- 0:16Speaker 1: Baseball goes to Arkansas, the number one team in the country.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Roll In, roll In, Rolling, roll In, Rolling along.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Ten straight winsh don't talk about it. It's baseball. It's superstitious.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You don't want to scare off the baseball gods, so
- 0:33Speaker 1: we're not going to We'll talk to Craig. He will
- 0:35Speaker 1: give us insight. If you missed the Jim Slostangle on
- 0:39Speaker 1: the morning Kickoff this Morning with Hardball, Harj and Mark Henry,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you can go back and listen to the podcast on
- 0:45Speaker 1: the always free iHeartRadio app. Make us your number one
- 0:50Speaker 1: preset so you do not miss a single thing. Don't
- 0:53Speaker 1: want to miss a thing. Later this hour, we also
- 0:57Speaker 1: have Mike Craven from Dave Campbell's to talk to us
- 0:59Speaker 1: about the fall of spring football, as every single university
- 1:04Speaker 1: across the state of Texas, it seems, is moving away
- 1:08Speaker 1: from the traditional spring game, and as college football itself
- 1:13Speaker 1: kind of in a weird spot. What do we do?
- 1:15Speaker 1: Do we go to scrimmages? Are we going to play
- 1:18Speaker 1: other teams? Are we're going to have fan days like
- 1:20Speaker 1: the University of Texas did.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Where do we go from here?
- 1:23Speaker 1: He will help us explain how the rest of the
- 1:26Speaker 1: state is doing it and what this means for college athletics.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And I'm only slipping a question about how much does
- 1:32Speaker 1: it cost to put a national championship program on the field,
- 1:36Speaker 1: because we saw conflicting reports. One report says it's forty
- 1:40Speaker 1: five million. Another report says that's lutacy. So I want
- 1:43Speaker 1: to know not only for the University of Texas, obviously
- 1:46Speaker 1: I'm curious about that, but I want to know about
- 1:48Speaker 1: the rest of college football because I saw what SMU
- 1:51Speaker 1: did last year getting into the College Football Playoffs after
- 1:54Speaker 1: being a group of five team and then turning themselves
- 1:57Speaker 1: into an ACC program, and then an ACC program that
- 2:00Speaker 1: had to go on the road to Happy Valley ended
- 2:03Speaker 1: up losing the Penn State. But I still stand ten
- 2:05Speaker 1: toes down that if that game is played in a
- 2:08Speaker 1: neutral zone, in a neutral stadium, that I think SMU
- 2:12Speaker 1: has a better shot of winning. I think SMU has
- 2:15Speaker 1: a better shot of winning if they don't have to
- 2:16Speaker 1: go to Happy Valley. So we'll talk about all that
- 2:18Speaker 1: with Craven from Dave Campbell's Football magazine coming up in
- 2:23Speaker 1: the next segment.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Also Inconceivable and the.
- 2:25Speaker 1: University of Texas basketball program and they're rolling along as well.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Three new players signed today. We will talk about what
- 2:34Speaker 1: they bring to the table and all of that. But
- 2:37Speaker 1: speaking of basketball, we got to talk NBA playoffs and
- 2:40Speaker 1: we have to talk about the man. I know, I
- 2:44Speaker 1: know a lot of people today want to talk Lakers basketball.
- 2:47Speaker 1: The loser of the first round series, the three seed
- 2:51Speaker 1: coming into it, Bye Bye goes home after a one
- 2:55Speaker 1: h three ninety six loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And Anthony Edwards.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Who is getting all of the accolades rightly so as
- 3:04Speaker 1: he's getting all of the press, all of the hype,
- 3:07Speaker 1: totally understandable, had one of his worst nights in this
- 3:10Speaker 1: game in his first round series last night in a
- 3:13Speaker 1: fedwards forty three minutes of action fifteen points on five
- 3:17Speaker 1: of nineteen shooting in the Staples Center. He's gotten compared
- 3:20Speaker 1: to a bunch of different guys. He's gotten compared to
- 3:23Speaker 1: Dwayne Wayne when he came out of a Georgia he
- 3:26Speaker 1: got compared to Kobe Bryant at twenty three years old,
- 3:29Speaker 1: looking at how good and how polished he's looked. And
- 3:32Speaker 1: I said to myself last night watching the game's putting up.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant ted numbers more or fewer points on more shots.
- 3:39Speaker 1: That's my guy, what Kobe used to do. That's what
- 3:41Speaker 1: he used to do, used to have a swagger about him. Yeah,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna shoot this out of this game, but I'm
- 3:45Speaker 1: gonna do it looking cool.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Well.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Luckily for ant Man and the Minnesota Timberwolves, they had
- 3:52Speaker 1: the French Man the Eiffel Tower. Rudy Gobert twenty seven points,
- 3:56Speaker 1: twenty four rebounds, his best player off game probably in
- 4:01Speaker 1: the last six or seven years since he's joined the
- 4:03Speaker 1: timber Wolves, and I am ecstatic. I'm so happy that
- 4:07Speaker 1: we are turning the page on the Los Angeles Lakers.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I like Lebron James, a Maluca guy. You know when
- 4:14Speaker 1: they went over When Luca got traded to the Lakers,
- 4:18Speaker 1: ninety nine point nine percent of me was disgusted.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I was like, how do we let this happen?
- 4:23Speaker 1: How do we let Luka Doncik top five player in
- 4:26Speaker 1: the game end up on the Lakers. Is this what
- 4:30Speaker 1: we're doing? Is the NBA conspiring against the rest of
- 4:33Speaker 1: the league. Is the Lakers conspiring against the rest of
- 4:36Speaker 1: the league to just hand over a championship to Los Angeles?
- 4:39Speaker 1: But one percent of me was holding out hope that
- 4:42Speaker 1: this was all going to blow up, and luckily with
- 4:45Speaker 1: a rookie head coach and JJ Reddick in a team
- 4:50Speaker 1: for the Lakers that desperately needed a center. Last night
- 4:55Speaker 1: that desperately needed some sort of interior presence, they didn't
- 4:59Speaker 1: have it at all. And I want to talk about
- 5:02Speaker 1: Anthony Edwards. I want to point out the confidence that
- 5:07Speaker 1: this guy has.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Let's start here.
- 5:09Speaker 1: All week, all year, we've been hearing Lakers in the title.
- 5:14Speaker 1: It's Lakers and Celtics. It's back to the eighties. We're
- 5:17Speaker 1: taking the time machine. And we also heard the rhymes
- 5:22Speaker 1: doesn't matter, it's Lakers and five Lakers and five listeners.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Anthony Edwards last night talking about some Lakers in five nonsense. Uh.
- 5:30Speaker 2: You know what makes it feel even better is that
- 5:33Speaker 2: they said Lakers.
- 5:34Speaker 3: In five and the Wolves won in five.
- 5:36Speaker 2: So I think that makes it feel tea times better.
- 5:38Speaker 3: That's like maya answer.
- 5:40Speaker 1: We love Anthony Edwards and of course a swagger that
- 5:43Speaker 1: comes with it to be a twenty three year old
- 5:46Speaker 1: who now crosses off the list of the guys he's beaten.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He's knocked off Kevin Durant last season, you can cross
- 5:52Speaker 1: off that name on the top twenty five list. He
- 5:54Speaker 1: took out Nickle like Jokic last year, you can cross
- 5:57Speaker 1: that name off the list. The Western Conference five else
- 6:00Speaker 1: he lost to Luca. Well, guess what he got his
- 6:02Speaker 1: get back. He knocks Luca and Lebron off. So we'll
- 6:05Speaker 1: take two more pencil crosses off there. And now it's
- 6:08Speaker 1: gearing up. It's lining up that we're gonna get Anthy
- 6:11Speaker 1: Edwards versus Steph Curry in the second round. And I
- 6:15Speaker 1: know the NBA's ratings this year were a talking point.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You couldn't turn on the television without Shaq and Chuck
- 6:23Speaker 1: on TNT talking about the bad ratings. He couldn't get
- 6:25Speaker 1: on X or social media without somebody arguing about the
- 6:28Speaker 1: bad ratings. I went to Thanksgiving family members, oh man,
- 6:32Speaker 1: what happened to the NBA? I heard the ratings are
- 6:35Speaker 1: really low. The NBA probably wanted the Lakers to move on.
- 6:39Speaker 1: But it helps your ratings. It's gonna help Box off
- 6:43Speaker 1: his TV to have Anthi Edwards in the second round.
- 6:47Speaker 1: And he said earlier this year, I don't want to
- 6:49Speaker 1: be the face of the league. That's what winn bin
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yama's for, that's what Jokic is for. Luca can be
- 6:55Speaker 1: the face league. I don't want to be the face
- 6:56Speaker 1: of the league. I want to play basketball. I want
- 6:59Speaker 1: to sell all my shoes. I don't want to be
- 7:01Speaker 1: the face of the league. I'm sorry, brother. When you
- 7:05Speaker 1: play like a superhero, hey, sometimes we got to put
- 7:07Speaker 1: the cape on you. And Anthony Edwards played like a
- 7:10Speaker 1: superhero last night. He played like a man. He rose
- 7:14Speaker 1: to the occasion. He didn't shrink. He rose to the
- 7:17Speaker 1: occasion in this series. And now the Timberwolves are right
- 7:22Speaker 1: back fighting for a title. And look you're here to
- 7:25Speaker 1: say to yourself, Well, look Zimble, Okay, Oklahoma City. They're
- 7:29Speaker 1: set up for the success. They got Sga, he's going
- 7:31Speaker 1: to be the MVP of the league. They got Chet
- 7:34Speaker 1: who's from Minnesota. By the way, everybody forgets Minnesota, hotbed
- 7:37Speaker 1: for basketball, hotbed for amateur basketball, for youth basketball. Minnesota.
- 7:43Speaker 1: They got all these different players. They can throw it Minnesota.
- 7:46Speaker 1: The Wolves, okay, see is by far and away the
- 7:48Speaker 1: most talented team. That's what people are telling me. But
- 7:52Speaker 1: when you have a player like Anthony Edwards on your team,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you're set up for success. And this guy after the
- 8:00Speaker 1: Netflix last year, the starting five with him and Lebron
- 8:03Speaker 1: and a bunch of other some bonus was in there.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I want to say the King's Ford Andby Edwards left
- 8:09Speaker 1: that Netflix series last year with a better Q rating
- 8:13Speaker 1: than he came into it with average people. I call
- 8:16Speaker 1: it the mom test. Does my mom know who this
- 8:18Speaker 1: guy is? If she does, he's a superstar. You go
- 8:21Speaker 1: on a Netflix series and you perform as an excitable
- 8:26Speaker 1: young man the way that he did, you're getting mom points,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you're getting Brownie points for the average NBA fan, for
- 8:33Speaker 1: the average sports fan. And then you have a series
- 8:36Speaker 1: against Lebron James, where if there's anybody who's a casual fan,
- 8:40Speaker 1: it's a Lebron James fan. If there's ever a type
- 8:43Speaker 1: of a casual fan, it's a guy who just turns
- 8:45Speaker 1: on NBA Playoff Basketball to see what Lebron's gonna do.
- 8:48Speaker 1: He's been in the league twenty something years now. It's
- 8:51Speaker 1: a staple for early spring. So we'll turn on the
- 8:56Speaker 1: Lebron's what Lebron doing, and you perform like that and
- 9:00Speaker 1: you knock off him. Your heir apparent, Anthony Edwards is
- 9:07Speaker 1: putting his name firmly in that conversation to be the
- 9:11Speaker 1: next face of the NBA, if not already. And yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 1: there's a couple other guys in the mix, right, Yes,
- 9:17Speaker 1: she is winning the MVP this season. Yokich might be
- 9:20Speaker 1: the best player on the planet. That probably helps when
- 9:22Speaker 1: you talk about face of the league, But doesn't seem
- 9:24Speaker 1: like either one of those guys really wants it. Jason
- 9:27Speaker 1: Tatum desperately wants it, plays for a legacy franchises Boston,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and it seems like everybody consensus is like, hey, we're
- 9:34Speaker 1: not giving it to you. You want it too bad.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It's the guy that wants to hang out with the
- 9:38Speaker 1: older crew, and the guys are just like, hey, man, sorry, kid,
- 9:41Speaker 1: you're not hanging out with us. It's just a little
- 9:44Speaker 1: bit too much like leave it to Beaver, right, it's
- 9:48Speaker 1: just a little bit too much like the beef. He
- 9:50Speaker 1: wants to be around the older kids. It's just too
- 9:52Speaker 1: much for us, and that's what Jason Tatum has kind
- 9:55Speaker 1: of felt like, Andy Edwards is too cool for school.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Andy Edwards Duncanot guys have a cool commercials knocking off
- 10:03Speaker 1: the Lakers that earns Brownie points to me. I firmly
- 10:08Speaker 1: believe that the Timberwolves can win the championship this year
- 10:11Speaker 1: after what they just did to the Lakers. They have
- 10:13Speaker 1: a recipe for success. They've got Julius Randall and Rudy
- 10:16Speaker 1: Goberrett interior defensive guys a lot of teams don't have
- 10:20Speaker 1: on the wings, Anthony Edwards, Jade McDaniels one to two
- 10:25Speaker 1: punch coming into the playoffs. Okay, yeah, maybe maybe the
- 10:28Speaker 1: Wolves have something here now after the first round. I
- 10:31Speaker 1: don't want to over react, but I feel really good
- 10:36Speaker 1: about where Minnesota is currently. All Right, speaking of feeling
- 10:39Speaker 1: really good, do we feel really good about where college
- 10:41Speaker 1: football is heading? As the spring games start to disappear?
- 10:46Speaker 1: As it starts from spring games to spring practices to
- 10:49Speaker 1: fan events, what is going on in college football? Well,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Mike Craven from Dave Campbell's He'll tell Us What's happening
- 10:56Speaker 1: next Craig Way Show rolls on Zimmel's sitting in for
- 10:58Speaker 1: Craig on Sports Radio A thirteen hundred The Zone Sports
- 11:02Speaker 1: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Craig joins us in
- 11:06Speaker 1: the three o'clock hour from Arkansas's Texas Baseball Pitches Tonight
- 11:12Speaker 1: first pitch six pm on one O three one, Austin's
- 11:14Speaker 1: eighty station. On the on line with us right now
- 11:17Speaker 1: is Mike Craven from Dave Campbell's Football Magazine to talk
- 11:21Speaker 1: Texas Spring. Essentially across the state, Mike, more and more
- 11:26Speaker 1: programs are moving away from the spring game into spring practices.
- 11:31Speaker 1: What was your takeaway when you wrote this article for
- 11:34Speaker 1: Dave Campbell's.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Well, I think for a lot of things in college
- 11:38Speaker 4: football right now, we're living in two different worlds.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And so my.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Biggest takeaway is, you know, what is good for Mike
- 11:45Speaker 4: Elcho at A and m Or Sarkesian at Texas or
- 11:47Speaker 4: even Joey MacGuire Tech may not be, you know, good
- 11:50Speaker 4: for GJ. Kinney at Texas State or Trailer at UTSA.
- 11:53Speaker 4: And so when you go around to these schools in
- 11:56Speaker 4: the spring and sit down with all the coaches, what's
- 11:58Speaker 4: always interesting to me is, you know, college football can't
- 12:01Speaker 4: be decided upon because it's such a big organization with
- 12:06Speaker 4: so many different schools, with so many different budgets, with
- 12:08Speaker 4: so many different needs, and springball just falls in.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Line with that.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Now, what's interesting is, and you were the first person
- 12:14Speaker 1: that I had ever heard kind of give us take
- 12:16Speaker 1: about the split between the haves and the have nots,
- 12:20Speaker 1: the power for and everybody else. Do you think it
- 12:23Speaker 1: is easier to be a power for team in the spring?
- 12:26Speaker 2: Is that? Is that kind of where I'm getting where
- 12:27Speaker 2: you're coming.
- 12:28Speaker 4: From, right, Because like at Texas A and M, they
- 12:31Speaker 4: know their numbers and they have plenty of them. You know,
- 12:34Speaker 4: the guys who leave Texas A and M or Texas
- 12:36Speaker 4: or Texas Tech TCU, those are typically backups. They're not
- 12:39Speaker 4: the frontline players. Every now and then they may lose
- 12:42Speaker 4: a store rolling into spring with sixty seventy eighty guys
- 12:47Speaker 4: that they're comfortable playing football with. That's not true at
- 12:51Speaker 4: Texas State, that's not true at North Texas, that's not
- 12:53Speaker 4: true at UTSA. And you can just watch the spring
- 12:56Speaker 4: portal and see who jumps in.
- 12:59Speaker 2: You know you're you're.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Lose and real starters at the G five level. And
- 13:02Speaker 4: so I think the biggest contention for the G five
- 13:04Speaker 4: coaches is, why are we going through a whole fifteen
- 13:08Speaker 4: spring practices and having a spring game with a roster
- 13:11Speaker 4: that's not even the one we're going to play with
- 13:12Speaker 4: in the fall. Why would we do third down install?
- 13:15Speaker 4: Why would we do red zone specific stuff? Why would
- 13:18Speaker 4: we put in blitzes and schemes? And so they're using
- 13:21Speaker 4: it more for evaluation than they are for install and
- 13:25Speaker 4: for really preparation for twenty twenty five.
- 13:28Speaker 2: As GJ.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Kinney said, they signed three new quarterbacks over that last
- 13:31Speaker 4: Bortal window. They just wanted to see who could drop
- 13:34Speaker 4: back and throw it to an open receiver, much less
- 13:36Speaker 4: going through progressions and next level stuff. So I just
- 13:40Speaker 4: think we're operating in two different worlds. And you know,
- 13:43Speaker 4: what's true in College station isn't true.
- 13:45Speaker 2: In San Marcus.
- 13:45Speaker 4: And you know there's plenty of examples of that being
- 13:47Speaker 4: the case.
- 13:48Speaker 1: And now you and I didn't play, so we're coming
- 13:50Speaker 1: from a fan point of view. But I got to imagine, Mike,
- 13:52Speaker 1: that none of these coaches are going to have the
- 13:56Speaker 1: playbooks that they'd like to have week one of the
- 13:59Speaker 1: collegeable seasons, or let's say this ten years ago, they
- 14:01Speaker 1: could have more complex playbooks versus what they're going to
- 14:04Speaker 1: have to go with going forward. If they're not doing
- 14:06Speaker 1: install during the spring, right.
- 14:11Speaker 4: That the spring, you're losing that those fifteen days. I
- 14:14Speaker 4: think it's that you're just not having a roster for
- 14:17Speaker 4: two or three years. Your quarterback hasn't been there for
- 14:19Speaker 4: three or four years, your wide receivers haven't organically grown
- 14:22Speaker 4: up into the system by the time their upper class,
- 14:25Speaker 4: and they know the playbook by the back of their hands.
- 14:27Speaker 4: So I think college football in general has been simplified
- 14:30Speaker 4: over the last twenty to twenty five years, and that's
- 14:33Speaker 4: probably true at the NFL level as well. But they
- 14:35Speaker 4: do so much of that install in the summer, you know,
- 14:38Speaker 4: on fall camps, the month long and it was built
- 14:40Speaker 4: you know, that's another archaic you know thing is a
- 14:42Speaker 4: month long fall camp. Now that was made back when
- 14:45Speaker 4: you know, athletes went home for the summer and didn't
- 14:47Speaker 4: work out, you know, and they had to come back
- 14:49Speaker 4: and get whipped into shape. They're all staying there all summer.
- 14:51Speaker 4: They're doing install. You know what your roster is come June.
- 14:55Speaker 4: You just don't know what your roster is in March
- 14:57Speaker 4: when you're having spring ball. How many resources? How much
- 14:59Speaker 4: time do you want to invest into a bunch of
- 15:02Speaker 4: guys who you know you may or may not roll with?
- 15:04Speaker 4: Come you know, August thirtieth.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Now we saw that Colorado and Dion wanted to have
- 15:08Speaker 1: a little bit of a scrimmage type Do you did
- 15:10Speaker 1: when you talk to these other coaches, Mike, did you
- 15:13Speaker 1: see any of them or hear any of them say like, hey,
- 15:15Speaker 1: that's something we'd like to do.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Yeah. I think about half of them want to do
- 15:19Speaker 4: something like that, and half of them, you know, think.
- 15:22Speaker 2: It's too risky.
- 15:22Speaker 4: You know. I think as budgets grow and as payrolls come,
- 15:26Speaker 4: you know what happens the first time you lose your
- 15:28Speaker 4: started running back because you're intersquad scrimmaging against Indiana or
- 15:32Speaker 4: something like that. Right, Like the pushback is going to
- 15:35Speaker 4: be big. But also college football is the only level
- 15:39Speaker 4: of football where you don't play anybody else until the
- 15:42Speaker 4: season starts to matter, right, I mean even in seventh
- 15:44Speaker 4: and eighth grade, you're playing scrimmages against other schools. High
- 15:47Speaker 4: school obviously, NFL has preseason games, So in college you
- 15:52Speaker 4: just kind of roll out and play other I think
- 15:54Speaker 4: I think you could find support for more of a
- 15:57Speaker 4: split squad kind of what the NFL does, more so
- 16:00Speaker 4: than the Colorado Syracuse idea of holding like a real
- 16:04Speaker 4: spring game against each other. I don't think we ever
- 16:06Speaker 4: see that, but I wouldn't be surprised if in a
- 16:09Speaker 4: few years TCU can give North Texas a million dollars
- 16:13Speaker 4: to come practice for two or three days and North
- 16:14Speaker 4: Texas can use that towards nil and revenue share like
- 16:18Speaker 4: they're going to have to get creative to make some
- 16:20Speaker 4: money because the gap is so big and what the
- 16:22Speaker 4: revenue share is about to be. I wouldn't put anything
- 16:26Speaker 4: past trying to trying to figure out ways to make
- 16:28Speaker 4: some money in the spring and and get some other competition.
- 16:32Speaker 1: We're talking to Mike Craven from Dave Campbell's Football Magazine,
- 16:34Speaker 1: and Mike, you mentioned that revenue sharing split. You talked
- 16:37Speaker 1: about the haves and the have nots and the and
- 16:39Speaker 1: the split here. Could you see a world where if
- 16:42Speaker 1: I'm a unt fan, I don't want the Mean Green
- 16:45Speaker 1: to go scrimmage against SMU were TCU, because I don't
- 16:49Speaker 1: want one of those coaches to see our backup running
- 16:51Speaker 1: back who could be, you know, a sneaky sneaky good player.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Yeah, you'd have to come up with ways to you know,
- 16:58Speaker 4: if we practice against you can't sign on one of
- 17:01Speaker 4: our players for a full cycle or something like that.
- 17:03Speaker 4: And you know, I don't think any of this stuff
- 17:06Speaker 4: happens until they're employees, right until like you can put
- 17:09Speaker 4: them under contract. And then once they're under contract, and
- 17:12Speaker 4: then it would be harder for that. You know, there's
- 17:14Speaker 4: rules in the NFL when the Bills and the Texans
- 17:16Speaker 4: practice against each other, the Bills can't just go straight
- 17:19Speaker 4: signed a practice squad player from the Texans or something.
- 17:21Speaker 4: And so I think once that's kind of figured out,
- 17:24Speaker 4: and also the other deal is there may not be
- 17:26Speaker 4: a second spring window for very much longer. It may
- 17:30Speaker 4: just be a one window situation in the winner. And
- 17:32Speaker 4: if that's true, I think springbald becomes to have, you know,
- 17:35Speaker 4: kind of a resurgence and importance. The issue isn't when
- 17:39Speaker 4: it is and having the practices like they want the
- 17:42Speaker 4: rest they want to do. Insult to your point earlier
- 17:44Speaker 4: about kind of having to simplify offenses. They want to
- 17:47Speaker 4: have as many practices as possible. They just don't want
- 17:49Speaker 4: to do it with a roster that's still fluid.
- 17:52Speaker 1: So we've been seeing conflicting reports here, Mike about the
- 17:55Speaker 1: cost or the amount of it's expected to cost the
- 17:59Speaker 1: roster for the twenty twenty five season for the Texas
- 18:01Speaker 1: Lawhorns between thirty five and forty million that we hired
- 18:05Speaker 1: another report that said, that's crazy. What is your take
- 18:08Speaker 1: on this and how much does it cost to run
- 18:11Speaker 1: a football program like the University of Texas.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Well, I think we need to start at the rev
- 18:16Speaker 4: share number. So the rev share number for power for
- 18:18Speaker 4: schools is going to be probably thirteen to fifteen million dollars.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Obviously Texas is gonna is going to maximize that. I
- 18:25Speaker 4: think when we go to like the American Athletic Conference,
- 18:27Speaker 4: I think schools are going to have a budget about
- 18:29Speaker 4: two to five Sun Belt maybe two to three Conference USA,
- 18:34Speaker 4: maybe in the one million to two million range at
- 18:36Speaker 4: the top. Right, So there's a huge gap there and
- 18:38Speaker 4: just kind of where you're starting at. I just from
- 18:41Speaker 4: talking to coaches, and that's all I can go by
- 18:42Speaker 4: is what head coaches around the state think. You know,
- 18:46Speaker 4: they don't see that as a as a cap. You know,
- 18:49Speaker 4: they don't think LSU is all of a sudden going
- 18:51Speaker 4: to start working under the same operating budget as Vanderbilt, right, Like,
- 18:55Speaker 4: they're going to spend their money. And last year it's
- 19:00Speaker 4: reported that Texas spent about twenty million dollars in NIL,
- 19:03Speaker 4: twenty two million dollars in NIL. If you add a
- 19:05Speaker 4: thirteen to fifteen million dollars in REBISH share, you get
- 19:08Speaker 4: to the mid thirties. I think, OHI State walk erate
- 19:12Speaker 4: at that same level as well. If you've if you
- 19:14Speaker 4: created this system to funnel in that money and the
- 19:17Speaker 4: donors aren't fatigued and they're fine with putting in that money,
- 19:20Speaker 4: Like why wouldn't you use that for a competitive advantage?
- 19:23Speaker 4: It used to be putting waterfalls in the locker room,
- 19:25Speaker 4: and now it's funneling money to the players. And so
- 19:28Speaker 4: I guess I refuse to believe that college football is
- 19:31Speaker 4: going to stop trying to cheap the wrong word because
- 19:35Speaker 4: it's within the rules now. But I just think the
- 19:37Speaker 4: programs that have always spent more are going to continue
- 19:40Speaker 4: to spend more.
- 19:40Speaker 2: If it's going to equal.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Out to thirty five million dollars, Like, I don't know,
- 19:43Speaker 4: we're probably splitting hairs in terms of like what's technically
- 19:46Speaker 4: money and what's not because some of this stuff is
- 19:48Speaker 4: like a house that you're getting to live in or
- 19:51Speaker 4: a car that you're getting to leave, So it's not
- 19:52Speaker 4: like real cash when they're when they're throwing out these evaluations,
- 19:55Speaker 4: and so we could probably split hairs on that number.
- 19:59Speaker 4: But I would imagine Texas continues to spend the amount
- 20:03Speaker 4: of money that it's always spent in comparison to the
- 20:05Speaker 4: teams around it.
- 20:06Speaker 1: And I think that this is gonna be one of
- 20:07Speaker 1: those I want to say, like almost like a bragging
- 20:12Speaker 1: rights when you go to hang out with your friends
- 20:14Speaker 1: at other places, because I can't imagine that a Texas
- 20:17Speaker 1: alum and an SMU alum and a Baylor alum and
- 20:20Speaker 1: a Tech alum are all going to get together and
- 20:22Speaker 1: go like, hey, we outspent you or you or you
- 20:24Speaker 1: that that's gonna happen. I think that's going to be
- 20:26Speaker 1: more of an interesting angle to me.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Yeah, And you know, I think if you have that
- 20:33Speaker 4: kind of money, right, like, I mean, you see what
- 20:35Speaker 4: NFL owners do, like Jerry Jones likes to play GM.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Like if I had a billion dollars or like enough
- 20:40Speaker 4: money to spend it on a roster, like I'd probably
- 20:42Speaker 4: try to try to make utsa really good you know,
- 20:45Speaker 4: and spend some players and brag about that and all
- 20:48Speaker 4: that kind of stuff. And so you know, you used
- 20:51Speaker 4: to give money to the athletic department for whatever fill
- 20:54Speaker 4: in the blank, and now you can give money to
- 20:56Speaker 4: the athletic department or to the nil to help get
- 20:59Speaker 4: the running back or the tight end from cal or
- 21:01Speaker 4: like whatever the case may be. Personnel matters, you know,
- 21:05Speaker 4: more than the look of the weight room or the
- 21:07Speaker 4: name on a building. And you know, once when you
- 21:10Speaker 4: have a proven commodity like Stark has proven that it's winning,
- 21:13Speaker 4: like the places that lose, like Old Miss goes all
- 21:15Speaker 4: in and it doesn't work.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Maybe if that.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Happens one or two more times, you get fatigue. We
- 21:20Speaker 4: saw what happened at Florida State. Maybe there's fatigue. Let's
- 21:22Speaker 4: say tex Bus this year, maybe you see some fatigue.
- 21:26Speaker 4: But Texas has gone to back to back semi finals,
- 21:28Speaker 4: Like I just don't think that they're running out of money,
- 21:31Speaker 4: Like I don't. I don't think they're having a bunch
- 21:32Speaker 4: of donors going like, well, you know, we ponied up
- 21:34Speaker 4: the last couple of years for this roster, but we're
- 21:36Speaker 4: going to pull back now, like, I just don't see
- 21:38Speaker 4: that happening. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if
- 21:41Speaker 4: Texas had a roster of thirty plus million dollars. But
- 21:44Speaker 4: Texas won't be alone there, So will Ohio State, so
- 21:47Speaker 4: will Georgia, so will a lot of the programs that
- 21:50Speaker 4: have always spent more money on on you know whatever
- 21:53Speaker 4: around the football program they were allowed to spend.
- 21:55Speaker 1: The arms race continues. You can follow them on Twitter.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Mike Craven and Dave Campbell's Football magazine. Hey, do you
- 22:01Speaker 1: have any updates for us on the magazine?
- 22:04Speaker 4: Well, May it's kind of when we start turning everything in.
- 22:08Speaker 4: All the interviews are done. Transfer portal make that hard,
- 22:11Speaker 4: especially for the G five team. So I'm just doing
- 22:14Speaker 4: a lot of writing. I've passed the twenty five thousand
- 22:16Speaker 4: word mark. I got probably about fifteen twenty thousand left
- 22:20Speaker 4: to go, and then we send it off kind of
- 22:22Speaker 4: that first week in June, and then it's out in July.
- 22:25Speaker 1: There he is read the magazine, read his stuff online
- 22:27Speaker 1: as well. Mike, thanks so much.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Appreciate you all.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Right, when we come back Inconceivable, the wildest stories we
- 22:34Speaker 1: can find all coming up next to the Craig Way Show,
- 22:36Speaker 1: Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 22:38Speaker 5: Inconceivable, inconceivable, inconceivable, inconceivable that I don't think I miss
- 22:46Speaker 5: what you're thinking.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Miss Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone, Andrew Zimmil
- 22:54Speaker 1: hanging out with you. Not inconceivable to be in the
- 22:57Speaker 1: big chair? Is it inconceivable for Tech Baseball to keep
- 23:01Speaker 1: their winning streak alive? Ten game win streak? Currently going
- 23:05Speaker 1: to Fayetteville against Arkansas, first pitch, six pm. Craig Way
- 23:09Speaker 1: will be on the program in the three o'clock hour
- 23:12Speaker 1: to give us a preview of it. All Right, now,
- 23:15Speaker 1: many of us don't bend over for loose change anymore.
- 23:19Speaker 1: This is a lesson that my mother's hobby a long
- 23:21Speaker 1: time ago. If you see loose change on the ground,
- 23:23Speaker 1: pick it up. Doesn't matter if it's a penny, a quarter,
- 23:26Speaker 1: But how about a dime? Because yesterday the Texas Department
- 23:30Speaker 1: of Transportation they had a very difficult, very unusual cleanup
- 23:36Speaker 1: operation after an overturned truck lost Get this, eight million dimes, yes,
- 23:44Speaker 1: eight million dimes spilling out all over the roadway, which
- 23:47Speaker 1: was about eight hundred thousand dollars worth of change. Now
- 23:52Speaker 1: I don't know about you. Ten cents. If I'm leaving
- 23:55Speaker 1: the grocery store and I see it, I might not
- 23:57Speaker 1: pick it up, right. But eight hundred thous dollars worth
- 24:01Speaker 1: of dimes, yeah, I'm picking them up, all right. The
- 24:03Speaker 1: Texas Department of Public Safety says an eighteen wheeler rolled
- 24:07Speaker 1: onto its side to the southbound lane of US eighty one
- 24:11Speaker 1: to eighty seven near Farm Road sixteen fifty five. Okay,
- 24:15Speaker 1: now we're gonna have to talk to Craig about where
- 24:17Speaker 1: that exactly is. He has the entire Texas Transportation Highway
- 24:22Speaker 1: system memorized. He'll tell us exactly where it was, and
- 24:25Speaker 1: maybe where the closest BUCkies is too. All right, The
- 24:28Speaker 1: department said the truck lost got off the road and
- 24:31Speaker 1: the driver over corrected, causing the vehicle to overturn. Uh oh,
- 24:37Speaker 1: the driver pastor, we're taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Now,
- 24:41Speaker 1: the Alvoid Fire Department confirms the truck lost its load
- 24:44Speaker 1: of eight million freshly minted dimes. This entire thing sounds
- 24:50Speaker 1: like an old story from the nineteen twenties, doesn't it
- 24:54Speaker 1: seem like some sort of body inclyde type.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Of robbery deal.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Oh hey, they tried to steal all the actually minted
- 25:00Speaker 1: dimes in the middle of the Great Depression. Doesn't that
- 25:03Speaker 1: what this whole story sounds like to you? The highway
- 25:05Speaker 1: is closed for several hours while the Department of Transportation
- 25:08Speaker 1: closed the highway to pick up the loose change. Now again,
- 25:14Speaker 1: you get up in the morning on a crisp Wednesday morning,
- 25:17Speaker 1: you say to yourself, Oh, I hope this day brings
- 25:20Speaker 1: me something fun.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Picking up loose change in.
- 25:25Speaker 1: The smallest of currencies too, because if you remember, I
- 25:28Speaker 1: don't know how many of you have change on you
- 25:30Speaker 1: right now, in your cars, or in your pockets or
- 25:32Speaker 1: in your couches. The dime is tiny, so to pick
- 25:36Speaker 1: them up. I'm looking at a photo here there's a guy,
- 25:40Speaker 1: hands and knees picking up dimes to put them in
- 25:43Speaker 1: a plastic bag.
- 25:45Speaker 2: What a pain in the neck, all right, Now.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Alabama's been known to have some strange things. I think
- 25:53Speaker 1: we've all driven through Alabama at some point. You just
- 25:55Speaker 1: kind of keep driving, keep your eyes on the road,
- 25:57Speaker 1: don't look over off the sides. Well, this actually the
- 26:00Speaker 1: Alabama Highway was temporarily closed yesterday thanks in part to
- 26:06Speaker 1: a kangaroo. Yeah, a kangaroo hopping on Interstate eighty five
- 26:09Speaker 1: between Tuskegee and Auburn on Tuesday cause not one, but
- 26:14Speaker 1: two vehicles to crash amid the chaos. No injuries were reported.
- 26:19Speaker 1: This isn't a good sign, though officials closed off a
- 26:22Speaker 1: section of the highway and a sheriff's deputy live streamed
- 26:27Speaker 1: the kangaroo on Facebook. Again, you know, maybe we focus
- 26:31Speaker 1: on getting the kangaroo off the road. Fellas all right,
- 26:35Speaker 1: So the kangaroo was tranquilized, captured by its owner.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Quote.
- 26:38Speaker 1: When somebody said there was a kangaroo, of course I
- 26:40Speaker 1: didn't believe them, the deputy said, But now I'm looking
- 26:44Speaker 1: at him. Brunson says that the kangaroo escaped from its
- 26:47Speaker 1: home petting zoo in Lee County. Quote, we were chasing
- 26:50Speaker 1: him for quite a while. Traffic was stopped for a
- 26:53Speaker 1: long ways. Now, this is a lesson to all of
- 26:56Speaker 1: those who want to rubberneck.
- 26:58Speaker 2: If you see some.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Thing on the side of the road, do not stop.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Do not swerve in and out of the lanes to
- 27:04Speaker 1: try to get a better glimpse of the kangaroo. Continue
- 27:08Speaker 1: to drive, because yes, you don't want to hit the kangaroo. Obviously,
- 27:12Speaker 1: but by the evasive maneuvering of the cars, they caused
- 27:16Speaker 1: a little bit of a piloup. Multiple cars ran into
- 27:19Speaker 1: each other, all trying to get a better look.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Of the kangaroo. This is not good.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Now, Kangaroos are very powerful animals, so you do not
- 27:28Speaker 1: want to get into any sort of tango with any
- 27:30Speaker 1: of them. But I will say if there was a
- 27:32Speaker 1: debate online about could one hundred men take a kangaroo,
- 27:35Speaker 1: I think we would agree we're taking that kangaroo. So
- 27:39Speaker 1: luckily it's fine was able to get back to his owner.
- 27:42Speaker 1: But the wallaboo wallabee way of the kangaroo jumping around
- 27:47Speaker 1: it is something to behold. Now, finally, we've all had
- 27:52Speaker 1: an annoying person, maybe on a plane with us. Maybe
- 27:54Speaker 1: you're in public and you're going to a restaurant and
- 27:57Speaker 1: the kid across the dining area is causing a little
- 28:01Speaker 1: bit of a stir. I think we've all been there before, right, Well,
- 28:04Speaker 1: this British kid might be the most annoying person on
- 28:07Speaker 1: the planet. So this British boy his name nicknamed Seagull Boy.
- 28:11Speaker 1: He's won his second consecutive title at the European Championship
- 28:15Speaker 1: gull screeching event in Belgium. Now, how do you know
- 28:19Speaker 1: that you have that type of I don't even want
- 28:23Speaker 1: to call it a talent, but we'll call it a talent.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Let's say Cooper Wallace. He's ten, He's dressed in a
- 28:28Speaker 1: seagull costume. He performed his bird imitation at the Sunday competition,
- 28:34Speaker 1: scored him his second consecutive win in the junior category.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Now Wallace, who's seagulls screeching career began when he was
- 28:40Speaker 1: bitten by one of the birds, turned to not only
- 28:44Speaker 1: be an ear perse piercing performance in the family, as
- 28:48Speaker 1: his seven year old sister Shelley, otherwise known as Seagull.
- 28:52Speaker 3: I get it.
- 28:53Speaker 1: See girl seagull, she plays fourth quote. I was very nervous,
- 28:57Speaker 1: but I was happy. I like being on stage. I
- 28:59Speaker 1: was kind of annoyed that I didn't get a medal,
- 29:02Speaker 1: but I'm very happy for Cooper Shelby Wallace told the
- 29:05Speaker 1: local news. Now again, I say, how do you find
- 29:09Speaker 1: that you have this sort of skill, this sort of talent. Well,
- 29:12Speaker 1: imagine you have to practice, right, and if we know
- 29:15Speaker 1: anything about little kids, they're not practicing in their home.
- 29:19Speaker 1: They're practicing in public. Obviously they're practicing other places. Obviously
- 29:23Speaker 1: I watched the video from this event so you didn't
- 29:27Speaker 1: have to. And I thought about, hey, maybe I should
- 29:29Speaker 1: pull some of this audio and we can play it here.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And I decided against it because when I go to Galveston,
- 29:34Speaker 1: when I go to Corpus, when I go to the coast,
- 29:37Speaker 1: the seagulls screeching probably one of my least favorite sounds
- 29:43Speaker 1: in the world. It's like chuck or it's the nails
- 29:46Speaker 1: on chalkboard for me. And this seagull boy is the
- 29:50Speaker 1: closest I've ever heard to anybody getting that screech, perfect pitch,
- 29:56Speaker 1: just right, and I can't stand it. I hope nothing
- 30:00Speaker 1: about the best, but I will say that the award
- 30:03Speaker 1: that he won was much larger than any award I've
- 30:06Speaker 1: ever won. I could believe how big the medal was.
- 30:08Speaker 1: It was like the size of a dinner play. It
- 30:09Speaker 1: was a giant medal for the British seagull Boy. All right,
- 30:12Speaker 1: what's the most inconceivable story?
- 30:14Speaker 2: Is it?
- 30:14Speaker 1: The dimes on the side of the road. Would you
- 30:16Speaker 1: stop to pick up eight hundred thousand dollars worth of
- 30:19Speaker 1: dimes on the side of the road after eight million
- 30:22Speaker 1: dimes spill earlier this week.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Is it the Kangaroo Store?
- 30:26Speaker 1: Is that the most inconceivable driving down the road you
- 30:27Speaker 1: see the kangaro on in the side of the road
- 30:29Speaker 1: or is it seagull boy are when we come back?
- 30:33Speaker 2: Not inconceivable?
- 30:34Speaker 1: Texas Long Worm Basketball retooling and reloading with Sean Miller.
- 30:38Speaker 1: They get three new commits. We'll talk about it next
- 30:40Speaker 1: on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio
- 30:44Speaker 1: AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Want to thank Mike craven
- 30:47Speaker 1: for joining us in the first hour of The Craigway Show.
- 30:52Speaker 1: If you missed any of it, go back and listen
- 30:53Speaker 1: to the podcast version of The Craigway Show, which you
- 30:56Speaker 1: can get on any platform, including the free iHeartRadio app.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Make AM thirteen hundred Zone your number one preset so
- 31:03Speaker 1: you don't miss a single thing. Don't want to miss
- 31:05Speaker 1: the morning kickoff. Don't want to miss the craig Way Show,
- 31:09Speaker 1: you very much. Do not want to miss tonight's matchup
- 31:11Speaker 1: as University of Texas Baseball Travis to Fayetteville take on
- 31:15Speaker 1: the Razorbacks. No love loss there. Texas the number one
- 31:19Speaker 1: team in the country taking on the Razorbacks and Craig
- 31:23Speaker 1: Way will join us at three seventeen from the ballpark
- 31:27Speaker 1: to give us a little bit of a preview of
- 31:29Speaker 1: what we can expect. First pitch tonight six pm, airtime
- 31:32Speaker 1: five forty five on one oh three to one, Austin's
- 31:35Speaker 1: eighty station, and Craig will be there. It will be
- 31:38Speaker 1: a lot of fun. I'm excited for it. A ten
- 31:41Speaker 1: game win streak on the line, lot a lot riding
- 31:45Speaker 1: on this game, and he will give us a little
- 31:47Speaker 1: bit of behind the scenes of what is happening as well. Okay, So,
- 31:51Speaker 1: University of Texas basketball after losing in the first four
- 31:56Speaker 1: game against Xavier, bringing in their head coach Sean Miller.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Al Miller is off to the races. Three signees today
- 32:05Speaker 1: and I feel pretty confident in what the game plan
- 32:09Speaker 1: is when it comes to coach Miller. All right, so
- 32:12Speaker 1: we'll start here. Candon Heidi. He signed his athletic scholarship agreement,
- 32:17Speaker 1: which is what we're calling it now, to play basketball
- 32:20Speaker 1: next season at the University of Texas. Heidi played his
- 32:24Speaker 1: last two years at Purdue. He's joining for this upcoming
- 32:28Speaker 1: season from Minnesota. We talked a little bit of Minnesota
- 32:31Speaker 1: basketball earlier. Right, Hey, hotbad for youth talent. Seventy five
- 32:35Speaker 1: career games, about four points per game and about three
- 32:39Speaker 1: rebounds per game in his career at Purdue. But he's
- 32:44Speaker 1: a very good shooter from the floor fifty two percent
- 32:47Speaker 1: from the floor and forty one percent from downtown. During
- 32:51Speaker 1: his sophomore season at Purdue, played in all thirty six games,
- 32:54Speaker 1: starting eight of them. He was third on the team
- 32:57Speaker 1: and rebounding, fourth in minutes, and seventh in scoring. What
- 33:01Speaker 1: you're looking for if you're Miller, is you're looking to
- 33:04Speaker 1: build a roster of guys who can play at the
- 33:09Speaker 1: Power four level. Last year, Texas had a struggled a
- 33:13Speaker 1: little bit, we'll say, having guys who can play consistent
- 33:17Speaker 1: minutes in the SEC. There's a couple of games last
- 33:20Speaker 1: year where the long Horns were, you know, outs played
- 33:24Speaker 1: by some of the talent on the floor. Now, I
- 33:26Speaker 1: would go as far as to say that of the
- 33:29Speaker 1: Power four conferences, the Big Ten is one of those
- 33:33Speaker 1: conferences that is a historic program. Like historic programs, and
- 33:38Speaker 1: when you're in the Big Ten and when you're in
- 33:40Speaker 1: basketball country, whether it be Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, when you're
- 33:45Speaker 1: in basketball country, every single one of those amateur games,
- 33:49Speaker 1: of those high school games, they matter. They carry out
- 33:52Speaker 1: a lot of weight. And when you play it Purdue,
- 33:54Speaker 1: when you're fighting for supremacy in the state of Indiana
- 34:00Speaker 1: against the who's yours like, it matters. So I want
- 34:03Speaker 1: a guy like Heidi who can show up, give me
- 34:06Speaker 1: consistent minutes and play at a consistent level. Okay, I
- 34:10Speaker 1: like that signing. Mathuse Mattu what cuitis. Mcoitas is from Lithuania.
- 34:18Speaker 1: That's why we messed up his name right there. The
- 34:20Speaker 1: seven foot center from Lithuania played in thirty four games
- 34:24Speaker 1: last season for Florida Athletic or Yeah Athletic Atlantic Florida Atlantic,
- 34:29Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Played in thirty four games, starting twenty of them.
- 34:32Speaker 1: He was the AAC Freshman of the Year. He was
- 34:35Speaker 1: All Freshman Team. He ranked second of the team in reboundings,
- 34:38Speaker 1: in third in blocks. He helped the Owls get to
- 34:43Speaker 1: the n T first round. He was a important player
- 34:47Speaker 1: for that team to get to this to get to
- 34:51Speaker 1: the postseason. The Owls last year eighteen to sixteen record.
- 34:56Speaker 1: But again, you want guys who can play consistent minutes
- 35:00Speaker 1: and stay on the floor, and that's what he did
- 35:02Speaker 1: last season. He was on the under twenty national team
- 35:05Speaker 1: as well for Lithuanian competed in the Under twenty euro
- 35:09Speaker 1: Basketball Tournament in twenty twenty four, and Poland played international basketball. Again,
- 35:16Speaker 1: these aren't guys, at least in Mattouthis and Heidi who
- 35:20Speaker 1: you're asking to play major minutes for you. But you
- 35:23Speaker 1: want guys on the court who can stay on the
- 35:25Speaker 1: court and can d up and play tight defense. And
- 35:28Speaker 1: then finally Dalan Swayn. He played four Miller at Xavier
- 35:34Speaker 1: last season. Swayn is a six foot eight two twenty
- 35:38Speaker 1: forward guard from Colomos, Ohios. Played in twenty three career
- 35:41Speaker 1: games thirty six starts, averaged about eight points wall at
- 35:45Speaker 1: Xavier last season, played in all thirty four games, led
- 35:48Speaker 1: the team in steels, and was second in rebounding a
- 35:51Speaker 1: third in scoring. This is a guy who has played
- 35:55Speaker 1: in the Sean Miller system. He knows what it means
- 35:58Speaker 1: to compete at that level at Xavier, and this is
- 36:03Speaker 1: the one that I'm probably the most excited for, Dalan Swayin.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I'm most excited for this because, like I said, when
- 36:09Speaker 1: Miller came in, he was the name that most Texas
- 36:13Speaker 1: fans knew obviously from that first four game, that was
- 36:16Speaker 1: a team in Xavier that you wanted to You saw
- 36:21Speaker 1: across the court, Hey, this coach, this cross, late's dot
- 36:25Speaker 1: of the eyes. Guys, guys ready to play. We like
- 36:27Speaker 1: where the Xavier program is. If you're a Texas fan,
- 36:30Speaker 1: you bring that guy in and now you expect him
- 36:33Speaker 1: to kind of lead the charge. And you listen to
- 36:35Speaker 1: Crystal Conte, the athletic director for the University of Texas,
- 36:38Speaker 1: talk about the competitiveness in all of the programs that
- 36:43Speaker 1: the standard is a standard obviously, but your goal is
- 36:46Speaker 1: to compete and your goal is to win in the
- 36:49Speaker 1: SEC And Miller already going out and getting guys gives
- 36:54Speaker 1: me a little bit of hope, makes me encouraged, gives
- 36:57Speaker 1: me a little confidence in what's coming down the pipeline
- 37:01Speaker 1: for Texas basketball. That's really the biggest thing to me
- 37:06Speaker 1: is what's coming down the pipe? Where are where's this
- 37:09Speaker 1: program going? New captain at the helm? Where is Texas
- 37:14Speaker 1: basketball going? Is a trending in the correct direction. And
- 37:17Speaker 1: with the signings today, I'd like to think so other
- 37:21Speaker 1: news and this came down the pipe yesterday, It came
- 37:24Speaker 1: across my desk, and it's worth mentioning. I think University
- 37:28Speaker 1: of Texas they clinched the Cotton Holding Lone Star Showdown
- 37:31Speaker 1: Rivalry Series already. The Cotton Holding lone Star Showdown is
- 37:36Speaker 1: the official moniker for all varsity men's and women's athletic
- 37:40Speaker 1: competitions up to nineteen sports between Texas and Texas A
- 37:45Speaker 1: and M. And after that sweep last weekend, the Longhorns
- 37:50Speaker 1: currently have a eleven to five advantage. There's only two
- 37:54Speaker 1: total points remaining a competition that's men's and women's outdoor
- 37:57Speaker 1: field points in the sec Channe Ship that's coming up
- 38:01Speaker 1: later this month. Of fifteen to the seventeenth marks the
- 38:04Speaker 1: seventh time in all nine Showdowns, long courts have claimed
- 38:08Speaker 1: the Rivalry Series trophy. Startuck in the two thousand and
- 38:12Speaker 1: five you'll remember, this is what everybody was most excited for,
- 38:17Speaker 1: and it helps you beat little brother. Home series against
- 38:21Speaker 1: Texas A and M last weekend gets the baseball program
- 38:24Speaker 1: feeling pretty good as a take on Arkansas tonight in
- 38:27Speaker 1: a three game series. All right, when we come back
- 38:29Speaker 1: our number two of the Craigway Show, Nixon Pistons get
- 38:33Speaker 1: excited for it tonight next fours Radio AM thirteen hundred,
- 38:35Speaker 1: his own The Craigway Show rolls on, Andrew zim Will
- 38:39Speaker 1: hanging out with you this Thursday. Had to do my
- 38:43Speaker 1: quick mathter how to make sure I was on the
- 38:45Speaker 1: right day. Okay, So Thursday May first, and we have
- 38:50Speaker 1: a lot going on in our number two. Craig wait
- 38:53Speaker 1: joins the program here in about seventeen minutes from Arkansas.
- 38:57Speaker 1: University of Texas continues to do what they do, which
- 39:01Speaker 1: is win SEC ballgames. Ten game win streak currently on
- 39:05Speaker 1: the line as they go to Arkansas, the consensus number
- 39:08Speaker 1: one team in college baseball, and I'm excited to see
- 39:14Speaker 1: how this will continue to go for the University of Texas.
- 39:17Speaker 1: This is gonna be good. This is gonna be a
- 39:19Speaker 1: great series. Craig Waite joins us in seventeen minutes. You
- 39:22Speaker 1: can hear the game on one of three to one
- 39:24Speaker 1: Austin's eighty station five forty five hour time, six pm.
- 39:27Speaker 1: First pitch, and then from Houston, our guy Ross Valerie
- 39:32Speaker 1: comes on to talk Houston Rockets Golden State Warriors. Because
- 39:36Speaker 1: things got chippy last night between the Warriors and Rockets,
- 39:41Speaker 1: Dylan Brooks says, hey, if I had a bad ankle,
- 39:43Speaker 1: I'd be going after my ankle. What does it matter
- 39:45Speaker 1: if Steph Curry has a bad thumb, I'm going after
- 39:47Speaker 1: the thumb. So we'll talk about that. We will see
- 39:50Speaker 1: did the Rockets have a chance to rebound to come
- 39:53Speaker 1: back three to one against the Warriors to potentially win
- 39:57Speaker 1: that series? Now, remember they're the two seed in that series,
- 40:00Speaker 1: the young, up and coming Rockets versus the old dogs
- 40:03Speaker 1: on the block, the Golden State Warriors. Do the Rockets
- 40:05Speaker 1: have enough for the tank to get the job done.
- 40:07Speaker 1: We'll talk to Ross about that, But I want to
- 40:10Speaker 1: start here when we talked NBA playoffs tonight's matchups. This
- 40:15Speaker 1: will be a deciding game tonight, potential deciding game tonight
- 40:19Speaker 1: between the New York Knicks going to Detroit three to
- 40:22Speaker 1: two up on the Pistons, and then the Nuggets three
- 40:25Speaker 1: to two up on the Clippers. That games later to
- 40:28Speaker 1: net as well. But let's start Nix and Pistons here,
- 40:30Speaker 1: because it is what everybody has wanted from the NBA
- 40:36Speaker 1: since about the turn of the century. Let's be honest here,
- 40:38Speaker 1: we all wanted nineties basketball back. We were begging for it,
- 40:42Speaker 1: we were pleading for it. We want physicality. We want
- 40:44Speaker 1: old school rivalries, we want those teams that we grew
- 40:48Speaker 1: up watching. Well, here you go Nicks and Pistons, and
- 40:51Speaker 1: it feels as close to nineties basketball as you can
- 40:55Speaker 1: get without getting a time machine. The Knicks came into
- 40:59Speaker 1: this series. They're gritty. They lost last year in the playoffs.
- 41:03Speaker 1: They decided to move off of Randall, bring in karl
- 41:05Speaker 1: Anthy Towns, give them a secondary scorer, and Town's has
- 41:10Speaker 1: been playing incredible like he legitimately might be the best
- 41:14Speaker 1: scoring big left in the Eastern Conference. With him being
- 41:18Speaker 1: out for the majority of the season, he has looked
- 41:20Speaker 1: like the best big man on the Eastern Seaboard this season.
- 41:24Speaker 1: And now he goes into a series against the Pistons
- 41:27Speaker 1: that don't have the glitz. They don't have the glam.
- 41:31Speaker 1: They don't have the player that you're gonna put on
- 41:33Speaker 1: your wall. They don't have the guy who's cute. He's
- 41:38Speaker 1: gonna get to the free throw line twenty thirty times
- 41:40Speaker 1: a game.
- 41:41Speaker 2: But they gut is hard.
- 41:43Speaker 1: They got hard hats, they got hard hearts, they got
- 41:47Speaker 1: Isaiah Start willing to throw a hard right hook. Okay,
- 41:50Speaker 1: the Pistons are as close as you're gonna get to
- 41:54Speaker 1: the bad boys of the NBA at this point. Isaiah Steorart,
- 41:57Speaker 1: I've seen them on more of those fight videos on
- 42:00Speaker 1: Twitter that I have seen highlights of him play okay,
- 42:03Speaker 1: And that's why I think the series is so interesting,
- 42:06Speaker 1: and I think it's so interesting with where the Knicks are.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Okay.
- 42:11Speaker 1: The winner of the series plays the two seed Boston Celtics,
- 42:14Speaker 1: the defending champion Boston Celtics, and in a series that
- 42:18Speaker 1: is as physical as it has been in New York
- 42:22Speaker 1: and in Detroit. Between these two teams, in a series
- 42:25Speaker 1: that has been as physical as you can ask for,
- 42:28Speaker 1: as physical as you can win, you gotta wrap it
- 42:31Speaker 1: up tonight if you're in New York, because you cannot
- 42:34Speaker 1: afford for this series to go to a game number seven.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Everybody has always said it's been a common knowledge at
- 42:42Speaker 1: this point. The playoff basketball is just different. It takes
- 42:47Speaker 1: more out of you. That's why we have to give
- 42:49Speaker 1: them games in between, and weeks in between or days
- 42:52Speaker 1: in between games, because if you are playing a back
- 42:55Speaker 1: to back in a playoff series, somebody's gonna have to
- 42:57Speaker 1: go to the hospital, get an IV drip, go get
- 43:00Speaker 1: some oxygen, because guys are going all out. Doesn't matter
- 43:04Speaker 1: if it's game one, Game five, or god forbid, in
- 43:06Speaker 1: this series, a game number seven, you can't afford it
- 43:09Speaker 1: if you're in New York because you need to close
- 43:13Speaker 1: the book tonight. You cannot let Detroit back into this series.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Game number six, I should say game numbers yeah six
- 43:23Speaker 1: Tonight the game is in Detroit, so you know those
- 43:27Speaker 1: fans are going to go absolutely wild. They haven't had
- 43:29Speaker 1: a team to really cheer for in almost a decade.
- 43:34Speaker 1: This is one of the worst run franchises over the
- 43:37Speaker 1: last ten years. And now with Kate Cunningham, a former
- 43:41Speaker 1: number one overall pick, running the show for Detroit, they
- 43:44Speaker 1: look like a whole different type of ball club. They
- 43:46Speaker 1: look like the type of ball club that is going
- 43:48Speaker 1: to fight you tooth and nail to keep their playoff
- 43:52Speaker 1: hopes alive. New York Castle close the door tonight because
- 43:55Speaker 1: if you open it up for a game number seven,
- 43:57Speaker 1: anything can happen. Anything can happen if you open the
- 44:02Speaker 1: door up for a game number seven. New York has
- 44:05Speaker 1: to win it tonight. They can't afford to lose, and
- 44:08Speaker 1: then they have to go up against the defending champs,
- 44:11Speaker 1: the Boston Celtics, who did easy work, a gentleman's sweep
- 44:15Speaker 1: of the Orlando Magic. They're sitting back and they're enjoying
- 44:19Speaker 1: watching the NBA playoffs. They're sitting back and they're resting up.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Jalen Brown's busted.
- 44:24Speaker 5: K me.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Hey, he's getting some more icy hot on it. Jason
- 44:28Speaker 1: Tatum's wrists, he's got it in a bucket device as well.
- 44:31Speaker 2: He's fine.
- 44:32Speaker 1: They're watching the playoffs from the sideline, just deciding who
- 44:35Speaker 1: is going to be the team that has to face us,
- 44:37Speaker 1: has to come to the Garden and play us, Calves
- 44:40Speaker 1: and Pacers. That'll be another Midwest showdown. But it's fun.
- 44:46Speaker 1: It excites me that we have gotten to the point
- 44:49Speaker 1: now in the NBA, in the Eastern Conference where it
- 44:52Speaker 1: used to just be all of the big name cities
- 44:54Speaker 1: on the coast. It used to be just all the
- 44:56Speaker 1: big name cities on the Eastern seaboard. Oh hey, we're
- 44:59Speaker 1: rooting for the Celtic and the Knicks and the Philadelphia
- 45:01Speaker 1: seventy six ers in the Miami Heat. But now pendulum swung.
- 45:05Speaker 1: We're back in the Midwest. We're excited for Midwest basketball.
- 45:08Speaker 1: It's gonna be good tonight. Also, Denver and La the Clippers.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Lakers are out, Clippers trying not to join them. They're
- 45:19Speaker 1: down three games to two in the series. And with
- 45:24Speaker 1: the Denver Nuggets, you think about the two games that
- 45:26Speaker 1: they've won in the series to this point, right, they
- 45:29Speaker 1: were down two games to one. The two games that
- 45:31Speaker 1: they've won since one of those games came on a
- 45:34Speaker 1: tip in. Nikola Jokic just said, Hey, that wasn't a
- 45:39Speaker 1: three point or that wasn't a pass attempt. That was
- 45:41Speaker 1: a three point attempt that I took at the last
- 45:42Speaker 1: second that Aaron Gordon was able to dunk in to
- 45:45Speaker 1: win US game number three. And then in game number four,
- 45:50Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Game number four, Game number five, it was
- 45:52Speaker 1: the Jamal Murray Show. I didn't think we were ever
- 45:55Speaker 1: going to get a performance like that out of the
- 45:57Speaker 1: best export candidate might have ever had. Jamal Murray not
- 46:02Speaker 1: an All Star, but an all star performer in the playoffs, okay,
- 46:06Speaker 1: and all world performer in the playoffs. That is what
- 46:09Speaker 1: he was able to do in game number five to
- 46:12Speaker 1: get to this point for Denver.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Now, Denver, they have championship pedigree, but they're looking at
- 46:18Speaker 1: their way. Their brackets filled out to this point and
- 46:21Speaker 1: they're staying to themselves. We got to get the job
- 46:23Speaker 1: done to day as well. We're up three games two,
- 46:25Speaker 1: we're going to LA. We're sending the Clippers home. The
- 46:28Speaker 1: next opponent for them Oklahoma see Thunder, And I think
- 46:33Speaker 1: that this is exciting. Actually, I know this is exciting
- 46:37Speaker 1: because SGA Jake Gis Alexander for the Thunder is the
- 46:43Speaker 1: de facto MVP this season. It seems like you did
- 46:46Speaker 1: the straw polls before the playoffs started. He was the
- 46:48Speaker 1: guy that everybody was picking to win the MVP award.
- 46:51Speaker 1: It doesn't matter that yokiship better numbers. It doesn't matter
- 46:54Speaker 1: that Yokichi one of the best offensive seasons ever seventy
- 46:59Speaker 1: five years of NBA basketball. Yokic just season ranks as
- 47:02Speaker 1: one of the five best when you do the advanced stats,
- 47:05Speaker 1: the true shooting percentage, the efficiency rating, the way that
- 47:09Speaker 1: he averaged a triple double. Hey, remember when triple doubles
- 47:12Speaker 1: means something. Remember when Oklahoma c Thunder, where the fan
- 47:15Speaker 1: base that was banging the pots saying, hey, look at
- 47:17Speaker 1: our MVP, Brissell Westbrook. He's the MVP because he got
- 47:22Speaker 1: a triple double. Remember that now, Thunder fans don't care
- 47:25Speaker 1: anymore because Westbrook's on the Nuggets, because Yokic is averaging
- 47:28Speaker 1: the triple double this season as a center. They don't
- 47:30Speaker 1: care anymore because their guy Sga got them the number
- 47:33Speaker 1: one seed. They care more now about the wins. Okay,
- 47:38Speaker 1: but for the Nuggets, Okay, Hey, we get the job
- 47:41Speaker 1: done tonight in game number six. We get a chance
- 47:45Speaker 1: to dance with the number one seed. We get a
- 47:47Speaker 1: chance for our multi time MVP, for arguably the best
- 47:51Speaker 1: player on the planet. We get a chance to knock
- 47:57Speaker 1: off the guy that everybody says is the MVP. We
- 48:00Speaker 1: get a chance to knock off the guy that everybody's
- 48:02Speaker 1: been touting as the best small guard. Hey, we got Sga.
- 48:06Speaker 1: We're won sixty plus games. We're the team that everybody
- 48:12Speaker 1: wants to dang our chests on. No, the Nuggets are
- 48:15Speaker 1: trying to hush all of that. The four seed versus
- 48:19Speaker 1: the five, it's supposed to be a good series. But
- 48:22Speaker 1: I'm taking Denver tonight. I think that they have the
- 48:24Speaker 1: heart of the champions, something the Clippers lack historically speaking,
- 48:29Speaker 1: but also on this team, Yeah, Kauhai is a champion. Yeah,
- 48:33Speaker 1: he had a great series almost what seven years ago now,
- 48:37Speaker 1: when he was playing for the Toronto Raptors. That's the
- 48:39Speaker 1: last time Kawhi actually was on a team that could
- 48:42Speaker 1: win a title. Since then, it's been injuries, it's been
- 48:46Speaker 1: guys not showing up. And yeah, I think Kawai's gonna
- 48:49Speaker 1: have a good game tonight. But the rest of the Clippers,
- 48:51Speaker 1: you're expecting me to root for James Harten. James Harden
- 48:56Speaker 1: and Game number five looked more like Jim Harten. He
- 48:59Speaker 1: looked like the guy that could work in the accounting department.
- 49:01Speaker 1: He looks like the guy that didn't want to be there.
- 49:04Speaker 1: So it's gonna take James Harden, Powell, Zubac, it's gonna
- 49:10Speaker 1: take all those other Clippers to win the game tonight
- 49:13Speaker 1: for LA Game number six, anything can happen, obviously, But
- 49:18Speaker 1: I got my rooting interest in the Denver Nuggets. I
- 49:22Speaker 1: want to see Nuggets and Thunder in the second round.
- 49:25Speaker 1: I want to see what Jokic looks like when he's
- 49:27Speaker 1: looking across the court of the guy that everybody has
- 49:30Speaker 1: just given the MVP two. They just hey, here, here's there,
- 49:33Speaker 1: here's the trophy. Sgeah, you can take it. It's fine.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Your team won sixty games. The best player on the
- 49:38Speaker 1: planet plays for the Nuggets. But yeah, you're the most
- 49:41Speaker 1: valuable player. But the air quotes on that one, all right.
- 49:44Speaker 1: When we come back, Craig Way talking about the MVP.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Craig Way and the Texas Longhorns. Who will be the
- 49:50Speaker 1: MVP tonight in the SEC rivalry between number one Texas
- 49:55Speaker 1: and number eleven Arkansas. First pitch, six pm on one
- 49:59Speaker 1: oh three to one time five forty five. Listen to
- 50:02Speaker 1: it on the free iHeartRadio. When we come back, Craig
- 50:05Speaker 1: joins the program NAX in the Craigway Show on Sports
- 50:07Speaker 1: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 50:11Speaker 1: hundred The Zone. Well, it's the Hackfields and the Quays.
- 50:14Speaker 1: They've been playing each other for over one hundred years.
- 50:16Speaker 1: It's Texas and Arkansas tonight and Craig Way is on
- 50:21Speaker 1: the call. Craig, how are you doing in Fandville?
- 50:23Speaker 2: Man?
- 50:24Speaker 3: I'm great.
- 50:25Speaker 5: One slide added on that Arkansas went without baseball for
- 50:28Speaker 5: a long time, so they really only have been playing
- 50:31Speaker 5: in baseball since nineteen seventy four, a little over fifty
- 50:35Speaker 5: years now. But you're exactly right about football. It goes
- 50:38Speaker 5: way way way back in basketball as well, and you know,
- 50:43Speaker 5: but they made up for lost time here in Arkansas.
- 50:45Speaker 3: They're really good.
- 50:46Speaker 5: Every year they've had I mean, I'm looking at their
- 50:49Speaker 5: outfield board. That's one, two, three, four, five, ten, fifteen, twenty,
- 50:53Speaker 5: twenty five, thirty appearances in the College World Series in
- 50:57Speaker 5: the fifty one years I guess that they've had, uh
- 51:01Speaker 5: collegiate baseball program. So they've been they've been really really
- 51:04Speaker 5: good and uh, they they're they're going to be and
- 51:07Speaker 5: they've been good again this year. They've had a stumble
- 51:09Speaker 5: or two of late and some of these weekend series
- 51:12Speaker 5: and some of that has to do with the injuries.
- 51:13Speaker 5: But every team in the in the throughout the uh
- 51:17Speaker 5: the course of the country, including Texas and the SEC,
- 51:21Speaker 5: has had to deal with the injury bug.
- 51:23Speaker 3: So uh, that's that's been part of it.
- 51:25Speaker 5: But they've got some guys back healthy and this ought
- 51:27Speaker 5: to be a fun series.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Well, speaking of really really good, Texas Longhorns cracked ten
- 51:32Speaker 1: straight wins, number one team in the country three straight
- 51:34Speaker 1: weeks in a row. I didn't know it could get
- 51:37Speaker 1: this good, but boy, I'm loving it.
- 51:40Speaker 5: Well what they're doing, if if if you ask people.
- 51:46Speaker 5: And I brought this up last weekend to keep Morland.
- 51:49Speaker 5: I said, if if someone were to tell you, uh,
- 51:54Speaker 5: what's it the older ESPN thirty for thirty. What if
- 51:57Speaker 5: I told you that, uh, with nine games to go
- 52:02Speaker 5: in the season, nine conference games to go in the season,
- 52:07Speaker 5: the Texas would be thirty eight to five, that they
- 52:10Speaker 5: would be ranked number one in the nation in all polls,
- 52:14Speaker 5: and that they would have a five game lead in
- 52:16Speaker 5: the conference standings with nine to go.
- 52:18Speaker 3: You know, and the answer nobody would believe that. Nobody,
- 52:23Speaker 3: including Jim's last tangle.
- 52:24Speaker 5: He would tell you that, you know, they thought they
- 52:26Speaker 5: could be good, and especially to be up five with
- 52:32Speaker 5: your number one Friday Night started gone for the year
- 52:34Speaker 5: and your best hitter who's been out for over a
- 52:37Speaker 5: month now. They hope to get Max Blue back on
- 52:40Speaker 5: the field, if not for the Oklahoma series in a
- 52:43Speaker 5: couple of weeks, then certainly in time for conference tournament
- 52:46Speaker 5: play in Hoover, Alabama, the SEC Tournament. But to be
- 52:50Speaker 5: where they are, to do what they have done without
- 52:54Speaker 5: some key pieces has been mind boggling to a lot
- 52:57Speaker 5: of people.
- 52:58Speaker 3: And I would just tell you this.
- 53:00Speaker 5: Zim, It's it's some might think it's smoking mirrors because
- 53:05Speaker 5: it's different guys doing different things on a different day.
- 53:07Speaker 5: There's no with Blue out of the lineup. There's no
- 53:10Speaker 5: real big boppers on the team. In terms of the offense. Uh,
- 53:15Speaker 5: there's no picture that who singularly is mowing people down
- 53:20Speaker 5: other than Dylan Valantis, who was the last freshman really
- 53:25Speaker 5: to sign a scholarship offer with Texas. So he kind
- 53:28Speaker 5: of appeared from nowhere after signing and has been absolutely phenomenal.
- 53:34Speaker 5: So it's been different guys doing different things. You know,
- 53:36Speaker 5: Schloss has developed this this phrase, it's either a three
- 53:41Speaker 5: word phrase or a two word phrase. With all the
- 53:45Speaker 5: injuries they sustain, the two word phrase applies win anyway,
- 53:49Speaker 5: you know, you just win anyway. Then in finding the
- 53:53Speaker 5: different routes to victory, it's three words, win any way.
- 53:58Speaker 5: So they've had to find different ways to do it.
- 54:02Speaker 5: And whether it's a late game hit, you know, somebody
- 54:06Speaker 5: out of the bullpen giving them four innings of work unexpectedly,
- 54:10Speaker 5: things like that, all of that I think has added.
- 54:12Speaker 3: Up to where they are right now.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Well, it sounds like you already have the thirty for
- 54:15Speaker 1: thirty title done. Craig win anyway, sounds we figured it out.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, something like that. If they if they go
- 54:21Speaker 3: on and win this thing, you know.
- 54:22Speaker 5: But they have three difficult series remaining. Obviously, this one
- 54:30Speaker 5: with Arkansas is going.
- 54:32Speaker 3: To be tough.
- 54:32Speaker 5: While the Razorbacks have dropped to the last three or
- 54:38Speaker 5: two of three in the last three series, and they
- 54:40Speaker 5: played good teams, you know, in playing Florida last weekend,
- 54:44Speaker 5: in playing Texas A and M and playing Georgia. You know,
- 54:49Speaker 5: while they've done that, they can still they can mash
- 54:51Speaker 5: the ball. They've got some guys who can still pitch
- 54:54Speaker 5: very well. This is a real hitter friendly ballpark here.
- 54:59Speaker 5: It's beautiful ballpark, by the way, and whether if the
- 55:02Speaker 5: weather's were going to looks like it's blowing out a
- 55:04Speaker 5: little bit toward left today, so that could be. It's
- 55:08Speaker 5: only three twenty down the lines here, so it's quite
- 55:10Speaker 5: hit or friendly here at this ballpark. So they're really
- 55:14Speaker 5: good team. And then the Long Horns have to play Florida,
- 55:17Speaker 5: who's surging, who comes off taking two of three from Arkansas. Yeah,
- 55:22Speaker 5: they're only eight and thirteen in the league, but they
- 55:24Speaker 5: have been surging of late. And that would be at
- 55:26Speaker 5: home on Senior weekend. And then they're going to finish
- 55:29Speaker 5: it Oklahoma. And that's where that phrase it is what
- 55:33Speaker 5: it is applies. When it's long orange against the Sooners,
- 55:35Speaker 5: they're going to have to deal with that. And Oklahoma's
- 55:37Speaker 5: a really solid ball club too, So to be up
- 55:41Speaker 5: five with nine to play in conference, that's a solid thing.
- 55:46Speaker 5: That's very good because they may need some cushion. They
- 55:51Speaker 5: might really need some cushion when they get down the stretch.
- 55:53Speaker 5: Here as it stands now, it's kind of a floating
- 55:56Speaker 5: magic number.
- 55:58Speaker 3: It's been.
- 55:59Speaker 5: It's either four or five, depending on how you're looking at.
- 56:02Speaker 5: For example, Arkansas and LSU are both tied for second
- 56:06Speaker 5: in the league. The magic number versus Arkansas four. If
- 56:10Speaker 5: they win two of these games, had they had they
- 56:12Speaker 5: eliminate Arkansas from it. LSU Texas has the tie break
- 56:17Speaker 5: on them, so it would be a magic number four
- 56:21Speaker 5: for clinching at least a tie and the number one
- 56:25Speaker 5: seed since they owned the head to have tie breaker
- 56:27Speaker 5: on LSU having won the series back in March in Austin,
- 56:30Speaker 5: But to win it outright, the magic number would be five,
- 56:33Speaker 5: So four or five whatever, And they're not dialed into
- 56:37Speaker 5: any of that.
- 56:38Speaker 3: That's just what media people like me.
- 56:40Speaker 5: That's what we do is we figure out the numbers
- 56:42Speaker 5: and hey, what do they need to do to do
- 56:44Speaker 5: this or do that or whatever. And this group has
- 56:46Speaker 5: just gone about playing baseball, which is part of the
- 56:48Speaker 5: reason why they're having so much success.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Well, part of the reason I love baseball, Craig is
- 56:52Speaker 1: you get to use phrases like big Bopper talks about
- 56:55Speaker 1: Rylean galvaugh because he has been I think the bopper
- 56:58Speaker 1: who stepped up now that Blue is.
- 56:59Speaker 5: On, well he's you know what he's done is he's
- 57:03Speaker 5: become a much more accomplished hitter. When he was in
- 57:06Speaker 5: high school in Centon, which is down by Corpus Christie,
- 57:10Speaker 5: he was coached by Adrian Alanize, who was a freshman
- 57:13Speaker 5: right hander twenty years ago when Texas won the national championship.
- 57:17Speaker 5: Adrian was an outstanding pitcher for the Longhorns, and now
- 57:21Speaker 5: it has proven.
- 57:22Speaker 3: To be a great high school coach.
- 57:24Speaker 5: He's won three or four state championships, including one with
- 57:27Speaker 5: Ryland Galvan on the team. Ryland was a hit the
- 57:31Speaker 5: all fields guy when he played them. When he got
- 57:33Speaker 5: to Texas, he got a little bit one dimensional for
- 57:36Speaker 5: a time. But Troy Tilwitsky has worked diligently with Galvan
- 57:41Speaker 5: and he's gotten to the point where he can hit
- 57:43Speaker 5: the all fields and hit some with power, and that's
- 57:46Speaker 5: what's made him a much more discipline hitter this year.
- 57:50Speaker 5: And he's you bring him up, he's a veteran. Then
- 57:53Speaker 5: you got younger guys and transfers. You know, you have
- 57:58Speaker 5: a guy in Ethan Mendoz who in the leadoff spot
- 58:01Speaker 5: for Texas.
- 58:02Speaker 3: He's a native Texan. He played at South.
- 58:03Speaker 5: Lake Carol, but he started at Arizona State, but he
- 58:06Speaker 5: always wanted to be a long one. When the coaching
- 58:08Speaker 5: change happened and he put he was in the portal
- 58:12Speaker 5: and when Schlas had interest in he wanted to come
- 58:14Speaker 5: back home to Texas. He's a real interesting case. Here's
- 58:17Speaker 5: a guy who's the long one's leading hitter right now
- 58:20Speaker 5: among the active players. He's batting three fifty three. He
- 58:23Speaker 5: leads the team in batting average, he leads them in triples,
- 58:28Speaker 5: he leads them in multi hit games. He has twenty
- 58:31Speaker 5: one multi hit games. This is the same guy who
- 58:34Speaker 5: three weeks ago at Kentucky injured his shoulder playing second
- 58:38Speaker 5: base diving for a ball, and so the shoulder is healing,
- 58:44Speaker 5: but he's unable to play the field right now. So
- 58:47Speaker 5: he goes in and he's and he's the DH. Then
- 58:50Speaker 5: you got a guy and Adrian Rodriguez who came in
- 58:52Speaker 5: and just lit it up as a freshman switch hitter,
- 58:55Speaker 5: was tearing it up, was looking great, and then he
- 58:59Speaker 5: took a pitch in off the top of his hand
- 59:02Speaker 5: right by the handmate bone. Fortunately it didn't break the bone,
- 59:05Speaker 5: but it did have an edema, and he's had a
- 59:07Speaker 5: hard time coming back for that. Now he's been able
- 59:09Speaker 5: to go back in the field and he alternates between
- 59:12Speaker 5: playing second base and.
- 59:13Speaker 3: In left field.
- 59:15Speaker 5: And a rod as they like to call him, has
- 59:19Speaker 5: to bat exclusively from the left side of the plate,
- 59:23Speaker 5: and he's always hit well against right handers from that
- 59:27Speaker 5: left side of the plate, but he couldn't hit left
- 59:29Speaker 5: handers from that left side of the plate. In fact,
- 59:33Speaker 5: ZIM going into the Texas A and M weekend series
- 59:39Speaker 5: against left handed pitching, Adrian Rodriguez was batting, had had
- 59:45Speaker 5: two hits two total, two for twenty seven against left handers.
- 59:50Speaker 5: Then over the weekend he got five hits. So he
- 59:54Speaker 5: got four over the weekend and one on Tuesday, night.
- 59:56Speaker 5: So now he's seven for thirty four against left handers.
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: He's batten in two oh six against left he's that's
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: better than fifty one, and he's hitting three point thirty
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: seven against right handers. So it's been an interesting mix
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: of different guys who've had to contribute. Jalen Flores probably
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: has not had the type of offensive season folks thought
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: he would have. The right now, Jalen is batting two
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: seventy six, but he's second in the SEC in doubles,
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: and he's developed a knack for the clutch and leads
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: the team in hits that have either tied or given
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: Texas to lead this season. For what that's worth, so
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: that different guys win any way, different guys who contributed, a.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Lot of different guys. The pitching staff is going to
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: be kind of I think set after this weekend going
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: into next week as well as the SEC regular season
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: wraps up. First pitch Tonight, six pm, five forty five
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: airtime on one of three one, Austin's agy station. Craig,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Have I missed anything?
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: No, this but this this is going to be a
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: I think a very well tightly contested series. I think
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: throughout the course of the weekend and uh and we'll
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: do this again tomorrow as ZIM and recap kind of
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: game one and look ahead the game too.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I love that it's a Thursday, Friday, Saturday because I
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: get to talk to you after a game. This never happens, Creig.
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: I like it because I'm back in my living room
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: by late Saturday night.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Greg Way, thanks so much, Greig. All right, we'll see
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Andrew all right when we come back. Rockets and Warriors.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: That might be the half fields of McCoy of the
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: NBA all coming up next on sports Radio AM thirteen
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: hundred Zone Sorts Radio AM thirteen hundred of the Zone
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: is our number two of the Craig Way Show. Rolls
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: along and on our phone line right now, friend from
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Sports Radio seven to ninety in Houston. I figured i'd
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: get the Houston side of things. It's Ross Villareal.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Ross.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: How you doing today, buddy. How the Houston Rockets feeling
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: after beating up Steph Curry last night?
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: Yeah, we're feeling a lot better. Obviously, getting down three
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: to one not the way you wanted to play out,
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: but you do get two of the three games out
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: of at home if you can win a game number
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: six on the road and force a game seven. So
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: a big test coming up on Friday. But feel a
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: lot better than we were, say pre tip off.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Yesterday, which I think is so funny. So let's start here.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: The Golden State Warriors took a three to one lead,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: the game goes back to Houston, and Houston absolutely dominated
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Golden State last night one thirty one, one sixteen, and
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: Steve Kerr for the first time in a long time,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: felt like he was way in over his head.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: I think part of the reason that the season the
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: series turned the way that it did is that the
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: Rockets are the younger team. They're very physical and perhaps
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: wearing down the Warriors a bit. I mean, you have
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: Draymond Green thirty five years old, Jimmy Butler with a
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: hip injury, and thirty five years old Steph Curry thirty seven,
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: and they looked every bit that age. In Game five
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: at home in Houston was the third game in five nights,
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: first couple of games of this season. You were getting
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: this series, I should say, getting a couple of days
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: in between games. Now it's every other night, and that
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: to me tips the scale to the young Rockets. Advantage
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: to where they can get out on transition. Steph Curry
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: looked like he didn't even want to be there. And
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: then by the middle of the third quarter, five point
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: fifty mark of the third quarter, Steve Curse said, we're
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: packing it in. We were having the veterans sit down.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: We're going to try to win this bad boy in
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: San Francisco on Friday. Now, of course, the Rockets bench
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: unfortunately didn't hold out there into the bargain. They had
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: to have the starters check back in for a little
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: bit there in the fourth but no harm, no fouts.
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: Rockets get to win, and I think they're in a
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: great position to get a win in San Francisco on Saturday.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: The human victories to guard reached. Sheppard got minutes ross
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: like this is huge.
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: Reached Shepherd man, Bless his soul, he got seven. He
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: was in there for six and a half minutes. He
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: didn't score a point and he was a minus fifteen,
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: so not a great playoff debut for him. They had
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: to check the starters back in as like it was like, Okay,
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: why is who the heck is Kevin Knox and why
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: is he going off? Moses Moody and Pat pat Spencer,
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: who's this guy? Like?
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: It was all these nobodies at the end of the.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: Bench for the Golden State Warriors playing like they were
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: the eighty six Celtics and just destroying the rockets. Say
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: that checked the starters.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: Back in all right?
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Now, the national media obviously is against you guys, mostly
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: because of Dylan Brooks, Dylan the villain, and he was
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: accused on the Golden State broadcast of going after that.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: Right thumb of Steph Curry.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: Now, Brooks came in in the post game and said, Hey,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: if I had a bum ankle, they'd come after my ankle.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: I know that you're gonna look at things maybe through
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: a little red sunglasses here, Ross, But what is your take?
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Do you think that Dylan Brooks is going after Steph
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Curry's thumb?
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: I honestly don't know.
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: I'm gonna tell you it wouldn't shock me if that
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: was the case. I saw the slow down. This is
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: the thing too, This is the thing we do too
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: much in twenty twenty five. We put everything in super
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: slow motion and then we think we can figure things out.
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: Sometimes you gotta look at things in full speed. If
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: you look at that play where people are trying to
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: act like he swiped that it in full speed. You know,
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: people are breaking this down, like, look, Steph Curry clearly
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: gets the shot off and Dylan Brooks five seconds later
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: he's swiping at his hand. It's like, well, if you
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: played in real time, the ball just leaves his hand
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: and he's swiping at him. So I don't know, it's
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: a gray area to me. Would I be shocked if
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: if Dylan Brooks is trying to key in on Steph
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: Curry's thumb, No, I wouldn't. But I mean that's just
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: wayoff basketball.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: That's that's how it goes. That's I mean you had
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: I mean.
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: Kevin McHale back speaking of the eighty six Celtics back
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: in the day, Kevin McHale was out there trying to
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: play a break and broken foot and Detroit business players
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: are literally stomping on his foot the whole game. So
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: this is just kind of part of the game. It's
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: the way that it goes. And and Draymond Green on
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: the flip side, I mean, that guy will go after anyone.
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: There is a clip from a twenty seventeen series I
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: think it was where Draymond Green literally punches James Harden
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: in his injured hand and then admitted as much after
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: the game. So, if you know, you don't want to say,
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: you know, an eye for an eye in this situation,
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: but it's just kind of the way of the world
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: in any sport. If you're going to go out there
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: and you're not a one hundred percent, the other guys
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: are going to find a way to find an advantage.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: We're talking about Friend Ross from Sports seven ninety Sports
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: Talk seven ninety in Houston about the Rockets and Warriors series. Now, Ross,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: the other part that's kind of fascinating to me about
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: this series is that it is one of the longest
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: rivalries in the modern NBA. Like we've got in ten
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: years of Rockets and Warriors in the playoffs going back
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: and forth against each other. How much of that plays
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: into this do you think?
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: I think very little for this team. I mean maybe
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: for the fans and.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: For me as well.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Like and also, is it a rivalry If the Rockets
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: never beat the Warriors, liked, doesn't rivalry? And it kind
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: of imply that it's been a little bit of a
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: back and forth. I mean, the Rockets has been beat
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: down by the Warriors for the last ten years. It
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: definitely hangs over our heads. Like when you see Steph
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: Curry throw up another prayer fallaway shot, not even looking
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: at the basket. This is the thing to me, Andrew,
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: it's not even that like it rattles in or for
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: banks in, like it just splashes in, no net, no nothing,
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: Like how does he make these shots so perfectly? He
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: is just from another planet, Steph Curry. So we're definitely
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: sick of him. We're sick of Draymond Green beating up
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: and starting altercations all over the time. Like getting over
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: the Warriors hup would be huge. Meant, it would be
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: huge for the Rockets to get to the conference semifinals
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: and have home court advantage against the Minnesota Timberwolves. It
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: would also just be huge for all of us to
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: breathe a sigh of release of this reign of terror
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: that Steph Curry, Steve curR and Draymond Green have been
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: putting on us here in Houston for a decade.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: It's funny that you talk about the Wolves, because I
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: was talking about him Men Thompson for the Rockets, and
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I was saying that I like the way he's progressed
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: and grant. He's a little older coming into the league
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: than Anthony Edwards was, But I think that that's kind
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: of Thompson's ceiling. What have you liked at him in
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: this series?
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I've been talking that he had real bad game
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: in Game three. I think it was where they were
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: just completely hanging off of them. Jimmy Butler was out
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: of the starting lineup. They went with Quinton Post and
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: they were giving him a runway and saying, hey, we're
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: going to back up all the way to the basket.
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: If you can make anything in the mid range, good
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: luck on you and men. Thompson was poor in that
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: game and he shot five to sixteen from the field.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: But in the next couple of games he's been knocking
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: down some of those shots with confidence. But also part
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: of his game isn't really.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: Just being in the half court.
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: That's not where he thrives because he is not a
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: half court player. He's not a really good shooter at
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: this point in his career. So he's been getting out
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: more in transition. He's been getting more of the basket
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: cuts and those and putbacks and easy baskets for him
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: to be able to score. And he's been a big
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: part of well keeping in the game in Game four
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: and then winning the game in Game five to where
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: he had five steals in that first half. He was
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: just a minute on the defensive end of the floor
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: and creating some of his own offense with those steels that.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: He was getting.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: Do you think that this series can get to a
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: game seven?
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: Ross?
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely. To me, this is the coin flip game
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: coming up on Friday. Vegas has the Rockets and open
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: in five and a half. I think it's sitting in
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: four and a half right now. To me, it's a
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: coin flipper. Anything can happen. Steph Curry could very well
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: go off. I do think those are the fatigue and
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: the wear down factor of the veteran players of the
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: Warriors is real. So if I want to kind of
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: invent an edge for myself, in my mind.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: It lies there.
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: And then if they come back to game seven and
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: play in Houston again, that's I think it's wraps. I
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: think the Rockets take it in Game seven at home.
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: The Warriors will be defeated in my opinion, so they
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: have to win it in game seven tomorrow. To me,
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: coin flipper game. We'll see how it goes.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: You can follow him on x Sports r V. You
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: must have jumped on that immediately. I don't think anybody
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: else is looking for that handle their Ross. Congratulations on that,
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: and congratulations and Rockets. Hopefully you can get a game seven.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll see. I will be rooting for them. So
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: we are the home of the Rockets at Sports Talk
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: seven ninety in Houston. We like, you know, the teams
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: in Houston that win championships, we carry on Sports Talk
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: seven ninety. So I'm hoping to have them back in
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: he Houston for a game seven.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Yes, you listen to on the free iHeartRadio app as well. Ross,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Thanks man, thank you. It's time all right. When we
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: come back, we will wrap up our number two of
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: the Craig Ways Show and put a bow on it.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: War coming up next on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: of Zone Them, We'll hanging out with you. This is
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Thursday after noon. Hour Number three of the Craigway Show
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: rolls on Craig Is in Fayanville, Arkansas, as the Texas
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Baseball Program travels to take on the Razorbacks.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: First pitch six pm.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: To night five forty five airtime on one oh three
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: one Austin's eighty station.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: It's gonna be a good one. Craig told us.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: A little bit behind the scenes, was saying that he
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: expected this to be a very competitive series, which is
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: something that we like. I also like a Thursday, Friday,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Saturday three game series because I get to talk to
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Craig in between the games. He likes the three game
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: serious because he gets to go back to his house.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: He gets to be home on a Saturday afternoon. I
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: totally get that. I understand that Sunday Sunday evening you
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: want to be where you need to be. You don't
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: want to have to be traveling. I totally understand that.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: So all three games can be heard on one of
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: three one Austin's Day station, and of course on the
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: free iHeartRadio app.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: Make the zone.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: This station you're listening to currently your number one preset.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: But if I had to look, I don't want to
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: tell you what to do, but I would give you
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: a suggestion to make Austin' Day Station one of three
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: one preset number two. You can do the presets the
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: same way you do on in your car. It makes
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: it easier for you to get to the station you
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: need to get to to listen to the University of
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Texas Athletics.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: Just a suggestion.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: News out of college football today, Trey Taylor, the number
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: one top passer in the class of twenty twenty seven,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: will he announced where he's gonna go today. He decided
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: to stay in the Midwest. Covety recruit out of Illinois,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: He's going to Nebraska. Folks, Yeah, Nebraska. Taylor becomes the
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: first player to commit to the Huskers in the twenty
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: twenty seventh cycle, giving his verbal pledge RUSS roughly twenty
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: months before the eligibility form needs to be signed. Now
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: six foot three hundred and eighty five pounds, he follows
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Ohio State pledge Brady Emmons as the second elite quarterback
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: prospect to announce already. Taylor shows between the Huskers. He
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: also had offers from Illinois, LSU, and Texas A and M.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Now he's the former or he's the son of the
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: former Eastern Illinois Husky's running back j R. Taylor, who
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: ran for fifty one touchdowns as a college teammate. A
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: former four time Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo talked about
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: a sixty Degrees of Operations story Trey Taylor has thrown
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: for three thousand yards, twenty touchdowns, seven interceptions, and only
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: his sophomore season. What makes this a little bit more interesting,
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: of course, is that he's going to sit behind Dylan Royola,
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: who is the current quarterback, who is I guess related
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: to Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: I think their cousins.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: He dresses like him, which is kind of weird to me,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: but whatever, Glenn Thomas is the quarterback coach.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Quote, sitting down.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Next to coach Thomas and getting the offense, seeing how
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: the coaches how they coached Dylan to the next level.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: I really can't wait, Taylor told ESPN earlier today. So
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: the Husky or the Huskers get their quarterback for the future,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: future future. I don't know what this means for Big
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Ten football. What I do know what this means is
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: that the hype around Nebraska, which has not been very
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: quiet over the last decade after they bring in Scott
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Frost and now Matt Ruhl is running the pro they
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: have tried to kind of figure out where do they
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: fit in college football, and with NIL and the transfer
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: portal and everything that goes with that and comes with it,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: you have to imagine that programs that were very successful
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: in the eighties and nineties are now going to probably
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: have a resurgence. I find it quite fascinating in fact,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: that the University of Nebraska has a lot of donors
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: in their state. I think I read somewhere that of
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: all of the universities at the power for level, I
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: think they hold the record for most in state donations
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: to their program. So that means that other schools that
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: they might have big donors who are outside of the state.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: I think Nebraska they were either number one or they're
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: in the top ten when it comes to donors inside
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: the border of the state that the school is in.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: It's one of those fascinating statistics that you have for
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: college football that, yeah, it doesn't matter a ton, but
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: it is something to kind of consider when we talk
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: about Nebraska football. And again in the Big Ten, where
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: you have Ohio State and Michigan both winning national championships,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: in Penn State making the playoffs last year, the competitiveness
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: in that conference is second only to the competitiveness of
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: the se seed. All Right, all other news and notes,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: NBA playoffs continue to roll on Tonight, we get two
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: big games New York Knicks Detroit Pistons. Game is in Detroit.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: New York holds a three to two series lead in
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: the seven game series against the Pistons, and I think
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Detroit is going to give everything blood, sweat and tears
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: to make sure that they continue their season tonight.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: It'll be curious.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: It will be interesting to see how guys like Kid
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: Cunningham show up in his first playoff experience. Jalen Brunston,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Karl Amfty Towns both have played in big games before,
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: but to close Detroit out in Detroit would mean a
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: lot for this team going forward. And if I know
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: anything about Tom Thibodeau, the head coach of the New
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: York Knicks, I hope that Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Karl
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Anthony Towns. I hope that entire starting five they get
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: used to playing. Because they're playing forty eight minutes today
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: in a close out game. Thibodeau is going to run
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: those boys into the dirt. He's gonna run them until
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: they're raw. So I'm hoping that the Knicks get the
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: job done, if for no other reason that I do
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: not want to see them run out.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: For a game seven.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: As fatigued as I know that they potentially could be
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: if they don't get the job done tonight. Speaking of fatigue,
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: you're gonna be fatigued. I'm gonna be fatigued because Detroit
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: or Denver and LA the Clippers the final LA team
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: left after the Lakers lost yesterday to the Minnesota Timberls.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: The Clippers and Nuggets tonight nine pm tip. So that
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: game is not gonna get done until almost one am
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: Central Standard time, but it's gonna mean a lot. I
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: had to fight sleep. I was fighting off the sandman
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: to see a game winning dunk from Aaron Gordon in
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: game number four, and now game number five, Jamal Murray
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: showed up, got put the Nuggets on his back, took
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: them to now the brink of chance to match up
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: with the Oklahoma ce Thunder and round number two. Yeah,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: you fight and fight and fight this Clippers team that's
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: not going away, and then yeah, congratulations, you get the
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: number one seed that won sixty plus games and has
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: the preeminitive MVP, the guy who we all have said
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: that SGA will be the MVP of the of the
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: NBA this season. So yeah, talk about getting a nice break.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: A better team that had a break would be the
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: to Minnesota Timbrels, who won last night's game against the
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: LA Lakers, a team that with Luca a little bit
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: banged up. He was sick in Game three, he had
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: a bad back. Last night, Wolves showed up, showed out,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: dominated essentially from start to finish. Almost made JJ Reddick cry.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: At one point in the pre game, he was very
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: upset that he was getting questions about how his team
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: was set up to win this series after not playing
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: a center, after deciding to play Maxi Kleeber last night,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: JJ Redick is getting a lot a lot of grief today,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: and rightfully so. I think when you're a rookie head
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: coach and you're giving the keys to one of the
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: premier franchises in not only the NBA but in North
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: American sports, expectations come with that. There's a lot of expectations.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: There's a lot of eyeballs, especially when you fail to
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: have good rotations, especially when you're making decisions that the
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: guy on the couch could say, I don't agree with that,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: and when the results, again, it's the result driven business.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: You and I working dollars and cents. NBA franchises, Yeah,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: dollars and cents matter, but wins and losses matter more.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: Wins and losses are the results that you're looking for
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: when you're the head coach of an NBA franchise, and
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: the Lakers under JJ Reddick better than last season, but
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: not where you want to be. When you have a
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: guy like Lebron James, and when you have a guy
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: like Luka Doncick, you can't lose games. You can't lose
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: in the first round. You sure cannot lose as the
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: higher seed Lakers with a three seed in the matchup,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: the Wolves have to go to the Western Conference finals.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: Last year trade away Carling. If the town's struggled throughout
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: most of the season, they now were in the second round.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: Anthony Edwards is getting all of the flowers, as he
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: rightfully should. JJ Reddick is getting all the tomatoes, probably
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: as he rightfully should as well. So the funniest part
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: to me is the Lebron James angle of all of this,
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: where people were asking him are you going to retire?
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: Are you done? Where do you go from here?
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: All those type of questions that a guy like Lebron
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: will get, and he's been able to bat him away. Oh,
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: I'm going to make my decision later. We all know
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: that he's not going anywhere if no other reason. Next
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: season will be year number twenty three. He's worn twenty
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: three his entire career. Michael Jordan wore number twenty three.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: And oh, by the way, the All Star Game is
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: in LA next year. And if there's anything you can
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: pretty much mark in right in permanent marker, it's Lebron
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: James will be an All Star. There's no way that
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: Lebron is going to give up a chance to play
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: his final All Star Game in LA in year number
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: twenty three. There's no way that he's not playing one
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: more season.
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: Now.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Are the Lakers going to be competitive team next year
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: and try to win a title next year?
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: Probably not even with Luca. This team feels many, many
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: pieces away from being a true title contender, especially in
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: the Western Conference. But I can guarantee you that Lebron
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: James will play one more season, all right, when we come.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: Back more NBA.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: In fact, perfect segue into which small market superstar is
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: most likely to get moved this offseason. We'll talk about
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: next to the Craigway Show on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: The Zone Sports Radio Am thirteen hundred The Zone Andrew
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: Zim will hanging out with you this Thursday. Texas Baseball
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: plays tonight six pm, first pitch, five forty five airtime
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: on one of three one Austin's eighty station. Craigway will
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: be on the call from Arkansas consensus number one Texas
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: baseball team taking on number eleven Arkansas. As long Horns
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: have won ten consecutive games, ten straight games. It's their
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: second winning streak of ten plus games this season. But
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: we're not gonna talk about it. We don't want to
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: jink some We'll talk to Craig tomorrow after the Longhorns
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: get the job done and hopefully win. According to Craig,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: every one of these games are going to be down
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: to the water. They're going to be very exciting games
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: for the University of Texas. So if you have a chance,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: you should have a chance. You should be listening on
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: one oh three to one Austin's Ady Station, five forty
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: five hour time, six pm, first pitch. All right, we
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: were talking about Lebron james potential retirement. Many people have
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: been clamoring for this for the Beast, I don't know,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: probably half decade they've been asking when will Lebron retire?
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: While the old man ever slowed down in every single
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: step of the way, he said, not so fast. But
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: now after three consecutive first round exits, things are starting
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: to get a little crazy in La La Land now.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Seam Sharani was on the Pat McAfee show earlier today.
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: He was talking about Lebron and potential hanging up the
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: uh the old Jays.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: There's no expectation for Lebron James over retirement.
- 1:22:53Speaker 7: I will say that my sense, my understanding is he
- 1:22:56Speaker 7: will play at least.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: Another NBA season.
- 1:22:59Speaker 7: You think about here, twenty five to twenty six, it'll
- 1:23:02Speaker 7: be year twenty three. That would settle league record year
- 1:23:05Speaker 7: twenty three for number twenty three. The All Star Game
- 1:23:07Speaker 7: is in Los Angeles.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: He potentially playing in Los Angeles.
- 1:23:11Speaker 7: There's a lot of stars that would align for next
- 1:23:13Speaker 7: season potentially. If that's what Lebron James decides, he'd be
- 1:23:17Speaker 7: forty one years old in December. He's forty years old
- 1:23:20Speaker 7: right now. So the expectation is he's going to be
- 1:23:23Speaker 7: playing at least another season, but again, how long And
- 1:23:27Speaker 7: the other thing Pat is does, the Bryce James, his
- 1:23:31Speaker 7: son does that factor play into it at all.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: His son is going to be potentially.
- 1:23:35Speaker 7: Draft eligible in twenty twenty six next year. So if
- 1:23:40Speaker 7: he feels at some point next year, Bryce James might
- 1:23:44Speaker 7: be an NBA player, might be a draft eligible player,
- 1:23:48Speaker 7: does he extend that window?
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: Oh boy, here we go again. Will Lebron play with
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: his son? He's playing with Ronnie right now. Will he
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: stay around for Bryce? That's exactly what every single NBA fan,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: casual and die hard alike loves to hear from Sham Sharani. Now,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: of course, some things do catch your attention. Yeah, twenty
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: three for number twenty three, that makes sense. All Star
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Game in LA, that makes sense. The kid thing. Man, Look,
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: I was defending Ronnie James's draft pick at number fifty five.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: How many other number fifty five picks does anybody know
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: in the league? Unless you are locked in, locked in
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: on your favorite franchise, most of us do not know
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: where our second round picks go. We know if we
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: have a lottery pick, we know if we have a
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: late first round pick, we hope that those guys will be.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: Contributors to our teams.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: But for the most part, we kind of have the
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: idea that if you are a late round pick, enjoy
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: the G League, continue to develop, Maybe you turn into
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: somebody that's decent. Maybe you turn into a role player
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: near the end of the bad Maybe lightning strikes and
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: you get a monaging nobly second round pick. This guy's
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: a future Hall of Famer type of steel. But those
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: are one in a billion. When Ronny got drafted at
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: fifty five, I was like, Okay, great, this doesn't really
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: mean that much. But of course media, social media, hype
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: everything behind it. It turned into an entirely different story.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: What does matter to me is the productivity, because if
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: you stripped away the name, the accolades, the championships, the MVPs,
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: it's about what you're doing on the court. And for Lebron,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: this season, he's averaging the second fewest points of his career.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: His second his fewest points recorded as the NBA player
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: was his rookie season. He had twenty one points per game,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: won the Rookie of the Year, played seventy nine games
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: at year forty. Now this does go to the longevity
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: of Lebron. Year forty, he plays seventy games, averages twenty
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: four points, the second fewest points of his career. His
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: scoring drops year over year over year. His fewest points
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: scored have all come while he is in LA. After
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: turning thirty five, you can see a significant dip in
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: the productivity of Lebron James. Now he is better than
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: most guys. He's better than every forty year old basketball
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: player ever. Right, But is he better than every twenty
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: five year old basketball player ever? Which is the answers?
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: Now?
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Is he a serviceable player? Sure, but if we're holding
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: into the standard that he has to carry a team,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: he's not going to pass that standard. That bar is
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: too high. It pains me to say I like Lebron,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: I like rooting for greatness. I've always been on the
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: side of I want to complain to my kids the
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: same way that the other older generation complained to me
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: about how things.
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: Were better when I watched him.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: And if I get to see a Tom Brady and
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: a Patrick Mahomes and the Lebron James and the Serena
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: Williams and a Tiger Woods, and I can turn around
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: and tell my kids one day, well, you don't know
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: anything about how good the old days were. Now I'm
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: gonna do it. I'm always rooting for greatness. I want
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: to see the dynasties. I want to see the best players,
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: even if those players tend to be a little whiny
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: and you know, tend to be not as funny as
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: you'd like them to be. Like, let's hear this joke
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: from Lebron last night. Lebron got asked a question in
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: the post game about what this team needs going forward.
- 1:27:30Speaker 8: Basically, from mid January on, right when Ad got injured,
- 1:27:34Speaker 8: you guys started playing a lot of centerless basketball and
- 1:27:37Speaker 8: not required a lot from you and Doe and Ruie
- 1:27:40Speaker 8: and then Van Doll once he got back, just from
- 1:27:43Speaker 8: a physical like taxing standpoint, How how tough was that
- 1:27:49Speaker 8: for the last three and a half months to play
- 1:27:50Speaker 8: that style?
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: And do you feel like that caught up at all
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: in this series?
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: Oh, no comment. I'll never say that, because.
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: My guy eighty said what he needed and h that
- 1:28:04Speaker 6: he was gone the following week, So.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: I got no comment. I put that uniform oil every night.
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: I gave everything I had And.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: Now you obviously can tell. Towards the end, he's laughing
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: a little bit. He's having fun with the media. The
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: media is asking him, Hey, is it taxing to have
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: to play power forward to play. It is a big
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: man role. Again, you're forty. You're asking a forty year old, Hey,
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: is it hard to bang down low against guys like
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: Rudy Gobert and nas Reed and get absolutely demolished and
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: physicaled up by a guy like Anthey Edwards who's twenty
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: three years old. It could be your son. Does it
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: bother you?
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: Is it?
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Do you need more? And he goes no comment, which
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: is again fair. Lebron is a pretty well spoken guy,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: the guy that talks a lot, probably to the chagrin
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: of some other people, probably not out what every NBA
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: fan loves to hear all the time is from Lebron James.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: But give him credit. He does talk to the media.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: We want our superstars to be upfront and honest with us,
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: and Lebron again, to a fault, might be a little
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: bit too honest. Look, I want him to have fun.
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: I want him to make JOKINGI jokes and but of
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: course the angle is, hey, this guy is making a
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: joke about getting traded. He's throwing another first round exit
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: at the feet of Rob Polenka and Genie Buss in
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: the front office of the Lakers. Even though the Lakers
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: are able to make a massive swing and go get
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: him a guy like Luka Dacik to play next to.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: This would be the perfect plan for the Lakers going forward.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: Is you have to lock Luca into some sort of
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: device where he has to follow Lebron around throughout the offseason,
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: because even a year forty, I know that Lebron is
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: taking better care of his body than Luca has in
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: the last twenty five years of his existence.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: I know that Lebron.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: Yeah, he might have a last of wine and every
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: now and then maybe has a cigar on a yacht
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: somewhere on the south of France. But for the most part,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: he is doing more with his body. He's keeping himself
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: in shape. He's taking care of the greatest body the
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: NBA has ever seen. But possibly Luca needs to take
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: some pages of that. I'm not asking you to turn
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: into Lebron. I'm not asking you to become a super
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: freak athlete and to only have a keto diet and
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: to never have any fun. But when we lose in
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: the first round, and yeah, Lebron very much struggled in
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: Game five against the Wolves, but Luca also struggled, and
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: he also dealt with the illness and injury throughout the season,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: and his body started to break down again in the playoffs,
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: and you look across the street and what the Clippers
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: are dealing with Kawhi Leonard takes pretty good care of
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: his body. He's just genetically.
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: Hurt.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: I guess by the fact that he has the injury
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: bug every single season, like we are essentially sinking our
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: watches to him having some sort of injury here pretty soon.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: That's just the way that his career has gone. He
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: cannot stay healthy. Luca, you still have a little bit
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: of runway here. You potentially could stay healthy, Which leads
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: us to this offseason. Because Lebron and Luca the Lakers' core.
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: I don't see a world where the Lakers are making
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: any more big moves. And with Giannis maybe the largest
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: small market star we have had since Tim duncan Tea,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: leaves are saying is unhappy, reports are saying he's unhappy.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: We know how this game goes. When a superstar is unhappy,
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: they start packing their bags, they start getting on Zillow,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: they start looking for other places to play. So if
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: there is a small market superstar available, I don't think
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: the Lakers are the team that are gonna be able
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: to go get them. However, I do think that a
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: guy like you will be moved this offseason to which team, well,
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: the team that has the biggest haul. I would like
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: him to stay in a small market. I would like
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: him to go to Oklahoma City if they don't win
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: the title this year, I'd like to see a Yannis
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: and SGA match up. A team up there, a superstar
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: group in Oklahoma City, an organization who has been very
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: successful this season. They have been successful since they moved
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: to Oklahoma City. But to get a guy like Giannis
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: would be very very good for again small market teams,
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: And that's what I want. If we're going to rob one,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: let's not give him to another big market team. Let's
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: not send him to New York or Boston or Miami.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: If he's going somewhere, let's keep him in a small market.
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: It's my point, all right. When we come back, I'm
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: going to talk to you about my favorite NFL pick
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: this season, and it is, by far, I think, the
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: most entertaining guy. We'll talk about it next on sports
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: hundred The Zone. Andrews and we'll hang out with you
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: this Thursday as we continue to work our way through
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: the work week together. First pitch tonight, six pm on
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: one oh three one, Austin's eighty station. Craigway will be
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: on the call as the Longhorns, the number one ranked
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: team in the country in the country, take on the
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Arkansas Razorbacks from Fayetteville. First Pitch, six pm, five forty
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: five hour time on one three one, Austin's eighty Station. Okay,
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: now the NFL Draft is coming gone, and I have
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: found myself falling in love with Will Campbell, the LSU
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: offensive lineman who went to the New England Patriots. Let's
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: start here. This is was Will Campbell after getting drafted.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: What he had to say about his quarterback, Drake May.
- 1:33:52Speaker 8: Basically from mid January on.
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: You are brought to New England to protect Drake May.
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: What kind of.
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: Tone are you going to set up in this offensive line?
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: I'm all fighting to protect them with everything like that.
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: I love a guy like that.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: It's rare, very very rare for me, and I think
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: for most people to get super excited for an offensive
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: lineman like my favorite team in the minist of the
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: Vikings picked the offensive lineman. I couldn't tell you the
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: first thing. If it's a good pick, if it's a
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: bad pick. I read a couple of the draft blogs.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: They team to give the Vikings good grades. But Will
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: Campbell top five pick, goes to the Patriots after the
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: Patriots win in the final week of the season to
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: drop from the number one overall pick to number four. Okay,
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: the go get Will Campbell and I am head over heels.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: I don't know a ton about them. I knew he
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: had short arms at one point. I think that's what
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: people were talking about at the combine. Hell, you know,
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: offensive lineman need to have long arms. What about big heart,
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: because that's what Campbell sounds like he has.
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: Drake May spoke to the media today and talked about
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: what his offensive lineman, what it meant to him.
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, listen to a love I mean, man,
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: you could go into juice going.
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: I think it makes someone to go out there to
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: play football.
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: Now, so you'll pump that we picked Will and we
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: got a chance immediate when he came in influence on Friday,
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: so and pumped to get things going.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: And obviously, you know, seeing football players.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: Were going around here now, Drake May is the premier
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: example of you'd rather be the guy who follows the guy.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: Uh for to follow the legend, right, you don't want
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: to be the guy that immediately follows Bruce Springsteen on stage,
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: but she wouldn't mind being the guy that follows the
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: guy because everybody's already forgotten about Tom Brady or you know,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: they're not comparing you to Tom Brady as quickly off
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: the jump. There was a little bit of time right
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Mey gets drafted in twenty twenty four. Between him and
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: the goat was Mac Jones and Cam Newton, any of
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: other quarterbacks that kind of rotated through New England before
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: Drake May shows up. In the twelve games that May
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: started last season, he played pretty well fifteen touchdowns, ten interceptions, not.
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: Bad for a rookie.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: You would hope that the New England Patriots continue to
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: get a little bit better, a little bit better, a
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: little bit better, and I think with a guy like
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: Will Campbell on the offensive line, they will get better.
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: That this is the first step.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: People were really excited with Joe Thomas in Cleveland when
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: the Browns had this iron man who's playing every single
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: down and it was even more liked because the Browns
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: stunk for the most part Owens sixteen season, and Joe
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: Thomas is out there every single snap, every single game,
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: fighting for a team that's going nowhere, right, And then
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: people fell in love with Jason kelcey. They even gave
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: him a TV show on ESPN, a late night show
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: on ESPN, because we liked the big guy. We liked
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: the offensive lineman, the center who dressed up funky to
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: go to the Super Bowl parade, and we liked him
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: because they had the push push and he was crying.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: He's playing his brother in the super Bowl, and it
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: is all we like.
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: Jason kelce an offensive lineman.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now, both those guys are going
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: to take a seat behind the love that Will Campbell
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: will get because if he continues to play and fight
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: as hard as he talks from LSU, listen to this quote.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: This is him at LSU talking about Amazon being an
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: Amazon worker. If he doesn't do a better job like
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: this is an incredible quote.
- 1:37:32Speaker 6: You give up one sack a game for twelve games,
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: you're gonna work at Amazon.
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: Nothing wrong with that.
- 1:37:37Speaker 6: But whenever we're here, this is what we're striving for
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: If you ever got the time, go back and watch
- 1:37:41Speaker 6: my first player college football. I got my face ran through, punished,
- 1:37:46Speaker 6: and that's just what it is. I mean to be
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: thrown in the fire like these this against good teams.
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: These dudes are.
- 1:37:53Speaker 6: Trying to get paid and all they got to do
- 1:37:57Speaker 6: is get to the quarterback. One thing we live by
- 1:37:58Speaker 6: in the Ovine room at b Diman get one sack
- 1:38:01Speaker 6: a game and that's the only thing he can do.
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: Twelve games, he'll be a top five pick. You give
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: up one sack a game for twelve games, you're gonna
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: work at Amazon.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: What a quote. What a guy.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: And I know he played for the Tigers, but still
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: I'm all in now that these out of the college ranks.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: This is the guy that I'm watching this season. If
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: there was a way to vote for an offensive lineman,
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: like it'll never happen, Like it will never ever happen
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: that offensive lineman wins Rookie of the Year. But if
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: there was a way for us to get behind this
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: kid and root for him.
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: I don't even like the Patriots. I don't really care
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: how the Patriots do, but this is the rookie that
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: I am all in on while everybody else was worried
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: about Shador Sanders as he dropping in the draft and
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: prank phone calls, and you see that. We finally figured
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: out who was doing it. It was the sun of
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. Cost him one
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: hundred and k cost the Falcons two hundred and fifty
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: thousand dollars. Look, if you scratched your parents on Prom night,
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: you were chipping, you're chewing your fingernails off, You're worried.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: Oh man, I can't I can't look at my dad
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: in the eye because I scratched the car. This kind
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: of costs his family one hundred thousand dollars three hundred
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: and fifty thousand dollars overall for a prank phone call.
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: While everybody else is worrying about those stories and worried
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: about what's cam Ward gonna do in Tennessee? And will
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: Travis Hunter play both ways? I've been locked in on
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: Will Campbell. I've been locked in on where was this
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: kid gonna go? I knew he was going to go early,
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: I didn't know if he was going to go to
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: the New England Patriots or not. Then he gives me
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: a quote that I'm going to fight and die, leave
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: it all on the field for my quarterback. That's what
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: I want to hear. That's what I love to hear.
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: This guy has a fan for a life in me,
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: and that's rare. It's very rare. That Draft night is
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: when I decided to pledge my allegiance to a guy.
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: I pledged my allegiance to Will Campbell, New England.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: If you win ten games this season or three games
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: this season, I'm watching every one of them because I
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: want to see how my boys doing on that offensive line.
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: All right, when we come back, we'll put a bow
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: on it. Send you on your way to The Craigway
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: Show rolls on continues in a moment on Sports Radio
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: The Zone Andrew Zimmel wrapping up The Craigway Show on
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: a Thursday edition. Craig will be back on the program tomorrow,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: most likely in the three o'clock hour as we preview
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: Game number two of Texas and Arkansas and recap tonight's
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: matchup six pm. First pitch five forty five Ever time
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: on one of three to one. Austin's eighty station Craig
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: Ways on the call from Fayetteville as the number one
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: ranked Texas Longhorns take on the Razorbacks.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: It's gonna be a good game.
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: From everything that they've told us, this is going to
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: be one of the better games down the stretch. And
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: Longhorns take on a series against Florida that has started
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: to kind of gear in the right direction. And you
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: also consider they finished the season against Oklahoma, which is
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: a team it has been very good. Historically speaking, they're
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: a program that has given Texas trouble in the past,
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: we'll put it that way. So these are two series
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: coming up that are exciting. This weekend series is exciting
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: down the stretch. Every one of these games matters as well.
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: When you talk about RPI and potential's final seeding. The
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: five game lead for the Longhorns in the final stretch
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: nine games, you feel comfortable. You feel confident that they
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: could win the regular season and go into the SEC
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: tournament as a one seed and then of course going
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: into the regionals and super Regionals that come afterwards in
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Omaha and everything else. You got to do it one
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: series at a time, one weekend at a time, one
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: inning at a time. But I'm looking ahead because I'm
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: the type of person who likes to prepare and plan,
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: and I also like to get hotel rooms. So I
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: would like to know as soon as possible what the
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: deal is. Also breaking news out of Texas women's basketball.
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: According to coach Vic Shaeffer, freshman forward Alea Moore will
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: have surgery that will sideline her the entirety of the
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: twenty twenty five to twenty six season. The plan for More,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: who battle ten a ninety cent a right knee throughout
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: the past two seasons, is to return for the twenty
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: twenty six twenty twenty seven campaigns. So not what we
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: would want to hear from the Texas women's basketball program.
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: It's good to get that adjusted, to get that fixed.
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: It's sad that we're gonna go through the twenty twenty
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: five to twenty six season without a Lea Moore, that
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: is according to Vick Shaeffer. Also, all right, so this
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: is kind of how I wanted to do in the
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: show today on a Thursday. If you've been online recently,
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: you've been seeing this debate rage on. I cannot get
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: enough of it. This has been something that I have
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: been very, very very much locked in on And I'm
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: not only locked in on it because it's the topic
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: of conversation currently. I'm locked in on it because this
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: is something I've been thinking about for a very very
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: long time, longer than I'm kind of embarrassed with. Man, honestly,
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: the one hundred v one debate, one hundred men versus
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: one gorilla? Could it happen? How would it go down?
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: Why where would the games before the fight happen? All this,
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: I have been as locked in on any conversation as
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: I've had ever. This is this is the biggest Internet
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: debate going on right now, and this is something that
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: I've thought about pragmatically for a very long time. And
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: I liked that there's now a mix too, where at
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: first it was okay, it's one hundred strangers, and then
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: it was like, okay, well can we get people all time?
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: And then could it be you know, can we pick
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: certain people like, hey, can I go get Connor McGregor right,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: who's set on social media that it would be him
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: versus one hundred gorillas and you would take himself.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: So he's confident. I went through historically speaking who would
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: I want?
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: And I've come down to one historical figure that I
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: think would change everything. I think would completely change how
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: this fight would go down if it was one hundred
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: v one. Everybody's always going, oh, I want Prime Mike Tyson,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I want Prime Mark Kennedy, the world's strongest man who
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: can listen to on the morning kickoff seventy nine am
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: right here on the zone. I want Prime hul Cocin. Right,
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: you go through down the list, and everybody wants these
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: combat veterans. Bruce Leie, right, you want to go, I'm
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: going further back if you gave me Prime William Wallace. Yeah,
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: I'm going all the way back to Scotland. Give me
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: Prime William Wallace in a fight against the gorilla. Because yeah,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: all those other guys they're great individuals, they're great individuals,
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: and if it was one v one they might have
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: a shot. To be completely honest with you, But if
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: I need one hundred random guys, I'm picking one hundred
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: guys off the street, ninety nine other guys on the street,
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: and I got one of them with William Wallace as well,
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: who led a freedom march in Scotland centuries ago.
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: Get the history books out, kids, I'm going with him.
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: Because I need somebody that is going to be able
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: to rally the troops. I need somebody who's going to
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: be able to get everybody excited, everybody on the same page,
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: everybody fighting for a similar cost. Why are we fighting
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: this grilla? I don't know where are we fighting? It
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: beats me. When is it happening that could happen tomorrow.
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: I need somebody who's locked in, who can get all
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: these strangers to pull in the same direction. I think
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: William Wallace is my answer, and I want to get
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: your answers as well. So I want you over the
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: next twenty four hours. We're gonna be back on the
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: show again tomorrow. Craig's still in Fayetteville in Arkansas. For
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: Texas and Arkansas over the next twenty four hours or
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: I guess twenty hours. Ish tweet at me at Andrew Underscore,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: Zimbo on Twitter, at Andrew Underscore, Zimo on x you
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: can follow me over there. I want to get your answers.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: We're gonna compile them. We're gonna get some of those tomorrow.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: You also gonna use the free iHeart radio apps talkback feature.
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: I want to use the talkback feature. It's a little
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: red button. Go on the free iHeart radio app, Go
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: to the zone should already be a pre set, use
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: the talkback feature, and give me your person who you
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: would want in this one hundred v one against the gorilla?
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: And look, is it kind of crazy?
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: Is it the number one pressing topic in the world
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: right now? Probably not. You know, we got a lot
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: going on, we got tariffs, we got a lot going on.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: But this, to me is the thing that's gonna unite
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: us and for all those people. And because again I've
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: been on the other side of this debate a long time.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: I've been fighting this fight since I was in fifth
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: grade and I saw Coco the Gorilla signing. I was like, really,
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: this is what we're spending my precious time library time on,
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: is watching this video. Ever since then, I've been against
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: the gorilla propaganda that has been pushed out our throats,
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: gorilla versus grizzly bear. Give me the grizzly bear one
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: hundred v one, Give me the one hundred dudes. And
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: if you are one of those people who is saying, hey,
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: you know what, Zimmo, you know what, Zimmo, I'm going
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: the gorilla. I think the gorilla could beat you when
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: you're ninety nine. Friends, I tell you this, you don't
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: have the heart of the champion. You don't have the
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: desire to go out and try to win something. You
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: need to rethink how you are going about your life.
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: If you're picking the gorilla over one hundred of mankind,
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: what does that say about you? Just consider that. So
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: tweet at me at Andrew unders square Zimo on Twitter.
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: You can also use the free iHeartRadio apps talk back
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: feature because I want to get your answers when we
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: do the show again tomorrow. I think that's a good
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: way to end the week. I think that's a good
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: way to wrap up a Friday show is kind of
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: here's some of those answers. I want you to think
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: about it critically. I with you. If I have the
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: way back machine, if I could get the time machine
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: and go grab somebody, I'm grabbing Scotland's greatest William Wallace,
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: because I need a leader. I need somebody who's gonna
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: lead us into battle, all right. Also happening tonight NBA
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: playoff Basketball. It's the best time of the year. You
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: get the playoffs and basketball, you get the playoffs. In hockey,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: both happening at the same time. The wonderful, wonderful time.
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: Tonight's matchups is Nicks and Pistons. I'm gonna leave here
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: and try to go find a place that's gonna be
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: playing that game, and then tonight Nuggets and Clippers. Nuggets
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: need to get this game done. They cannot afford to
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: be tired trying to go up against the number one
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: seeded Oklahoma seed Thunder. They got to get the job
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: done tonight. Win tonight in LA, knock out both the
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: LA teams, and let's see you in Oklahoma City. You
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: can't give the Thunder that much time off. All right,
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: thanks guys, We'll be back again tomorrow. We'll talk to
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: Craig Will recap NBA basketball, we'll get geared up for
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: the weekend. All that coming on tomorrow's edition of The
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: Craigway Show. Until next time, I'm Andrew Zimble. Don't forget
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: I'm not wrong. I'm just early Peace.
