Good morning and a warm welcome to your show,
• 0:05
Sunny Mornings in Boston. I'm your host, Melissa,
• 0:09
and it's Friday, March 13th. You'll be interested
• 0:13
to know. 245 years ago, today, in 1781, William
• 0:20
Herschel spotted a faint planet through a new
• 0:23
reflecting telescope and recognized it as a distinct
• 0:26
world beyond Saturn, opening a broader view of
• 0:29
the solar system. The finding elevated observational
• 0:34
astronomy adding a seventh planet to the catalog
• 0:37
of known worlds and inspiring improved instruments
• 0:40
and systematic sky surveys that advanced planetary
• 0:44
science. So now you know. And now it's time for
• 0:50
the weather report. This morning it's sunny and
• 0:55
it feels like 25 degrees with 6 mile per hour
• 0:59
wind. The sunset will take place at 648, and
• 1:03
it will rise again tomorrow at 654. It looks
• 1:07
like we're in for some mostly sunny weather today,
• 1:10
with a high near 44 and a light west wind at
• 1:14
6 to 10 miles per hour tonight. Expect a slight
• 1:18
chance of snow early, turning to a chance of
• 1:21
rain, mostly cloudy skies, a low around 36. and
• 1:25
a southwest wind around 10 miles per hour, dusting
• 1:29
up to 22. The nearshore buoy at Cape Cod Bay
• 1:33
reads 37 degrees for the water temperature. Looking
• 1:39
ahead in the weather. Saturday will be mostly
• 1:43
sunny with a high near 48 and a west wind 10
• 1:46
to 17 miles per hour, dusting as high as 43.
• 1:50

• 2:40
day from 8 to 5. So stop on by and don't forget
• 2:44
to tell them. Sunny mornings send you. In local
• 2:49
news, Boston City Council members are taking
• 2:53
steps toward a potential ban on kratom, a substance
• 2:56
that mimics the effects of opioids and stimulants.
• 3:00
Experts have raised concerns about synthetic
• 3:02
  kratom products, particularly those containing
• 3:05
the potent compound 7 -hydroxymetraginine, which
• 3:09
can pose serious health risks. During a recent
• 3:12
  hearing, counselors heard emotional testimonies
• 3:15
from individuals affected by Kratom -related
• 3:18
tragedies, prompting many to express alarm at
• 3:21
its easy availability in the city. Counselor
• 3:25
Ed Flynn emphasized, the status quo is not an
• 3:28
option. We have to ban it here in Boston. With
• 3:32
over 20 other Massachusetts towns enacting similar
• 3:35
bans, the council is exploring regulatory measures
• 3:38
to address this growing concern. Now onto sports.
• 3:48
The Minnesota Vikings made a significant move
• 3:51
on Thursday, signing quarterback Kyler Murray
• 3:54
to a one -year contract worth $1 .3 million.
• 3:58
This decision comes after Murray was released
• 4:01
by the Arizona Cardinals, who had guaranteed
• 4:04
  him $36 .8 million. If Murray replaces J .J.
• 4:09
McCarthy, the implications could reshape the
• 4:12
Vikings' offense. Murray's mixed tenure with
• 4:15
the Cardinals included injuries and questions
• 4:18
about his leadership. With a history of injuries,
• 4:21
McCarthy faces pressure to adapt his game. If
• 4:25
named the starter, Murray's dual -thread ability
• 4:27
could elevate his fantasy value. In local sports,
• 4:32
Chet Holmgren knocked down two free throws with
• 4:35
0 .8 seconds remaining, lifting the Thunder to
• 4:39
a thrilling 104 -102 victory over the Celtics.
• 4:45
Pshy Gilgis Alexander broke Wilt Chamberlain's
• 4:48
record for consecutive games with 20 points or
• 4:51
more, scoring 35 points while also contributing
• 4:54
9 assists and 6 rebounds. Jalen Brown led the
• 4:58
Seas with 34 points. while Jason Tatum sat out
• 5:02
as he recovers from surgery on his right Achilles
• 5:05
tendon. The matchup was tight throughout, culminating
• 5:09
in Holmgren's late foul that secured the win
• 5:11
for Oklahoma City, marking their seventh straight
• 5:15
victory. In top news, what to know about the
• 5:20
growing potential for a super El Nino later this
• 5:23
year? A significant shift in the Pacific Ocean,
• 5:27
known as the El Nino climate pattern, is increasingly
• 5:30
likely to develop this summer and continue through
• 5:33
the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. Forecasters
• 5:38
estimate a 50 to 60 percent chance of this transition
• 5:41
occurring in late summer and beyond. If El Nino
• 5:44
develops during the summer, it could lead to
• 5:47
fewer tropical storms and hurricanes. The strength
• 5:50
of El Nino later in the season could significantly
• 5:53
impact hurricane activity in late October and
• 5:56
  November. Increased precipitation could also
• 6:00
occur in parts of the West experiencing prolonged
• 6:03
dry conditions. In business news, lithium was
• 6:08
discovered deep underground in northeast Texas,
• 6:12
sparking a competitive race for access. The smuckover
• 6:16
formation, previously known for its oil, is now
• 6:19
recognized for containing some of the purest
• 6:21
lithium brine worldwide. Local attorney BF Hicks
• 6:26
is actively engaged in negotiating lithium leases
• 6:29
as companies flood this rural area seeking this
• 6:33
critical mineral. With U .S. lithium consumption
• 6:36
projected to surge by 74 % annually by 2029,
• 6:42
Texas is positioning itself as a significant
• 6:44
player in the lithium sector. Companies like
• 6:47
ExxonMobil and Chevron are already investing
• 6:50
heavily. aiming to capitalize on this emerging
• 6:53
resource. In crypto movement, Bitcoin is up 6
• 6:59
% for the week to about $71 ,000. Ethereum is
• 7:04
up 7 % to just over $2 ,000. And XRP is up 4
• 7:09
% to $1 .41. Moving on to a more local vibe.

• 8:09
  mini -servers, integrating local applications

Macworld, This development highlights the increasing

significance of Mac Mini for artificial intelligence
• 8:22
applications. The system mandates user approval
• 8:26
for sensitive actions and provides full audit
• 8:28
  trails, although specific configurations and
• 8:32
  pricing remain undisclosed. Interestingly, while

AI companies lean towards powerful NVIDIA graphics
• 8:39
processing units, home enthusiasts are turning
• 8:42
to Mac Mini for their AI needs. Perplexity claims

that personal computer is more powerful than

any AI system ever launched. And in entertainment
