- 0:00Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, Welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:02Speaker 2: It's time now for Car Talk brights on Shiny Thursday,
- 0:05Speaker 2: and we have Brad dunchuson here from the DUNGEUS Toyota
- 0:09Speaker 2: and you brought brands, yes I did. Once again. Good
- 0:12Speaker 2: morning everyone out there. Thank you for joining us this morning.
- 0:15Speaker 2: We're so glad you're with us again today. What a
- 0:17Speaker 2: week it's been, the crazy weather. I hope everybody's staying
- 0:21Speaker 2: warm and safe out there. It was kind of another
- 0:24Speaker 2: beautiful morning at the dealership despite all the ice and
- 0:28Speaker 2: slush or a former slush for Nesday afternoon. I've got
- 0:33Speaker 2: Laura Jensen here from a couple of great things in Bartlesville.
- 0:37Speaker 2: More than that, really, I mean where you have. But
- 0:41Speaker 2: you know I see almost every Monday at Rotary. You're
- 0:45Speaker 2: our chairperson this year, and thank you for that service
- 0:48Speaker 2: my pleasure. Yeah, Rotary is a great organization with a
- 0:51Speaker 2: long history here in Bartlesville. And then you're also the
- 0:55Speaker 2: president and CEO of the Bartlesville Community Foundation. Yes, I
- 0:59Speaker 2: am so thank you again for your service. You do
- 1:03Speaker 2: great stuff for our community and it's.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Really my pleasure.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Both of those roles are incredibly important to me. And
- 1:09Speaker 3: so I'm glad that I get to serve in this way.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I think you know, a lot of people
- 1:14Speaker 2: don't really understand what a community foundation does. I mean
- 1:18Speaker 2: those that are involved, and you're the one that Bartsol
- 1:21Speaker 2: has been here for a long time, but the reality
- 1:25Speaker 2: is still there's probably a lot of people listening going
- 1:27Speaker 2: what is that?
- 1:29Speaker 4: And so let's just start there.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Okay, happy to so.
- 1:33Speaker 3: An analogy that I like to use that seems to
- 1:35Speaker 3: be pretty well received is like the community Foundation is
- 1:38Speaker 3: a philanthropic bank. As if you were to go to
- 1:41Speaker 3: any of the banks or credit unions in town, you'd
- 1:43Speaker 3: go in and you'd look for an account type that
- 1:45Speaker 3: fit whatever financial goal you are trying to achieve, checking account, savings, account,
- 1:49Speaker 3: et cetera. The Community Foundation has different fund types that
- 1:53Speaker 3: help community members, organizations, businesses achieve a charitable goal. Okay,
- 1:59Speaker 3: So we are a nonprofit organization. We act as an
- 2:01Speaker 3: umbrella and those funds we call component funds, and it's
- 2:05Speaker 3: everything from a family who wants to start a scholarship,
- 2:07Speaker 3: to an organization who wants to build an endowment, to
- 2:10Speaker 3: a group of community volunteers who want to start a
- 2:13Speaker 3: project that our community needs to start, but maybe they're
- 2:16Speaker 3: not quite ready to go out and get the nonprofit
- 2:18Speaker 3: status that lets them be their own organization.
- 2:20Speaker 4: That's kind of the generation of ideas and the community.
- 2:24Speaker 2: It sounds like really exactly, that's awesome. And I mentioned
- 2:30Speaker 2: I know, it's how long has it been going in
- 2:32Speaker 2: mon in Borrowsville.
- 2:33Speaker 3: It's been quite twenty six years. We started in nineteen
- 2:37Speaker 3: ninety nine. Last year was our twenty fifth anniversary. Last
- 2:40Speaker 3: December was our twenty fifth anniversary, so we you know,
- 2:44Speaker 3: we were twenty six years old, and we've granted more
- 2:49Speaker 3: than gosh, I couldn't even imagine last year alone with
- 2:52Speaker 3: granted two point nine million dollars to the community from
- 2:54Speaker 3: the funds that we host.
- 2:55Speaker 2: So that compounded is just scholarship grants, specific family things.
- 3:02Speaker 4: I mean, I know, it's just there's how many funds
- 3:05Speaker 4: are there.
- 3:06Speaker 3: We have almost two hundred funds that we manage it
- 3:10Speaker 3: and we've recently grown to just under thirty million dollars
- 3:13Speaker 3: in assets. So all of those funds represent a balance,
- 3:16Speaker 3: and those balances are going and doing grant making work
- 3:18Speaker 3: in our community. Like I said, from scholarships, last year
- 3:21Speaker 3: we awarded around one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in
- 3:25Speaker 3: scholarships to local students, and we span not just bartles well,
- 3:29Speaker 3: not just Washington County. Some of those funds and scholarships
- 3:31Speaker 3: impact students in the Osage County area, the Nowada County area,
- 3:35Speaker 3: and then across the county of Washington County.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and not unlike the Bartswel Rotary Club that you
- 3:42Speaker 2: were one of the first in Oklahoma, I think if.
- 3:45Speaker 4: I remember right.
- 3:46Speaker 3: So there's only five community foundations in the state of
- 3:49Speaker 3: Oklahoma that are independent. There are a handful more, but
- 3:52Speaker 3: they are under the umbrella of those five. So we,
- 3:55Speaker 3: for example, we work closely with.
- 3:57Speaker 1: The Nowada Community Foundation. They're under our ball, but they are.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Their advisory board represents no what a best, so they
- 4:04Speaker 3: know what no what it needs.
- 4:05Speaker 1: We don't. We're just here to do the back office.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I also like to say we do the boring stuff
- 4:08Speaker 3: so they can go offro to the fun stuff.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Well, that's so much always going on there and I
- 4:15Speaker 2: know we'll get back to that. And I want to
- 4:17Speaker 2: talk about the Rotary Club too, because it has a
- 4:19Speaker 2: long history here in Bartlesville as well.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yes, a few car things, we had some great news.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Just this morning, Toyota announced that they were the top
- 4:29Speaker 2: selling vehicle brand in the world once again last year
- 4:32Speaker 2: with over eleven point three million vehicles sold. And just
- 4:38Speaker 2: perspective there, Number two, which is the German Volkswagen Auto Group,
- 4:43Speaker 2: came in at nine point four million, so almost a.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Two million vehicle lead.
- 4:48Speaker 2: That's great, which is incredible, and you know many of
- 4:51Speaker 2: those the strength was in the US once again. The
- 4:56Speaker 2: US and Japan makeup about almost fifty percent of the
- 5:00Speaker 2: vehicles Toyota cells right now, and great growth in America.
- 5:05Speaker 2: In the USA and the Toyota Rav four is our
- 5:10Speaker 2: best selling vehicle. And then the Tacoma also and just
- 5:14Speaker 2: a couple of days ago this week it was announced
- 5:17Speaker 2: that Tacoma was selected as the Texas Truck of the
- 5:22Speaker 2: Year once again, second year in a row. The Tacoma
- 5:25Speaker 2: Tacoma beats out all the half ton trucks in the industry,
- 5:30Speaker 2: and that's really cool. Tacoma is historically one of our
- 5:36Speaker 2: best selling vehicles. The brand new model they came out
- 5:39Speaker 2: with back in twenty twenty three has just done exceptionally well.
- 5:44Speaker 2: It's got great power trains and over eleven different trim levels,
- 5:49Speaker 2: so you can package the vehicle up the way you want,
- 5:53Speaker 2: whether you're wanting to go off roading and outdoors ing,
- 5:56Speaker 2: maybe a trail hunter or a TRD pro model, or
- 6:00Speaker 2: if you just you're looking for economy and a great
- 6:04Speaker 2: less expensive truck there you can get them starting under
- 6:09Speaker 2: forty thousand dollars. They're great value vehicle, great residual values.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Toyota Tacoma maintains its value over time better than just
- 6:20Speaker 2: about any vehicle in the entire industry, and it makes
- 6:24Speaker 2: for a great truck. And we're really proud to have
- 6:28Speaker 2: those and you have well, we've only got a couple
- 6:31Speaker 2: on the ground right now.
- 6:32Speaker 4: We've got an allocation coming.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I believe about fifteen more Tacomas that'll be here in
- 6:37Speaker 2: the next few weeks. So really exciting time here as
- 6:42Speaker 2: we get going in twenty twenty six. We're you know,
- 6:45Speaker 2: I mentioned in the last few weeks how strong we were,
- 6:48Speaker 2: especially at the end in twenty twenty five. As we've
- 6:51Speaker 2: been growing and meeting our sales objectives each month, we've
- 6:55Speaker 2: been able to excuse me, grow our overall inventory quite
- 6:59Speaker 2: a bit, and we're continuing.
- 7:02Speaker 4: To do that.
- 7:03Speaker 2: We're already at our objective as far as Toyota sets
- 7:07Speaker 2: an objective for us every month and it's important to
- 7:09Speaker 2: exceed that in order to get allocated more vehicles. We've
- 7:13Speaker 2: hit it this month for January already and have until
- 7:18Speaker 2: Monday night to keep selling a few more. So we're
- 7:22Speaker 2: looking to put a few more deals together and finish
- 7:25Speaker 2: off the month really strong. And I know as inventory
- 7:29Speaker 2: is going to keep building this year.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I think we had.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Probably around thirty that will arrive next month and during
- 7:37Speaker 2: the month, and it was looking good for going forward
- 7:41Speaker 2: in March and April. Still have a lot of great
- 7:44Speaker 2: interest in the brand new RAB four. We still haven't
- 7:48Speaker 2: been able to deliver one. They're on hold as they
- 7:50Speaker 2: try to build up, but everyone we've been allocated so
- 7:54Speaker 2: far is pre sold. Somebody's put their name on it already.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I think it's going to be a new new leader and.
- 8:02Speaker 4: A great hit.
- 8:04Speaker 2: It's a brand new, redesigned GRAB four with more trim levels,
- 8:09Speaker 2: kind of similar to what Tacoma has done, where you
- 8:11Speaker 2: can have a more urban model or a more rugged
- 8:15Speaker 2: outdoors model, economy or power, whatever you're looking for will
- 8:22Speaker 2: be available in the RAP four. I mean, and I'm
- 8:26Speaker 2: talking real power with a gr Kazoo Racing version of
- 8:30Speaker 2: the RAP four for the first time ever.
- 8:32Speaker 1: So that's yeah.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I'm excited to see what one of those is like.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So the great news for Toyota. And like I said,
- 8:43Speaker 2: we'll get back to a community foundation. But let's talk
- 8:47Speaker 2: rotary for a minute. You know, the Rotary Club is
- 8:51Speaker 2: just one of those another community building organizations.
- 8:55Speaker 1: PAS civic organization.
- 8:58Speaker 2: It's focused on really bringing networking. I mean in a
- 9:02Speaker 2: lot of ways. That's what we do is bring in
- 9:04Speaker 2: people every day every week. We meet on Monday at
- 9:07Speaker 2: noon at the community center and our club there's a
- 9:10Speaker 2: morning club as.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Well, and there's actually a satellite club as all the
- 9:14Speaker 3: three rotary clubs in Bartlesville.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Huh, but you are at the Bartlesville Rotary Club is
- 9:20Speaker 2: our new club noon club.
- 9:22Speaker 4: And it goes back to what nineteen fifteen.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yes, I was going to say, we just passed maybe
- 9:28Speaker 3: our one hundred and ten anniversary at the club, which
- 9:31Speaker 3: I believe we were also one of the first rotary
- 9:33Speaker 3: clubs in the state of.
- 9:34Speaker 4: I believe that's true.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I might be making that up, but I'm going to
- 9:37Speaker 1: go ahead and.
- 9:38Speaker 2: I know it's true. And because I was around the
- 9:42Speaker 2: back when we celebrate our hundredth of year.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Well it was only ten years ago.
- 9:47Speaker 2: That I've been a member for over twenty five years now,
- 9:51Speaker 2: and that you know, it's just a great thing, a
- 9:53Speaker 2: great program. I love the camaraderie of getting there, and
- 9:58Speaker 2: you know, kind.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Of the patterns of where we said when.
- 10:01Speaker 2: We when we have our meetings with and the great
- 10:04Speaker 2: programs that you bring in and you know, there's always
- 10:09Speaker 2: something to learn, there's there's a chance to see other
- 10:12Speaker 2: people in the community, and and we have the great
- 10:17Speaker 2: foundational value stuff the Four Way Test and the Code
- 10:20Speaker 2: of Conduct and stuff which are great.
- 10:22Speaker 3: All the things that tie us together locally and with
- 10:25Speaker 3: the national organization.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and uh, you know, I think back when we started,
- 10:30Speaker 2: Bartlesville was one of the I mean, for sure one
- 10:33Speaker 2: of the smallest clubs really in Rotary because it was
- 10:37Speaker 2: it started in Chicago, and that's in the original clubs
- 10:41Speaker 2: were in large cities and and thanks to the leaders
- 10:45Speaker 2: here in Bartlesville, a lot of the folks from Phillips
- 10:47Speaker 2: and and other organizations really saw what was happening.
- 10:52Speaker 4: There and wanted to bring Rotary here.
- 10:54Speaker 2: And I'm sure I know it was one of the
- 10:57Speaker 2: handful of small community Rotary Club, and the fact that
- 11:01Speaker 2: it's kept going and through all the changes.
- 11:04Speaker 3: And.
- 11:06Speaker 2: You know that in life and in our community, and
- 11:09Speaker 2: it does you know again, it does remain relevant by
- 11:14Speaker 2: giving to in promoting certain things in our community, giving
- 11:20Speaker 2: grants every year, right with books for first graders, I think, so.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They're dictionaries for third graders. But also we have the
- 11:30Speaker 1: grant program.
- 11:30Speaker 3: That does support the I think has supported the public
- 11:34Speaker 3: schools foundations, Dolly Parton Library, So definitely books in multiple ways.
- 11:39Speaker 3: The mission focuses on youth and education, so anything in
- 11:43Speaker 3: youth and education is where the focus stays.
- 11:46Speaker 1: When those in the high school yep, yep.
- 11:49Speaker 3: So I think that they've they've got quite a group
- 11:51Speaker 3: of high school students running the Rotary Interact Club at
- 11:55Speaker 3: the high school on site, and so those students are
- 11:58Speaker 3: learning how to run a eating how to represent an organization,
- 12:02Speaker 3: how to live within the four way test. And then
- 12:05Speaker 3: we had just recently the speech contest was last week
- 12:08Speaker 3: and so I don't know if the names of those
- 12:10Speaker 3: students have been announced, so I will not announce them,
- 12:15Speaker 3: but I know that those students wrote intentional essays and
- 12:20Speaker 3: gave them to a panel of judges, which I would
- 12:22Speaker 3: find very intimidating.
- 12:25Speaker 1: To those students, right.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And we have the speech contest, kids come and give
- 12:31Speaker 2: their speeches to the to the club. I think through that,
- 12:36Speaker 2: you know a lot of our great meetings or that
- 12:39Speaker 2: that's one of them. One is when the when the
- 12:41Speaker 2: choir high school, the high school choirs and does their holidays, the.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Jazz choir, that one's always entertaining.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Choir, and when they have other programs going on a
- 12:50Speaker 2: lot of times we get a glimpse into to what's
- 12:53Speaker 2: going on there. And so the talent of the youth
- 12:56Speaker 2: here in Borrosville is just you know, really.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Celebrate that we do.
- 13:01Speaker 3: And I love that they do visit because then we're
- 13:03Speaker 3: reminded that that talent pipeline is still very very strong.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:06Speaker 3: But we have kids here that are doing incredible things
- 13:08Speaker 3: and we just get to see a little bit of
- 13:09Speaker 3: their a little bit of their gifts.
- 13:11Speaker 4: And uh, you know.
- 13:12Speaker 2: And Rotary is a membership organization, So it's something where
- 13:16Speaker 2: we are always looking for people who were wanting to
- 13:19Speaker 2: connect and meet people from you know, really all kinds
- 13:23Speaker 2: of businesses and industries or your you know, a business owner,
- 13:28Speaker 2: a corporate work in a bank or a corporation, you know,
- 13:33Speaker 2: every every walk of life. And that's the way Rotary
- 13:36Speaker 2: is all over the world. And it really is a worldwide.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Organized international Yep. That's that's it is. It's part. It's
- 13:43Speaker 1: our small piece of something that's global.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and we talked about the four way test. That's
- 13:49Speaker 2: a cool thing.
- 13:50Speaker 4: We we do.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Uh uh we we you know, we've stopped singing. I
- 13:56Speaker 2: want to give a shout out to Harvey and I
- 13:58Speaker 2: always give him trouble that we don't seeing every lunch.
- 14:02Speaker 2: So those of you who used to come and haven't
- 14:05Speaker 2: been in a while, come on back and see the
- 14:07Speaker 2: little changes we've had in the club dynamic.
- 14:10Speaker 4: But the four way test is something we always recite.
- 14:14Speaker 2: At the beginning of our meetings with the pledge of allegiance,
- 14:18Speaker 2: yes and.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Our prayer, and we start our meeting with the business.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Those business items are very important.
- 14:24Speaker 2: So I'll just say the four way test so people
- 14:26Speaker 2: get an idea what we're talking about here. But of
- 14:29Speaker 2: the things we think, say or do, is it the truth?
- 14:32Speaker 2: Is it fair to all concerned? Will build goodwill and
- 14:35Speaker 2: better friendships, will be beneficial to all concerned, And that's
- 14:39Speaker 2: a pretty good test.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I fantastic test. It's a good marker of anything, right, right.
- 14:44Speaker 2: It really does kind of set the tone for every meeting,
- 14:48Speaker 2: and it is I really enjoy being part of Rotary.
- 14:54Speaker 2: You know.
- 14:55Speaker 4: It was one of those things I wasn't sure when
- 14:57Speaker 4: I started, you.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Know what it was, And well, you don't, no, And
- 15:00Speaker 3: now I kind of have a list of folks that
- 15:02Speaker 3: I want to try and catch at Rotary, right, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 3: So we go and we see the see the membership,
- 15:07Speaker 3: and there's there's always someone that sparks on an idea
- 15:10Speaker 3: or or oh I need to make sure I catch them,
- 15:12Speaker 3: and so it's a great networking time. But to your point,
- 15:15Speaker 3: in the legacy of the organization, you know, we still
- 15:18Speaker 3: have members. We have members that have been members for
- 15:20Speaker 3: sixty plus years. Yeah, it's incredible. I mean, in those
- 15:24Speaker 3: those individuals are still committed to coming to Rotary every Monday.
- 15:27Speaker 3: We are grateful for their membership. We also have, you know,
- 15:31Speaker 3: a good population of members that have been around for one, two, three, four,
- 15:35Speaker 3: five years that will continue.
- 15:36Speaker 2: It so important to get new people in the community
- 15:39Speaker 2: and people who don't know what Rodary is, younger people
- 15:42Speaker 2: into the club, and that's that's so if you are interested,
- 15:46Speaker 2: just come some Monday to visit.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Monday visit is.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Monday at noon.
- 15:51Speaker 2: We'll uh, you know, we'd love to meet you and
- 15:55Speaker 2: you know, introduce you as a guest, and I'm sure
- 15:58Speaker 2: we find somebody who buy you a lot cheap.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yes, yes, melodies serves lunch, yes, good, great lunches for me.
- 16:04Speaker 3: You'll at least get a great warm lunch on Mondays
- 16:07Speaker 3: at New Net Rotary.
- 16:09Speaker 2: It's a great time and you know, you do get
- 16:12Speaker 2: you know, when you sit down at your table often
- 16:14Speaker 2: you know there's really people from all over town, every industry.
- 16:19Speaker 2: You get an update every week and what's going on,
- 16:22Speaker 2: what's important to people, and it's it is a great.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Great thing.
- 16:27Speaker 3: And those those program folks that are running the scheduling
- 16:31Speaker 3: of all the things that we get to listen to,
- 16:32Speaker 3: they've done an incredible job this year and many all
- 16:35Speaker 3: of the years that I've been part of Rotary. There's
- 16:37Speaker 3: different themes a bit with each year, but we've had
- 16:39Speaker 3: some really awesome, great state leadership and regional leadership and
- 16:43Speaker 3: industry folks come in and talk to us about what's
- 16:45Speaker 3: all kinds.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Of people and whether they're in government at the state level, locally, federally,
- 16:51Speaker 2: all kinds of you know, sometimes the member presentation where
- 16:57Speaker 2: people talk about.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Their fantastic this year.
- 17:00Speaker 2: You really do learn so much. You know, you think
- 17:02Speaker 2: you know someone, but you don't really.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Know, not at all.
- 17:07Speaker 3: We just know what they show us on Mondays at
- 17:09Speaker 3: noon for the thirty minutes we get to chat. But man,
- 17:12Speaker 3: give them an hour and tell them to start at
- 17:13Speaker 3: the beginning. And it's incredible the stories they tell.
- 17:16Speaker 4: It is awesome. So, you know, put on your other
- 17:20Speaker 4: hat again.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Okay, let's go back to the Community Foundation and so
- 17:25Speaker 2: what's going on this time of year?
- 17:26Speaker 4: What are you guys working on? And you know planned
- 17:28Speaker 4: for twenty twenty six.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Spring really launches that are you know, the new year
- 17:32Speaker 3: really launches us into a busy season.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Spring is full for us.
- 17:36Speaker 3: So the grants and scholarship applications are open right now
- 17:39Speaker 3: students that are interested in applying for scholarships or in
- 17:43Speaker 3: need of that funding for school.
- 17:45Speaker 1: We have thirty five scholarships that we host.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Again, that's around one hundred and sixty thousand dollars that
- 17:50Speaker 3: we award every well now is every year because the
- 17:53Speaker 3: most of those are returning scholarships.
- 17:55Speaker 1: So those are close to the end of February.
- 17:57Speaker 3: So if you're a student graduating high school or if
- 17:59Speaker 3: you're in college, we'll have some scholarships that are for
- 18:02Speaker 3: students in college rather than going into.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Their first specific programmatic things.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Some of them are yeah, some of them are generals,
- 18:09Speaker 3: just apply and since if the scholarship committee has an
- 18:12Speaker 3: incredibly challenging job sorting through that information and making those
- 18:16Speaker 3: award recommendations.
- 18:18Speaker 1: But some of them are very specific.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Some of them are for someone in the medical field,
- 18:22Speaker 3: some of them are just for females and stems. Some
- 18:25Speaker 3: of them are just STEM. We have a couple for aviation.
- 18:29Speaker 3: So there's a good variety of scholarships on there. Some
- 18:32Speaker 3: of them are very focused on families with higher financial need,
- 18:36Speaker 3: and some of them don't have a preference for that.
- 18:38Speaker 3: They're more focused on academic achievement. And so there's a
- 18:42Speaker 3: great variety of scholarships on the website.
- 18:44Speaker 4: No what else after the scholarship time.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Right, So following right onto that scholarships organizations looking for
- 18:51Speaker 3: grant funding. We have our grants open right now and
- 18:55Speaker 3: so they I think we have four grants open. We
- 18:58Speaker 3: have some that are very general, some that are focused
- 19:00Speaker 3: on youth and a couple that are focused for organizations
- 19:03Speaker 3: providing arts services and arts programming.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So there's also a great variety.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Of and in addition to funding organizations, don't you also
- 19:12Speaker 2: provide resources to them and information help them. I mean
- 19:17Speaker 2: in all kinds of ways.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Talk about that well.
- 19:19Speaker 3: So the Community Foundation has worked really hard to become
- 19:22Speaker 3: an accredited foundation. So we are one of the only
- 19:25Speaker 3: you know, there's five independent foundations, three of them are
- 19:28Speaker 3: nationally accredited and we're one of them Tulsa and Olamoma
- 19:30Speaker 3: City or the other two. And so we've worked really
- 19:34Speaker 3: hard to put those those best practices in place, and
- 19:37Speaker 3: so we want to share that expertise with organizations in
- 19:39Speaker 3: twent help make sure that they're operating the best they
- 19:41Speaker 3: can do their stewarding donor dollars and we want to
- 19:43Speaker 3: make sure that it's done well.
- 19:45Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 19:46Speaker 2: So it really is a network for nonprofits and that
- 19:51Speaker 2: community development part of Artlesville, which is so rich and
- 19:55Speaker 2: really the theme of the show. If you ever listen
- 19:58Speaker 2: to us every week, I always it's love to have
- 20:01Speaker 2: some kind of a program about what's going on in Bartowsville,
- 20:04Speaker 2: often with a nonprofit or something else interesting that's that's
- 20:08Speaker 2: starting or happening around Bartolesville, and you guys kind of
- 20:11Speaker 2: provide that foundation that makes a lot of that happen
- 20:15Speaker 2: in the background.
- 20:17Speaker 1: A lot of times we are you know, we do
- 20:18Speaker 1: thrive in the background.
- 20:19Speaker 3: We're here to help support other folks stand up, whether
- 20:22Speaker 3: that's a family that wants to start a fund that
- 20:24Speaker 3: does grant making, or an organization that's building their endowment
- 20:27Speaker 3: or just wants to learn how.
- 20:27Speaker 1: To do their business better.
- 20:30Speaker 3: So that's we really kind of thrive in that in
- 20:32Speaker 3: that shadow space because we're not here to take that attention.
- 20:36Speaker 1: We're here to help everyone else thrive.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know it does. You do have a
- 20:41Speaker 2: lot of resources, and you know a responsibility comes with
- 20:44Speaker 2: that to take care of those resources and invest them wisely.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I know you spend a lot of time working on
- 20:50Speaker 2: that as well.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yes, and that's a lot of where our board sits
- 20:54Speaker 3: in our board responsibility. We have thirteen board members and
- 20:57Speaker 3: they're very strong finance and legal minds, but also we
- 21:01Speaker 3: try to keep a good cross section of the community
- 21:03Speaker 3: in that space so that we have you know, good
- 21:05Speaker 3: perspectives and all of our committees and and everything.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So we do with the you know, with the accreditation process.
- 21:13Speaker 3: We have to have really strong finance policies, really strong
- 21:16Speaker 3: endowment management. You know, that's kind of the leads into
- 21:19Speaker 3: the boring stuff, right that we get to take care of.
- 21:21Speaker 4: So it's awfully important.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It's incredibly important.
- 21:24Speaker 3: But you know, if if we've got it all, all
- 21:26Speaker 3: of our tea's crossed and I is dotted, then that
- 21:28Speaker 3: just means we get to do our work better.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So what if somebody's interested, say they've listened to this
- 21:33Speaker 2: and they are there, they want to create some kind
- 21:36Speaker 2: of they're passionate about something.
- 21:37Speaker 4: We want to start something. Uh, what do they need
- 21:40Speaker 4: to do? How does it work? When you're right?
- 21:42Speaker 3: So have an idea, come to the office, let's brainstorm.
- 21:46Speaker 3: That's those are the most fun conversations. And when someone
- 21:48Speaker 3: wants to do something good and contribute to the community
- 21:51Speaker 3: and we get to figure out what what makes sense
- 21:53Speaker 3: for them?
- 21:55Speaker 4: And do you guys do fundraising on your own?
- 21:57Speaker 3: Don't We don't host any fundraisers, so we do have
- 22:01Speaker 3: an event in the fall, but it is a celebration
- 22:03Speaker 3: event and we actually give twenty million.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Gosh, if we gave twenty million away, that we can
- 22:07Speaker 1: sell twenty.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Thousand dollars a big difference twenty thousand dollars away at
- 22:11Speaker 3: that event to an organization, and then we recognize a
- 22:16Speaker 3: community member that's been nominated by fellow citizens.
- 22:19Speaker 1: So that's been a really fun transition for us. Uh huh.
- 22:22Speaker 3: We don't host fundraisers. We do have an endowment that
- 22:25Speaker 3: supports most of our operating to do host component funds.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Somebody can donate, somebody can donate.
- 22:30Speaker 3: We do not want to turn away a donation that
- 22:33Speaker 3: if supporting our mission is what you want to do, we're.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Happy to help you do that. But we don't do
- 22:39Speaker 1: a fundraising event.
- 22:40Speaker 4: Okay, that's awesome. So you're.
- 22:45Speaker 2: This rich organization and is there anything else people need
- 22:48Speaker 2: to know, ways to volunteer, any any opportunities like that
- 22:52Speaker 2: out there, right?
- 22:52Speaker 3: So I would say that the thing that we couldn't
- 22:55Speaker 3: use the most is folks talking about what the foundation does.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Make sure if you know a senior that's that's graduating
- 23:00Speaker 3: and looking for scholarships, or an organization that wants it
- 23:03Speaker 3: engaged in grant application processes, or maybe maybe you're serving
- 23:08Speaker 3: on a board and you want to know what you
- 23:09Speaker 3: should be looking for as a board member. You know,
- 23:11Speaker 3: when I joined an organization, you know, what do I
- 23:14Speaker 3: look for in their bylaws? What makes it an organization
- 23:18Speaker 3: that I want to serve on more than just its
- 23:20Speaker 3: It meets the need that I like.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Well, I've had an idea recently, okay, and so it's
- 23:25Speaker 2: the you know, basically there's all these organizations now helping
- 23:29Speaker 2: people get their feet on the ground, right Whitehouse nehemyah
- 23:34Speaker 2: be the light. Often those people end up with transportation
- 23:38Speaker 2: needs as they're getting their life going again, and we've
- 23:41Speaker 2: seen that we've had this year.
- 23:43Speaker 4: We had a.
- 23:45Speaker 2: One of our customers bring in somebody they knew that
- 23:48Speaker 2: was in that situation whose car had died, and between
- 23:52Speaker 2: us and the customer, we helped.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Them get a new vehicle. Sure, you know, I.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Was thinking maybe there would be a space there where
- 23:59Speaker 2: we could create some kind of fun where people could
- 24:01Speaker 2: apply that would give help attract more and more resources
- 24:04Speaker 2: because we can only do one offs really and kind
- 24:07Speaker 2: of as needs come up, well, you know, one of
- 24:10Speaker 2: the I know it's there. I was talking to someone
- 24:13Speaker 2: at them I yesterday and they were they were mentioning
- 24:16Speaker 2: how you know that they had somebody who needed help
- 24:19Speaker 2: with the car, and you know, obviously if you're getting
- 24:22Speaker 2: if you're looking to rebuild your life for whatever reason,
- 24:26Speaker 2: you know, that's so important having a job and getting around.
- 24:30Speaker 3: So that kind of leads me into another area of
- 24:34Speaker 3: the foundation that we really train and focus on, and
- 24:36Speaker 3: that is big bridge building and knowing where the pockets
- 24:40Speaker 3: of need are and what organizations are doing what, but
- 24:42Speaker 3: also what are our what is what are the long
- 24:45Speaker 3: term goals of maybe the city or the hospital or
- 24:48Speaker 3: you know, so these big organizations that create incredible strategic
- 24:52Speaker 3: plans and initiatives, but maybe it's not as known across
- 24:56Speaker 3: the community. And so transportation and the need for transporting services,
- 25:01Speaker 3: whether that is helping an individual with maintenance of some
- 25:04Speaker 3: vehicle that they have, or becoming a vehicle owner or
- 25:08Speaker 3: having access to transportation.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Transportation was one of the big issues.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Because I'm starting to think more about it and it's throughout.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Yeah, So that one showed up on the on the
- 25:21Speaker 3: city strategic plan that transportation was one of the number
- 25:24Speaker 3: So there were three needs. One was childcare, transportation and homelessness.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Where the needs that rose to the top from that planning.
- 25:33Speaker 3: But I don't know how much time we have left,
- 25:35Speaker 3: but just a I had the pleasure of serving on
- 25:38Speaker 3: a state nonprofit awards committee a couple of weeks ago,
- 25:42Speaker 3: and one of the organizations that we got to see
- 25:45Speaker 3: and learn more about was a transportation organization, and so
- 25:48Speaker 3: I would love to explore that and see, you know
- 25:51Speaker 3: what that mirrors and looks like for our community, because
- 25:53Speaker 3: I'm sure that they're finding success and that's an incredible
- 25:56Speaker 3: place to be in for a transportation organization filling that need.
- 25:59Speaker 4: We can talk about that.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Yeah, good, and again I invite everybody to come out
- 26:05Speaker 2: and experience rotary with us. Next Monday, we have a
- 26:08Speaker 2: program assuming the weather isn't crazy like last week.
- 26:11Speaker 1: But that's a great question.
- 26:14Speaker 3: We do post the programs weekly on Facebook, so if
- 26:17Speaker 3: you want to follow bartlesvielt Rotary Club, then we share
- 26:19Speaker 3: who's going to visit us every Monday. And I apologize
- 26:22Speaker 3: off the top of my head, I don't know the
- 26:24Speaker 3: next I do know the next week.
- 26:25Speaker 2: It seems like I saw it, but I can't really
- 26:28Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I know that's awful.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Well, you can check it out on Facebook. You can
- 26:33Speaker 2: get more information about the community foundation at your website.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Just search for the food Bartles dot org. Ye and I.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Know they'd love to talk to you about you talk
- 26:45Speaker 2: to them about either either.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Program, both of them.
- 26:47Speaker 4: Yeah, So thank you so much for joining us, Laura.
- 26:50Speaker 2: It's great to hear more about all the great stuff
- 26:53Speaker 2: you work on in our community and I really appreciate.
