- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:41Hi, it's Adam here. And in this hypnosis session,
- 0:44you're going to be listening to an addiction themed hypnosis
- 0:48session. And I was working with a client
- 0:51that had a particular addiction to a substance.
- 0:54I'm not going to name the substance because it would
- 0:57potentially prime you in a way that isn't helpful for the
- 0:59session. All you need to know is that
- 1:01every now and then they would feel a compulsion to use this
- 1:05particular substance. And when they did, it really
- 1:08kind of drained them of energy, drained them of.
- 1:11Feelings of. Kind of focus and, and the kind
- 1:15of energy that was productive for them.
- 1:17So it did come at a cost and they wanted to make that change.
- 1:21So what you're going to hear is a hypnosis session that reminds
- 1:25them that they are capable of change, that they've made
- 1:29changes before. And then it has this form of
- 1:32timeline therapy where they get to see a future where nothing
- 1:36changes. And that's the future.
- 1:38If they continue to use and make certain choices, what impact
- 1:43that has on their finances and their business and even their
- 1:45health and future relationships. But then also an alternative
- 1:49future where they meet the underlying need in a different
- 1:53way and by doing so feel more empowered.
- 1:56They still get the same joy, but a different type of pleasure.
- 2:00And that pleasure comes from internal pleasure.
- 2:03And there's a great phrase which is natural highs and the body is
- 2:07capable of creating things that act like drugs, and we call them
- 2:11hormones or neurotransmitters. But things like adrenaline,
- 2:15things like serotonin and oxytocin and dopamine, you know,
- 2:19all of these things are internal.
- 2:21Drugs and they. Absolutely do change how you
- 2:24feel. You know, if you've ever had a
- 2:26sense of anxiety and your heart starts racing, you know that's a
- 2:30different biochemical reaction in your body.
- 2:33It's a state change. So anxiety isn't, you know, the
- 2:37ideal example of a positive emotion.
- 2:39But let's say you're feeling, you know, if you've been in
- 2:41love, that feeling of dopamine and serotonin and oxytocin all
- 2:45fused together feels wonderful. So those natural highs were a
- 2:49better way than synthetic highs that come from substances that
- 2:53tend to have a consequence. That's a biological consequence
- 2:58in the body. So I think anyone that feels a
- 3:01compulsion or a a real. Urge.
- 3:04To take something that feels pleasurable in the moment but
- 3:07has undesirable consequences will get some value of this
- 3:11particular session. And if you are interested in the
- 3:15idea of working with me from a hypnotherapeutic perspective,
- 3:20there's a couple of things that's worth looking at.
- 3:22One, there is a link in the show notes where you can actually
- 3:25take a suitability test and it's about 60 seconds long.
- 3:28You take a few buttons and you fill out a few, answer a few
- 3:31questions and you'll figure out pretty quick if hypnotherapy
- 3:34would be right for you. So if you've been curious about
- 3:36that, check out that link. And there is also a free course
- 3:40that I've put together. 21 of my favorite hypnosis sessions from
- 3:45my podcast have been collated together as part of a course.
- 3:48And again, you can sign up for that completely free.
- 3:52So check those out. And to get the most out of this
- 3:55session, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:58won't be. Disturbed.
- 3:59Relax. And enjoy the session.
- 4:53Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 5:06slow, long, relaxing breath. And as you exhale, allow
- 5:12yourself to release any feelings of tension, any stress, any
- 5:18worries that's in. Just allow those feelings to
- 5:26leave your body in your outward breath.
- 5:32And as you breathe in and breathe out, position your body
- 5:38in a way where you can really feel comfortable.
- 5:44That place where it's effortless to go deeper and deeper relaxed.
- 5:54I want you to get a sense that for the next few minutes, there
- 6:01is nothing that you need to do. Just allow yourself to
- 6:07experience thoughts and ideas that enable you to create new
- 6:16associations, new beliefs, and new connections so that things
- 6:24that you've wanted to do, you simply don't want to do them
- 6:29anymore. Not because you can't, because
- 6:38you don't want to. And I want you to think of the
- 6:44power of just adding one association as you breathe in
- 6:54and breathe out. I want you to imagine a
- 6:59delicious meal, your favorite meal.
- 7:05And imagine this meal in an elegant restaurant, on a
- 7:14pristine plate, on a table with a white tablecloth and silver
- 7:21cutlery. Imagine that delicious meal on
- 7:27that plate, on that table. And I want you to imagine seeing
- 7:383 or 4 random strangers walk up to that plate, that meal, and
- 7:47just spit all over the food. People you don't know putting
- 7:57their saliva, their bacteria, their germs all over what
- 8:08previously was a delicious, desirable, some would say a
- 8:21compelling meal. But as you imagine those
- 8:26strangers spitting their saliva, their phlegm all over this meal,
- 8:35notice how easily something can shift from desirable to
- 8:44undesirable rapidly. And I want you to think, as you
- 8:52go deeper and deeper, relaxed, that there is something else in
- 9:00your life that has been desirable.
- 9:07And maybe it was desirable because it made you feel alert,
- 9:13made you feel good. Maybe it even made you feel
- 9:20aroused or excited or full of energy.
- 9:25I want you to get a sense that something can be true and yet
- 9:32still not worthwhile. Allow your imagination to take
- 9:43you to a place in nature, maybe a beach, maybe by a lake,
- 9:55somewhere in nature near to water.
- 9:59And as you stare at the water, the waves, the breeze, the
- 10:05sound, just allow your imagination to take you deeper
- 10:12and deeper, relaxed. And sometimes when people stare
- 10:19into the water, they drift off into a Daydream state.
- 10:27And in that Daydream state, sometimes people think about the
- 10:33future. Sometimes it's a future they
- 10:38want. We can call that optimism,
- 10:45aspirations, excitement, and sometimes people think about the
- 10:54future they don't want, and that might lead to feelings like
- 11:01anxiety or paranoia. But the future is yours to make
- 11:09it. Some people are simply going
- 11:15with the flow and end up wherever life takes them, but
- 11:22there is a small percentage of people under 10% that make their
- 11:30life as they want it. These are the entrepreneurs, the
- 11:41goal setters. They have an idea of the life
- 11:46they want and they make it happen.
- 11:51And I want you to think all the way back before you had a
- 11:55business, didn't it start just as an idea?
- 12:03But then you aligned that idea with action decisions.
- 12:11And even though sometimes it wasn't easy, you did what was
- 12:16necessary to keep that business growing.
- 12:21Therefore, you are one of those people that makes life alter to
- 12:33your imagination. You change it, you steer life in
- 12:41the direction to give you more of those things that you desire
- 12:49and if that can work in your business life, it can also work
- 12:56in a different area. I want you to get a sense that
- 13:02there is always a choice. People don't consider that
- 13:09things staying the same is a choice.
- 13:14It feels like a choice or a decision is only when you make a
- 13:21change. But that isn't true because if
- 13:29you can make a change and don't, then you are choosing to stay
- 13:35the same. So there in that nature, breathe
- 13:46in and breathe out, but breathe in a feeling of resourcefulness
- 13:53and all the resources you would want most clarity, energy,
- 14:00belief and motivation. Breathe in all of those
- 14:06resources and then exhale anything that is holding you
- 14:14back. Sometimes we do what's easy and
- 14:23not what is what's required. So just feel like you're letting
- 14:29go of anything that is impeding the quality of your life.
- 14:38This might be a habit, a compulsion, or just a desire.
- 14:48So as you breathe in and breathe out, they're in nature.
- 14:54I want you to imagine 2 futuristic portals.
- 15:02Maybe they are glowing spiral like circles, or maybe they seem
- 15:12to be a gateway to another dimension, but just imagine
- 15:18these portals. They're in nature.
- 15:26These are portals through space and time to give you an
- 15:31experience of two possible futures.
- 15:38And the first portal allows you to experience life if it stays
- 15:47the same. Same choices, same habits.
- 15:53We consider it a trajectory, a way of moving through your
- 16:00future in the similar direction that you're already heading.
- 16:04And that might still lead to good places.
- 16:11But maybe there is a risk that you undo lots of those wonderful
- 16:19things that you've built so far. But I want you to imagine seeing
- 16:27yourself like you're someone else as you walk through the
- 16:33portal, become an observer, see you like you're someone else,
- 16:43like a watcher. And I want you to see your life
- 16:47on the trajectory it's been heading.
- 16:51I want you to see that maybe once or twice a month there's
- 16:57this desire to go out, see yourself drinking the alcoholic
- 17:06drinks that you drink and then see see that urge.
- 17:15Maybe the clue is your facial expression or your behaviour
- 17:20sending a message to someone. And I want you to see that
- 17:25version of you consuming a substance and then being under
- 17:33the influence of that substance. You're just the observer, but
- 17:40you get to see yourself with new eyes.
- 17:43Now what my like feel amazing for you doesn't seem so amazing
- 17:52when you're the observer and I want you to choose to give
- 17:59different associations, evaluations, meanings to what
- 18:06you observe. You might use words like risky,
- 18:12reckless. You might even use judge mental
- 18:18words, words like embarrassing, pathetic, whatever the right
- 18:30words are for you, you get to use them.
- 18:38But I want you to see what happens over a longer period of
- 18:42time. What happens the day after
- 18:46you've consumed. See the tiredness, perhaps
- 18:52anxiety, See the opportunity cost of that momentum you've
- 18:59been building suddenly grinding to a halt.
- 19:06I want you to observe potential risky behaviour, perhaps even
- 19:15illegal behaviour or dangerous in some way.
- 19:22And perhaps being the observer, it reaches a point where a
- 19:30thought starts to take root. And maybe that thought is this
- 19:40isn't worth it. It's not worth it because just
- 19:49because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
- 19:56And I want you to get a sense that what if each time you
- 20:03consume you are buying a ticket that increases the probability
- 20:15that your life gets much worse? I want you to think of.
- 20:24A world of 8 billion people. How many people of a similar age
- 20:30to you had a heart attack on that night that they consumed
- 20:38the same thing you're consuming? How many had sex with a stranger
- 20:50and then weeks or months later found that they had an incurable
- 20:55sexually transmitted disease? How many people, while they were
- 21:01under the influence, did something that meant that they
- 21:09lost their business? They ended up in jail?
- 21:16And of course, it doesn't mean it will happen just because it
- 21:19could happen. But each time you're buying that
- 21:24lottery ticket, you increase the odds of that undesirable thing
- 21:30happening. So allow your imagination not to
- 21:37show you a prophecy or a prediction, just possibilities.
- 21:46What horrible things could happen if you stay on this path?
- 21:55I want your imagination to show you things that give you a sense
- 22:01that the risk is not worth it anymore.
- 22:10Start to imagine things that you've spent years building is
- 22:15lost. Hopes that you have for the
- 22:22future disappear instantly. And you don't have to force
- 22:32yourself to not want to do something, just feel like these
- 22:38thoughts are like strangers spitting on a delicious meal.
- 22:47You could of course still eat the meal, but maybe you don't
- 22:54want it anymore. And imagine seeing yourself
- 23:05maybe 20 years in the future on this pathway.
- 23:13Was 20 years of needing this thing to feel a sense of release
- 23:22or enjoyment done to your body, done to your life?
- 23:31Sometimes when someone does certain things, it takes future
- 23:36vitality and energy and brings it forward.
- 23:41But sometimes that comes at a cost of aging.
- 23:49Sometimes people that are addicted to certain things at
- 23:56the age of 40, they look like they're 60, the age of 50 and
- 24:01they look like they're 80. To just allow your imagination
- 24:07to show you a version of you on this pathway where something has
- 24:16taken its toll, and then allow yourself to go back through the
- 24:24portal, walking backwards. Whatever.
- 24:31You're not changing, you are choosing.
- 24:36You can choose to do what you've always been doing, each time
- 24:42taking on more risk. Or you could venture through the
- 24:46new portal. And this portal isn't a portal
- 24:52of willpower and discipline, it's a portal where because of
- 24:58new associations, you simply don't want that thing anymore.
- 25:08And as you walk through this portal again, become the
- 25:13observer. And I want you to see then
- 25:18certain shifts and changes have taken place, certain things have
- 25:25lost their appeal. And maybe it wasn't about
- 25:32stopping. Maybe it was about swapping.
- 25:38Instead of going to bars and clubs, maybe you see a version
- 25:43of you doing something else that gives you that sense of release,
- 25:47that sense of connection, that sense of fun and enjoyment.
- 25:54Maybe instead of certain types of interactions, there's more
- 26:01meaningful or long term interactions.
- 26:07Maybe this version of you is drinking less alcohol because
- 26:12you don't feel like you wanted or needed.
- 26:15And what if by drinking less alcohol, you end up doing
- 26:20something else less often, or not at all?
- 26:25But does the observer see that expression on your face now?
- 26:32Not doing the thing gives you that feeling of joy, a feeling
- 26:39of pride, a feeling of being in control.
- 26:47And perhaps the most empowering thing would be that even if the
- 26:53people around you are consuming something, there is no desire
- 27:00for you to do the same. Consider this the empowered you,
- 27:07the intentional you, the version of you that is in control of
- 27:13your life, not through discipline, but through desire.
- 27:19You simply desire a better life, and you've come to the
- 27:25conclusion that your life and your future is better when
- 27:29certain things aren't there. Sometimes a life gets better
- 27:36when there's one toxic person that you decide you don't need
- 27:41them in your life anymore. And I want you to think of this
- 27:47substance as a toxic friend. A false friend, someone that
- 27:58took more than they gave, someone that betrayed you again
- 28:04and again. Sooner or later you would decide
- 28:08that they are not a friend and you would continue your life
- 28:14without them in it. So imagine this future, a future
- 28:20where that false friend, that substance is no longer there,
- 28:25and see this future getting better and better.
- 28:34See yourself with more energy, more vitality.
- 28:38See your business going to the next level.
- 28:42Financial success increase status.
- 28:46See yourself brimming with confidence and pride, See new
- 28:53friendships, new relationships built on something different.
- 29:00See the quality of your life increasing, but also imagine you
- 29:07found an alternative way to release all of the pressure that
- 29:13can build up when you've got lots of responsibilities.
- 29:19Maybe that's something that gives you an adrenaline boost,
- 29:24or maybe it's something calm and in nature that gives you that
- 29:30serotonin and oxytocin. In the past, you were seeking
- 29:38the drugs externally to consume them.
- 29:42In this future, you want your body to create them for you.
- 29:48The dopamine, the endorphins. I want you to see a version of
- 29:57you that seeks natural highs, the biochemical reactions that
- 30:08come internally, not externally. And maybe this future is more
- 30:16desirable, gives you more energy, more confidence, more
- 30:21vitality, more of everything that you want.
- 30:29See yourself 20 years in the future following this timeline.
- 30:36Natural highs your body creating your joy and gratification and
- 30:42experiences and then allow your unconscious mind to decide which
- 30:49future is more appealing, future of synthetic substitutes or real
- 30:58experiences. So as you walk backwards through
- 31:03the 2nd portal, you realize key choices and decisions.
- 31:11Are you voting for what future you want?
- 31:15Anytime you do the habits and behaviours of the past, you're
- 31:20voting for that future of risk, of less energy, of aging more
- 31:29rapidly. Or you're voting for a future of
- 31:34natural highs, pride, accomplishments, a sense of ever
- 31:41increasing vitality and well-being.
- 31:46But you vote for the future through your actions, your
- 31:50behaviours and allow your unconscious to guide you towards
- 31:57the future you truly desire. But it's time to leave this
- 32:04place. Leave the portals, leave the
- 32:07place in nature and return to the present with a new sense of
- 32:11clarity as to what it is that you really want.
- 32:17So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 32:22nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 32:25wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 32:27here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 32:33you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 32:39456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 32:43Open your eyes 910. Wide awake.
- 32:46Wide awake. Wide awake.
