- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's up everybody? Welcome into another edition of the
- 0:12Speaker 1: check o'daly. Andrew di checo here Eagles be reporter for
- 0:15Speaker 1: insidethebirds dot com. The Eagles held their year end press
- 0:18Speaker 1: conference today, but it was about one forty five where
- 0:21Speaker 1: head coach Dick Sirianni and executive vice president Howie Roseman
- 0:25Speaker 1: and general manager Howie Roseman walked down the corridor of
- 0:28Speaker 1: the Novacare Complex, got to the podium and shed some
- 0:32Speaker 1: light on a season that didn't reach expectations. It fell short.
- 0:37Speaker 1: It was an abrupt end, and they were able to
- 0:40Speaker 1: kind of make sense of some of the pertinent topics
- 0:44Speaker 1: that I'm sure you all want the answers to now.
- 0:46Speaker 1: They weren't able to get super in depth when it
- 0:49Speaker 1: comes to the coordinator search obviously that there's that's still ongoing.
- 0:53Speaker 1: They don't have a time where they're able to divulge
- 0:57Speaker 1: and take you behind the curtain there to give you
- 0:59Speaker 1: the answers that you want to hear there because it's
- 1:02Speaker 1: still early on in the process. But Nick Sirianni pretty
- 1:05Speaker 1: much said that when moving on from Kevin Petullo, he
- 1:08Speaker 1: was appreciative of what he did to help win and
- 1:11Speaker 1: played a big role for five years while he was here,
- 1:14Speaker 1: said the offense needs to evolve, and he did what
- 1:16Speaker 1: he felt was in the best interest of the Philadelphia
- 1:18Speaker 1: Eagles to kind of move things forward. The door seemed
- 1:23Speaker 1: to be kind of left open for Kevin Petula to
- 1:25Speaker 1: return and a different type of role, and when asked
- 1:29Speaker 1: about that, Nick Sirianni said, we'll see what happens, said
- 1:32Speaker 1: that he expects Kevin to have other opportunities, but he
- 1:36Speaker 1: wishes the best for Kevin and his family, and so
- 1:39Speaker 1: we'll see how that all goes. For me, the optics
- 1:42Speaker 1: make it very tricky for that to actually work, to
- 1:44Speaker 1: bring him back in a reduced role after he was
- 1:47Speaker 1: just the offensive coordinator. I think Kevin Patula would have
- 1:51Speaker 1: other opportunities, whether that's being a senior advisor consultant for
- 1:57Speaker 1: someone like Kellen Moore, who he was very during his
- 2:00Speaker 1: time with the Eagles, or maybe a Shane Stike. And
- 2:03Speaker 1: I still think that there will be better opportunities for Patulo.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But Nick Sirianni spoke about that, and then when asked
- 2:11Speaker 1: about the criteria that he's looking for, you know, he
- 2:14Speaker 1: was kind of ague, but basically, someone who's going to
- 2:18Speaker 1: help this team move forward and evolve this offense. And
- 2:23Speaker 1: there's a lot of enticing names out there, but he
- 2:27Speaker 1: wasn't even willing to. You really can't expand on that.
- 2:32Speaker 1: As far as a coach bringing in their staff, would
- 2:35Speaker 1: that be something that's welcomed. Is that something that's in
- 2:38Speaker 1: the cars. Nick's pretty much said that it's way too
- 2:41Speaker 1: early for that without having knowing who the coordinator is,
- 2:44Speaker 1: who their guys are, what they want to do, and
- 2:46Speaker 1: then all that, so that there's still a lot to
- 2:48Speaker 1: be determined there as far as Jalen Hurts and his
- 2:53Speaker 1: willingness to accept a new challenge that comes with having
- 2:58Speaker 1: a new coordinator. He pointed to this season where Jalen
- 3:02Speaker 1: has had to go under center more than they ever
- 3:04Speaker 1: have and whether he's had to adjust in game to
- 3:08Speaker 1: throwing a bunch, running a bunch, He's doing different things,
- 3:13Speaker 1: not running as much during the regular season. I think
- 3:16Speaker 1: that was more of an organizational decision to get him
- 3:19Speaker 1: to the playoffs and keep him healthy because the past
- 3:22Speaker 1: number of December so he's been really backed up. Whether
- 3:25Speaker 1: it was I think it was the ankle in twenty
- 3:29Speaker 1: twenty one, then it was the shoulder in twenty two,
- 3:32Speaker 1: the finger in twenty three. I think it was the
- 3:35Speaker 1: knee in twenty twenty four, and he entered this postseason
- 3:38Speaker 1: without any issues. But Nick Sirianni gave an elaborate answer
- 3:42Speaker 1: as to sort of providing examples as to how Jalen
- 3:48Speaker 1: has broadened his horizons and showed a willingness to get
- 3:52Speaker 1: outside his comfort zone, if you will, And those are
- 3:55Speaker 1: some of the examples that they've done some things with
- 3:58Speaker 1: play action. They've used the middle of the feel not
- 4:00Speaker 1: as much as you'd like to see. But I also
- 4:03Speaker 1: thought that Jalen was more willing this season to throw
- 4:05Speaker 1: the football at the tight windows. I thought he did
- 4:07Speaker 1: a better job against the blitz, things that maybe he
- 4:10Speaker 1: struggled with earlier in his career. I thought that he
- 4:12Speaker 1: showed an ability to kind of advance his game, incremental
- 4:18Speaker 1: as it may be. And now it's up to the
- 4:19Speaker 1: next coordinator to head that in the right direction. Howie
- 4:24Speaker 1: Roseman when asked about the prospects of bringing in sort
- 4:31Speaker 1: of a fast rising coach or someone who's a hot
- 4:33Speaker 1: commodity that could only be here for a year potentially
- 4:36Speaker 1: and seek a head coaching job, or go for someone
- 4:40Speaker 1: who's more along the lines of Vic Vangiel stabilizing veteran
- 4:43Speaker 1: coach who you don't necessarily have to worry about and
- 4:46Speaker 1: would represent a little bit more continuity. And Howie Roseman
- 4:48Speaker 1: pretty much said it's sort of a compliment when you
- 4:53Speaker 1: have a coach that's able to be to get a
- 4:56Speaker 1: head coaching job that they've earned, and that's sort of
- 4:59Speaker 1: the price of the price you pay when you have success.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And they were very adamant, both Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman,
- 5:07Speaker 1: that they're trying to win now and that is their
- 5:10Speaker 1: primary objective. And if that means that a coach is
- 5:12Speaker 1: always here for a year and they move on, if
- 5:14Speaker 1: that's the best candidate, that's who the Eagles are going
- 5:17Speaker 1: to a point into that role. And so I think
- 5:18Speaker 1: that's really important to keep an eye on or bear
- 5:21Speaker 1: in mind when you're looking at these coaches. It may
- 5:23Speaker 1: not be someone like a Greg Roman who's fifty three
- 5:27Speaker 1: years old and may want to just stay in that role.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It may be someone who is going to be a
- 5:32Speaker 1: hot commodity and could leave after one successful season like
- 5:35Speaker 1: Kellen Moore did, or after two seasons like Shane Steiken
- 5:38Speaker 1: did after he had that one really good season in
- 5:40Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, but that's where the Eagles are almost
- 5:45Speaker 1: victims of their own success. And I thought it was
- 5:49Speaker 1: interesting that Howie Roseman offered that quote that it's not
- 5:52Speaker 1: going to alter the way that they think. If that's
- 5:56Speaker 1: the best candidate, then that's the best candidate. And if
- 5:58Speaker 1: they earn a head coaching role, so be it. They said,
- 6:01Speaker 1: you know, we'll kind of we'll deal with it. And
- 6:06Speaker 1: then lastly, Aj Brown, the topic of Aj Brown was
- 6:10Speaker 1: brought up, and look, Howie Roseman and not Howie Roseman. Well, yes,
- 6:14Speaker 1: Howie Roseman, Nick Sirianni, and AJ Brown, They've all really
- 6:19Speaker 1: been clear this year whenever I asked that, yes, AJ's
- 6:23Speaker 1: wanted here. Yes, Aj is a great teammate and does
- 6:28Speaker 1: some great things. He's a special player. AJ Brown, Yes,
- 6:31Speaker 1: Philadelphia is my home. This is where I want to be.
- 6:34Speaker 1: But there's also been times this season where there's been
- 6:37Speaker 1: moments of frustration, whether it be on social media or
- 6:40Speaker 1: whether it be on you know, frustrating posts about the offense.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And it's no secret that Aj isn't necessarily happy with
- 6:50Speaker 1: the offense because it's not a high volume passing attack.
- 6:52Speaker 1: There's a lacks for rhythm. He also vocalized the need
- 6:57Speaker 1: for the offense to have more urgency and more consistency
- 7:00Speaker 1: because the special team to the defense was carrying the
- 7:03Speaker 1: Eagles for the early part of the season and really,
- 7:05Speaker 1: for being honest, most of the season. And so we
- 7:09Speaker 1: haven't talked to aj since December eighth, when the Eagles
- 7:12Speaker 1: played the Chargers at SOFI Stadium. Talked to him in
- 7:15Speaker 1: the visitors' locker room, and that's the last we heard
- 7:17Speaker 1: from him. So I'm not about to sit here and
- 7:21Speaker 1: assume or guess what he's thinking or anything like that.
- 7:24Speaker 1: But the questions surrounding his future are fair when you
- 7:28Speaker 1: look at how the season ended, all the different things
- 7:30Speaker 1: that happened from December eighth. At this point right now,
- 7:33Speaker 1: he didn't play well in the postseason. Maybe just maybe
- 7:36Speaker 1: a change of scenery will serve him well. But then again,
- 7:40Speaker 1: this conversation could be all or not depending on who
- 7:43Speaker 1: they get as the coordinator, because if they get a
- 7:46Speaker 1: coordinator who has sort of advanced level pass concepts or
- 7:51Speaker 1: is going to head the offense in a certain direction,
- 7:54Speaker 1: well he could intrigue someone like AJ Brown. Heck, part
- 7:58Speaker 1: of the deciding fact or for a coortator coming to
- 8:01Speaker 1: Philadelphia could be having someone like Devonte Smith and aj
- 8:05Speaker 1: Brown because they know that they can build the passing
- 8:07Speaker 1: attack around both of those players. So just some of
- 8:10Speaker 1: my thoughts here.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
