- 2:19Hello and welcome back to the Elon Musk pod.
- 2:22My name is Will Walden. I'm your host.
- 2:24And on this episode, I'm going to be talking about SpaceX.
- 2:28Elon musk's company SpaceX is going to be unleashing Starship
- 2:35on the public tomorrow night tomorrow.
- 2:38Saturday night, the 28th of September 2019 Elon Musk is
- 2:44going to make a huge speech about the future of Starship
- 2:49where they're at now. And where they're going.
- 2:54So, Mark, 1, this is the spaceship that they've been
- 2:57building in Boca Chica, Texas. Starship, mark one vehicle, this
- 3:03thing is built. They just merged both halves the
- 3:08top half and the bottom half had been mated, and Elon Musk
- 3:12tweeted out a picture of it. And I'm going to tell you right
- 3:15now. This thing looks absolutely
- 3:19crazy. Cool.
- 3:21Okay, I'm a big fan of SpaceX I made.
- 3:24Whole Space pod CAD podcast called the space news pod.
- 3:29Basically, because I was a big fan of SpaceX and I just
- 3:32couldn't hold it in anymore. So go check that one out too.
- 3:35By the way, space news pod. So this thing this Starship it
- 3:40looks like a 1950s Style, shiny spaceship, that an alien would
- 3:46walk out from and say take me to your leader and it's massively
- 3:51impressive. Ilan, tweeted a picture of it.
- 3:55It's huge. It's really huge.
- 3:57So what are they going to do with this thing?
- 3:58Well, for the conference tomorrow for the speech
- 4:02tomorrow, he's basically going to be standing in front of it.
- 4:06It's not going to be launching tomorrow night.
- 4:10But the plan is that they're going to have some launches by
- 4:13the end of this year. They want to actually have some
- 4:16orbital launches from Boca Chica Texas, the Mark 1, We'll be
- 4:22doing some hover tests first. That's, you know, that's the
- 4:25plan on everything. You have to get a low hover test
- 4:28before you go any higher, you know, maybe there's going to be
- 4:31a couple couple feet right for the first couple, hover tests
- 4:36and then you're going to go up to 50 feet.
- 4:38You're going to go up to 300 feet, you're going to go up to 5
- 4:44miles. And then, you're going to go
- 4:48eventually to orbit and Mark one Mark to these are the only two
- 4:55starships that we have right now.
- 4:56There's one in Florida, and there's one at Boca Chica Texas.
- 5:00We're not quite sure, which one's going to go up into orbit
- 5:02yet, but the mark one is made it together and it looks
- 5:09impressive. I'm going to take a quick second
- 5:12to tell you about audible audible is an amazing amazing
- 5:16place. Where you can get audio books.
- 5:18There's a link in the show notes.
- 5:19Check it out. You get two free audio books.
- 5:21If you check out that link. Now let's go back to Starship
- 5:25for a second. This presentation will come at
- 5:32the South Texas site which is near Boca Chica.
- 5:37And the Mark 1 will serve as a backdrop for this conference.
- 5:43For this talk, it's going to be huge.
- 5:47This thing is gigantic and this is the time of year that Elon
- 5:52Musk does big updates for everybody so we can expect
- 5:58amazing. News from Elon tomorrow night.
- 6:03So also he may talk about the round, the moon flight that
- 6:10Starship will be making There is going to be a flight with you
- 6:19Sokka, Misawa. So he is a Japanese billionaire
- 6:23that is pledged to launch himself in Starship, and take a
- 6:28tour around the Moon. And then land back safely on
- 6:33Earth. But there's a lot of time in
- 6:36between now and then and they were going to do this.
- 6:39In 2023. It's 2019 right now is the end
- 6:44of 2019. They have about four years to
- 6:47get Starship to a point where they can launch people from the
- 6:53surface of the Earth into space. And not just into space, but
- 6:57around the Moon because very shortly.
- 6:59Probably within the next year, they're going to get the going
- 7:05to get the funding and get everything in line as far as
- 7:09legalese goes to launch somebody.
- 7:12From one of their launch pads. Probably in Florida.
- 7:15I mean, it's the NASA facility. It's very worked out.
- 7:18It's very well. Taken care of.
- 7:21You have everything logistically there to launch people, so
- 7:24they're probably going to be launching yasuko Misawa from
- 7:29Florida. To a trip around the moon and
- 7:33he's going to be taking passengers with him.
- 7:36He wants to take, I believe it's nine.
- 7:38People with whom you want to take artists with them so they
- 7:41can fly around the Moon. There of course there's going to
- 7:43be astronauts on board. Because you need technical
- 7:46people and you need Engineers, any pilots and co-pilots Etc to
- 7:51do these kinds of missions because a billionaire and a
- 7:54bunch of artists aren't going to be able to fly a Starship just
- 7:56saying like that's that's hard work and often have my head I
- 8:00don't know any artists who would be willing or capable of flying
- 8:05a spaceship. There's years and years of
- 8:07training that goes into that and I'm sure they're going to have a
- 8:10lot of training before they do this to and Starship isn't just
- 8:14going to be able to Three. A few people.
- 8:16It's going to be able to carry about 100 passengers and will be
- 8:19powered by six Raptor engines. Super heavy which is the rocket
- 8:24underneath the Starship. That's the big big big rocket on
- 8:29a Starship. It'll have 35 Raptor engines.
- 8:33The going to launch Starship on top of the super heavy and then,
- 8:40you know, they're going to Break apart and then Starships get to
- 8:44go on his merry way around the moon come back down to earth or
- 8:47we're going to have to wait and see if they're going to mention
- 8:50that tomorrow because it seems like this is already in the
- 8:55books. This is already planned.
- 8:56It's a billionaire that wants to do this.
- 8:58So he has the money to do it and they're ready to roll.
- 9:03The mark one. It's 160 feet tall. 665 feet
- 9:08tall. Then it will initially fly to
- 9:12about 12 miles and that's going to happen next month.
- 9:16They have to do, like I said before, some hover tests but
- 9:19they wanted fly it to about twelve miles next month.
- 9:25And I'll go into Earth orbit on future test flights if
- 9:29everything goes properly, and they're actually doing work at
- 9:33the Texas site to prepare for bigger launches, and I'm not
- 9:38sure if they're going to make it in time.
- 9:41For this one. But Mark to, that's what I'm
- 9:44expecting them to say that Mark to will fly into orbit, but
- 9:47we'll see, we'll see you tomorrow night and I want to say
- 9:50thank you to everybody who's been listening to the new show.
