
- 6:36found the only box that I had an egg in.
- 6:39Somebody had laid an egg early and she's now sitting on it
- 6:42again. So do you see why this is
- 6:44fascinating to me to figure out this piece of the puzzle?
- 6:47Because what makes her drive? What makes her want that drive?
- 6:51Anyway, I need to go read. All right, my friends, have a
- 6:54blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:56Bye.
